VEHICLE AIRBAG WARNING AND PASSENGER SEATBELT WARNING LAMP ARE DISPLAYED SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH PASSENGER "AIRBAG OFF" LAMP ILLUMINATED. AS A RESULT, FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS DISABLED IN CASE OF A CRASH. BMW HAS ISSUED A PARTIAL RECALL ON OTHER MODELS (NHTSA CAMPAIGN 13V-564) CITING A DEFECT WITH REGARDS TO THE SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT BUT WILL NOT HONOR A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE, WHICH IS CLEARLY AFFECTED BY THE ISSUE. WITHOUT REPAIR A CRASH MAY VERY WELL RESULT IN UNDUE PHYSICAL HARM TO A PASSENGER. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK MALFUNCTIONED AS EVIDENCED BY WARNING LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS IMMOBILE AND REQUIRED TOWING. COST FOR REPAIR = $1100.00. REPAIR SHOP SAID THERE WAS A CORE CHARGE FOR THE REPLACED UPPER STEERING COLUMN. THIS MEANS THAT BMW IS BUYING BACK THE MALFUNCTIONED UNITS TO EITHER DIAGNOSE, OR THEY'RE REBUILDING THEM AND MAKING MORE MONEY. EITHER WAY, IT'S AN KNOWN PROBLEM AND BMW ISN'T TAKING THE PROPER ACTION TO ENSURE OWNERS SAFETY. *TR

MY VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE PART OF RECALL ON MAT SENSOR FOR PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEFECT, BUT WHEN I CALLED DEALER THEY SAID MY VIN # NOT IN RECALL.. HOWEVER, I HAVE HAD A WARNING MESSAGE THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AND OR MY SEAT BELT TENSIONER WERE MALFUNCTIONING SINCE LAST JUNE, 2013.. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS), BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. MY CAR WAS HAVING AN OIL LEAK WHEN I SENT MY CAR TO GET CHECK THEY FOUND OUT THE BOLTS ARE BROKEN WHICH I DID MY RESEARCH AND I FOUND OUT IS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT, BECAUSE THIS BOLTS ARE PLACE NO TO BE TAKEN OFF. THIS LEAKAGE HAS MY CAR GOING CRAZZZY WHEN I WASH MY CAR AND I TURN MY FOG LIGHTS ON ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH GO ON MY ENGINE GOES OFF AND SMELLS LIKE IS ABOUT TO BURN THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
I FOUND VEHICLE RECALL VIA INTERNET AND CONSUMER REPORTS. I TOOK MY CAR TO BMW OF FAIRFAX AND EXPLAINED THAT MY BMW 330I 2006 HAD A DEFECTIVE FRONT SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR WITH DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT. AFTER THEY EXAMINED THE SENSOR THEY CONFIRMED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG SENSOR BUT THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. I WAS CHARGED $150 DOLLARS FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND TOLD THAT TO REPAIR THE DEFECT WOULD COST $ 1200. *TR
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THAT BY AIRBAG DISABLED LIGHT FLICKERING ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. AT THIS SAME TIME THE OVERHEAD LIGHT PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED WOULD FLICKER OFF AND ON. SINCE THEN IT IS CURRENTLY ON THE WHOLE TIME, EVEN IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THUS MY PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT. I READ THIS RECALL AND ASSUMED THAT MY CAR WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL SINCE THE RECALL LISTS MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS BEING COVERED. HOWEVER, THE WHEN I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE RECALL LISTS MY MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS BEING COVERED (PLUS I HAVE THE EXACT FAULTS LISTED AS TO WHY THIS RECALL IS OCCURRING) BUT THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT THEIR RECORDS SHOW I AM NOT COVERED. I HAVE A 2006 BMW 330XI SPORT AND WHEN A PASSENGER SITS IN THE CAR, I RECEIVE A PASSENGER AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT. I WAS TOLD BY PARK AVE BMW IN NJ THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY UNDER THE RECALL. RECALL ID # 57362 - AIR BAGS:FRONTAL RECALL DATE AUG 05, 2008 RECALL DATE: AUG 05, 2008 MODEL AFFECTED: 2006 BMW 3-SERIES SUMMARY: BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM, WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL BE ILLUMINATED. CONSEQUENCES: IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REWORK THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT SO THAT EXTERNAL FORCE APPLICATION TO THE SEAT DOES NOT CAUSE A CRACK TO THE MAT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2008. BMW WILL ALSO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES TO 10 YEARS FROM FIRST REGISTRATION WITHOUT ANY MILEAGE LIMIT. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-525-7417. STEERING WHEEL LOCK INDICATOR RENDERS THE VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO START. BMW SAYS THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A REPLACEMENT OF STEERING COLUMN. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AT 25000 MILES. 