THIS IS A MORE COMMON ISSUE THEN AUDI WILL ADMIT, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND AUDI STILL WONT REPLACE ALL 6 IGNITION COILS (THEY REPLACE THEM ON A AS NEEDED BASIS).*AK
IGNITION COIL FAILED ON HIGHWAY. CAR "SHOOK" VIOLENTLY UNTIL STOPPED IN PARKING LOT. ONCE CAR WAS OFF THE ROAD, THE COIL HOUSING CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE ULTIMATELY BURNED ITSELF OUT, AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED AUDI USA OF THE DEFECT AND RECOMMENDED VEHICLE REPLACEMENT. AUDI USA ELECTED TO REPAIR CAR UNDER WARRANTY. MULTIPLE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED SINCE (SEE LIST). TS
ACCORDING TO REPORTS ON AUDI FORUMS, COIL PACKS HAVE BEEN FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE. THERE IS ONE PER CYLINDER, AND PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED SUCCESSIVE FAILURES. AUDI OF AMERICA WILL ONLY REPLACE THE FAILED ITEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL, AND ALL THE DEFECTIVE ITEMS REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME.*AK
THE DRIVER'S SIDE MIRROR HAS AUTO DIMMING FEATURE THAT HAS FAILED TO WORK CONSISTENTLY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. THI SAME MIRROR ALSO ADJUSTS ITSELF WITHOUT THE OPERATOR TOUCHING THE ADJUSMENT SWITCH. THE DEALERS COULD NEVER DUPLICATE THESE PROBLEMS AND THE VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY.

DRIVER'S DOOR TWEETER CUTS OUT. 8/30/02--SPEAKER IS REPLACED. PROBLEM STILL NOT FIXED. 9/20/02--RADIO IS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I'VE GIVEN UP ON THE ABILITY OF THIS DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO FIX ANYTHING RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.... *NLM
COIL PACKS ARE FAILING ON MANY OF THESE CARS. I HAD TO HAVE 2 FAIL BEFORE THEY WOULD REPLACE ALL 4. THESE SHOULD BE RECALLED IF THIS IS HAPPENING SO OFTEN TO SO MANY. *AK
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION - TWO IGNITION COILS FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. WAS ON FREEWAY IN FAST TRAFFIC WHEN COIL FAILED. CAR SLOWED DOWN ABRUPTLY AND TWO CARS BEHIND HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID COLLISION. TS
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WE HAVE HAD 2 SEPARATE SIDE WALL FAILURES ON THE FRONT TIRES. THE FIRST WAS IN LESS THAN 10,000 MILES AND THE SECOND WAS ON A NEW TIRE IN LESS THAN 5,000 MILES ON A NEW REPLACEMENT. NEITHER FAILURE SHOWED ANY EVIDENCE OF RIM DAMAGE OR OTHER EXTERNAL EVENT. WE ARE CAUGHT BETWEEN AUDI AND GOODYEAR EACH OF WHICH WANT US TO CALL THE OTHER PARTY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM RELATED TO THE AUDI TT TIRE RECALL. DT
NAR 1/15/2003. 4 OF THE 6 ENGINE COILS FAILED WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. *JB
THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS INTERMITTENTLY, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, ADJUST THEMSELVES OUTWARD MAKING OPERATION A DANGER. NEVER ABLE TO DUPLICATE AT DEALER, NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND STILL A PROBLEM. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO PAY TO EVALUATE, AND NOW THEY SAY THEY WILL ONLY PAY IF THEY FIND SOMETHING. *JB
CONSUMER STATES DURING A FRONTAL COLLISON, NONE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED ON IMPACT.*JB
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE IGNITION COIL IS DEFECTIVE ON THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ENGINE POWER AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. *MR CONSUMER STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED THE IGNITION COIL, BUT THE IGNITION FAILS REPEATEDLY. *YH
