THE HEATER CORE IN MY 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT TDI HAS FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED FOUR TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 2 YEARS. THERE IS/WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY RELATED TO THE HEATER CORE FAILURE BUT THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A RECALL DESPITE AN OBVIOUS DEFECT WITH THE HEATER CORES. FAILURE 1, 11/28/2016- REPORTED AS INSUFFICIENT HEAT, PRIMARILY PASSENGER SIDE - WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 2, 06/30/2017- IDENTIFIED BY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALERT- WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 3, 0/7/10/2017- IDENTIFIED BY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALERT, WARRANTY COVERED FAILURE 4, 11/28/2017- REPORTED AS INSUFFICIENT HEAT- PRIMARILY ON PASSENGER SIDE- ORIGINALLY REPORTED ON 10/26/2018- VW DECLINED TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. WITHOUT A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING HEATER CORE, THE WINDSHIELD DEFROSTER WILL NOT HAVE HEAT. IN THIS SITUATION, THE DRIVER WILL HAVE DIFFICULTY MAINTAINING A CLEAR WINDSHIELD, WHICH WILL CREATE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE LACK OF HEAT IN THE VEHICLE CAN ALSO BE UNSAFE IN SOME CLIMATES.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. CLICKING IN STEERING WHEEL WHILE TURNING CAR, AIR BAG ERROR LIGHT CAME ON AND NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WORK.
IN MID-OCTOBER 2018, I BEGAN EXPERIENCING SOME ISSUES WITH THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY CAR. MY CONTROLS ON MY STEERING WHEEL WERE COMPLETE OFF AND THE HORN WAS NOT WORKING. THEN SUDDENLY, THE AIRBAG SYSTEM ICON CAME ON AND NONE OF MY STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS WORKED. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER AND LET THEM KNOW THE ISSUE. THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND CONFIRMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THIS WAS DUE TO THE 'CLOCKSPRING' GIVING OUT AND THE AIRBAG RESISTANCE BEING TOO HIGH. GIVEN THAT THIS COULD NOT BE A PART OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR FOR A VEHICLE IN MY EYES, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE IS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION WITH VW FOR 2010-2014 AIR BAG CLOCK SPRING FAILURES DUE TO DEBRIS GETTING INTO THAT AREA. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THIS INFORMATION AND THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND TO TAKE IT UP WITH VW CORPORATE. I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T MY DOING AND THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THEREFORE, I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT FOR AN INVESTIGATION, RECOUPMENT, AND TIME SPENT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG.
TOOK MY CAR IN BECAUSE I HAD NO HORN, NO AIR BAGS, AND THE STEERING WHEEL SOUNDED 'FUNNY'. I HAD A LITTLE OVER 39,000 WHEN THIS ALL HAPPENED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS FOR THE 2014 PASSATS, BUT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHY. CLEARLY, MY CAR WAS INCLUDED IN THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES!! IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE.
MY STEERING WHEEL WAS AFFECTED, NO HORN, LOSS OF AIR BAGS, LOCKED TRUNK. WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CLOCK SPRING PROBLEM (PREVIOUSLY REPORTED). THESE PROBLEMS SEEMED TO APPEAR RANDOMLY AND NOT ALL AT ONCE. IS UNDER YOUR FORCED RECALL, BUT WAS ALLOWED TO EXCLUDE CERTAIN VEHICLES??? HAD TO FIX IT FOR AROUND $500. NOT PREVIOUSLY REPORTED--ON THE WAY HOME--I NO LONGER HAD A CRUISE CONTROL. VW CHARGED ME $143.50 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT AND TELL ME IT WOULD COST $720.97 TO REPLACE IT. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE AIR BAG. ALSO,LAST YEAR MY CAR STARTED SPONTANEOUSLY LOCKING AND RELOCKTING MY CAR WHILE DRIVING.. I TOOK IT TO VW. THEY SAID IT NEEDED REPLACING (WITHOUT DIAGNOSIS). THEY COULDN'T WORK ME IN SO I LEFT. THE PROBLEM JUST DISAPPEARED ???
I OWN A 2014 VW PASSAT. ALL OF THE FUNCTIONS ON MY THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DEAD AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE ISSUE WAS FIRST DISCOVERED. I HAD JUST STARTED THE CAR. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING. THE REPLACEMENT COST IS $637 AND THE CLOSEST DEALER IS 45 MILES AWAY. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE AIR BAG, HORN AND OTHER STEERING WHEEL FEATURES DO NOT WORK. AFTER RESEARCHING I'VE COME TO REALIZE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES EFFECTED BY THIS AND NO RECALL.
