I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON MY CAR 14 MONTHS AGO, AND IMMEDIATELY GOT IT FIXED. THE RECALL WAS FOR MY STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING- THIS AFFECTS MY HORN, AIRBAGS, AND HANDS FREE PHONE OPTION. I GOT IT FIXED IN JULY 2017. 14 MONTHS LATER (TODAY) IT BROKE AGAIN. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS FAULT ON VOLKSWAGEN'S PART. BECAUSE ITS AFTER 12 MONTHS, THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE BROKEN PART AND FIX IT. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE PART THAT COST $300.00. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I AM AFRAID MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK, LET ALONE MY HORN ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WORK. VOLKSWAGEN SHOULD HONOR THIS ISSUE, AND MAKE AN EXCEPTION, SINCE IT IS A TWO MONTHS DIFFERENCE.
AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING FAILURE AFTER PREVIOUS RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. ENCOUNTERED STEERING WHEEL RESISTANCE TO CORNERING AND HEARD CRUNCHING NOISE AS AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS INCLUDING HORN WERE LOST. VOLKSWAGEN DEALER SERVICE STATED OVER PHONE THAT THIS WAS UNRELATED TO PREVIOUS RECALL AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. VOLKSWAGEN READING (2746 BERNVILLEE RD, LEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA 19533, (610) 777-6500) STATED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 181-245-460. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
LAST MONTH, SEPTEMBER 2018, WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON SURFACE STREETS, I STARTED TO HEAR A CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM MY STEERING WHEEL WHENEVER I TURNED THE WHEEL. MY AIRBAG LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE, I WAS WORRIED THAT MY STEERING WOULD FAIL FROM ALL THE NOISE I WAS HEARING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. ONCE I GOT HOME, I RESEARCHED ONLINE WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE AND I ALSO VERIFIED WITH THE VW DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS A BROKEN CLOCK SPRING COIL AND MY AIRBAG AND ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED AND I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WITHOUT THE MAIN SAFETY FEATURE WHICH IS THE AIRBAG. I WENT TO THE VENTURA VW DEALERSHIP ON SEPTEMBER 20,2018 TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING COIL. THEY KEPT MY CAR OVERNIGHT AND I HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR FROM THEM. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, VW KNEW THAT THE CLOCK SPRING COIL COULD BREAK AND THEREFORE THEY ISSUED THE VW RECALL # 15V483000 IN 8/14/2015, TO PLACE A PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING. I HAD THIS RECALL ALREADY DONE TO MY CAR PRIOR TO THIS ISSUE HAPPENING. THEREFORE IT SEEMS THAT VW'S RECALL FIX DID NOT PREVENT THE CLOCK SPRING FROM BREAKING IN MY CAR. THE VENTURA VW DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER ATTEMPTED TO HAVE VW REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS ISSUE BUT THEY WOULD NOT. IT SEEMS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY VW SINCE THEY KNEW THIS IS A PROBLEM AND ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT WITH A RECALL IN 2015 WHICH FAILED. MY CAR'S CLOCK SPRING BROKE DESPITE HAVING THE VW RECALL PROTECTIVE COVER IN PLACE AND IT WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR.
TAKATA RECALL. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO VW IN 3/2016 FOR THE RECALL. AT THAT TIME NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL WERE WORKING AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ON. I WAS ADVISED THEY PUT A COVER OVER THE CLOCK SPRING AND ALSO REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING. FAST FORWARD TO 2018 AND THERES AN ISSUE WITH THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE DRIVER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS ON AGAON, STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS DONT WORKING AND TO ADD TO THAT NOW A CLICKING SOUND WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. VVW SAYS IM OUTSIDE WARRANTY ON RECALLED PARTS AND I'M THE ONE THAT WILL BE OUT OF POCKET ON THE $700 REPAIR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ELECTRONIC POWER CONTROL (EPC) INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TEDDY VOLKSWAGEN (718-920-1400, LOCATED AT 3743 BOSTON RD, BRONX, NY 10466) WHERE THE EPC INDICATOR WAS RESET, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS HEADED BACK TO THE DEALER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND, WHEN RESTARTED, THE EPC INDICATOR TURNED OFF. AS A RESULT, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE MATTER WOULD BE REFERRED TO THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR. THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR CALLED AND STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE UNLESS THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,500.
