AS I WAS DRIVING THE GAS PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR FULL THROTTLE. I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. I FINAL GOT THE CAR OVER TO THE ROAD AT A STOP BY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE REVVED UP AS HIGH AS IT COULD GO. SO I CUT THE CAR OFF THEN CUT IT BACK ON AND IT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. IT TOOK 3 TIMES OF CUTTING THE CAR OFF AND WAITING A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR RETURNED TO NORMAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 16V382000 (AIR BAGS) AND 17V032000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,286.
RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT RANDOMLY AND IS VERY UNSAFE. I HAVE REPLACED LIGHT BULB AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE READ MANY PROBLEMS AND AUDI IS AWARE OF THIS BUT CHOOSES NOT TO DO ANYTHING. *TR
STOPPED ON A HILL AT A STOP LIGHT, WENT TO GO AND CAR LUNGED FORWARD AND DIED. HAD TO IMMEDIATELY APPLY BRAKES, CAR STARTED AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. WE ARE SECOND OWNER, HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A YEAR AND FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE FOR THIS VEHICLE WAS ALREADY REPLACED AT 49,000 MILES - UNDER WARRANTY TO OTHER OWNER. NOW, AT 130K MILES WE ARE BEING TOLD IT HAS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. IT IS A DANGER TO DRIVE AS THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION COULD FAIL OR EVEN THE GEARS COULD SLIP CAUSING DANGER TO THE PASSENGERS. THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF AUDI TRANSMISSION, KNOWN AS "MULTITRONIC" OR "CVT" HAS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND FAILURES. WE PAID 12K FOR THIS CAR USED AND HAVE A MAJOR MALFUNCTION WITHIN A YEAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE CONTINUOUSLY GOTTEN THE "DIPPED LIGHT" WARNING ON MY DISPLAY. MY LIGHTS PROCCEDED TO FLICKER AND THEN SHUT OFF. I WAS DRIVING RIGHT NEXT TO A CAR AND HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T COME ON. IT TOOK 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE HEADLIGHTS RETURNED TO NORMAL. I WAS EXTREMELY SCARED WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES SINCE THEN. I HAVE REPLACED THE BULBS AND THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I KNOW THERE IS A TSB FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT I THINK THERE IS A NEED FOR A RECALL AS I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. *JS
WELL MY ALL OF A SUDDEN DIDN'T WANT TO START IT WAS RUNNING FINE,I MEAN I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS REVIEWING SOME INFO ON THE INTERNET AND SEEN SOME RECALLS ON CERTAIN YEARS OF AUDI MALFUNCTIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
SHIFTING FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR AND THE GAS PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND ENGINE REDLINED RPMS. I HAD TO MANUALLY PULL THE PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR WHERE THE ENGINE AND PEDAL FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL AFTERWARDS. I CHECKED THE FLOOR MAT AND IT WAS SECURE AND AWAY FROM IMPEDING THE PEDAL. *TR
WE ARE THE 2ND OWNER OF AN AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE, PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 2010 WITH 25K MILES. WITHIN TWO YEARS, WE BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND HAD TO HAVE THE TCM REPLACED, WHICH WAS LATER REIMBURSED BY AUDI AS A RESULT OF A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT. IN JANUARY OF 2014, AT 38K MILES, AUDI DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION AS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDING REPLACEMENT, TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN COLD, VEHICLE SHUDDERING. ON COMPLAINT TO AUDI, THEY AGREED TO COVER 50% OF THE COSTS, WHICH WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $7,000 WHICH RESULTED IN MY WIFE BEING AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER. REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT HALF COST. AT 47K MILES, AGAIN COLD WEATHER, THE PROBLEM HAS WORSENED, VEHICLE OFTEN WON'T REVERSE AND TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP UNEXPECTEDLY. AS THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY, MY WIFE WILL NOT DRIVE IT UNTIL IT IS SAFE AGAIN. AS THERE IS DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE OF KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION (US DISTRICT COURT # CV11-00665 BRO AGRX), AUDI SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR 100% OF THE COSTS TO REPAIR AND CVT TRANSMISSION WHICH RESULTS IN A VEHICLE BEING UNSAFE TO OPERATE.
