WE OWN A 2007 JETTA WITH ABOUT 30K MILES ON IT. THE BRAKES AND ROTORS HAVE FAILED. THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING NOISE SINCE DAY ONE BUT RECENTLY WE LEARNED THEY ARE SHOT. VW CLAIMS THIS TO BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WE SAY IT'S BAD MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN AND SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THESE BRAKES. *TR
AT 10,759 MILES, HEARING A METAL SOUND FROM REAR OF THE CAR WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKES, WE TOOK OUR 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TO THE DEALER. UPON INSPECTION THEY FOUND THAT THE READ PADS WERE WORN DOWN TO THE METAL AT 3MM. THEY REPLACED THE READ PADS AND L/S ROTOR AND ADJUSTED THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE. THIS REPAIR WAS PERFORMED UNDER WARRANTY. AT 26,171 MILES THE REAR BRAKES WERE WORN DOWN AGAIN AND THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $378. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. REAR BRAKES SHOULD NOT NEED REPLACEMENT EVERY 10K TO 15K MILES. *TR
I HAVE ONLY 21,000 MILES ON MY CAR, AT APPROX. 19,000 MILES I NOTICED A SLIGHT SQUEAK TO MY REAR BRAKES OCCASIONALLY. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR INTO HAVE THEM CHECKED. VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, THEY CLAIM IT IS NORMAL FOR REAR BRAKES TO GO OUT WITHIN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS IS NOT NORMAL, NOR IS IT SAFE. BRAKES SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER, AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REPLACED THEM EVERY 18-20,000 MILES. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. VOLKSWAGEN IS SELLING POOR QUALITY VEHICLES AND THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO SHRUG IT OFF AS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO ADMIT THEIR FAULT IN THE DESIGN OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THEIR MOST POPULAR MODELS. I HAVE A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. I HAVE HEARD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR GTI AND RABBIT MODELS OF THE SAME YEAR OR LATER. *TR
NO PRECIPITATING EVENTS. WHILE DRIVING, ENGINE CUTS OUT FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY BATTERY LIGHT COMING ON, HAVE 30 SECONDS-60 SECONDS TO GET OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION. CAR DOES NOT RESTART. HAS HAPPENED 4X TOTAL SO FAR, TWICE WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY. DEALERSHIP HAS EACH TIME REPLACED FRIED FUSE TO FUEL PUMP RELAY. AFTER THE 3RD TIME THEY REPLACED THE MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE CENTRAL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (I WAS TOLD THIS MODULE HAD BEEN UPGRADED 9X BY VW SINCE MY 07 VEHICLE). THIS TIME THEY ARE REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP & SENDING ME HOME W/EXTRA FUSES & SHOWING ME HOW TO REPLACE THEM SO I AM NOT STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY (!) I DO NOT HAVE THE OLD PARTS FROM THEM. I HAVE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE TO WALK AWAY UNINJURED DUE TO QUICK REACTION & PLAIN LUCK EVEN IN RUSH HOUR. THIS IS A 2007 VW JETTA, WOLFSBURG EDITION PURCHASED NEW ON 2-8-07, MAINTENANCE FOLLOWED EXACT, FUEL TANK KEPT AT 1/2-FULL. PROBLEMS BEGAN @28,608K NOW AT 41,817K. *TR
PURCHASED NEW VEHICLE 07/21/07 AND ON 12/09/08 I HAD TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED ON MY NEW 2007 VW JETTA WITH LESS THAN 16,000 MILES ON IT! THIS IS MY 4TH VW AND I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE SO SOON BEFORE. MY PREVIOUS VW THAT I'VE BROUGHT TO THE SAME DEALER FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE. I FIND IT INAPPROPRIATE FOR VW TO SELL ME A VEHICLE WITH SUB STANDARD PARTS THAT REQUIRES A LOT OF MONEY TO REPLACE - WITH NO DISCLAIMER. I'VE COME TO EXPECT BETTER QUALITY FROM VW. WHICH WAS THE MAIN REASON AS TO WHY I PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE FROM VW AGAIN. TO ADD, I'LL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN EVERY 15,000 MILES OR SO. IT IS NOT A BREAKING HABIT AS MY PRIOR RECORDS WITH VW WILL SHOW THAT IS NOT THE CASE. WHILE CUSTOMER. *TR
AT APPROX 22K MILES MY REAR BRAKES BEGAN SQUEALING AND THEN GRINDING LOUDLY. WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW ROTORS AND PADS AT A COST OF APPROX $500. WAS TOLD BY INDEPENDENT SERVICE SHOP THAT THE BRAKES NOT ONLY WERE EXTREMELY WORN DOWN, BUT THE WEAR WAS FAIRLY UNEVEN AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKES WEARING OUT SO QUICKLY. IT IS ABSURD TO THINK THAT I WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY 12-18 MONTHS. *TR
