FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR MAT/PAD FAILURE. INITIAL INQUIRE WITH DEALER RESULTED IN NO COVERAGE OF REPAIRS DUE TO VIN BREAK. AS OF DECEMBER 25, 2013 NHTSA SHOWS THAT ALL EFFECTED BMW 325XI 2006 WILL BE REPAIRED AT NO COST TO OWNER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN #: 13V-564

THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,150.
1. SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSORS ARE BROKEN. THE INDICATOR SHOWS UP ON THE DASHBOARD EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER HAVE THEIR SEAT BELTS FASTEN. 2. OIL LEAKS FROM PAN GASKET DUE TO THE ALUMINUM BOLTS AND ETC. *TR
I HAVE A PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION PROBLEM. I WENT TO BMW DEALERSHIP LAST WEEK. BUT THEY TOLD ME MY CAR IS NOT ON CAMPAIGN SO I HAVE TO FIX OUT OF MY POCKET. HOWEVER, AS I FOUND ON THE RECALL LIST LIKE BELOW VEHICLE MAKE / MODEL: MODEL YEAR(S): BMW / 3 SERIES 2006 BMW / 5 SERIES 2004-2006 BMW / X3 2004-2006 SUMMARY: BMW IS RECALLING 200,000 MY 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEAT, MY 2004-2006 5 SERIES STANDARD AND SPORT SEAT, AND MY 2004-2006 X3 PASSENGER VEHICLES. DEPENDING ON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT, SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEAD PROTECTION SYSTEM, WILL BE DEACTIVATED AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL BE ILLUMINATED. MY POINT IS WHAT IS DIFFERENT MY CAR SERIES AND ABOVE 3 SERIES WHY MY CAR IS NOT BELONG TO UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY CAR CAN'T FIX AT DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. IF THERE IS EXCEPTION CARS, I THINK IT SHOULD CLEARLY STATEMENT THAT IS WHY OR EXCEPTION REASON EVEN SAME MODEL. SMALL CRACK HAS DEVELOPED IN THE MAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP IS ON. NHTSA RECALL BULLETIN INDICATED THERE WAS A RECALL (REFERENCE NUMBER 08V384000) ON THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS; HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED. CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND THEY SAID THE SAME THING. I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS REPAIR SINCE THEY HAVE A RECALL ON OVER 200,000 VEHICLES AND I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. ESTIMATED REPAIR IS $1,500. PARKED AT AIRPORT 6AM FEB 8 2012, LEFT FOR OVERNIGHT TRIP. GOT BACK NEXT MORNING FEB 9TH 2012 AT 10:30AM. PUT KEY IN CAR PRESSED BRAKE TO START AND WOULD NOT START. GOT 'ELECTRIC STEERING WHEEL LOCK' ERROR ON I DRIVE SYSTEM AND AN YELLOW/AMBER ERROR SYMBOL WITH A STEERING WHEEL AND A LOCK. NUMEROUS AND NUMEROUS REPORTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING ON BMW E90'S WORLDWIDE. *TR
WARNING LIGHT HAS APPEARED INDICATING AIR BAG FAULT. CODE CHECK REVEALS A DEFECT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR. NUMEROUS REPORTS OF SAME FAULT HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR SAME MODEL IN US AND CANADA HOWEVER DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS VIN. BMWNA AND BMW CANADA BOTH DENY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECT FOR THIS VIN. DRIVER AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON 2006 BMW 330I WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH IN CITY AND ITS STILL ON. THE CAR HAVE JUST 19K APPROX MILES. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY VIN DOESN'T HAVE ANY RECALL AND WILL CHARGE ME $171 TO JUST DIAGNOSE . I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND RECALL # 08V384000 ON SAME ISSUE . POSTING ON FEB 7TH 2013. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND I NEED TO GET IT FIXED AS AIRBAG WON'T BE DEPLOYED IN CASE OF ACCIDENT. HOPE BMW FIXES IT . *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR ELECTRICAL CABLE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000. *TR
THE RED PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON, WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. MY BMW DEALER HAS TOLD ME THIS MEANS THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS ARE DEACTIVATED AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BATTERY CABLES WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NOT ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 91,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
I HAVE A 2006 325I. FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS HAS BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH AIRBAG AND SEATBELT LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. BUT NOW IT STARTED TO STAY ON AND CURRENTLY MY PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG IS DISABLED. THE MAT SENSORS FAIL TO FUNCTION. I CALLED BMWNA AND MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT IN THE LIST OF VIN NUMBERS THAT WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE. IT IS VERY COMMON (%75 OF THIS MODEL) TO GET THIS PROBLEM ON THIS YEAR OF 3 SERIES. IT WAS OBVIOUSLY IN DEFECTED PARTS LIST AND CAUSED THE ISSUE AND I AM NOT COVERED. THIS IS NOT A WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS TOTALLY CHEAP QUALITY PART THAT WAS PUT IN THE CAR.WHY? BECAUSE BMW DOES NOT WANT TO COVER EVEN IT IS THEIR FAULT. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING TO BUY A BENZ AFTER THIS KIND OF CHEAPLY HANDLED ISSUES.
