WAS PUTTING OIL INTO THE ENGINE EVERY 500 MILES FOR ABOUT 2-3 MONTHS AND FINALLY DECIDED ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH. NO ACCIDENTS WITH CAR. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, TECHNICIAN PERFORMED LEAK DOWN TEST ON ENGINE AND NOTICED CYLINDER 1 READING AT 50 PSI AND #2 CYLINDER READING AT 5 PSI. PERFORMED COMPRESSION TEST AND CYLINDER #1 AND #2 FAILED. COMPLETE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE AS REPAIRS COULD NOT BE GUARANTEED. COST WAS OVER $5000. *TR
THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED TO ILLUMINATE IN EARLY APRIL OF 2012. ACCORDING TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, HE SAID THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO A FIRING MECHANISM IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WHICH HAS FAILED. THE MECHANIC RESET THE AIRBAG LIGHT, BUT IT CAME BACK ON ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THE MECHANIC STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WOULD COST $500. UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED, THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE ONLY HAS 100K MILES ON IT. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT, AN ELECTRIC SPORT SEAT UPGRADE, WILL NO LONGER MOVE FORWARD OR REVERSE. THE SEAT WILL STILL RECLINE BUT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED FOR PROPER LEG ROOM. THE MILEAGE WAS 99,500. *TR
AFTER THE RECALL, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA09019 , I BROUGHT IN MY CAR AND THEY ADDED A GROUND WIRE THAT WAS TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH AN INTERMITTENT LIGHTS-OUT WARNING AT THE DASHBOARD. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS, THE ISSUE WAS STILL THERE. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO BMW AND THEY SAID THAT THEY ALREADY ADDED THE GROUND CABLE AND THAT'S ALL THEY COULD DO. THE SAME ISSUE STILL EXISTS. UPON READING FURTHER REGARDING THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARS THE WIRING HARNESSES HAD "MELTED" DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT CREATED BY A FAULTY GROUND CABLE. THE DAMAGE HAS ALREADY BEEN MADE AND BMW REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUES CAUSED BY THIS FAULTY DESIGN. THEY QUOTED ME OVER $800 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HARNESS AND CHARGED ME 1 HOUR OF LABOR @$195/HR TO FIND THAT OUT. THE FAULTY GROUND CABLE CREATED THE EXCESSIVE HEAT CREATING ISSUES WITH THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE REAR OF THE CAR LIGHTS. BMW SHOULD PAY NOT JUST TO PREVENT ISSUES BUT TO PAY FOR ISSUES ALREADY CREATED BY THIS FAULTY DESIGN. *TR
I BOUGHT MY BMW 330I E46 2002 5 YEARS AGO AND NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AFTER THE FIRST DRIVE. AFTER TAKING IT IN TO THE MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THE CODE THAT THREW THE LIGHT ON WAS (P0741). I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR THESE CARS. THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN HORRIBLE GAS MILAGE, HARD SHIFTING AT TIMES AND MOST LIKELY SHORTENED TRANSMISSION LIFE. THIS PROBLEM AS HAS CAUSE MY CAR TO NOT BE ABLE TO PASS SMOG!

RECALL SUMMARY BMW IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002-2005 325I, 325XI, 330I, AND 330XI VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1, 2001, THROUGH MARCH 1, 2005. OVER TIME, RESISTANCE IN THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS MAY CAUSE ONE OR MORE REAR LAMP FUNCTIONS (TAIL LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND/OR TURN-SIGNAL), WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S BODY PANEL, TO STOP WORKING. CONSEQUENCE INTERMITTENT LIGHT OPERATION REDUCES THE ABILITY TO WARN OTHER MOTORISTS OF THE DRIVER'S INTENTIONS. THIS COULD CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LIGHT RESPONDED AND FUNCTIONED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH WHEN SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE SMALL FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS PLUG SHOWED EVIDENCE OF AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, MELTING THE BATCH OF WIRES THAT CONNECTED THE PORT TO THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, RF TIRE SEPARATED (SIDEWALL FROM TREAD) INSTANTANEOUSLY. TIRE WAS CHANGED WITH SPARE. 10 MINUTES LATER LF TIRE BLEW OUT. BECAUSE VEHICLE IS AWD, ALL 4 TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. *KB