I OWN A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLI WITH A 2.0T ENGINE AND A DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) TRANSMISSION. AT APPROXIMATELY 33,000 MILES (IN 12/2008), MY DSG TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN 40MPH ROAD INTO MY JOB. I LOST POWER AT ABOUT 20MPH WHILE TURNING LEFT IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC BUT WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST INTO MY WORKS SIDE ROADS TO PULL OVER. THE LOSS OF POWER WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THE FLASHING OF ALL TRANSMISSION GEAR LIGHTS (PRDNS), WHICH IS TYPICAL OF ALL DSG TRANSMISSION FAILURES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. VW COMPLETELY REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY AND NEVER TOLD ME EXACTLY WHICH PART OF MY DSG ACTUALLY FAILED. THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY SIMPLY REMOVE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND SEND IT BACK TO VW. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR A SMALL NUMBER OF 08-09 DSG EQUIPPED CARS, WHICH WAS IMPLEMENTED BECAUSE A FAULTY TEMPERATURE SENSOR CAN CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL AND ALL POWER WOULD BE LOST, RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THIS POWER LOSS IS WHAT I EXPERIENCED, AND ALTHOUGH MY PROBLEM WAS LIKELY UNRELATED TO THE CURRENT RECALL RATIONALE, WAS DANGEROUS TO ME NONETHELESS. I VISIT A VW ENTHUSIAST WEBSITE WHERE DSG FAILURES ON ALL MODEL YEARS ARE MORE COMMONPLACE THAN SHOULD BE ACCEPTED. IF THIS HIGH FAILURE TRANSMISSION RESULTS IN A DANGEROUS CONDITION, VW SHOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM BY FIXING ALL DSG MODELS WITH UPDATED COMPONENTS FOR ALL KNOWN COMMONLY FAILING DSG COMPONENTS. AT THE VERY LEAST, VW SHOULD ALSO EXTEND DSG WARRANTIES TO 100,000 MILES TO COVER REPAIRS TO THIS COSTLY TRANSMISSION. *TR
2007 JETTA WOLFSBURG REAR BRAKES MADE FROM A SOFTER MATERIAL CAUSING THEM TO WEAR AT A MUCH FASTER RATE THAN THE FRONT(APPROX. EVERY 16K MILES). INFO IS STRAIGHT FROM VW USA. WHY WOULD THEY PUT THE SENSORS ON ONLY THE FRONT IF THEY KNOW THE REAR WILL WEAR FASTER AND NO INFO IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. UNREASONABLE REPAIR ON A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR. FRONT BRAKES STILL LOOK NEW WHILE BACK BRAKES ARE WORN AND CUT INTO THE ROTOR. VW USA SAYS THIS WAS A FIX IN RESPONSE TO CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF REAR BRAKE NOISE. SOFTER MATERIAL CAUSES MORE BRAKE DUST AND BRAKES SQUEAL ALL THE TIME. HAVING TO REPLACE BRAKES MUCH MORE OFTEN IS NOT AN EFFICIENT FIX. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON EDMUNDS.COM. I HAVE A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBERG EDITION WITH 29,000 MILES ON IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. MY REAR BRAKES WERE MAKING AN AWFUL SQUEALING NOISE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AS WELL AS FOR MY BRAKES. I WAS TOLD THAT MY REAR BRAKES HAD 1MM AND 2MM LEFT ON THEM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS WAS PART OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE CAR IS NOT EVEN 2 YEARS OLD AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE $425 TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES. I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS BEFORE AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. THIS IS A HUGE FLAW THAT VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO OWN UP TO. I HAVE TALKED TO MY DEALER, DRITO BROTHERS, AND CUSTOMER RELATIONS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY, VOLKSWAGEN DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND CONTINUE TO MAKE AN INFERIOR CAR. I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED WITH A POTENTIAL FOR RECALL. I HAVE READ MANY ONLINE FORUMS WITH MANY PEOPLE RUNNING INTO THIS SAME ISSUE. I HAD AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AND THEY FEEL THERE IS A MAJOR FLAW IN THE CAR AS THE WEAR ON THE REAR BRAKES IS UNEVEN WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES ARE NOT SHOWING ANY WEAR AT ALL. THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEED REPLACEMENT AT 22,000 MILES. WHILE THE FRONT BRAKES ARE PERFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, THE CONTACT HEARD A SUDDEN LOUD NOISE. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 144,000.
