Takata recall. The contact owns a 2000 Audi A4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V056000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms part not available.
2000 AUDI A4. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO THE OVD 2 UNIT IN AUDI AND VW VEHICLES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM INVOLVED THE OVD 2 UNIT WHICH COMMUNICATED THE SMOG TEST RESULTS TO THE COMPUTER AND DMV. ALTHOUGH, THE VEHICLE WOULD PASS THE EMISSIONS TEST, THERE WOULD BE A COMMUNICATION ERROR. THE DMV REQUIRED THE COMMUNICATION AND MADE NO EXCEPTION. THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM STEMMED FROM THE OVD 2 UNIT PLACED INTO THE RADIO. WHEN THE RADIO IS REPLACED WITH A NON AUDI OR VW RADIO THE OVD 2 UNIT IS NO LONGER THERE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PRICE TO REPLACE THE RADIO CONTAINING THE OVD 2 UNIT IS $1000 AND UP.
AUDI COMPLAINT AND RECALL REQUEST THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM NO LONGER WORKS LIKE IT SHOULD. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED I GET A SOLID AMBER ABS WARNING LIGHT ALONG WITH A FLASHING BRAKE LIGHT ACCOMPANIED WITH THREE WARNING TONES. UPON DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH I IMMEDIATELY REALIZED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE BOSCH 5.3 ABS CONTROL MODULE UNIT IS EXTREMELY COMMON ON 1998 TO 2001 AUDI AND VW MODELS. AUDI/VW CREATED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPAIR VW'S IN THE SAME DATE RANGE (BULLETIN 0517 NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10016037), BUT IGNORED THE ISSUE WITH AUDI'S. AS PER THE VEHICLE'S OWNER'S MANUAL, IT STATES THAT WHILE THE SYSTEM IS IN THIS STATE, THE REAR BRAKES MAY LOCK UP UNDER BRAKING. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO BRAKE QUICKLY IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. THE COST OF REPLACING THE ABS MODULE FROM THE DEALERSHIP WAS QUOTED AT OVER $1000. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THOUSANDS OF AUDI OWNERS HAVE VOICED COMPLAINTS. THIS IS A BLATANT DISREGARD FOR THEIR CUSTOMER'S SAFETY AND A RECALL SHOULD BE REQUIRED. *TR
THE LCD DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER IS PIXELATED, THIS NORMALLY WOULDN'T NORMALLY BE A HUGE PROBLEM BUT THIS SCREEN INFORMS THE DRIVER OF HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURES, LOW OIL, LOW COOLANT, ETC. I'M UNABLE TO READ THE SCREEN AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS ATTEMPTING TO TELL ME WHEN MY CAR MAKES A VERY HIGH PITCHED BEEP TO INFORM ME THERE IS A PROBLEM. I'VE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CARS OF THIS MODEL YEAR AND SEVERAL OTHER MODEL YEARS. *TR
1. WHEN THE ABS IS ACTIVATED DURING SNOW OR ICE CONDITIONS. 2. THE BRAKES "STICK" AND THE ABS IS NOT FULLY DEACTIVATED ONCE YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. OFTEN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE IS STILL ENGAGED SLIGHTLY DURING DRIVING. WHEN STOPPED YOU CAN SMELL THE RUBBING BRAKES AND YOU CAN TELL THE BRAKE IS RUBBING WHILE DRIVING AS IT SLOWS DOWN THE VEHICLE. IT USUALLY UNSTICKS AFTER SEVERAL MILES OF DRIVING OR LEAVING THE CAR SIT OVERNIGHT NOT RUNNING. 3. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS, BUT THEY TELL ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR ABS SYSTEM. *TR

THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO BRAKE QUICKLY IN ALL SITUATIONS ESPECIALLY WINTER CONDITIONS AND THE COST TO GET IT REPLACED IS FAR TOO MUCH. *TR
I WAS HEADED NORTH BOUND ON THE CALIFORNIA 57 RIGHT BEFORE DIAMOND BAR BLVD. WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO FISH TAIL. I DROVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER LANE AND RIGHT AS I MERGED OVER MY BACK DRIVER SIDE TIRE SNAPPED OFF TAKING HALF MY WHEEL BASE WITH IT LEAVING NO WAY TO PUT A SPARE TIRE ON. *TR
ABS MODULE FAILURE & CENTER CLUSTER FAILURE - 2000 AUDI A4 1.8T, 65,000 MILES. ABS COMES ON ALONG WITH BLINKING BRAKE LIGHTS. KNOWN AUDI ISSUE. HAVING ABS REBUILT BY MODULE MASTERS AS AUDI WANTS $$ AND ANY NEW ABS MODULE THEY WILL INSTALL WILL ALSO FAIL. CENTER CLUSTER ALSO FAILED, ALSO KNOWN AUDI ISSUE. *TR
THE HEAT SHIELDS ABOVE MY CATALYTIC CONVERTERS CAUGHT FIRE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT A LARGE EXPENSE TO ME. UPON RECEIPT OF THE REPLACEMENT PARTS, IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE PARTS HAD BEEN REDESIGNED. I BELIEVE THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS FOUND A FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE WITH THEIR ORIGINAL DESIGN AND IS QUIETLY REPLACING THEM. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT IT TAKES YOUR CAR CATCHING ON FIRE TO KNOW YOU NEED TO REPLACE THEM. *TR
REPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY P/N 341-1107L-US MADE BY DEPO FOR 2000 AUDI A4 HAS THE CENTER BULB ROTATED 180 DEGREES FROM THE ORIGINAL. A BULB ENGINEER AT SYLVANIA/OSRAM SAID THE PARTICULAR BULB LIGHT PATTERN IS DEPENDENT UPON ORIENTATION DUE TO THE FILAMENT STRUT AND A REFLECTOR IS DESIGNED TO WORK WITH THE BULB IN A CERTAIN DIRECTION. THE POTENTIAL ISSUES ARE 1) WAS THE REFLECTOR DESIGNED AND TESTED TO WORK WITH THE BULB THAT WAY, AND IF NOT 2) WAS THIS SOMETHING THAT WAS JUST OVERLOOKED OR IGNORED WHEN THE LIGHT WAS COPIED FROM THE ORIGINAL AUDI DESIGN, OR 3) WAS THIS A MANUFACTURING MISTAKE THAT HAPPENED TO A BATCH OF PARTS. A US DISTRIBUTOR THINKS #1 IS THE CASE, BUT HE MADE THE COMMENT WITHOUT SPEAKING TO THE ENGINEERS IN TAIWAN. IF THIS CONDITION IS IMPROPER, THERE ARE MANY LIGHT ASSEMBLIES OUT THERE LIKE THIS AND THEY MAY NOT PASS REGULATORY TESTS. THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT IS FLASHING ON MY DASH BOARD. THE REPAIR SHOP SAYS THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE COST IS ABOUT $1000! MY CAR HAS ABOUT 120,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

HELLO: RECENTLY I HAD A FAILURE WITH THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2000 AUDI A4, 2.8L. THIS FAILURE WAS VERIFIED BY THE AUDI DEALER IN WILMINGTON, DE. FROM THE DEALER AND ACCORDING TO MANY ARTICLES, THIS FAILURE IS COMMON WITH THIS MAKE. SO COMMON, THAT AUDI/VW DID A RECALL ON VW'S, BUT NOT ON AUDI'S. I AM AN OWNER OF A 2000 A4 1.8T AUDI. THE OWNER'S MANUAL STATES THAT THE TIMING BELT SHOULD BE REPLACED AT 105,000 MILES AND ALSO STATES THAT IT IS A "LONG-LASTING" BELT. I HAVE 95,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND THE TENSIONER AND DAMPER FAILED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 65 MPH; THE CAR JUST STOPPED, AND I HAD TO NAVIGATE THROUGH FOUR LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER IN A CAR WITH NO POWER- SCARY AND DANGEROUS! THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MECHANIC'S, AND SINCE I WAS 5 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME, I HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR THE NEXT 12 DAYS WHILE IT WAS BEING REPAIRED. $3300.00 LATER, AND AFTER TWO TRIPS UP THERE (10 HOURS ROUND TRIP FROM HOME) I GOT MY CAR BACK AND WAS INFORMED WHY THE WHOLE THING HAPPENED (DEFECTIVE PARTS). THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME ALL THE DAMAGE THAT WAS DONE-INCLUDING ALL 20 BROKEN AND TWISTED VALVES! APPARENTLY, AUDI KNOWS ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS, AND OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING, BUT AUDI HAS NEVER MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY ME OR OTHER A4 OWNERS OF THIS SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THIS IS A FINICKY CAR AND WHEN THE TIMING BELT GOES, IT ALSO CAUSES SIGNIFICANT ENGINE DAMAGE, WHICH IS VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR. BECAUSE AUDI KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM, AND HAS NOT INFORMED THE CUSTOMERS, AND BECAUSE THE OWNER'S MANUAL INDICATES REPLACEMENT AT 105,000 MILES, I WILL ADAMANTLY PURSUE REIMBURSEMENT FROM THEM THROUGH THEIR CORPORATE OFFICE. LCD PART OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS PROGRESSIVELY FAILED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS TOTALLY UNREADABLE. IT STARTED OUT AS A FEW MISSING LINES IN THE DISPLAY AND NOW THERE ARE ONLY A FEW LINES LEFT THAT STILL LIGHT UP. *TR

RECENTLY THE ABS AND BRAKE ALARM CAME ON AND WHEN I WENT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED THE SERVICE MAN SAID THERE WAS A FOUR WEEK BACK ORDER ON THE ABS MODULE. HE SAID THAT THIS PART IS GOING BAD IN ALL THE AUDI A4'S AND SOME A 6'S AND HE CAN'T EVEN GET THE PART FROM A JUNKED AUDI. *JB