UNEXPLAINED ACCELLERATION FOR 1/2 MILE SERIOUS SAFETY WHILE NO ONE WAS INJURED OR PHYSICALLY HARMED, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. IN FACT MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING THE CAR WAS ABLE TO AVOID A LOADED SCHOOL BUS BEFORE SHE WAS ABLE TO FIND A SPOT TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND DISABLE THE VEHICLE. CAR WAS TOWED TO AUDI DEALER. DEALER UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED ACCELLERATION. ACTUALLY THE REPRESENTATIVE IMPLIED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WITHOUT A COMPUTER CODE. THIS IS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK OLD. PRIMARY DRIVER IS JOAN ASHMAN WHO IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. SINCE SERVICE HAS NOT FOUND ANYTHING THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. DEAL MANAGEMENT HAS NOT ADDRESSED THE ISSUE WITH US. I HAVE CALLED AN LEFT A MESSAGE FOR GENERAL MANAGER TO CALL. I HAVE CONTACTED AUDI CUSTER RELATIONS AND FILLED A REPORT. THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO INVESTIGET TO RESOLVE OUR SAFTEY CONCERN WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE.*AK
HOMELINK SYSTEM STOPS WORKING. DEALER REPROGRAMS THE SYSTEM (WHICH I HAD ALREADY DONE 5X), AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. THE VISOR WITH CONTROL BUTTONS IS ORDERED & REPLACED. THE HOMELINK STARTS WORKING AGAIN. 7/2002--HOMELINK STARTS ACTING UP AGAIN--IT IS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. 8/2002--HOMELINK TRANSCEIVER IS REPLACED AND IT STARTS WORKING AGAIN. LATER THAT MONTH, IT BEGINS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. 9/2002--DEALER FINALLY INVESTIGATES FURTHER, AND FINDS CORROSION IN THE WIRING HARNESS/CONNECTORS. THAT SOUNDS VERY STRANGE TO ME. WHAT WAS THE CAR EXPOSED TO DURING PRODUCTION TO CAUSE THAT? WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO FAIL/GIVE US PROBLEMS AS A RESULT? *NLM
TIRE AND CAR HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED TO MANUFACTURER SPECS, TIRES HAVE AUTOMATIC TIRE PRESSURE MONITORS. AT ABOUT 11000 MI I NOTICED SOME FEATHERING OF ALL 4 TIRES. I TOOK IT IN AT ABOUT 11700 AND DEALER AGREED ALL 4 TIRES WERE WEARING ABNORMALLY. THEIR FACTORY REP BLAMES GOODYEAR, DELAER STATED 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS OFF. THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO DATE ABOUT THE TIRES PREMATURELY WEARING. AT ABOUT 12600 MI THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR INDICATED A SUDDEN DECREASE IN PRESSURE FOR THE RR TIRE. I WAS GOING ABOUT 15 MPH AND WAS NEAR A TIRE SHOP. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE SHOP, THE TIRE WAS NEARLY FLAT. THEY REPAIRED THE TIRE, BUT INFORMED ME THAT THREE OF THE FOUR TIRES WOULD NOT PASS SAFETY INSPECTION. THE RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR HAVE NOT TREAD LEFT AND THE THE LR IS NEARLY GONE. THE LF WOULD PASS BUT IS BADLY FEATHERED FOR ONLY 12600 MILES. THE CAUSE OF THE FLAT TIRE WAS A NAIL I HAD PICKED UP IN THE NEARLY BALD RR TIRE. THE SHOP SAID IF IT HAD HAPPENED AT FREEWAY SPEEDS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. THEY STATED A NORMALLY TREADED TIRE WOULD NOT HAVE PICKED UP THE NAIL, BUT BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE WEAR, THE NAIL IMMEDIATLELY PUNCTURED THE TIRE. THE FACTORY REP TOLD ME THAT AUDI HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE GOODYEAR TIRE DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR THE ALLROAD MODEL AND THEY HAD NOT SEE MUCH PROBLEM WITH THE PIRELLI TIRES FOR THE SAME MODEL. I THINK SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THE MANUFACTURE AND SAFETY LEVEL OF THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER MADE ESPECIALLY FOR THE AUDI ALLROAD. PEOPLE WHO BUY THESE CARS COUNT ON THEM BEING SAFE AND ABLE TO PERFORM. TIRES SHOULD CERTAINLY LAST MORE THAN 10000 MILES AND ALL FOUR SHOULD WEAR EVENLY.*AK