TOOK MY VW 2007 JETTA IN FOR A 20K OIL CHANGE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES. I ARGUED WITH THE SERVICE DEPT. AND DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE BRAKES ONLY TO FIND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE JETTA. MY PREVIOUS CAR WAS A SPYDER ECLIPSE; A MUCH HEAVIER CAR BUT HAD THE ORIGINAL BRAKES AT 78K ! THIS IS THE LAST VW I WILL BUY. OWNED A CABRIO IN 1999 AND WON MY LEMON LAW CASE FOR THE DEFECTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 VW JETTA. AT 27,000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED AND ROTORS TURNED. BRAKES WERE RUBBING METAL TO METAL. I THINK IT IS A PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR PROBLEM. DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS FAULTY PARTS OR WHAT. DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE REAR PADS WEAR OUT WITH THAT LITTLE OF MILEAGE. I AM 55YRS. OLD AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT WITH ANY CAR. I HOPE IT DOES NOT CAUSE ANYONE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AT 21,272, AND NOW LESS THAN 10,000 MILES AFTER I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT AND NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT VW REFUSES TO PAY FOR IT AND FIX IT. I HAVE HAD MANY CARS AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE PADS, LET ALONE ROTORS ALSO, BEFORE 40,000 MILES. MY DRIVING STYLE HAS NOT CHANGED, IF ANYTHING I'VE MELLOWED WITH AGE. THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES THAT BOTHER ME BESIDES THE VERY SHORT LIFE SPAN OF THE REAR BRAKES ON MY JETTA. THE BRAKE WEAR LIGHT THAT LETS YOU KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH YOUR BRAKES ONLY WORKS FOR THE FRONT BRAKES. ALSO, I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT ALTHOUGH THE ROTORS ARE NOT DAMAGED THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AND CANNOT BE TURNED ON THE JETTA BECAUSE IT WILL CAUSE PREMATURE PAD WEAR! SO I HAVE DEFECTIVE BRAKES THAT WEAR OUT PREMATURELY, NOT WAY OF KNOWING THAT THEY'RE WEARING OUT UNTIL YOU HEAR THE PROBLEM (WHICH IS USUALLY TOO LATE), AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE THE ROTORS EVERYTIME YOU CHANGE THE PADS! *TR
AT 29,000 MILES I STARTED HEARING A GRINDING NOISE IN MY REAR BRAKES. CALLED DEALERSHIP ADVISING OF NOISE AND WAS GIVEN AN APPT FOR 2 WEEKS LATER. AT APPT WAS ADVISED THAT REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS NEEDED REPLACED. VW ADVISED ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE REAR BRAKES TO GO BEFORE THE FRONT BRAKES. NO REPAIR WORK DONE, CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY GARAGE. *TR
SEATBELTS. BOTH OF MY FRONT SEATBELTS STOPPED RETRACTING, THEN LOCKED UP AND COULD NOT BE PULLED OUT IN ORDER TO FASTEN. DEALER REPAIRED, BUT THIS MAY BE AN ONGOING ISSUE. *TR
2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA HAD A RATTLING NOISE IN THE WINDSHIELD. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE NOISE GREW IN INTENSITY AND ANNOYANCE. HE TRIED TO FIND THE LOCATION OF THE NOISE AND LIGHTLY TAPPED THE WINDSHIELD AND IT CRACKED. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER CLAIMED A ROCK MAY HAVE HIT THE WINDSHIELD, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER STATED THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATING HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CRACKED WINDSHIELD. THE DEALER FIXED THE AIR BAG PROBLEM, BUT THEY DID NOT FIX THE WINDSHIELD. *JB
PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY FROM THE FACTORY CAUSING PREMATURE BRAKE PAD WEAR. TOO SOON TO BE CAUGHT DURING SERVICE INTERVALS THEREBY MAY HAVE CAUSED BRAKE FAILURE LEADING TO AN INCIDENT AND/OR CAUSED DAMAGE. *TR
LARGE BULGES ON THE SIDEWALL OF TIRES. *TR