NO ACCIDENT EVER OCCURRED, BUT THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A PASSENGER AIRBAG PROBLEM. I EVENTUALLY HAD IT FIXED FOR ABOUT $1100 -- THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD TO BE REPLACED, OR ELSE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. OTHER 3-SERIES IN THAT YEAR RECEIVED FREE REPLACEMENTS OF THE DEFECT, BUT WHEN THEY RAN MY VIN, THEY SAID MY CAR DIDN'T QUALIFY. SEEING AS IT APPARENTLY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THESE OTHER CARS, I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE DISTINCTION IS, AS IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

BMW HAS BULLETIN SIB 65 75 06, AIRBAG WARNING LAMP FOR OC3 SEAT MAT FAULT, THAT COVERS MY CARS BUILD DATE, BUT BMW STATES MY VIN IS NOT COVERED. THERE IS ALSO A CURRENT RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V384000 BUT BMW STATES MY CAR IS NOT COVERED AND REFUSES TO HONOR THE 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE, AS DIAGNOSED BY A LOCAL BMW DEALERS, BUT THEY HAVE FAILED TO COVER IT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS AFFECTING MANY CARS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL. THEY ARE MANY PEOPLE POSTING ON VARIOUS BMW FORUMS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. BMW SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO FIX ALL THE VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT/AIR BAG LIGHT WENT ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR MONTHS, FINALLY THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO GET THE ERROR CODE. IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS AND BMW HAS KNOWN ABOUT IT SINCE 2008. PER THEIR WEBSITE THEY WERE GOING TO SEND OUT RECALL NOTICES TO OWNERS, WE NEVER RECIEVED ANYTHING. BMW NEEDS TO MAKE THIS RIGHT AND FIX THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO OWNERS. *TR
THIS VEHICLE, ALONG WITH HUNDREDS, MAYBE THOUSANDS, OF OTHERS ARE AFFLICTED WITH A KNOWN DEFECT BMW IS WELL AWARE OF (AND HAS SUBSEQUENTLY MADE ENGINEERING CHANGES AFTER 2006) INVOLVING THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK IN E90 AND E91 CHASSIS. AN AMBER OR RED STEERING WHEEL LOCK INDICATOR WILL LIGHT FOR NO APPARENT REASON NOR WARNING RENDERING THE VEHICLE NON-DRIVABLE (NOR TOWABLE) AND NON-STARTABLE. BMW SAYS THE ONLY SOLUTION IS A COMPLETE CHANGE OF THE STEERING COLUMN. A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THE OWNERS BLOG SHOWS HUNDREDS OF OTHER DISSATISFIED OWNERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE A RECALL OF THESE BMW'S BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS DEFECT IN ITS ENGINEERING. AND, FURTHERMORE, SINCE BMW CHANGED THE WHOLE STEERING LOCK SYSTEM IN THEIR LATER MODELS, THEY TOO KNEW OF ITS FAULTS. PROVING THEIR GUILT. *TR
WARNING LIGHT APPEARED INDICATING A STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAULT. A FAULT CODE SCAN REVEALED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM WAS IN FAILURE AND WOULD RESULT IN THE STEERING WHEEL TO COMPLETELY LOCK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME INOPERABLE. *TR THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS DEFECT YET BMWNA ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY TO REPAIR IT. THE NATURE AND EXPENSE OF THE REPAIR IS SIGNIFICANT AS THE ENTIRE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WAS REPLACED TO CORRECT THE DEFECT.
