I OWN A 2009 BMW 335I WHICH HAS THE TYPE N54 ENGINE. I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE MAY 2009. I HAVE HAD 2 HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS REPLACED. THE LAST MALFUNCTION JUST OCCURRED AS I WAS AT HIGHWAY SPEED 65MPH + AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO THE LIMP HOME MODE. BECAUSE OF THIS MODE THE CAR HAD A DRASTIC REDUCTION OF POWER, WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I WAS LUCKY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE RIGHT LANE AND LIMP TO DEALERSHIP WITH A TOP SPEED OF 50MPH. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO ME AND OTHER DRIVERS ON HIGHWAY. THE N54 ENGINE IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR BMW, THEIR OWN SERVICE ADVISORS STATE THAT ALMOST 60% OF THESE ENGINES HAVE HAD FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTIONS, RESULTING IN REPLACEMENT. *TR
I LESSEE A BMW 2009 3 SERIES VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL42 RFT 225/45R17 RUN-FLAT TIRES. I HAVE 9,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, PLUS THE TIRES ARE CUPPING SO BAD ITS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A BRIDGESTONE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE DEFECTIVE BUT HE CAN'T REPLACE THEM BECAUSE IT WAS ONLY TIRES IN 2005 ' 2007. THEY HAVE LOST A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THESE TIRES BEFORE, WHY CANT I GET MINE REPLACED? BY THEM'.. "THE LAWSUIT ALLEGES THAT DEFENDANTS SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND PRONE TO EXCESSIVE NOISE AND/OR IRREGULAR WEAR, RESULTING IN THE TIRES NEEDING FREQUENT REPLACEMENT AND CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO RIDE ROUGHLY." ...AND IT GOES ON A NATIONWIDE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT ('SETTLEMENT') HAS BEEN REACHED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC ('BMW NA'), BRIDGESTONE AMERICAS TIRE OPERATIONS, LLC ('BATO') AND BRIDGESTONE CORPORATION ('BRIDGESTONE') (COLLECTIVELY 'DEFENDANTS'), ACCORDING TO THE BMW BRIDGESTONE RUN FLAT TIRE RFT CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT NOTICE. THE BMW BRIDGESTONE RUN FLAT TIRE RFT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REPORTEDLY CONCERNS BMW 2006 AND 2007 3 SERIES VEHICLES ORIGINALLY EQUIPPED WITH BRIDGESTONE TURANZA EL42 RFT 205/55R16 OR 225/45R17 RUN-FLAT TIRES ('TURANZA TIRES,' 'TURANZAS' OR 'TIRES'). THE BMW BRIDGESTONE RUN FLAT TIRE RFT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT (CHANDRAN V. BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC, ET AL., CASE NO. 2:08-CV-02619-KSH-PS) REPORTEDLY ALLEGES THAT DEFENDANTS SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND PRONE TO EXCESSIVE NOISE AND/OR IRREGULAR WEAR, RESULTING IN THE TIRES NEEDING FREQUENT REPLACEMENT AND CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO RIDE ROUGHLY. *TR
THE CAR'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED ON FREEWAY ON-RAMP ACCELERATION LEADING TO A NEAR REAR-END COLLISION BY A FOLLOWING CAR. THIS FAILURE WAS PRECEDED BY LONG-CRANK STARTING AND ENGINE RACING ON STARTING. THE HPFP WAS REPLACED AT 6,000 MILES (10/09). AT 12,000 MILES THE SOFTWARE WAS REPROGRAMMED. (6/10) THE DEALER SAYS IT IS REPLACING THE HPFP AGAIN. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE BMW 335I ENGINE STARTING WITH THE 2007 MODELS AS REPORTED ON THIS WEBSITE. ACCORDING TO A SURVEY OF 300+ OWNERS NEARLY 50% HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 328XI. PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL; YET WHEN THE DRIVERS CELL PHONE RANG THE AIR BAGS INVOLUNTARILY DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT OCCURRED NEXT BUT THE VEHICLE WAS THEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 4,000.
