ON 2005.5 AUDI A4 WITH HID HEADLIGHTS, THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLICKER AND THEN WILL TURN OFF. CONSOLE WILL REPORT "LEFT/RIGHT HEADLIGHT DIPPED". THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER, AUDI HAS TAKEN NO ACTION TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. *TR
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE. DIPPED HEADLIGHT ERROR DISPLAYS, AND HAPPENS TO BOTH HEADLIGHTS EVENLY. *TR
PRIOR TO STALLING, THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A LOW NOISE, WHICH I HAVE HEARD BEFORE AS A NORM ON COLD DAYS TO WARM UP. *TR
RANDOMLY, AND AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND ROAD CONDITIONS, THE LEFT OR RIGHT LIGHT WILL FLICKER AND GO OUT. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL SAY "DIPPED LIGHT". THE LIGHTS MUST BE TURNED OFF THEN ON TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS ON DARK CURVY HIGHWAYS. SO FAR BOTH HAVE NOT GONE OUT TOGETHER. DEALERS HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT AS THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES OR CANNOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. PROBLEM HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, AND SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE EVENING. *TR
PIRELLI TIRE WITH 20,000 MILES BLEW OUT ON HIGHWAY. *
HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 AUDI A4 SEDAN VIBRATE AND FAIL, SENDING AN ERROR MESSAGE READING "DIPPED HEADLIGHT FAILURE". THIS HAPPENS MORE WHEN IT'S COLD OR WET. VARIOUS ITEMS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. ISSUE IS INTERMITTENT. NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, IF THE DEALER IS CAPABLE OF REPAIRING. I'M LEARNING THAN MANY OTHER AUDI OWNERS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
ENGINE WAS STARVED OF FUEL ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. APPARENT FUEL PUMP FAILURE WITH NO WARNING. POLICE HAD TO DIRECT TRAFFIC UNTIL VEHICLE COULD BE TOWED. $600 REPAIR TO REPLACE AUDI OEM FUEL PUMP. I KNOW OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BY LOOKING AT CARFAX REPORTS. PUMP WAS PREMATURELY DEFECTIVE. MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT FUEL FILTER WAS CLEAN AND FUNCTIONING (NOT CHANGED). ALSO, CAR NOW SHOWS FAULTY FUEL LEVEL READINGS (MAYBE UNRELATED). INCIDENT DATE 12/21/2009. *TR
2005 AUDI A4 QUATTRO. "RIGHT DIPPED LIGHT". RIGHT BULB GOES OUT AND I GET THE WARNING. ITS BEEN HAPPENING RANDOMLY AND WILL NOT STOP. TURNING OFF THE LIGHTS AND BACK ON SOMETIMES CORRECTS THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME. *TR
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING. MESSAGE ON DASH READS 'DIPPED HEADLAMP'. HEADLIGHTS WILL TURN BACK ON IF LIGHT SWITCH IS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AND MANY TIMES NOW, THE LIGHTS HAVE TURNED OFF ON THE FREEWAY OR ON DARK MOUNTAINOUS ROAD SECTION. THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF APPROXIMATELY 100 TIMES DURING A 2600 MI TRIP. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 A4 AND FOR THE PAST YEAR HAVE BEEN GETTING A 'DIPPED HEADLIGHT' WARNING ON MY DASH LCD. WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING, THE DRIVER'S HEADLIGHT WILL FLICKER & SPORADICALLY GO OFF. MY DEALERSHIP SAID TO SHUT OFF CAR, WAIT A MINUTE, AND TURN CAR BACK ON. THIS SEEMS TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE SITUATION, BUT WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING AND THE LIGHTS GO OUT OR FLICKER, IT'S NOT CONSIVE TO PULL OVER AND SHUT YOUR CAR OFF. THE DEALERSHIPS WILL NOT ADDRESS THIS UNDER A RECALL AS THERE IS STILL NOT ONE SET UP. AUDI IS LETTING THEIR LOYAL CONSUMERS DOWN BY PUTTING US AT RISK OF HARM SHOULD WE BE DRIVING AND THE LIGHTS JUST GO OUT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION TO ENSURE DRIVERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH FUNCTIONING EQUIPMENT. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO TRIP. FIRST OCCURRENCE FAULT INDICATED DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG UPPER LIMIT EXCEED. REPLACED DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG AND CONNECTORS. CAR WAS 47 DAYS OUTSIDE 4 YR WARRANTY WITH ONLY 42K MILES. 5 MONTHS LATER LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED AGAIN, LIGHT CAME ON AFTER ONE DAY. SERVICE TECH STATED THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW IF AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. INSTRUCTED TO PUT A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES ON CAR. SCHEDULE TO GO BACK TO DEALER THIS WEEK. *TR
THE LEFT HEADLIGHT OF MY 2006 AUDI A4 QUATTRO HAS THIS ANNOYING -- AND DANGEROUS -- PROBLEM: 1. THE LEFT HEADLIGHT FLICKERS 2. IT THEN TURNS ITSELF OFF 3. THE MESSAGE "LEFT DIPPED HEADLIGHT" APPEARS 4. THE MESSAGE IS CHANGED TO A SIGN INDICATING THAT THE LIGHTBULB HAS FAILED. IF I TURN THE LIGHT OFF (NOTE: WE'RE TALKING ABOUT DRIVING AT NIGHT HERE) AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN, THE LIGHT WILL BECOME NORMAL AGAIN, FOR ABOUT A FEW MINUTES AND THEN THE CYCLE REPEATS ITSELF. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING A LOT RECENTLY WITH THE COLD WEATHER. I CAN'T TELL FOR SURE WHETHER IT IS TEMPERATURE RELATED. MY AUDI DEALER SAID THAT AUDI KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT -- CHANGING THE LIGHT BULB DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
MY CERTIFIED PRE OWNED 2005 A4 HAD THE XENON HEADLIGHTS CHANGED 3 TIMES IN 1.5 YEARS WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. SIX MONTHS AFTER THE 50,000 WARRANTY, THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING AND THEN DIMMED AND FLICKERED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH NO WARNING ON THE DISPLAY. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND BOTH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $430 FOR THE TWO LIGHTS AND $236 DOLLARS INSTALLATION COST. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR ~ 1.7 YEARS AND HAD FIVE NEW HEADLIGHTS. I AM NOT AUDI'S QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT. I ALSO WAS ABLE TO TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON TO GET THEM BACK ON AND ITS VERY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. ITS IS SCARY TO SAY THE LEAST. *TR
I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE A REPEAT COMPLAINT, BUT MS. DEMETER SAYS IT IS NOT ON FILE. 2005 AUDI A4 CABRIOLET, 6 CYLINDER (NORMALLY ASPIRATED). SUDDEN PERSISTENT ACCELERATION. I WAS RAPIDLY ACCELERATING FROM ABOUT 25 MPH GOING UP A HILL TRYING TO MAKE A GREEN LIGHT ABOUT .2 MILE AWAY. WHEN I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION, I RELEASED THE PEDAL BUT THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING. FIRM BRAKE PRESSURE SLOWED THE CAR, BUT IT REACCELERATED UNTIL I BROUGHT IT TO A STOP. I MADE SURE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS IN THE "OFF" POSITION, EVEN THOUGH I HAD NOT USED IT. I DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES TO THE NEXT MAJOR INTERSECTION, WHERE I STOPPED FOR ALIGHT. WHILE I WAS SITTING THERE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, AND IT REDLINED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND REACHED DOWN TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT WAS OUT OF PLACE. I GAVE IT A PULL BUT DID NOT FEEL IT OVER THE GAS PEDAL. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, AND SLOWLY ACCELERATED AWAY FORM THE INTERSECTION. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED, EVEN WHEN I TRIED TO REPRODUCE IT. *TR