I HAVE A FAULTY PASSENGER SIDE SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILURE, AS DIAGNOSED BY THE LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP. THE FAILURE CODE IS 93C3, AND THE ISSUE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY RECOGNIZED BY THE MANUFACTURER, AND PARTIALLY REMEDIED WITH EITHER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OR RECALL, ALLOWABLE ON ONLY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBERS. THE RECALL / EXTENDED WARRANTY APPLIES TO PARTICULAR 2006 3 SERIES BMW VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO JANUARY 2006. THE 93C3 SEAT MAT OCCUPANCY FAILURE IN MY VEHICLE CAUSES THE AIRBAG AND SEAT BELT LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD OF THE VEHICLE. BMW USA HAS ADVISED THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT IMPACT MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH THE SEATS, AND MANUFACTURE DATE ARE WITHIN THE RECALL PARAMETERS. THE LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP, AS WELL AS INDEPENDENT SHOPS HAVE ALL ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD, BY ALL QUALIFYING MEANS BEYOND VIN NUMBER IDENTIFICATION, BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY, AS THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE AS VEHICLES IMPACTED BY THE REFERENCED RECALL. REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 THE BMW 325I VEHICLE I OWN WAS MANUFACTURED IN AUGUST OF 2005, EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD SEAT. BMW USA HAS STATED WITHIN THE RECALL THAT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE IMPACTED BY THIS ISSUE AND HAS ONLY ELECTED TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE ON A PREDETERMINED SET OF VEHICLES. THE MANUFACTURER, BMW HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THEY ADVISED THAT ALL REPAIRS ARE TO BE CUSTOMER PAID, AND HAVE REFUSED TO HONOR THEIR RECALL. AS OF 1/22/2013, THE VEHICLE REMAINS UNREPAIRED AND A SAFETY HAZARD. MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, AS DOCUMENTED BY NHTSA COMPLAINTS. BMW STATED CONSEQUENCE OF NON REPAIR: IN THIS SITUATION THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY EVEN IF A SUFFICIENTLY SEVERE ACCIDENT WOULD OCCUR AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION PROVIDED BY THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT HIS VEHICLE YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE FRM MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A WIRING MALFUNCTIONING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
FRONT TWO VALVE COVER BOLTS SHEERED OFF CAUSING OIL TO LEAK DIRECTLY ON THE EXHAUST. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I'M GETTING THIS MESSAGE "RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AFFECTING AIRBAG, BELT TENSIONER, OR BELT FORCE LIMITER. CONTINUE TO WEAR THE SAFETY BELT, HAVE THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY THE NEAREST BMW CENTER." USUALLY I HAVE THIS MSG WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER, BUT NOW EVEN WITH EMPTY SEAT IT POPS UP AND TOGETHER WITH THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHTS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE BMWUSA ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THE( NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000) BUT THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THAT CATEGORY ACCORDING TO THE VIN #. I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE THIS MORNING. WHEN I GOT INTO MY CAR, IT WOULDN'T START WHEN I PUSHED THE START BUTTON. INSTEAD IT HAD AN ICON ON THE DASH OF THE STEERING WHEEL WITH A LOCK SIGN ON IT. I PULLED THE FOB OUT AND PUT IT BACK IN A FEW TIMES, TRYING TO START THE CAR EVERY TIME, BUT NO LIFE. THIS IS A VERY WEIRD PROBLEM. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK WOULDN'T RELEASE. I TRIED TO GET IT STARTED FOR OVER 30 MINUTES, STILL UNSUCCESSFUL. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, APPARENTLY IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 06 AND EARLY 07 MODELS OF THE 3 SERIES. IN MID-07, BMW STOPPED PUTTING LOCKS IN THE STEERING COLUMNS. APPARENTLY, THIS PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE ELECTRONIC LOCK POWER DRAW WHEN STARTING THE CAR, AND A SOFTWARE UPDATE NORMALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM. IF THE SOFTWARE UPDATE DOES NOT WORK, BMW REPLACES THE STEERING COLUMN IF YOU ARE UNDER THE WARRANTY. ALL MY UPDATES ARE DONE BECAUSE I TOOK IT TO MY BMW DEALER ON 11/14/12 AND THEY RECHECKED EVERYTHING. AFTER DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A SIMILAR ISSUE OTHERS WERE HAVING WITH THE SAME MODEL CAR 2006 BMW 325I SEDAN E90 SERIES AND THERE IS AN ONGOING RECALL 08V384000. SO I DECIDED TO CONTACT MY LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS COVERED IN THE RECALL THEY SAID NO AND QUOTED ME A PRICE OF WELL OVER 1400 DOLLARS TO FIX. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. AFTER, FURTHER RESEARCH I FEEL THAT MY MODEL IS ALSO AN AFFECTED IN THIS RECALL (08V384000).
