RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE SEATBELT COLUMN. HAVE BROUGHT IN MY CAR AND SENT RECORDINGS OF THE NOISE AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE NOISE THEY NOW HAVE IT FOR THE 3 MRS TIME AND I HAVE SHARED U TUBE LINKS AND THE VW FORUM TO SHOW THEM THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE THE ISSUES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT INDICATOR FLASHED AND A CHIME WAS HEARD EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WAS SECURED. FLOW VOLKSWAGEN OF CHARLOTTESVILLE (1313 RICHMOND RD, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA 22911, (434) 296-4147) WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER BEING DIAGNOSED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A DELAY IN PROVIDING THE PART CONCERNING AN UNKNOWN RECALL FOR THE AMBIENT LIGHTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBERS: EA18005 (SEAT BELTS) AND PE18001 (SEAT BELTS); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS RELATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE SEAT BELT FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60. ..*BF*JB
THERE IS A RECALL FOR SUNROOF LIGHTING: FROM VW WEBSITE: HIGH HUMIDITY IN THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF AMBIENT LIGHTING BAR LED MODULE (CAUSED BY ENVIRONMENT OR BY LEAVING THE SUNROOF OPEN) COULD LEAD TO A LOCAL SHORT CIRCUIT. IF THIS HAPPENS, THERE IS A RISK OF A FIRE. SO, I BOUGHT HIGHER MODEL BECAUSE I WANTED THIS FEATURE, BUT NOW I CANNOT USE IT BECAUSE VW IS GOING TO DISCONNECT IT? AT THE END, PAY FOR FEATURE, BUT YOU CANNOT USE IT BECAUSE VW CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHICH FIRE TO PUT OUT.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A DRIVE ABILITY PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS A MAJOR HESITATION AND IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR ALMOST CUTS OUT BUT DOESN'T STALL AND FIND IT VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. ALSO, THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY AMBIENT LIGHTING ON MY SUNROOF. THERE COULD BE A LEAK OR HUMIDITY COULD AFFECT THE WIRING AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THERE FIX IS TO DISCONNECT IT. I HAVE NO SUNROOF LIGHTING. I SHOULD GET A REFUND FOR SOMETHING THEY TOOK AWAY.
MY VEHICLE HAS 2 SERIOUS ISSUES. THE 1ST IS THE GAS/EXHAUST SMELL THAT IS INSIDE THE CABIN. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS CONSISTENTLY. THIS TENDS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES ARE OVER 108 DEGREES. THE 2ND ISSUE IS THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ALWAYS ACCELERATE FROM A COMPLETE STOP WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS STEPPED ON. THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL INTO TRAFFIC A LITTLE BIT AND THEN 2-4 SECONDS PASS AND THEN IT WILL GO. IT IS VERY TOUCH AND GO AFTER IT DOES THIS AND IT TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES FOR IT TO FULLY BE "NORMAL" I HAVE HAD IT AT THE DEALERSHIP 2 TIMES FOR THESE ISSUES. THEY KEEP TELLING ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. BOTH ISSUES HAPPEN WITHOUT REASON. IT HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. IT HAPPENS WITH OR WITHOUT THE "START/STOP" SYSTEM ACTIVATED. IT HAPPENS IN HOT AND COLD. I USE PREMIUM GAS LIKE THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO DO. I DO NOT TOP OFF WHEN I GET GAS. IT STILL CONTINUES TO HAPPEN.
PANORAMIC SUNROOF LED AMBIENT PANEL LIGHTS RECALL RESULTING IN DARKER LIGHTING INSIDE VEHICLE WHICH MAKES ME MORE AFRAID AT NIGHT AND WAS A FALSE ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE AS THE ORIGINAL LIGHTING WAS WHAT ATTRACTED ME TO THE VEHICLE UPON LEASE AGREEMENT.NO EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO REPAIR THE LIGHTING DEFECT CAUSED BY RECALL.
