THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT OF MY 2002 VW JETTA SEDAN GOT EXTREMELY HOT WHILE I WAS SITTING ON IT CAUSING THE LEATHER SEAT TO START TO BURN AND MY BUTTOCKS TO BURN SLIGHTLY AS WELL.*AK
VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLS 2002 THE HEATED SEAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE STARTED TO SMOKE DUE TO FAULTY WIRING. *LA
I HAVE A 2002 1.8T VOLKSWAGEN JETTA - I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS FAILURES. 1)RADIO HAS FAILED TWICE - IN EACH INSTANCE FAULT WAS TRACED TO A FUSE - FOLLOWING RADIO FAILURE I EXPERIENCED REPEATED DEAD BATTERIES UNTIL THE RADIO WAS REPAIRED. 2) ABS FAILURE DETECTED WHEN I WAS GETTING MY RADIO FIXED THE SECOND TIME 3)VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO START ON TWO OCCASIONS - I WAIT A MINUTE AND TRY AGAIN - IT WORKED 4)MY WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR 5)I EXPERIENCED AN ACTIVATION OF NUMEROUS ENGINE FAULT LIGHTS THAT RESET FOLLOWING ENGINE RESTART 6)THE COATING ON INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE SURFACES PEELS OFF EASILY 7)THE CHROME RING AROUND THE SHIFT KNOW IS PEELING. *AK
WAS DRIVING 15-20 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE RAN OVER A POTHOLE. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALERSHIP WERE CONTACTED. CONSUMER DIDN'T TAKE THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE MECHANIC CHECK. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *PH
THE SEAT WARMER OF MY 2002 VOLKSWAGON JETTA MALFUNCTIONED AND STARTED A FIRE WITHIN THE SEAT. THERE WAS SMOKE AND A FLAME INSIDE THE SEAT. IT BURNED THE PANTS I WAS WEARING. AND BURNED MY LEG SLIGHTLY.*AK ***WHEN I CALLED THE SERVICE CENTER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, THEY SAID "YEAH, THAT'S BEEN HAPPENING, WE'RE CALLING THE CARS 'HOT PANTS'" THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE SEATS ARE ON BACK ORDER, AND THAT THEY HAVE HAD A CAR THERE FOR OVER A WEEK THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
ALL FOUR TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT MAY CAUSE A SEVERE BLOWOUT WHILE DRIVING. *AK *NLM SERVICE MANAGER NOTED HE HAS SEEN OTHER FAILURES LIKE THESE AND THERE MAY BE A TREND. *PH
DRIVER SEAT HEATER MALFUNCTIONED, BURNING THE SEAT CUSHION, MY CLOTHING AND SKIN, CAUSING MINOR INJURY.*AK
WHILE HOME ON LEAVE, MY SON HAD A FLAT. UPON TAKING THE TIRE OFF, WE DISCOVERED THE INSIDE SEPARATING. ALMOST LIKE A SLIT ON THE INSIDE WALLS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, ALL FOUR TIRES WERE THE SAME. WE HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR. THESE ARE THE EAGLE RSA, HIGH PERFORMANCE TIRES, WITH LESS THAN 20000 MILES ON THEM. FOUR BLOWOUTS WAITING TO HAPPEN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING. AS I PULLED OVER I FELT I WAS BEING BURNED ON MY UPPER LEFT LEG (REAR END). I GOT OUT AND CHECKED AND MY SEAT HEATING UNIT HAD BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT, THROUGH MY PANTS AND COAT AND BURNED MY SKIN.*AK
THE VEHICLE'S TDI (TURBO INJECTED INJECTION) FAILED TO START. IT WAS SAID TO BE DUE TO BUILT UP WITH CARBON AND SOOT. THE CONSUMER'S SON AND FRIEND EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *AK *SC
