This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.

The vehicle is experiencing multiple system malfunctions involving the engine performance, fuel system, and electronic throttle control, including engine shaking while idling, activation of the check engine light, a “start/stop unavailable” message, limp mode (inability to switch between driving modes), and illumination of the electronic throttle control warning light. One dealership suggested the issue may be related to an open fuel pump recall after noting that previously replaced spark plugs were heavily carbon-fouled, indicating excessive fuel combustion; however, another dealership diagnosed the engine as “scored” and recommended major repair. This diagnosis is disputed, as an independent mechanic performed a borescope inspection and reported no visible internal engine damage. The issue is intermittent—some days the vehicle operates normally, while other days it becomes undrivable. This creates a safety risk, as the vehicle may unexpectedly enter limp mode, limiting acceleration and drivability in situations such as merging or navigating traffic. I have not been involved in any accidents related to this issue and avoid driving the vehicle when symptoms are present. The vehicle has been inspected by both a dealership and an independent mechanic, but not by police or insurance representatives. Warning lights and symptoms, including the check engine light, electronic throttle control light, and start/stop warning, began appearing prior to the drivability failure and around the same time I received notice of the fuel pump recall. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
the vehicle has read off warnings seconds from simply stopping and cutting off in traffic. this has happened at least two times now. it may say full throttle service and flash lights before simply slowing down and the check engine light flashing while on the highway unable to speed up no matter how far down on the gas pedal I push. has been taken to dealer several times. problems started soon after purchasing vehicle. On 3/1/2026 while leaving church service, my family and I were on a major highway with the speed limit at 65 mph. The vehicle just slowed down without giving any power and could not get it up to the speed to continue with traffic. This vehicle could put me and my family at risk for a possible dangerous situation.
I was driving on the highway and my car starts sputtering, I figured I pull over and turn my car off and on. My car seemed fine and I continued to drive home from work. As soon as I got off the highway my car completely shut off mid ride, stalls out and my steering wheel locked up. I was able to get my car turned back on and get back home. Filled with anxiety at least. Luckily I have a code reader in my car as soon as I pulled into my driveway and the codes showing where P008A which is directly related to a fuel pump/ fuel delivery issue. This happened on February 28th. I have been scared to drive the car since
The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle unexpectedly sputtered and then lost motive power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V586000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the failure could not be duplicated and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 173,000.
While driving my Alfa Romeo, the vehicle experienced a significant malfunction involving the engine and power-train system. The vehicle will not accelerate properly and repeatedly goes into limp mode, resulting in a sudden and severe loss of power, especially while driving on the highway. The engine warning light is illuminated, and the vehicle hesitates, jerks, and fails to respond. This malfunction created a direct safety risk to me and other drivers on the road. The loss of acceleration occurred while traveling at highway speeds, making it difficult to merge, maintain traffic flow, or avoid surrounding vehicles. The problem has been reproduced multiple times, and the vehicle consistently enters limp mode when attempting to accelerate. The issue has been observed during normal driving conditions and does not appear to be a one-time event. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection by the manufacturer, dealer, insurance representative, or any required agency. At this time, the vehicle has not yet been formally inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance company, but I am prepared to provide access for evaluation. No warning lights and symptoms prior to the complete failure.
My 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia, VIN [XXX] , is currently disabled and inoperable at the authorized dealer, Alfa Romeo Fiat of Daytona (Service Advisor: Kevin Chapman). The vehicle is subject to the active and known Safety Recall 93C (Low-Pressure Fuel Pump). My vehicle is experiencing a total loss of motive power and engine stall, which is the exact safety hazard described in the recall. Furthermore, the initial failure of the low-pressure fuel system appears to have caused secondary consequential damage to the expensive High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP), and the vehicle is also exhibiting a severe and recurring electrical defect (new battery dying, random dash warnings/brake lights flashing). The manufacturer, FCA/Stellantis (Customer Care Case #XXX...), and the dealer are engaging in a runaround to deny basic safety recall provisions: 1. Refusal to Cover Consequential Damage: FCA Customer Care stated that if the issue is 'not the 93C recall then it will all be customer pay,' which conflicts with NHTSA guidelines requiring the manufacturer to remedy the primary defect and all damage proximately caused by it. 2. Refusal to Provide Loaner/Rental Car: FCA stated the loaner is up to the dealer, and the dealer stated it is up to the diagnostic. This runaround has created an unreasonable delay in the repair of a federally mandated safety recall, leaving the owner without transportation for a disabled, unsafe vehicle. I am requesting NHTSA intervention to compel FCA/Stellantis to: a) Authorize a complimentary rental car/loaner until the vehicle is fully repaired. b) Provide a formal commitment that all damage proven to be a direct, proximate consequence of the 93C fuel pump failure will be covered at no cost. Odometer Fraud. The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V586000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact also received notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V510000 (Air Bags, Seat Belts), and the recall remedy was available; however, the dealer was charging to complete the recall repair. The dealer had been in possession of the vehicle for approximately a month. Upon picking up the vehicle, it was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The mileage at the time of the dealer drop off was 91,595. The mileage at pickup was 60,000. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but did not offer further assistance.