MY BMW TURNED OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR STOPPED. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UPHILL LAST NIGHT AND AN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE NAVIGATION SCREEN SAID REDUCED POWER. I HAD TO SHIFT DOWN INTO THIRD GEAR AND PUT MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR HARDLY KEPT GOING UP THE HILL. I TURNED IT OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN AND ALL SEEMED FINE. ON THE WAY HOME THE SAME LIGHTS CAME ON BUT THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND BEGAN FLASHING AND THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING AND IDLING VERY ROUGH. THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO DRIVE AND HAD ALMOST NO POWER WHATSOEVER. PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN THIS MORNING AND THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON A FLAT BED. THIS WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR ON AN OPEN STRETCH OF HIGHWAY WITH LITTLE ACCESS TO SERVICES AND/OR REPAIR FACILITIES. THE CAR IS A 2009 BMW 335I . ABOUT 23 WEEKS AGO, THE CAR LOST POWER. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NOT A ACCIDENT. WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM AND THE CHANGED THE PUMP. *TR
THIS IS AN UPDATE TO ODI 10290275. MY CAR (2009 335XI) IS YET AGAIN EXPERIENCING LONG STARTING TIMES AND I HAVE HAD ANOTHER ABRUPT LOSS OF POWER. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" ON YET I BELIEVE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IS AGAIN REPLACED. THIS IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM THAT IS RECOGNIZED BY BMW (AS THEY HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS) BUT DOES NOT ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING SAFETY CONCERN OF A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER THAT WILL ULTIMATELY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
DURING ROUTINE DRIVING THERE IS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER DUE TO A DEFECTIVE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THE PUMP HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE BY BMW AND THE CAR IS GOING BACK INTO THE SHOP FOR A SECOND TIME TO REPLACE THE PUMP AGAIN. *TR
2009 BMW 335I HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED ON MAY 30TH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME WITH REDUCED POWER. I SUBSEQUENTLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO MOUNTAIN VIEW BMW ON JUNE 10TH. NEW FUEL PUMP WAS INSTALLED WITH SOFTWARE UPDATE. *TR
2009 BMW 335I, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. 9500 MILES ON VEHICLE. ENGINE IS SLOW TO START. WHILE DRIVING AND RPM ABOVE 3000, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGINE REDUCES POWER SIGNIFICANTLY. IF PUMP WERE TO FAIL COMPLETELY, ENGINE WOULD DIE, LEAVING DRIVER WITHOUT POWER STEERING. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM ON HIGHWAYS WITH DENSE TRAFFIC. AFTER READING INTERNET BLOGS ON VEHICLE, THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR BMW N54 ENGINES. SOME DRIVERS HAVE HAD THE PUMP REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH SAME OUTCOME EACH TIME. *TR
BMW 328I STALLS- NO POWER UPON TAKE OFF AND WHILE DRIVING. *TR
