THE MICRO POWER MODULE IN THE TRUNK WAS BURNT ON MY 2005 530I, NOW MY IDRIVE / AUDIO / NAV AND PDC HAS SHUT DOWN. CAR STARTS AND DRIVES NORMAL, EXCEPT THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ACCESSORIES THAT NO LONGER WORK, WHO KNOW WHAT OTHER DAMAGES (IF ANY) RESULTED FROM A MPM MELTDOWN. I'VE READ SOME HORROR POSTS OF SIMILIAR EVENTS THAT CAUSED EVERYTHING ON THE VEHICLE TO SHORT OUT, WHICH MEANT THAT BASICALLY EVERYTHING CCC / M-ASK / TV MODULE / CD ETC. WHEN THIS HAPPENED ON MY VEHICLE, THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY SWITCHED OFF. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE CAR THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I GOT THIS STRONG ELECTRICAL BURN SMELL FROM THE TRUNK AREA. THE MPM PROBABLY SHORTED OUT DURING THE COURSE OF THE NIGHT. LUCKILY THE CAR DID NOT CAUGHT ON FIRE, CAUSE IT COULD HAVE THEN BURNED DOWN MY APARTMENTS AS WELL, AS THE CAR WAS PARKED NEXT TO MY APARTMENT. FROM WHAT I COULD VISUALLY ACCESS, ONLY THE MPM UNIT BURNED OUT COMPLETELY AND MELTED. I JUST HOPE THAT I KNOCKED THE MPM OUT BEFORE IT COULD CAUSE ANY MORE DAMAGE TO THE CAR'S OTHER ELECTRONICS. MY CAR IS UNFORTUNATELY NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN INTO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO ACCESS THE DAMAGE AND TO GIVE ME A QUOTE TO REPAIR, BUT THEY DID INFORM ME THAT IT IS GOING TO BE A COSTLY AFFAIR. I FIND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT BMW DECIDED TO MOVE THESE MODULES NEWER MODELS FROM THE TRUNK AREA TO THE BODY GATEWAY MODULE WHICH IS A MUCH SAFER ENVIRONMENT. MAKES YOU THINK THAT THEY REALIZED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THE VEHICLE IN PLACING THEM THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. DON'T KNOW IF IT'S SAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD DO TO THE DANGER OF ELECTRICAL FIRE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 525I. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG AND PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
I TURNED ON MY CAR AND A NOTIFICATION APPEARED ON THE IDRIVE THAT THERE WAS A PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILURE. I READ THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS AND CALLED MY LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP TO GIVE THEM MY VIN TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE WOULD BE ON THE RECALL. I FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS NOT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT FITS THE CRITERIA FOR THE RECALL AND IF THIS WOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL WEAR AND MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 545I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT CENTRAL MAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THAT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, IT APPEARS THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS STRUGGLING TO GET TO THE NEXT GEAR. THE RPMS WILL FLUCTUATE UP AND DOWN AND SOMETIMES REV WAY UP BEFORE THE CAR KICKS LIKE I HAVE BEEN HIT. IF I TRY TO ACCELERATE FAST FROM A STOP, THE ENGINE WILL REV UP TO ABOUT 5K RPM AND STOP RESPONDING UNTIL I LET OFF THE GAS AND LET THE RPMS DROP DOWN AND THEN IT WILL KICK INTO GEAR. IF I SLOW DOWN TO ALMOST A STOP AND THEN ACCELERATE IT WILL MOST CERTAINLY KICK, SO I HAVE TO BE VERY CAUTIOUS. I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM WHEN PULLING OUT OF AN INTERSECTION BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL ACT UP (WHICH IS MOST OF THE TIME) AND HINDER MY ACCELERATION. ONCE I GET UP TO CRUISING SPEED (ABOVE 45 MPH) IT RUNS SMOOTHLY, BUT IT HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT I DREAD EVERY TIME I HAVE TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION OR SLOW WAY DOWN. I TALKED TO THE DEALER AND SAID IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION THEN THE SERVICE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. HE ASKED ME WHAT KIND OF GAS I USE AND I SAID SHELL HIGH OCTANE AND HE SAID THAT IS GOOD. OTHER THAN THAT, HE DIDN'T TELL ME MUCH MORE. I WANT TO SELL THE CAR NEXT SPRING BUT WHO WILL BUY IT WITH IT PERFORMING THIS WAY?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 525I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,712. UPDATED 04/22/16*LJ *JS
