THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE ENTIRE AIR BAG AT A COST TO THE CONSUMER. *NM
I JUST RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE MY CATALYST SYSTEM ON MY 2001 VW JETTA. THE CAR STAULED ON MY WAY TO WORK, SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALER - COOLEY VOLKSWAGEN, IN N. GREENBUSH NY. THEY FOUND MISFIRE CODES AND CATALYST SYSTEM. THEY ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THE COIL PACK AND TUNE UP WERE NEEDED TO CORRECT MISFIRES. MY QUESTION AND CONCERN IS: WHY DID I NOT RECEIVE A WARNING LIGHT ON SOME SIGNAL TO ADVISE ME OF ANY PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT BE OCCURING. THIS WOULD HAVE POSSIBLY ALERTED ME TO GET THE CAR INTO A VW SERVICE SHOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.*AK
THE FLASHER AND WARNING LIGHTS ARE INOPERATIVE DUE TO THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH RECALL DEFECT 04V584000. THE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. *NM
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR A TOTAL OF 14 DAYS IN DIAGNOSTIC. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN IT TO A INDEPENDANT VW MECHANIC TWICE WHO TELLS ME THIS IS COMMON. NOBODY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS FOR GLOW PLUG MALFUNCTION. I HAVE HAD REPLACED THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR, THE GLOW PLUG RELAY, ALL 4 GLOW PLUGS AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL COSTS OF DIAGNOSTIC. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON, IT IS STILL A GLOW PLUG MALFUNCTION. I HAVE PAID $800 FOR UNNECESARY REPAIRS THAT THE DEALER TELLS ME IS THE PROBLEM. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE REPAIRS ON THE DOOR LOCKS AND WONDOW REGULATORS, AS WELL AS THE AC MODULATOR, MIDDLE CONSUL LATCH,GLOVE BOX HINGE, REAR SEAT ASH TRAY. THIS YEAR OF JETTA IS A TRUE LEMON! IF VW IS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM THEN LEGAL ACTION WILL BE REQUIRED TO RECOVER MY LOSSES.*AK
THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THIS CAUSED THE PASSENGER TO SUSTAIN MAJOR INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL DETAILS.
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE SIDE/FRONT AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED . THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
A LARGE SPRING FELL FROM UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. VW SERVICE STATED THE SPRING HELD THE SEAT TO THE RAIL AND WAS AN EXTEME SAFETY HAZARD; IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THE SEAT WOULD COME LOOSE FROM THE RAIL. VW STATED SINCE OUR CAR WAS OUT OF WARRENTY THEY COULD NOT FIX IT ON THEIR COSTS (2001 VOLKSWAGON JETTA). THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, AND SINCE IT IS SUCH AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD I FEEL VW SHOULD TAKE THIS RESPONSIBILITY. THE EXACT SAME SPRING HAS COME LOOSE FROM MY SONS 2001 JETTA AS WELL. THIS INDICATES TO US THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED SITUATION.*AK
A 2001 VW JETTA HAS AN ISSUE WITH A METAL SPRING THAT IS PART OF THE DRIVER SEAT. THE SPRING SEPARATES FROM THE MECHANISM THAT KEEPS THE SEAT FROM SLIDING FORWARD. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC REASON THE SPRING BECOMES LOOSE FROM THE CAR SEAT AND ONE WOULD NEVER KNOW IF THE SPRING IS NOT ATTACHED, IT COULD CAUSE MAJOR HARM TO THE DRIVER IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. THE SEAT REMAINS LOCKED IN A POSITION, BUT IF THE CAR IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE SEAT COULD SLIDE FORWARD, CAUSING INJURY. VW REFUSES TO COVER THE PART AS A SAFETY RECALL AND IS CHARGING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I KNOW OF 2 INSTANCES WHERE THIS SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE DRIVER SEATS IN A 2001 VW JETTA. *JB
