WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, RF TIRE SEPARATED (SIDEWALL FROM TREAD) INSTANTANEOUSLY. TIRE WAS CHANGED WITH SPARE. 10 MINUTES LATER LF TIRE BLEW OUT. BECAUSE VEHICLE IS AWD, ALL 4 TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. *KB
OWN A 325CI COUPE THAT HAS HAD SEPARATION TIRE SEPARATION ON 3 TIRES BF GOODRICH 225/45R17. ONE TIRE SEPARATED ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO ON THE VEHICLE AND THEN YESTERDAY TWO MORE TIRE SEPARATED. WHEN I REPLACED THIS TWO TIRES THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE OTHER REMAINING TIRE ON THE VEHICLE WAS DOING THE SAME THING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAS BEEN ANY RECALL OR OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS TIRE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED VEHICLES TIRES BLEW OUT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. DURING ONE OF THE INCIDENCES, THE VEHICLE HIT A POTHOLE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 65 MPH BEFORE THE TIRE BLEW OUT. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 35 MPH IN RESIDENTIAL AREA WHEN A POTHOLE CAUSED ANOTHER BLOWOUT. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED MORE THAN NINE TIMES BY AN INDEPENDENT TIRE COMPANY WHO DETERMINED PROBLEMS WERE WITH THE SIDEWALLS. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT THE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. THE DEALERS AND MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO RESOLUTION. UPDATED 7/18/2006 - *NM

MY HUSBAND HAS 2 SETS OF TIRES ONE FOR SUMMER AND ONE FOR WINTER. THE SUMMER TIRES ARE THE ONES WITH THE DEFECT. THE TIRES HAVE ONLY BEEN USED FOR 2 SUMMERS AND THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEN A LOT. THE TIRES STILL HAVE ABOUT 60% THREAD ON THEM. RECENTLY WE NOTICED THAT THE TIRES ARE BUBBLED ON THE INSIDE AND PREVIOUSLY ONE CRACKED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I FEEL LIKE THE TIRES SHOULD STILL BE GOOD FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS, BUT WITH THE BUBBLES I'M AFRAID THEY'LL BLOW UP. THE TIRES ARE DUNLOP W10 18" 235/4018. IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS TWO CONTINENTAL TIRES WERE DAMAGED BY NAILS. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPAIRABLE. THE CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP ACCOUNT MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT THE ROADS IN THE US ARE NOT AS CLEAN AS THEY ARE IN EUROPE AND LOW PROFILE TIRES ON LUXURY CARS WILL ALWAYS BE PRONE TO PUNCTURE OR RUPTURE BY SHARP OBJECTS. CONSUMERS NEED TO BE INFORMED OF THIS RISK BY THE "LUXURY" CAR DEALERS AND THE TIRE VENDORS. IN TERMS OF THE STATE OF THE ROADS IN THE US COMPARED TO EUROPE AND THE DEPRIS OF NAILS AND SHARP OBJECTS ON OUR ROADS, I THINK THIS STATMENT IS OFFENSIVE AND THE TIRE VENDORS ARE JUST NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS. IS THERE A RATING SYSTEM FOR MEASURING THE SAFETY OF OUR ROADS AT AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL? WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE REAR LEFT TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING, ROAD HAZARD CAUSE. *AK *SCC *JB
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE-95 IN NEW YORK I FELT A VIBRATION START IN THE BACK OF THE CAR WHICH GREW VERY QUICKLY. I PULLED OVER TO FIND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE FLAT. I FOUND THE TIRE HAD A SLIT IN THE SIDE WALL HALF WAY AROUND THE TIRE WITH A GAP BETWEEN THE TREAD AND THE BODY CORE OF THE TIRE. IT APPEARS THAT THE TREAD STARTED TO SEPARATE FORM THE TIRE. I CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURES REGULARLY AND KEEP THEM AT THE MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDED PRESSURES. *JB

TROUBLE WITH CONTI-SPORT TIRES
LOW-PROFILE TIRES (SHALLOW ASPECT RATIO) OFFER NO CUSHIONING PROTECTION WHEN ENCOUNTERING POTHOLES. WE HAVE HAD FOUR (4) BLOW-OUTS IN THE FIRST YEAR! TIRE MANUFACTURERS AND CAR MANUFACTURERS PROFIT FROM THIS POOR DESIGN! IT COST US OVER $600 FOR THE FIRST 2 TIRES IRREPARABLY DAMAGED FROM A POT-HOLE! LARGER WHEELS AND LOWER-PROFILE TIRES CAN'T BE CHANGED BECAUSE THE SUSPENSION AND BRAKES ARE TUNED TO THE LOW-PROFILE DESIGN. MY WIFE IS READY TO TRADE IN THE CAR! DRIVERS ARE DISTRACTED LOOKING AT THE PAVEMENT FOR POT-HOLES INSTEAD OF WATCHING OTHER VEHICLES, TRAFFIC SIGNALS, ETC. HAVE THIS SAFETY HAZARD RECALLED!