SINCE BUYING MY JETTA NEW IN 2002. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. TWICE THE IGNITION COILS FAILED, AND I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THEY WOULDN'T REPLACE ALL THE DEFECTIVE COILS THE FIRST TIME. SO, NOW THAT I KNOW MY CAR IS UNRELIABLE, I WON'T BE USING IT FOR LONG TRIPS, WHICH WAS MY MAIN REASON FOR BUYING THE CAR. THEN LAST NIGHT ON MY WAY DOWN THE ROAD, THE HEATED SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED A WHOLE IN MY SEAT, NOT TO MENTION WHAT IT DID TO ME AS I WAS DRIVING. THIS CAR JUST SEEMS TOTALLY UNSAFE. FIRST THERE IS NO POWER WHEN THE IGNITION COILS FAIL, THEN THE DRIVER SEAT CATCHES ON FIRE AS I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. OF COURSE THE DEALER CAN'T GET ME IN UNTIL LATER THIS WEEK.*AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER SMELLED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE THE SMELL, AND NOTICED THAT DRIVER'S SEAT WAS BURNING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP.*AK
WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF STARTING VEHICLE AND TURNING ON THE SEAT WARMER CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE, AND FELT A BURNING SENSATION ON THE LEGS. DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEAT COIL BURNED OUT THROUGH THE SEATS UPHOLSTERY. CONSUMER TURNED SEAT WARMER OFF BEFORE BURN INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED.*AK *NLM
VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING IN FREEWAY TRAFFIC. AFTER PULLING OVER, CAR RESTARTED. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE NOTICED. UPON RETURNING HOME, GLOW PLUG LIGHT LIT TWICE WITH ENGINE BUCKING. DEALER REPLACED GLOW PLUG WIRING HARNESS WITH A NEW PART THAT WAS RELEASED BY VOLKSWAGEN (VW) IN OCTOBER, 2003. VW WOULD NOT WARRANT REPLACEMENT PART OR LABOR. DEALER STATED THIS IS NOT AN UNUSUAL FAILURE. *LA
DRIVER SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
I HAVE TAKEN IN MY 2002 VW JETTA ABOUT 9 TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS: THE ENGINE COMES ON, THE DOORS HAVE MESSED UP, THE ODOMETER IS INCORRECT AND THE SPEEDOMETER FLOATS DRASTICALLY 5-10 MILES UP AND DOWN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CAR NOT ONLY FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT CAUSE A FIRE, BUT ALSO BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW FAST THEY REALLY ARE GOING - THIS IS AN EXTREME HAZARD. MY FRIEND'S 2001 VW JETTA IS JUST STARTING TO DO THE SAME THINGS AS MINE, WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON, AND A WOMEN TODAY SAID ALL OF HER FRIENDS GOT RID OF THEIRS FOR THE SAME REASONS - JETTAS WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. *LA
HEATED SEAT OVER HEATED AND STARTED TO BURN A HOLE THROUGH THE SEAT. ONLY WAS PREVENTED FROM BURNING LEG DUE TO THE FACT I HAD SHORTS ON AND LAYERED WINDPANTS OVER THE SHORTS - I.E. 3 LAYERS OF CLOTHES. *AK
VEHICLE'S SEAT HEATER CAUGHT ON FIRE.*MR CONSUMER SMELLED BURNING AND ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW ABOUT THREE INCHES DUE TO THE RECENT FOREST FIRES. SHE THEN FELT A BURNING SENSATION, LOOKED DOWN AND SAW A 6-8" FLAME COMING UP HER LEFT SIDE. SHE WAS BURNED AS WELL AS HER CLOTHING AND SEAT. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PICTURES WERE SENT TO NHTSA VIA EMAIL. *PH
THE CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEATER ON. THE CONSUMER OPENED THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND THE DRIVER'S SEAT CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED THE CONSUMER. *AK *SCC *JB
MY HEATED SEATS CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT MY ASS.*AK
MY 2002 VW JETTA HAS BEEN SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ALMOST 30 DAYS WAITING FOR AN ABS CONTROL MODULE. NO ONE AT THE DEALERSHIP OR VW OF AMERICA CAN TELL ME WHEN THE PART WILL BE SHIPPED OR IF IT HAS EVEN BEEN SHIPPED YET. I CALL EVERY DAY TO FIND OUT STATUS, AND STILL NO ONE AT THIS HUGE CORPORATION HAS AN ANSWER. *LA