2 YEARS LATER AT 49000 MILES, THE VEHICLE WILL NEED TO DO IT AGAIN. THIS WILL BE THE 3RD SET OF STEERING COLUMN WITHIN THE LAST 7 YEARS. IT IS CLEANLY A DESIGN AND DEFECT. IT SHOULD BE RECALL. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS AN AIRBAG/SEATBELT LIGHT ELIMINATED ON THE DASH. BMW HAS DIAGNOSED IT AS A FAILED PASSENGER SEAT MAT SENSOR. 2006 330I SPORTS SEATS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ITEM IN 2008. MY VEHICLE WHICH HAS SPORTS SEATS WAS NEVER CALLED FOR THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ALSO EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS ON ALL 3 SERIES MODELS WITH OUT THE SPORTS SEAT OPTION FOR THIS SENSOR, BUT FOR SOME REASON THEY WILL NOT SERVICE MY VEHICLE AS WARRANTY OR RECALL WORK. I HAVE TALKED TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS AND BMW DIRECTLY. THEY SAID MY ONLY OPTION WOULD BE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AND THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE TO WARRANT A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE AND COMBINATION OF OPTIONS. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE! THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN, AS OF RIGHT NOW THE VEHICLES AIRBAG SYSTEM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL NOT FUNCTION IF IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

AIR BAG AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT INDICATOR ON CENTER DASH CLUSTER LIT UP DURING NORMAL DRIVING. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THE AIR BAG SEAT MAT WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO TOLD THAT REPAIR WOULD COST $900. DECIDED TO EAT COST AS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY DURING A CRASH. TOTAL COST FOR REPAIRS: QTY 1 PART# 52-10-7-244-127 BASIC SEAT U 1 COST $385.10 , QTY 2 PART# 52-20-1-964-201 CLIP 13 COST $3.84 , QTY 35 PART# 52-10-945-543 CLAMP 134 COST $$22.40. TOTAL PARTS=$411.34 ; TOTAL LABOR=$554.60, TOTAL BILL FOR REPAIR=$965.94. I WOULD NOT MIND IF THIS WOULD BE THE END OF THE ISSUE, BUT IT IS NOT. I PICKED UP THE CAR FROM DANIELS BMW OF ALLENTOWN ON JUNE 14 2013, AND TODAY (JUNE 21, 2013) THE ISSUE CAME BACK. 7 DAYS AFTER I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED FOR THE ISSUE, THE EXACT SAME ISSUE REAPPEARED. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN OF MINE AS THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF MY CAR IS ALMOST ALWAYS IN USE BY MYSELF OR MY SPOUSE. AFTER DOING A BIT OF READING ON BMW ONLINE FORUMS, I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SENSOR MAT AS INSTALLED IN MY CAR, FOR ALMOST ALL OTHER SEATS CONTAINING THE EXACT SEAT MAT, BUT NOT FOR MY CAR, AND OTHERS LIKE ME. I HAVE GONE ONTO THE BMW NA WEBSITE AND DID A RECALL SEARCH FOR MY CAR AND FOUND THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT APPLY TO MY CAR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR BMW AND THEY SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR ALL SEATS AFFECTED WITHOUT QUESTION. I WILL BE TAKING MY CAR BACK TO DANIELS BMW OF ALLENTOWN FOR COURTESY REPAIR AND HOPEFULLY THEY WILL REPLACE...AGAIN....THE BROKEN MAT FOR FREE. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL NOT BE THE BEGINNING OF AN ONGOING RECURRING ISSUE. *TR
DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED DASHBOARD 'AIRBAG' LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED DUE TO ERROR CODE FOR FAULTY PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT. THE E46 MODEL DOES NOT HAVE TWO INDICATOR LIGHTS; I.E. THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND THE PASSENGER ON/OFF LIGHT, SO THIS MODEL MAY HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM PREVIOUS RECALL DUE TO VERBIAGE DIFFERENCES. DEALERSHIP WARNS AGAINST DRIVING WITH CHILDREN IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNTIL CORRECTED. THIS FAULTY EQUIPMENT IS VERY WELL DOCUMENTED AMONGST THE E46 CUSTOMER BASE, VERIFIABLE VIA INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE USAGE. MY 2006 BMW 330I BEGAN LEAKING OIL. AFTER INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE BROKEN BOLTS. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY CARED FOR. IT HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AND MAINTAINED. AFTER ONLINE REVIEW, THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL BMWS. THE OIL LEAKS ONTO BRAKES, BELTS, EXHAUST, ETC.... CAUSING A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD. THIS NEEDS TO BE ELEVATED TO A RECALL. *TR
THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE (FAULT IN PASSENGER-RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER OR BELT FORCE LIMITER) APPEARED ON THE DISPLAY IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE CAR. EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED THE WARNING APPEARS. THE WARNING REMAINS AS LONG AS THE CAR IS RUNNING. THIS CAR HAS SPORT SEATS. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMS THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE PREVIOUS RECALL. *TR