2005 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET WITH 38K MILES, CVT TRANSMISSION SLIPS BADLY, WON'T ACCELERATE, LOUD WHINING NOISE WHEN COLD. AUDI HAS ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND EXTENDING WARRANTY FOR 2004 AND EARLIER VEHICLES, BUT NOT 2005 MODELS, AS SETTLEMENT OF CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR VEHICLES WITH THE SAME CVT TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY AUDI DEALERSHIP AS NEEDING NEW TRANSMISSION AND PROVIDED A QUOTE FOR REPLACEMENT RE-MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION ($6,687.00 AND TAX). AUDI USA AGREED IN WRITING TO ASSIST WITH THE EXPENSE BY COVERING 50% OF TOTAL COST TO REPAIR. VEHICLE OWNER CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AND RELIABILITY WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN TRAFFIC. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, BOTH OF THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING ON AND OFF AS THE LEFT DIP LIGHT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN WHEN THE FAILURE WAS ACTUALLY OCCURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

SITTING, STOPPED IN MY DRIVEWAY, SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, (R WAS LIT ON DASH) YET WHEN I RELEASED BRAKE PEDDLE CAR WENT FOREWORD; IT WAS IN (D) DRIVE! I QUICKLY MOVED SHIFT LEVER TO PARK (P) AND BACK TO REVERSE, THIS TIME IT REALLY WAS IN REVERSE. *TR
RIGHT HEADLIGHT FLICKERED AND WENT OUT. INSTRUMENTS INDICATED RIGHT HEADLIGHT DIPPED. CYCLED POWER ON LIGHTS AND LIGHTS RETURNED FOR 30 SEC AND THEN CONTINUED PROBLEM. *TR

HEADLIGHT TURNS OFF BY ITSELF. WARNING MESSAGE "DIPPED HEADLIGHT" COMES OFF ON THE DASHBOARD. TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON AND HEADLIGHT COMES BACK ON (NORMAL). CAR RUNS WITH NO HEADLIGHTS IN THE DARK ON FREEWAY AT 65MPH FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS. THIS IS A COMMON (VERY KNOWN) PROBLEM WITH A4 MODELS. AUDI IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DESIGN/PART FLAW THUS NOT ISSUING A SAFETY RECALL. THE TRANSMISION STALLED; IT WAS AS IF THE CAR LOST POWER BUT THE ENGINE WAS STEEL RUNNING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE THE LIGHTS FOR RE-ILLUMINATION HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS RECURRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
LEFT DIPPED AND RIGHT DIPPED HEADLIGHT ON DASH WARNING. LIGHTS WILL FLICKER THEN JUST SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. *TR
PROBLEM: THE LEFT HEADLIGHT FLICKERS, I RECEIVE A WARNING MESSAGE THAT "LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED, THEN THE LEFT HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT. TO "RESET" THIS, I CAN TURN MY LIGHTS OFF, THEN TURN THEM ON AGAIN, BUT I CAN ONLY DO THIS WHEN STOPPED, AS IT'S UNSAFE TO DO THIS WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. ONCE I TURN THEM ON AGAIN, THEY'LL BE OK AGAIN FOR A WHILE, BUT THE PROCESS WILL REPEAT ITSELF AGAIN. *TR
