Audi Corporate and Also Both Local Audi dealers refuse to repair my safety recall that is open on my car.
The contact owns a 2000 Audi S4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V056000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. An undisclosed dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 AUDI S4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH THE LATCH SYSTEM AND THEREFORE WAS UNABLE TO INSTALL A CAR SEAT. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE LATCH SYSTEM KIT WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE WITH THE REVISED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 690803. THE LATCH SYSTEM WAS NOT INSTALLED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,705.
COMMUNICATION FAILURE FROM THE ABS MODULE, IT CAUSES THE ABS LIGHT TO STAY LIT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT FLASHES, WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE ABS DOES NOT WORK ON THE CAR, IT'S A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE UNITS BUT AUDI HASN'T DONE A RECALL. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME I HAVE TO REPLACE THIS UNIT OUT OF POCKET SINCE I'VE OWNED MY 2000 AUDI S4. *TR
ABS SENSOR FAILURE ON 2000 AUDI S4 QUATTRO. LIGHT CAME ON AT 114,213. LEADING TO THE BRAKE LIGHT TO FLASH ALONG SIDE OF IT AND BEEP EVERY OTHER MINUTE WHEN YOUR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. HAVEN'T CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE I'VE HEARD IT COST 1,700. SOME PEOPLE DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM ON VW'S AS WELL AS THE AUDI IN YEARS FROM 1996-2001. *TR
BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK WS-60 TIRES ARE HIDEOUSLY DANGEROUS ON DRY ROADS, AT SPEEDS ABOVE 55MPH, WHEN THEY BEGIN TO LOSE TRACTION. ABOVE 65MPH, THEY ARE TERRIFYINGLY UNSTABLE AND UNPREDICTABLE. NOTE: THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE LM-25 TIRE MODEL. THESE TIRES PERFORM ADEQUATELY. THE PROBLEM IS SEVERE, AND ONLY INVOLVED THE NEWEST MODEL, THE WS-60. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 AUDI S4 WITH BRIDGE STONE BLIZZARD WS- 60 TIRES 235/45/R17. HE STATED WHEN DRIVING OVER 50 MPH THE TIRES DO NOT GRIP AND LOSE TRACTION. BRIDGESTONE WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP HIM .THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING EVER SINCE HE PURCHASED THE TIRES. HE HAD REPLACED THEM 2 TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80000.
ABS BRAKE MODULE HAS FAILED ON MY 2000 AUDI S4. DASH INDICATOR BEGAN FLASHING ON 10/9. ON 10/10 DEALER CHECKED COMPUTER AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT MODULE HAD FAILED. *TR
I OWN A 2000 AUDI S4. MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS AN LCD DISPLAY THAT DISPLAYS INFORMATION LIKE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, POSSIBILITY OF ICY CONDITIONS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS LOW ENOUGH TO WARRANT THESE CONDITIONS, AVERAGE MPG AND OTHER INFORMATION OF THIS NATURE. THIS SCREEN ALSO GIVE SAFETY WARNINGS LIKE BAD HEADLIGHT, TAILLIGHT, LICENSE PLATE LIGHT, WORN BREAK PADS, LOW WASHER FLUID, LOW ENGINE OIL AS WELL AS OTHERS. THIS SCREEN, AS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL, DOES INDEED PROVIDE CRITICAL SAFETY INFORMATION ABOUT THE AUTOMOBILE. *TR

I WAS ON HIGHWAY 93 NORTH GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN I SUDDENLY I HAD TO BRAKE HARD AND AS SOON I HIT THE BRAKES MY REAR BRAKES LOCKED IN AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME I HAD TO RELEASE THE BRAKES AND CHANGE THE LANE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME I WENT HOME DID SOME RESEARCH ON-LINE AND I FOUND OUT FROM ON-LINE FORUMS AND OTHER WEBSITES THAT EVERYBODY WHO OWNS AUDI S4 2000 HAVE SAME PROBLEM THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE NOT JUST A RECALL BUT AUDI SHOULD BEE SUED FOR MAKING A CAR THAT WOULD AND WILL KILL PEOPLE. *TR
I DRIVE A 2000 AUDI S4. TODAY THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. DUE TO THIS I WAS UNABLE TO KNOW HOW FAST I WAS GOING OR READ ANY OF THE VEHICLE SAFETY WARNINGS, WHICH MY VEHICLE'S DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DISPLAYS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. WHILE SPEAKING WITH THE AUDI DEALERSHIP I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE FLAW THAT MUST BE CORRECTED. *TR