I JUST PURCHASED IN OCTOBER A JETTA GLS 2001 CAR FROM THE VW DEALERSHIP IN COLLEGE PARK MARYLAND. LAST MONTH WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN, I HIT THE CURB WITH MY TIRE BUT NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO MY CAR WAS DONE NOR ANOTHER CAR INVOLVED. TO MY ALARM, MY AIRBAG ON MY RIGHT FRONT SEAT SIDE DEPLOYED. I TOOK THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID AIRBAGS DON'T GO OFF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT ECT. THEY WOULD NOT HEAR MY COMPLAINT NOR HELP ME. NOW I WITNESSED ON THE FOX NEWS THAT THESE JETTA MAKE/MODELS HAVE FALSE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND 109 CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. I WANT TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST AND ALSO I WANT TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE BUT AN OUTRAGE. THE DEALERSHIP NEEDS TO FIX MY CAR. IN FACT, I HAVE A 3 YR WARRANTY ON MY CAR BUT THE VW DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE OR PAY $1900 FOR THEM TO FIX IT. *JB
NHTSA CAMPAIGN 04V096000; VOLKSWAGEN ISSUED A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH RECALL. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT OPERATING. THE VIN WAS OUTSIDE THE REMEDY SCOPE. *JB
I HAVE AN ONGOING WATER LEAK IN MY 2001 VW JETTA. EVERYTIME IT RAINS, WATER LEAKS FROM A SPOT NEAR MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR. WITHOUT FAIL, A 3-5 INCH POOL OF WATER COLLECTS EVERYTIME IT RAINS. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PAY THE $70/HOUR COST AND STATES THAT IT IS MY PROBLEM AND NOT A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT.*AK
THIS SUMMER MY LEFT REAR DOOR BECAME INOPERABLE. IN LATE OCTOBER THE TURN SIGNALS BEGAN OPERATING INTERMITTENTLY. ON A COLD AND RAINY DAY THIS NOVEMBER MY 2001 JETTA WITH 37000 MILES STALLED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. I RESTARTED AND COMPLETED MY TURN, THINKING I HAD JUST LET OUT THE CLUTCH TOO FAST. THE CAR WAS A BIT SLUGGISH AND A 1/2 MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON NOVEMBER 30 AND WAS SHOCKED NOT ONLY AT THE PROBLEMS BUT THAT THEY WERE NOT COVERERED BY ANY WARRANTY. THE TOTAL REPAIR BILL WAS OVER $1000 DOLLARS. THE IGNITION COIL PACK NEEDS REPLACED FOR $740. THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH NEEDS REPLACED FOR $77. JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DOOR REQUIRES A CHARGE OF $188 DOLLARS. THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN MENTIONED SEVERAL TIMES ON YOUR WEBSITE. I GUESS I JUST HIT THE TRIFECTA.*AK
DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTIONED. IT WILL OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE ONLY. IF YOU ARE IN SIDE THE PASSENGER CAN NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE WHICH IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT WILL NOT COVER THIS DEFECT, WHICH WAS ELIGIBLE UP TO 24,000 MILES. *AK
THE AIRBAG LIGHT RANDOMLY CAME ON IN MY CAR. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHY IT CAME ON. I HAD IT VAG COM'D. AND A CODE CAME UP AS BEING A BAD CONTROL MODULE FOR THE AIRBAG. *JB
TURN SIGNALS AND FLASHER OPERATION IMPACTED BY COLD WEATHER. WITH THE FIRST COLD WEATHER OF THE SEASON THE TURN SIGNAL/FLASHER UNIT FAILED TO OPERATE UNTIL WARMED BY THE HEATER (30 MINUTES OF HIGH HEATER OPERATION). MY REPORT MATCHES NHTSA ACTION # PE04073. THE VW DEALER REPLACED PART # 1J0-953-235-J-01C AT A COST OF $72. I HAVE THE OLD PART IN MY POSSESSION IF EXAMINATION OF IT IS REQUESTED.*AK
2001 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT WAGON. ENGINE FAILURE, VOLKSWAGEN WILL NOT REPAIR EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED 13 TIMES IN 14 MONTHS. *AK
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE IT STALLED. CONSUMER HAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED , BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
DESPITE HAVING A MALFUNCTION EXACTLY AS DEFINED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN 04VO96000 ON THE SAME MODEL (01 JETTA) - VOLKSWAGEN INSISTED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN WAS FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE "A DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH THAT CAUSED THE EPC LIGHT TO STAY ON, AND YOUR BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT WORK." *AK
THE CENTER ARM REST LOCK KEEPS BREAKING ON MY 2001 VW JETTA. IT HAS BROKEN THREE (3) TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE.*AK
ENGINE COIL PACK MALFUNCTIONED. *AK