PROBLEM OF "DIPPED" HEADLIGHT ON MY 2005.5 A4 B7. PURCHASED THE CAR USED IN 2009 AND HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE SINCE PURCHASE. ASKED MECHANICS TO INVESTIGATE BUT HAD FOUND NOTHING WRONG. USUALLY IT WAS JUST ONE SIDE, EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT (BOTH HAVE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES). THE OTHER DAY WAS THE THIRD OR FOURTH INSTANCE WHERE BOTH SIDES THREW THE "DIPPED" ERROR, LEAVING ME BARRELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 75MPH WITH NO LIGHTS. WHILE POWER CYCLING THEM USUALLY BRINGS THEM BACK, THIS IS COMPLETELY DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FOR A VEHICLE THAT IS ALLEGEDLY WORKING PROPERLY. IT IS CLEAR TO ME, AS AN ENGINEER MYSELF, THAT THIS IS A GROSS SHORT-COMING IN DESIGN OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM USED TO DRIVE THE LIGHTS. EITHER THE WIRING, OR BALLASTS ARE MALFUNCTIONING. AUDI HAS DONE NOTHING TO AMELIORATE OR WARN ME OF THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS(HID) FLICKER AND SOMETIMES GO OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS. I HAVE NOT HAD A TOTAL FAILURE YET; ALTHOUGH, I HAVE BEEN FRIGHTENED. THE FLICKERING HAPPENS ON A WEEKLY BASIS. THE TOTAL LIGHTS OUT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 376 THROUGH SQUIRRELL TUNNEL THE CAR STARTED TO HOP. SPUTTER AND JUST STOPPED. THE DASHBOARD STARTED FLASHING. AFTER 5 MINUTES THE CAR RESTARTED AND TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED.THIS CAUSED A HORRIFIC TRAFFIC JAM AND ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED. *TR
RIGHT HEADLIGHT DIPPED WARNING. RIGHT HEADLIGHT WILL FLICKER AND THEN SHUT OFF. I SUSPECT A FAULTY IGNITER BALLAST. MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 2005.5-2008 XENON HEADLIGHTS. CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
THE REAR WINDOW OF MY A4 CABRIOLET STARTED FALLING OUT. FROM TALKING TO OTHER OWNERS MINE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TAKATA RECALL AUDI HAS PERSISTENTLY DENIED ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE AIR BAGS AND THERE IS NO SUFFICIENT PROCESS TO REMEDY THIS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE BULLETIN AVAILABLE. AUDI HEADLIGHTS THE LEFT HEADLIGHT IS MALFUNCTIONING DUE TO SOMETHING WITH THE ADAPTIVE HEAD LIGHTS. UPON STEERING THE CAR, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAY ENTRIES AND EXITS, SHARP TURNS, AND WINDY ROAD DRIVING THE ERROR "DIPPED LEFT HEADLIGHT" WILL APPEAR. AUDI HAS CONSISTENTLY DENIED THE PROBLEM AS YOU NEED TO BE ON THE ROAD FOR THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR. EVEN DRIVING TO THE SERVICE MECHANIC IS DEADLY WITH ONLY ONE FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHT AND HAS BEEN THE ONLY WAY FOR A MECHANIC TO DETERMINE AN ISSUE IS OCCURRING. AFTER THAT, THE CAR MUST BE LEFT ON AND UNLOCKED WHILE REGISTERING THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD BECOME STUCK. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 100 MPH ERRONEOUSLY. THE CONTACT CONTINUED DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR POSSIBLE REPAIRS. THE DRIVER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FLOOR MAT RETENTION SYSTEM FAILED AND CAUSED THE FLOOR MAT TO BECOME LODGED UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,224.