2000 AUDI S4 PURCHASED USED AND CENTER TRIP ODOMETER IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. TRIP ODOMETER IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOU VEHICLE INFORMATION SO WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK YOU MAY NOT GET VALUABLE INFO THAT COULD HELP YOU AVOID AN ACCIDENT OR JUST A MAJOR CAR PROBLEM WHICH COULD COST A LOT TO FIX. *TR

DRIVING ON THE ON-RAMP, ABOUT 40 MPH. I WAS CUT OFF FAIRLY AGGRESSIVELY AND HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES HARD. MY BRAKE LIGHT LIT-UP AND BEEPED A FEW TIMES. MY CAR THEN BEGAN TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL ACROSS THE FREEWAY (I-40, A MAJOR TRUCKING ARTERY). LUCKILY I DID NOT HIT ANYONE AND WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE SPIN. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT MY ABS CONTROL UNIT (WHAT A SURPRISE) FAILED, OF COURSE AT THE MOST CRITICAL TIME OF NEED FOR IT. TOTAL COST TO REPLACE WAS $800. AUDI , IN SPITE OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PART ON THIS CAR, WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR RECALLING OR REIMBURSING. *TR

THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE WERE NORMAL DAY TO DAY CONDITIONS THAT GO HAND AND HAND WITH NORMAL CAR USE. THE DISPLAY IN THE CENTER OF THE GAUGE CLUSTER NOW HAS MISSING OR DEAD PIXEL ROWS PREVENTING THE DISPLAY OF MESSAGES SUCH AS, COOLANT LEVEL, BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION, AND ENGINE OIL LEVEL. *TR

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PROBLEM IN 2000 AUDI S4 THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIGITAL SCREEN HAS ALL OF ITS PIXELS MISSING OR MESSED UP. IT IS ESPECIALLY WORSE WHEN THE HEAT INCREASES. THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS TO ME BECAUSE THIS SCREEN TELLS ME WHAT PROBLEMS MY CAR IS HAVING, WEATHER MY COOLANT IS LOW, HEADLIGHTS WORKING, ETC. IT WARNS ME OF NOTHING IF I CANNOT SEE IT. I FIND THIS DANGEROUS TO ME AND COULD ALSO CAUSE MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE CAR. *TR
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE. FAILURE IS CENTER DISPLAY IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS LOST LINES, AND GOES SO DIM AT TIMES THAT I CAN'T READ ANYTHING ON IT. THE DISPLAY GIVES IMPORTANT INFO FOR FAILURES IN SYSTEM, LIKE BRAKES, HEADLIGHTS, OIL PRESSURE LOSS, ETC. AND IF I CANNOT READ/SEE IT I WONT KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 AUDI S4. THE CENTER PIXEL DISPLAY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DOES NOT PROPERLY DISPLAY ALL OF ITS FEATURES. THE DISPLAY BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING AT APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING EVER SINCE. THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE CONTACT NEVER NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON MAY OF 2007. THE CARS INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS WORKING FINE WHEN PURCHASED. ALL THE CARS CRITICAL INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED ON THE PANEL. A MONTH AFTER PURCHASED I NOTICED THAT THE PANEL INTERMITTENTLY FAILS. THE CAR WAS RUNNING LOW ON COOLANT BUT SINCE I COULD NOT READ THE DEPLOY I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL THE CAR OVERHEATED AND THE WATER PUMP BLEW. THE REPAIR ALONE COST ME $800.00. MECHANIC STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOULD HAVE DISPLAYED THAT THE COOLANT WAS LOW. SO I ALSO BELIEVE THIS WOULD BE DANGEROUS BECAUSE ALL WARNING INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED ON THE CLUSTER; BRAKES, TEMPERATURE AND OIL. *TR