VEHICLES HESITATES TO START FROM A SLOW OR DEAD STOP. WILL NOT ACCELERATE AS IT SHOULD. NOTICEABLE LAG WHEN SHIFTING AND ACCELERATING. ENGINE MISFIRING AT ONLY 3000 MILES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TURNING INTO TRAFFIC OR MERGING ON TO HIGHWAYS. VEHICLE GIVES A FALSE SENSE OF ACCELERATING THEN STOPS. THIS HAPPENS RELIABLY OVER AND OVER.
VEHICHLES AUTO ON OFF POWER SYSTEM ENABLES WHILE TURNING, STOPPED, OR PARKED IF SEATBELT IS BUCKLED. TURNS MADE COMPLICATED IF ENGINES AUTO STOP COMES ON. VEHICHLE UNABLE TO MAKE COMPLETE TURN WITH EASE AT A COAST WHILE AUTO STOP KICKS ON. TURNING INTO PARKING SPOT AUTO ENGINE SYSTEM KICKED TO OFF. CAR DID NOT TURN WELL CAUSING CAR TO NOT TURN EAISLY LIKE THERE WAS NO POWER OR POWER STEERING. CAR BUMPED INTO CAR NEXT TO IT WHICH WAS PARKED. CAUSING FRONT PASSANGER DAMAGE.
ENGINE OIL WILL LEAK FROM INTAKE CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT VALVE. LEAK WAS NOTICED FIRST WHEN PARKED. AFTER FIRST REPAIR BY DEALER (11 JULY 2018), IT STARTED TO LEAK AGAIN ONLY AFTER FIVE DAYS FROM REPAIR. THIS REPRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MAY CAUSE A FIRE OR EVENTUALLY ENGINE TO FAIL. CAN PROVIDE REPAIR REPORT FROM DEALER (FIRST REPAIR) AND SECOND ONCE IT IS FINALIZED. THANK YOU.
GUESS I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE A LOT OF OTHERS ARE HAVING. SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND HIT THE GAS AND NOTHING HAPPENS. SMELLS LIKE GAS INSIDE THE CABIN. IT'S BEEN IN SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 15 DAYS AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND NO ETA ON THE FIX. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN DECEMBER 2017.
I PURCHASED MY TIGUAN SE 4MOTION IN JULY 2018 AND SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATION AND NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE B PILLAR. THE ACCELERATION FEELS LIKE A TURBO LAG FROM THE START WHERE THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE HESITATES TO RESPOND CAUSING A SMALL "STALL". THIS HAPPENS IN BOTH DRIVE AND SPORT MODES. WHEN ACCELERATING UP-HILL THE VEHICLE HAS ISSUES WITH FINDING THE PROPER GEAR AND CONSTANTLY SEARCHES FOR A GEAR TO SETTLE ON. THE B PILLAR NOISE SOUNDS LIKE LOUD CLICKING WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AND RUTS IN THE ROAD AND EVEN MAKES A NOISE WHEN OPENING THE DOOR TO ITS FULLEST.
ON 7/13/2018 WE ARE ON A FAMILY TRIP WHEN WE STOP THE VEHICLE TO TAKE SOME PICTURES THE CAR ON PARKING, START TO MAKE HIGH AND LOW ACELERATION WITH VIBRATIONS AND THEN A LIGHT WITH EPC SHOW ON DASHBOARD. I TURN OFF THE CAR FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TURN ON, THE EPC LIGHT DISAPPEAR, BUT THE VIBRATIONS CONTINUED. THE NEXT DAY (7/14/2018) WE ARE ON THE ROAD AND THE VEHICULE STARTS THE VIBRATIONS , THEN SHOW THE CHECKENGINE PICTURE ON THE DASHBOARD, RAPIDLY 2 ERRORS APPEARED ON THE SCREEN 'ERROR: START-STOP' AND 'ENGINE ON DUE TO SYSTEM ERROR'. WE CALL VW CENTER AND WE HAVE A INSPECCION OF THE VEHICLE THIS WEEK. ALSO WITH LESS OF 4,000MI WE SAW THAT THE FRONT BRAKE DISCS HAVE PROBLEMS. THEY SHOW A BIG MARK WITH DITCH. THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE PADS OR WITH THE STOP SYSTEM
THE VEHICLE HAS A START/STOP FEATURE THAT IS ON BY DEFAULT AND IS DANGEROUS WHEN WAITING TO MAKE A TURN. IT TEMPORARILY SHUTS THE CAR DOWN AND RESTARTS UPON RELEASE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MOVE THE CAR FORWARD WHICH CAUSES SEVERE HESITATION IN EXCELLERATION. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE TRANSMISSION IN THIS VEHICLE JERKS AND HESITATES. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY KICK IN IT CAUSES THE CAR TO SURGE FORWARD TO FAST AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AND HANDLE IN A TURN, EPECIALLY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. HAVE ALMOST BEEN T-BONED A FEW TIMES DUE TO BOTH OF THESE ISSUES. WE DONT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE!! THESE ISSUES NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY VOLKSWAGON BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT. WE LOVE THE STYLING AND LOOK OF OUR TIGUAN BUT FEEL THE TRANSMISSION AND START/STOP ISSUES ARE VERY UNSAFE!!
