Per the existing recall on my vehicle, the driver’s side door handle has failed. It will unlatch at random times (including when driving at speeds between 1-20 mph), it will not unlatch when attempting to get into the vehicle, and the sensors have started to fail causing the car to believe the door is open when it isn’t which has caused the car to do an emergency stop on several occasions while it was in motion. This luckily hasn’t led to a collision yet but it easily could. I took the vehicle in to be inspected back in May 2023 when my dealership notified me they had the equipment to inspect the handle. They confirmed it had failed and told me at that time that they would order the parts needed to replace the handle but it might be a while as they were on back order. I spoke with them earlier this month (January 2024) and was lied to that the inspection in May wasn’t a real inspection and that they had just completed the inspection during my January visit. They knowingly deceived me that the parts were ordered in May and told me the car was still drivable and not a safety risk. This dealership knowingly put me at risk for 8 months and never bothered to communicate with me about the true status of the recall on my vehicle.
On the evening in question I stop the car in 5 ft front of my garage, which still does not have an automatic garage door opener. I press P to engage the parking brake and take it out of drive. I returned one phone call getting a voicemail and I don’t recall the exact sequence but I definitely had my seatbelt off and I reached to the passenger seat where I had left some things that I needed to take into the house, at that point, and again with neither of my feet on or near the accelerator , I noticed the car was moving and the next thing I knew it crashed through the garage door and hit another vehicle. The estimate for damages to my vehicle is about $14,000 and Volkswagen and insists from their analysis of the black box that nothing is wrong. However there are some issues that I’d like to discuss.
Climate and volume controls on main screen are not illuminated causing unnecessary fumbling at night, compromising safety.
The front seats go back and recline to an almost flat position randomly. This has hurt my kids' knees while they've been seating in the back seat. It is also very scary and they yell and scream in pain and panic. There is no pattern to the moving, it happens while stationary. Dealers have refused to look at it because they cannot replicate it at the time of the service call. I have pictures and videos of some instances but they are random. No warning or alerts pop up. This has been happening randomly since I bought the car one year ago.
1) Brakes: Brakes decelerate and is difficult to stop the vehicle. This is not in all cases when I stop. When I need to do an emergency stop I have to push the brake pedal very hard and pedal pressure feels low. I hope I dont get into and accident when trying to stop. 2) Lane departing warning: The vehicle some times would interpret the street white lines or yellow lanes incorrectly. It would sometime jerk my steering to correct my driving. If a white line stops at an intersection and starts after an intersection it would try and correct my driving. I think this is very dangerous. Should have the option to switch off auto lane correcting and just flash a warning.
I was pulling into a parking structure when the left side of the vehicle (door handles, windows, sensors) lost power. I was able to park the vehicle and then have it towed to the dealership. Although it happened at very low speed, my safety was at risk. It would have been very dangerous if this had happened on the freeway. I was unable to open the door or to close the driver window. The dealer found a blown fuse. They have not been able to identify a cause of what would cause a fuse to blow like this. They continue to work on it (we are on day 3 now) including working with VW of America engineering. The two recalls on this vehicle have been address (approx 10 days ago). I have had numerous other problems with this vehicle that I don't believe are related to this particular incident apart from the recall related to the door handles.
While driving my ID.4 couple of months back, it hit something.on the road. Taken to the body shop, I was given the bill of $27K to replace the battery. Looking at the damage, the battery housing was damaged and it could not be replaced without replacing the entire battery. Battery housing being such an important & sensitive part of the vehicle should be protected better. Currently, the shield underneath does not protected the entire battery housing. My insurance company was on the verge to Total my car which would have been an huge loss for me. I had to escalate it to get it repaired which is in process. Just want to report this as I got lucky not to run into an accident/fire due to battery housing being exposed. Hope, some action is taken to prevent any accident future and also to avoid such expensive repair (which can be avoided easily).