THE TURN SIGNALS, ONCE ACTIVATED, WOULD STOP WORKING EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE IN THE ACTIVE MODE. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON NOVEMBER 5, 2004 AND ONE OF THE MECHANICS IN THE SERVICE BAY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE HAZARD SWITCH RELAY AND THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE OVER $100 TO REPLACE-- BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I ONLY HAVE JUST OVER 33,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I LOOKED ONLINE AND IT APPEARS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. FURTHERMORE, THE PART WILL COST ME $19 AT A LOCAL AUTO PART STORE AND IS APPARENTLY VERY EASY TO REPLACE. *AK
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2001, VW JETTA TDI. I TOOK MY CAR TO WEST BROAD VOLKSWAGEN, RICHMOND VA, TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED BECAUSE I HEARD A SQUEALING NOISE (JUST ONCE). THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY REAR BRAKES NEED TO BE CHANGED VERY SOON AND THE COST WOULD BE $427.00! I ASKED, HOW COULD IT JUST BE THE REAR BRAKES? THE SERVICE ADVISER COULD NOT EXPLAIN. I STATED TO HIM THAT EVERY CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED WAS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AND IN ALL MY YEARS, IT WAS ALWAYS THE FRONT WHEELS TO GO FIRST! I ASKED HIM DIDNT HE THINK IT STRANGE THAT JUST ONE SET OF BRAKES HAVE GONE BAD?&AGAIN, NO ANSWER. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE READ, IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THE BRAKE PADS ARE DEFECTIVE AND IT APPEARS THAT THIS DEALERSHIP IS PRICE GOUGING!*AK
I OWN A 2001 VW JETTA TDI (DIESEL). I TOOK MY CAR TO THE WEST BROAD VOLKSWAGEN, RICHMOND, VA ON 10/22/04, CONCERNING THE FACT THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT START AND THAT IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS NOT RECEIVING ANY FUEL. ADDITIONALLY, THE CAR IS STEADILY LOOSING ITS ABILITY TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC. NOT ONLY WAS I CHARGED $69.95 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, BUT I WAS THEN TOLD THE INTAKE WAS FULL OF CARBON AND THAT IT WOULD COST $978.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM! ADDITIONALLY, THE CAR DIED DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS AS I WAS TRYING TO GET ON TO THE HIGHWAY. AS THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF, I VEERED OFF OF THE ROAD TO KEEP FROM BEING KILLED! WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WASN'T GETTING FUEL. I WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, BROWNS VOLKSWAGEN, MIDLOTHIAN VA. THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR 2 DAYS, TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED AND WHEN I GOT THERE THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. WHILE I WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP LOOSING MY MIND, THEY DID SOMETHING TO MY CAR AND IT MYSTERIOUSLY STARTED. I NEVER RECEIVED AN EXPLANATION FOR WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR, NOR DID I GET A RECEIPT DOCUMENTING WHAT HAPPENED. I DIDNT KNOW IT AT THE TIME, BUT THIS PROBLEM WAS ALREADY IN THE MAKING...THANK GOD FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE!*AK
THE BRAKES STARTED GRINDING. AFTER DEALER INSPECTED THE BRAKES THE ROTORS AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED. *AK
THE AIR COMING OUT OF MY 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA'S AIR CONDITIONING UNIT STARTED TO SMELLING LIKE MELTED CRAYONS AND ENGINE FUMES. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE AIR CONDITIONER BROKE DOWN, AND I TOOK IT TO GET REPAIRED AT DEEL VOLKSWAGEN IN MIAMI. I TOLD THE SERVICE AGENT THAT THE CAR ALSO HAD A TERRIBLE SMELL OF CAR FUMES AND TO PLEASE CHECK THAT. THE NEXT DAY, I RECEIVED A SERVICE REPAIR QUOTE FOR $1,300 THAT INCLUDED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE BATTERY FUSE BOX, MAIN FAN, A/C FAN AND FAN MODULE. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED IN THE CAR ON 10/22/2004. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE A/C HAD THE SAME ENGINE FUMES SMELL, AND TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON, RICARDO WILDER, THAT THE A/C STILL SMELLED THE SAME. HE TOLD ME THAT ALL JETTA'S SMELLED THE SAME, AND THAT I SHOULD DRIVE IT FOR SEVERAL WEEKS TO LET THE NEWLY REPLACED PARTS DO THEIR JOB. IT IS NOW APRIL, 2005 AND THE CAR STILL STRONGLY SMELLS LIKE ENGINE FUMES. AT THE END OF MY DRIVING DAY, MY CLOTHES AND THE INSIDE OF THEE CAR SMELL LIKE ENGINE FUMES. I NOW DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS AND MOON ROOF OPEN AND WITH THE A/C OFF IN ORDER TO FIGHT THE STRONG SMELL. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT WHATEVER THIS SMELL IS, IT IS DETRIMENTAL TO MY HEALTH. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHEN I ACTIVATE THE TURN SIGNAL, RIGHT OR LEFT, THE SIGNAL WILL BLINK AT AN IRREGULAR INTERVAL AND THEN DIE. THIS INTERVAL IS NOT FIXED...ITS RANDOM. SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL BLINK FOR A WHILE, SOMETIMES IT WILL BLINK ONCE AND DIE. IT'S THE EMERGENCY FLASHER SWITCH. I HAVE NOT CORRECTED IT YET. I'VE LOOKED AT THE FUSES, ALL ARE SOCKETED PROPERLY AND NOT BLOWN. I'VE LOOKED AT ALL 6 LIGHTS CLOSELY, AND THEY ARE WORKING AND APPEAR TO BE SHINING WITH THE SAME INTENSITY. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON, AND VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR CHECK UP, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
CAR GET STUCK IN PARK. THIS IS ABOUT THE FIFTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MY CAR. NORMALLY YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE AND THE SAFE SWITCH WILL RELEASE SO YOU CAN MOVE YOUR CAR FROM PARK. TODAY THIS HAPPENED TWICE, AND I WAS ABOUT AN HOUR LATE TO WORK, BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT FOR MY CAR TO DECIDE WHEN I COULD DRIVE IT. LAST YEAR I TOOK THE CAR IN BECAUSE THE SPOILER LIGHT DID NOT WORK, THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHT ALTOGETHER DID NOT WORK, SO THEY DECIDED TO CHARGE ME $75. TO FIX THAT. NOW THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK AGAIN AND $75 IS NOT GOING TO BE PAID THIS TIME. I HAD THAT PART A LITTLE OVER A YEAR.I'VE RESEARCHED IN OTHER VW FORUMS AND MANY ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THE CAR WAS ON WARRANTY THEY CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG, BUT NOW EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAS A LITTLE OVER 35,000 MILES ON IT, AND IT IS A 2001 MODEL IT IS HAVING ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS.*AK
REGULAR USAGE OF CAR RESULTED IN HAVING TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE SPARK PLUG CABLES ON MY CAR. *AK
MY BRAKES WOULD SLOW THE CAR DOWN ON A STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, WHERE I WILL BE DRIVING SLOWLY (WITHOUT ME STEPPING ON THE BRAKES), MY CAR WOULD EVENTUALLY STOP AND WILL REQUIRE HEAVY ON THE GAS PEDAL TO ALLOW THE CAR TO MOVE. (WHILE THE CAR CAR IS IN THIS STAGE:ON A SMALL SLOPE THE CAR PLACED ON NETURAL WOULD NOT MOVE) THIS WOULD BRING THE RPM TO A HIGH RATE TO GO AT TWENTY KM PER HOUR (AROUND 3,000 TO 4,000 RPM). MY REAR DISC BRAKES WOUL HAVE HEAVY SMOKE ONCE I HAVE COME TO A FULL STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO THE BREAK IN OF THE ENGINE THAT WAS THE CAUSE. I HAVE CHANGED MY REAR BRAKE DISC PADS A COUPLE OF TIMES. THERE IS HEAVY SIGNS OF THE PADS BURNING(SMOKING), PEOPLE WITH SIMLAR CARS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE.*AK
WHILE AT 65 MPH IN LEFT LANE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRICITY FAILED, UNABLE TO SIGNAL OTHER MOTORIST WHILE I MOVED THE CAR TO SAFETY. THERE WAS NO WARNING. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS BATTERY AND CHARGED ME $250, AFTER MY MECHANIC COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. MANY PROBLEMS WITH OAKLAND DEALER BEFORE THIS. *AK
THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAD BECOME UNUSUALLY HOTTER THAN NORMAL. THIS CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO SUSTAIN MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK THE DEALER WANTED A NON REFUNDABLE FEE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM SO THE CONSUMER DID NOT TAKE IT IN FOR SERVICE. *TC THE DRIVER'S SEAT HAD A FAINT BURNING SMELL. *SC *JB