TICKING NOISE/RATTLING FROM THE B-PILLAR ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE.
BOUGHT THE CAR IN OCTOBER 2017, IMMEDIATELY HAD TO HAVE THE LEFT REAR SENSOR REPLACED BECAUSE IT WOULD SHOW THAT THERE WAS A VEHICLE TO THE LEFT OF ME, EVEN WHEN I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SET TO AUTOMATIC THEY ARE ALWAYS ON. THEY DON'T TURN OFF WHEN YOUR DRIVING IN FULL SUNSHINE. B PILLAR RATTLE HAS GOTTEN STEADILY WORSE ON BOTH SIDES. I JUST TOOK MY CAR IN AND THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON WHEN I WILL GET IT BACK. THE RATTLING HAPPENS ALL TIMES OF THE DAY AND ON ALL ROAD CONDITIONS. THE TEMPERATURE DOESN'T SEEM TO IMPACT THE RATTLING EITHER.
ENGINE ON THIS VEHICLE IS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND. WHEN I GIVE GAS, IT STRUGGLES TO START MOVING, FEELS LIKE IT IS CARRYING 10K LBS OF LOAD BEHIND. I PUSH GAS PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR AT A SIGNAL LIGHT TO GET AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. CAR WON'T RESPOND FOR ABOUT 1 OR 2 SECONDS, THEN STARTS TO MOVE, BUT VERY SLOW, CRAWLING, THEN STARTS TO SPEED UP. TURBO LAG IS VERY BAD. I DON'T FEEL SAFE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE THAT IS BEING REPORTED FROM CUSTOMERS. TO BE FRANK, THE SIZE OF THE VEHICLE (LARGER THAN OTHER MODELS) DOES NOT SEEM TO MATCH THE ENGINE SIZE. NHTSA NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO SHARE THE SAME FEARS.
I PURCHASED MY 2018 TIGUAN ON JUNE 26TH, 2018. ON JUNE 27TH, AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY I HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR . THE MORE I DROVE THE LOUDER IT WAS . I DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. I WAS HEADED TO THE DEALERSHIP ANYWAY BECAUSE MY CAR WAS MISSING 3 ITEMS FROM THE TRUCK. THE PAINT PROTECTOR WASN'T DONE PROPERLY AND THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WASN'T CLEAN. I SPOKE WITH MY SALES PERSON ONCE I ARRIVED AND WE WENT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE CAR RE-DETAILED INSIDE AND OUT ALONG WITH THEM CHECKING OUT THE NOISE I WAS HEARING. THURSDAY JUNE 29, 10 AM, I ARRIVED AND CHECKED MY VEHICLE IN. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF HOURS TO COMPLETE EVERYTHING. IT TOOK 5 HOURS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SHIFT PLATE UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS LOOSE AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 3 TO 4 DAYS FOR THE PART TO ARRIVE. I RECEIVED A CALL ON JULY 5TH, STATING THE PART CAME IN AND I WAS SCHEDULED TO COME BACK IN ON SATURDAY JULY 9TH AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE A TECHNICIAN RIDE WITH ME , SINCE I WAS HEARING THE NOISE FROM THE SEAT BELT PANEL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. WHEN I ARRIVED, THE TECHNICIAN RODE WITH ME TO HEAR THE NOISE AND HE AGREED THAT IT WAS COMING FROM THE SEAT BELT PANEL. TECHNICIAN DROVE 2 OTHER DEMO CARS SINCE MY CAR WAS DRIVEN BY THE OWNER. FAST-FORWARD, I WAS TOLD THE DEMO CARS SOUNDED THE SAME WAY AND THAT HE TOOK THE SEAT BELT PANEL OFF, REARRANGED SOMETHING , DROVE THE CAR AND DIDN'T HEAR THE NOISE. THE SERVICE PERSON EXPLAINED THAT IF I STILL HEARD THE NOISE THAT IT WAS NOTHING THAT COULD BE DONE AND I HAD TO DEAL WITH THE NOISE. SINCE MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME , I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO GO BACK AND FORTH, I SAID OK AND REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO VOLKSWAGEN.