I was passing on a highway ant high speed and the car shut down. It gave me about twenty seconds to coast to a stop on the shoulder before it completely turned off. This happened twice.
Since we purchased the vehicle in December, 2022, the doors have been unable to open on at least nine occasions, sometimes locking passengers in the vehicle, and sometimes locking passengers out of the vehicle. Using the remote key does not allow the doors to open, only making a clicking sound. As we approach the hot summer months, it is a safety risk to not be able to exit the vehicle. In addition, it is a safety risk to not be able to get into the vehicle when needed. The vehicle has been taken to two different dealerships on three occasions. The service advisor at Lindsay Volkswagen of Dulles, VA commented five times while the vehicle was being picked up that he did not believe the vehicle was safe to drive and he wouldn't drive in it with his family. The dealerships were forced to return the vehicle against their judgment by Volkswagen (manufacturer) so that it did not remain "out of service" and trigger lemon laws. VW Customer Care insists that this is part of the open recall on this vehicle but that there is nothing unsafe about the vehicle locking people in the car. They claim that if it was unsafe that NHTSA would issue a stop-drive order, instead of just the recall and stop-sale order.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that the vehicle was purchased brand new with a defective windshield. The contact stated that the windshield was wavy and distorted the view of the roadway while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the windshield was replaced on two occasions; however, the failure persisted because the replacement parts were also defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that all the manufactured windshields were identical, and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 10.
The actuator on the charging port cover broke. I tired to get it fixed under warranty, but it has been two months and the part is still backordered from Germany. The charging port will not stay closed, so when it rains, water is getting into the charging connection and it is discolored, cannot tell if it is rust. I am concerned about plugging the high voltage plug in to the wet connector. I try to dry it, but it still seems wet.
2023 VOLKSWAGEN ID 4. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 23V-213. THE CONSUMER WAS SOLD THIS VEHICLE AFTER THE RECALL DATE, AND IS REQUESTING TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE COST OF THE CAR.
On April 22nd the car was in an accident when it struck the rear of another car at a red traffic light. I had stopped at the light with car in “B” drive mode and the brake on Auto Hold. I was stopped at the light roughly 2 minutes with my right foot on neither pedal. The car was in Auto Hold brake mode as I recollect the Auto Hold indicator being illuminated. The car remained stationary during that period until it moved forward without any action from myself. I am convinced I did not hit the gas pedal. There was damage to both my car and the car in front. There had been no change of the traffic light light nor had the car in front moved when this occurred. I had not experienced this issue in my limited driving before the accident (1700 miles) or subsequent to the accident. I contacted the Volkswagen dealer following the accident and dropped the car off for them to investigate. They advised me to open a case with Volkswagen of America to get their involvement which I immediately did. Volkswagen CARE assigned a regional case manager. The dealer service department performed a 3 mile test drive and could not reproduce the problem. Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident relying on the dealer service department to use the on-board diagnostics to read fault codes. They found two fault codes that required the replacement of the ICAS1 module (the vehicles primary computer) and the driver door handle – the latter was not related to the current recall on the vehicle. These were manufacturing defects and they stated were not the cause of the accident. I find it concerning that Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident for product issues nor did they explain (when asked) why a faulty major component that controls the operation of the car could not be the cause of the accident.
Airbag light is "on" and dealership stated that a driver seat sensor is not working. I assume this turns off the airbags. This puts the occupants at safety risk. This occurred approximately one week after I purchased the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle on April 17th, 2023. I took the vehicle to the dealership for repair and this safety critical part has been on order for 3-months. The dealership has prioritized the part but it is still on back order with no ETA from VW. VW should stop production at the factory and take a factory safety critical part for this vehicle that is under warranty. I contacted VW Customer Care and the dealership multiple times. No escalation has occurred.
Instrument panel to turned black, thus blocking access to essential information, such as current speed of the vehicle, the status of cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, and parking collision warning. The problem happened couple of times. Also, the Carplay feature freezes and is interrupted a lot.
