WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 4 AT 65 MPH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WENT FROM DRIVE TO SECOND GEAR BY ITSELF EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SELECTOR WAS IN DRIVE, NEARLY PUTTING ME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD HAD I NOT HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. I MANAGED TO GET ONTO THE BURM OF THE HIGHWAY AND STOP. AT THIS POINT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS DUMPING ALL OVER THE ROAD AND THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER MOVE AND THE DIGITAL GEAR SELECTION LIGHT WAS FLASHING ON AND OFF CONTINUOUS(PRND). HAD IT TOWED TO MY VW MECHANIC AND THEY FOUND THAT THE ELECTRONIC VALVE ASSEMBLY HAD QUIT WORKING AND THAT THE MECH TRONIC CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS DESTROYED BY IT GOING FROM DRIVE TO 2ND . AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT VW HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS SENT OUT LETTERS TO CUSTOMERS THAT HAVE 2007-2010 VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME TRANSMISSION THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OR RE-IMBURSE THEM FOR REPAIRS IF DONE PRIOR TO THIS LETTER UP TO 100000 MILES. I CONTACTED VW USA AND ASKED ABOUT MY CAR AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE MY CAR WAS A 2006 IT WASN'T COVERED EVEN THOUGH I GOT THEM TO ADMIT THAT IT WAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION THAT WAS USED FOR 2005.5 THROUGH 2010. *TR
2006 VW JETTA, DRIVING DOWN STREET 11/09/12 DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON, I STOP TO CLOSE DOORS AND LIGHT GOES OFF. I PULL INTO WORK PARKING LOT AND GET OUT OF CAR AS I CLICK THE KEY TO LOCK THE CAR, NOTHING. I THEN PROCEED TO CHECK THE CAR.. NOTHING IS WORKING. CANNOT ACCESS GAS CAP TO PUT GAS IN CAR, SOME LIGHTS MAY NOT BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, AIRBAG LIGHT NOT ON, DOOR WILL NOT LOCK, WINDOW WILL NOT RESPOND, NO CAR ALARM. DRIVERS SIDE OF CAR HAS NO POWER AT ALL. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS AND IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. ALTHOUGH I DID LOOK ONLINE AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH REGARD TO A "BROWN WIRE OR WIRES TOO SHORT INSIDE THE BOOT TO THE BODY CONNECTOR". MOST PEOPLE REPORT THAT EVEN AFTER A VW FIX, PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. CAR NOT ACTING PROPERLY AND WITH ELECTRICAL AND HAVING BEEN IN A VW CAR FIRE DO NOT WISH TO REPEAT THIS SCENARIO. I CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER CARE WHO POLITELY TOLD ME THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO ESCALATE TO A MANAGER. SINCE THIS JUST HAPPENED TODAY I HAVE NOT HAD AN OPPORTUNITY FOR VW TO LOOK AT IT, BUT WILL TOMORROW AS I HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO PUT GAS IN CAR AND SEE IF THEY FEEL AUTO IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE HEATED SEAT ON , I HAD IT ON 5 WHICH IS THE MAX SETTING AND I FELT A BURNING SENSATION NEAR MY RIGHT SHOULDER AREA SO I FELT MY BACK AND THOUGHT WOW SO I TURNED IT DOWN AND AFTER PULLING IN MY GARAGE I LOOKED AND THE SEAT WAS SLIGHTLY MELTED ABOUT THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL AND MY JACKET WAS SLIGHTLY MELTED I AM GOING TO CONTACT MY LOCAL DEALER TOMORROW TO SEE IF THERE'S A RECALL (BEWARE IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN FIRE I BELIEVE IF I WOULD HAVE KEPT IT ON LONG ENOUGH.) *TR
