THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS DRIVEN BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH. IT HAS TROUBLE ACCELERATING.
ON JUNE 7TH, AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE DRIVER FRONT AIRBAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED CAUSING ME TO CRASH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPART AND POLICE DEPARTMENT CAME TO THE SCENE. I WAS NOT INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO TOWED FROM THE SCENE. DEEMED TOTAL LOSS BY INSURANCE COMPANY.
I GOT AN AIRBAG RECALL NOTICE IN JANUARY 2015 FOR MY ACURA MDX. NOW IT'S MID- MAY AND THE ACURA DEALERSHIP KEEPS SAY THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, ACURA NEEDS TO DO BETTER THAN THIS. I SENSED THAT ACURA IS DRAGGING ITS FEET!
THE AIRBAG LIGHT WARNING CONTINUES TO COME ON AND STAY ON. SOMETIMES IS GOES OFF, BUT COMES BACK ON LATER. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER IN CHARGE OF AIRBAG RECALL AND THE ONLY SOLUTION OFFERED WAS PAYING A HEFTY FEE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE WITHOUT GUARANTEE. THIS WAS REPORTED IN 2014 AND HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM BEFORE THIS AND CURRENTLY, 2019.
2004 ACURA MDX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ELECTROMAGNETIC COIL AND DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERM BECAUSE THE VTM-4 LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE WAS INFORMED THE DIFFERENTIAL NEEDED TO BE REPALACED BECAUSE THERE WAS AN OPEN CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE LEFT ELECTROMAGNETCI CO AND THE DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM BEING ABLE TO DRIVE IN VTM-4 MODE.

IN ADDITION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD REMAIN STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCUR. THE CONTACT DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILITY ASSIST MODULE FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 171,000.

WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR'S ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AND MY VSA IDIOT LIGHT GOES ON SIMUTANEOUSLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I AM NOT TRYING TO BRAKE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT DOES IT ALL BY ITSELF EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR NOW. SPEED DOESN'T MATTER. I AM WORRIED I CAN NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL ON ICY ROADS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA MDX. AFTER SHIFTING INTO PARK, THE GEAR FAILED TO ENGAGE AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO ENGAGE THE GEAR BY ROCKING THE LEVER BACK AND FORTH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN MADE THE CONTACT AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V573000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), WHICH WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW ACURA MDX FROM BILL VINCE SHOWROOM IN BRIDGEWATER, NJ. I WAS EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE CARS PERFORMANCE UNTIL A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. WHEN THE CAR HIT 75,000 MILES, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION IN THE NEAR FUTURE.' THE SERVICE MANAGER DID NOT PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION AT THAT TIME. NOW, THE CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AS IT IS SLIPPING GEARS AND SOUNDS TERRIBLE WHEN THE CAR IS TRAVELING BETWEEN 25 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED ACURA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY ARE READY TO GIVE ME 50% OFF ON A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO FILL THE GASOLINE TANK RECENTLY, I COULD ONLY ADD .2 TO .3 GALLON AT TIME. THE GASOLINE CUTS OFF INTERMITTENTLY. I TOOK THE SUV TO MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP RECOMMENDATION WAS AS FOLLOWS: 1) REPLACE THE FILLER NECK, 2) REPLACE THE ORVR VAPER VALVE AND 3) POSSIBLY REPLACE THE GASOLINE TANK. THIS SUV HAS BEEN MAINTAINED, LOOKS AND DRIVES GREAT. IT IS ONE OWNER, HAS 187,000 MILES AND I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP UNTIL 250,000 MILES. *TR
ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATION SUDDENLY FROZE UP, RPMS SHOT UP TO 4000 -5000, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY TO AVOID BEING CRASHED INTO BY OTHER CARS. AFTER I PULLED OVER, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THEN RE-STARTED, SO I RESUMED DRIVING BUT AFTER DRIVING TWO MILES MY CAR DID THE SAME THING ONCE IT HIT 2500 RPMS. AGAIN I PULLED OVER. I RESTARTED MY CAR AGAIN AND SLOWLY DROVE MY CAR HOME. THE NEXT DAY, I CALLED AN ACURA DEALERSHIP, EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO A SERVICE PROVIDER. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSIS OVER THE PHONE AND SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT A RELEVANT RECALL. I THEN HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A NEARBY REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT REVERSE OR ACCELERATE. THE SERVICE MAN SAID HE THINKS THE TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN. I'M NOW READING HOW THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE '04 MDX. MY MOTHER CALLED ACURA TO SAY THAT I HAVE READ THAT THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH '04 MDXS BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT HELP AND WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS MAKE/MODEL HAVING ISSUES WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TORQUE CONVERTER. THE WOMAN SHE SPOKE WITH WAS VERY RUDE AND VERY DISMISSIVE. SAID MY CAR WAS TOO OLD FOR ACURA TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES AND THAT I HAD NEVER HAD THE CAR SERVICED (WHICH I HAVE.) SHE WAS VERY CONDESCENDING IN HER SPEECH TO MY MOTHER DESPITE THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM AND WHICH ALMOST KILLED ME. THEY SHOULD MAKE PEOPLE AWARE THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM IS ONLY THE "TIP OF THE ICEBERG" WITHIN A POTENTIALLY MUCH BROADER SCOPE PROBLEM. HAD I KNOWN, I SURE WOULD HAVE ADDRESSED THIS BEFORE ALMOST GETTING KILLED!! HOW MANY PEOPLE DIDN'T GET THEIR TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW THE BIG PICTURE?? *TR
THERE IS A SHUDDER AND VIBRATION BETWEEN GEARS 4 AND 5 WHEN DRIVING 40-50 MPH. THIS IS VERY COMMONLY REPORTED PROBLEM ON SEVERAL BLOGS AND PROBLEMS ARE ASCRIBED TO TORQUE CONVERTER. THE FREQUENCY OF SUCH OCCURENCE IS HIGH AND THE COST OF REPAIR CLOSE TO 2000 USD IS ALOS QUITE BURDENSOME FOR SUCH AN EXPENSIVE CAR. THERE IS AN ACURA TSB 05-024 FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT APPLIES TO EARLIER MODEL YEARS 2002, BUT ACURA TELLS ME THAT FOR 2004 IT DOES NOT APPLY. IT SEEMS VERY CLEAR THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED IN 2004 MY. I AM REQUESTING THE ACURA BE REQUIRED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS THEY HAVE IN EARLIER MODELS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE EVAP SYSTEM PURGE CONTROL VALVE HAD A CIRCUIT SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,500.
IT FELT LIKE MY TRANSMISSION HALTED. MY RPMS WENT ERRATIC, MY DRIVE WAS TUGGING, MY TRANSMISSION FEELS ROUGH NOW AND MAKES ME NERVOUS TO DRIVE. *TR
IM DRIVING 35MPH CITY LIMIT ENGINE MAKE LOUD NOISE AND RPM JUMP UP NEAR TO RED LINE CAR NOT MOVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET I STOP THE CAR TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND SEAT THERE FEW MINUTES LATER COP STOPPED BY HE ASK ME WHAT WAS WRONG? I TOLD HIM THE PROBLEM AND HE SAID YOUR TRANSMISSION GO BAD ON ME SO HE SAID GET IN THE CAR IM GOIN TO PUSH ME OFF THE STREET TO CONNER PARKING LOT AND TOLD ME HAVE TO TOW MY HOME. I READ WEB SITE A LOT OF ACURA OWNER HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND MANUFACTURE DID NOT DO ANY THING TO HELP THEM SO I FILE COMPLAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
I WAS MOVING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND BAM!...THE DROP OF TRANNY FLUID AND RADIATOR FLUID ON THE SPOT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME THIS WAS THE 4TH HONDA CAR THEY HAVE HAD WITH SAME PROBLEM, THEY FOUND OUT IN ALL CASES IT WAS THE PRESSURIZED HOSE CONNECTING THESE TWO IMPORTANT PARTS HAD CORRODED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. I HAVE BEEN HEARING MORE ABOUT THIS AND IT IS NOW DISTURBING TO ME. IN MY CASE MY TRANNY IS FINE AND ALL I NEEDED WAS A NEW RADIATOR AND ALL NEW FLUIDS. THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE AND THAT MAY HAVE SAVED THE TRANNY. GOT IT TOWED AND FIXED THE NEXT DAY BY TRUSTED SHOP EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALMOST 800 DOLLARS. