DEFECTIVE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. GOOGLE "DIPPED HEADLIGHT AUDI". CAUSES RAMPANT FLICKERING THAT BLINDS EVERYONE ON THE ROAD OR TURN OFF YOUR HEADLIGHT AND DRIVE IN THE DARK AT NIGHT. CHANGED BULB DOES NOT FIX IT. CHANGED BALLAST DOES NOT FIX IT. *TR
PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON AT NIGHT, THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT BEGINS TO FLICKER AND THEN SHUTS OFF WITH AN ERROR, "RIGHT DIPPED HEADLIGHT". IT OCCURS EVERY NIGHT, WHICH IS DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE AND OBSCURES THE VIEW TO DRIVERS OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS PROBLEM IS BEING SUFFERED BY A LARGE NUMBERS OF OWNERS AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
MY 2005.5 AUDI A4 QUATTRO FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCES HID HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS, TYPICALLY STARTING WITH A RAPIDLY FLICKERING HEADLIGHT AND THEN FOLLOWED BY THE HEADLIGHT(S) EXTINGUISHING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THERE IS A RIGHT OR LEFT DIPPED BULB FAILURE INDICATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE HEADLIGHTS CAN BE RESTORED BY CYCLING POWER. THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY; CURRENTLY IT OCCURS AT LEAST EVERY 30 MINUTES AND SEEMS TO BE TRIGGERED WHEN BRAKING THE CAR TO A STOP, GENTLY ACCELERATING IN LOWER GEARS, OR WHEN TURNING WHILE CLIMBING OR DESCENDING STEEP HILLS. WHEN THIS CONDITION IS EXPERIENCED, THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKER RAPIDLY AND EVENTUALLY EXTINGUISH. RESTORING THE AFFECTED HEADLIGHT REQUIRES ME TO EITHER PULL OFF THE ROAD AND CYCLE POWER OR TO MANUALLY TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS UNSAFE, PROBABLY ILLEGAL, AND VERY ANNOYING TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS IN TRAFFIC. I HAD THIS CONDITION REPAIRED PREVIOUSLY UNDER WARRANTY (40K MILES), BUT IT HAS RECENTLY RETURNED AND WORSENED. MY AUDI NOW HAS 92K MILES AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I AM SURPRISED THAT AUDI HAS NOT OFFERED A COST-FREE RECALL ACTION TO FIX THIS SAFETY PROBLEM, PARTICULARLY GIVEN ITS PREVALENCE IN AUDI A4'S. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN DEFECT IS HIGH AND APPARENTLY COULD INVOLVE REPLACEMENT OF THE HID BULBS, IGNITERS, AND SENSORS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE ABNORMALLY. THE PARKING, DRIVE AND NEUTRAL GEARS WERE ALSO ILLUMINATED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE PART WITH PART #4F5-827-505-D NOT SURE OF THE LONGEVITY OF THIS NEW PART. $50 PART + 1 HOUR LABOR THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED. ITS A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN YOUR TRUNK DOES NOT CLOSE PROPERLY AND POTENTIALLY POPS UP DURING DRIVING. IF THIS HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH TRUNK WIDE OPEN AND THINGS FLY OUT OF YOUR TRUNK AS YOU BLINDLY PULL OVER, ITS POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IS VERY HIGH. OVER THE COURSE OF NEARLY TWO YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, THE RIGHT AND LEFT HEADLIGHTS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED (TURNED OFF), WITH NO CONSISTENT CAUSE APPARENT. THE SPECIFIC ERROR MESSAGE THAT APPEARS IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN IS "RIGHT/LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED". THIS CONDITION IS BOTH UNSAFE, AND ILLEGAL - AS MANY STATES WILL ISSUE A TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR DRIVING WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHT. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7-8 TIMES, THE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS, THEN GOES OUT, BUT WILL COME BACK ON WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED, THEN BE FINE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS AT A TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM ON AT LEAST 3 VISITS, AND HAS CLAIMED THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE AND THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE SAID ERROR. THEY HAVE SUGGESTED/GUESSED THAT IT IS THE XENON LIGHT BULB ITSELF, HOWEVER IT HAS CHECKED OUT FINE EACH TIME, AND AS MENTIONED, HAS FUNCTIONED FLAWLESSLY AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE WITH MERELY A RESTART OF THE VEHICLE. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED, HOWEVER THEY HAVE CLAIMED TO PERFORM A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ON AT LEAST ONE VISIT. GIVEN THE AVAILABILITY OF INFORMATION ONLINE AND BY WORD OF MOUTH FROM OTHER FELLOW AUDI OWNERS, THIS PROBLEM IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST MY CASE. I WOULD LIKE AUDI TO STEP UP AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR THEIR OWN PR, BUT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS' SAFETY. *TR
HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN OFF FOR NO REASON. FOGLIGHTS WILL ALSO CYCLE ON AND OFF. NO SOLUTION. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR
AUDI A4 2005 HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME. *TR
LEFT HEADLIGHT (BI-XENON TYPE) FLICKERS THEN FAILS ON OUR 2005 AUDI A4 QUATTRO. THE ONLY WAY TO BRING THE LIGHT BACK ON IS TO TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN - AT NIGHT, THIS MEANS SEVERAL SECONDS WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON - WHICH MEANS THAT YOU MUST PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE ALONG THE ROAD (WHICH SOMETIMES IS NOT POSSIBLE) TO CYCLE THE SWITCH. THE LIGHT WILL OFTEN SHUT OFF SHUT OFF SEVERAL TIMES A MINUTE REQUIRING MULTIPLE RESETS OF THE SYSTEM. THERE IS TSB FROM AUDI DESCRIBING THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE XENON HEADLIGHT UNIT FLICKERS OFF AND ON AND EVENTUALLY GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. TURNING HEADLIGHTS OFF AND ON WHILE TEMPORARILY RELIEVE THE PROBLEM (SOMETIMES LESS A FEW SECONDS, OTHERS TIME 30 MIN OR HOUR). WHEN PROBLEM STARTED A COUPLE YEARS AGO , TIME BETWEEN THE PROBLEM WAS LONG (WEEKS). THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED AND NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE AT NIGHT. WHEN PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED (CAR UNDER WARRANTY, ~45K MILES), NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE AN ISSUE BY THE DEALERSHIP AS THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED AT THE POINT OF INSPECTION. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. FROM THINGS I'VE READ, AUDI FAILED TO PROGRAM FAULT TESTS FOR THE HEADLIGHTS, MAKING THE PROBLEM HARD TO DIAGNOSE. ADDITIONALLY, MANY AUDI OWNERS SPENT LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY TRYING TO REPLACE BULBS AND REPLACE BALLASTS (VERY EXPENSIVE) ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM PERSIST. I'VE ENCOUNTERED A COUPLE OWNERS THAT HAVE ACTUALLY HAD CHARRED CONNECTORS OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AFFILIATED WITH THE LIGHTING SYSTEM (FIRE HAZARD?). THE DEFECTIVE NATURE OF THE SYSTEM IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. PLEASE HELP FACILITATE AN ACCEPTABLE RESPONSE PROGRAM FROM AUDI. *TR
AUDI A4 (2005) - AUDI IS APPARENTLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE "DIPPED HEADLIGHTS" IN THEIR VEHICLES, BUT WILL NOT OFFER A FIX TO OWNERS. IF ONE DOES AN INTERNET SEARCH YOU CAN FIND LITERALLY DOZENS OF SITES DEDICATED TO THIS ISSUE AND PEOPLE TRYING TO GET A RESOLUTION. THIS PROBLEM CAUSES ONE OR BOTH OF THE HID HEADLIGHTS TO FLICKER AND GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AND REPEATS EVEN WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. DIPPED HEADLIGHT / FLICKER / PROBLEM VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. HID HEADLIGHT WILL FLICKER THEN GOES OFF COMPLETELY. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY WHEN VEHICLE IS COLD. *TR
BOUGHT 2005 AUDI 3.2 QUATTRO A4 WITH 57500 MILES HAVE DRIVEN APROX 3000 MILES AND HEADLIGHTS HAVE STARTED TO FLICKER AND THE LEFT HIGHBEAM IS STARTING TO FAIL. I GET ERROR MESSAGE THAT HEADLIGHT HAS DIPPED. IT THEN SHOWS HEADLIGHT FAILED SYMBOL. I TURN LIGHTS OFF AND ON AND HEADLIGHT COMES BACK ON. I SEE FROM ONLINE RESEARCH THAT THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH AUDI OWNERS WITH NO FIX FROM AUDI. *TR