12 volt battery system failure out of nowhere. High voltage battery has never been drained past 20 percent has 3730 miles. System failed in garage and vehicle will not move and fan will kick on extremely loud when turned on.
It seems the computer is not calculating correctly the vehicle performance. After charging the vehicle to 90% (73.8KW) of the 82KW only delivers a portion of what the computer states. at 90% delivers 210 mile; however , the onboard computer states that the performance is 3.2Miles/KW, which should translate to a performance of 236.16 miles (73.8 KW X 3.2Miles /KW = 236 miles Is the data being altered by the vehicle's computer?
The driver door is randomly popping open, at low speeds and high speeds. At low speeds, when trying to back out of driveway or pull into driveway or slowly pull up to red lights or keep up with cars in a left turning lane waiting my turn to turn, the door will randomly pop open and the car slams into park and turns off of Drive. I then have to shut the door, put the car into drive again and try to pull forward without the doors popping open again. This cycles at times where I have to repeat. The car does not go into park when doors pop open at high speeds, speeds greater than 12 ish mph. However, the door will randomly pop open at high speed. I was going 51 mph on the highway and the door popped open. I documented that with a picture. I reached out to several VW dealer garages. They said that they could not do anything for me because there currently was no fix for the recall. I have an appointment call with VW America today at 2pm today. I filled out online surveys with VW to tell them how unsafe this feels driving the car and this happening. We drive the car ONLY when necessary between my spouse and I bc of how unsafe the situation is. I'm not sure what to do or what i can do. I'm stuck with a brand-new car with only 3000 miles that had doors that randomly pop open while the car is in motion. Please advise. Thank you.
On Friday, April 7, 2023 after driving the car locally it displayed a "electrical system not working properly" error message. Were able to drive the vehicle home, though power and acceleration were reduced. Contacted the local dealership and took the vehicle in to them on Saturday, April 8, 2023. As of April 26th they have provided no status updates on what caused the error, how to resolve the issue, or a timeline of a repair.
Volkswagen Group of America 2200 Woodland Pointe Avenue Herndon, VA 20171 (248) To Whom It May Concern RE: ID.4 VIN: [XXX] Unexpected acceleration The above vehicle was involved in an unwarranted accident fortunately only involving vehicles. In a parking lot at rolling speed while turning right into the parking space the vehicle charged ahead full throttle crossing a parking bumper, 8’-0” inch loose dirt, another parking pumper, and still full throttle into a Tesla Y in the opposing parking space. Many including the investigating State Trooper, the body shop working on the vehicle, and numerous internet similar accidents strongly suggested an unsafe condition vs. an unsafe action. We drive a Mazda with the tech equipment, other Tesla’s, etc. and all have the emergency braking benefit. They will not drive themselves into a wall, parked car etc. Additionally the air bags did not deploy - wife’s shoulder was bruised significantly. Understandably, my wife no longer wishes to drive the vehicle which accounts for this letter to you. We would like to return the vehicle for a full refund immediately. Would you please consider the request to return our purchase funds and sales tax. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Vehicle of Issue ID-4 2023 Vin # [XXX] As Reported to VW Customer Support 04/18/2023 The vehicle has a very dangerous problem, being the driver's seat Sensor. The Sensor triggers the Vehicle into park with a slight shift of body weight. This situation was not explained to me by the Dealership Sales Team. This has happened several times. Twice while backing up, as I went to look along side of the driver's door area to check clearance and the car jumped into park. The door was closed and slightly twisted left to view the area. Again as I approached a stop sign, I shifted my self to adjust the seat belt, another time as I was adjusting my pants it went into park. The latest incident caused an Accident. The accident occurred as I was going through a Car Wash. I shifted my weight to get my hand into my pocket to return my credit card and the car jumped into park. That caused the vehicle to jump into park in the middle of the Car Wash resulting in the vehicle behind me to strike my rear tailgate. North Port Police were called and recorded an incident report because it was on private property. The car wash declines responsibility. This is not a good safety feature, it is an unrealistic expectation of the consumer to sit perfectly still while driving. Will this happen at a higher speed???__________ Do all VW Vehicles have the same Seat Sensor (Issues)???