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DELAY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL WHILE IDLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY WERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I WAS PULLING INTO DRIVE WAY WHEN I SHUT OFF TRUCK TOOK KEYS OUT, SHUT DOOR, AS GARAGE DOOR WAS OPENING. CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK... I OPENED DOOR TRIED TO PRESS ON EMERG. BRAKE WITH HAND AS IM RUNNING WITH VEHICLE AS IT IS ROLLING BACK, WOULDN'T STOP. I REALIZED THE GEAR WASN'T IN PARK, IT WAS IN REVERSE, BUT WITH NO KEYS I TRIED TO PUT GEAR INTO PARK, WOULDN'T MOVE WITHOUT KEYS, I HOPPED IN, PUT KEYS IN IGNITION AND TURNED CAR ON, AS I WAS PUTTING THE GEAR IN PARK, THE VEHICLE REARED FORWARD AND I PRESSED ON BREAKS BUT IT WOULDN'T STOP. THE CAR WAS MOVING FORWARD AS I WAS PRESSING ON THE BREAKS, NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT DID NOT STOP UNTIL I RAN INTO THE GARAGE DOOR AS IT WAS COMING BACK DOWN, AND BOTH MYSELF WERE HALF WAY INTO MY SON'S GARAGE DOOR, WALL, AND SHELVING, ITEMS, ALL DAMAGED BY MY ROLLING BACKWARD ACURA......BECAUSE THE CAR WAS IN A FAST SPEED, I TRIED TO AVOID GOING STRAIGHT INTO THE GARAGE, TO AVOID GOING INTO THE BEDROOM, SO I SWERVED INWARD TOWARD THE WALL... THE GARAGE DOOR WOULD NOT LIFT UP OFF THE TRUCK, SO I ASKED MY GRANDSON TO PUSH ON THE SWITCH ON WALL WHILE I LIFT ON THE GARAGE DOOR, AS WE WORKED TOGETHER WITH NO KEYS IN IGNITION, MOTOR OFF, ON THE COUNT OF 5,4,3,2,1.....I LIFT, HE PUSHES, AND GUESS WHAT......THERE GOES M CAR.....STARTS ROLLING BACK...RIGHT INTO MY SON'S [PARKED...VEHICLE....DAMAGE...3 CLAIMS IN ONE DAY.....3 DEDUCTIBLES IN ONE DAY......WHEN I CALLED INSUR...I WAS ASKED IF VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE?... WHEN I STARTED IT. IT MADE A LOUD ROARING SOUND AND WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE.......THEN I FOUND OUT A RECALL WAS OUT ON MY VEHICLE.... AND I HATE TO THINK THAT ALL THE TIMES I DROVE IN THE VEHICLE WITH MY GRANDSON.....I JUST HAD 2 BACK SURGERIES AND 2 KNEE REPLACEMENTS,... AS I WAS RUNNING WITH MY VEHICLE , I INJURED MY BACK AND KNEE AND I CANNOT WORK FOR A WHILE.. ALL THANKS TO ACURA... *TR
SAME AS ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT FUEL BACK FLOWING DURING A FILL UP. ALSO, CAN'T FILL UP THE TANK BECAUSE THE GAS PUMP KEEPS CUTTING OFF DURING FILL UP. TAKES OVER 15 MINUTES JUST TO TRY AND FILL UP THE TANK AND THAT IS NOT ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL. OBVIOUSLY ACURA HAS A 'KNOWN' PROBLEM WITH THE TANK BUT THEY WON'T ADMIT IT TO THE PUBLIC BECAUSE THEN THEY WILL HAVE TO FIX IT AT THEIR COST. THEY ARE HOPING THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO PUMP MONEY INTO USELESS REPAIRS, THEN THEY MAY ADDRESS THE ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA MDX. DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THERE WAS A LEAK ON BOTH FRONT FLOORBOARDS AND UNDERNEATH THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS AN ACCUMULATION OF MOISTURE AND MOLD. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A HALT, THE CONTACT'S FOOT SLIPPED FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL ONTO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DUE TO THE MOISTURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
I HAD NOTICED A SHUDDERING AT 1200-1400 RPM. DEALER SAID IT WAS LIKELY THE TORQUE CONVERTER. RECOMMENDED NOT DOING ANYTHING AT THIS TIME. IN THE PAST MONTH, I'VE HAD TWO OCCASIONS WHILE IN DRIVE FROM A STOP, WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS THE CAR DID NOT MOVE; THE ENGINE JUST REVVED. THE FIRST TIME I PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, SHUT OFF THE CAR. I RESTARTED AND ALL WAS WELL. THIS NEXT TIME I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE AT ABOUT 10-15 MPH, WHEN THE CAR REVVING RESPONSE TO MY PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, BUT DID NOT ACCELERATE. AS IF IT HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. I SWITCHED INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE, AND IT RE-ENGAGED. LOTS OF SIMILAR CONCERNS ON MY INVESTIGATION ON THE INTERNET. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO ACURA/HONDA, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL OR A FIX? *TR
