WON'T SHIFT GEARS...... NUMEROUS TIME HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OVER SIDE TO SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART. SOMETIME IT WORKS SOMETIMES IT WON'T .
OUR ROUTAN HAS, YET AGAIN, LEFT ME STRANDED. I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS WITH TWO OF MY CHILDREN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT FOR ME OR, IT WOULD APPEAR FROM RESEARCH I'VE DONE, FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL. OUR MECHANIC HAS RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT IS UNRELIABLE AND LEAVES ME STRANDED, TWICE LATE AT NIGHT, SEVERAL TIMES, FORTUNATELY, IN FRONT OF MY OWN HOME AND THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED AND DID NOT STOP. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-822-8987 AND STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TO REPAIR THE WIRING ON THE DOOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN 2013. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES LEAVING US STRANDED. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. OUR MECHANIC HAS RUN MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS TO NO AVAIL, THEY REPLACED THE STARTER AND WE CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE IGNITION FAILURE. AT TIMES, THE CAR WILL START AND NOT GO INTO GEAR. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET IT INTO GEAR BY TURNING IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, ASSUMING IT WILL TURN BACK ON AGAIN. THERE IS DANGER IN BEING STRANDED FAR FROM HOME WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
ENGINE WILL NOT START. HAPPENS ON OCCASION BUT HAPPENED ENOUGH THAT I HAD TWO STARTERS INSTALLED AS WELL AS A BATTERY. WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE? CAN TURN THE KEY AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I CAN POSSIBLY SIT THERE AND TURN THE IGNITION 10+ TIMES AND STILL NOTHING. THOUGHT IT COULD BE A BAD SPOT IN THE NEW STARTER?? CLEANED BATTERY POSTS OFTEN AND NOW HAVE TREATED THE CONNECTIONS. WOULD LIKE NOT TO RECEIVE ANOTHER CALL FROM LOVELY WIFE THAT THE VAN WOULD NOT START. HAS TO BE SOMETHING WITH A CIRCUIT STAYING OPEN OR SOMETHING. SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO NOT KNOWING IF YOUR CAR IS GOING TO START WHEN YOU ARRIVE TO A DESTINATION. ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 2+ YEARS AND VAN HAS 100K MILES LAST INSTANCE OF ISSUE: 23 JUNE 2017
THE TIPM MODULE WENT OUT, CAUSING ALL INSTRUMENTS TO GO TO ZERO, ALL INDICATORS TO LIGHT UP, THE WARNING TONE SOUNDED, THE WIPERS STARTED OF THEIR OWN ACCORD, AND OTHER CRAZINESS RELATED TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT THE TIME; PARKING, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND BACK ON, ADJUSTING SPEED -- NOTHING MADE A DIFFERENCE. SINCE VOLKSWAGEN ROUTANS ARE JUST REBADGED CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRIES, THE TIPM ISSUE IS JUST AS MUCH OF A PROBLEM ON ROUTANS AS IT WAS ON DODGE, CHRYSLER, AND JEEP VEHICLES.
AS WE ARE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY CUTS OFF AND WILL NOT LET YOU DRIVE - THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND YOUR FORCED INTO TURNING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF THEM BACK ON AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE IN TRAFFIC WHICH NEARLY CAUSED A COLLISION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT HAD NOT YET BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON I35, THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION ACTED LIKE IT SLIPPED INTO 2ND GEAR AND THE TACK WENT TO 5000RPM. I TRIED TO JUST SLOW DOWN AND GET OFF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON WHEN I GOT TO A PARKING LOT. I THEN STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND IT APPEARED TO BE ALRIGHT. WITHIN A FEW DAYS IT DID IT A COUPLE TIMES MORE, THIS TIME TURNING ON THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM IN THE WEEK THEY HAD IT. PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ABOUT 10 TO 15 MILES AWAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND IT HAS BEEN THERE FOR TWO WEEKS. THEY TOLD ME AN ENGINEER FROM CORPORATE CAME TO CHECK IT OUT AND DURING THAT TIME THEY HAD ANOTHER CAR - SAME YEAR, SAME STYLE, EVEN SAME COLOR COME INTO THE SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM ON BOTH OF THE CARS. THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS GOING TO COST SOMEWHERE AROUND $5000.00 +/- TO GET IT FIXED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I AM HOPING THAT SOMETHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS STORIES ON THE INTERNET WITH PEOPLE IN VOLKSWAGENS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. CANNOT SEE WHY THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY EVEN ADMITTED THAT THEY HAD SEEN THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS POSTED ON THE INTERNET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHILE THE CONTACT'S NIECE WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, IT EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,273.
THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 85800 MILES AND WHEN DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 75 TO 80 MILES, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND MAY CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT. WHEN DRIVING IN THE CITY STREET, THE VEHICLE DOES THE SAME THING. IT LOSES POWER

THE VEHICLES STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, BRAKES STOP WORKING....VERY DANGEROUS - 2015 IGNITION SWITCH RECALL (WIN MODULE) DID NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER KNOWS THIS, VW KNOWS THIS - COMMON PROBLEM IS 2009-2010 MODELS - THESE ARE FAMILY VEHICLES - SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED SOON BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE ENTERED INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR CAUGHT FIRE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A MECHANIC EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON STREET OR HIGHWAY OR STOPPED. USUALLY AROUND 20-40MPH CAR STALLS. BRAKES LOCK UP/STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP/NO CONTROL OF CAR AT ALL. ALL LIGHTS INDICATE CAR IS ON, ONE BELL GOES OFF PRIOR AND ANTI-SKID LIGHT COMES ON. BY THEN PANIC CANNOT CONTROL CAR! PUT CAR IN PARK AFTER STOPPED AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS WARMED UP, IT LOST POWER. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS NOT WARMED UP, THE VEHICLE COULD ONLY BE OPERATED FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOCK TORQUE CONVERTER BETWEEN THE VALVE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER WAS SHAKEN UP AND WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND TOWED TO A TOW YARD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
THE CAR WON'T START INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY IT JUST CLICKS. THE STARTER IS NOT ENGAGED OR THE FLYWHEEL DOESN'T TURN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SAID IT WAS FAULTY TIPM MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. GOOGLE TIPM ROUTAN/ CHRYSLER / DODGE / JEEP AND YOU WILL SEE THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. NOT SURE WHY THE GOVERNMENT WON'T FORCE CHRYSLER / VOLKSWAGEN (CHRYSLER MANUFACTURED THE ROUTAN FOR VOLKSWAGEN) TO RECALL THEM AFFECTED VEHICLES. THIS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND ITS A $1200 TO REPLACE. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS IF THIS IS SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM.