EARLIER MODEL AUDI A4 AUTOS HAVE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM RELATED TO THE FAILURE OF THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. FAILURE TO REPAIR IMMEDIATELY AT A COST OF UP TO $3000 (IF AUDI CAN FIND PARTS) WILL RESULT IN REAR WHEEL LOCKUP AND POTENTIAL LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. THE CONSUMER READ ON SEVERAL WEBSITES THAT THIS WAS COMMON FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALERSHIP, BUT HIS CALL WAS NOT RETURNED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT YET CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. I AM AN OWNER OF A 2000 A4 1.8T AUDI. THE OWNERS MANUAL STATES THAT THE TIMING BELT SHOULD BE REPLACED AT 105,000 MILES. I HAVE 94,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND THE TENSIONER FAILED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A SPEED OF 60 MPH. WHENEVER I STARTED INVESTIGATING MY OPTIONS FOR REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE I WAS INFORMED THAT AUDI HAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS FAILURES DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THIS TENSIONER. AUDI HAS NEVER MADE ANY ATTEMPTS IN NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THAT THE TENSIONER SHOULD BE REPLACED BEFORE THE RECOMMENDED 105,000 MILES AS STATED IN THEIR OWNERS MAINTENANCE PACKAGE. THE AUDI HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE SO WHENEVER A TIMING BELT FAILS THERE IS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE HEAD AND VALVES. I WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $7,500 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AUDI, I CHOOSE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER AUTO SERVICE DEALER FOR REPAIR WHICH COST $4,000. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT AUDI SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE IN EXCESS OF THE REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE BELT DUE TO THE FACT THE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE TENSIONER PROBLEMS AND THE DAMAGE IF NOT REPLACED BEFORE WHAT IS STATED IN THEIR OWNERS MANUAL, I BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE DECEIVED THE CUSTOMER. *NM
BRAKES POWER ASSIST FAIL AT / JUST AFTER STARTUP WHEN SELECTING REVERSE OR DRIVE WHILE THE AIR CONDITIONING IS ON. I REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO THE AUDI EXCHANGE IN HIGHLAND PARK, IL LAST YEAR. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, AT THE TIME AS I WAS UNAWARE THAT IT ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE A/C WAS ON AND AT LOW SPEED AFTER INITIAL START UP. THIS OCCURRED AGAIN THIS SUMMER WHEN I WAS TRYING TO MOVE OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP. THE RESULT WAS THAT I HIT ANOTHER CAR AT LOW SPEED CAUSING NO DAMAGE TO EITHER.
I EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF ABS IN A 2000 AUDI A4 AVANT QUATTRO. THIS IS THE WELL-KNOWN AND WIDELY REPORTED PROBLEM WITH THE BOSCH 5.3 ABS CONTROL MODULE UNIT. THE UNIT SPONTANEOUSLY FAILED WITHOUT ANY REASON, AT ABOUT 80K MILES. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THE ABS DOES NOT WORK AND THE PART TO REPLACE IT IS ABOUT $1500. I HAVE YET TO REPLACE OR REPAIR IT AT THIS POINT, HOPING VW/AUDI WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT (A RECALL WOULD BE NICE). *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED ON APRIL 5, 2005 ENGINE STARTED MAKING LOUD NOISES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REGULAR SERVICE AND INSPECTION, AND THE DEALER FOUND THE HEAD GASKETS, MASS FLOW SENSORS, VACUUM HOSES, INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS, AND THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIRS WERE MADE. FOUR MONTHS LATER THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING LOUD NOISES AGAIN. THE CONTACT WAITED ANOTHER FOUR MONTHS BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER ON DECEMBER 29, 2005 TO HAVE IT SERVICED A SECOND TIME. CAR HAS ONLY 62,000 MILES, BUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM CONTROLLER FAILED. MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPLACE; REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. *JB
AIRBAG SENSOR FAILED
PASSENGER FRONT BRAKE PAD SEPATATED FROM THE METAL BACKING PLATE WHILE WITHIN SERVICE SPECIFICATION (0.25 IN OF PAD) AND RESULTED IN LONG BRAKING DISTANCES AND GREATLY REDUCED PEDAL PRESSURE. PEDAL PRESSURE COULD NOT BE RECOVERED UNDER REPETITIVE BRAKE ACTUATIONS. THE CAR BECAME UNSAFE TO OPERATE AT ANY SPEED. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE THE FAILURE. AUDI OF AMERICA REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART UNDER AUDI ASSURED WARRANTY STATING THAT THIS IS NOT RELATED TO A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. *AK