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I HAVE HAS MY OXYGEN SENSORS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY. I LOST TRACK AFTER 6 TIMES. THE DEALER (FAULKNER VOLKSWAGEN), HAS TOLD ME EVERYTIME THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS CAUSED BY THE OXYGEN SENSORS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY OTHER MECHANICS THAT THIS FAULT IN THE SENSORS CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE AT ANYTIME. WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, I LOOSE POWER IN MY CAR AND SOMETIMES IT STALLS EVEN WHEN I AM DRIVING IT. WITH THE VEHICLE STALLING WHILE DRIVING, THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL AS MYSELF. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS OR RESULTED IN ANY INJURIES DUE TO THIS YET, HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MATTER THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. *AK
BOTH WINDOWS ON THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S DOOR COLLAPSED AND NO LONGER WORK WITHIN 2 DAYS OF EACH OTHER. I HAVE READ ON MANY SIMILAR CASES ON VOLKSWAGEN JETTAS. IT APPEARS THAT VW USED PARTS WHICH DO NOT HAVE MUCH DURABILITY WHEN CONSTRUCTING THE WINDOW SUPPORTS. *JB
WHEN T-BONE AT 10 MPH, THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. *JB
MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS VERY UPSETTING AS I HAVE READ ON SEVERAL WEBSITES THAT VOLKSWAGEN JETTAS HAVE A TENDENCEY FOR THE WINDOWS TO BREAK. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THERE ISN'T A RECALL.*AK
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND THEY HAVE MADE MANY ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. CONSUMER HAD TO CALL THE DEALER BACK JUST 35 MINUTES AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER BECAUSE THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME RIGHT BACK ON. *AK
1 ) WHILE DRIVING WITH THE SEAT HEATER ON, THE SEAT BECAME BURNING HOT, TO A POINT WHERE I HAD TO GET OUT OF THE SEAT. THIS IS WHILE I AM DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE I-580. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO VW WITH NO AVAIL. I HAVE ALSO FOUND FROM OTHER REPORTS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER VEHICLES, TO A POINT WHERE SOME CAUGHT ON FIRE. VW REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, AND THE SERVICE DEPT EVEN WENT AS FAR AS RECOMMENDING ME JUST SWAPPING THE PASSENGER TO DRIVER SIDE HEAT CONTROL. *JB 2) THE FAILURE OF THE SEAT HEATER ALMOST LED TO A ACCIDENT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE WHILE NOT COMPLETELY SEATED TO PULL OVER . 3). VW HAS DONE NOTHING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE SINCE THEY STATE MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. *JB
SAFETY ISSUE WITH 2001 VW JETTA. *BF THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BECAME UNUSUALLY HOT THAN NORMAL AND THE INTERIOR LEATHER COVERING DEVELOPED A METALLIC APPEARANCE. A VW REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE SEAT AND STATED IT LOOKED LIKE EXTERNAL DAMAGED, BUT THE SEAT HAD TO BE FULLY INSPECTED FIRST. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LABOR IF WAS DETERMINED IT WAS NOT THE HEATING ELEMENT, BUT IF IT WAS THE HEATING ELEMENT VW WOULD COVER ALL COSTS. AFTER THE INSPECTION, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD A BEVERAGE WAS SPILLED ON THE SEAT WHICH CAUSED THE HEATING SEAT TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE CONSUMED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL, IN WHICH THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *JB
DRIVER SEAT BURN,SEAT COVER HAD LIQUID OF SOME TYPE LEAK INTO SEAT THROUGH SEAM INTO HEATING ELEMENTS. CAUSED A SHORT. *BF *TC *JB
PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FAILURE. WE SIMPLY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, PASSENGER PRESSED THE BUTTON TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDO, AND WHEN PASSENGER PUSHED BUTTON AGAIN TO RAISE WINDOW, IT SIMPLY COLLAPSED INTO THE DOOR FRAME. *AK
VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING TOO MUCH OIL. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF DESIGN VEHICLE WILL BURN THE AMOUNT OF OIL ALLOTTED PER 1,000 MILES. *AK CONSUMER NOTICED A CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM THE SUSPENSION WHEN TRAVELING BACKWARDS. *TC
MY BLINKERS ON MY JETTA BLINKED SLOWLY FOR A SECOND OR TWO THEN STOPPED WORKING, CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE AS I COULDN'T SIGNAL MY TURNS. I TOOK IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP WHO REPLACED THE EMERGENCY HAZARD SWITCH.