A/C CONDENSER SPUNG A LEAK AND ALL FREON ESCAPED WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. DEALER REPLACED THE CONDENSER. *NLM

FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILURE, "GAS TANK" FAILURE, COILPACK FAILURE ON AUDI A4, 2002
ENGINE COIL FAILED ON 2002 A4 1.8T AT 10,600 MILES. PER AUDI, REPLACEMENT PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS. INDICATES THAT THIS IS A MORE WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAN AUDI IS ADMITTING. WHEN COIL FAILS, CAR BECOMES UNSAFE AND UNDRIVABLE; ENGINE BARELY HAS ANY POWER. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR DRIVER AND OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD SHOULD THE COIL FAIL WHILE CAR IS IN USE. AUDI IS NOT PROACTIVELY REPLACING ALL IGNITION COILS WHEN A VEHICLE PRESENTS WITH ONE FAILED COIL. AUDI WOULD NOT PROVIDE PRICE QUOTE TO ME FOR REPLACING REMAINING COILS IN THE VEHICLE AT MY EXPENSE (ALSO, THEY HAVE NO AVAILABLE PARTS TO DO THIS, ADVISING THAT THEY ONLY HAVE SUPPLY TO REPLACE FAILED COILS). I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL ALL COILS ARE REPLACED. PLEASE DEMAND THAT AUDI RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM AND INITIATE A RECALL TO REPAIR ALL IMPACTED VEHICLES. DEALER ADVISES THAT THEY ARE SEEING INCREASE IN NUMBER OF VEHICLES PRESENTING WITH FAILED COILS.
IGNITION COIL FAILURE
2002 AUDI A4 CUSTOMER STATES THAT FAILED BRAKES CAUSED AN ACCIDENT**CC THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BRAKES COLLAPSED UPON HIM TRYING TO APPLY THEM. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE COLLISION MUST HAVE OCCURRED FIRST, AND IN THE COURSE OF THE COLLISION, THE BRACKET IN WHICH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS MOUNTED COLLAPSED, AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO. IN HOT, MUGGY WEATHER AND WHEN OPERATING THE AIR CONDITIONER, THE A/C DEVELOPS CONDENSATION ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH SEVERELY IMPAIRS VISION AND SAFE OPERATION OF THIS VEHICLE. TO SEE OUT WINDSHIELD I MUST RUN WINDSHIELD WIPERS.*AK
AUTO TRANSMISSION LAGS UP TO 1 SECOND IN RESPONDING WHEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THIS HAS CAUSED A FEW CLOSE CALLS WHEN TRING TO MAKE TURNS INTO TRAFFIC. TRANS ALSO LAGS WHEN SHIFTING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. ENGINE REVS BUT DRIVETRAIN DOES NOT CATCH. THEN CAR TAKES OFF WITH A JOLT. ALSO, EXPERIENCING A VIBRATION FROM CAR WHEN DRIVING EVEN AFTER CHECKING BRAKE ROTORS, WHEEL BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT. SEEMS TO COME AND GO. COULD BE TRANSMISSION RELATED. DT
THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: THE DRIVER SEAT MOTOR IS INOP/LUMBAR MOTOR/ROCKS BACK/FORTH, THE LEFT HEADLIGHT(MOISTURE COLLECTION IN THE INSIDE DUE TO WEATHER/CAR WASH), THE AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT DEFECTIVE, THE SEAT AIR BAG TORN, THE STRAP ON DRIVER SEAT BELT DOES NOT LOWER/STUCK, WIRES WERE FOUND DAMAGED UNDER THE CARPET, AND THE VEHICLE HAS SHIFTING PROBLEMS/NOT SHIFTING EASILY-FAILED. THE CONSUMER ALSO REQUEST FOR THE DEALER TO BUY BACK THE VEHICLE AND OR COMPENSATE THE CONSUMER FOR THE TIME WITHOUT THE VEHICLE. SCC