THE POWER ASSIST FOR THIS TDI VEHICLE HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES UNDER SEVERAL DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. MOST OFTEN, IT OCCURS WHEN APPLYING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 70MPH AND ALSO WHEN HAVING TO RAPIDLY DECELLERATE OR MOVE ALONG WITH CITY RELATED TRAFFIC. MOST OFTEN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, BUT BY THE TIME IT DOES, I ALREADY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE NO PASSING GEAR, AND TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP TO 60 MPH TAKES A MINUTE OR MORE. TYPICALLY, WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS, IF I STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN IT OFF, AND CRANK IT AGAIN, THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED UNTIL THE CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH BRING ABOUT THE PROBLEM ARE RE-ENACTED. IT WILL USUALLY TAKE SEVERAL CYCLES OF THE ENGINE BEING CRANKED AND TURNED OFF BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL TURN ITSELF OFF. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED WITH ABOUT 35,000 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED ABOUT 100 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPEATED REPAIRS, I'VE SINCE COME TO LEARN THAT SIMILAR PROBLEMS WERE OCCURRING WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO MY PURCHASING IT (WERE NOT DISCLOSED AT PURCHASE), ACCORDING TO SERVICE RECORDS.*AK
THE POWER WINDOWS AND ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS OF MY 2002 JETTA DOESN'T WORK ? WINDOWS WON'T OPEN AND DOORS WON'T LOCK. IT HAS TO BE DONE MANUALLY UNTIL THEY STOPPED WORKING FOR TWO MONTHS WITH NO SIGNS OR ANY WARNING. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SUGGESTED THAT A NEW COMFORT CONTROL CENTER MODULE IS NEEDED. SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT, THE PART COST $300. VW AMERICA HAS DENIED MY CLAIM AND WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE MALFUNCTION IS BELIEVED TO BE A DEFECT ON THE ORIGINAL PART AND I'M NOT LIABLE OR HOLD RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS REPLACEMENT, SINCE THE FAILURE OF OPERATION AS IT SHOULD BE IS AT NO FAULT OR NEGLIGENCE ON MY BEHALF AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. *LA
2002 JETTA TDI DEVELOPED ODOR ON THE INTERIOR AT 20000 MILES. NATIONAL VOLKSWAGEN IN JACKSONVILLE, NC HAS SERVICED PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT CORRECTION OF ODOR PROBLEM. THEY CLAIM ODOR WILL GO AWAY SINCE THEY CLEANED OUT AIR CONDITIONER BOX BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE DASH. NATIONAL ALSO DISCOVERED PROBLEM IN A NEW 2004 PASSAT. ODOR STILL EXISTS. CAR HAS BEEN DETAILED, SPRAYED WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. VARIOUS PEOPLE HAVE SAT IN CAR AND WITNESSED ODOR. CUSTOMER SERVICE AT VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA TAKES WORD OF THE DEALER THAT PROBLEM IS FIXED AND ODOR WILL GO AWAY ONE DAY. *AK
TOTAL BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE (ALL BRAKE LIGHTS) WITHOUT WARNING AND WITH NO WARNING LIGHT TO LET ME KNOW THEY WERE OUT. *AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY COMES ON, COMPLETED RECALL FOR BRAKE SWITCH, EPC LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON, CAR STALLS WHILE WAITING FOR A LIGHT TO CHANGE VERY DANGEROUS. AFTER A NIGHT OF RAIN, LEAK IN PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR MOLD GROWING CAR WILL HAVE A VERY HARD START OR NO START AT ALL IN THE MORNING, REPLACED BATTERY 3 TIMES. CHANGED O2 SENSOR 2X, CAR BURNS OIL CONTINUOUSLY, INTERIOR LIGHTS GO OUT WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT, BRAKE LIGHTS DIE OUT FAST, CHANGED BRAKE LIGHTS AND SIGNAL LIGHTS AT LEAST 5X. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-64 IN RICHMOND, VA AND MY DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH SUDDENLY SPEED DECREASED TO 25 MPH FOR 10 SECONDS. DEALER HAD INSPECTED VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. THE PROBLEM. *AK