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG FAILURE MESSAGE. *TR
2005 BMW 545I E60 FAULT IN PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM: THIS MODEL BMW HAS EXPERIENCED A FAULT IN THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND IS NOT LISTED IN THE PAST RECALL WHICH CAN LEAD TO DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AND THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE MAT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT AND UPON A PASSENGER GETTING INTO MY CAR ABOUT A YEAR AGO, I RECEIVED THE ERROR MESSAGE. I SPOKE WITH VARYING BMW DEALERSHIPS (IN DIFFERENT STATES) AND RECEIVED MIXED INFORMATION FROM THE RECALL WASN'T APPROVED YET TO THE CURRENT VERSION OF NO RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE FULL REPAIR COSTS. SPEAKING WITH BMW OF USA, THERE WAS APPARENTLY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER MENTIONED THIS POSSIBILITY TO ME WHEN SPEAKING WITH THEM. AS OF NOW, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS EXPIRED SO SHOULD THIS ISSUE OCCUR ON YOUR CAR TODAY - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FULL COST OF THE REPAIR WHICH IS IN EXCESS OF $1000 AND ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC FEES. THERE IS A VAST AMOUNT OF INFORMATION ON THE POOR QUALITY OF THE PASSENGER SEAT MAT USED BY BMW IN THESE MODELS LEADING TO THIS MALFUNCTION. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THE E60 BMW MODELS WERE NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL WHEN THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AS OTHER MODELS THAT WERE COVERED? THIS CAN GET SOMEONE SERIOUSLY HURT AND BMW IS PLACING THIS RESPONSIBILITY BACK ON THE CONSUMER WHEN THEY ARE AT FAULT. THIS ISSUE CLEARLY SPANS MANY MORE BMW MODELS THAT WERE LISTED IN THE RECALL AND CONSUMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO PAY THE BILL FOR POOR DECISIONS ON BMW'S PART. WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE CAR GAS PEDAL BEGAN TO REV UP ON ITS ON AND THEN THE WARNING LIGHT ALERT "TRANS. MALFUNCTION" THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE REDUCED ACCELERATION. HAVE THE SYSTEM CHECKED BY THE NEAREST BMW CENTER. TRANS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER 2005 BMW 530I OWNERS. WHILE BRAKING VEHICLE IDRIVE GAVE WARNING THAT REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT FAILED AND THEN THAT THE REAR LIGHT HAD A MALFUNCTION. UPON LOOKING AT THE WIRING HARNESS ATTACHED TO THE TAILLIGHT BULB CARRIER, THE BROWN WIRE IS BURNT OUTSIDE OF THE HARNESS. THE RUBBER COATING OF THE WIRE IS BURNT THROUGH AND THE WIRE IS EXPOSED. THE PLASTIC WIRE HARNESS IS BURNT AND MELTED. THE TAILLIGHT BULB CARRIER IS ALSO BURNT AND MELTED. EXACTLY WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MY CAR. THE GROUND WIRE HAS WAY TOO MUCH CURRENT ON IT RESULTING IN MELTING AND POSSIBLE FIRE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE INSULATION INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT HAS COMPLETELY CRACKED AND FLAKED OFF, LEAVING BARE WIRES EXPOSED THAT CAN SHORT OUT AND PRESENT A FIRE RISK. *TR
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE FROM A DEALER ON APRIL 2014. APPROXIMATELY A MONTH LATER, THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIRBAG AUTOMATICALLY DISABLED AND THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FRONTAL PASSENGER SEATBELT ALSO DISABLED AND THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ALSO ILLUMINATED. IN JUNE 2014, MY CAR WAS HIT BY A F150 TRUCK. THE IMPACT WAS SO FORCEFUL, MY CAR WAS KNOCKED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET. NON OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THERE WERE INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD WERE RECALLS AND A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE'S MAKE AND MODEL. I RESEARCHED THE INFORMATION AND DID FIND RECALLS FOR THE FRONTAL AIRBAG AND FRONTAL SEATBELT. I CONTACTED A BMW DEALERSHIP A COUPLE OF TIMES AND I AM TOLD MY VIN DOES NOT SHOW ANY OPEN RECALLS AND THE REPAIRS WILL BE OUT OF POCKET. THESE PROBLEMS APPEARS TO BE DEFECTS WITH THE VEHICLE AND A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. *JS