THERE IS A HUGE PROBLEM IT SEEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM). APPARENTLY MOST AUDI VEHICLES WILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT AND THE REPAIRS ARE COSTING THE CONSUMERS BIG MONEY. A NEW ONE FROM THE DEALER COSTS AROUND 1100-1200.00 DOLLARS AND THEY ARE USED TO SEEING THIS PROBLEM AND DON'T THINK ITS A BIG DEAL... WHY SHOULD WE PAY IF ITS A PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE AWARE ABOUT AND ULTIMATELY COMES DOWN TO A BAD SERVICE BY THEM KNOWING AND NOT HELPING PAY FOR A REGULAR PROBLEM CAUSED BY THEM??? *TR
HEADLIGHT DIPPED WARNING CAME ON FOLLOWED BY THE BULB GOING OUT COMPLETELY AND NOT COMING BACK ON. FROM BLOGS THERE SEEMS TO BE NO FIX AND PROBLEM KEEPS RECURRING. THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM HERE AND ITS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH ONLY ONE HEADLIGHT. *TR

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUFFERED INJURIES AND WERE TAKEN TO A HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON 02/11/2012 AND THAT VERY EVENING WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THE LIGHTS, MY RIGHT LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AND THEN FAILED COMPLETELY. THIS REALLY UNNERVED ME AS I WAS IN AN AREA WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. AND DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I INSTINCTIVELY TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN, AND THIS MADE THEM COME BACK ON. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES THAT NIGHT. I FEEL THIS IS A BLATANT SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY AS I HAD FAMILY MEMBERS IN MY CAR AND THEIR WELL BEING WAS COMPROMISED. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM VIA THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS TO BE RAMPANT ON AUDI'S AND THE DEALERSHIPS DON'T EITHER KNOW WHAT TO DO OR DON'T WANT TO DO IT AS FOR THE EXPENSE OF THE PARTS.I SPOKE WITH NO LESS THAN 8 AUDI DEALERSHIPS AROUND THE PA NORTHEAST AND NO ONE COULD POSITIVELY SAY WHAT WOULD BE THE PROBLEM. I AM HAVING THE BULB REPLACED AT MY COST BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND HAVE NO WARRANTY. NOW I KNOW WHY I WAS ABLE TO PURCHASE IT AT A GOOD COST. LAST OWNER WAS PROBABLY CRAZY OVER THIS. BY ALL ACCOUNTS, EVEN REPLACING THE BULB MIGHT NOT WORK. THERE ARE NO LESS THAN 4 TSB'S OUT ON THIS PROBLEM. WHY AUDI GETS AWAY WITH THIS IS A TRAVESTY AND THIS SHOULD BE REMEDIED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
THE RIGHT MAIN HEADLIGHT FLICKERED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING AND THEN SHUT OFF. A MESSAGE APPEARED "RIGHT DIPPED HEADLIGHT". THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR FOR THE PAST YEAR ALMOST EVERY TIME THE HEADLIGHTS TURN ON. *TR
WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT, WHEN ERROR MESSAGE "LEFT DIPPED HEADLIGHT" APPEARED, AND SHE NOTICED LEFT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT NOT WORKING. REPLACED WITH NEW BULB AND STILL NOT WORKING. A FEW MONTHS LATER, NOW BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING. THIS VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. *TR
5 MINUTES AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK AS I DO EVERYDAY, THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH READ "LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED", LOSING ONE SIDE OF THE LIGHTING TO THE VEHICLE. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS EACH DAY AFTERWARD WHENEVER DRIVING IN THE EARLY MORNING OR EVENING WHEN LIGHTS WOULD BE REQUIRED. A FEW MONTHS AFTER, THE RIGHT SIDE HAD DIPPED AS WELL. I LOOKED UP SOME POSSIBLE SCENARIOS OF WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A FEW THINGS BUT HAVE NOT PINPOINTED THE ISSUE; WILL HAVE TO TRY THE DEALERSHIP SOON. 1) CHANGE OUT THE BULBS (BI-XENON) 2) CHANGE OUT THE BALLASTS 3) SOME OTHER ISSUE THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN OF MINE AND MANY OTHERS AS ONE DAY BOTH LIGHTS WILL GO DARK WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND WILL SURELY INDUCE SOME TYPE OF ACCIDENT. SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2005 AUDI A4 2.0L AT MY LOCAL AUDI/PORSCHE DEALERSHIP, I HAVE HAD RECURRING ISSUES WITH MY HEADLIGHTS. IT STARTED WITH SHUDDERING AND FLICKERING WHILE IDLED, AND NOW THE PROBLEM IS SO BAD THAT MY LEFT LIGHT WILL ACTUALLY SHUDDER, FLICKER, AND GO COMPLETELY OUT. I HAVE TO MANUALLY SWITCH MY LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON (VERY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT) TO GET THEM BACK ON, ONLY TO EVENTUALLY SHUDDER AND GO OUT YET AGAIN. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE AUDI DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEM WITH THE HEADLIGHT COMPLETELY OUT, OF COURSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG (OVER $1000) TO FIX JUST ONE HEADLIGHT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT YOU CAN GOOGLE "AUDI A4 DIPPED HEADLIGHT" AND GET THOUSANDS OF FORUMS FULL OF COMPLAINTS. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO GO THROUGH EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO NICKEL AND DIME WITH NEW BULBS THAT DON'T FIX THIS HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE BALLASTS AND IGNITER. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY FOR AN ISSUE THAT'S AN OBVIOUS ISSUE ACROSS THE BOARD WITH THIS MODEL OF AUDI. I'M NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE AT NIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN RURAL AREAS WITH LITTLE LIGHTING BECAUSE MY HEADLIGHTS ARE SO UNDEPENDABLE. THIS IS NOT OK, AND AUDI CONTINUALLY REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. *JS
WHILE DRIVING EITHER DURING THE DAY OR DURING THE NIGHT EITHER ONE OF THE LIGHTS WILL START FLICKERING AND THEN EVENTUALLY GO OUT COMPLETELY. WHILE DRIVING HOME ONE THE FREEWAY ONE NIGHT THE RIGHT SIDE STARTED TO FLICKER AND THEN WENT OUT COMPLETELY...I TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF AND THEN TURNED THEM ON AND THE LIGHT WORKED PERFECTLY FINE FOR 5 MINS OR SO AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN! *TR THE NEXT DAY AS I WAS GOING TO WORK EARLY IN THE MORNING (WHILE IT WAS STILL A LITTLE DARK) THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN...BUT THIS TIME WITH THE LEFT SIDE. IT STARTED TO FLICKER AND THEN IT WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF AND TURNED THEM BACK ON AND THE LIGHT WORKED AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. I CALLED AN AUDI DEALER AND THEY SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN TO GET THIS ISSUE FIXED...THEY QUOTED ME AT $180 FOR THE BULB AND A GRAND TOTAL OF $450 FOR THE BULB PLUS INSTALLATION. I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT THE CAR AND IVE BEEN READING ONLINE ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR HEADLIGHTS.... I THINK ITS ONLY FAIR TO HAVE A RECALL DUE TO A POOR DESIGN BECAUSE I DONT THINK ITS VERY SAFE FOR ME OR ANYONE TO DRIVE WITH ONE HEADLIGHT AND THEN HAVING THE CHANCE OF THE OTHER HEADLIGHT GOING OUT AT THE SAME TIME!

LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT WILL TURN OFF SUDDENLY OR CONTINUOUS FLICKER WITHOUT WARNING. I OFTEN RECEIVE A "LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED" WARNING ON MY DASHBOARD. THE PROBLEM IS ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SET TO "AUTO." AUDI IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT DOES NOT YET HAVE A RELIABLE FIX FOR THIS ISSUE, AND THEY HAVE NOT VOLUNTARILY ISSUED A RECALL. MY LEFT HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT IN BOTH DRY AND WET WEATHER. I'M PRETTY SURE IT IS A WIRING/DESIGN DEFECT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND DISTRACTING WHEN MY LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPS WITHOUT WARNING. MY AUDI OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. PLEASE PUSH AUDI TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
