TRAVELING AT 60 MPH WHEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION "SLIPPED" OUT OF GEAR AND AUTOMOBILE DECELERATED RAPIDLY TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH CAUSING VEHICLE'S RPM TO GO OVER REDLINE. MR
BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON CALL. THEY TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS SEEMED TO MAKE THE PROBLEM BETTER FOR A WHILE. FINALLY IT GOT WORSE AND WORSE. AT 69,000 MILES I TOOK THE CAR INTO A DIFFERENT DEALER. THEY WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A RE-MANUFACTURED ONE FROM ACURA.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A RAPID STOP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND PERFORMED MAINTENANCE. THE CONSUMER IS NOW EXPERIENCING SEVERE "SLIPPAGE" OF TRANSMISSION WHEN ACCELERATING. MR THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. SCC
PURCHASED 2002 ACURA BRAND NEW. DURING AN ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY DURING CRASH. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHEN NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT DURING CRASH. ACURA 3.2 TL WAS FEATURED TO BE A SAFE VEHICLE IN ADVERTISEMENTS. IT HAD FRONT AND SIDE AIRBAGS. ACURA IS COMBINING TARGET MARKETS FOR APPROACH TO SAFETY, BEST VALUE FOR HIGH END CAR, UPPER-END DEMOGRAPHICS. FOR A PRICE OF OVER $28,000, VEHICLE SHOULD BE BE FLAWLESS. LET THE BUYER BEWARE. CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. *AK

WHILE IN MOTION, CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *JG
NO APPARENT EXTERNAL DAMAGE (APART FROM A TINY GRAIN-OF-SAND SIZE INDENTATION THAT COULD BE PART OF THE CRACK ITSELF. NO RECOLLECTION OF BEING STRUCK BY A STONE. LOCATION OF CRACK NEAR AIR VENT AT DRIVER LOWER SIDE SUGGESTS TEMPERATURE CHANGE: DEFROSTER OR A/C MAY HAVE CAUSED THE CRACK. *AK
BRAKES FELT SPONGY, PEDAL WOULD SINK TO FLOOR. MASTER CYLINDER FOUND DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED UNDER WARRENTY.
TTHINK TWICE AND LONG BEFORE BUYING A 2000 ACURA 3.2 TL.WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS OF THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. WE AND THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING ISSUES:ON SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2001, AT 20129 MILES, THE FIRST OWNER TOOK THE AUTOMOBILE TO AN ACURA SERVICE DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THE SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) INDICATOR LIGHT HAD COME ON.THE SHOP REPLACED THE 'OPDS UNIT' BUT PROVIDED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE WARNING INDICATOR HAD COME ON. AT 26467 MILES, THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT HAD COME ON.BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED, BUT NO REASON FOR THE LIGHT'S ILLUMINATING WAS GIVEN.WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH AN ODOMETER READING OF 25807 MILES.SHORTLY THEREAFTER, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON.AT 26467 MILES WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AN ACURA DEALER.SHOP PERSONNEL CHECKED THE SRS INDICATOR AND CONSEQUENTLY ORDERED YET ANOTHER 'OPDS' UNIT.WHILE IN THE SHOP, THE SEAL AROUND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD,WHICH HAD PUCKERED UP,ALSO WAS REPAIRED.SOME THREE WEEKS LATER WE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE OPDS UNIT REPLACED.NO EXPLANATION WAS GIVEN FOR THE PROBLEM.IN THE INTERIM,THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAD COME ON,AND THE BRAKE RESERVIOR CAP WAS CHANGED AS WELL.LESS THAN TWO MONTHS HAVE PASSED:THE SRS LIGHT IS AGAIN CONSTANTLY ON.WE ARE ABOUT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT, AND ALSO HAVE THE TRUNK LIGHT INSPECTED, SINCE IT DOESN'T WORK.THE TRUNK LIGHT PROBLEM IS NOT DUE TO A BLOWN FUSE OR BURNED-OUT BULB; I CHECKED THAT MYSELF.HAVING THE SRS WARNING LIGHT COME ON,TOGETHER WITH THE DEALER'S INABILITY TO EXPLAIN OR RECTIFY THE SITUATION,PUTS ONE IN SOMETHING OF A QUANDRY:IS IT A FALSE WARNING,WILL THE AIRBAG(S) DEPLOY IN A CRASH? OR IS IT AN INDICATION OF A PROBLEM AND WILL THE AIRBAG(S) NOT DEPLOY WHEN NEEDED? THE ACURA 3.2 TL IS NOT AN INEXPENSIVE CAR, AND ONE WOULD EXPECT IT TO REQUIRE MINIMUM ATTENTION WHILE PROVIDING A HIGH DEGREE OF RELIABILITY AND SAFETY. IT DOESN'T.
WHEN DRIVING HAD CELL PHONE ON, AND INTERIOR AIRBAG LIGHT WILL COME ON WARNING FOR DEPLOYMENT OF AIRBAG. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
MANUFACTURER UNABLE TO REPAIR DEFECTIVE SRS (AIRBAG) SYSTEM AFTER MORE THAN 8 ATTEMPTS. DECEPTIVE PRACTICES USED BY DEALER REPRESENTATIVE ( LIED ABOUT ROOT CAUSE EVEN THOUGH TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS HAD BEEN ISSUED ON THE PROBLEM). *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, GOING UP TO 110 MPH AND WOULD HAVE CONTINUED HIGHER. CONSUMER HAD TO STAND ON BRAKES TO GET VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN TO 70 MPH, WHEN SHE TURNED VEHICLE OFF. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THROTTLE PLATE COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS DEFECT, AND THAT COMPONENT WAS CURRENTLY ON BACKORDER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
BRAKES EXHIBITED VIBRATION DURING BRAKING; APPEARS ROTORS WENT OUT OF ROUND PREMATURELY; DEALERSHIP GAVE "1 TIME" GOODWILL GESTURE AND MACHINED ROTORS AND REPLACED PADS ON FRONT BRAKES AT NO CHARGE. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN TURNED OFF THE AIR BAG LIGHT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V080000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

