REPLACING THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULB THAT FAILED, I REMOVED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FROM THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EASIER ACCESS TO THE BULB RECESSED DEEP INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING. UPON OPENING THE ACCESS PANEL, I DISCOVERED THE WIRING INSULATION OF MOST OF THE INNER WIRING HARNESS OF HEADLIGHT BRITTLE AND FLAKING OFF, EXPOSING THE BARE WIRES. THE SHORT CIRCUIT PROBABILITY IS HIGH WITH THE EXPOSED WIRES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY.
THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A LOCK WITH AN ELECTRONIC SYSTEM THAT CREATES A "FAULT" NOTICE WHEN NOT WORKING. THE FAULT NOTICE CAN COME ON EVEN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS OPERABLE. APPARENTLY, THE FAULT NOTICE CAN LOCK THE STEERING WHEEL AFTER 10 +/- NOTICES. THE LOCK CAN CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO FREEZE, AND/OR THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN. THERE ARE LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF REPORTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE REPAIR COSTS $850. THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION SHOULD BE A MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM AND A RECALL SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED.
THE PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM/AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON REPEATEDLY. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS NEEDING TO REPLACE FRONT SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT, OC3. THEY SAID MY VIN NOT PART OF RECALL #13V564000 SO I HAD TO PAY LABOR COST. DEALER PAID FOR PART AS A COURTESY. CONTACTED BMW NORTH AMERICA TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR LABOR. THEY REFUSED BECAUSE VIN NOT PART OF RECALL. APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 85,000. MY VIN SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED AS THIS IS SAME PROBLEM, ON SAME YEAR & MODEL OF CAR AS THOSE INCLUDED IN RECALL.
WENT TO REPLACE MY FRONT HEADLAMP BULBS AFTER HEADLAMP FAILURE WHILE OPERATING MY VEHICLE AT NIGHT, ON A WINDING ROAD, IN RURAL TEXAS. MECHANIC PULLED THE "SEALED" HOUSING, AND DISCOVERED THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE WIRES IN THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY HAD FAULTY INSULATION. THE INSULATION HAD "FLAKED" OFF TO THE POINT THAT MANY OF THE WIRES WERE EXPOSED, CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT, AND FAILURE OF THE HEADLAMP. RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ON MANY FORUMS, AND IT IS A COMMON OCCURRRENCE. REPLACEMENT COSTS OF EACH HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY IS APPROX $1500. THE USE OF SUBPAR INSULATION APPEARS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
LH AND RH ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS WIRING INSULATION IS CRUMBLING POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A ELECTRICAL HEADLIGHT FIRE FROM THE EXPOSED BARE WIRES.
FROM TIME TO TIME I AM GETTING A YELLOW WARNING LIGHT INDICATING ELV BLOCKED AND SOMETIMES PREVENTING ME FROM STARTING THE CAR. WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAS STRANDED MANY TIMES. VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 BMW 525I ON A CITY STREET AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN THE BRAKES WERE NON EXISTENT. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST ALL OF ITS PRESSURE AND WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN WITHOUT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I COULD NOT STOP AT THE STOP SIGN AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH BARELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK SO I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION UNDER MY HOOD, I FOUND A BROKEN BRAKE VACUUM HOSE WHICH BROKE APART AND THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. I WAS VERY LUCKY NOT TO BE INJURED.