THERE IS A GRIND/ ROARING SOUND WHEN I AM GOING ABOUT 40 MPH. IT DEFINITELY SOUNDS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION. I RESEARCHED IT ON LINE AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT THOUSAND OF PEOPLE LIKE MY SELF ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES, BUT HONDA HAS NOT RECALLED THESE CARS. MY QUESTION IS DOES SOMEONE'S TRANSMISSION HAVE TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND POSSIBLY A FATALITY BEFORE THIS ISSUE IS HANDLED. MOST PEOPLE HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE, SOME AFTER THREATENING LAWSUITS HAVE RECEIVED SOME ASSISTANCE. WHAT CAN WE DO? *TR
AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PUT GASOLINE INTO MY VEHICLE (IT STILL HAD 1/4 OF A TANK), WITH THE NOZZLE ON AUTOMATIC (AS OPPOSED TO MANUAL), AFTER ABOUT FIVE SECONDS, THE PUMP SHUT OFF AND GASOLINE SPEWED OUT OF THE CAR AT THE INTAKE LOCATION. I WAS SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE. THINKING THAT I HAD PLACED THE NOZZLE INCORRECTLY, I TRIED IT AGAIN WITH THE SAME RESULT. I WAS AGAIN SPLASHED WITH GASOLINE. I THEN WONDERED IF THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE GAS PUMP AND I MOVED TO A DIFFERENT PUMP AT THE SAME STATION. AGAIN, I HAD THE SAME RESULT, BUT I WAS SPLASHED LESS AS I HAD ANTICIPATED WHAT ULTIMATELY HAPPENED. I TOLD MY HUSBAND WHAT HAD HAPPENED, AND THE NEXT DAY, HE WENT TO THE STATION WITH ME. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIBBLE SOME GASOLINE INTO THE TANK WITH THE NOZZLE ON MANUAL. I LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THE SAME ISSUE WITH SEVERAL VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. ON 12/21/13, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM OF THE ISSUE, AND I CALLED ACURA CUSTOMER CARE TO REPORT IT. IT WAS SEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 12/22/13. TWO PARTS WERE REPLACED -- "CANISTER ASSY" AND "MOD. CANISTER D" (NOT THE GAS TANK) ON 12/23/13, AS THE PARTS HAD FAILED FUNCTIONAL TESTING. I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 2:45 PM ON 12/23/13, DROVE TO A GAS STATION, PUT THE NOZZLE IN THE INTAKE LOCATION AND HAD THE EXACT SAME RESULT AS BEFORE. GASOLINE SPEWED OUT AND SPRAYED ME AGAIN. I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS ON A COUPLE OF LEVELS: THE SPILLED/SPEWED GASOLINE POSES A FIRE HAZARD FOR ME, THE VEHICLE, THE GAS STATION, AND THOSE PEOPLE AROUND ME WHO ARE ALSO FILLING UP, AND HAVING GASOLINE SPILLED ON ME IS AN OBVIOUS HEALTH HAZARD. *TR
THROUGH OUT THIS YEAR I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO FILL MY GAS TANK SEVERAL TIMES AND THE HOSE KEEPS TRIPPING OFF AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS. I CAN'T PUT MORE THAN TWO OR THREE GALLONS IN MY CAR AND IT TAKES FOREVER TO DO THAT. GAS RUNS OUT OF THE TANK ON TO THE SIDE OF THE CAR AND THE TIRES. THIS PAST SUMMER I HAD THE ACURA DEALER REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE A SOLUTION. I PAID ABOUT $150.00. *TR
I PULLED UP MY DRIVEWAY WHICH HAS UPHILL GRADE THEN A FLAT AREA AND WAS IN MY GARAGE WHEN I NOTICED THAT I HAD THE KEYS IN MY HAND. I TURNED AROUND AND NOTICED MY CAR WAS DRIFTING BACK DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO JUMP BACK IN THE CAR TO HIT THE BRAKES BUT THOUGHT BETTER OF IT AS IT WAS GAINING MORE SPEED. I LET GO F THE FRONT DOOR AND WATCHED AS IT VEERED OFF THE DRIVEWAY AND HIT A TREE AND LANDSCAPING ROCK AND END OF DRIVEWAY. WHAT IT . SO I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE THE CAR WHILE STILL IN THE DRIVE POSITION. I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE UNTIL FEBRUARY . ACURA HAS NOT BEEN JUDICIOUS IN THEIR EFFORT TO FIX THE DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED TO MY VEHICLE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
MY CAR MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHILE ACCELERATING AT AROUND 30 - 40 MPH. I SHOWED TO THE ACURA DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THIS IS DUE TO A BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THIS HAS TO REPAIRED WITH MY ON MY EXPENSE AS I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MOST OF THE MDXS AND VARIOUS ONLINE FORUMS HAVE MENTIONED THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA MDX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE SPILLED TO THE GROUND WHILE REFUELING. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V541000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 88,050.