CANNOT DETECT AN ISSUE. *ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING-VW CANNOT DETECT ANYTHING WRONG.* ALARMS GO OFF BUT NO SIGNAL SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD.*POWER WINDOWS AND SEATS WORK INTERMITTENTLY- *FOUND VEHICLE'S SLIDING DOOR WIDE OPEN I PARKING LOT, TWICE. * HAVE ALSO FOUND WINDOWS OPEN. OUR LIFT GATE (TRUNK) OPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.* VEHICLE FAILED TO SHIFT,WHILE DRIVING, REVVED AND WOULD NOT RESET UNTIL PULLING OVER AND TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. THOUGH VW COULD NOT FIND FAULTY READINGS AND DIDN'T BELIEVE TIPM IS THE ISSUE BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T READ IT. BEING FAMILIAR WITH PROGRAMMING, I KNOW THAT GLITCHES CAN CAUSE FAULTY READINGS.IF THERE IS A GLITCH BEFORE THE READING CAN BE PROCESSED BY THE COMPUTER, THERE WILL BE NO FAULTY READING LOGGED. A PC WON'T SAVE A FILE, EITHER IF THE POWER SUPPLY IS INTERRUPTED BEFORE IT CAN DO SO..TIPM MALFUNCTIONS CAN ALSO CAUSE ALL OTHER ISSUES I HAVE EXPERIENCED. UPON GETTING A SECOND OPINION FROM TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS, THEY SAID ONLY THE SOLENOID WAS FAULTY. THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT A FAULTY TIPM BOX WILL CAUSE SOLENOID ISSUES AND EVENTUALLY RUIN THE NEW ONE, TOO. *RECENTLY, ALL LOCKS STOPPED WORKING & THE VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE OPENED & LOCKED MANUALLY. AT THE SAME TIME ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE ON AND HAD TO BE TURNED OFF AT THE DASHBOARD- THIS WOULD HAVE DRAINED THE BATTERY HAD IT HAPPENED ON A WORK DAY. VW HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 2 FULL DAYS AND YET DOESN'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. WE HAVE HAD THESE ISSUES AND USELESS REPAIRS FOR OVER 2 YEARS. ALL ISSUES POINT TO FAULTY TIPM (MANUFACTURED BY CHRYSLER, WHO HAD TO SETTLE IN A LAWSUIT ABOUT THE TIPM BOX/ FAULTY RELAY ISSUE FOR JEEP, DODGE, AND CHRYSLER). WE NEED HELP WITH THESE ISSUES. TOO MANY OF US HAVE IT 2011 AND 2012 MODELS AS WELL. PLEASE HELP.
VAN WILL NOT START UNLESS WE PUT IT ON NEUTRAL. NOW WE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS EVEN IF WE PUT IT ON NEUTRAL. POSSIBLE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH GONE BAD.

THE VEHICLE BECAME INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE GROUND STRAP CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
VEHICLE CONTINUES TO SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING. VEHICLE MUST EITHER BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED OR PLACED IN NEUTRAL WHILE COASTING TO RESTART.
WE HAVE HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS SINCE WE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WOBBLE AND MAKE NOISE. IT STARTED WITH LESS THAN 15,000 MILES ON THE CAR. WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE PADS AND ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES. ONCE UNDER WARRANTED AND A FEW TIMES AFTER. WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE HEARINGS AS WELL AS THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE PROBLEM IS PRIMARILY WITH THE FRONT WHEELS AND BRAKES. WE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE.

FOR YEARS I HAVE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT FAILURES IN STARTING MY CAR, EACH TIME IF I WAIT A WHILE IT WILL START. ADDITIONALLY, BEGINNING IN FEB 2016, MY ENGINE WILL SIMPLY SHUT DOWN WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION (PRETTY SCARY). I HAVE DEALT WITH VW SEVERAL TIME TO NO AVAIL AND ALWAYS AT MY EXPENSE. THIS LATEST DEVELOPMENT MAY COST ME OR SOMEONE ELSE THEIR LIFE. VW ACTS LIKE THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE AND IF THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE ISSUE THEY CAN'T ADDRESS THE ISSUE, REALLY! THIS IS CRIMINAL! I HAVE HAD A STARTER REPLACED AS WELL AS A SWITCH AND NO CHANGE. ALL I GET FROM VW IS "YOU CAN TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND GET A SECOND OPINION WE WILL COVER 1 HOUR OF THE COST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM" REALLY NO GREATER EXPERTISE NO INFORMATION SHARING, JUST ANOTHER DEALER, THE THIRD OF WHICH WILL LIKELY TELL ME, WE CAN'T CREATE THE PROBLEM!