2005 BMW 525I. PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TOOK VEHICLE TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. CONCLUSION FROM MECHANIC WAS THAT PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT MAT WAS BROKEN PER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA08001. TOOK VEHICLE TO IRVINE BMW FOR REPAIR UNDER EXTENDED SEAT MAT WARRANTY. IRVINE BMW SAID THAT PASSENGER SEAT MAT DID NOT CAUSE MALFUNCTION. REPAIRS WOULD COST $1,075. REPAIRS WERE DECLINED BECAUSE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WOULD CHARGE $400. IRVINE BMW CHARGED A $170 DIAGNOSIS FEE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BMW 530I. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE NEAR THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND DID NOT STATE IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V446000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE SUDDENLY MANEUVERED IN HER LANE, WHICH LED TO THE CONTACT CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF THE SECOND VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS TO THE SKIN DUE TO THE CONTENTS THAT WERE RELEASED UPON AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. TWO PASSENGERS WERE ALSO INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
HELLO, I'VE GOT AN AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO ON MY BMW E60 530I 2005. THE BOARD COMPUTER IT SAYS: "PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM" MALFUNCTION. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN VEGAS AND HE TOOK THE LIGHT OFF, AFTER ONE WEEK IT CAME OUT AGAIN. I'M WONDERING ABOUT MYSELF SAFETY AND MY PASSENGERS AS WELL. I POPPED THE HOOD AND REMOVED THE ENCLOSURE CAP FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP AND DISCOVERED THAT THE WIRING ON THE HARNESS TO THE LIGHT BULB WAS EXPOSED. THE COVERING AROUND THE WIRING HAD DISINTEGRATED IN SEVERAL PLACES. I ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE LIGHT BULB AND RECEIVED AN ELECTRIC SHOCK. I THEN PUT THE LIGHT BULB AND HARNESS BACK INSIDE THE LAMP HOUSING AND PUT THE CAP BACK ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN GLOBAL IMPORTS, AUTHORIZED BMW DEALER IN ATLANTA, GA ON MARCH 11, 2014. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CONDITION OF THE HARNESS WAS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH BMW OF NORTH AMERICA THE SAME DAY. I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, THEY WOULDN'T REPLACE THE PART BECAUSE THERE WASN'T A RECALL.
A PASSENGER ENTERED MY CAR AND SAT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS LATER, A WARNING CAME UP ON MY DASHBOARD ABOUT A PASSENGER RESTRAINT MALFUNCTION. THE SEATBELT SIGNAL AND AIRBAG SIGNAL REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD THEREAFTER...EACH TIME I DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I READ AN ONLINE NOTICE FROM 2008 SAYING THAT BMW ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, UPON ENTERING MY VIN NUMBER ON THEIR WEBSITE, THEY SAID THERE ARE NO KNOWN RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2005 BMW 545I AFTER A WEEK MY SEATBELT AND AND AIRBAG LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OUT, EVEN WITH SEATBELT LOCKED IN, IS THERE A RECALL SO I CAN GET THIS FIX AND FEEL SAFE WHEN DRIVING MY CAR. *TR