2001 JETTA ORIGINAL OWNER THE OIL PAN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT IS MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM AND THE PLUG IS MADE OUT OF STEEL .SINCE THE PLUG IS MADE OUT OF A HARDER MATERIAL IT STRIPPED THE PAN. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO KNOW I WILL HAVE TO PAY 600 DOLLARS. *NM
I OWN A VW JETTA 2001 VR6. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY REAR BRAKE PADS AT ONLY 20,000 MILES TO ME A VERY PREMATURE WEAR PROBLEM. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THEM AT NO COST TO ME DUE TO THE PREMATURE WEAR OF THE BRAKE PADS. THE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE PADS COST ME $200.00. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON ON THE SAME VW JETTA. TO FIND OUT I KNOW HAVE TO PAY $292.20 TO HAVE THE MAF SENSOR REPLACED ON A CAR THAT HAS ONLY 22,500 MILES. I AM TRYING TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT FROM VW OF AMERICA FOR THESE EXPENSES. IN ADDITION THIS YEAR I ALSO HAD TO PAY $300.00 TO HAVE THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH REPAIRED AS THE SPRING BROKE THAT ALLOWED ME TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE DOOR HANDLE. REGARDLESS, MY CAR IS KEPT IN PRISTINE CONDITION, AND IN NO WAY SHOULD I BE INCURRING THESE TYPE OF REPAIRS ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 20K MILES ON THE ODOMETER. PLEASE HELP ME. *AK

USING CUP HOLDER ABOVE CLIAMATE CONTROL AND RADIO LEAD TO SHORT CIRCUIT OF CLIMATE CONTROL AND THE FUNCTIONALITY OF MY RADIO. THE BUTTONS ON GHE RADIO DOES NOT WORK AS IT USE TO. I WILL REPLACE THE CLIMATE CONTROL AS SOON AS I CAN SAVE UP OVER $600.00 NOT TO INCLUDE LABOR. *AK
ALL CARS HAVE SAFETY LATCHES ON THE FRONT HOODS. THE SAFETY LATCH DID NOT WORK ON MY 2001 VW JETTA. THE INSIDE LATCH HAD BEEN RELEASED AND THEN INADVERTENTLY, THE CAR WAS DRIVEN AROUND THE CORNER. THERE IS NO IDIOT LIGHT ON DASH TO INDICATE HOOD WAS NOT FULLY LOCKED. AT 40 MPH, THE HOOD FLEW UP AND ALMOST RESULTED IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS DONE TO CAR AND FENDERS. 1) WHY ARE THERE NO IDIOT LIGHTS ON DASH TO INDICATE HOOD IS NOT CLOSED WHEN SUCH LIGHTS EXIST FOR TRUCK AND THIS IS FAR LESS DANGEROUS? 2) WHY DID SAFETY LATCH ON FRONT NOT WORK---IS THIS A DEFECT IN ALL VWS?. *AK
I WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON MY PASSENGER SIDE AND CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I HAD MY 2001 JETTA TOWED TO MY LOCAL VW DEALER AND THEY'RE RESPONSE IT THAT I MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING FOR THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. HOWEVER, I HAVE NO BODY DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF IMPACT ANYWHERE TO BE SEEN. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT HELPFUL AND TOLD ME TO FILE THE ISSUE WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AS AN ACCIDENT. THIS SEEMS TO BE INSURANCE FRAUD.*AK