FAILURE OF HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WITH RESULTING LOSS OF POWER AND DRIVABLE. FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ONCE SO FAR AT 10 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP AND APPROXIMATELY 9000 MILES. INITIAL REPAIR WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THIS REPAIR WAS OF NO BENEFIT AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THE HPFP WAS REPLACED WITH A REMANUFACTURED HPFP. *TR
FUEL PUMP FAILED ON BMW 335I. ON THE FREEWAY, CAR INFORMATION PANEL INDICATED "ENGINE MALFUNCTION -- REDUCED POWER" AND THE CAR WENT INTO A LIMP MODE, WITH RADICALLY LOW POWER AND ROUGH RUNNING. BECAUSE OF THE PREVAILING SPEED OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, MY INABILITY TO MAINTAIN NORMAL FREEWAY SPEED DID NOT SERIOUSLY ENDANGER ME OR OTHER MOTORISTS. I AM REPORTING THIS FAILURE BECAUSE I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE SAME FAILURE IS EPIDEMIC WITH ALL APPLICATIONS OF THE ENGINE IN MY CAR. INJURIES ARE INEVITABLE IF THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP IS NOT REDESIGNED. *TR
FOURTH REPLACEMENT OF HPFP ON 2009 BMW 335 XI LESS THAN 12K MILES. LESS THAN 12 MONTHS OLD. *TR
PAINT DEFECT ON NEW CAR, 2009 BMW , PURCHASED ON MARCH 2010. THE PAINT IS PEALING IN 4 PLACES. CAR PURCHASED NEW IN MARCH 2010. MANUFACTURER CLAIMS PEALING IS FROM A "EXTERNAL SOURCE". THIS IS NOT PLAUSIBLE AS PEALING IS IN 4 SPOTS, TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. BMWS OWN WARRANTY VENDOR FOR BODY WORK INDICATED THAT IS WAS "APPARENTLY A PAINT DEFECT ".THE BMW REGIONAL INSPECTOR SAID NO, AN EXTERNAL PROBLEM, DENYING WHAT IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING ( PAINTING )DEFECT.. BMW, OFFERED, A "GOOD FAITH" ADJUSTMENT OF 50% OF REPAIR COST BUT IF IT IS A DEFECT IT SHOULD BE COVERED IN FULL AS PART OF THE WARRANTY. CLEARLY A NEW CARS PAINT ON A BMW SHOULD NOT BE PEELING IN A FEW MONTHS IN 4 PLACES AND BMW SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE AND COVER A PAINT DEFECT. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) I AM THE OWNER OF A 2009 BMW 335I PURCHASED AUGUST 2009. ON APRIL 6, 2010, I STARTED THE ENGINE IN THE MORNING AND WAS GREETED WITH LONG CRANKS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE OF ENGINE FAILURE, REDUCED POWER. THE CAR HAS BEEN FINE BEFORE THIS MORNING AT 7,200 MILES APPROX. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN. THE CAR WAS STILL DRIVABLE. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR STALLED AND COMPLETELY LOSE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY AND ON THE INSIDE STREET CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT THE GEAR IN P AND RESTART THE CAR. I INFORMED THE DEALER ABOUT THE STALL AND ENGINE FAILURE BUT WAS MET WITH NO REGARDS. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT IS A HIGH PERFORMANCE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AS I DO NOT WANT TO BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAVE THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALL AND SHUT DOWN AGAIN. [XXX] *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 328XI. THE CONTACT STATED THE WINDSHIELD EXHIBITED SEVERAL CRACKS VARYING IN SIZE FROM A HAIRLINE CRACK TO CRACKS THE SIZE OF A PENNY. THE DEALER ADVISED HE COULD NOT ASSIST AND ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO VARIOUS ROAD CONDITIONS. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WOULD CONTINUE TO FIND CRACKS ON THE WINDSHIELD ON A DAILY BASIS. SHE BELIEVED THE WINDSHIELD TO BE DEFECTIVE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,500. UPDATED 09/29/10. *LJ