THE CLUTCH COMPLETELY BLEW OUT ON MY 2002 JETTA VR6 AT 27,000 MILES ON 8/25/2003. IT IS COSTING $966 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH (I WILL KNOW THE EXACT PARTS ONCE I GET IT BACK FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT). I WAS TOLD BY THE VW DEALERSHIP AND VW OF AMERICA THAT THIS IS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" AND NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I DO NOT RIDE THE CLUTCH AND DRIVE ALL HIGHWAY MILES. THE CLUTCH WAS NOT RUINED BY "POOR DRIVING" OR "CITY DRIVING" DESPITE WHAT VW OF AMERICA AND THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING. THE CLUTCH MUST BE DEFECTIVE. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH VW JETTA STANDARD TRANSMISSION CARS MADE DURING/AFTER 1999 (THE YEAR VW REMODELED THEIR CARS). THESE PEOPLE HAVE ALSO HAD THEIR CLUTCH GO OUT WITH 10,000-35,000 MILES ON THEIR CARS, WERE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS, AND WERE FORCED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. ALSO, WHEN I DID GET MY CAR BACK I ASKED FOR THE PARTS THAT HAD BEEN REPLACED (SO I COULD HAVE AN INDEPENDANT MECHANIC LOOK AT THEM) AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN SENT BACK TO THE FACTORY. THIS LEAVES ME WITH NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE PARTS. SINCE THEN I HAVE WRITTEN VW DEMANDING IT FIND & RETURN THE PARTS OR REFUND THE REPAIR COSTS.
IGNITION COIL HAS FAILED, CAUSING VEHICVLE TO LOSE ALL POWER. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
I HAD A 2002 VW JETTA 1.8T THAT DEVELOPED SERIOUS PROBLEMS RELATED TO A COMPTER GLICHE THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH FUEL EMISSIONS AS PER THE VW ENGINEER I SPOKE WITH. THE VEHICLE WOULD EXPERIENCE MULTIPLE ENGINE MISFIRES RESULTING IN SYMPTOMS OF HIGH ENGINE IDLING, DECREASED ABILITY TO ACCELERATE, STUTTERING OF THE ENGINE UPON START OR WITH GEAR CHANGES AND OVER ALL SLUGGISHNESS WHEN DRIVING. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS AWARDED TO ME AFTER I FILED A LEMON LAW CASE AND VW STATED THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS GIVEN THE EXACT SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE IN NOV 2002. THIS VEHICLE STARTED DOING THE SAME THING IN JULY 2002. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO STATED VW HAD NOT YET COME UP WITH A FIX. THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER BUT WITHIN IN A WEEK THE CAR WAS EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS. AT THAT TIME I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND INFORMED THEM I WAS GOING TO FILE A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT AGAIN. THE NEXT THING I KNOW A VW REP IS IN TOWN LOOKING AT MY VEHICLE. I WAS THEN INFORMED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE REP DID SOMETHING TO THE COMPUTER AND NOW I CAN ONLY USE PREMIUM GASOLINE. MY CONCERN IS THAT HE TWEEKED THE COMPUTER AND THAT MY VEHICLE MAY NOT BE MEETING THE FUEL EMISSION STANDARDS. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS RE: THE 1.8T MODEL ON ALL THE VW SITES YET VW APPEARS TO BE SWEEPING IT UNDER THE RUG. CHECK OUT WWW.MYVWLEMON.COM AND YOU WILL SEE THE MANY PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM YET VW WILL NOT ADDRESS IT UNLESS ONE IS PERSISTENT. MY CONCERN IS THAT A VEHICL THAT NEVER REQUIRED PREMIUM GASOLINE BEFORE REQUIRES IT NOW AFTER THE ENGINERR "TWEEKED" IT.*AK