__________ I brought the Car In for service 04/17/2023 asking the sensor be checked or for a Software change or an adjustment to the Seat Sensor to be changed to a different weight threshold or HAVE the sensor disabled. Sunset VW of Sarasota would not do any diagnostic without a VW Customer Support approval because an accident was involved. On 04/20/2023 VW Customer Support will not acknowledge or authorize a Investigative Service on this seat sensor issue. They said it was my fault the seat sensor triggers the car to jump into park This is not a normal characteristic for any vehicle. I have never been in an accident in my entire life, never got pulled over by a cop, and have only ever driven one car prior to the vw. I always have my car in “B” mode. During the crash on 4/02 I was going about 40 to 35 mph coming off the highway tried to slow down more to 25 to go on the roundabout but it wouldn’t, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting the sign and curb and going over the cement median which cause both my left tires to go flat. I got a call from the Volkswagen SOS and at that time the person was talking to me, I had to maneuver my car off the cement median to move it to a safer road as I was in the middle of a dangerous place and it needed to be towed. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. I have only driven this car 703 miles.
The rear passenger door does not close properly. I first noticed this when I got home from the dealer the day I purchased it. I contacted them right away but the dealer said there was nothing they could do. 6 weeks later the doors were recalled and I got the recall fix. It kept happening. The dealer will not take any further action because they cannot replicate when I drop off for a service call. They won't even take the car. I have photos and videos. I called VW NA and they said there is no issue. Puts safety of passengers at risk.
The doors still don't work properly. They do not close. It happens randomly. It is usually when I drive out of the parking spot or back out so going slow. The rear passenger door opens randomly without warning. I've taken it to three dealerships but they haven't been able to replicate it while the car is there for service so they just send me back or don't even check in the car. I first complained about this the day after I bought it but still nothing
* After parking on a hill (with the car facing uphill) and putting the car in Park, as my wife was gathering her things to exit the car, the car suddenly released from Park and lurched backward, rolling into the parked car behind it. This caused a dent on the back of the ID4, fortunately no damage to the other car. And especially fortunate that no people were hurt. * We called the dealership and also opened a case with VW corporate. Both were very responsive. After a week of running tests, they returned the car to us because they couldn't reproduce the issue and didn't find any error codes through their diagnostics * While driving the car myself, I experienced the issue again in a different context -- I was pulling out of a parking lot, on a downramp waiting to enter the street. As I lifted my foot from the brake preparing to drive into the street, the car lurched backward, up the downramp. Fortunately there was no car behind me and no pedestrians walking by. We reported this to the dealership and VW. They immediately took the car in again and kept it another week. Ultimately one of the techs at the dealership did experience the issue. We have a written report from the dealership that says, "Verified customer concern. Vehicle slightly rolled back before moving forward." (report uploaded) However, neither the dealership nor VW could trace this to an "error code" or a root cause. With confirmation of the issue from the dealer, I formally asked VW to cover the costs of the repair. VW said they would not, because there was no "error code" that pointed to a manufacturing fault. I argued that if we have confirmation that the car is doing something it shouldn't be doing, the fact that VW doesn't know why doesn't mean it's not their responsibility. The car is still potentially very unsafe. * We repaired the car at our expense (invoice uploaded) but I would still like VW to take responsibility for the cost and also ensure the car is safe for us and for others
I have never been in a car accident in my entire life. This was my first ever electric vehicle, and I really loved driving it for the one week I owned it before the brakes failed to stop it. On 03/31 I had to restart the software several times because it froze when i was trying to connect it to Apple Carplay, but it was fine the next day. During the crash, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting a sign and curb. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. Not only did the brakes not work but the the brake assist failed, the collision avoidance system, the steering wheel locked, and the airbags failed to deploy. Both my left side tires became flat. If I would have known how unsafe this was, I would have never selected it in the first place. I chose this vehicle because I thought I would be safe and I wanted to save money on gas. I am so extremely terrified to drive this car and the dealership service center claimed there was nothing wrong with the car.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID. 4. The contact stated while the vehicle was charging at a Volkswagen charger center, the charging port that attach to the vehicle caught on fire causing the vehicle to burn. No one was injured. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 2,494.