CREAK/RATTLE FROM DRIVER'S SIDE B-PILLAR ALMOST SINCE NEW. HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD; HAPPENS MOST BUT NOT ALL OF THE TIME. RECENTLY STARTED SAME FROM PASSENGER-SIDE B-PILLAR, BUT LESS FREQUENTLY. MOST OFTEN NOTICED WHEN DRIVING A MODERATE SPEEDS (35-55). THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH A TSB FOR EARLY MODEL YEAR PRODUCTION. MAY INVOLVE POOR/MISSING WELDS.
ENGINE ON THIS VEHICLE IS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND. WHEN I GIVE GAS, IT STRUGGLES TO START MOVING, FEELS LIKE IT IS CARRYING 10K LBS OF LOAD BEHIND. THERE ARE ONLY TWO PASSENGERS, NOT PULLING ANYTHING. PUSH GAS PEDDLE TO THE FLOOR AT A SIGNAL LIGHT TO GET AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. CAR WON'T RESPONSE FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND, THEN STARTS TO MOVE, BUT VERY SLOW, CRAWLING, THEN STARTS TO SPEED UP. TURBO LAG IS VERY BAD. NEED TO UPDATE SOFTWARE TO HELP ELIMINATE THIS. AUDI USES THE SAME ENGINE, BUT RESPONSE IS SO MUCH BETTER.
THERE IS WEIRD TURBO/ENGINE SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN ENGINE IS COLD, COLD START, YOU HEAR GRINDING TYPE OF NOISE. IT IS VERY LOUD. ONCE ENGINE IS DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, NOISE IS REDUCED, BUT STILL THERE. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT HAS CLICKING NOISE. YOU DO NOT HEAR IT WHEN SEATING INSIDE THE VEHICLE, BUT YOU CAN HEAR IT WHEN OUTSIDE AND SOMEONE ELSE IS SHIFTING. THE NOISE IS WHEN CAR GOES FROM EITHER DRIVE TO NEUTRAL, OR REVERSE TO NEUTRAL. IT'S A CLICKING NOISE, LIKE CHIME AND METAL BANGING MIXED TOGETHER.
MY EVERYDAY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE INCLUDES - HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING QUICKLY, JERKING FORCEFULLY WHEN ACCELERATING SLOWLY, RANDOM JERKING WHILE DRIVING. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH, EVEN AS AN AUTOMATIC CAR, I CAN FEEL EVERY GEAR CHANGE. ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY, I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE WHEN I ATTEMPT A LANE CHANGE. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS TO QUICKLY SPEED UP, MY VEHICLE HESITATES AND DOES NOT MATCH WHAT I AM DOING ON THE PEDAL. THE HESITATION IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. I AM EXTREMELY ANXIOUS WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL IN CONTROL. I WORRY THAT, AT ANY POINT, IT WILL HESITATE OR JERK FORCEFULLY, AND CAUSE HARM TO ME, MY PASSENGERS, AND/OR THOSE IN OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THIS WAS NOT A ONE-TIME OCCURRENCE. THIS DOES NOT JUST OCCUR WHEN DRIVING AT CERTAIN SPEEDS. THE HESITATION AND JERKING OCCUR DAILY.