ALL OF THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL HAVE STOPPED WORKING AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. THIS IS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND MOVING. VEHICLE HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE.
WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE TO THE DEALERSHIP A MONTH AGO. IT WAS A LITTLE LOUD WHICH WAS EVIDENT. THE DEALERS MECHANIC SAID THE CAR WAS FINE. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON (STEADY NOT BLINKING). WE TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TIMING TENSIONER (APPARENTLY A KNOWN VEHICLE ISSUE ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC), AND THAT IT HAD DAMAGED THE ENGINE TO THE POINT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT HAS A 1.8T, AND I AM CURIOUS EXACTLY HOW PREVALENT THIS PROBLEM IS.
AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING BROKE AGAIN AFTER VOLKWAGEN REPLACED IT. NOW GETTING CHARGED A SECOND TIME FOR THE CLOCKSPRING THAT A VOLKWAGEN DEALERSHIP REPLACED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. IT HAS ONLY BEEN 25,000 MILES SINCE WE PAID THE $500 TO GET IT REPLACED THE FIRST TIME, SINCE MY VIN NUMBER WAS SKIPPED IN THE RECALL. ALL I WAS DOING TO CAUSE THE CLOCKSPRING TO BREAK WAS TURNING INTO MY DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE MATTER AND FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED ON NOVEMBER 21, 2013 AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NORTHTOWN VOLKSWAGEN (1135 MILLERSPORT HIGHWAY, AMHERST, NY 14226, (888) 685-3064) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS) AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 181168832. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
TERRIBLE SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM BRAKES. HAD THE ISSUE CHECKED OUT BY A DEALER. BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS ARE FINE. NO ISSUE WITH BRAKES OTHER THAN THE AWFUL NOISE.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING RECALL NOTICES FOR MY 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT FOR THE PAST YEAR YEAR. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN MARCH OF 2018, BROUGHT THE CAR IN SO THEY COULD FIX THE RECALL. AFTER TAKING THE DAY OFF, AND WAITING FOR THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE THE CORRECT PART TO FIX IT, AND THEY COULD NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIR. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED AS SOON AS THEY RECEIVED THE PART. LAST MONTH, I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL AND WAS TOLD THEY STILL DID NOT HAVE THE PART. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN, THEY PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH ANOTHER DEALER, I CONTACTED THAT DEALER. THEY ALSO DID NOT HAVE THE PART. AGAIN I WAS TOLD, WE WILL CONTACT YOU WHEN WE HAVE THE PART. THAT WAS OVER A MONTH AGO. YESTERDAY, I RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL NOTICE. HOW DO GET MY RECALL FIXED IF THE DEALERSHIPS DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS? DO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE CAR IMPLODES? PLEASE HELP!
AIRBAG COVER IS SEPARATING FROM THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE HORN RANDOMLY GOES OFF. CONSULTED WITH LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE AIRBAG COULD GO OFF AT ANY TIME. VOLKSWAGEN STATES THAT BECAUSE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN TAKATA RECALL THAT THEY WILL NOT CONSIDER ANY ACTION. VEHICLE HORN HAS ACTIVATED BOTH WHILE STATIONARY AND WHILE VEHICLE WAS ON ROADWAY.
WOLFSBURG EDITION. IN FEB 2018 AT 40,000 MILES THE PASSENGER SEATBELT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REAR DOOR LATCH ALSO FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. NOW AT JUNE 29, 2018 AT 46,000 MILES THE DRIVER SIDE SEATBELT HAS FAILED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE AIRBAG RECALL WAS COMPLETED AT 40,000 MILES ALSO. SAFETY EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO LAST AND THESE SEATBELTS HAVE ALREADY FAILED THROUGHOUT THE CAR.