RETURNING HOME FROM A TRIP TO THE GROCERY, CAR RUNNING FINE, TURNED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, HEARD A NOISE , ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. HAD THE CAR PULLED TO MY GARAGE,, I AM A DIESEL ENGINE REBUILDER SO I DO KNOW ENGINES. I LOOKED THE ENGINE OVER WITH THE HOOD UP, DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE ANYTHING. GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND TRIED TO RE START THE ENGINE, IT ROLLED OVER FINE BUT NO START. I AGAIN LOOKED IN THE ENGINE AREA FOR ANY PROBLEMS. THEN I SAW IT. THE FRONT PULLEY AND CRANKSHAFT WAS CROOKED,, VERY VISIBLE CROOKED. I REACHED DOWN AND GRABBED THE END OF THE CRANKSHAFT AND IT IS BROKEN. NEVER EVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THE CAR ONLY HAS LIKE 71400.00 MILES ON IT. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY. BMW HAS MANY PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ENGINES. THIS IS CLEARLY A MATERIAL FLAW FOR A CRANKSHAFT TO BREAK. I HAVE BEEN READING LOTS OF STORIES ABOUT THEIR ENGINES FAILING OVER BAD MATERIALS USED IN BUILDING BMW ENGINES. I THINK BMW SHOULD FIX MY CAR UNDER A FACTORY RECALL AT NO COST TO ME. THIS CAR HAS COST ME TONS OF MONEY TO KEEP UP, AND I BABY THIS THING. ENGINE FAILED GOING NO MORE THAN 5MPH IN MY DRIVEWAY. I GOT A MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD SAYING STEERING WHEEL LOCK MALFUNCTION. BUT THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING, I GOT SCARED IN CASE SOME THING HAPPENED I NEED YOUR ADVICE.
THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL CAMPAIGN # 13V564000. TRIED TO CONTACT BMW NORTH AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING BECAUSE THE RECALL IS BASED ON VIN NUMBER. IF IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM, BMW SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGED AND FIX THE ISSUE FOR FREE. MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.

VEHICLE IS DISPLAYING A STEERING WHEEL LOCK. A RED WARNING LIGHT WITH A LOCK SYMBOL (UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER) IS ON THE PANEL DISPLAY. THIS IS VERY ALARMING AND DISTRACTING WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT WILL IMPACT THE ACTUAL STEERING. SO FAR THE VEHICLE DOES START UP AND RUNS NORMALLY, BUT THE INDICATOR IS CONSTANTLY ON. I REVIEWED SOME OF THE ONLINE FORUMS AND SOME SUGGEST THAT THIS FAULT COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO NOT START. MY DAUGHTER IS THE ONE NORMALLY DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE GOING TO ASSIST TO GET HER ANOTHER VEHICLE, SINCE I DON'T KNOW IF THIS ONE IS SAFE.

PASSENGER AIRBAG RESTRAINT FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. I LOOKED ONLINE TO FIND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS MATTER ON YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL BUT NOT ON VIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REPLACED THE LIGHTS AND NOTICED THAT THE WIRES HAD FRAYED, PROMPTING THE CONTACT TO TAPE THE WIRES IN ORDER TO AVOID WIRE CONTACTS WHICH CAUSED SPARKS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 530I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROCHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD TO DEPRESS. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,460.
THE RUBBER GASKETS FOR BOTH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND BACK ARE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. THIS MAY CAUSE WINDSHIELD TO FLY OFF WHILE DRIVING THEREBY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE CONTACTED BMW AND THE CASE # IS 1-4829383813.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. MY HEADLIGHT WAS EMITTING SMOKE, UPON CLOSER INVESTIGATION I CAN SEE THE WIRES WERE RED HOT AND THE PLASTIC COATING WAS ON FIRE, NO APPARENT REASON IS KNOW FOR THE CAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON A CITY CAUSEWAY. I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES FOR A RED LIGHT AND HAD NONE. THE PEDAL WAS VERY STIFF AND HAD NO HYDRAULIC ASSIST. I PUSHED THE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD AND DOWNSHIFTED, FINALLY STOPPING ABOUT 8 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE CAR ACTED FINE ALL MORNING UP TO THAT POINT. I HAD NO WARNING LIGHT OR ANYTHING TO ALERT ME TO THE FAILURE. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT BMW ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE ON THE V8 ENGINE BUT NOT FOR THE I6 ENGINE WHICH I HAVE. *TR
RECENTLY THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT (WWW.E6061INGRESSSETTLEMENT.COM). THE SETTLEMENT STATES THAT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE LESS THAN 120K MILES. MY CAR HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND I HAVE A SERVICE RECORD FROM 2015 WHEN THE CAR HAD LESS THAN 100K MILES. BY THE TIME THE LAWSUIT WAS SETTLED AND THE DEALERS WERE ACCEPTING CARS, I CROSSED 120K MILES AND NOW THEY ARE SAYING I'M NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS.