THE STABILITY AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START PERIODICALLY. THE VEHICLE WILL START FOR 2 TO 3 WEEKS AND THEN NOT START SEVERAL TIMES. IF YOU WAIT FOR A PERIOD OF TIME OR PLAY WITH THE FUSE BOX, OR TRY DIFFERENT WAYS TO START THE VEHICLE IT WILL START. THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND HAD ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND HAVE BEEPING NOISES FOR NO REASON. NO WARNING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED AND NO ERRORS ARE ON THE COMPUTER. THE VEHICLE HAS A NEW BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. I HAVE READ ONLINE THE ENTIRE TIPM UNIT(FUSE BOX/ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROL UNIT) IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE STARTER AND FUEL PUMP RELAYS, WHICH IS WELL OVER $1000 WORTH OF WORK, BUT I HAVE NOT HAD IT COMPLETED YET. OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE VEHICLE TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING, WHICH FORTUNATELY HAS NOT HAPPENED TO ME YET. THE VEHICLE HAS A DVD SYSTEM THAT WORKED AND DOES NOT WORK NOW. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ITEM A LONG TIME AGO, SINCE I UNDERSTAND VOLKSWAGEN IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE.
ALL ICONS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT UP CAUSING WIPERS TO DEPLOY, LOSS OF RADIO/GPS, HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, FOG LIGHTS AND PREVENTING THE UNLOCKING OF REAR DOORS. PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY PORT CHARLOTTE VW SPECIALIST AS TIPM FAILURE. THIS FAILURE OCCURS WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN IGNITION IS TURNED ON.
I BOUGHT A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2009 ROUTAN. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR, THE CAR RANDOMLY WILL NOT START, IT JUST CLICKS BUT WILL NOT START. REPLACED BATTERY. STILL - CAR WILL NOT START. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 3 YEARS. HAD STARTER & ALTERNATOR CHECKED - BOTH GOOD. HAD THE IGNITION RECALL DONE AND PROBLEM RESOLVED ITSELF FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS - NOW IT STARTED DOING THIS AGAIN - RANDOMLY WILL NOT START. HUBBY MOVED A WIRE UNDER THE HOOD AND MAGICALLY THE CAR STARTED. GOT HOME AND VAN WILL NOT START! AFTER SPENDING $5,200 ON A NEW TRANSMISSION - I HATE TO PUT ANY MORE $$ INTO THIS VAN. HAS ANYONE FOUND A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM - I'VE SEEN MANY HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE. TALKED TO A LADY AT VW REPAIR SHOP WHO HAS BEEN IN EXCESS OF $3,000 TRYING TO FIX THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. STILL KEEPS HAPPENING. HELP!
RE: SLIDING DOOR WIRING HARNESS. DEFECTIVE EXTRUSION COATING ON COOPER WIRES, WHICH IS A NON-MALLEABLE COATING PRONE TO CRACKING AND BREAKING. CAUSES FAILURE IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, DISABLING ELECTRONICS IN THE DOOR AND POTENTIAL GROUNDING OF VOLTAGE. THE UNDESIRED RESULT IS AN IMPROPERLY LOCKED DOOR THAT CAN BE JARRED OPEN AND IS NOT PROPERLY SECURED WILL RATTLE WHEN DRIVING.
AFTER MY VAN HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A WHILE AND IT BEEN WARMED UP FOR 15 MINUTES. WITH IN THE FIRST 2 TO 5 MILES OF DRIVING THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE VAN WILL SHUT OFF AND THE STEERING WHEEL AND BREAK WILL FAIL. THEN I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF AND RESTART THE VAN AND IT SOMETIME REPEAT ITSELF IF I'M STUCK IN TRAFFIC.
THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING HAD ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON , THE GAUGES GO UP AND DOWN AND THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ONE AFTERNOON. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE HOUSE. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A ROUTINE PROBLEM FOR OTHERS AS WELL.
HAD THE WIN MODULE REPLACED FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. NOW THE CAR WILL MAKE SUDDEN STOPS AND SHUT DOWN. CAR THEN WILL NOT START UP UNLESS THE BATTERY IS UNHOOKED AND HOOKED BACK UP. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE 350.00 TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
THE VEHICLE'S RIGHT-REAR AXLE TRAILING ARM BROKE WHILE DRIVING AT A VERY LOW SPEED. THE BREAK IS VERY CLEAN AND IS LOCATED NEAR THE FRONT OF THE TRAILING ARM'S CUTOUT AREA, JUST BEHIND THE TRAILING ARM MOUNTING BRACKET.