The driving and center console screens were blank at vehicle start. Vehicle went into gear properly and moved without error, however, not having a 'speedometer' at this point, I chose not to drive the car until I was able to determine the best way to restore operation to the two 'screens'. Reading through several 'blogs' on this vehicle, I was able to determine how to 'reboot' the screens and restore proper operation to the 'speedometer' This vehicle is a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, all wheel drive Pro-S model with 2814 miles on it. The date was March 16th, 2023, 7:00 AM, clear skies, 62 degrees. This is a battery electric vehicle.
The driver side door unlocks and opens itself while I am driving the vehicle. In addition, while I am driving, the door opening or locking mechanism (I am unsure which) can be heard moving although this does not always lead to the door opening itself.
Main screen which displays speedometer, mileage, battery charge has gone black. No home recommendations for reset have worked.
The car shut down while driving. Many system warnings appeared sequentially stating that they were no longer functioning. The first to appear and remain as a warning light is the electrical system malfunction. It is currently orange, however, it turned red at one point. My car was unable to go into drive, nor reverse. I had my car serviced just over a month ago for a similar issue - power stopped being delivered to the wheels.
Driver's door is malfunctioning: Randomly popped open while at a stoplight without being touched. Won't open from the outside via the handle. Central locking function of the car is not working properly (doors don't lock while at speed like they normally do). The car is now at dealership waiting for repair; am told the necessary replacement door handle part is on a nationwide backorder with VW with no estimate given for arrival and completed repair.
On 10 March 2033, our Volkswagen ID.4 caught on fire while charging on a DC fast charger. We charged on a 150kW charger (which was only giving us 20kWh) for 30 mins. We then moved the car to a 350kW charger where someone else was charging (same location) when we first arrived at the station. The fire started shortly after the car began charging at the second charger; the flames were shooting approximately one foot high, out of the charging port. Luckily, my husband was right there and thought/acted quickly; he stopped the charge via the EA touchscreen and removed the charging cable when the fire stopped and it was safe to do so. The lower portion of the (fast-charging) port is now damaged/burned, and a portion of it no longer exists. We attempted several times to contact Electrify America via the number listed on the charging station, but their phone number auto-hung up after certain dial prompts... So we called 911. The police and the fire department arrived soon after we called, and attempted to shut the charging station off. The fire department then (unsuccessfully) attempted to call Electrify America because they were unable to locate emergency disconnects for the charging stations. My husband was eventually able to contact Electrify America, and informed them of the situation. The police placed caution tape over the charger, and told us to head out. Q1: We don't know; VW is doing an investigation to figure this out. Q2:Our car was lit on fire. Q3: I don't know. It's in the process of being investigated, but as far as we've seen online, this is not the first vehicle to start on fire at an Electrify America charging station. Q4: The police and fire department were called to the scene. The fire department has an investigation open on this incident. The VW dealership currently has our vehicle, and told us they were going to be inspecting it as part of their investigation. Q5: No
9942 miles – Error: 12V power supply. Safely Park the vehicle! See owner’s manual. Pulled over a turned vehicle off. Took vehicle to AutoNation VW. By the time I arrived at the dealership the error was no longer on the screen. Jeffrey Lopez had said it would be checked as part of the 10,000-mile service (which according to Jeffrey included oil change.) I showed Jeff pictures of the error message. Tech performed the 10000-mile service, scanned the vehicle but claimed they were unable to duplicate concern. Nothing was documented regarding the electrical issue, only that I was there for a 10,0000 service synthetic oil. Inspection paperwork all claimed that the vehicle was in good condition. Upon leaving the dealership there was a thud and loss of power but then the power immediately came back.