2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SUFFERED A TIRE BLOW OUT. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TIRES SIDEWALL RIPPED OPEN A 2-INCH HOLE. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JUMP ONTO THE SHOULDER AND THE VEHICLE ALMOST ROLLED DUE TO THIS FAILURE. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED WHY GETTING THE OIL CHANGED, HE NOTICED THE FRONT TIRES HAD LARGE BULGES ON THE SIDEWALL. I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA IN DECEMBER 06 FROM TREND MOTORS ROCKAWAY NJ. THE WEEK OF FEB 18TH 2008, MY BRAKES FELT MUSHY. I DO NOT PUT MANY MILES ON MY CAR BECAUSE I WORK CLOSE TO HOME (4 MILES ONE WAY) THE CAR HAS 17,000 MILES, I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER 02/20/08 AND LET THE DEALER KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH MY BRAKES. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE BACK BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED (ROTORS & PADS). I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE BACK BRAKES WORE OUT BEFORE THE FRONT? I NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD BE $380.00 AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY DEFECTS ON THE BACK BRAKES BECAUSE I HAVE READ THERE WAS. THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW OF ANY DEFECTS AND THEY GAVE ME A NUMBER TO CALL (CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO SEE THEY COULD ASSIST ME). I VOICED MY COMPLAINT WITH CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND GAVE THE SAME INFORMATION. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO LET THEM TALK TO THE DEALER AND THE LATEST THAT I WOULD HEAR FROM THEM WAS THE NEXT DAY. I JUST CAN?T BELIEVE THAT THE BACK BRAKES WOULD WEAR BEFORE THE FRONTS? I AM A SAFE CAUTIOUS DRIVER AND I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS? THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. ACCORDING TO VW SERVICE MEN THEY FOUND A FAULTY SPIRAL SPRING VIA GFF TEST PLAN R&I DRIVER AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL, COLUMN TRIM AND STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONICS CONTROL MODULE R&R SPIRAL SPRING AND PERFORMED BASIC SETTINGS DURING ROAD TEST AND CKL'D OK. 2) 08/06/ 2007- AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR IS ON. ACCORDING TO VW SERVICEMEN THEY FOUND A FAULT FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG IGNITER RESISTANCE TOO HIGH AFTER UNPLUGGING THE COMPONENT AND REPLACING IT WITHIN A KNOWN GOOD ONE FOUND THAT THE VALUE IN THE MEASURE VALUE BLOCKS DIDN'T CHANGE AND CHECKING THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL MOUDLECONNECTORS TO SEE IF THEY WERE DAMAGED THEY FIGURED IT COULD ONLY BE THE SPIRAL SPRING THAT IS FAULTY. ORDERED SPIRAL SPRING. 3)11/08/ 2007- PERFORMED RECALL Q-8 / INSPECT HEADLIGHTS 4) 01/08/2008- BREAK IS MAKING NOISE.. ACCORDING TO VW SERVICE MEN THEY CHECKED FOR NOISE FROM BRAKES, FOUND REAR BRAKE PADS WERE METAL TO METAL. REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. FOUND E-BRAKES CABLES ADJUSTED TOO TIGHT ADJUSTED CABLES. FOUND REAR CALIPERS DRAGGING. REPLACED BAD CALIPERS AND PERFORMED TEST DRIVE. 4) 01/19/ 2008- WHEN I TURNED ON MY AIRCONDITIONER ON LAST SATURDAY, 01/19/ 2008 A SMOKED IS COMING OUT THROUGH MY RITE REAR TIRE AND IT SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING. I CALLED THE VW SERVICE THEY SAID I CAN COME IN ON MONDAY ANYTIME TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I DID COME IN YESTERDAY MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 2008 TO HAVE IT CHECKED ONE OF THE SERVICE MEN TEST DRIVE THE CAR WITH ME BUT THEN THERE IS NO SMOKE COMING OUT ANYMORE SO WHAT HE ADVISED ME TO DO IS JUST TAKE MY CAR WITH ME AGAIN AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THEN COME BACK. HE JUST LOOK AROUND MY CAR AND THE HOOD AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. MY CONCERNS IS I DON'T THINK AM SAFE DRIVING MY CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING HAPPEN NEXT, AND I THINK MY CAR WILL BE CONSIDERED AS A LEMON CAR. *TR