BMW 335I CAR HAS CRANKING PROBLEMS. DEALER RESET COMPUTER. WHILE DRIVING AT HI-WAY SPEED CAR FAILED. POWER WENT TO HALF. SPEED DROP FROM 65 TO 35 IN SECONDS. THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH FUEL PUMP WHICH BMW HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS. CAR HAS 6,600 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 335XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION POWER. THE CONTACT HAD TO DRIVE AT A LOW SPEED TO REACH HIS DESTINATION. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED; AFTER THE RESTART, THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. WITHIN TWO TO THREE DAYS, THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TURBO HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,681 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000. I OWN BMW 320D 2009, MY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE, AS MY CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATE BY ITS SELF, AS I GO DOWN FROM SAY 75 MPH AND RELEASE THE BRAKES, SUDDENLY THE CAR SPEEDS UP AGAIN. THIS IS HAPPEN TO ME SEVERAL TIMES AND BMW SAYS THIS WAS NOTHING I WAS ASSUMING THIS, AFTER COMPLAINED AND COMPLAINED, FINALLY AN IGINUER LOOKED AT MY CAR AND KEPT IT FOR A DAY, BUT ONLY TO SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. IT KEEPS HAPPENING AND HAPPENING AND BMW DOES NOT REACT, AS I MENTIONED TOYOTA IN ONE OF MY LETTERS TO THEM, THEY ANSWERED ME ANGRY WITH WE NOT TOYOTA. TO THIS POINT I KEEP COMPLAINING ND COMPLAINING AND ALSO USE MY OTHER CAR MORE OFTEN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING EAST ON THE NORTHERN STATE PARKWAY, ON FEBRUARY 18, 2010 , NEAR EXIT 42, LONG ISLAND, NY, AT 50 MPH, I HIT A POT HOLE. THE POT HOLE WAS NOT IMPEDING TRAFFIC IN ANY SIGNIFICANT FASHION, HOWEVER, I IMMEDIATELY RECEIVED A FLAT TIRE INDICATION FOR THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. I HAVE RUN-FLAT TIRES, BUT COULD BARELY CONTROL THE CAR. THIS WAS UNUSUAL AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED FLAT TIRES PREVIOUSLY, AND NEVER HAD TROUBLE CONTROLLING THE CAR. NEVERTHELESS, I CONTINUED TO EXIT 42, EXITED THE HIGHWAY, AND PULLED INTO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. UPON INSPECTION IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE TIRE, BUT WAS DUE TO THE RIGHT FRONT ALUMINUM ALLOY WHEEL WHICH HAD BROKEN IN HALF. AT THIS POINT THE WHEEL CONSISTED OF TWO HALVES, THE OUTER HALF ATTACHED TO THE AXLE, AND THE INNER HALF HELD ONLY LOOSELY BY THE TIRE. LATER INSPECTION INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, BUT THAT THE WHEEL, ONLY, WAS BROKEN ALONG AN IRREGULAR CIRCUMFERENTIAL LINE APPROXIMATELY PARALLEL AND 4 INCHES FROM THE OUTER WHEEL LIP (THE LIP WHICH FORMS THE SEAL BETWEEN THE TIRE AND WHEEL). ALTHOUGH THERE WAS EVIDENCE THAT THE WHEEL HAD BENT SLIGHTLY DUE TO THIS POT HOLE IMPACT (OR PERHAPS AN EARLIER IMPACT), THE WHEEL WAS NOT OTHERWISE SEVERELY DEFORMED. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER, ON FEBRUARY 28, 2010. THIS SECOND INCIDENT INVOLVED THE LEFT REAR WHEEL OF THE SAME CAR, BUT OTHERWISE THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE VERY SIMILAR. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, AGAIN ON THE NORTHERN STATE PARKWAY, BUT APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES WEST OF THE FIRST INCIDENT, AS A RESULT OF IMPACT WITH A POT HOLE, THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BROKE INTO TWO PIECES. CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN DIFFICULT. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED 6 DAYS AFTER THE CAR WAS RECEIVED FROM THE BMW DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AFTER REPAIR OF THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WAS INSPECTED DURING THE FIRST REPAIR, AND FOUND TO BE IN DRIVABLE CONDITION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2009 BMW 335I WENT OUT AND I RECEIVED A WARNING SIGN INDICATING REDUCED POWER. THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. POTENTIALLY UNSAFE WITH CARS COMING AT ME AS MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
I BEGAN TO FEEL STRONG RAPID PULSATING AND AUDIBLE VIBRATIONS THROUGH STEERING WHEEL EVERY TIME WHEN I PARK THE CAR. ONCE I EXPERIENCED THE SAME WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 25 MPH WHILE MAKING LANE CHANGE TO THE RIGHT. AND THESE VIBRATIONS AND NOISE STILL CONTINUE TO BE FELT SINCE THEN. *TR
1 ) HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) FAILED WITH NO PRIOR INDICATION. 2 ) THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN INCEPTION AND CORRECTION BY THE DEALER, RESULTING IN STARTING AND ENGINE RUNNING ISSUES FOR THE CAR. 3 ) THE PART WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
2009 BMW 328I. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ISSUES WITH VEHICLE TIRES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CAME EQUIPPED WITH THE EXTRA COST SPORT PACKAGE WHICH INCLUDED 18 INCH SPORT WHEELS AND LOWER PROFILE TIRES THAN THE BASE CAR. THE TIRES WERE MICHELIN RUN FLAT TIRES WHICH WERE INSTALLED BY BMW SO THAT THEY COULD AVOID THE WEIGHT OF THE SPARE TIRE. THERE WAS NO SPARE TIRE, JACK, INFLATION DEVICE OR OTHER BACKUP. THE TIRES HAD ROUTINELY FAILED DUE TO AN INHERENT DEFECT, BEFORE THEIR NORMAL SERVICE LIFE WAS COMPLETE. THE TIRES FAILED IN AS LITTLE AS 8,00 MILES AND A COUPLE HAVE LASTED UNTIL THEY WERE AT 3/32, STILL BEFORE THE NORMAL SERVICE LIFE WAS COMPLETE. THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE, WAS DUE TO A SIDEWALL BULGE THAT DEVELOPED IN THE AREA BETWEEN THE TIRE BEAD AND THE SIDEWALL. AFTER THE BULGE BEGAN, A TEAR DEVELOPED AND AFTER THE TEAR BEGAN, THE TIRES AT THAT POINT OF THE BULGE BECAME UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON AT ANY SPEED. THE CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES AND THE RIGHT REAR TIRE TWICE. *JB
VEHICLE LOST POWER, ENGINE LITE CAME ON. TOOK FOR REPAIR, WAS TOLD SINCE IT WASN'T DOING IT @ TIME I BROUGHT IT IN BMW WOULDN'T REPAIR. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER> SAME THING HAPPENED BUT IT DIED THIS TIME & LEFT ME STRANDED. MY NEW CAR NOW HAS 7,000 MILES AND I DON'T TRUST IT! CALLING THEM TO COME GET IT TODAY. *TR
THE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2009 BMW 335I HAS FAILED AND I BELIEVE IT'S STARTING TO FAIL AGAIN BUT EVERYTIME I TAKE IT IN THEY SAY IT'S FINE AND THEY CANT DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT ACTUALLY FAILS. PROBLEM WITH THAT IS IF IT FAILS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70MPH THEN I'M GOING TO BE IN A WORLD OF HURT. THE PUMP HAS ALREADY FAILED ONCE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 335D (N/A). THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN COLD WEATHER, THE AREA THAT FILTERED THE DIESEL FUEL BECAME FROZEN AND CAUSED THE SENSORS TO FREEZE AS WELL. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,800.