2005 AUDI CABRIOLET; BACK WINDOW CAME UNGLUED; DEALER TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY. SAID IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE FLORIDA HEAT; TALKING WITH AN UPHOLSTERY, HE REPORTED 5 AUDI CABRIOLET'S COMING IN THE LAST WEEK WITH SEPARATED BACK WINDOW JUST HERE IN NAPLES, FL. ALSO THE ECU TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE IS OUT, WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE, INDICATOR LIGHTS FLASHING; DEALER OF COURSE SAID IT IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM, WHICH I CAN SEE FROM MY RESEARCH IT IS! *TR
LEFT XENON HEADLAMP WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. IT STARTED BEING A PROBLEM ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR USED. IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE INTERMITTENT OPERATION HAS RETURNED. *TR
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM DRIVE TO SECOND GEAR ON ITS OWN AND ERRATICALLY. DEALER DIAGNOSES FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, REPLACED. AND, AT APPROX 90,000 MILES, THE REAR WINDOW DETACHED FROM THE CLOTH TOP. DEALER EXPLAINED IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. TOP WAS REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4 2.0T. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITH NO POWER BRAKES OR POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CAM SHAFT BROKE AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED TO COVER A PERCENTAGE OF THE REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 70,000.

2005 AUDI CABRIOLET CONVERTIBLE. THE REAR WINDOW IS PARTING FROM THE ROOF. THE GLUE IS NOT HOLDING. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS THE WINDOW COULD LEAVE THE VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND CRASH INTO OTHER VEHICLES. AUDI REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS THE 2ND AUDI CONVERTIBLE I'VE OWNED (PREV 2003) AND THIS WAS A PROBLEM THEN AS WELL. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 AUDI A4 2.0T QUATTRO AVANT AND A 2006 AUDI A4 2.0T QUATTRO SEDAN. ON BOTH CARS, THE XENON DIRECTIONAL LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING WITH MESSAGE "RIGHT DIPPED HEADLIGHT." LIGHTS COME ON AGAIN ONLY AFTER TURNING SWITCH TO OFF POSITION, WAITING TEN SECONDS AND TURNING THEM BACK ON. PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT BUT OCCURS EVERY DAY. AUDI DEALERS HAVE REPLACED XENON BULBS, IGNITERS AND PIGTAIL TO LAMPS, ADVISING THAT WIRES GET VERY HOT. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND CONSTITUTES GREAT DANGER ON DARK ROADS. THIS HAS BEEN RECURRENT ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS WITHOUT A SOLUTION. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILED CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING ON A PARKING LOT. AUDI A4 2005 1.8 QUATTRO. *TR
2005.5 (MIDYEAR) AUDI A4 2.0T WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE OUT OF CONTROL FOR APPROXIMATELY 15-25 SECONDS DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT BEING DEPRESSED. THIS OCCURRED EVEN THOUGH NO PRESSURE WAS BEING APPLIED TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR QUICKLY PICKED UP SPEED, REACHING SPEEDS OF 90+ MPH ON A CROWDED URBAN HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. A COLLISION WAS BARELY AVOIDED. THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL OBSTRUCTION TO THE GAS PEDAL (I.E THERE WAS NO MAT OR DEBRIS IN THE WAY). FURTHERMORE, THERE WAS LIMITED BRAKE FUNCTION AT THIS TIME. AFTER 15-25 SECONDS THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. THE ISSUES: 1. UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION TO REDLINE WITH NO CONTROL OVER THE ACCELERATOR 2. BRAKING FUNCTION FAILED TO OVERRIDE THE ACCELERATOR FUNCTION (AS EXPLAINED BY MY DEALER. IF YOU BRAKE WHILE ACCELERATIONS, THE BRAKES WIN, WHICH DID NOT OCCUR IN THIS CASE.) I HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY MU AUDI SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHO SAID THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR
JUST PURCHASED A 2005.5 AUDI A4. HEADLIGHT SOMETIMES WILL FLICKER AND GOES OUT. DASHBOARD SAID DIPPED RIGHT HEADLIGHT OR DIPPED LEFT HEADLIGHT. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS AUDI AND MY AUDI DEALER IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM. OVER 75% HAVE THESE CARS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY SON AS HIS FIRST CAR AND HAS BEEN A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME. HE WAS RESTRICTED ONLY CAN DRIVE IN THE DAY TIME AND ALSO CAUSING US A LOT OF INCONVENIENCE. BY REPORTING THIS I HOPE SOMEONE WILL LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND HAVE AUDI STEP UP TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THANKS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD DIM MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD AT NIGHT. THE CONTACT LOOKED AT THE LIGHTS AND NOTICED THAT THEY WERE FOGGY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE STATING THAT THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING ON THREE CYLINDERS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR CONCERN AND THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE FINE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE COIL IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE THAT WAS BEING USED. THREE MONTHS LATER THE TURBO FAILED AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 62000.
DIPPED LOWER RIGHT HEADLAMP. I HAVE HAD THE BULB REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE BECAUSE THE DEALER SAID THAT WOULD BE THE REASON FOR IT TO FLICKER AND GO ON AND OFF. THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION. LOOKING AT ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS A RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD DISPLAY HEADLIGHTS DIPPED ON THE INSTRUMENT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO WAS TOLD THE ENGINE VIBRATION CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO SHUT OFF. THE DEALER PLACED RUBBER PIECES INTO THE CASING IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE VIBRATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
AUDI A4 A6 ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM). MY 2005 A4 CAR HAD APPROX 45,000 MILES WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TAKING THE CAR IN FOR AM OIL CHANGE SO I HAD THEM CHECK THE ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE TCM AND THE CAR WAS REGISTERING FAULTY SAFETY CODES. I WAS INFORMED THAT IF I DID NOT GET IT FIXED THE CAR COULD SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING OR THE TRANSMISSION COULD BURN UP WHILE DRIVING. THE UNIVERSITY AUDI SERVICE REPR (JORDAN) STATED IT WAS UP TO AUDI HQ TO MAKE SUCH A CALL. I ASKED IF HE HAD SEEN OTHER ISSUES. HE STATED YES THAT IS WHY AUDI CAME UP WITH AN UPDATED PART. I STATED WELL IF THERE WAS AN UPDATED PART THAT MEANS THE OLD PART WAS NO GOOD AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUE. I CALLED AUDI HQ AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY TRACK THE FREQUENCY OF PART REPLACE AND DETERMINE A RECALL BASED ON THAT. I REPLIED WHAT ABOUT SAFETY AND THE DEATH OR INJURY OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. WHY WOULD YOU NOT EVALUATE AN ISSUE FOR RECALL BASED ON SAFETY? SHE INDICATED AUDI VALUES ITS CUSTOMERS, BUT RELIES ON DEALERS TO REPORT ISSUES. SOUNDS LIKE EVERYONE IS IN DENIAL OF WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAFETY AND LIVES OF AUDI CAR OWNERS. THEN, I WAS TOLD THE AMOUNT OF MORE THAN $1800 DOLLARS. I SAW SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE TCM AND COST OF MORE THAN $2500. NOW I KNOW WHY THEY DID NOT WANT TO ISSUE THE RECALL, BUT INSTEAD UPDATE A PART AND CHARGE ITS CUSTOMERS VERSUS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFETY ISSUE. DIPPED HEADLIGHT ON 2005 AUDI A4. HAD ISSUE WITH LEFT HEADLIGHT WHICH AUDI USA EVENTUALLY REPLACED, NOW RIGHT HEADLIGHT IS DOING THE SAME AND AUDI REFUSES TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
"INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION. OVER THE COURSE OF A YEAR AND A HALF OF OWNERSHIP, THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT HAS MALFUNCTIONED (TURNED OFF), WITH NO CONSISTENT CAUSE APPARENT. THE SPECIFIC ERROR MESSAGE THAT APPEARS IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION SCREEN IS "LEFT HEADLIGHT DIPPED". THIS CONDITION IS BOTH UNSAFE, AND ILLEGAL - AS MANY STATES WILL ISSUE A TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR DRIVING WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHT. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 20 TIMES, THE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS, THEN GOES OUT, BUT WILL COME BACK ON WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED, THEN BE FINE FOR WEEKS OR MONTHS AT A TIME. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM ON AT LEAST 3 VISITS, AND HAS CLAIMED THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE AND THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE. THEY HAVE SUGGESTED/GUESSED THAT IT IS THE XENON LIGHT BULB ITSELF, HOWEVER IT HAS CHECKED OUT FINE EACH TIME, AND AS MENTIONED, HAS FUNCTIONED FLAWLESSLY AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE WITH MERELY A RESTART OF THE VEHICLE. NO PARTS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED OR REPLACED, HOWEVER THEY HAVE CLAIMED TO PERFORM A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ON AT LEAST ONE VISIT. ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE (CONVERSATIONAL, AND VIA INTERNET OWNERS' FORUMS) SUGGESTS THAT THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD AMONG A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF AUDI'S MODEL RANGE AND YEARS 2005 AUDI A4 3.2 QUATTRO." *TR
ON MY 2005.5 AUDI A4, THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS, THEN THE ILLUMINATION TERMINATES. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF, HOWEVER THEY DON'T FIND THE PROBLEM DURING SERVICE . THE ILLUMINATION FLICKERS, CAUSING OTHER DRIVER'S TO TAKE THEIR ATTENTION FROM THE ROAD AND FOCUS ON MY VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, AS IS A LAW IN ILLINOIS, I AM NOT ABLE TO HAVE A VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH FLASHING OR STROBING WHITE OR BLUE LIGHT, WHICH THIS MALFUNCTION ULTIMATELY DOES. FINALLY, THE LIGHT BEING OUT, CAUSES THE ROADWAY TO BE DARKER AND THUS, MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE. ILLINOIS LAW REQUIRES TWO PROPERLY FUNCTIONING HEADLIGHTS, WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. *TR
THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR ON BOTH FRONT DOORS HAVE RECENTLY SELF DESTRUCTED, LEAVING THE WINDOWS UNABLE TO BE OPENED OR CLOSED. THE CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY EVENT THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM OTHER THAN NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WINDOWS. THE DRIVER'S DOOR WINDOW MOTOR HAS BEEN REPLACED AND THE PASSENGER DOOR WILL BE REPLACED WITHIN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THE INABILITY TO LOWER THE WINDOW HAS CREATED AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR THE DRIVER AND/OR PASSENGERS OF THE CAR. *TR
1) HEADLIGHTS ARE THE MAIN PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS THE TYPE OF LIGHTS THAT MOVE WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL. OCCASIONALLY, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLICKER WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL BUT WILL REMAIN ON. THIS IS A NUISANCE BUT MAY BE RELATED TO THE NEXT, LARGER PROBLEM. THE LARGER PROBLEM IS, ALMOST EVERY NIGHT THERE WILL BE A HEADLIGHT DIP WARNING SIGNAL ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS RARELY WILL THE HEADLIGHTS STAY ON ANYMORE. THEY USED TO DO SO, BUT NOW ONE OR BOTH OF THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FREQUENTLY TURN OFF. WE USED TO BE ABLE TO OVERRIDE THIS BY MOVING THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH ON THE DASH FROM THE AUTO TO THE MANUAL MODE AND OFF MODE. HOWEVER, NOW WE HAVE TO SWITCH BACK AND FORTH MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE HEADLIGHTS TURN BACK ON AND IT TAKES A LOT LONGER NOW THAN IT USED TO. (THE HEADLIGHTS ARE STAYING OFF FOR LONGER PERIODS. ) ALSO, EVEN WHEN YOU LEAVE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN THE MANUAL MODE (RATHER THAN USE THE AUTO MODE AT ALL), THE HEADLIGHTS WILL STILL DIP AND TURN OFF.