WHEN THE CAR GETS COLD, THE LATCH ON THE TRUNK WON'T CATCH. SO, YOU CAN HAVE THE TRUNK LATCH CLOSED WHEN YOU LEAVE THE GARAGE. BUT WHEN YOU PARK IN A COLD OUTDOOR LOT, THE LATCH WILL COME UNDONE, AND YOU CAN'T LATCH THE TRUNK ON THE WAY HOME. SO WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AND HIT A BUMP, THE TRUNK LID RATTLES AROUND. BUT THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN IT IS COLD. THE SERVICE GUYS AT MY AUDI DEALER SAID, "YEAH, THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS." IF THEY KNOW ABOUT IT, WHY DON'T THEY FIX IT? THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE FAULTY TRUNK LATCHES. IT SEEMS A SAFETY HAZARD TO HAVE THE TRUNK FLY OPEN WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
THE TIMING CHAIN (NOT THE TIMING BELT, WHICH HAD BEEN CHANGED WELL BEFORE THE RECOMMENDED TIME) BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE IMMEDIATE RESULTING IN THE CAR COMING TO A RAPID AND ABRUPT STOP. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, IT OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED ON A VERY QUIET STREET. HAD IT OCCURRED ON A FREEWAY, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH LIKELY WOULD HAVE RESULTED SINCE THE CAR DECELERATED SO QUICKLY I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TIME TO COAST INTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE. APPARENTLY FAILURES OF THESE TIMING CHAINS OCCUR COMMONLY; AUDI APPARENTLY HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM FOR SOME CAM FOLLOWER WEAR PROBLEMS (THAT MAY OR MAY NOT INVOLVE A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE). BUT THEY DO NOT LIST THE CHAIN OR THE FOLLOWER AS MAINTENANCE OR INSPECTION ITEMS, AND GIVE OWNERS NO HINT THAT THEY SHOULD INSPECT THE FOLLOWER, OR REPLACE THE CHAIN PERIODICALLY. TIMING CHAIN FAILURES ON ZERO CLEARANCE ENGINES (VW HAS THE SAME ENGINE AND APPARENTLY THE SAME PROBLEM), WILL KILL FOLKS IF THEY OCCUR ON FREEWAYS OR OTHER ROADS WHERE AN INABILITY TO COAST TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT WILL LEAVE MOTORISTS AT INCREDIBLE RISK. *TR
LEFT OR RIGHT HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND FAIL EVERY TIME I USE MY HEADLIGHTS. NO WORSE OR BETTER WITH BUMPY ROADS. AFTER A LIGHT GOES OUT, TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON TEMPORARILY FIXES THE PROBLEM. BUT A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE LIGHT FLICKERS AND FAILS. MOST RECENT FAILURE WAS WHEN GOING AROUND A CORNER AT NIGHT. ONCOMING TRAFFIC DID NOT SEE ME AND NEARLY CRASHED HEAD ON. NEWLY PURCHASED CAR AND HEADLIGHTS FAILED FIRST NIGHT. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND READ DOZENS OF THREADS WITH SEEMINGLY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED AUDI HAS NOT PUT OUT A RECALL. SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO CURRENT SOLUTION. THE QUESTION IS OUT OF ALL THE DEADLY ACCIDENTS IN AUDI CARS, HOW MANY HAD THIS ISSUE AS A FACTOR. I DON'T ENVY THE PERSON QUICKLY DRIVING DOWN A WINDING BACK ROAD, WHEN THEIR HEADLIGHTS GO OUT AN INSTANT BEFORE A QUICK TURN THEY WONT SEE AND WRAP THEIR CAR AROUND A TREE. *TR
THE LEFT HEADLAMP WILL FLICKER AND THEN DIP TOWARDS THE GROUND WHILE DRIVING, A DASHBOARD WARNING SAYS "LEFT HEADLAMP DIPPED". THE CAR HAS BEEN TO THE AUDI DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, AND TELL ME THE FAULT DOES NOT GENERATE A COMPUTER CODE FOR THEM TO CHECK. IT HAS STARTED HAPPENING ON A MORE FREQUENT BASIS, AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ON DIFFERENT ROAD CONDITIONS. *TR
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION: VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER ENTERING HIGHWAY. DRIVER PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (MANUAL TRANSMISSION). TACHOMETER CONTINUED TO INCREASE UNTIL IT RED-LINED. DRIVER PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE THROTTLE RELEASED WITH A POPPING NOISE. DRIVER OBSERVED THE THROTTLE AND THE MAT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE PUSHING ON THE THROTTLE BUT THE MAT WAS NOT SECURED IN PLACE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER (WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT AND SERVICED REGULARLY). THEY RAN DIAGNOSTIC SCAN, NO FAULTS IN SYSTEM. OWNERS WROTE AND CALLED AUDI CUSTOMER CARE AND WERE INFORMED CAR IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. WEATHER WAS HOT AND DRY (JULY).