THE OIL PAN IN THE ABOVE MENTIONED VECHILE THAT I OWN HAD TO BE CHANGED DUE TO A DESIGN PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER HAD PUT A ALUMINUM PAN WITH A STEEL BOLT. THE STEEL BOLT OVER THE YEARS CORRODED THE PAN NECESSIATING A REPLACEMENT OF THE PAN. FITZGERALD AUTOMALL (410-224-3480) IN ANNAPOLIS MD REPLACED THE PAN FREE OF LABOR BUT CHARGED ME FOR THE OIL PAN. THEY DID INFORM ME THAT IT WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM THAT VW HAS SINCE RECTIFIED IN THE NEWER MODELS AND THAT I HAD TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER FOR REIMBURSEMENT. WHEN I CONTACTED VW, THEY REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY INFORMED IT WAS UNDER THEIR DISCRETION TO RECTIFY THE DEFECT IN NEWER MODELS AND WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OLDER MODELS. IN MY OPINION VW SHOULD REIMBURSE ME AND ALSO RECALL ALL THEIR VEHICLES WITH THIS ISSUE TO BE ADDRESSED APPROPRIATELY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THE DUAL MASS FLY-WHEEL AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH HEADLINER *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WITHIN IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, HE NOTICED THE HEADLINER WAS PULLING AWAY FROM THE REAR PILLARS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO AVOID CRASHING INTO A CAT AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A GRADE THREE CONCUSSION AS WELL AS FRACTURED RIBS. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS FILED) POLICE REPORT NUMBER:CA1200564). THE CONTACT COULD NOT RECALL SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE CRASH DUE TO HIS INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND AFTER PERFORMING AN INVESTIGATION, THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD PERFORMED IN THE MANNER THAT IT WAS DESIGNED, OFFERING NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THE HEADLINER IS PULLING AWAY FROM THE REAR PILLARS. BEING THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE I DO NOT SPEND TIME IN THE BACK SEAT. MY DAUGHTER IS CURRENTLY LEARNING TO DRIVE SO ON A RECENT ERRAND I WAS SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT AND LOOKED UP TO SEE THE HEADLINER COMPLETELY PULLING AWAY AND COMING DOWN FROM THE ROOF OF THE CAR AND DOME LIGHT. WHEN I GOT BACK HOME, I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND FOUND A MULTITUDE OF WEBSITES, FORUMS, ETC. WITH PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN ABUNDANT IN THIS VEHICLE STARTING IN 2012. DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCKS WORK RANDOMLY. THE CAR RESPONDS TO THE KEYS RANDOMLY EVEN WITH A NEW BATTERY. ALARM WILL SOUND WHEN IT FAILS TO RESPOND TO KEY. OVER THE LAST YEAR LIGHTS GO OUT MONTHLY. SHIFTER ELECTRONICS FAILED. REPAIRED IN JUNE 2014. MECHANIC HAD NO IDEA WHY IT WOULD GO OUT WHICH WAS CAUSE FOR MY CONCERN. *TR
I WAS SITTING IN TRAFFIC IN MINNEAPOLIS MN. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, TRAFFIC MOVED AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE ENGINE SPED UP AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE SHIFT SELECTOR WAS IN D FOR DRIVE. THE PRNDL INDICATOR ON THE DASH FLASHED RED WITH ALL FIVE LETTERS ILLUMINATED. I TRIED TURNING OFF THE IGNITION AND TURNING IT BACK ON WITH THE SAME RESULTS. NO MOVEMENT WITH ENGINE ACCELERATING. AFTER BEING PUSHED INTO A PARKING LOT BY PASSERSBY, I TRIED AGAIN AND THE TRANSMISSION WORKED AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, I FIND THAT IT IS A COMMON VW PROBLEM AND THE NHTSA ACTION NUMBER IS PE09035 OPENED JULY 17, 2009 COVERING 2008 AND 2009 MODELS. MY TDI IS A 2006 MODEL PURCHASED IN MAY 2007 BECAUSE VW KEPT SELLING 2006 TDIS IN 2007. THERE WERE NO 2007 VW JETTA TDIS. *TR