I PURCHASED MY JETTA IN MARCH 2002, AND EXPERIENCED NO MAJOR PROBLEMS WITHIN THE FIRST 30,000 MILES. ON JULY 19, 2003, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO VW AFTER HEARING A RATTLING NOISE WHEN MAKING TURNS AND IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT (MILEAGE: 33,996). THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM, HOWEVER AT THE SAME TIME, THE IGNITION COILS WERE REPLACED DUE TO A VW RECALL, THE FIRST OF SEVERAL. I CONTINUED TO CONTEND WITH THE RATTLING FOR SEVERAL MORE MONTHS, AND FINALLY BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO VW ON NOVEMBER 14, 2003 (MILEAGE: 39,038). AT THIS POINT, THE PRESSURE HOSE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. MY CAR FUNCTIONED WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL JULY 2004, WHEN I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WORKED SPORADICALLY. I DID NOT REALIZE THE CONNECTION TO THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM UNTIL AUGUST 25, 2004, WHEN MY CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW SERVICE SHOP IN, WHERE I WAS CHARGED $4 FOR A COOLING FAN FUSE AND $90 IN LABOR (NOT TO MENTION THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED DUE TO ANOTHER PRODUCT RECALL). I WAS CHARGED $101.76, AND THE PROBLEM WAS STILL NOT SOLVED! ON AUGUST 27, 2004, I SPENT $659.04 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO HAVE BOTH THE AC AND RADIATOR COOLING FANS REPLACED (MILEAGE: 52,650). I DROVE MY CAR WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOVEMBER 16, 2004, WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I SPENT ANOTHER $93.28 FOR A NEW COOLANT SENSOR, COOLANT REFILL, AND LABOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON IN APRIL 2005, AND RESULTED IN ANOTHER TRIP TO THE MECHANIC, COSTING ME ANOTHER $45.53. ON AUGUST 5, 2005 (MILEAGE: 68K), MY CAR OVERHEATED YET AGAIN. THE CURRENT SITUATION I AM FACED WITH IS $450 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP AND $150 TO REPLACE A VACUUM HOSE. I AM HESITANT TO DRIVE MY CAR, FOR FEAR THAT IT WILL OVERHEAT AGAIN, OR WORSE, WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. *NM
RICHARD GUNN WROTE TO GOODYEAR; I HAVE A 2002 VW JETTA THAT CAME STOCK WITH GOODYEAR EAGLE RSA TIRES,225/45R17 91H. AT 13,000 MILES ONE OF THE TIRES WENT FLAT BUT DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ANY NAILS OR HOLES IN IT WHEN I REMOVED IT, ALTHOUGH THESIDEWALL WAS SPLIT. I TOOK THE TIRE INTO THE CLEM TIRE COMPANY 7907 HIGHWAY 72, MADISON, AL 35758 , 256-837-9151. ONE TIRE WAS PUT ON ORDER AS THESE TIRES ARE AN UNUSUAL SIZE FOR THIS CAR. THE FOLLOWING DAY A SECOND TIRE WENT FLAT. AGAIN THERE WAS NO NAIL OR EXPLAINABLE CAUSE. A SECOND TIRE WAS ORDERED. WHEN THE TIRES CAME IN I WENT DOWN TO HAVE THEM INSTALLED. I ASKED THE SHOP TO LOOK AT THE FRONT TWO TIRES TO SEE THAT THEY WERE OK AS I HAD NOW BECOME SUSPICIOUS OF THESE TIRES. THE SHOP FOUND THE FRONT TWO TIRES WERE SPLIT OUT ON THE INSIDE SIDEWALLS AS WELL. THE SHOP CONTACTED GOODYEAR WHO WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES FREE AND ASKED TO SEND THE TIRES BACK FOR EVALUATION. THE TIRES THAT ARE BEING RETURNED ARE THE SAME AS WHAT WAS JUST PUT ON MY CAR AND FRANKLY I AM NOT ALL THAT WARM AND FUZZY THAT THEY ARE SAFE TO DRIVE ON. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE FAILURE ANALYSIS REPORT ON THE RETURNED TIRES, COMPLETE WITH CONCLUSION AS TO THE FAILURE MECHANISM. ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE CORRECTIVE ACTION IS TO VERIFY THAT THIS TIRE OR LOT HAS BEEN ISOLATED SO THAT OTHERS MIGHT NOT BE INJURED DUE TO DEFECTS IN THIS TIRE. WINDOWS FALL OFF OF TRACK IN DOOR. GLASS FALLS COMPLETELY INSIDE THE DOOR. THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS ENTERING A 6 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. ON THE PREVIOUS TWO FAILURES, VW WOULD NOT REPLACE ALL FOUR COILS, BUT ONLY THOSE COILS THAT WERE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. AS A RESULT WORK TIME HAS BEEN LOST, AND IT HAS BEEN A GREAT INCONVENIENCE TO TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK, HAVE THE CAR TOWED, AND TRAVEL TO THE REPAIR FACILITY. I WANT TO KNOW WHY NHTSA HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT THE VW IGNITION COIL FAILURES. THIS CAR HAS HAD TOO MANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS TO BE LIMITED TO THIS SMALL SPACE. IT IS CLEARLY A LEMON. THESE PROBLEMS SUBSTANTIALLY IMPAIR THE USE AND VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR RECEIVED A NEW TRANSMISSION YESTERDAY AFTER WE HAD REPORTED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES THAT THERE IT REMAINED IN REVERSE AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. EACH TIME WE WERE TOLD IT WAS UNREPRODUCEABLE AND THE COMPLAINT WAS NEVER NOTED ON THE WORK ORDERS. FINALLY, THE DEALERSHIP DID RELENT AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. WE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME TYPE OF TREATMENT WITH THE ENGINE BURNING OIL, AND IT WASN'T UNTIL THE ENGINE RAN COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL, THAT THE DEALER WOULD ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME WE HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THE OIL WAS 2 MONTHS AFTER WE HAD BOUGHT THE CAR!!!
ON THE MORNING OF SUNDAY, MAY 4TH, 2003, I MADE A SHARP RIGHT HAND TURN AND INADVERTENTLY DROVE OVER THE CURB WITH MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL. I IMMEDIATELY HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE TWO DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS WENT OFF. I SUFFERED ONLY BRUISES FROM THE IMPACT OF THE AIRBAGS. THIS INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY ON MONDAY, MAY 5TH. ON TUESDAY, MAY 6TH, I CALLED THE DEALER TO GET MY CAR IN FOR WORK. AS OF TODAY, FRIDAY, MAY 9TH, I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THE DEALER, WHO NEEDED TO ORDER THE PARTS. WHEN I'M ABLE TO SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT TO TAKE MY CAR IN, MY INSURANCE COMPANY ASKED TO HAVE THEM CHECK TO SEE IF THERE WAS A JOLT TO THE FLOOR PAN OR SUSPENSION THAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO GO OFF. THERE IS NO VISUAL DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL, AND THE CAR IS DRIVABLE. (I'VE BEEN DRIVING IT TO AND FROM WORK THIS WEEK). I DON'T BELIEVE THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE WENT OFF IN THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION. I'M NOW VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT WITH THE FEAR OF HITTING A SPEED BUMP OR A POT HOLE!!!! IF THERE HAD BEEN A LOT OF TRAFFIC AT THAT TIME OF THE MORNING, A VERY BAD ACCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED. *JB

HOW CAN A CAR MANUFACTURER ALLOW SOMEONE TO DRIVE AROUND IN A UNSAFE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU OR THE DEALER CAN NOT PREDICT WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN NEXT? THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED, BUT THE CORPORATIONS ALWAYS WIN.