MY CAR HAS 59900 MILES, KEY GETS STUCK IN IGNITION WHEN TURNING OFF THE ENGINE, I CAN NOT TURN OFF MY CAR NOW. I SEARCHED ONLINE, THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE TO VW CARS, MANY VW OWNERS COMPLAIN THE KEY IS STUCK IN IGNITION AND CAN NOT TURN OFF ENGINE, THEY HAD TO BRING THE CAR TO DEALER TO REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF A 2018 HONDA ACCORD. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE DAMAGES HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,298.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE RESULTING IN AIRBAG, STEERING WHEEL CONTROL, AND HORN MALFUNCTION. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG ISSUE WITH OTHER VW OWNERS BY DOING A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH.
STEERING WHEEL, UPON PARKING, MADE A STRANGE NOISE AND THEN WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A BREAK OF A PLASTIC CLIP. NOISE CONTINUED AS I TURNED WHEEL THE OTHER WAY. ERROR ON DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG APPEARED ON DISPLAY AS WELL AIR BAG ICON APPEARING ON CONSOLE. IMMEDIATELY CALLED DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF CAR SAFE TO DRIVE AND WAS TOLD TO BRING CAR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WAS ONLY 2 MILES AWAY SO I DID AND THEY WERE NICE ENOUGH TO LOOK AT CAR RIGHT THEN. TURNED OUT TO BE CLOCKSPRING WHICH HAD BEEN REPLACED IN FEBRUARY OF 2016, AN INITIAL RECALL OF CLOCK SPRING. SO NOW THE RECALL WORKAROUND NEEDS A WORKAROUND.
WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE TAKATA RECALL, SERVICE DEPT. TOLD US THE CLOCKSPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER BEING CHARGED MORE THAN $400, WE LOOKED INTO IT TO DISCOVER THAT IT HAD BEEN REPLACED UNDER A DIFFERENT RECALL IN 2016. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, WE FOUND THAT MANY OTHER VW OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. WE'D LIKE TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST OF CUSTOMERS WHO DIDN'T RECEIVE ADEQUATE REPAIRS UNDER SAFETY RECALL #69L2, AND TO FIND OUT WHAT THE STATUS IS ON THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER.
THE EPC LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING AND EVERYTIME THE CAR IS TAKEN TO THE VW DEALERSHIP THE REPLACE PART BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CAR LOOSES POWER AND IT STALS. SOMETIMES IT WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND THAT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS.
ON 01/10/18 I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SOME RECALLS. ON 05/22/18, I HEARD NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND ALL OF THE STEERING-MOUNTED CONTROLS FAILED. THIS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND CAN HEAR THE NOISES MOST WHEN TURNING. BASED ON MY RESEARCH AND TALK WITH OTHER VW DRIVERS, IT APPEARS TO BE THE CLOCK SPRING (WHICH HAD A RECALL ON IT, AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED). I UNDERSTAND THERE IS NO ACTIVE RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, DOES THIS NOT INDICATE THE RECALL PERFORMED FAILED? THAT BEING SAID, I DONT FEEL SAFE DRIVING AROUND IN A VEHICLE THAT SAYS MY AIRBAG WONT DEPLOY IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT.
CLOCK SPRING FAILED AFTER BEING "FIXED" BY PREVIOUS RECALL. IN EARLY 2016 I HAD THE RECALL ON MY CLOCK SPRING. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER WHERE THEY PUT ON THE COVER THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE CLOCK SPRING ISSUE. TWO DAYS AGO MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND TODAY I NOTICED MY HORN AND THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK. VW WILL NOT FIX THE PART EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T ACTUALLY REPLACED DURING THE PREVIOUS RECALL.
THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL IN FEBRUARY 2017 BUT FAILED AGAIN IN MAY OF 2018. FROM WHAT I AM SEEING ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON RECALL FAILURE WITH THIS VEHICLE. VW CUSTOMER CARE AND ITS WARRANTY DEPT WILL COVER THE COST OF A REPLACEMENT PART BUT NOT LABOR.
MY VEHCILE WAS RECALLED FOR A DEFECTIVE CLOCKSPRING. THE REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING IF THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND INSTALL A SHIELD IF THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS OFF. MY VEHCILE DID NOT HAVE A LIGHT SO A SHIELD WAS INSTALLED OVER THE DEFECTIVE (BUT NOT YET FAILED) CLOCKSPRING. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE CLOCKSPRING HAS FAILED AND VOLKSWAGEN REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING PER THE RECALL. VW STATED THAT ONCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, EITHER WAY, THAT IS IT COMPLETED AND THEY ARE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. THE RECALL DOES NOT STATE THAT ONCE A SHIELD IS INSTALLED THAT YOU CAN NEVER AGAIN BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. I THINK THIS PRACTICE OF "SHIELDING" AGAINST THE FUTURE FAILURE OF A DEFECTIVE PART IS NOT SAFE OR FAIR. I THINK THAT A RECALL THAT HAS MORE THAN ONE REMEDY SHOULD REMAIN OPEN TO THE OTHER REMEDY IF THOSE CONDITIONS ARE MET.
CLOCKSPRING FAILED 6 MONTHS AFTER I GOT IT FIXED UNDER RECALL. LITTLE NOISE COMING FROM STEERING WHEEL, AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, HORN AND ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS DO NOT WORK.
CLOCK SPRING WAS CHANGED IN 2016 AND TAKATA RECALL AIRBAG WAS CHANGED IN MARCH. AFTER THE AIRBAG WAS REPLACED I HEARD CLICKING NOISES WHEN TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AND NOW MY AIRBAG ERROR LIGHT IS ON. MY HORN DOESNT WORK AND MY BUTTONS TO CONTROL RADIO DO NOT WORK. I BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THE TAKATA RECALL WAS DONE AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH OPEN BROKEN CLOCK SPRING AND POWER STEERING GEAR BROKEN. THEY DO NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONISBILITY FOR THE CLOCK SPRING SINCE IT WAS CHANGED IN 2016. I HAVE MADE A CASE WITH VOLKSWAGEN AGAINST THIS PARTICULAR DEALERSHIP.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON DASH WHEN DRIVING. IT APPEARS TO ONLY COME ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT OVER 50 MPH. I HAVE HAD CURRENT TAKATA RECALL WARRANTY WORK COMPLETED ALREADY. VOLKSWAGEN SAID THIS IS A SEPARATE ISSUE AND WOULD NOT COVER UNDER RECALL WARRANTY. SPECIFICALLY, THEY SAID THE AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WHILE THIS WARNING LIGHT IS ON IF INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT.