I WENT TO ADJUST THE VERTICAL POSITION OF THE STEERING WHEEL, AND THE LEVER GEARS BROKE WITH IN THE STEERING COLUMN . NOW THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES UP AND DOWN FREELY WHILE DRIVING. I CALLED BMW AND THEY SAID IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A VERY REPUTABLE FOREIGN CAR REPAIR SHOP AND HE SAID IN HIS 50 YEARS OF FIXING FOREIGN CARS, HE HAS NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY BAD SAFETY ISSUE ! *TR

I HAVE THE EXACT MODEL AND TRIM (2006 330I WITH SPORT PACKAGE) AS THE RECALL, BUT UPON CONTACTING BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, THEY STATED MY VEHICLE'S VIN 'DOES NOT QUALIFY' FOR THE RECALL. I FIND THIS RIDICULOUS, AS IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT (THUS THE RECALL) FOR THE MODEL AND TRIM (SPORT SEATS) THAT ARE IN MY CAR. THIS IS A CLEAR SAFETY DEFECT BUT BMW REFUSES TO REPAIR IT. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE FACTORY REGARDING THE "PASSENGER SEATS AIR BAG COMPONENT FAILURE" BUT NO FURTHER CLAIMS OF RESPONSIBILITY. TOOK VEHICLE TO BMW OF ROCKVILLE WHO CHARGED $400 FOR EXTENDED DIAGNOSTICS TO DETERMINE THE ABOVE. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA REFUSES TO COVER THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE REPORTS OF PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DEFECTS IN PRIOR MODEL 3 SERIES BMWS. ALSO, I WAS ADVISED BY BMW OF NORTH AMERICA THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER 3 SERIES BMW OWNERS, BUT STILL REFUSE TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY. *TR
I WOKE UP ONE MORNING TO START MY VEHICLE AND AS I STARTED MY ENGINE I RECEIVED A WARNING SIGN. THE WARNING SIGN INDICATED A CIRCLE WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT. I THEN NOTICED MY CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS, LEAVING MY CAR IN PARK. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE MY CAR DIAGNOSED AND THEY MENTIONED THAT MY STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HIS ASSISTANCE WITH MY CAR FAILED. HE COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM THAT MY CAR WAS GIVEN. HE THEN RETURNED MY CAR AND MY CAR STILL HAS THIS ISSUE. I HAVE A 2006 325I SEDAN WITH 55,856 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT IN FOR A ROUTINE SERVICE ON 4-18-2013. IT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY ONLY BMW DEALERSHIPS IN ITS LIFETIME WITH ALL REQUIRED MAINTENANCE DONE ON SCHEDULE. THEY CALLED TO NOTIFY ME THAT UPON INSPECTION THEY HAD FOUND THE HEAD BOLT BROKEN BEHIND THE OIL FILTER HOUSING, THE OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET LEAKING AND THE DRIVE BELT TENSIONER LEAKING. I HAD NOT BEEN EXPERIENCING ANY OUTWARD S+S OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY QUOTED ME $3400 TO REPAIR THIS. I WAS SHOCKED THAT A CAR IN SUCH GREAT CONDITION WOULD HAVE SUCH A PROBLEM AT THIS MILEAGE. I ASKED WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN AND ESSENTIALLY WAS TOLD IT IS UNUSUAL BUT DOES HAPPEN. THEY ADVISED A REPAIR IN THE FUTURE. I WENT HOME AND RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND IT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL AND THAT SUBSEQUENTLY BMW HAS CHANGED THE TYPE OF BOLT THEY USE. SO I THOUGHT I WOULD CALL THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE TO FOLLOW UP ON ANY ASSISTANCE FROM BMW. LONG STORY SHORT THEY TOOK THE COMPLAINT BUT BECAUSE I HAVE A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY FOR 3+ YEARS THEY WOULD OFFER NO HELP. YOU KNOW SHAME ON BMW THIS IS MY 4TH BMW AND VERY LIKELY MY LAST DUE TO THIS. BMW RECALL ID # 57362 - AIR BAGS: FRONTAL RECALL DATE AUG 05, 2008 RECALL DATE: AUG 05, 2008 MODEL AFFECTED: 2006 BMW 3-SERIES SUMMARY: BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. IN MY VEHICLE'S CURRENT STATE, IF I WERE TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A PASSENGER PRESENT, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE VEHICLES AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM. BMW STATES THAT THE AFFECTED 3-SERIES STANDARD SEAT VEHICLES WERE PRODUCED BETWEEN FEB 1, 2005 - NOV 30, 2005. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE DEFECTIVE SEAT SENSOR SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE PASSENGERS, AS WELL AS VIOLATES VEHICLE AIR BAG REGULATIONS ESTABLISHED BY THE NHTSA. BROKEN ALUMINUM BOLTS FELL INSIDE OF ENGINE. BOLT IS WEDGED BETWEEN TIMING CHAIN AND GEAR. THE ENGINE IS DESTROYED. KNOWN DEFECT FOR 2006 MODELS, BUT BMW NORTH AMERICA WILL NOT COVER DAMAGE. HAVE CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA THREE TIMES NOW. BMW SWITCHED BOLT TYPE IN FOLLOWING YEARS. OTHERS REPORTING SAME PROBLEM. SAFETY HAZARD. WHAT IF I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR STOPPED?