AT 20,000 MILES MY LEASED 2007 VW JETTA'S REAR BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING AND GRINDING. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR PADS AND ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ($350!). I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR WITH BRAKES PROBLEMS THIS EARLY, SPECIALLY A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR. WALK-IN AT DEALER SERVICE, IN AND OUT 1 HOUR, THEY SAID DIAGNOSTIC SHOWS KNOCK SENSOR WAS AT FAULT AND CLEANED AND REPLACED WITH ORIGINAL KNOCK SENSOR. 200 MILES LATER, SAME ISSUE - NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AT 3000 RPM, FOLLOWED BY SOLID YELLOW CEL. DEALER SAYS OK TO DRIVE ON, COME IN NEXT APT. 5 DAYS LATER. CAR IN AND OUT SAME DAY, THEY CLEANED BOTH KNOCK SENSORS AND REPLACED WITH ORIGINALS AGAIN. 300 MILES LATER SAME PROBLEM - NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, CEL, ETC. THIS TIME DEALER REPLACED BOTH KOCK SENSORS WITH NEW ONES. THE SAME ISSUE REPEATS ANOTHER 2 TIMES. DEALER HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH VW TECH LINE SINCE EPISODE 3 BECAUSE THEY TELL ME IT IS A "WARRANTY ISSUE". THIS SAME SINGLE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN TOTAL SPANNING 1,000 MILES IN 2 MONTHS. REAR BRAKES I FEEL THEIR IS A DEFECT. HAVE REPLACED THEM ONCE AT ABOUT UNDER 13 THOUSAND MILES AND AGAIN NOW OVER 13 THOUSAND MILES THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS NOT REASONABLE FOR REAR BRAKES TO WEAR DOWN BEFORE THE FRONT. NOW VOLKSWAGEN IS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND. I WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE CRASH AND THE DRIVER AIR BAG, DASH AIRBAG AND PASSENGER AIR BAG ALL DEPLOYED. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH AT MYCARSTATS.COM, I LEARNED THAT OTHER '07 JETTA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE COMPLAINTS FILED INDICATE POTENTIAL FAULTY REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON IN THE VEHICLE UNTIL ENGINE IS STOPPED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BACK IN JULY OF 2007. THEY'VE RESET THE CODES, REPLACED THE SEATBELT BUCKLE AND RESET THE CONNECTORS THAT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AIRBAGS AND NOTHING HAS WORKED. I'VE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL DEALER (WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR) FOUR TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT'S STILL NOT FIXED. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH MY 2007 VW JETTA 2.5 BUT THE MOST RECENT AND DISTURBING WAS A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE REAR BRAKES DUE TO AN IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED PARKING BRAKE CABLE. THE FAULTY E-BRAKE CAUSED THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS TO SEIZE, ATE THROUGH THE PADS, AND DAMAGED THE ROTORS. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER I WAS INFORMED THIS WAS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY MODEL. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I CAME ACROSS DOZENS OF OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WHILE MINE DID NOT RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT NOT HAVING THE USE OF THE REAR BRAKES WITH NO WAY OF TELLING IS DEFINITELY A CAUSE FOR CONCERN. PLUS WITH THE BRAKES SEIZED AND DRAGGING MY FUEL ECONOMY HAS SUFFERED GREATLY. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND HAD THE REAR CALIPERS, E-BRAKE, PADS, AND ROTORS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD TO PAY AS MUCH AS $600.00 TO THERE LOCAL DEALERS WHO CALLED IT A WEAR ITEM. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND FORCE VW TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM AND RECALL THE VEHICLES BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA IN JANUARY 07 FROM GOSSETT GERMANTON IN MEMPHIS TN. THE WEEK OF JULY 18TH, I STARTED HEARING MY BRAKES SQUEALING. I SAID TO MYSELF IT COULD NOT BE MY BRAKES. AT 17,800 MILES, MY BRAKES START RUBBING AND DOWN TO THE METAL. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON 7/27/07 AND LET THE DEALER KNOW THAT THIS CAR NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS AND IT IS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD. I WAS INFORMED BY KYLE, VW REPRESENTATIVE THAT THEY WOULD LOOK AT THE CAR AND WOULD LET ME KNOW IF THERE WAS A DEFECT ON THE BRAKES. SEVERAL HOURS LATER I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO DEFECTS AND THAT THE COST OF REPAIR WOULD BE $380. I WAS TAKEN OFF MY FEET. I WAS ASKED TO CALL CUSTOMER RELATIONS TO SEE THEY COULD ASSIST ME. I VOICED MY COMPLAINT WITH CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND GAVE THE SAME INFORMATION. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO LET THEM TALK TO THE DEALER AND THE LATEST THAT I WOULD HEAR FROM THEM WAS MONDAY. IT IS NOW MONDAY AND I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM OR VOLKSWAGEN. THERE IS NO WAY THAT I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRAKE PADS FOR A 6 MONTH OLD CAR. DEFAULT CLUTCH FAILURE, I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS FORUM FOR A FEW DAYS, EVER SINCE THE 06 TDI JETTA CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR , OH YES ANOTHER CLUTCH PEDAL TO THE FLOOR!. WE WERE TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY, SAME OLD THING CUSTOMER ABUSE, $2700.00 LATER. REPLACED CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE, RELEASE BEARING, AND FLYWHEEL. I WAS SHOCKED. WE HAVE HAD MANY TRANSMISSION IN THE FAMILY WITH EVERYONE DRIVING AND NEVER A PROBLEM. THIS WAS OUR FIRST VOLKSWAGEN AND PROBABLY OUR LAST UNLESS VOLKSWAGEN DOES THE PROPER THING AND REIMBURSES US. AS FAR AS THE SHOPS WERE CONCERNED THERE WAS NO IMPROPER WEAR, NO BLUING, AND AS FAR AS THEY COULD TELL IT WAS CLUTCH FAILURE FROM DEFECTIVE PARTS. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, EARLY MODEL CLUTCHES HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF THE MARKET AND REPLACED WITH AN NEWER STYLE. THIS IS A FACT, EVEN THOUGH THE PRESSURE PLATE AND CLUTCH ONLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED VOLKSWAGEN HAD TO REPLACE THE FLYWHEEL AT A COST OF $1700.00. THE DEALERSHIP LIED TO ME FROM THE BEGINNING SAYING THAT THE NEW CLUTCH CAME IN A KIT ,AND THE FLYWHEEL WAS APART OF THAT KIT. AFTER TALKING TO A PARTS REPRESENTATIVE THEY WERE ALL SOLD SEPARATELY! SO WE ARE NOT DONE WITH THIS FIGHT. VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE WAS NO HELP. BASICALLY, THE DEALER COULD MAKE THE CALL IF IT SHOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT. WE ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE BETTER AFTER MARKET CLUTCHES AVAILABLE. THE COST FOR AN OUTSIDE SHOP WAS QUOTED AT $1,0000.00 TO REPLACE PARTS AND LABOR. 2007 JETTA 2.5L REAR BRAKE FAILURE IN JUNE 2007 RESULTED IN ACCIDENT WHERE I WAS UNABLE TO STOP AND VEHICLE WAS HIT DRIVER'S SIDE. REPORTED TO VW AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL FAILURE. BRAKES CONTINUE TO FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY (GRINDING, SQUEALING, SEIZING) DECEMBER 2008 REAR BRAKES REPLACED (30,000KMS) AT MY EXPENSE AS VW HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS AN ISSUE. AUGUST 2007 CLUTCH FAILS AND VEHICLE IS TAKEN TO VW FOR REPAIRS. ADVISED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR (18,000KMS) AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HAD CLUTCH INSPECTED BY A CLUTCH MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISES PARTS FAILED AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER INSTALLATION. VW ISSUES REFUND AFTER LEGAL ACTION IS PURSUED. DRIVING DOWN ROAD AT NORMAL SPEEDS(55-65) AN ANNOYING CLUNKING CONSISTENTLY GOING ON UNDER FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF CAR.