REAR RIGHT WINDOW CAME OFF THE TRACK AND BROKE WINDOW REGULATOR. REPLACED WINDOW REGULATOR. TECHNICIAN REMARKED THAT BOTH FRONT WINDOWS ARE MOVING SLOWLY SO WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON ALSO. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2002 BMW 325I FROM SAN FRANCISCO BMW IN 2003, SO FAR I HAVE RECEIVED ONLY ONE NOTICE ABOUT THE RECALL OF THE REAR LIGHT. I WAS UNDER WARRANTY FOR A YEAR, DURING THAT PERIOD THEY DISCOVERED A FAULTY IDLE AIR VALVE AND THEY DID NOT REPLACE IT TRYING TO SAVE MONEY UNDER WARRANTY. I COMPLAINED MANY TIMES TO THEM ABOUT THE STALLING OF MY CAR ON THE STREETS, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. I E-MAILED TO THE MANAGER WHO IGNORED MY COMPLAINT. FEARFUL FOR MY LIFE AND SAFETY I DARE NOT DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY. I CALLED ABOUT THE RECALL OF THE AIRBAGS, THEY SAID IT DID NOT APPLY TO MY CAR, I ASKED THEM TO SEND ME E-MAIL TO CONFIRM, THEY NEVER DID. THEY PUT MY LIFE AT RISK. THE STEERING STABILITY CONTROL ANGLE SENSOR WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE STEERING FAILURE WAS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V438000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: BRAKE LIGHTS) BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH LIGHT BULB SOCKET ASSEMBLIES. DASHBOARD INDICATOR REPORTS RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT NOT FUNCTIONING THOUGH LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONING. REAR RIGHT TAILLIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL HAVE CEASED TO FUNCTION TWICE SINCE PURCHASE ON 10/10/11. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS THIS CAR NOT COVERED BY CURRENT RECALL (11V438000). *TR

WE PURCHASED OUR BMW 325 NEW IN 2002. THIS CAR HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT AND WELL CARED FOR. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 70,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS CAR IS NOW ON IT'S 3RD SET OF CONTROL ARMS ON THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT BMW REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL OR SERVICE NOTIFICATION. OBVIOUSLY THE PARTS THAT ARE BEING USED TO REPLACE THE PREVIOUS PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE "OFFICIAL" BMW PARTS. IF THIS DEFECT WAS NOT DISCOVERED AND FAILED AT SLOWER OR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT COULD CAUSE LIFE THREATENING INJURIES OR WORSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT A RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED BY THE END OF OCTOBER FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. VEHICLE ROUTINELY STALLS WHEN ENGINE IS COLD AND CAR IS PLACED IN REVERSE. WE BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE AND GO OVER THE SLIGHT BUMP AT THE THRESHOLD, AND THE CAR STALLS AND MUST BE RE-STARTED. SEEMS AS IF ENGINE IS IDLING VERY HIGH AS WELL. ONCE RE-STARTED, THE CAR SEEMS TO RUN OK. *KB
MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. I KNOW SOMEONE ELSE WHO HAS THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS I DO AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEIR AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AS WELL. I AM AFRAID THAT IF I WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT MY AIR BAG WILL NOT WORK. I FEEL THAT THIS COULD DEFINITELY BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY. I FOUND THAT MY REVERSE LIGHT WAS OUT LATE IN JULY AND TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT IN THE E46 MODEL AND I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS SOME KIND OF RECALL OR COMPENSATION FOR THE INADEQUACY OF THE REAR LIGHTS IN THIS MODEL. *TR
TAIL LIGHT WARNING APPEARED ON DASH, INDICATING REAR TAIL LIGHT OUT BUT ALL LIGHTS WERE WORKING AS EXPECTED. I REPLACED ALL LIGHT BULBS AND WARNING LIGHT ON DASH WOULD APPEAR INTERMITTENTLY. FINALLY MY REAR BLINKER STOPPED WORKING; I REMOVED THE REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY, AND DISCOVERED A BURNT SOCKET WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE BROWN WIRE, SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A SHORT PERHAPS CONNECTION WASN'T PROPERLY GROUNDED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN HE SMELLED A BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THE EXTERIOR TAIL LIGHTS HAD FAILED.THE CONTACT THEN DISCONNECTED THE WIRES FOR THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE WIRING HARNESS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE OF $1,300. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE TAIL LIGHTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CODE P0741 WAS READ FROM VEHICLE. TORQUE CONVERTER. FROM FORUMS AND DISCUSSIONS ONLINE THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A FAULTY SEAL ON THE E46 BMW. MY VEHICLE CANNOT PASS A EMISSIONS TEST WITH THE LIGHT ON AND IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME. *TR
2002 BMW 325 XI. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR RECALL REPAIR COST *TGW THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL # 11V438000. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, TOO MUCH CURRENT/ELECTRICITY WAS FLOWING THROUGH THE VEHICLE TO THE REAR PANEL. BECAUSE OF THE VOLTAGE FLUCTUATION PROBLEM, THE REAR WARNING LAMP LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENTLY TRIGGERED. THE INVOICE STATED THE CONTACTS, CONNECTORS AND WIRING WERE BURNT, THE CONNECTORS NEEDED TO REWIRED, AND THE CARRIERS AND REPETITIVE GROUNDS WERE REPLACED. *JB