THERE IS A RATTLE COMING FROM LOWER B PILLAR RATTLE COMING FROM DRIVER SEAT BELT RETRACTOR, OVERHEAD CONSOLE, WOOD TRIM ON BOTH FRONT DOORS, BOTH TWEETER SPEAKER GRILLS, BOTH REAR CUP HOLDERS, ALSO FOUND REAR DECK LID CLIPS NOT CLIPPED IN ALL THE WAY DRIVER REAR ACCESS PANEL RATTING ALONG WITH BOTH REAR STOP LIGHT ACCESS PANELS
VEHICLE ENGAGES AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM WITHOUT ANY PROMPTING...NO OTHER VEHICLE ANYWHERE IN SIGHT. IT HAS HAPPENED ON A RURAL TWO LANE ROAD, WITH A FARM ON ONE SIDE AND WOODS ON THE OTHER AND HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON A 4 LANE ROAD WITHIN CITY LIMITS, BUT NO VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, BUT ONE TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE IN THE LANE HEADING IN THE SAME DIRECTION. EVERY TIME THIS HAPPENS IT BRINGS THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP, REGARDLESS OF SPEED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHIPLASH ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AS WELL AS MY HUSBAND AND MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THE AMOUNT OF FORCE IS SO VIOLENT THAT I WOULD IMAGINE IT IS EQUIVALENT TO BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAD JUST PICKED UP TAKE-OUT ONCE WHEN THIS HAD HAPPENED, AND THE SALSA IN THE TAKEOUT BAG FLEW OFF OF THE BACK SEAT AND THE FORCE CAUSED THE LID TO COME OFF AND SALSA WAS ALL OVER THE 2ND ROW, FRONT ROW, AS WELL AS MYSELF AND WINDSHIELD TO PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE HOW FORCEFUL THIS IS. I FEAR THE DAY THAT IT ENGAGES AND A CAR IS BEHIND ME, BECAUSE IT WILL KILL SOMEONE. WE ONLY DRIVE THIS CAR NOW ONLY IF IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND WE CAN'T MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO WAIT FOR A RESPONSE FOR TRADING IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 750. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN I'M GIVING GAS/ ACCELERATING, THERE IS A "HISSING-SOUND" COMING FROM OUTSIDE AND MORE CLEARER AND LOUDER TO THE PASSENGER SIDE PERSON POSITION. CAN HEAR IT EVEN CLEAR IF I ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS. SOUND STARTS COMING ANYWHERE FROM 0 - MAX MPH NO MATTER WHICH ROADS I DRIVE IN. DON'T KNOW FOR SURE WHICH PART OF THE CAR IS DOING THE SOUND BUT "ACCELERATION" IS THE CAUSING IT AND WHEN I LET THE CAR ROLL WITHOUT GIVING GAS, THE SOUND STOPS. WHILE DRIVING IN A 50MPH ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. I DIDN'T WANT TO PULL OVER ONTO A NARROW BIKE LANE. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2018 VW TIGUAN FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP IN MY TOWN. TWO WEEKS LATER THEY CALLED ME AND ASKED ME TO BRING IT BACK IN TO HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. AFTER AN HOUR OF SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR THEM TO CHECK I FINALLY WENT TO THEIR DESK AND ASKED WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY TOLD ME THAT MINE WAS RECALLED AND THEY COULDN'T LET ME LEAVE WITH MY CAR. THEN THEY SPENT 2 HOURS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T SURE IF THEY SHOULD GET ME A RENTAL CAR OR A LOANER. EVENTUALLY THEY GOT ME A RENTAL CAR AND ARE COVERING THE COST OF THAT. BUT NOW I'M LOOKING INTO THE SPECIFIC RECALL '42I7' AND IT WOULD SEEM THAT THE RECALL MAY HAVE BEEN IN PLACE PRIOR TO THEM SELLING ME THE CAR. A FEW DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING (ON THE ROAD), CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY, ALL WARNING LIGHTS WENT ON. HAD TO BE TOWED TO CLOSEST VW WHERE IT WOULD REMAIN FOR OVER A MONTH. FIRST DIAGNOSED AS UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL PROB - NEEDED TO BE ANALYZED BY VW ENGINEER WHO BELIEVED IT TO BE THE BATTERY. NEW BATTERY DID NOT REMEDY ISSUE - NEW ALTERNATOR WAS ORDERED, AGAIN DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. FINALLY WAS IDENTIFIED AS A ISSUING WITH THE WIRING BEING STRIPPED. FEEL COMPLETELY UNSAFE IN MY NEW CAR - HAS ALSO BEEN EFFECTED BY TWO RECALLS SINCE (IN ADDITION TO THE ONE MONTH IN THE VW DEALERSHIP FROM NON RECALL ISSUE) - CURRENT SUNROOF RECALL HAS NO FIX ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO DISCONNECT THE WIRING - I FEEL COMPLETELY UNSAFE IN THE CAR AND WILL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE. CAR SHOULD BE BOUGHT BACK BY VW - OPEN RECALLS WITH NO FIX LEAVE THE CAR WORTHLESS. WHAT ELSE WILL GO WRONG WITH THE 2018 TIGUAN - WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER VW IN THE FUTURE.