AT 130,623 MILES OUR JETTA HAD TO HAVE THE CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS REPLACED. THE LOBES ON THE CAMSHAFT HAD COMPLETELY WORN OFF AND THE LIFTERS HAD PITTED. I FEEL LIKE OUR DIESEL MOTOR HAS AGED PREMATURELY AND THERE IS AN UNDERLYING PROBLEM THAT VW IS IGNORING. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR. WE ARE HAVING BOTH REPLACED, BUT UNTIL THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM IS FOUND THERE WILL BE AN ISSUE AGAIN. VW MUST KNOW OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY STOPPED PRODUCTION OF THE TDI JETTA IN 2006. THE 2006 WAS THE LAST YEAR BEFORE STOPPING PRODUCTION. WHY WOULD THEY STOP MAKING A CAR THAT WAS IN SUCH HIGH DEMAND WITH THE RISING COST OF DIESEL AND GAS. THEY KNEW OF AN ISSUE IN THE CAR THAT THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT. NOW THEY IGNORE THE PROBLEM AND CONTINUE TO BLAME THE CUSTOMER FOR POOR MAINTENANCE. THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IN MY VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THE CAUSE WAS A FAULTY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HARNESS. THERE WERE SEVERAL WIRES THAT WERE BROKEN OR ABOUT TO BREAK, AND THEY SUGGESTED I REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY. I WAS QUOTED OVER $400 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THIS ISSUE WAS RECALLED ON THE EARLIER MODELS, AND THEN FIXED ON THE 2008 AND LATER MODELS DURING PRODUCTION. HOWEVER THE 2006 AND 2007 MODELS ARE STILL AFFECTED BY THE PROBLEM. VOLKSWAGEN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS CRUCIAL PART AND CONTINUES TO LET ITS CUSTOMERS PAY FOR THE DANGEROUS DESIGN FLAW IN THESE VEHICLES. WARNING TO POTENTIAL BUYERS: BEFORE PURCHASING A 2005.5 (NEWER BODY STYLE), 2006, OR 2007 JETTA CHECK TO MAKE SURE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. OTHERWISE, YOU COULD WIND UP WITH YOUR POWER WINDOWS, LOCKS, MIRRORS, GAS DOOR, AND TRUNK RELEASE NO LONGER WORKING WHEN YOU NEED THEM TO. ALSO, I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION WITH THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A RISK AND A SAFETY CONCERN THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
ENGINE LOSS OF POWER, BLACK SMOKE FROM EXHAUST AND PINGING NOISE FROM ENGINE VEHICLE STALLED A FEW TIME IN TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH OTHER VEHICLES DRIVING VEHICLE TO WORK, STARTED MAKING NOISE AND DECIDED TO DRIVE TO VW DEALERSHIP. DEARLERSHIP FIRST DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A BAD CLUTCH. UNDER MY RECOMMENDATION CAMSHAFT WAS INSPECTED AND FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AS WELL AS THE LIFTERS THAT CONTACT THE CAMSHAFT. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NOT A VW PROBLEM AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE CAMSHAFT. IF YOU LOOK ON THE INTERNET, MANY TDI VW OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT BEING RECONGIZED BY VW AND IS COSTING OWNERS A LOT OF MONEY IN REPAIRS AS WELL AS CREATING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS FOR OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE DRIVE TRAIN WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS BANGING UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FLY WHEEL WITHIN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
ON HIGHWAY GOING APPROX 60 MPH, CAR LOCKED UP, SKIDDING FOR ABOUT 50 FEET. WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE CLUTCH, ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING THOUGH. GOT CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, DISCOVERED ENGINE MOUNT BOLT HAD SHEARED OFF, CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS HAD ALL OIL CHANGES/ETC ( 2K MILES LATE FOR 60K SERVICE). *TR