DIPPED HEADLIGHT WARNING AND HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING. BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR SERVICE SAID MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED $200-350 BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO TAKE ENTIRE BUMPER OFF. I AM DRIVING THIS CAR BECAUSE MY FORMER 2001 A6 CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO HEADLIGHT PANEL IN WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL FOR. CAR BURNT TO THE GROUND ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN LEAVENING JUST THE FRAME. AUDI COULD NOT HAVE CARED LESS, OFFER ME A $2000 INCENTIVE FOR A NEW OR USED AUDI/VOLKSWAGEN. AFTER READING ALL OF THESE COMPLAINTS DUE TO LIGHT FLICKERING I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY A4. *TR
HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY FLICKER AND THEN GO OUT. TURNING THEM OFF THEN ON WILL ONLY BRING THEM ON FOR A FEW SECONDS. I HAVE HAD BULB REPLACED NO RESULTS, THOUGH VERY EXPENSIVE. MY LAST AUDI BURNED TO THE GROUND DUE TO SIMILAR DEFECT. COULDN'T IMAGINE THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. HAVE REACHED OUT TO AUDI WITH NO RESPONSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4 WHICH WAS PURCHASED JANUARY 30, 2006. HE STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES WHEN SHE PARKED THE VEHICLE AND SAW BLACK SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD. SOMEONE PASSING BY ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A STANDARD FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND WAS SUCCESSFUL. THE FIRE WAS NEAR THE BATTERY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS ELECTRICAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 68,000. UPDATE 12/14/09 *CN UPDATED 12/16/09*JB
2005 AUDI A4 S-LINE'S PROBLEMS: DIPPED HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING & INTERMITTENTLY GOING OUT AND CONDENSATION IN HEADLIGHTS. *TR
I BOUGHT 4 BF GOODRICH TRACTION T/A'S FROM BIG O TIRES IN SAN RAMON, CA FOR MY 2005 AUDI A4 2.0T, AND WITHIN A YEAR (12,000 MILES) THE FRONT TWO WERE SHOWING CRACKS IN THE SIDEWALL, ONE OF WHICH INTO THE CORDS. THAT TIRE GOT REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. THE ASSISTANT MANAGER AT BIG O, JAMES, TOLD ME "IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME", AND "PROBABLY FROM RUBBING AGAINST CURBS". HE THOUGHT THE ONE THAT JUST HAD SURFACE CRACKING AROUND AND NO DAMAGE TO THE CORDS WAS OKAY TO NOT REPLACE "SHOULD BE FINE". ONE AND A HALF MONTHS AND ONE FREEWAY BLOWOUT LATER, IT'S OBVIOUS THE TIRES WERE ALL BAD FOR SOME REASON. THE BACK TWO: ONE NOW SHOWING SAME SIDEWALL CRACKS AND THE OTHER ONE BLEW OUT. FRONT ONE NOT REPLACED IS MORE PRONOUNCED. THE BLOWOUT HAD THE TREAD FULLY SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL. JAMES, WHEN I CAME BACK TO FIND OUT WHAT COULD BE DONE ABOUT THESE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE TIRES, SPENT MOST OF HIS TIME TRYING TO REFUTE THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND EVEN TRIED TO ARGUE THAT THEY WERE THE WRONG TIRE FOR THE CAR (A STUPID ARGUMENT FOR MULTIPLE REASONS, INCLUDING THAT THEY SOLD THEM TO ME AND THAT THEIR WEBSITE STILL RECOMMENDS IT FOR MY CAR....HE CALLS TO THEIR "TECH CENTER" TO PROVE HIS POINT, ONLY TO FIND OUT HE WAS WRONG...WHAT A WASTE OF TIME). NEEDLESS TO SAY THERE WAS NO MENTION OR CONCERN ABOUT MY FAMILY'S SAFETY; A BUSINESS THAT SHOULD MAKE CUSTOMER SAFETY THE #1 PRIORITY SHOULD AT LEAST SAY SOMETHING LIKE "WAS EVERYONE OKAY", OR "I'M SORRY TO HEAR YOU HAD SOMETHING SO BAD HAPPEN". INSTEAD IT WAS JUST JAMES TRYING TO FIND WAYS OF BRUSHING IT OFF, JUST LIKE HE DID A MONTH AND A HALF EARLIER, WHEN A FRIGHTENING FREEWAY BLOWOUT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED PERHAPS IF SOMEONE WHO BOTH KNEW TIRES AND CARED ABOUT A CUSTOMERS SAFETY HAD CHECKED THEM OUT INSTEAD OF THESE DANGEROUS CROOKS. THESE TIRES WERE CLEARLY DEFECTIVE, AND I HOPE THE NHTSA CAN HELP DETERMINE IF THIS WAS A ONE-TIME EVENT, OR IF THERE IS AN ONGOING SAFETY ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES. THANK YOU. *TR