IN THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL TANK HAD TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE HAS DISPLAYED INTERMITTENT LOSS OF RESPONSE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS OCCURS WHEN FIRST SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESPOND TO ANY INPUT INTO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE ENGINE RPMS WILL HOLD AT 1000 OR DROP TO ALMOST STALLING THE CAR. AFTER ABOUT 10-20 SECONDS OF THIS, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY RECOGNIZE THE THROTTLE INPUT AND WILL LURCH FORWARD. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF WHEN THE VEHICLE WILL DECIDE TO RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE INPUT. THE B-PILLAR ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR STARTED TO RATTLE WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS OVER ~55 F. THIS HAS BEEN SERVICED ONCE, PER A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM VOLKSWAGEN. THE SERVICE SIMPLY MADE THE PROBLEM INTERMITTENT. THE TSB STATES THAT THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE AIR BAG MODULES RUBBING ON THE METAL OF THE FRAME AND BODY. ADDITIONALLY THE TSB PROCEDURE INSTRUCTS THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TO SLIDE A SCREW DRIVER BETWEEN TWO PIECES OF BODY OR FRAME METAL, AND USE A HAMMER TO BEND THE PANELS APART FROM EACH OTHER. HAS THIS BE PROVEN TO NOT COMPROMISE THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE? THE TRANSMISSION CONSISTENTLY FAILS TO FIND THE CORRECT GEAR TO BE IN AT LOW SPEEDS OR FROM A STOP. WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP THE TRANSMISSION HAS A HARSH SHIFT IN THE FIRST 3 GEARS. THE TRANSMISSION AT TIME WILL START OFF IN THE 3RD GEAR, WITH THE THROTTLE FULLY ENGAGED, AND WILL TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS TO DETERMINE THAT IT NEEDS TO BE IN THE FIRST GEAR. BY THE TIME IT FINALLY SHIFTS INTO FIRST, IT IS AT THE PEAK RPM'S FOR FIRST GEAR AND WILL HARSHLY SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR. THIS IS THEN QUICKLY FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER JERKY SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR. STARTING THE CAR OFF IN THIRD GEAR HAS CAUSED ISSUES FOR MAKING A TURN IN A BREAK IN TRAFFIC TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN NO LONGER RELIABLY DEEM THAT TO BE A SAFE MANEUVER.