CLOCKSPRING WENT BAD, NO AIRBAGS OR HORN. I WAS DRIVING WHILE THIS HAPPENED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WITHIN MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START AND STALLED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AND HAD THE ALTERNATOR ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE DEALER (CAPITAL VOLKSWAGEN, 3963 W TENNESSEE ST, TALLAHASSEE, FL 32304, (850) 692-5609) REPLACED THE WIRING AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED TWICE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
ON MAY 31, 2018, I BOUGHT A VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT E.S. 2014 AT INWOOD MOTORS, INC. DOS ID # 447825, LOCATED AT 153 SHERIDAN BLVD, INWOOD NY 11096. THE VEHICLE WAS FINANCED THRU THE LENDER NEW CITY FUNDING, LOCATED AT 146 S LIBERTY DR. # 11B, STONY POINT, NY 10980 FOR THE AMOUNT OF $8,000.00 DOLLARS. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER 40 MILES PER HOURS, IT WARNED ME OF SOME MECHANICAL PROBLEM THRU THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD (YELLOW LIGHT ECP), FRONT BRAKE BAND WORN, ABNORMAL SOUND IN FRONT OF VEHICLE WHEN TURNING TO RIGHT AND TO LEFT. I IMMEDIATELY INFORMED THE PERSON IN CHARGE OF THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS ISSUES NAMED KASI, HE TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT, THAT I HAD 1 MONTH GUARANTEE THAT HE WOULD TAKE CARE ABOUT IT. I HAVE LEFT THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AT THE DEALERSHIP TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, BUT HE NEVER DID IT. THE DEALERSHIP WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MECHANIC SHOP TIKAL'S AUTO REPAIR, LOCATED AT 153C SHERIDAN BLVD, INWOOD NY 11096, (516) 371-9582. THE FIRST TIME I LEFT THE VEHICLE WAS ON JUNE 13, 2018, AND TWO DAYS LATER, HE NOTIFIED ME ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD PROBLEM, AND IT WAS NECESSARY TO ORDER A NEW ONE TO REPLACE IT. HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR WITH ME, HE WOULD CALL ME WHEN HE HAD THE PART IN HIS POSSESSION. AFTER THAT, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, NEVER REPAIR THE BRAKES, NOR THE SOUND THAT I INFORMED HIM ABOUT BEFORE. HE TOLD ME TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE AGAIN, AFTER THREE DAYS LATER, HE SAID IT WAS THE SOLENOID, AND IT WAS NECESSARY TO ORDER A NEW ONE TO REPLACE IT THE OLD ONE. HE TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR WITH ME, HE WOULD CALL ME ONCE HIS HAD THE PART IN HIS POSSESSION. HE CALLED ME ON JULY 23, 2018, TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, BUT UNTIL NOW, THE CAR HASN'T BEEN REPAIR IT. IT'S BEEN A MONTH AND TWO WEEKS THAT I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM, AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED IN IT'S ENTIRELY.
THE ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING THING SINCE I PURCHASED IT IT IS NOW PAID FOR EVEN UNDER WARRANTY IT WAS MISDIAGNOSED THE BRAKING SYSTEM PULSATES AND I WAS TOLD THAT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE THEY HAD JUST CHANGE THE BRAKES AND THEN NOW THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE IT TELLS ME THAT THE THERE'S A FEW THE STEERING WHEEL LIGHTS UP THE AIRBAG LIGHTS UP THE ROAD CONDITION LIGHTS UP AND THEN I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF A PULSATES WHEN I'M BREAKING AT 60 MILES AN HOUR OR 70 MILES AN HOUR. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AS WAS THERE ANY RECALLS AND THE ONLY RECALL WAS SOMETHING I HAD TO DO NOTHING WITH THE THE VEHICLE ISSUES THEY DO NOT SEEM VOLKSWAGEN DOES NOT SEEM TO FIND THESE ISSUES THAT I'M READING IN PREVIOUS MESSAGES AN ISSUE BUT IT'S OUR SAFETY SO I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT EVEN PURCHASING ANOTHER VOLKSWAGEN.
ENGINE QUITS WITHOUT WARNING. TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. TOO MANY REPORTS OF THIS ON INTERNET. VERY DANGEROUS! QUIT WHILE DRIVING ON MAJOR ROAD.
TAKATA RECALL- HAD THE RECALL FIXED. CLOCK SPRING IS BROKEN AGAIN- AIRBAG LIGHT IS BACK ON AND STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS ARE NO LONGER WORKING. VW SAYS "TOUGH LUCK" IT'S NOT COVERED A SECOND TIME EVEN THOUGH THIS FIX DIDN'T EVEN LAST A YEAR. CAR IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR A HOST OF OTHER ISSUES SURROUNDING THE EMISSIONS RECALL AND SENSORS THAT AREN'T WORKING YET AGAIN.
CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING WHEEL BROKE AND THE CAR'S HORN, AIR BAG, AND BUTTONS ON STEERING WHEEL NO LONGER WORK BECAUSE OF THIS. MADE A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE COMPLETELY BREAKING WHILE TRYING TO REVERSE IN PARKING LOT. VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT WAS CLOCK SPRING THAT WAS BROKEN AND IT WAS NOT COVERED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL.
THE CLOCKSPRING IN MY STEERING WHEEL HAS FAILED AND A WARNING MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND ALSO THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON. IN ADDITION, DUE TO THE CLOCKSPRING FAILURE THE STEERING WHEEL MOUNTING CONTROLS DO NOT WORK. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS AIRBAG SITUATION. I DID CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN GROUP OF AMERICA AND THE HAVE COMMUNICATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR PART OF A RECALL (CASE NUMBER 180447041). I DID LEARN THAT THERE WAS A SIMILAR RECALL FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL VEHICLE THAT I HAVE (RECALL # 15V-483), HOWEVER, MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE SERIAL NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED. ALL INDICATIONS SHOW THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND DEFECT AND I WOULD EXPECT THIS SHOULD BE FIXED DO TO THE HISTORY AND RISK OF THIS ISSUE WITH THE CLOCKSPRING/AIRBAG.
REGARDING RECALL NHTSA BULLETIN 14V182000 - MY 2014 VW PASSAT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES OUTLINED IN THE BULLETIN OUTLINE ABOVE HOWEVER, IT APPEARS MY VIN DOES NOT CORRESPOND WITH THE MANUFACTURES RECALL. I HAVE A O-RING THAT IS FAULTY AND HAS CREATED A LEAK BETWEEN THE OIL COOLER AND TRANSMISSION. BASED ON THE RECALL IT COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE REGARDING THE SEAL IS EXPANDED BEYOND THE MANUFACTURES CRITERIA AND SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO COVER ALL 2014 VW PASSAT. PLEASE NOTE THIS WAS LEAK WAS IDENTIFIED BY THE INDEPENDENT SERVICE STATION. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS WAS A REAR CRANK SEAL LEAK, NOT THE CASE.
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEEDS THERE IS A DELAY IN GAS PEDDLE RESPONSE TIME OF ALMOST 3 TO 5 SECONDS ESPECIALLY IF TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC, THE GAS PEDDLE DELAYS TO THE POINT THAT YOU ALMOST FEEL LIKE YOUR NOT GOING TO MAKE IT. IT CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT . I DRIVE DAILY FROM NJ TO NYC AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE BC OF THAT DELAY. I'VE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT IS BC OF DRIVE BY WIRE TECHNOLOGY AND TURBO SYSTEM THAT THIS IS ALMOST NORMAL. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS IN MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER FELT UNSAFE IN THEM. I NOW HOW TO SECOND GUESS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AND FEEL THAT IF MY KIDS WERE TO DRIVE THIS CAR THEY ARE NOT EXPERIENCED DRIVERS, IT WOULD BE A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO PUT A TEENAGER INTO.
TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER LEAKAGE DRIPPING FLUID WHERE IT MIGHT CONTACT A HOT SURFACE AND RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE. ALLEGEDLY ACCORDING TO VW THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN VEHICLES WITH MY VIN, BUT MY MECHANIC SAYS IT IS HAPPENING.
I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND UPON MAKING A NORMAL 80 DEGREE RIGHT TURN, I HEARD AN AUDIBLE POP IN THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER THAT, MY AIRBAG ERROR LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST FUNCTION IN MY HORN AND ALL STEERING WHEEL FACE CONTROLS (VEHICLE INFORMATION NAVIGATION FOR THE DASHBOARD, VOLUME AND RADIO CONTROLS, BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY, ETC.). AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND BEING TOLD IT WAS THE CLOCK SPRING, I BEGAN DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON CLOCK SPRING ISSUES IN VOLKSWAGEN PASSATS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2010 AND 2014 AND THAT THERE WAS EVEN A RECALL ISSUED (ALTHOUGH I NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ON A RECALL FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER). IF THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART THEN IT SHOULD BE VOLKSWAGEN'S RESPONSIBILITY, NOT THE OWNER.