PRESENTLY, THE CLUSTER IS UNREADABLE AND THUS INFORMATION VITAL TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE IS NOT AVAILABLE TO ME. (3) WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE) A.NOTHING YET. TO REPAIR THE ITEM A COMPLETELY NEW GAUGE CLUSTER MUST BE PURCHASED. *TR
I WAS GOING DOWN THE STREET AND MY ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND BEEPED 3 TIMES. I GOT OVER AS SOON AS I COULD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO TO AUDI. I WENT UP THERE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THAT CODE BEFORE SO THEY JUST ERASED THE CODE. I LEFT AND WAS GOING ABOUT 10MPH AND LIGHTLY PUT MY BRAKES ON AND MY FRONT BRAKES LOCKED UP, I CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. I IMMEDIATELY WENT BACK TO AUDI AND THEY SAID THAT MY ABS MODULE IS NOT WORKING. IMAGINE IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY BRAKES LOCKED UP. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY PRODUCT CAN YOU REPLACE THE PART. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY TIME I GO TO AUDI JUST FOR AN OIL CHANGE THAT I NEVER LEAVE WITHOUT SPENDING MORE MONEY, BECAUSE THEY FIND THINGS THAT ARE WRONG. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER AUDI OWNERS AND THEY SAY THAT THEY PROBABLY SABOTAGE OUR CARS JUST SO THEY CAN MAKE MORE MONEY. AS I JUST WENT IN FOR A OIL CHANGE AND THEY SAID THAT MY SECONDARY WATER PUMP WAS NOT WORKING. THERE WAS NO CEL (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) I WOULD IMAGINE THAT IT WOULD COME ON IF THAT FAILED. I HOPE THAT THIS ABS CONTROL MODULE DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THIS NON WORKING SAFETY PART. 2000 AUDI S4 CUSTOMER STATES THAT AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS HE DEVELOPED GAUGE CLUSTER PROBLEMS*CC THE FAILURE OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, RESULTED IN THE CONSUMER NOT BEING ABLE TO READ THE FUEL, TEMPERATURE OR ENGINE SPEED. *JB
PIXELS ON MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER BEGAN TO GET SCRAMBLED THE CAR WAS SERVICED LAST MONTH AND BECAUSE I COULD NOT READ THE WARNING LIGHT INDICATING LOW OIL MY MOTOR WAS NEARLY BLOWN. ALL WARNING LIGHTS COME ACROSS THAT PART OF THE CLUSTER AND NO WARNING IS VIEWABLE. *TR
THE 2000-2002 AUDI S4S HAVE A VERY LARGE PROBLEM WITH THE INFORMATIONAL GAUGE CLUSTER SCREEN FAILING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM. IT FAILS TO ALERT YOU OF THINGS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE LIKE BRAKE PAD WEAR, TAILLIGHT MALFUNCTIONS, ENGINE ISSUES, VEHICLE SPEED, TEMPERATE (ISSUE WHEN ITS GETS FREEZING). THIS IS MOSTLY DUE TO RELYING ON THIS SCREEN FOR SO MANY YEARS. MANUAL CHECKS CAN BE DONE OBVIOUSLY BUT IT FAILS WITHOUT WARNING AND THAT CAN BE TO LATE IN MANY CASES. *TR
AFTER HAVING MY FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED ON MY 2000 AUDI S4 AT 92,671 MILES, MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, BUT EACH TIME I DROVE THE VEHICLE. AFTER HAVING THE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM SCANNED, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY ABS CONTROL MODULE NEEDED REPLACED WITH PARTS AND LABOR COSTING $742.58. I'VE DONE RESEARCH TO FIND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH AUDI. I CONTACTED AUDI, BUT THEY DECLINED RESPONSIBILITY.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 AUDI S4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DIGITAL INSTRUMENTAL PANEL DISPLAY HAS LINES ACROSS IT, WHICH PREVENT HIM FROM READING THE SCREEN. THIS IS A PERSISTENT FAILURE. WHEN HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED, HE WAS INFORMED THAT HE NEEDED TO PURCHASE A NEW CLUSTER FOR THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 65,000.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAYING THE DASHBOARD IS UNREADABLE PREVENTING THE OWNER FROM READING VITAL SAFETY ALERTS OR POSSIBLE HAZARDOUS FAILURES OF THE VEHICLE AND/OR ENGINE PARTS/COMPONENTS. ALSO REARVIEW MIRROR HAS TINTING DEFECTS CAUSING OBSTRUCTION OF VIEW. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK IN LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK AND WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WITH A BEEP/CHIME TO LET ME KNOW IT WAS ON AND ABOUT 2 SECONDS LATER MY DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FROM THE SIDE OF THE SEAT. THERE WAS NO COLLISION INVOLVED. I HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT TO CUTS ON MY ARM AND SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED HOME AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE THEN. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE CAR HAS NOT RETURNED ANY OF MY CALLS, THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY SAID IT IS A DEFECT SO THEY DO NOT COVER THE REPAIR. SINCE THEN I HAD THE CAR LOOKED AT BY A PRIVATE LICENSED MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT DUE TO THE DESIGN. THE AIRBAG HARNESS RUNS IN THE SEAT AND THROUGH WEAR OF GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE THE HARNESS WORE AWAY AND SHORTED IT' S SELF OUT AND CAUSED IT TO DEPLOY. WITH NO WARNING THIS HAPPENED AND NOW AS A STUDENT AND FULL TIME EMPLOYEE (MY SCHOOL IS 17 MILES AND MY JOB IS 45 MILES AWAY) I REALLY NEED THIS FIXED ASAP. *JB