THE AIRBAG LIGHT AND SEATBELT LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAIN ON. AUTO SHOP REFERRED ME TO BMW TO HAVE RECALL ON PASSENGER MAT SENSOR ERROR. BMW DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THE RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON 7/3/2009, SO IT IS NOT COVERED AND I NEED TO PAY REPAIR PRICES. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT WORK NOW. *JS
I HAVE LEFT MY CAR AT THE AIRPORT FOR A 2 DAY BUSINESS TRIP. WHEN I DROVE BACK FROM THE AIRPORT, WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, I SAW A BIG PLUME OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR. THE ENGINE KIND OF HESITATED BUT DIDN'T' STALL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO A SAFE PLACE AND CHECK THE OIL DIPSTICK. THERE WAS NO OIL LEFT IN THE OIL COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE ENGINE COOLED DOWN I SAW BLACK LIQUID DRIPPING OFF THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE CAR SMELLED LIKE BURNT OIL. I SPOKE TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES MY CAR AND THEY TOLD ME TO TOW IT TO AVOID ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. THE DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A FROZEN OIL SEPARATOR THAT CREATED A VACUUM LOCK AND PUSHED THE OIL TO BURN THRU THE ENGINE AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. FROM FURTHER DISCUSSION WITH THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR AND LOOKING INTO BMW POSTING FORUMS I REALIZED THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A WHILE NOW WITH BMWS IN COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT BMW HAS RELEASED IN FEB 2009 A SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN SIB 11 08 03 THAT RECOGNIZED, THAT THE DEFECTIVE PART MAY FAIL IN COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS, AND RECOMMENDED TO BMW SERVICE DEPTS REPLACEMENT WITH A NEW BETTER DESIGNED PART. HOWEVER, BMW DID NOT TAKE THE STEP TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE BEEN OR COULD BE AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT. IF I KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN FEB 2009, WHEN MY CAR WAS UNDER THE NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT AT NO COST AND THE ENGINE AND EXHAUST WOULD NOT HAVE GONE THRU THIS NEARLY DESTRUCTIVE INCIDENT. I NOW HAD TO INCUR THIS $1300 REPAIR COST AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE COULD MECHANICALLY INCUR WITH THIS CAR IN THE FUTURE DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION.THE RESALE VALUE OF THE CAR HAS ALSO GONE DOWN AS WELL. I FEEL BMW HAS ACTED IRRESPONSIBLY, IF NOT CRIMINALLY, TO NOT NOTIFY AFFECTED CUSTOMERS ABOUT THIS DEFECT. IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE DRIVING IN THE INTERSTATE AND HAVING A STALLED ENGINE AT 60 MILES AN HOUR. *TR
WHILE BMW HAS RECALLED MANY 2005 BMW 530I SEDANS FOR THE AIRBAG CONCERNS, MY VIN IS APPARENTLY NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LIST. AS SOON AS I STARTED THE CAR, THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT RESTRAINT AND AIRBAG LIGHT SHOWED UP AS A MALFUNCTION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I NOTICE THAT BMW HAD A RECALL ON A SEAT MAT SENSOR ON 200,000 5 SERIES. I ALSO DID SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICE THAT THERE IS A GREAT AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN BECAUSE THE SEAT MAT SENSOR IS BAD THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF I GET INTO A CAR ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A BMW 530I 2005, I TURNED ON THE ENGINE, AND THE "ACTIVE STEERING MALFUNCTION" ICON CAME OUT. FOR SAFETY REASONS, I NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
WHILE BRAKING VEHICLE IDRIVE GAVE WARNING THAT REAR DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT FAILED AND THEN THAT THE REAR LIGHT HAD A MALFUNCTION. UPON LOOKING AT THE WIRING HARNESS ATTACHED TO THE TAILLIGHT BULB CARRIER, THE BROWN WIRE IS BURNT OUTSIDE OF THE HARNESS. THE RUBBER COATING OF THE WIRE IS BURNT THROUGH AND THE WIRE IS EXPOSED. THE PLASTIC WIRE HARNESS IS BURNT AND MELTED. THE TAILLIGHT BULB CARRIER IS ALSO BURNT AND MELTED.