2014 VW PASSAT CLOCKSPRING ISSUE: MY VW WAS UNDER RECALL FOR THE TAKATA AIRBAGS WHICH I HAD NOT TAKEN IN TO HAVE REPLACED YET. WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT I HEARD A CLICK OR POP FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. AT THAT POINT, I NOTICED MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THAT NONE OF THE CONTROLS ON MY STEERING COLUMN WERE WORKING. UPON SOME SEARCHING I DISCOVERED IT WAS LIKELY THE CLOCKSPRING AND TOOK IT FOR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD MANY OF THE 2014 PASSATS WERE UNDER RECALL BUT MINE WAS NOT. I ALSO CHECKED NHTSA FOR ISSUES AND NOTICED ABOUT 100 OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM PASSAT OWNERS THAT ALSO HAD TO HAVE CLOCKSPRING REPAIRED ON VEHICLES NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. I BELIEVE ALL THE VW PASSAT CLOCKSPRING ISSUES SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AS IT CLEARLY IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FOX VOLKSWAGEN OF ROCHESTER HILLS (773 S ROCHESTER RD, ROCHESTER HILLS, MI 48307, (248) 656-0400) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TAKATA RECALL, I VERIFIED THERE WAS A RECALL APRIL OF 2017 AND IMMEDIATELY I CALLED MY VW DEALER TO SCHEDULE THE MAINTENANCE. I WAS PUT ON A WAIT LIST. I CALLED BACK SEPTEMBER 2017 AND WAS ADVISED THAT I WAS 10TH DOWN ON THE LIST AND THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE PARTS. I CALLED BACK AGAIN 03/16/2018 AND WAS ADVISED I WAS STILL ON THE LIST AND THAT THEY JUST ORDERED PARTS, THERE WAS A 4 DAY WAIT TO GET THEM, AND THEN THEY WORK FROM THE TOP OF THE LIST DOWN. IT'S BEEN OVER 2 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AND I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE SERVICE. I DRIVE MY VEHICLE DAILY TO AND FROM WORK, SCHOOL, AND DAYCARE WITH MY CHILDREN. TO THIS DATE I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING MY AIRBAGS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. TONY VOLKSWAGEN (94-1299 KA UKA BLVD, WAIPAHU, HI 96797, (808) 680-7170) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON, HORN NO LONGER WORKS AND THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL DO NOT WORK. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL IT IS A FAILURE OF THE CLOCK SPRING. TOOK IT INTO DEALER FOR RECALL ON VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS OR INSTRUCTIONS YET TO FIX IT.
THE HORN, AIRBAG ON DRIVERS SIDE, AND BLUETOOTH. ALL THE COMPONENTS IN THE STEERING WHEEL STOPPED WORKING. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASHBOARD, AND THE REST STOPPED WORKING AFTER A FEW DAYS OF LIGHT CLICKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING. I HAD TO TAKE IT FOR REPAIR 3/13/18.
STARTING GETTING TIMING CODE ERRORS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN IS BAD AND WILL COST NEARLY $4000 TO REPLACE. LOOKED ONLINE AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURENCE WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS CAR. WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS. THEY SHOULD BE RECALLING THIS AND MAKING THE REPAIRS.
CLOCK SPRING BROKE IN THE CAR, 2014 MODEL WITH 53K MILES ON IT. WIFE WAS JUST DRIVING ONE DAY HEAR A SNAP AND NOTICED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON AND HORN AND OTHER BUTTON ON STEERING WHEEL WERE NOT WORKING.

CAR KEEPS RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF. LOSES POWER WHILE IDLING AND DIFFICULT TO START. WILL LOSE POWER AND CUT OFF ALSO WHILE DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT STAY ON OR COME ON.
