CAR CAN SPUTTER ON FREEWAY AT TIMES AND CAN STALL OUT WHEN DECELERATING FROM FREEWAY CRUISING SPEED. FUEL LINES ARE EMPTY DESPITE HAVING REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND FILTER, AS WELL AS WIRING HARNESS.
THE VEHICLE HAS A LONG HISTORY OF THE THROTTLE BECOMING INOPERATIVE RESULTING IN NO-POWER (IDLE POWER STRICTLY SPEAKING) CONDITIONS. THAT CONDITION IS CLEARED WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED. RECENTLY THERE WAS AN INSTANCE OF UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION: INSTEAD OF NO POWER, FULL POWER WAS APPLIED BY THE ENGINE. AGAIN CYCLING THE CLUTCH CLEARED THE CONDITION. THE NO-POWER CASES APPEARED MORE LIKELY IN URBAN DRIVING AND SOON AFTER A TRANSMISSION SHIFT BUT DID OCCUR UNDER ALMOST ANY CONDITIONS. THE FULL-POWER CASE OCCURRED ONCE, CLIMBING A HILL AT ~2800' ALTITUDE. THE POWER FAIL OCCURRED AS EARLY AS 34K MILES, AND CONTINUED WITH VW'S KNOWLEDGE UNTIL ~72K MILES, WHEN VW OF AMERICA TECHNICIANS FINALLY DID SOMETHING TO END IT. THOSE SYMPTOMS STARTED RECURRING AT ~270K MILES. THE ACCELERATION INCIDENT OCCURRED AT ABOUT 275K MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE; IT WILL BE SENT TO A SALVAGE YARD IF THE NTSB IS NOT INTERESTED IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
AT APPROX 80-90K I STARTED HEARING A CLATTERING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE AND EXTRA NOISE WHEN IDLING. ALSO, THE CAR HAS A HARD TIME SHIFTING (AUTOMATIC TRANS). AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO A MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S THE DSG DMF COMING APART AND RATTLING. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FIND IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. IT STARTED HAPPENING SHORTLY AFTER MY CAR WENT OUT OF CPO WARRANTY, WHICH EXPIRED AT 74K. I DIDN'T REALLY PAY THAT MUCH ATTENTION TO IT UNTIL IT GOT WORSE. THIS IS A 06 TDI MKV WITH AUTO DSG, BRM ENGINE. ALSO EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTIES WITH SOOT IN FUEL FILTER, LIKELY DUE TO FAULTY SEAL IN FUEL INJECTORS UNDER CAM SHAFT. ONCE AGAIN, COMMON PROBLEM ACCORDING TO MECHANICS AND ONLINE FORUMS ON THIS MODEL. THERE'S A RECALL ON THE DMF FOR THIS MODEL IN AUSTRALIA, NEEDS TO HAVE ONE FOR US. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE BEGAN TO SMELL GASOLINE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT GASOLINE WAS LEAKING ONTO THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V621000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) BUT WAS INFORMED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING HOME AND SUDDENLY MY CAR STARTED JERKING AND MADE A "KNOCKING" SOUND, WITHOUT ANY WARNING (I.E. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT). WE WERE CLOSE TO HOME AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON; HOWEVER, IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MILES, THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED, STILL WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY INDICATION OF WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS, WHILE PARKED ON A SECURED PREMISE, I STARTED THE CAR UP AND IT HAD AN ERRATIC LOPING SOUND. I PROCEEDED TO CALL A NEARBY VOLKSWAGEN DEALER AND SPOKE TO TWO CERTIFIED VW MECHANICS, WHO FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATION BEFORE THE CAR STARTED TO ACT UP AND SAID TO BRING IT IN TO SWAP OUT THE ENGINE AT APPROX. $7500; THEY DISMISSED THE PROBLEM AS "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND IT LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM, WHICH I HAD CONFIRMED BY AN AUTO-MECHANIC AFTER TOWING THE CAR IN. HE TOLD ME THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS WARPED DUE TO THE CAM GOING OUT. OTHER 2006 VW JETTA TDI OWNERS HAVE COMMENTED ON THE SAME ISSUES, WHICH AT THIS POINT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS NOT "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR", BUT A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA DIESEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD METAL SHAVINGS INSIDE OF IT THAT WERE CLOGGING THE FUEL INJECTOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS, BUT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STALLING COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