TICKING IN THE B PILLAR. IT COMES AND GOES BUT IS LOUD ENOUGH THAT ALL PASSENGERS IN THE CAR HEAR IT. IT IS IDENTICAL TO THE RATTLE THAT ALL OTHER TIGUANS HAVE. VW HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE BUT IT HAS A NARROW VIN RANGE. THERE IS MOST CERTAINLY A STRUCTURAL CONCERN AND INHERENT DESIGN FLAW IN THE B PILLAR. TSB # 2050753/2
THE DRIVER'S SIDE B-PILLAR HAS A RATTLE/CREAK. IT'S A SLIGHT TICKING THAT HAPPENS MOST OF THE TIME OVER UNEVEN ROADS OR WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP; THE RATTLE/NOISE HAPPENS OVER THE SMALLEST BUMP. NOISE CAN BE HEARD EVEN ON EVEN ROADS.I'VE HAD THE CAR SINCE 1/31/2018 WHEN I PURCHASED IT NEW, AND AS OF TODAY 5/12/18 HAS 2637 MILES. I HAVE NOTICED THE RATTLE SINCE THE WEATHER HAS BEEN WARMER AND AFTER THE VEHICLE SITS IN THE SUN OR OUTSIDE. THE WINDSHIELD OF THIS VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO BE LIGHTER WEIGHT TO INCREASE FUEL SAVINGS. THIS IN TURN CAUSED THE WINDSHIELD TO BE MORE FRAGILE. ROCK CHIPS IMMEDIATELY CAUSE CRACKS IN THE GLASS, AND LARGER OBJECT PENETRATE TO THE POLYMER SUB-LAYER EASILY. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IN STATES LIKE COLORADO THAT STILL USE GRAVEL FOR TRACTION ON ICE.

THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FROM 04/13/18 UNTIL 04/17/18, BUT FOUND NO FAILURES. THE DEALER STATED THAT A HEAD ENGINEER WOULD EVALUATE THE VEHICLE ON 04/18/18. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,355.
THIS CAR HAS A NEW "FEATURE" CALLED AUTO START/STOP WHICH, WHEN IS ENABLED BY DEFAULT. IF NOT DISABLED, THIS FEATURE WILL TURN OFF THE CAR WHEN IT'S AT A STANDSTILL AND CONSUMING LITTLE POWER, THEN TURN BACK ON WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS. MEANT AS A FUEL CONSUMPTION MECHANISM, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. A FEW TIMES NOW, I FORGOT TO DISABLE IT, AND WHEN PERCHED IN THE MEDIAN BETWEEN OPPOSITE LANES, I HAD TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY AND ALMOST GOT SLAMMED INTO BECAUSE THE CAR HAD TO FIRST START, THEN ACCELERATE. I LOST 2-3 SECONDS OF REACTION/ACCELERATION TIME. WHEN TEST DRIVING THE CAR, THE SALESMAN TOLD ME IT WAS A FUEL CONSUMPTION FEATURE, THEN TURNED IT OFF FOR THE TEST DRIVE. IF I HAD SEEN THIS IN ACTION, I NEVER WOULD HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR. VW WILL NOT DISABLE IT PERMANENTLY.
WHEN THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE IS DISABLED BY TOGGLING THE BUTTON ON THE CENTER CONSOLE, THE CAR DRIVES VERY ROUGH, ESPECIALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS.
THERE IS ALL THIS HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING ALMOST LIKE A BUCKING OR THE ENGINE IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH GAS/OXYGEN MIX. THEN YOU CAN PRESS THE GAS PEDAL A QUARTER OF THE WAY DOWN AND THE ENGINE HESITATES THEN THROWS THE CAR INTO HIGH GEAR AND TAKES OFF. I HAVE DRIVEN A LOT OF CARS THE PAST WEEK EVEN A VW TOUAREG THAT DID NOT ACT LIKE THIS CAR DOES WITH THE ACCELERATOR. IT IS LIKE THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT SENDING THE CORRECT SINGLE TO THE ENGINE OR THE ENGINE'S COMPUTER IS NOT INTERRUPTING IT CORRECTLY FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR CAN BE BAD AND GIVE A FALSE POSITIVE. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO 4 DEALERSHIPS AND FIELD ENGINEERS HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT VW REFUSES TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REQUESTS BUT THEY KEEP GETTING DENIED AND SAY THERE IS NO FIX FOR THE VEHICLE AND I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE ALMOST GOT INTO 3 ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT REACT AND THE CAR STALLED OUT.

IT'S A HEAT-SENSITIVE ISSUE, OCCURRING WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHES AT LEAST 45 DEGREES AND THE METAL EXPANDS. AFTER FOUR ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BY INSTALLING CLIPS, WEDGES, AND FELT PADDING, VOLKSWAGEN AGREED TO RE-PURCHASE THE VEHICLE FROM ME.