MY PROBLEM STARTED 2 YEARS AGO. AFTER TWO DAYS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND MY NAVIGATION SCREEN STARTED TO FLICKER THEN EVENTUALLY BURNED OUT OVER A TWO WEEK TIME ALSO MY RADIO STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. I DIDN'T HAVE THE 2,000 DOLLARS TO GET IT FIXED. A FEW MONTHS LATER AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF HEAVY RAIN I'VE NOTICED THE DRIVERS FLOOR SOAKED THEN THE CAR WAS HESITANT TO START. THE CAR OVER ANOTHER FEW MONTHS MY WIPERS WOULD CUT ON BY THEMSELVES AND I COULDN'T CUT THEM OFF. IT GOT TO THE POINT THAT I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THE WIPERS WERE STILL WORKING WITH NO KEY IN THE CAR... THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MECHANICS.. NOW MY WINDOW WORK INTERMITTENTLY SOMETIMES THEY WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T ...AT THIS TIME I ALSO SMELL THE ODOR OF A BURNING ELECTRICAL FROM TIME TO TIME.
THE WIRES IN THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY ARE BRITTLE AND BREAK UPON JUST TOUCHING THEM. CAUSING DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS TO FAIL AS WIRES ARE BARE AND TOUCHING EACH OTHER. THIS IS ALSO A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF OUR HOME AND SHUT OFF. ABOUT 25 MINUTES LATER THE CAR EXPLODED INTO FIRE AND BURNED DOWN TO THE GROUND LEAVING THE SEATS AND TRUNK WITH ALL INTERIOR METAL PARTS ON OUR DRIVEWAY. OUR HOME WAS ALSO DAMAGED AS A RESULT OF THIS CAR GOING ON FIRE. THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND NO ONE CAN ADVISE US AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. *TR
THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD A HALO LIGHT THAT BURNT OUT. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT BULB. WHEN I UNSCREWED THE LIGHT BULB, THE WIRING INSULATION FELL OFF AND EXPOSED ALL OF THE COPPER WIRING IN THE HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS. THEY DO NOT SELL A REPLACEMENT WIRING HARNESS AND NOW I'M REQUIRED TO BUY A NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FOR THE PASSENGERS SIDE WHICH COSTS APPROX $1700+ AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. DUE TO THE HIGH COSTS OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, I'M NOT ABLE TO AFFORD IT AND NOW MY CAR WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WHICH HAS PREVENTED ME FROM DRIVING IT. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT THE OTHER HEADLIGHT HAS THE SAME ISSUE FROM READING 100'S OF OTHER FORUM POSTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR VEHICLES. I'VE ATTEMPTED TO FIX THIS ISSUE MYSELF USING ELECTRICAL TAPE BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK FOR LONG. I'VE CONTACTED REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY WON'T TAKE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY APART DUE TO THE AGE OF IT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THE LIGHT BULB BURNT OUT. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED IN 2015 AND I DECIDED TO DRIVE WITH THE HALO LIGHT BULB BURNT OUT BUT THEN THE LOW BEAM BULB BURNT OUT. NOW MY CAR WON'T PASS INSPECTION TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT IN TEXAS.