I OWN AN AUDI A4 2.0. THIS CAR HAS A PROBLEM OF LOCKING UNEXPECTEDLY AND LEAVING THE DRIVER STRANDED. THE FIRST 2 TIMES I WAS CHECKING MY MAIL AT THE TOP OF THE DRIVEWAY BUT FOUND LOCKED OUT OF THE CAR WHEN I RETURNED TO THE CAR. FORTUNATELY BEING NEAR THE HOME, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE DUPLICATE KEY AND GET IN. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED WHEN MY WIFE STARTED THE CAR AND LEFT THE ENGINE RUNNING TO WARM THE CAR WHILE SHE WAS CLEANING THE SNOW. FORTUNATELY A POLICEMAN STOPPED AND HELPED HER UNLOCK THE CAR BUT THE SITUATION WAS BAD AND COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS. EACH TIME I TOOK THE CAR, THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY MALFUNCTION. THE MOST RECENT ONE WAS A VISIT TO THE DEALER TODAY. THEY SAID THAT AUDI IS AWARE OF A PROBLEM AND HAS PUT OUT A BULLETIN JUST NOW, ON 02/05/10. CHANGING THE ENTIRE LOCKS FOR THE CAR AT $1,500 WAS THE RECOMMENDED SOLUTION. NOW THE CARE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WHEN IT WAS WITHIN THE 50K WARRANTY PERIOD. I CHECKED ON GOOGLE. WHEN YOU SEARCH FOR "LOCKED-OUT AUDI" YOU SEE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF LOCK MALFUNCTION. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE FIXED IRRESPECTIVE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR. IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED OR ELSE A DRIVER CAN GET STRANDED IN A VERY UNFORTUNATE UNSAFE SITUATION. *TR

WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE CYCLED OFF THEN BACK ON THE HEADLIGHTS TURN BACK ON AND MAY FUNCTION PROPERLY OR MAY FLICKER AND FAIL AGAIN. THE PROBLEM BEGAN UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS VERY INFREQUENT. THE PROBLEM NOW OCCURS 50% OF THE TIME WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. TYPICALLY WHILE EXPERIENCING THE FLICKERING HEADLIGHTS I FIND THAT THE SAFEST WAY TO DRIVE IS ONE FAILED HEADLIGHT AS THERE IS THEN NO FLICKERING OF HEADLIGHTS WHICH I WOULD ASSUME IS HIGHLY DISTRACTING TO OTHER DRIVERS. A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR LEFT OR RIGHT DIPPED HEADLIGHT RETURNS HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF RESULTS WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVING TROUBLE GETTING AUDI TO CORRECTLY REPAIR THE PROBLEM. AS THE XENON HEADLIGHTS ARE OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT ON THE CARS THE PERCENTAGE OF CARS WITH XENON BULBS AND HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS MIGHT BE FAIRLY HIGH. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