DRIVING AN 2005 AUDI A4 QUATTRO ON A BUSY INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, THE CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND EXPERIENCE ACCELERATION SURGING AND DECELERATION. I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE ROADWAY AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, EEE MOTORS IN SPRINGFIELD VIRGINIA. EEE MOTORS IDENTIFIED A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM, HAD VEHICLE SHIPPED TO AUDI OF ALEXANDRIA FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. AUDI DEALER REPORTED FUEL PUMP NEEDED REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS A LOW PRESSURE FUEL SENSOR. APPEARS TO BE SAME PROBLEM AS THAT WHICH RESULTED IN THE 2004 AUDI A4 FUEL PUMP SAFETY RECALL. PLEASE RECALL THIS MODEL YEAR BEFORE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM OCCURS FOR 2005. *TR
2005 AUDI A4 QUATTRO WAS SERVICED AT DEALERSHIP IN NASHVILLE TN FOR A RECALL OF COIL PACKS. AFTERWARD THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARED. THE CAR WAS SERVICED FOR THE AIR BAG AND A SWITCH UNDER THE SEAT WAS REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. TWO WEEKS LATER THE AIR BAG LIGHT RE-APPEARED. THE DEALER STATES THAT A NEW SENSOR IS NECESSARY. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THAT MANY AUDI OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG SENSOR. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE SAFETY PART AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY AUDI. *TR
I OWN A 2005 AUDI A4. THREE MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND WITH THE ODOMETER AT 24,616, THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT ON MY CAR STARTED SIGNALING A FAULT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, BOARDWALK AUDI IN PLANO, TEXAS, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE UNIT WAS ABOUT TO GO OUT AND THAT THE CAR COULD JUST STOP WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE $1490 AND IT WOULD TAKE UP TO TWO WEEKS TO GET THE TCU BECAUSE OF BACK ORDERS. IF FACT, ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME WAS THAT THEY HAVE HAD TO ORDER SEVERAL OF THESE PARTS (NOTE - AT THIS ONE DEALERSHIP) AND THAT IT HAS TAKEN AT LEAST A WEEK TO GET THEM IN. I ALSO SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR AND SERVICE MANAGER AND THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR 50% OF THE REPAIRS. BOTH REMARKED THAT IT WAS TAKING TWO OR SOMETIMES THREE WEEKS TO GET THE PART BECAUSE OF BACK ORDERS. IT SEEMS LIKE, WITH THAT LEVEL OF INCIDENTS, THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THAT TYPE OF FAILURE WITH LESS THAN 25,000 MILES. II REPORTED IT TO AUDI AMERICA WHO RESPONDED WITH COMPLETE INDIFFERENCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 AUDI A4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE ESTIMATED COST OF $2,000. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE MORE THAN TWO WEEKS FOR THE PART TO BE AVAILABLE DUE TO THE HIGH DEMAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,000. UPDATED 6/15/09 *CN UPDATED 06/16/09.*JB
THE LIGHTS ON MY AUDI A4 3.2 QUATTRO WILL FLICKER AND SOMETIMES GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT TIME. IF I STOP AND PULL OVER THE LIGHTS WILL GO BACK ON, BUT THE LIGHTS WILL FLICKER. SOME DAYS I HAVE THE PROBLEM FREQUENTLY- SOMETIMES I'LL GO FOR A STRETCH OF 5-7 DAYS WITH NO PROBLEMS AT NIGHT. AFTER RECENT RESEARCH I HAVE BEEN LEAD TO THIS SITE TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND MAKE SOMEONE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT MULTIPLE AUDI OWNERS HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM ALSO. I WAS REFERRED FROM FIXYA.COM- AND I HOPE THAT A SOLUTION WILL BE FOUND FOR AUDI OWNERS. THE PROBLEMS THE LIGHTS CAN CAUSE ARE DISTRACTIONS FOR OTHER DRIVERS, AND IT MAY LEAD TO A TICKET OR ANOTHER TRAFFIC VIOLATION FOR SAFETY REASONS. THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND A DIPPED LIGHT WARNING WILL APPEAR ON THE DASH AND IT HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE FOR MY VEHICLE IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS. *TR