VEHICLE HAD APROX, 3,400 MILES AND BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE LONG CRANKS DURING START UP. FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH I EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT LONG CRANKS BUT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED NORMALLY. WITH 4,800 MILES ON THE VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE IN RIGHT LANE AND THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND A REDUCED POWER INDICATOR SHOWED ON DASH. I WAS ABLE TO LIMP THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, STALLED ONCE DURING TRIP TO DEALER. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED BAD HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND REPLACED SAME DAY. *TR
LONG CRANKS, STUTTERING UPON PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WITH LURCHING SENSATION AND FRONT ENGINE BLOCK SHAKING. IT USED TO OCCUR EVERY DAY BEFORE THEY REPLACED MY FIRST HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AT 2500 MILES. SECOND TIME I HAD LONG CRANKS A FEW TIMES A WEEK WITH LURCHING/STUTTERING SENSATION UPON PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WHILE HI-WAY DRIVING EVERY DAY. I HAVE A 2009 BMW 335I . VIN [XXX]. I'VE HAD MY HPFP REPLACED ONCE. THE SECOND TIME AROUND THEY JUST REPROGRAMMED THE HPFP BUT I STILL GET LONG CRANKS 2 A WEEK WITH LURCHING/STUTTERING ON HI-WAY ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. MY 2009 BMW 335I HAS A SIGNIFICANT LAG-TIME BETWEEN WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AND WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO ACCELERATE. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN THE CAR IS AT A DEAD STOP. WHEN I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL, IT TAKES ABOUT ONE FULL SECOND BEFORE IT LUNGES FORWARD SUDDENLY. THIS IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WHICH I CAN REPLICATE EVERY TIME I PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL FROM A DEAD STOP. THIS IS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, OR WHEN I AM TRYING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER HOW QUICKLY MY CAR RESPONDS TO THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE NOTICED THIS SINCE I PURCHASED MY CAR IN AUGUST 2009. MY BMW DEALERSHIP AND ANOTHER BMW DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS IS NORMAL. I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT THIS IS NORMAL. I OWN A 2009 BMW 335. IT WAS PURCHASED IN EARLY 2009. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE OF THE PART, THERE WAS NO SIGN OF TROUBLE. WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, MY CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER. CONCURRENT WITH THAT POWER LOSS, THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT APPEARED ON MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ADDITIONALLY, AN ICON (IT LOOKED LIKE A TRANSMISSION) LIT UP AS WELL. WHEN THE POWER LOSS FIRST OCCURRED, I WAS IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD TO WORK EXTREMELY QUICK TO GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY, FOR FEAR THAT SOMEONE WOULD HIT ME FROM BEHIND (AS MY CAR SLOWED DOWN). I EVENTUALLY MADE IT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I EVENTUALLY CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST BMW DEALERSHIP. TURNS OUT THAT MY HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. I DID NOT HAVE ANY WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. SINCE THEN, I HAVE PUT 5500 MILES ON THE CAR. MY FUEL PUMP IS STILL WORKING PROPERLY. *TR
SOON AFTER PURCHASING MY 2009 BMW 328I (WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION), I HAD THE DEALER INSTALL BMW CUSTOMIZED 328I RUBBER FLOOR MATS. THE MATS HAVE A FITTED SLOT FOR THE GAS PEDAL AND ANCHORS TO PREVENT THEM FROM MOVING AFTER INSTALLATION. UNFORTUNATELY, THE LENGTH OF THE MAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS TOO SHORT FOR A VEHICLE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION. WHEN YOU DEPRESS AND RELEASE THE CLUTCH, IT CATCHES THE TOP EDGE OF THE MAT AND LIFTS IT UP, COVERING THE CLUTCH AND THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT BACK DOWN, YOU END UP STEPPING ON THE MAT, PARTIALLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE AND/OR CLUTCH WHILE THE CAR IS IN GEAR AND MOVING. I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE THEM ADJUST THE INSTALLATION BUT THEY CAN ONLY MOVE IT A FEW INCHES BECAUSE OF THE GAS PEDAL SLOT, SO THE PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED. I DON'T DRIVE THIS VEHICLE VERY OFTEN BUT LAST MONTH (9/2012) I FINALLY GOT FED UP AND CONTACTED BMW TO LET THEM KNOW THEIR RUBBER MAT DESIGN HAS A SAFETY FLAW AND THAT I WAS FILING A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. THEY RECORDED MY COMPLAINT BUT SAID THERE WOULD BE NO ADDITIONAL FOLLOW-UP. SO, FOR SAFETY REASONS, I HAVE NOW REMOVED THE DRIVER'S MAT FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
CAR HAS A PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM ERROR. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. WARNING COMES ON AS SOON AS THE CAR IS STARTED UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN. THE AIRBAG MAY OR MAY NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