MY AUDI A4 CURRENTLY HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT. WHEN I TURN IT ON, ONE OF THE HEADLIGHTS WILL START FLICKERING AND THEN DIP, GETTING A WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT SPECIFIES THE HEADLIGHT HAS DIPPED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT HEADLIGHT. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND TENDS TO HAPPEN EARLY AFTER DRIVING, USUALLY WHEN ROADS ARE UNEVEN OR GOING OVER SPEED BUMPS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND ADVISED REPLACING THE BULBS AT THE COST OF OVER $700. THEY DID NOT GAURANTEE IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS SOON AS I DROVE OFF THE LOT. APPARENTLY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY AND HAZARD ISSUE AS IT OCCURS WHILE I AM DRIVING. IF YOU TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS AND TURN IT BACK ON, THEY WILL SOMETIMES STAY ON BUT MORE OFTEN WILL FLICKER AND THEN GO OFF AGAIN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE VS. WEAR AND TEAR AND WOULD LIKE AUDI TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE ISSUE AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TT
FRONT HEAD LIGHTS FLICKER, THEN GO OUT, RESULTING IN A "DIPPED HEADLIGHT" MESSAGE. ONCE, THEY BOTH WENT TO OUT ONCE. TO FIX THE PROBLEM, I HAVE TO PULL OVER, TURN THE ENGINE AND LIGHTS OFF AND RESTART. SOMETIMES THEY "DIP" AGAIN AND SOMETIMES THEY STAY ON. I TRY NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE HEADLIGHTS (EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT OR SOMETIMES BOTH) WILL JUST GO OUT. HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY, HAPPENS IN THE DRIVEWAY OR ON A SURFACE ROAD...IT HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME I DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON. AUDI CAN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN I BRING IT IN AND DOESN'T HAVE A FIX. MANY PEOPLE REPORT THAT REPLACING HEADLIGHT BULB OR BALLACE DIDN'T FIX PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THEY JUST FLICKER AND GO OUT. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL AS THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THE A4. *TR
VIBRATIONS ON THE ROAD OR AT IDLE CAUSE MY AUDI A4 (B7)'S HEADLIGHTS TO FLICKER OR EVEN TURN OFF FOR A BRIEF MOMENT! IT OCCURS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY NIGHT, AND SO FAR AUDI HAS ISSUED NO REMEDIES. I HAVE THE XENON BULBS. *TR
MY AUDI A4 CONSTANTLY WILL GET A DIPPED HEADLIGHT, MEANING THAT THE HID LIGHTS WILL DIP AND FAIL TO STAY ON. IT HAPPENS ON BOTH SIDES AND WILL HAPPEN AT NIGHT. I HAVE DRIVEN IN COMPLETE DARKNESS AND HAD BOTH LIGHTS FAIL, IF I TURN THE LIGHTS OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS AND BACK ON THEY WILL RESET BUT IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG BEFORE THEY DO IT AGAIN AND IT IS SOMETHING THAT CONCERNS ME ANYTIME I DRIVE DURING DARK TIMES. I LIVE IN A AREA WITH SNOW AND ICE IN THE WINTER AND ALSO HAVE TO DEAL WITH DEER AND PEDESTRIANS DURING THE SUMMER. 2005 AUDI A4 2.0T - HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTION. WARNING SIGN COMES ON "LEFT/RIGHT HEADLIGHT DIPPED OUT". DURING NIGHT, THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONLY WAY TO GET LIGHTS BACK ON IS TO EITHER TURN HEADLIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN OR PULL OVER, TURN CAR OFF AND RESTART. THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX THOUGH. WITHIN 10 TO 15 MIN, THE HEADLIGHT WILL "DIP" OUT AGAIN (LIGHT FLICKERS AND GOES OUT). CHANGING BULBS DO NOT HELP. CHANGING BALLAST DOES NOT HELP. WITHIN A 20 MILE STRETCH, MY HEADLIGHTS WILL "DIP OUT" AND BLACK OUT ON AVERAGE OF 3 TIMES. THIS MAKES FOR VERY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