STEERING WHEELING CLOCK SPRING HAS FAILED FOLLOWING RECALL REPAIR, VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO COVER, QUOTED ME $1,500.00
TAKATA INFLATORS WERE CHANGED DUE TO RECALL IN JAN 2018. IN APRIL 2018 I HEARD A STRANGE NOISE & THEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THEN I REALIZED THAT ONLY INFO SHOWING ON MY PANEL WAS THE PHONE HOOKUP, ALONG WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT. I CHECKED THE HORN & THAT DID NOT WORK EITHER. AFTER CHECKING FUSES WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP & MADE AN APPT TO HAVE IT CHECKED. WE ARE TOLD IT IS THE CLOCKSPRING THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST IS OVER $500. WE CALLED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER SERVICE & THEY STAYED WE HAD THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED IN 2016 UNDER A RECALL. HOWEVER WE HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF THIS BEING DONE. THIS NOISE & THEN THE CLICKING & OTHER ISSUES CONNECTED TO THE CLOCK SPRING HAPPENED AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT IN A SHOPPING AREA. THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS BEING THAT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF & WHEN NEEDED. ALSO I WAS ALMOST HIT BY A VEHICLE THAT DECIDED TO BACKUP WITHOUT LOOKING & I COULDN'T USE MY HORN TO WARN THE OTHER DRIVER. THANK GOD HE REALIZED WHAT HE WAS DOING. AS FOR THE DEALERSHIP SAYING THEY REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING IN MAY OF 2016, MY QUESTION IS WHY WAS THAT REPLACED THEN & NOT THE AIRBAGS? ALSO, BEING THERE WAS RECALL ON THE AIRBAG & IT WAS BEING DONE, WHY DIDN'T THEY REDO THE CLOCK SPRING. I LOVE THE PASSAT BUT I DON'T WANT TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF SHODDY WORKMANSHIP! I NOTICED A LOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CLOCK SPRING & WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY YOU ARE NOT TAKING CARE OF THIS ISSUE? I FEEL THAT VOLKSWAGEN IS HAVING ITS CUSTOMERS PAY FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL LABOR BEING THAT THE CLOCK SPRING GOES BAD SHORTLY AFTER REPAIRS ARE DONE TO THE RECALLED AIRBAG.
FUELL PUMP CONTROL COMPUTER MODULE LOST POWER. VEHICLE STALLED WHILE TURNING IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC! IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS ETC. CAUSING A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS POSSIBILITY OF DEATH SITUATION. VW HAS HAD THIS ITEM RECALLED FOR A LONG, LONG TIME! VW STILL HAS NO FIIX TO DATE!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SCRAPING NOISE. ALSO, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN FAILED TO SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NIELLO VOLKSWAGEN (2701 ARDEN WAY, SACRAMENTO, CA 95825) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIRS WERE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED; THEREFORE, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,789. *JS *TT
The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V148000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable, and was on national backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that the part was on a national back order. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
GOT A RECALL ON CLOCK SPRING IN 2016 HAD IT REPAIRED. WENT OUT AND LIGHT IS NOW ON. TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE CLOCK SPRING FOR OVER $500. I WAS TOLD IT HAPPENS, BUT I JUST SAW THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION. DEALER TOLD ME THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE AFTER RECALL SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. 2-8-2018 - UPON STARTING TO DRIVE WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL I HEARD A SCRAPING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING AIR BAG NOT WORKING, ALL CONTROL SWITCHES ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND HORN WAS NOT WORKING. I HAD THE RECALL FOR THE PROTECTIVE COVER OVER THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING INSTALLED AT THE VW DEALER IN MARCH 2016. VW DEALER AND THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE TELL ME THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CLOCK SPRING IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED OVER 12 MONTHS AGO. IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT THE COVER RECALL FIX WAS NOT THE CORRECT FIX AND POSSIBLY CAUSED THE PROBLEM I NOW HAVE WITH THE CAR. SINCE VW KNEW THERE WAS A RE-DESIGN OF THE CLOCK SPRING TO CORRECT A DESIGN FLAW THE COVER RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN TO AUTOMATICALLY REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING WITH THE IMPROVED DESIGN. I'M BEING TOLD I'LL HAVE TO PAY $500 TO MAKE THE REPAIR WHICH I FIND VERY UNFAIR IN LIGHT OF THE RE-DESIGN FOR THE PART OR THE POSSIBILITY THE RECALL REPAIR WAS NOT CORRECT AND MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBELM NOW.