I TURNED MY CAR ON AND IT IMMEDIATELY WARNED ME THAT MY LEFT READ BRAKE LAMP WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. TO BE SPECIFIC, THERE WERE FOUR WARNING LIGHTS ON: ONE FOR THE REVERSE LIGHTS, ONE FOR THE BRAKE LAMP, AND TWO OTHER ONES. ALL FOR THE LEFT LIGHT. I OPENED IT UP AND IMMEDIATELY OBSERVED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS PLUG WHERE THE WIRING MEETS THE BULB HOLDER HAD SHORTED AT THE GROUND WIRE. THE TWO PIECES WERE MELTED TOGETHER, SUGGESTING THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A SMALL FIRE. BITS OF MELTED PLASTIC FELL ALL OVER THE PLACE WHEN I MANAGED TO FINALLY PULL OUT THE PLUG. *JB

THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE PASSENGER SAT IN PASSENGER SEAT FOR THE FIRST TIME AND KEPT STAYING ON SINCE. IN REFERENCE TO THIS THERE IS A RECALL FOR ALL 04-06 5 SERIES FOR A FAULTY SEAT MAT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V384000) AND I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NHTSA BY PHONE, REFERENCE # 521-787. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT FOR SOME REASON MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. I WAS JACKING UP MY BMW IN MY GARAGE USING A PROPER FLOOR JACK ON THE RIGHT SIDE REAR JACKPOINT STAND BUILT TO JACK THE CAR UP FROM THE RIGHT REAR. THE JACKPOINT FAILED AFTER IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES OFF GROUND, AND THE VEHICLE DROPPED BACK TO THE FLOOR WHERE THE ENTIRE JACKPOINT WAS NOW COLLAPSED INSIDE OF THE FRAME. I CONTACTED BMW DEALER IN CHAPEL HILL,NC, AND ALSO BMWNA WHO OPENED A CASE UNDER MY VIN NUMBER, AND HAD ME BRING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION, AND THAT THEY WOULD LOOK THINGS OVER, AND CORRECT THE SITUATION. THE DEALER TOOK 4 WEEKS TO GET BACK, AND TOLD ME THEY NEEDED TO SEE THE CAR AGAIN TO TAKE PHOTOS, AND LOOK IT OVER AGAIN SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER IN CHAPEL HILL, NC (PERFORMANCEBMW). THEY TOOK ANOTHER 4 WEEKS, AND ASKED IF I COULD BRING IT BACK AGAIN AS THEY NEEDED A SPECIALIST WHO TRAVELS TO THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE, AND SO I TOOK IT IN AGAIN A 3RD TIME. I THOUGHT FINALLY THEY WOULD RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, BUT AFTER THE 3RD VISIT THEY HAVE NEGLECTED TO CONTACT ME BACK, AND UPON MYSELF CONTACTING THEM 2 -3 WEEKS AFTER THE VISIT I WAS TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED ,AND THAT BMWNA WOULD TAKE NO FURTHER ACTION INTO REPAIRING MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE WHICH I HAVE READ HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS, AND THEIR IS ABSOLUTELY NO RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY CAR, AND IT WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FRAME DID NOT HAVE ANY DAMAGE WHATSOEVER UNTIL THIS JACKPOINT FAILURE, AND NOW THEY JUST WANT TO NOT RETURN MY CALLS, AND NOT HELP AT ALL. ANYONE LOOKING CAN CLEARLY SEE THE JACKPOINT BROKE ON THE INSIDE, AND YOU CAN SEE THE WELD POINTS THAT HAVE FAILED ON THE FRAME. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR ON A BUMPY ROAD(NORTH RT 18, NJ), THEN SUDDENLY A FRONT PASSENGER DOOR POPPED OPEN DURING DRIVING. I CHECKED WITH THE PARTS DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS ONLY ONE SENSOR FOR THIS CAR. IF THAT'S THE CASE HOW CAN BMW ONLY COVER 200,00 OF THE DEFECTIVE UNITS AND NOT ALL THAT WERE MADE DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. FURTHER, ON THE ONES THEY DID COVER THEY INCREASED THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF ORIGINAL SALE WITH NO MILEAGE RESTRICTIONS? IT SEEMS TO ME A DEAL WAS MADE WITH THE NTSB TO COVER AT LEAST SOME OF THE DEFECTIVE UNITS BUT NOT ALL. BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY PERIOD TO 10 YEARS ON THE SAME PART THAT IS USED IN ALL VEHICLES ON THIS CLASS, INDICATES BMW HAS ADMITTED ALL THE PARTS ARE FAULTY. BMW SHOULD INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES THAT USE THIS PART IN THE RECALL, RECALL #08V384000 NOT JUST A LIMITED NUMBER. ACCORDING TO MY RECORDS THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE, AND WELL BEFORE 2015 WHEN THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY EXTENSION WOULD HAVE EXPIRED. ALSO THIS INDICATES THE REPLACEMENT SENSOR ARE NOT HOLDING UP WELL. IT IS MY OPINION A PROGRAMMING CHANGE SHOULD BE MADE, WHERE THE ONBOARD COMPUTER, CONTROLLING THE AIR BAG, USES A INPUT FROM A SEAT BELT CONNECT SENSOR TO DETERMINE IF THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED? NOT THE FAULTY MAT IN THE SEAT. *TR