In brief, the front passenger door unlocks and unlatches while the car is in motion. This happens frequently, unpredictably, whether the car is stationary, in reverse, forward or at various speeds. There is. no warning or indication that the problem is happening, other than the door unlatching. We've brought the vehicle into an authorized service center and brought this concern to VW Customer Care's attention. In both cases we were informed that this is a known problem *but there is no part available, and no ETA for the part to be available*.
RE: Case No: [XXX]- VIN: [XXX] Consumer: [XXX] & [XXX] Manufacturer: Volkswagen/Audi of America, INC Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology To All Concerned: My take on the following is that not automatically resuming adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road is the choice. Just broaching the subject of Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology indicates they have reason to investigate. Evaluating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology Insurance Institute for Highway Safety The IIHS outlines the full list of criteria that qualifies a vehicle for a good rating: •Monitors both the driver’s gaze and hand position •Uses multiple types of rapidly escalating alerts to get the driver’s attention •Employs a fail-safe procedure to slow the vehicle, notify the manufacturer and keep automation off limits for the remainder of the drive •Requires automated lane changes to be initiated or confirmed by the driver •Does not automatically resume adaptive cruise control after a lengthy stop or if the driver is looking away from the road •Does not discourage steering by the driver while lane-centering •Prohibits automation features if the seat belt is unfastened •Prohibits automation features if automatic emergency braking or lane departure prevention and warning systems are disabled Not terminating Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology upon manual braking creates an unsafe condition. I am still including this page simply because it reinforces the primary fact that Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology offers different programing related to resetting/reactivating the Semi-Autonomous Stop/Go and Adaptive Speed Technology. The driver’s side door unlatches randomly and the door flew open on a turn.
Please see attached document. This is my second filing. I am still waiting for acknowledgment from NHTSA of my original filing on 3/22/23. The situation is only getting worse.
The infotainment screens on the vehicle will randomly go blank, and when it reboots, will often freeze in the rebooting process. This prevents the driver and passengers from being able to see critical safety information on the center display and the driver's display, including the speedometer. Not being able to see the speedometer is a violation of Virginia code VA § 46.2-1080. Speedometer in good working order. so the vehicle is not able to be legally driven in Virginia according to the Virginia State Police and most other states with similar codes. The manufacturer, Volkswagen, is telling owners to continue driving the vehicle in violation of state law. The existing recall on this issue should be expanded to be a stop drive recall due to this safety defect.
Brand new ID4 2023 with 800 miles goes into park and refuses to drive because this error message pops up, "unable to start please remove charging socket" the charger is not plugged in and I was just driving on the highway when this message first appeared. Then I come to a stop and that's when the car goes into park and refuses to drive in the middle of a busy 4 way intersection.
The heating and cooling controls are not backlit for nighttime use. I have to take my eyes off the road to feel for where the temperature control is located to adjust it. While doing this, it is very dangerous and difficult to do. I have put myself and passengers at risk trying to find the controls. All VW ID4s are not backlit. Dealers are not bound to do any correction since the manufacturer has admitted that it was "and oversight on their part". I just want to make someone aware of this before someone is injured or killed in an accident because of their design flaw or whatever they deem it to be. Please, please, please investigate this before someone is injured. Thank you. The first picture uploaded below on the left shows the location of the touch controls (between the infotainment screen and row of buttons at the bottom lower area). The area with a reflective glare is where the adjustments are for temperature for driver to the left and passenger on the right. The second picture is of the display with normal night time lighting. The five small red/purple dots are inferred sensors for gesture control of the main screen and aren't visible to the human eye. The last picture is of the display without any lights on. This is unacceptable for the build of this vehicle in any price range. Again, please investigate the issue and if possible have something done to correct this. Thank you again.