ON MY 2012 TDI WHEN THE WEATHER GETS COLD ~ BELOW 10 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT THE ENGINE FEELS LIKE IT IS MISFIRING. IT USUALLY STARTS FINE, BUT IT STUMBLES/MISFIRED FOR THE FIRST MILE OR SO. THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO GET UP TO SPEED, NOR WILL IT SHIFT INTO THE NEXT GEAR, THE ENGINE WILL REV TO 3000 RPM AND MORE WHEN COLD, WHICH IS VERY BAD FOR THE ENGINE. I WILL MANUALLY SHIFT INTO THE NEXT GEAR AND THEN IT CHUGS AND MISFIRES AND STRUGGLES TO GET UP TO SPEED.
HAD A CLOCKSPRING FAILURE IN 2012 PASSAT, CAUSING AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, AND FAILURE OF ALL STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. HAVE NOTED RECALL FOR THIS ITEM FOR CARS PRODUCED JUST PRIOR TO MINE BASED ON VIN SEQUENCE. VW APPARENTLY DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE IN PRODUCTION BECAUSE I HAVE HAD THE EXACT ISSUE COVERED IN THE RECALL, YET MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. COST WAS OVER $600 FOR REPAIR. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED BASED ON THESE FAILURES AND WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON REPEAT FAILURES AFTER THE RECALL WAS DONE ON MANY CARS. IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS THAT THEIR INITIAL FIX IS NOT A TRUE FIX FOR THE ISSUE.
IN 2016 MY CLOCK SPRING BROKE AND WAS REPLACED AS PART OF THE 2015 CLOCK SPRING RECALL. IN JANUARY 2018 MY CLOCK SPRING WENT OUT AGAIN. I CURRENTLY HAVE AN AIRBAG LIGHT ON, THE HORN IS NOT WORKING, AND ALL CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK. THE CLOCK SPRING THAT WAS REPLACED AS PART OF THE RECALL HAS FAILED AND VW REFUSES TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT. THANK YOU
DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. DOOR LOCK LATCH MECHANISM FAILED. CANNOT DRIVE CAR IF DOOR WON'T STAY LATCHED. INDEPENDENT SHOP REPLACED MECHANISM. BASED UPON INTERNET SEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT DOOR LATCH FAILED SEEMS COMMON WHICH WAS A SURPRISE.
IN MARCH OF 2016 OUR CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED DUE TO A NHTSA MANDATED RECALL. IN OCTOBER OF 2017 OUR AIRBAG WAS REPLACED IN THE TAKATA RECALL. IN JANUARY OF 2018 THE HORN STARTED MALFUNCTIONING WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND AT TIMES WHILE GOING STRAIGHT. THIS OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN. FUSE WAS PULLED AND THEN REPLACED BY DEALER WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE. COULDN'T DUPLICATE ISSUE. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED END OF APRIL. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY INFORMED US THE CLOCK SPRING WAS BROKEN. IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD BE $741 TO FIX. WE DECLINED. WE FEEL THIS SHOULD BE COVERED SINCE A RECALLED REPLACEMENT PART HAS FAILED AGAIN IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS.
CAR BEGAN VIBRATING AND FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY.
I WAS PART OF A RECALL TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING ON THE STEERING WHEEL. I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM BEFORE, NOW ABOUT THREE MONTH AFTER WE HAD IT DONE THE STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS DO NOT WORK AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. ALSO ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE PREVIOUS PROBLEMS STARTED I NOTICED THE AIR IS NOT BLOWING AS MUCH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS ALSO BLOWING COLD WHEN WE ARE CALLING FOR HEAT.
WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I HEARD A LOUD POP COME FROM THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, AN ALARM CAME UP FOR "AIRBAG ERROR". ALSO, ALL OTHER FUNCTIONALITY ON MY STEERING WHEEL WAS DISABLED, INCLUDING THE BLUETOOTH ACCESS, RADIO BUTTONS, ETC. I CONTACTED MY VW DEALERSHIP (BOUCHER VW IN RACINE, WI) AND THEY STATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING AND THAT THE AIR BAG IS NOT FUNCTIONAL IF THIS ALARM IS ACTIVE. I ASKED IF THIS WAS COVERED AS A PART OF THE RECALL (I BELIEVE THE RECALL NUMBER IS 15V-483) AND THEY STATED IT WAS NOT AND THAT THE ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $550. I ASKED WHY THIS WAS NOT COVERED AS A PART OF THE RECALL BUT WAS NOT PROVIDED AN EXPLANATION. I WILL FOLLOW UP WITH THIS QUESTION WHEN I TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE HORN STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS THE BUTTONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 RECALLS AND THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY CLOCK SPRING. ONE OF THE RECALLS THEY ARE DOING REPLACES THE CLOCK SPRING COVER. THEY QUOTED ME A NEW CLOCK SPRING FOR ~$500. THEY ARE REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING COVER FOR A CLOCK SPRING THAT IS DEFECTIVE.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2012 PASSAT ON 8/4/15 FOR THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING, WHICH PROVIDES POWER TO THE AIRBAG. THE RECALLED PART WAS REPLACED ON OUR VEHICLE IN JAN. 2016, IT WENT OUT AGAIN IN DEC. 2017 AND NOW THE MANUFACTURER SAYS IT IS NOT COVERED AS THE PART IS ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 1 YEAR. REALLY?? YOU REPLACED ONE JUNK PART WITH ANOTHER ONE AND NOW WON'T STAND BEHIND IT. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG DOESN'T DEPLOY WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THE CAR. REALLY SAD WAY OF DOING BUSINESS, THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE AGAIN AFTER RECALL WAS DONE
CLOCK SPRING BROKE AGAIN ON 2012 PASSAT, VW REFUSES TO FIX STATING IT WAS OUT OF THE SPARE PART WARRANTY WHEN THE FIRST RECALL WAS COMPLETED. AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS DO NOT WORK, AND FRONT DRIVER AIRBAG PROBABLY WON'T GO IF I AM IN A CRASH. VW IS PUTTING MY LIFE AT RISK BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO FOOT THE BILL FOR A BAD PART IN THEIR VEHICLES.
TWICE THE CLOCK SPRING HAS BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IDENTIFIED UNDER THE 2015 CLOCK SPRING RECALL. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW, FIRST REPLACEMENT AT APPROX 60,000 MILES IN DECEMBER 2014, SECOND REPLACEMENT AT 119,000 MILES TODAY. PROSPECT (333 W RAND RD, MT PROSPECT, IL 60056 (847) 392-6300) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FRACTURED CLOCK SPRING THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER ORDERED THE PARTS WHILE AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V078000 (AIR BAGS), BUT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL OR WARRANTY FOR THE CLOCK SPRING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,300.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAD THE AIRBAG REPAIR DONE UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THE REPAIR FAILED CAUSING THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE AND ALL OF THE DEVICE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO STOP WORKING, SO I BROUGHT IT TO THE VW DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND THE REPAIR COST ME OVER $500. I DID CONTACT VW DIRECTLY AS DID THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT DID THE REPAIR...WE WERE BOTH TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED.

I GOT A LETTER FROM VOLKSWAGON STATING THAT A RECALL WAS GOING TO BE MADE ON MY CAR BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP COULD JUST STOP WORKING ,OR MY CAR COULD JUST STOP IN MOTION WHILE I'M DRIVING OR JUST NOT START ALL TOGETHER. I GOT THIS LETTER BACK IN OCTOBER 2017 AND HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM SINCE.