WENT TO START CAR WAS MISFIRING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TOWED TO A SHOP THE TOLD ME MY TIMING CHAIN JUMPED AND IT WAS 2500 DOLLARS TO FIX. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WIRING HARNESS HAS DESIGN FLAW AS REFLECTED IN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS DOCUMENTED ON-LINE. REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLES MAY BE FOUND AT FOLLOWING LINK. ACCESS TO GAS TANK TO FILL REQUIRES DISMANTLING OF TRUNK COMPARTMENT FOR MANUAL LATCH MANIPULATION, WHICH CARRIES RISK OF CUTS AND BRUISES. REPAIR COSTS $677.00. CAMSHAFT BEGAN KNOCKING AROUND 100,000 MILES. MANY OTHER '06 JETTA TDI HAVE HAD PREMATURE CAMSHAFT FAILURES AS WELL. KNOCKING INTENSIFIED JUST BEFORE 101,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC WHO WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE, AS HE HAS SEEN MORE THAN HIS SHARE. HE SAID THE EARLIEST FAILURE HE HAS SEEN WAS AT AROUND 40,000 MILES. I HAD TO GO TO GREAT EXPENSE TO REPLACE CAM FOLLOWER, CAMSHAFT AND CAM BEARINGS. IT ALSO CAUSED PREMATURE WEAR ON MY LIFTERS, WHICH I EXPECT I'LL HAVE TO DO SOON, AS THEY ARE STARTING TO "TICK". I LOVE MY TDI, AND HAVE MADE SURE ALL SERVICE WAS DONE PROMPTLY. I AM FRUSTRATED THAT VWAG HAS DENIED THERE IS A PROBLEM. IF ENOUGH PEOPLE COMPLAIN, THEN THEY WILL HAVE TO ADMIT THAT POOR ENGINEERING IS THE CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE CAMSHAFT FAILURES THAT ARE PLAGUING PUMPED USE OWNERS. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 122,000.
ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND COULD NOT RESTART THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE CRANKED BUT WOULD NOT START. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND RE-OCCURRED EVEN AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND FILTER. AFTER ONLY 40 MILES AND ONE DAY OF DRIVING IT IS AT THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. *JS
THIS VEHICLE IS A 2006 TURBO DIESEL VW JETTA. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ENGINE FAILED, NO WARNING LIGHTS. EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER, ROUGH IDLING, VALVE TRAIN NOISE AND TRANSMISSION NOISE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO CERTIFIED MECHANIC. MECHANIC FOUND COMPLETE LOSS OF COMPRESSION ON ONE PISTON AND SCORED LIFTERS. ALSO DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL WAS MAKING LOUD NOISE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP QUOTED EST 1800 DOLLARS FOR PARTS AND LABOR FOR FLYWHEEL AND CERTIFIED MECHANIC RECOMMENDS REBUILT ENGINE FOR APPX 5000 DOLLARS PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL. ESTIMATE WILL BE COMPLETE NEXT WEEK. TOTAL WILL EST AROUND 9 TO 10,000 DOLLARS FOR TOWING, INSPECTING VEHICLE TO FIND ISSUES, PARTS AND LABOR. SPOKE WITH VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA CONSUMER ADVOCATE WHO OFFERED US $750 OFF A NEW VW. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR WITH APPROPRIATE OIL CHANGES USING VW APPROVED OIL. MOST OF THE MILEAGE WAS OBTAINED AS HIGHWAY MILES. *JS
THE CAR ALARM RANDOMLY ARMS ITSELF WHILE PARKED. THE REPAIR SHOP SEES NO ERROR CODES BUT WE CAN SEE THAT THE DOOR AJAR INDICATOR RANDOMLY LIGHTS UP WHILE DRIVING. ODDLY, THE DOOR OPEN CHIME DOES NOT SOUND. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK. THE LOCKS, WINDOWS, MIRRORS, TRUNK LATCH, GAS TANK LATCH, MIRROR DEFROSTER ET AL. IN SPEAKING THE VW SERVICE REPS THEY KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT THE ISSUE WAS A BROKEN HARNESS. THEY INDICATED IT HAD FAILED IN MANY OTHER VEHICLES. WE WERE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBOR HOOD AT ABOUT 25MPH AND THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING AS IF THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL. LUCKILY, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND PARK. THE CAR WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE (WHICH I NOW KNOW). ABOUT 5 DIFFERENT ERROR LIGHTS WERE ON AS WELL AS THE GEAR LIGHTS FLASHING. PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, LET IT REST AND THEN PROCEEDED TO RESTART WITH THE SAME ENGINE ERROR. THE CAR WOULDN'T REVERSE OR GO OVER 2ND GEAR. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY IT HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AT MY LOCAL VW DEALER ON TIME AND IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. PRIOR TO THIS SPECIFIC ENGINE FAILURE, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEM WITH MY GLI, FROM INTERIOR, ELECTRICAL, TO THE TURBO. THE CAR DEVELOPED A RATTLE AROUND 80000 MILES, AFTER SEARCHES ON THE INTERNET I WAS SURE THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL (DMF)WAS FAILING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY CONFIRMED IT WAS THE DMF. THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND VOLKS REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING IF CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. OTHER COUNTRIES ARE ALREADY MAKING VOLKS RECALL THESES CARS AND REPLACE THE DMF. I OWN A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI DIESEL (BRM ENGINE CODE). THIS CAR HAS DIED ON ME 4 TIMES NOW, 3 THREE TIMES ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I WAS INFORMED BY NIELLO VOLKSWAGEN WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN TO BE SERVICED FOR 2 RECALLS THAT I HAD A MAJOR OIL LEAK. WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 45MPH AT 5:40PM ON 12/15/11 MY '06 JETTA TDI SUDDENLY STOPPED DRIVING. IT SOUNDED AS THOUGH THE CAR HAD SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL. THIS HAPPENED ON HWY 83 IN DELAFIELD. HWY 83 IS ONE OF THE BUSIEST HIGHWAYS IN WISCONSIN. WE WERE UNABLE TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC AND WERE STRANDED IN THE LEFT OF THE 2 LANES. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FLY WHEEL AND INFORMED HER TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO ,I TOOK MY JETTA TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN REGARD TO FRONT AIRBAGS RECALL. THE LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OFF. THEY REPAIRED IT, BUT AFTER A YEAR THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON. THE WIRING HARNESS THAT RUNS FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO THE DRIVES SIDE DOOR HAS CRACKING AND BROKEN WIRES. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATES IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY SUGGEST IT IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. WIRES WITH BROKEN INSULATION AFTER 6 YEARS IN A DOOR HARNESS THAT IS DESIGNED TO OPEN AND CLOSE MULTIPLE TIMES DAILY SEEMS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. ARE THERE OTHER WIRE ISSUES? IS THE WIRE (CAR BUILT IN MEXICO) AN ISSUE OVERALL?
I PURCHASED A 2006 VW JETTA IN LATE 2008, EARLY 2009. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW AND SAT IN THE SHOWROOM FOR TWO YEARS. AFTER OF DRIVING FOR 1 1/2 YEARS, THE TIRE SIDEWALLS BEGAN TO SEPARATE. CONTINENTAL MADE THE ADJUSTMENT AND I REPLACED THE TIRES THINKING THAT SITTING IN A SHOWROOM FOR THAT MUCH TIME, THEY PROBABLY DRY ROTTED. TODAY, I AM HAVING TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES AGAIN AFTER 13 MONTHS FOR THE SAME REASON, SIDEWALL SEPARATION. READING THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS, IT APPEARS THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE HERE FOR SIDEWALLS ON CONTINENTAL TIRES. THE SIZE IS 225/45R 17. THE TIRES ARE CONTIPRO CONTACT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT FAILED TO EXTEND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 60,000.