2006 JETTA TDI 58,229 MILES TODAY / PURCHASED FROM 2ND OWNER AT 53K MILES 34MPG IN TOWN / 42.5MPG HIGHWAY WIFE DRIVEN WITH LIGHT FOOT. OIL CHANGE AND FUEL FILTER REPLACED AT 53K MILES BACKGROUND: CAR WAS PURCHASED EARLY DEC 2009, WITH IN 2 WEEKS IT WAS AT THE DEALER FOR A NON START ISSUE. CAR WAS GARAGED OVER A 3 DAY WEEKEND AND NOT DRIVEN AT ALL. MONDAY MY WIFE GOES TO START IT AND IT WILL NOT START, AFTER TELLING ME I TRY FOR 3 MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED AND IT FINALLY STARTS. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIND NO ISSUES, THEY BLAME COLD START AS THE CULPRIT. THIS IS A BS CALL AS THE CAR WAS AND IS ALWAYS GARAGED AT 50+ DEGREES F. ROUGHLY 3 WEEKS LATER THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENS AND THE CAR GOES BACK TO THE DEALER. TO NO AVAIL THEY STILL COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE NOR FIND A SOLUTION. THE NO START ISSUE/ HARD START ISSUE SEEMED TO PROGRESS FROM SITTING FOR 3 DAYS AND NOT STARTING TO RANDOMLY MULTIPLE TIMES A WEEK NOT STARTING. THEY STILL CANNOT FIND A SOLUTION. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THIS IS A FUEL ISSUE. ON TO TODAY'S ISSUE: FIRST NOTICED 3 WEEKS AGO WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A CAR ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH (AROUND 4K RPM), THE CAR DOWN SHIFTED AND STUTTERED RATHER THEN INCREASING SPEED. I THOUGHT IT WAS A 1 TIME ISSUE UNTIL I STARTED NOTICING IT MORE AND MORE. NOW IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AND MORE PRONOUNCED STARTING AT EVEN 35MPH/3400 RPM IN 3RD GEAR. FROM 10AM TUESDAY TO 5PM FRIDAY OUR JETTA WAS BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A STUTTER/POWER LOSS ISSUE. THEY DID REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER TODAY AS WELL AS TEST THE FUEL (WHICH TESTED FINE), THE EGR VALVE WAS CLEANED WITH A CARB CLEANER. THE SERVICE MANAGER DROVE THE CAR OFTEN AND HAS BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE POWER LOSS / STUTTER, HOWEVER THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY CALLED THE VW TECH LINE MULTIPLE TIMES AND STILL NO FIX ONCE AGAIN. CAR DIED SEVERAL TIMES TODAY. TURNING ONTO THE HIGHWAY THE CAR STUTTERED AND THEN .5 MILES LATER IT DIED AT 45MPH IN TRAFFIC. PULLED OVER AND CRANKED FOR 3 MINUTES. *TR
SUDDEN DECELERATION OR LOSS OF POWER MAINLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS BUT OCCASIONALLY IN TOWN. THIS LASTED FOR ONLY A FEW SECONDS AND THE CAR REGAINED POWER. THERE WERE SCARY SITUATIONS ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS BUT NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES OCCURRED. THIS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY OVER SEVERAL MONTHS BUT THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO EITHER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR IDENTIFY ANY COMPONENTS THAT WERE FAULTY. AFTER MUCH PERSISTENCE AND FRUSTRATION ON MY PART, THE DEALER EVENTUALLY IDENTIFIED A FAULTY 'TANDEM FUEL PUMP' AND A FAULTY COMPONENT OF THE TRANSMISSION (MECHATRON). BOTH COMPONENTS WERE PLACED ON FEBRUARY 17, 2010 AND I HAVE HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE THAT TIME. JETTA TDI. *TR
MY 2006 JETTA 2.5 HAS AN INTERMITTENT ACCELERATOR HESITATION. IT CAN OCCUR WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD OR HOT. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN IT IS ROLLING FREE AT NEAR 5 TO 10 MPH, AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED NOTHING HAPPENS FOR A SECOND OR TWO. THEN IT CATCHES AND GOES. *TR
AT 15F DEGREES OR LOWER TEMPERATURES THE VOLKSWAGEN DSG TRANSMISSION WILL IMPEDE THE DIESEL ENGINES ABILITY TO START, LEAVING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. VWAG AND VWOA HAS KNOWLEDGE OF THIS SYSTEM DEFECT PROVIDING NO SOLUTION. VWOA CONTINUES TO SELL THESE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES. *TR
FILLED UP MY 2006 JETTA TDI AND DIESEL FUEL CAME OUT ALL OVER THE CAR AND THE GROUND. THE FUEL FILLER DESIGN WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE THE LARGER DIAMETER TRUCK DIESEL NOZZLE, BUT THAT'S ALL THERE WAS AVAILABLE AT THE SERVICE STATION (AND AT MOST SERVICE STATIONS ALONG THE INTERSTATE). THE PREVIOUS GENERATION FUEL FILLER DID ACCOMMODATE THE LARGER DIAMETER DIESEL NOZZLES SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT VW WAS THINKING. VW NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THIS ASAP. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO SPILLED DIESEL FUEL. *JB