I am filing a complaint in regard to recall 93c for my 2017 Alfa Romeo. The dealership/manufacturer has failed to provide me with a fix, parts or even just a loaner car due to the safety hazard. My car has gone limp mode several times on the highway at speeds of 70mph. This is unacceptable.
Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally report a concern regarding the handling of reimbursement under Safety Recall 93C (NHTSA 25V-586) for my 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. On March 11, 2025, several months before the recall was announced, I paid $3,995.59 out of pocket at Foreign Cars Italia Charlotte to repair severe driveability issues, including: Loss of engine power while driving “Electronic throttle control” and “check engine” warnings Difficulty accelerating, reduced fuel flow, and stalling risk These symptoms are directly consistent with the defect described in Safety Recall 93C, which involves the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM) and the risk of power loss due to heat-related fuel flow restriction. I recently received a recall notification letter for the 93C issued in September 2025, I contacted Alfa Romeo Customer Care and filed for reimbursement (Reference Number [XXX]). Despite providing full documentation — including the paid invoice and recall notice — my claim was denied. Their written response (attached) stated: “The vehicle is outside of its warranties… Parts and labor that were completed are not related to any recall including 93C.” This reasoning conflicts with the federal reimbursement provisions under 49 CFR §573.13, which require manufacturers to reimburse owners for pre-recall repairs that address the same defect, regardless of warranty status. My repair addressed the same malfunction now acknowledged as a safety defect, and I bore the full cost before the recall was publicly announced. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter and encourage Stellantis / FCA US LLC to re-evaluate my claim in accordance with recall reimbursement regulations. This situation raises both a consumer fairness issue and a safety concern, as the vehicle exhibited the same dangerous loss-of-power condition months before the manufacturer recognized it as a defect. Thank you for your time and assistance in reviewing this case. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U
Vehicle completely lost power and quite running in the middle of the desert in Arizona. This relates to Saftey Recall 93c. I had to have the car towed and repaired in Scottsdale, AZ. I have been told that this repair (which was expensive) might not remedy the problem and it could reoccur. It's been over six months since the recall was issued and yet no remedy is available and I have not received reimbursement for the repairs I had to have done to get my vehicle running. I think six months is enough time given that I cannot trust the reliability of my vehicle due to this serious problem. When a vehicle just "turns off" in the middle of the freeway it poses a huge safety risk both to the occupants and to other drivers in the area. So my complaint is that it's taking far too long for Stellates to produce parts to remedy this problem.
The oil pump is defective and is a known issue at Alfa Romeo which causes the car restrict function which could result in loss of control of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V586000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle started shaking and the starter was making a ticking sound. The vehicle failed to start. The warning lights for alternator failure and the electronic throttle body control were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - THE MANUFACTER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS FLAWED. THERE IS NO RESOLUTION PROVIDED AT THIS TIME FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS TO BE PERFORMED. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - I AM DEEPLY CONCERN ABOUT THE POTENTIAL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS DEFECT. A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING COULD LEAD TO A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE ROAD. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -YES, THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FURTHER INSPECTED AS THERE IS NO RESOLUTION TO THIS MATTER AT THIS TIME. FOR THAT REASON, I AM VERY HESITANT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS PROPERTLY RESOLVED. IS SIGNIFICANT SAFETLY CONCERN FOR ME, MY PASSANGERS AND OTHERS IN THE ROAD AS WELL. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - NO DIRECT WARNING OR MESSAGE HOWEVER, ELECTRICAL ISSUES HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM BUT NO MAIN SOURCE HAVE EVER BEEN FOUND, EVEN AFTER MULTIPLES APPOINMENTS AND REPAIRS AT THE SHOP. MORE RECENTLY, THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES ARE BECOMING FRECUENT AND I'M AFFRAID ALL IS RELATED TO THIS PUMP ISSUE.
Oil Pump Solenoid will get stuck and will cause the car to go into LOMP mode or in worse cases cause the drivetrain to lock up and a lose all power. It can happen at random.
Car stall after driving a long drive specifically when it’s hot weather . Multiple occasions for the past 5 years Will never run again for about 10-15 minutes. When it come back on with a check engine. Code reads low fuel pressure.
The intrusment cluster stopped working took it to the dealership they couldn't get it to work they contacted the manufacturer they stopped communicating. Dealership can't get the new updated software to download.
This has been an issue slowly getting worse over the last few months and escalated this week. June 20th, 2025 my car has literary died over (4) times during traffic and I had to try and stay calm while using a code reader to clear the codes to get the engine to start. Very scary, I have a 2017 Giulia Ti that just hit 100k miles. Even took it to the dealership and they couldn't explain it. Parasitic draw on my battery and they gave it a pass :( Codes: P2510-ECM/PCM POWER RELAY SENSE CKT RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0103-VAF CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT P0100- VAF CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION P0451-EVAP SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH 'A' RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0106-MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE/BAROMETRIC PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT
My internal front seat airbag went off while parked. No warning. Just went off while I was sitting. I have yet to take it to a dealer. This just occurred.
The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed.