INTERNAL LEAK IN RADIATOR CAUSING A LEAK OF COOLANT TO TRANSMISSION FLUID AND VICE VERSA, DAMAGING TRANSMISSION AND RENDERING CAR NOT DRIVABLE WITHIN MOMENTS.
I WAS TOLD MY RADIATOR BLADDER EXPLODED CAUSING ALL FLUIDS TO MIX, THUS I NOW NEED A NEW RADIATOR AND A NEW TRANSMISSION, COST OF REPAIR IS $4600. MY 04 MDX HAS 137K THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN, THERE ARE NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS SAME ISSUE ALL OVER THE INTERNET ACURA FORUMS, WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH THE RADIATORS. I NEED TO HAVE THE RADIATOR REPLACED, ALL FLUIDS DRAINED AND THEN FLUSHED 5-8 TIMES TO ENSURE ALL THE CONTAMINATION IS GONE, THEN NEW FLUIDS PUT BACK IN ALONG WITH A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. THERE HAS TO BE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, PLEASE HELP! *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER TWICE ON MY 2004 MDX, WITH A THIRD TIME BEING NEEDED NOW. THE REPLACEMENT FAILED WITHIN 2500 MILES AND THE NEW REPLACEMENT IS FAILING AS WELL. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE MOUNTS WHEN THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED THE FIRST TIME. THREE TIMES IS ENTIRELY TOO MANY. I AM NOT REPLACING DUE TO DEALER REQUIRING ME PAY. ACURA/HONDA ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE WHICH IS CAUSED BY TORQUE CONVERTER, PCM AND SOMETIMES THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS AND IT'S ODD THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET, WHICH CAN BE FATAL IF THE TRANSMISSION FAILS ON THE ROAD. *TR
BACKREST PORTION OF DRIVER SEAT HEATS TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH & UNBEARABLE TO TOUCH(EVEN WITH MULTIPLE LAYERS ON IN WINTER) TEMPERATURE WHEN SEAT HEATER TURNED ON HIGH SETTING. THE HEATER HAS CAUSED A HOT ENOUGH TEMPERATURE TO BURN THROUGH THE SEAT. THERE IS A GUMSTICK SIZE BURN IN THE PORTION OF THE SEAT WHERE IT GETS THE HOTTEST(COINCIDES ANATOMICALLY WITH DRIVER'S MIDDLE TO UPPER RIGHT SIGHT OF BACK). THE HEATER BURNED THROUGH THE EXTERNAL LEATHER COVERING WHICH IS NOW BLACK FROM THE BURN. ALSO THE LEATHER IS HARDENED AROUND THAT AREA FROM THE HIGH TEMPERATURE AND FEELS LIKE BURNED, HARD PLASTIC. *TR
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED. RECENTLY NOTICED BACKREST PORTION OF DRIVER SEAT OVERHEATS WHEN SEAT HEATER TURNED ON HIGH SETTING AND SMELLS LIKE BURNT POPCORN. THE HEATER HAS CAUSED A HOT ENOUGH TEMPERATURE TO BURN THROUGH THE LEATHER SEAT CREATING AN APPROXIMATELY 2MM SIZE BURN IN THE DRIVER'S BACKREST. I ALSO NOTICED BROWN DISCOLORATION IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BASE AND WHAT APPEARS TO BE A SIMILAR PROBLEMATIC AREA ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BASE WITH A HARDENED LEATHER AREA ABOUT THE SIZE OF A 3X3 POST-IT NOTE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ABOUT 35 MPH AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE RADIATOR FLUID HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, INITIALLY I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND HAD THE CONTAMINATED FLUID FLUSHED AND REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. I DROVE THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS THINKING THAT HAD TAKEN CARE OF THE PROBLEM- IT DID NOT!! I HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 103,764 MILES. THE TOTAL COST TO ME FOR BOTH REPAIRS WAS $4519.09. NOW I AM FINDING OUT THAT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AND I FEEL THAT ACURA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL OF THE 2004 ACURAS AND SHOULD PAY OR IN THE VERY LEAST HELP WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. *TR