AIR BAGS DEPLOYED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND ONLY GOING APPROX 5 MPH. AIR BAG REPLACEMENT WAS 80% OF REPAIR BILL NO OTHER MAJOR DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMING ON. VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER SHOP ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL REOCCURRING. *AK CHECK THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY BUT GOES AWAY AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE. *YH
PASSSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER LEAVES A SLANTED IMPRINT ON GLASS THAT IMPAIRS DRIVER'S VISION. THIS IMPRINT COMES FROM RUBBER. CONSUMER FEELS IT IS A POOR DESIGN FROM MANUFACTURER. *AK *SLC
I PURCHASED MY TL BRAND NEW IN 2000. SINCE THEN I HAVE IT IN THE REPAIR SHOP 7 TIMES FOR THE SAMETHING. BELOW IS A SUMMARY OF EACH ATTEMPTED REPAIR: *AK THE 1ST ATTEMPT TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (NOV 9 2000) THREE MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW, THE COIL AND FUEL INJECTOR WAS CHECKED. A SHORT WAS FOUND IN THE WIREHOOK (FALSE CODE). THE 2ND ATTEMPT TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (DEC 13 2000) WAS A CODE P0305 #5 CYLINDER MISS FIRE AND THEY REPLACED 5 INJECTOR WITH 4 INJECTOR THE THIRD ATTEMPT TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (DEC 5 2001) WAS THE REPLACEMENT OF A LINEAR SOLENOID, GASKET AND O-RING. THE FOURTH ATTEMPT TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (NOV 14 2002) INJECTOR #4 WAS MISS FIRING. FUEL CLEANING AND ERG VALVE REPLACEMENT. CLEARED ALL CODES AND LIGHT WENT OFF UNTIL I DROVE IT HOME AND THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE FIFTH ATTEMPT TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (NOV 27, 2002) FOUND RECURRING CODES P-304 AND P-306. REPAIRED ALL IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. UPDATED INJECTOR HARNESS "BUSS" CONNECTORS. THE SIXTH ATTEMPT (JULY 28, 2003) TO REPAIR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SRS LIGHT. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAUSE #P304 MISFIRE. SRS LIGHT FOUND FAULTY OPDS UNIT. ELECTRICAL RELATED. ORDERED AND REPLACED NEW UNIT. THE SEVENTH ATTEMPT WAS ANOTHER MIS-FIRE ON #4 AND 5 CYLINDERS. I HAD FILED A BETTER BUSINESS BUREA CLAIM (BETWEEN 6TH AND 7TH ATTEMPT) AND JUST SO HAPPENED THE DISTRICT MGR FOUND OUT ABOUT MY CLAIM WHEN MY CAR WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 7TH ATTEMPT REPAIR. HE GAVE ORDERS TO STOP ALL REPAIRS ON THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE BBB CLAIM. I AM NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF HONDA MEDIATION AND BBB. I MAY BE OFFERED TRADE ASSISTANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR VALUE PRICE FROM MANUFACTURER VIA BBB. THE CAR IS UNFIXABLE AND DEEMED A "LEMON". I CAN NOT SELL THIS CAR PRIVATELY IN GOOD CONSCIENCE. I HOPE ACURA CAN ADMIT IT IS A LEMOM AND PUT ME INTO A NEW VEHICLE --IT'S TO THEIR ADVANTAGE.
VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE DUE TO GAS & BRAKE PEDALS TOO CLOSE WHEN ONE OR THE OTHER IS IN USE. IF FOOT NOT ON BRAKE PEDAL CORRECTLY IT WOULD UNINTENTIONALLY CAUSE SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN VEHICLE. HAS HAPPENED TWICE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP & MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND CAUSE & INDICATED NO MECHANIC PROBLEM.*AK MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED BECAUSE OF AIR FOUND IN THE SYSTEM. *YH

VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO 2 DEALERS 3 TIMES FOR NOT STARTING. DEALER CANNOT FIND CAUSE. VEHICLE WILL NOT START INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER HAS FILED AN APPEAL UNDER LEMON LAW. *AK

I HAD A TOTAL OF 6 TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED IN MY ACURA TL 2000 3.2 LITER. WHY IS TOYOTA GETTING SO MUCH PRESS AND TROUBLE AND HONDA DIDN'T. HONDA WOULDN'T ADDRESS THE ISSUE AND MY RESALE VALUE WAS HORRIBLE. I ENCOUNTERED THE PROBLEM AFTER BUYING THE CAR AT 14,000 MILES. I AM CONSIDERING SENDING THIS TO ABC NEWS. THEY WANTED THE STORY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WHEN I E-MAILED THEM. I THINK I WILL FOLLOW UP NOW. WHY DO TOYOTA OWNERS GET HELP BUT ACURA OWNERS DO NOT. THE RECOMMENDATIONS BY YOUR AGENCY DIDN'T PROTECT ACURA OWNERS FROM POTENTIAL DEADLY CONSEQUENCES NOR FINANCIAL LOSSES. I SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON THIS PROBLEM. YOUR REMEDY WAS INSULTING AND THE LAWSUIT WAS A JOKE. *TR
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AND DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, RESULTING IN MINOR CHEST INJURIES. MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK
SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED 5 TIMES SINCE JANUARY 2000.*AK ALSO THE DRIVER SEAT BELT LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT WAS REPLACEDSTEERING COLUM WAS REPLACED, THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED DUE TO HEAVY CORROSION.*JB
WAS DRIVING ON WET PARKWAY & STARTED TO APPLY ABS BRAKES SLOWLY, THE ABS BRAKES FAILED TO CATCH & VEHICLE HYDROPLANED. IT HIT AN EMBANKMENT & THEN SPUN AROUND. DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES & WAS HOSPITALIZED. AIR BAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. VEHICLE TOTALED . ONLY HAD 500 MILES ON IT. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED TWICE. THE CONSUMER HEARD THIS WAS A RESULT OF POORLY DESIGNED AND POORLY MANUFACTURED BEARING SURFACES AND CLUTCH PLATE SURFACES IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. *BF THE CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY. *NM
LEFT REARVIEW MIRROR BY DESIGN IS MOUNTED AT EYE LEVEL OBSCURING THE DRIVERS VISION TO THE LEFT WHEN MAKING LEFT HAND TURNS, THE RIGHT MIRROR ALSO OBSCURE VISION BUT TO A LESSER DEGREE. NLM.
DEFECTIVE INTAKE MANIFOLD IS CAUSING THE FUEL TO BOIL, RESULTING IN VEHICLE STALLING. DEALER HAS SEEN VEHICLE, AND HAS NO SOLUTION. *AK

WHEN PEDAL WAS APPLIED IT FELT SPUNGY AND SOFT. WHILE IN A STOP POSITION AT A LIGHT, BRAKES DEPRESSED. PEDAL FADES AWAY--TO KEEP STILL, MORE PRESSURE HAD TO BE APPLIED. OWNER IS AFRAID THAT BRAKE FAILURE COULD OCCUR. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *ML

WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS SINCE 15,000 MILES AND HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES TO FIX THE PROBLEM, ONLY TO HEAR THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE HESITATION OR SLIPPING WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS, HAS GOTTEN SO BAD, WE ARE AFRAID TO JUMP OUT IN TRAFFIC. ON TWO OCCASIONS THE TRANSMISSION HAS LOCKED UP IN SECOND GEAR CAUSING US TO PULL OVER, PUT IT IN PARK PRIOR TO PROCEEDING. A FAIR AMOUNT OF INTERNET RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THE A LARGE NUMBER OF TL & CL OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED TRANSMISSION FAILURES. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR A $32, 000 CAR.*AK
ON MY 2000 ACURA 3.2TL IS SLIPPING AT 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THIS OCCURS ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE TRANSMISSON HAS NO FAILURES AT ANY OTHER SPEEDS OR GEARS.