ID4 Pro Plus has a feature car surround area view—- this is essentially a camera system that provides multiple views while backing / driving forward that stopped functioning appropriately 19 days after purchased . VW Dealership in Greenville,SC reported software problem with update pending in May. Software Update in May did not resolve issue. Now, I’m told a hardware problem by same dealership with no part available in North America or Germany. No repair date provided. The issue is called error surround area view. Other ID4 Pro Plus are affected but this is not reported to consumer.0223
Rear passenger side door constantly locking and unlocking itself while vehicle is in motion and then opening itself while vehicle is in motion, going 30+ mph when it is supposed to be locked closed.
Our forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning systems stopped working on our 2023 ID.4 with 2500 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealership on 3/3/23 for repairs, after 4 hours the tech came out and was clueless what to what was causing the issue. They requested I leave the vehicle there the rest of the day so a tech from a different location could remote into the vehicle. After another 4-5 hours I was informed they "thought" one of the control modules was defective and needed to be replaced. They say this part has no ETA and would likely take anywhere from several weeks to MANY months to come in. VW does not consider any of these items a "safety issue" and refused to provide a loaner until parts became available.
Error: Surround View which is the full 360 view camera system that is new with the 2023 Plus model didn't work the day I picked up the car. Brought it back in and they changed all the cameras and it only worked for 1 day. brought the car back in and now they say the control unit has failed and currently there is no eta on the part. Car has under 300 miles and i don't have the car in my possession.
Upon entering the vehicle it is displayed that there is a 12V error and that the electrical system is malfunctioning. The vehicle cannot be put into gear. Exiting the vehicle and reentering the vehicle clears the error most of the time, making it seem like this error is false. One time though this error lasted for more than 30 minutes than went away. I drove the vehicle to the dealer and they confirmed the problem exists and do not know what is causing it. If this is a real error with the electrical drive train than exiting the vehicle should not clear it.
The car spontaneously came to a stop in the middle of the road and would not start again. The displayed showed plenty of battery charge/miles of range left, meaning the issue was not a dead battery. There were several error messages, notably one indicating that the car could not be put into drive because it was still connected to a charging cable. Being that the car was in the middle of the road, the car was not connected to a charger. I was unable to put the car into neutral in order to move it to the side of the road and out from the middle of traffic because the car kept indicating that it could not move with a charging cable still attached. The safety of myself and others was put at risk because my car spontaneously stopped in the middle of the road with no warning. My safety was further put at risk because the issue prevented me from putting the car into neutral in order to move it to safety.
Drivers door will not open from exterior and occasionally interior. Parts on back order. Serious safety issue. VW America will not give me a loaner therefore making me crawl through my car to get in. Key fob is supposed to open all windows simultaneously however that is also faulty. I feel this car is an absolute death trap. When I’m reverse, if your body slightly lifts off seat, car comes to a screeching hault. Making it impossible to backup without solely relying on review camera. Many times camera is not sufficient for visual backup.
On Saturday, February 4, 2023. At approximately 7am. I entered the vehicle to warm the car. (It was a cold day). I tried to exit the vehicle, but I could not exit the driver's side door. It was not opening. I tried many times via the door handle and the key fob. Neither worked. I then tried the passenger side door and that would not work as well. I tried each door several times. It looked like the car's electrical or software system was not communicating my needs to the vehicle. I finally was able to roll down the driver's side window and opened the dirver's side door via grabbing the door handle from the outside. Not too sure why neither door would open to let me exit the vehicle. It was pretty scary, thinking I would not be able to exit. Not too sure what happened, but hopefully it does not happen again. So far, it has not.
I parked my car and pressed the park button which has a nice re-assuring click. However after I let go of the brake, the car started moving. I slammed the brake and checked the screen. Sure enough, the car was not in park. That park button is not very reliable. My car: 2023 AWD Pro S