OVER A PERIOD OF TIME, BEGINNING ABOUT THE DATE AND VEHICLE MILEAGE STATED ABOVE, I EXPERIENCED A SHUDDER AND CORRESPONDING NOISE AS THE TRANSMISSION TRIED TO SHIFT GEARS. SIMILAR TO THE SENSATION OF DRIVING ACROSS CLOSELY-SPACED RUMBLE STRIPS, THE SHUDDER AND NOISE SEEMED TO VARY IN LENGTH OF TIME DEPENDING ON SPEED. THIS OCCURRED MANY TIMES BEFORE I BECAME CONCERNED AND STARTED RESEARCHING DURING WHICH I FOUND DOZENS OF SIMILAR ACCOUNTS IN VARIOUS ON-LINE FORUMS. EVENTUALLY I TOOK MY MDX TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSIS. DISAPPOINTINGLY SIMILAR TO MANY ACCOUNTS I READ ON THE INTERNET, AND DESPITE MY DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM, THE ACURA DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, FURTHER NOTING ALL 19 ITEMS ON THEIR MULTI-POINT INSPECTION REPORT AS "CHECKED AND OK", INCLUDING THE TRANSMISSION. SOON THEREAFTER, THE DRIVE TRAIN COMPLETELY FROZE UP AS I DISCOVERED AFTER STARTING THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY (THANKFULLY, NOT WHILE DRIVING THE CAR). DESPITE USING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON (COINCIDENTALLY -?- THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL FOR WHICH I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM ACURA), THE CAR REMAINS IMMOBILE BECAUSE I AM UNABLE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND PUT IT INTO GEAR TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. MY LOCAL ACURA DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE TO MY NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND CALLS ATTEMPTING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER STATED THE WATER PUMP, TIMING BELT, AIR CONDITIONER, MOTOR MOUNT, FRONT AXLE SEAL, REAR HVAC BLOWER TRANSISTOR ALL FAILED. UPADTED 03/11/15

DESPITE ACURA'S KNOWLEDGE OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES BASED ON AN ACURA SERVICE BULLETIN ALERT, WE INCURRED $5500 IN EXPENSES/DAMAGE TO OUR VEHICLE.WE HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER/TRANSMISSION PARTS PREVIOUSLY&ACURA HAS AVOIDED TAKING FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM IN WHICH MANY CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN FULLY REIMBURSED FOR THIS DAMAGE. WE ARE ISSUING THIS COMPLAINT&REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR OUR EXPENSES DUE TO ACURA'S FULL KNOWLEDGE OF THIS RECURRING SITUATION,THEIR NEGLIGENCE IN ALERTING CONSUMERS&THEIR NEGLECT IN RESOLVING THE REPAIR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES.WE WOULD REQUEST THAT ACURA BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN NOTIFYING ALL ACURA OWNERS OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN/RECALL PERTAINING TO THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF MY 2004 ACURA MDX TOURING PACKAGE. IT JUST TURNED 200,000 MILES BUT THIS GAS PUMPING PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR SEVERAL YEARS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PUMP GAS, FUEL REPEATEDLY BACKS UP IN THE NECK AND TRIPS OFF THE GAS PUMP, MAKING A ROUTINE STOP AT THE GAS STATION A NIGHTMARE. YOU CAN ONLY PUMP AT THE LOWEST SPEED AND EVEN THEN THE GAS PUMP STILL TRIPS OFF BECAUSE FUEL BACKS UP TO THE TOP OF THE NECK. FROM ON LINE RESEARCH, I SUSPECT THE ISSUE TO BE A FAULTY ANTI SIPHONING DEVICE (ASD) WHICH CLOSES OFF IN THE NECK AND PREVENTS FUEL FROM PASSING, THEREBY BACKING UP AND TRIPPING OFF THE GAS PUMP. IT CAN TAKE 30 MINUTES OR MORE TO FILL THE TANK WITH GAS...THAT IS IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH PATIENCE TO STAND THERE THAT LONG. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT REASONABLE AND HONDA SHOULD RECALL THIS MODEL AND MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. WITH THE OTHER MULTIPLE COMPLAINT ENTRIES FOR THE SAME ISSUE THERE IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ONLY SOLUTION TO REPAIR THE ASD IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE GAS TANK, WHICH IS ROUGHLY $1000. I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THIS ISSUE BE ADDRESSED FOR EVERYONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