TAKATA INFLATOR REPLACED, 2 MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, AND TURNING THE CORNER AT LOW SPEED, ON A CITY STREET, INTO MY SUBDIVISION AT APPROXIMATELY 3-5 MILES PER HOUR, DURING A SNOW STORM. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES, HEAR CRUNCHING SOUND COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, I HAVE NO HORN OR STEERING WHEEL CONTROL BUTTONS. I NOW HEAR THE SAME CRUNCHING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN EVERY TIME I TURN THE WHEEL. CALLED DEALER, ADVISED IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CLOCK SWITCH WHICH COMMONLY FAILS AND WOULD COST AROUND $900 TO REPAIR AND WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, SINCE I HAD 40K AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. I WAS ADVISED THAT MY AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT REPAIR.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE MATTER REGARDING TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER SYSTEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED BY VW OF AMERICA TO MY SATISFACTION AND NO FURTHER ACTION IS NECESSARY . THANK YOU VERY MUCH
IN AUGUST OF 2017, MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND MY HORN STOPPED WORKING. THERE WAS ALSO A CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO VOLKSWAGEN AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT OTHER 2014 PASSATS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, AND SO I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A NEW CLOCK SPRING. I BELIEVE THAT THE VOLKSWAGEN RECALL WAS NOT BROAD ENOUGH TO COVER ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED. I REPORTED THIS TO THE NHTSA AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. HOWEVER, ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, MY VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SECOND CLOCK SPRING HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BECAUSE THE PART WAS NEW, VOLKSWAGEN COVERED THE REPAIRS. I DID NOT REPORT THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE OF CLOCK SPRING FAILURE AT THE TIME. I AM REPORTING THE RE-OCCURRENCE OF THE CLOCK SPRING FAILURE NOW, AS I STILL HOPE THE INITIAL RECALL WILL BE EXPANDED AND THAT I WILL GET REFUNDED FROM REPLACING IT THE FIRST TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE DEALER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO AUTOFAIR VOLKSWAGEN OF NASHUA (717 NEW HAMPSHIRE #101A, MERIMACK, NH 03054). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE SYMPTOMS WERE SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V182000 (POWER TRAIN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,482.
I AM A DOD CIVILIAN POSTED OVERSEAS IN SOUTH KOREA. I TOOK MY VEHICLE INTO GET SERVICED AT THE VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE STATION IN SEONGNAM (AUTOPLATZ BUNDANG, SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA WITH A COPY OF MY RECALL AND I EVEN TRANSLATED WHAT NEEDED SERVICED. THEY EVEN HAD THE GUARANTEE TO SERVICE RECALL ADVERTISEMENT POSTED ON THEIR DESK. HOWEVER, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLACE MY TAKOTA AIR BAGS, DESPITE THE RECALL. THEY SAID THEY HAD ISSUES WITH IMPORTING THE AIRBAGS AND WERE UNABLE TO SERVICE MY VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. THEY TOLD ME CALL BACK IN MARCH AND CHECK BACK THEN TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY AIRBAGS THEN. HOWEVER, I AM DUE TO SHIP MY VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY AND WILL MOVE BACK TO THE US IN MARCH 2018. I COMPLAINED AND SAID THAT I WILL REPORT THEM AS A CERTIFIED VW SERVICE STATION THAT IS REFUSING TO SERVICE MY RECALL. THEY APOLOGIZED AND SAID SORRY THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLACE MY AIRBAGS AT THAT TIME AND I'D HAVE TO CALL BACK LATER. I ASKED IF I COULD SCHEDULE A TIME TO COME BACK TO DO IT THEN, ONCE THEY HAD AIRBAGS, AND THEY SAID NO. THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO KEEP CALLING TO CHECK.

TAKATA RECALL I RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT THE RECALL LAST YEAR AND CONTACTED THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP IN REDWOOD CITY (HTTP://WWW.BOARDWALKVOLKSWAGEN.COM) ON 12/11/17. THEY TOLD ME THEY'D PUT ME ON A WAITLIST FOR THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. I'VE CALLED EVERY WEEK SINCE THEN TO SEE IF THE PARTS HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED BUT IT'S BEEN OVER A MONTH NOW (1/15/18) AND THERE'S STILL NO UPDATES OR CONCRETE TIMELINE FOR FIXING THE ISSUE.
I WAS TURNING RIGHT AT A SPEED OF 30 WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP SOUND AND THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON AND ALL COMPONENTS ON STEERING WHEEL STOPPED WORKING. THE HORN DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I BROUGHT CAR TO VW DEALER THE SAME DAY AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID I NEED A NEW CLOCKSPRING. I HAVE HEARD MANY PASSATS HAVE THIS ISSUE BUT MY CARS VIN WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD. NOW I HAVE A CAR WITH A BROKEN CLOCKSPRING. AMONGST MANY OTHER VW OWNERS. PLEASE HELP US

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD COME ON. THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN SOMETHING HEAVY IS ON THE SEAT. WHILE NEEDING TO HONK THE HORN ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE SOMEONE WAS MERGING ON TO THE LANE WHERE I WAS DRIVING, THE HORN WOULD NOT WORK. I LATER DISCOVERED THE RADIO CONTROL ON THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT WORK EITHER.