WHEN I DROVE THE CAR AGAIN ON 09/16/17 THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, SEAT BELT PRETENSIOR & LOW TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. GOT APPOINTMENT ON 09/22/17 TO HAVE THEIR WORK INSPECTED. I ALSO ASKED FOR AUTHORIZATION TO REPAIR THE TAKATA AIRBAG. ON 09/22/17 GOSSETT REFUSED TO TOUCH THE CAR UNLESS I PAID THEM $140.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. FOLLOWING THE DIAGNOSTIC I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ANOTHER $140.00 TO CLEAN DIRT FROM THE SHORT TO THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR. NO PROBLEMS EXISTED PRIOR TO THE 09/13/ VISIT TO INFLATE THE TIRES. TOTAL PAID WAS $340.41. FOLLOWING THIS VISIT THE RE-SET IS INOPERABLE, THE LOW TIRE INDICATOR, SEAT BELT, AIRBAG AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON AND FLASH IN AND OUT DURING DRIVING. I PHONED VW CUSTOMER CARE, VERIFIED MY ADDRESS AND REQUESTED A LETTER FROM THEM AFTER RENEWING MY REGISTRATION BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER TO THIS DAY. AUGUST 25, 2017 THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. SEPTEMBER 13, 2017 THE LOW TIRE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GOSSETT VW, HAD THE TIRES INFLATED AND WHEN I DROVE THE VEHICLE TWO DAYS LATER THE ABS/TRACTION CONTROL/TIRE PRESSURE/ AND SEATBELT LIGHTS WERE CONTINUALLY FLASHING. I SPOKE TO AN ADVOCATE VIA CHAT ON VW'S SEB SITE. SHE AUTHORIZED THE AIRBAG REPAIR ON 09/22/2017. I PAID APPROXIMATELY $341.00 TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE WARNING LIGHTS BUT TO DATE, 09/27/2017 THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINT AND THE FILE WAS CLOSED ON 09/25/2017. I PHONED CUSTOMER CARE EARLIER TODAY, WEDNESDAY, 09/27/2017 AND REOPENED THE CASE. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 38,415 MILES ON IT. THE REPAIR REPORT ACCORDING TO SERVICE AGENT J.O. CLAIMED THEY FOUND A SHORT TO THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT SENSOR CAUSING THE ABS LIGHT, TIRE LIGHT, AND TRACTION LIGHT. CORRECTION: REPAIRED SHORT AND CLEANED RIGHT REAR SPEED SENSOR AND BEARING. ON 09/22, THE BOTTOM DRIVER TAKATA AIRBAG WAS PERFORMED. NOT ONLY ARE THE SAME LIGHTS ALARMING EACH TIME I TURN ON THE VEHICLE, BUT THIS MORNING THE ESP ERROR LIGHT FLASHED. VW CUSTOMER CARE WAS ADVISED AND REOPENED THE COMPLAINT. FOLLOWING THE SERVICE VISIT I DISCOVERED A BROKEN PART WITH VW # 8E0.881.348.E ON THE RIGHT FLOOR MAT OF THE CAR. THIS IS ALARMING. I WAS ADVISED AN ADVOCATE FROM VW CORPORATE SHOULD BE CALLING ME IN RESPONSE TO THIS HORRIFIC ORDEAL. THESE INCIDENCES OCCURRED 2 WEEKS AFTER THE CERTIFIED PRE- OWNED WARRANTY EXPIRED. NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE BEFORE THIS. I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN WHO IS EXTREMELY ALARMED WITH THIS MATTER.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE CITY STREETS, I HEARD A POP LIKE A FUSE WENT OUT. I NOTICED MY HORN DID NOT WORK, THE FUNCTIONS ON THE STEERING WHEEL ARE NOT OPERABLE AND MY AIR LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED PRIOR ON 9/16/2014 WHICH THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED.
TAKATA RECALL. 2017 HAD AIRBAG RECALL COMPLETED, NO ISSUES PRIOR TO RECALL. AFTER RECALL, HORN SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, AND CAN'T BE SHUT OFF. DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO FIX, IDENTIFIES AS NEW PROBLEM. CHANGED CLOCK SPRING TO FIX HORN ISSUE FOR $500, HORN NOW INTERMITTENTLY SOUNDS WHILE DRIVING, STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS, AND CRUISE CONTROLS NO LONGER WORK.