DRIVING DOWNHILL, FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR. ABRUPT LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. VEHICLE UNDER KNOWN RECALL AND HAS BEEN "FIXED". THIS INCIDENT HAS NOW OCCURRED 3-4X SINCE THE RECALL FIX, NEARLY IDENTICAL CIRCUMSTANCES APPROX EVERY 1-3 MONTHS. VW KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR > 2 WEEKS, UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME WITHOUT ANY NEW ATTEMPTS AT FIXING IT. I WILL BE RETURNING IT TO VW AND TAKING IT OUT OF SERVICE.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VAN AND HAD A RECALL PERFORMED FOR THE IGNITION, AT THE TIME I WAS THEIR IS WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE WAS ALSO A RECALL FOR THE WIRING HARNESS ON THE SLIDING DOORS. THEY NOTICED A WIRE BROKEN APART ON THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR. VW SERVICE WAS GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS A RECALL THEN THEY NOTICED IT HAD ALREADY BEEN CLOSED. HOWEVER THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME IT MIGHT BE A MISTAKE BECAUSE HE COULD NOT TELL WHERE IT HAD BEEN DONE AND SUGGESTED I CALL THE CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER FOR VW WHICH I DID. I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS DONE HOWEVER THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME THE EXACT DATE OR LOCATION THE SERVICE WAS PERFORMED. THIS WAS A SAFETY RECALL BECAUSE THE WIRES WOULD BREAK AND CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE TWIN DAUGHTERS I AM WORRIED FOR THEIR SAFETY IN THIS VEHICLE, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THEIR IS ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE IN THIS SITUATION AND IF I HAVE A RIGHTS SINCE VW CAN NOT PROVE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. I TOOK MY VAN INTO THE VW DEALER TO GET THE SAFETY RECALL #28H1 PERFORMED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS AN AFTERMARKET REMOTE START INSTALLED AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL NOT PERFORM THE RECALL SERVICE UNTIL I GET ALL THE WIRING CONNECTORS BACK TO STOCK. I TOOK UP THIS ISSUE WITH THE VW CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY GAVE ME THE SAME ANSWER. I DON'T SEE HOW THIS AFTERMARKET REMOTE STARTER ABSOLVES VW FROM THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PERFORM THE SAFETY RECALL. IT IS THEIR DEFECTIVE PART THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE REMOTE STARTER, I JUST WANT THE SAFETY RECALL TO BE DONE AS THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE TO DO.
MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN DIES WHILE DRIVING. I'VE ON THE VEHICLE FOR TWO YEARS AND THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING THE WHOLE TIME. THAT USUALLY HAPPENS AT LOWER SPEEDS (UNDER 35MPH). IT HAPPENS WHEN I'M GOING STRAIGHT AND WHEN I'M TURNING CORNERS, GOING OVER OR NO BUMPS AT ALL. WHEN MY CAR DIES I LOSE STEERING, ALL POWER/ELECTRICAL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO VOLKSWAGEN THREE TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS SERVICED FOR A RECALL FIX. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED SO I TOOK IT BACK AND WAS INFORMED OF A SECOND RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE. SO I HAD IT SERVICED FOR THE SECOND RECALL FIX. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED SO I TAKE IT BACK A THIRD TIME. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT MY CAR FOR OVER TWO WEEKS AND THEN TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED AND SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY.
IN TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT I HEARD A "PING" IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I IMMEDIATELY FELT A LOSS OF CONTROL IN THE REAR SUSPENSION. IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ROADWORTHY AT THAT POINT AND WE HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD BROKEN.
WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST POWER. AFTER COMING TO A STOP THE VAN WOULD START FINE AND WAS ABLE TO FINISH THE TRIP. A FEW DAYS LATER THIS SAME ISSUE OCCURRED WHILE COMING TO A STOP. WE RETURNED THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR WORK ON A FAULTY RADIO AND MENTIONED THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE RADIO REPLACED AND TOOK IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEN STARTED HAPPENING AGAIN. THE VAN WAS TAKEN IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THEY CHECKED ABOUT THE STALLING ISSUE. THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM, BUT AFTER THE OIL CHANGE THE VAN WORKED BETTER FOR A FEW DAYS. IT NOW STALLS MULTIPLE TIMES PER DAY, USUALLY GOING LESS THAN 30 MPH. ON SEPT 19, 2015 THE VAN STALLED WHILE ACCELERATING ON TO THE ENTRANCE RAMP OF THE HIGHWAY. THE SPEED WAS ABOUT 45MPH.

THE APPROXIMATE FAIURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

ON 6/21/15, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT APPROXIMATELY 75MPH. I WAS NOT ACCELERATING, NOR HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS OR BRAKE PETAL. WITHOUT ANY WARNING, THE GAS PETAL PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING QUICKLY. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND TURNED OFF THE CRUISE, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IN EXCESS OF 100MPH. I FEARED COLLIDING WITH OTHER DRIVERS ON THE TWO-LANED HIGHWAY, AND BEGAN BRAKING AGAINST THE CAR'S ACCELERATION, WHICH WAS QUITE DIFFICULT. I PUSHED THE BRAKE PETAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD, WHICH STOPPED FURTHER ACCELERATION; BUT DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO REV UP AND TRIED RELENTLESSLY TO ACCELERATE AGAINST MY BEST EFFORTS TO BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO THE GRAVEL SHOULDER. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO AROUND 20MPH, I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND COASTED TO A STOP. THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF SMOKE FROM THE BRAKES. I BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A CRUISE CONTROL MALFUNCTION OR A RELATED SENSOR. I DISCONTINUED USING THE CRUISE AT ANY TIME. HOWEVER, ON 7/9/15, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THIS TIME, THE CRUISE WAS NOT SET, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR ON A THREE LANE FREEWAY. THE SAME STEPS NOTED ABOVE SLOWED THE VEHICLE AFTER IT BEGAN ACCELERATING OUT OF CONTROL, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE SURROUNDING VEHICLES. THE GAS PETAL WAS AGAIN STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND COULD NOT BE PULLED UP. AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, THERE IS LIKELY SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE BRAKES AND/OR ENGINE. I CONTACTED A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP, THAT PLANS TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. I AM FEARFUL OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE VW SALES MANAGER TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION AND BE SURE TO TURN THE KEY TO "OFF" OR "ACCESSORY" SHOULD THE PROBLEM OCCUR AGAIN.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR VAN WHEN SHE PULLED OUT ONTO THE MAIN ROAD FROM OUR DRIVEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BUT SHE DID HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CYCLE THE KEYSWITCH TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED THE CLOSEST DEALER TO HAVE THIS KNOWN RECALL FIXED ON OUR VAN ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY HAVE TO WITNESS THIS EVENT HAPPENING. THOUGH THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED 3 MONTHS AGO IT IS A VERY INTERMITTENT ISSUE. THE DEALER IS ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF FROM OUR HOUSE WHICH MAKES IT A 3 HOUR ROUND TRIP AND A DAY OFF FROM WORK. I DON'T MIND TAKING A COUPLE OF DAYS OFF TO GET THIS PROBLEMS SOLVED BUT THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME SOME OF THESE VANS HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR 4 MONTHS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT? NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND A HUGE LIABILITY. I DID CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY TOLD ME THE DEALER SHOULD REPLACE THE PART AND IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE WITNESSED BY THEIR PERSONNEL. WITH THAT INFORMATION IN AN E-MAIL I ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME VW CUSTOMER CARE WAS WRONG AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN THEIR SHOP. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS WHOLE PROCESS. IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM...SHOULDN'T THEY FIX IT BEFORE HARM OR EVEN DEATH COMES TO MY LOVED ONES?