MY CAR HAS BEEN TAKING TO SERVICE FOR 3 TIMES WITH A PROBLEM ON THE FUEL SYSTEM. IT MAKES NOISES LIKE GAS GOING OUT OF THE TANK AND WHEN YOU FILL THE GASOLINE INTO THE TANK, SOMETHING HAPPEN THAT IT STOP AND DOES NOT ALOUD YOU TO PUT GAS INTO THE TANK, IT ALSO SPIT OUT THE GAS WHEN YOUR TRYING TO PUT GAS ON THE CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE OWNED CAR FROM DEALERSHIP-AUDI A4 3.0 QUATTRO, 2005. 2 DAYS LATER I COULD NOT PASS REQUIRED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO "CHECK ENGINE" ISSUE-MISFIRE ON A 6TH CYLINDER. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP A FEW DAYS LATER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED TEMPORARILY AND CAR PASSED THE INSPECTION-'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT WAS RESET BY DEALERSHIP. A FEW MONTHS LATER "CHECK ENGINE" ISSUE CAME BACK AFTER SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE (AT 50,000 MILES) WAS DONE BY AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. PROBLEM WAS TEMPORARILY CORRECTED 2ND TIME. IN DECEMBER 2008 AFTER 3RD TIME "CHECK ENGINE" ISSUE, DEALERSHIP PROPOSED TO REPLACE WHOLE ENGINE IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, WHICH WAS DONE. ON FEBRUARY 11, 2009 DRIVING BACK HOME FROM WORK I'VE NOTICED AN EXHAUST GAS SMELL INSIDE THE CAR, CAR WAS SHAKING AND "CHECK ENGINE " LIGHT WAS "ON"/NOT STEADY. I CONTACTED AUDI CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVOCATES TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND START THE CASE. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR 4TH TIME. THEY PERFORMED NECESSARY STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT FAILED (2 SENSORS WERE REPLACED ACCORDING TO THEM AND "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT STILL "ON"). I WAS INFORMED THAT DEALERSHIP DID NOT REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE BACK IN DECEMBER 2008 - THEY ONLY REPLACED LOWER PART OF THE ENGINE KNOWING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH MISFIRE ON 6TH CYLINDER (UPPER PART OF THE ENGINE). AFTER 3 WEEKS OF WAITING AND CONSTANT REPAIRS I AM NOT SURE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED PERMANENTLY. FACTS: CAR WAS PURCHASED AT 49,000 MILES ON APRIL 29, 2008. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT DEALERSHIP FOR 75-80 DAYS OUT OF 10 MONTHS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. TOTAL MILEAGE AS OF FEBRUARY 28, 2009 IS 52,450. *TR
EXCESSIVE MOISTURE IN BOTH HEADLIGHTS. DEALER STATS THAT AN "O" RING HAS FAILED AND INFERS THAT THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM. STATES THAT MOST HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES WILL CLEAR UP WITHIN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. MINE HAVE SO MUCH MOISTURE IN THEM THAT I HAVE WATER DRIPS. THIS CAUSES THE LIGHT OUTPUT TO BE VERY DIM. AUDI HAS A TSB THAT STATES THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED, AND HAS NO OTHER REPAIR SUGGESTION (JUST LIVE WITH THE PROBLEM I GUESS). ALSO, IT APPEARS THAT THIS HAPPENS ON THE 2002-2005 MODELS AS WELL AS THE 2005.5 - 2009 MODELS OF THE A4. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT AUDI DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO ADDRESS. MY 2005 AUDI A4 3.0 QUATTRO HAS 42,000 MILES. WHILE ON VACATION, 300 MILES FROM MY HOME TRAVELING ON PCH IN CALIFORNIA THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. WHILE I WAS GOING UP A SHORT HILL, THE VEHICLE SHIFTED ERRATICALLY, I LOOKED TO SEE THE RPM'S AND THEY FELL TO ZERO. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO RE-START THE CAR. THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I CONTACTED AAA AND WAS TOWED TO A SMALL TOWN WHICH WE HAD PASSED 10 MILES EARLIER. THE SHOP DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A FUEL PUMP FAILURE, BEING NO PRESSURE AND FULL VOLTAGE TO THE FUEL PUMP. $818 LATER, TWO DAYS AND OVER $300 IN RENTAL CAR FEES, HOTEL AND OTHER EXPENSES, MY A4 WAS FIXED. ONCE RESEARCHING ON LINE, THERE WAS A RECALL IN JANUARY 2006 FOR ALL 2003 MODEL YEAR A4, A6 AND PASSATS THAT HAD FAULTY FUEL PUMPS. I HAD THE EXACT SYMPTOMS THAT THESE 2003 OWNERS EXPERIENCED, "SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER." I HAVE CONTACTED AUDI CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY STATE THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE'S VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, IT WOULD NOT QUALIFY FOR REIMBURSEMENT, EVEN THOUGH THE SAME FUEL PUMP WAS BEING USED. I KEPT THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP FOR FUTURE INSPECTION. IF THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A BUSY FREEWAY, THERE WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY BEEN CAR-TO -CAR CONTACT OF SOME SORT. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED APPROX. MID JANUARY, 2009. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING TO THIS FAILURE. SINCE THE LIGHT ORIGINALLY TURNED ON, IT HAS BEEN CONTINUALLY ON, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLES AIRBAG. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE TECHNICIANS DESCRIBED THIS PROBLEM AS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE IN THE 2005 AUDI A4'S. HE STATED THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED SO FREQUENTLY THAT HE KNEW THE PROBLEM BEFORE HOOKING THE VEHICLE UP TO DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT. I JUST RECEIVED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT LETTER DESCRIBING REIMBURSEMENTS FOR CLASS MEMBERS WHO HAVE EITHER REPAIRED OR HAD AN AUTHORIZED AUDI DEALERSHIP DOCUMENT THE ISSUE WITHIN THE 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE WARRANTY FROM DATE OF ORIGINAL PURCHASE OR LEASE. I BOUGHT MY CAR AT 51,XXX MILES AND AM OUT OF WARRANTY WITH NO ACCESS TO THE PREVIOUS OWNERS RECORDS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED AND A FULL RECALL CAMPAIGN SHOULD BE INITIALIZED WITH AUDI OF AMERICA (AOA). FROM WHAT I HAVE GATHERED ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE 100'S IF NOT 1000'S OF A4'S HAVING THIS PROBLEM BUT AOA REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT AND CLAIM THE HEADLIGHTS ARE OPERATING NORMALLY. SOMETIMES THEY WOULD DIP AGAIN AFTER DRIVING FOR A SHORT DISTANCE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AGAIN. I COMPLAINED TO AOA CUSTOMER SERVICE IN EARLY 2013. I WAS TOLD THAT UNFORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A "COURTESY PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT" OF THE COST OF HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT. T I HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE CHECK TO DATE. THE PROBLEM BEGAN WITHIN THE FIRST FEW YEARS AFTER PURCHASE OF THE NEW VEHICLE AND CONTINUE/REPEATS EVERY WINTER FOR THE LAST 7-8 YEARS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OFF AND ON FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS. ALTHOUGH DEALER/AUDI ARE TRYING TO FIX THE VEHICLE THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A 35K PLUS AUTOMOBILE. I AM ONLY LUCKY THAT I STILL HAVE SOME WARRANTY TIME LEFT (VEHICLE IS NOT YET TWO YEARS OLD WITH ABOUT 35K MILES! HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE WARRANTY REMAINING THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY LABOR INTENSIVE THUS VERY EXPENSIVE. *TR