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE OWNER'S MANUAL INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG MAY NOT OPERATE IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A CHECKUP BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK *NM
COMPLAINT RECEIVED VIA E-MAIL." THE ABS MODULE MALFUNCTIONS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AT 30 MPH AND SLOWER, THE PEDAL BEGINS TO THUMP AND KICK BACK AT MY FOOT. THE NOISE IS SO LOUD THAT IT CAN BE HEARD OVER THE STEREO. EVEN THE REAR PASSENGERS CAN HEAR THE NOISE. I FEEL AS THOUGH MY STOPPING DISTANCE IS EXTENDED BY THIS. THIS IS NOT ONLY ANNOYING BUT ALSO DANGEROUS IN INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE MANUFACTURE HAS NOT ANSWER FOR WHAT CAUSING THIS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE ALL THEY COULD WITH THE EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED BY THE MANUFACTURE. THEY REPLACED THE MODULE, BUT DON'T KNOW IF THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.*JB MODULE WAS NOT REPLACED. *TC

ABS MODULE/SENSOR FAILURE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS FREQUENTLY WITH OTHER AUDI OWNERS AND HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY DOCUMENTED ON SITES SUCH AS MYCARSTATS.COM. BASICALLY THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON WHILE DRIVING, ACCOMPANIED BY A BEEP. AFTER INITIAL RESEARCH, I WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM THE MODULE HAD FAILED AND WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. LOCAL AUDI DEALER QUOTED 1500 FOR THE MODULE PLUS LABOR. LUCKILY, I FOUND AN ALTERNATIVE BY SENDING THE FAULTY MODULE TO MODULEMASTER.COM. THIS COMPANY SPECIALIZES IN REPAIRING DEFEKTIVE CIRCUITRY. THE LABOR IS WARRANTIED FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AND COSTS 300.00 (INCLUDING SHIPPING AND MISC. STUFF). THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVEABLE WHILE THE MODULE WAS OUT. THEIR WEBSITE CONTAINED A VIDEO ON HOW TO PROPERLY ACCESS THE MODULE, REMOVE IT, AND REPLACE IT ONCE IT WAS REPAIRED. ALL IN ALL, I SAVED MYSELF '1200 PLUS LABOR'. I WOULD LIKE EXPRESS MY DISGUST WITH ALL AUDI DEALERS WHO SELL THEIR MODULES FOR THESE OUTRAGEOUS PRICES. ONE THING NONE OF THEM ADMITT TO IS THAT THE REASON WHY THESE BOSCH MODULES FAIL IS BECAUSE OF A KNOWN DEFEKT IN THE CIRCUITRY. SO THEIR $1200 MODULES WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL TOO. *NM

PIXELS ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION DISPLAY IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED GRADUALLY SINCE THE 2000 AUDI A4 QUATTRO WAS 4 YEARS OLD. ALMOST ALL PIXELS ARE DEAD NOW. THE DRIVER INFORMATION DISPLAY IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IT INCLUDES INFORMATION ON THE CURRENT OPERATING STATUS VIA AUTOCHECK CONTROL, WHICH MONITORS THE CONDITION OF CERTAIN COMPONENTS ON THE VEHICLE, SUCH AS THE BRAKE SYSTEM, COOLANT LEVEL AND ENGINE OIL PRESSURE. AUTOCHECK CONTROL TAKES PLACE CONTINUOUSLY WHEN THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED ON. MALFUNCTIONS AND SERVICE REMINDERS ARE ALSO SHOWN, ACCOMPANIED BY WARNING TONES. THE DISPLAYS ARE PRIORITIZE WITH EITHER RED OR YELLOW ILLUMINATED SYMBOLS. THE RED SIGNALS INDICATE A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION REQUIRING IMMEDIATE DRIVER ATTENTION; THE YELLOW ONES ARE CAUTIONARY INFORMATION. *TR
PERSISTENT FAILURE OF THE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL TRANSMISSION COMPONENT. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, OTHER THAN NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE PART WAS REPLACED AT 70,000 MILES BY SEWICKLEY AUDI AND PARTIALLY COVERED BY WARRANTY (75%). THE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED AGAIN AND AGAIN AT 100,000 MILES (ALONG WITH THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION) - NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. AUDI SERVICE (AT PAUL MILLER AUDI) REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION FOR A VERY COSTLY REPAIR ($8,800) AND STATED THAT A FAILURE OF THE CENTER BEARING IN THE TRANSMISSION OCCURED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE OF THE FIRST CENTER DIFFERENTIAL. *LA
MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND I HAVING ABS BRAKE PROBLEMS. THE BRAKES PULSE A LOW SPEEDS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED FROM A FAILURE IN THIS SYSTEM. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS AND IT WAS DEALER MAINTAINED UNTIL THE WARRANTY RAN OUT 1 YEAR AGO.*AK