AS OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

CENTER DISPLAY ON CAR IS BADLY FADED WITH SEVERAL PIXELS MISSING. MOST OF THE TIME THERE ARE SO MANY PIXELS MISSING IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO READ INFORMATION. THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AS THE DISPLAY SHOWS VITAL INFO ABOUT THE CAR. *TR
DRIVE BY WIRE (DBW) THROTTLE BODY SYSTEM FAILURE. ECU THROWS EPC CODE AND ENGINE POWER IS COMPROMISED. CAR MAY BE UNABLE TO EXCEED 40 MPH AND CAR MAY BUCK UNCONTROLLABLY. RESTARTING CAR MAY CLEAR CONDITION FOR A SHORT TIME. TRAFFIC NEGOTIATION WAS QUITE DANGEROUS, AS DBW SYSTEM MAY ERROR AT ANY TIME. I OWN A MODEL YEAR 2000 AUDI S4. THE CAR HAS APPROX. 80K MILES AND THE ABS CONTROL UNIT HAS RECENTLY STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FAILURES OF ABS UNITS ON AUDI A4 & S4S. THESE FAILURES OCCUR AS EARLY AS 30K MILES. UPON CONTACTING AN AUDI DEALERSHIP IN MY LOCAL AREA, I WAS TOLD THAT THEY SEE THESE FAILURES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. WITH THIS KIND OF FAILURE RATE & AT SUCH EARLY MILEAGE, I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART. I'M AWARE OF OTHER AUDI OWNERS ALSO HAVING FILED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PART. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST A RECALL OF THE AFFECTED AUDI MODELS. *NM

THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE REQUIRING ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THE ABS CONTROL MODULE IN 2000 AUDI S4'S PRIMARILY, ALONG WITH SIMILAR MAKES. THIS POSES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD. FAILURES ARE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE DESIGN OF THE CONTROL UNIT PORTION OF THE ABS MODULE. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS BECOMES THE CAUSE OF MORE POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENTS.*JB