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
CAR WAS DRIVEN DAILY. PARKED IN GARAGE AT 6:30PM. AT 7:20AM THE FOLLOWING DAY IT WAS NOTICED THAT A WHITE VAPOR/SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT GRILL OF THE BMW 330CI. THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN STARTED SINCE BEING PARKED THE EVENING BEFORE. WITHIN MINUTES, THE WHITE VAPOR TURNED INTO HEAVY BLACK SMOKE AND THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. (FLAMES WERE VISIBLE FROM BENEATH THE CAR AS IT WAS PARKED IN A GARAGE) THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AT THE FIRST NOTICE OF VAPOR AND FIREMEN ARRIVED 12 - 18 MIN. LATER, AT WHICH TIME THE FIRE WAS FULLY ENGAGED. TWO EXPLOSIONS EMANATED FROM THE CAR. BMW MASTER MECHANIC DIAGNOSED TAIL LIGHT GROUND WIRING ISSUE: INSPECTION REVEALED THAT WIRES WERE MELTED INSIDE REAR TAIL LIGHT HOUSING AND COULD CAUSE FIRE. RECOMMENDED REPLACING BOTH TAIL LIGHT COMPONENTS BY ADDING AN ADDITIONAL GROUND, CARRIER REPLACEMENTS FOR BULBS. REPLACEMENT SUPPLIES ON WORK ORDER INCLUDED SOCKETS, INSULATION HOUSING, CONNECTORS, SHRINKING HOSE. BECAUSE I WAS AWARE OF MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE, NEGOTIATED A REDUCED PRICE FOR WORK. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN MINUTES, THE INTERIOR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS DISPATCHED AND WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND DETERMINED THE ORIGIN TO BE ELECTRICAL. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL*THE DRIVER OWNED A 2002 BMW 325I. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS FATALLY INJURED AND DIED ON THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A DEFECT IN DESIGN AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HOUSING FIXTURE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO NOTED MY TAIL/TURN SIGNAL LIGHT OUT INDICATOR ON DASH, BUT ALL BULBS WERE GOOD. PROBLEM INTERMITTENT AT FIRST, BUT THEN BECAME CONSTANT ON LEFT LIGHT INDICATOR. WENT ON BMW INTERNET FORUM AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM TO 3-SERIES ASCRIBED TO GROUND NOT GOOD ENOUGH, BURING PIN/PORT ON CONNECTOR. INDEED THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE TAIL LIGHT HOUSING/CONNECTOR. I SPLICED ANOTHER GROUND WIRE TO THE ORIGINAL AND CONNECTED TO THE HOUSING AS DESCRIBED IN THE ONLINE FORUM AND SEEMS TO WORK FOR NOW, BUT I FEEL NOT HAVING AN OPERABLE TURN SIGNAL ON THE REAR OF THE CAR COULD BE DANGEROUS. *TR

THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN EITHER WITH THE KEYLESS REMOTE OR BY PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE INSIDE THE CAR (THE WINDOWS WERE DOWN SO I COULD REACH INSIDE) I HAD TO OPEN THE PASSENGER DOOR AND CLIMB ACROSS THE SEAT TO GET INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THE BUTTON BETWEEN THE SEATS TO UNLOCK ALL OF THE DOORS ALSO FAILED TO OPEN ANY OF THE LOCKS. THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH BESIDE IT STILL WORKED, SO I KNOW THE PROBLEM ISN'T DUE TO THAT FAULTY SWITCH. APPARENTLY THEY ARE ONLY COVERING SPECIFIC VIN'S EVEN THOUGH MY MODEL YEAR WAS MENTIONED. 1. CAR TAIL LIGHTS PERIODICALLY DO NOT TURN ON WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON. SO MY CAR HAS THE TAILLIGHTS OFF IN THE DARK WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. 2. THE FAILURE AT FIRST WAS INTERMITTENT, NOW IS LIKELY PERMANENT. CARS BEHIND ME CAN NOT SEE ME SIGNAL IN TURNING SITUATIONS AND CAN NOT SEE ME AT NIGHT, WHICH COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. OPENING UP THE HOUSING SHOWS THE CONNECTORS BURNED AND PARTS OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING FOR THE CONNECTOR IS BURNED. THE ISSUE HAD TO DUE WITH THE CONNECTOR, WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT HAS TOO MUCH CURRENT FLOWING THROUGH CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT AND BURN OUT THE HOUSING AND THE CONNECTOR. 3. WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTICED, I JUST SWITCHED THE LIGHT BULBS. APPARENTLY THIS WAS NOT THE REAL ISSUE. *TR
BMW 2002 330I 4 DOOR SEDAN. THE RAIN GUTTERS SURROUNDING BOTH THE REAR PASSENGER DOORS HAVE COME LOOSE AND PREVENT THE DOORS FROM CLOSING TIGHT. THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON BECAUSE THE DOORS WILL NOT FULLY CLOSE. BMW SERVICE CONFIRMS THAT THE ADHESIVE HOLD THE GUTTER CLIPS IN PLACE FAILS AS DO THE CLIPS THEMSELVES. IN A CONVERSATION WITH BMW THEY CALL THIS WEAR AND TEAR AND REFUSE TO REPAIR THE GUTTERS! IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE REAR DOORS CAN NOT BE PROPERLY CLOSED. NO DEATH OR INJURY YET BUT THE POTENTIAL IS CERTAINLY THERE. BMW SUGGESTED REPLACING THE GUTTERS FOR $450. WHICH ACCORDING TO THEM IS THE ONLY "CURE" FOR THE FAILURE.