MY HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES, MANUFACTURED BY HELLA FOR BMW, HAVE CRUMBLING AND DECAYING INSULATION ON THE INTERNAL WIRES. MANY OF THE WIRES ARE BARE, AND CAN CAUSE SHORT CIRCUITS AND FAILURES. ALL OF THE DOZENS OF INTERNAL HEADLIGHT WIRES ARE ROTTEN AND FAILING. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SUDDEN LIGHTING FAILURE AT NIGHT, AS WELL AS THE POSSIBILITY OF SHORT CIRCUIT, COMBUSTION AND FIRE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM ACROSS MANY BMW'S, AND HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OWNERS TO SAFERCAR. *TR
I AM CONTACTING YOU IN AN ATTEMPT TO OBTAIN ASSISTANCE / REMEDY IN THE REPAIR OF A BURNED OUTER TAIL LAMP SOCKET IN MY 2007 530XIT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. ON 12/31/2014 I RECEIVED A RIGHT TAIL LAMP MALFUNCTION WARNING VIA I-DRIVE AND WHEN I ARRIVED HOME I INSPECTED THE RIGHT TAIL LAMP ASSY AND FOUND THE OUTER TAIL LAMP BULB SOCKET CONTACTS TO BE MELTED AND NO LONGER MAKING CONTACT WITH THE BULB HOLDER. THE STOCK AND ORIGINAL BULB TESTED FAULTY. UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO THE DAMAGED AND MELTED CONTACT ON THE SOCKET ASSY, THE BMW REPLACEMENT BULB WILL NOT FUNCTION EITHER. I HAVE A PHOTO OF THE SOCKET ASSY SHOULD IT BE NEEDED FOR INVESTIGATION. AS IS THE CASE WITH THE 2008-2010 E60 & E61 MODELS, THERE HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIAL FAILURES IN THE REAR LIGHTING SYSTEM RESULTING IN A RECALL. I FEEL THAT THIS FAILURE REDUCES THE VEHICLES ABILITY TO WARN OTHER MOTORISTS OF THE DRIVER'S INTENTIONS, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR A POTENTIAL RECALL ON PRE LCI E61 MODELS. *TR
ALL ACTIVE XENON HEADLIGHT WIRING PROTECTIVE COATING IS/HAS FLAKED OFF EXPOSING WIRES, MAKING IT VULNERABLE TO ELECTRICAL SHORT, LOSE OF DRIVING LIGHTS AND POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD . *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
I HAVE A BMW 525I 2007, WHICH WAS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE BOUGHT FROM EAST BAY BMW. AROUND 71,000 MILES, THE 'STEERING WHEEL LOCK MALFUNCTION' LIGHT CAME ON (RED COLOR). THE CAR IS DRIVABLE, AND WORKS FINE, HOWEVER, THE LIGHT IS STILL ON WITH A WARNING THAT THE ENGINE MAY NOT START. I ASKED BMW OF MOUNTAIN VIEW FOR A QUOTE. THEY SAY THAT THE ELV LOCK (STEERING WHEEL LOCK) AND SCREWS NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1521.49!! THAT'S INSANE. I SEE MANY MANY OTHER BMW OWNERS COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. MANY OWNERS SAY THAT SIMPLY REPROGRAMMING THE CAS (CAR ACCESS SYSTEM) MODULE FIXED THE PROBLEM. BMW OF MOUNTAIN VIEW SAID THAT THEY WILL CHARGE $200 FOR THE REPROGRAMMING, WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. I RECEIVED A "PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM" MALFUNCTION ERROR ON MY 2007 BMW 530I. I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE, RECALL ID # 99695, HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAVE "COMFORT SEATS." AN INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS QUITE COMMON FOR OTHER 2006 & 2007 BMW 5 SERIES SEDANS WITHOUT "COMFORT SEATS." *TR
MY 7 YEAR OLD BMW WILL NOT START DUE TO TIMING AND VALVE ISSUES - IT'S A PART THAT'S BEEN RECALLED IN 2010 CARS, AND IS ALSO OCCURRING IN 2007 CARS (BUT THAT YEAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL). 2007 BMW 525XI MODEL NOT LIMITED TO OR EXCLUSIVE OF THIS MAKE/MODEL BUT HAS A KNOWN ISSUE WHERE A RED LIGHT INDICATOR APPEARS ON THE DASH SIGNALING AN ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN FAULT HAS OCCURRED, DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE OFF OR THE CAR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE STARTED AGAIN, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL BMW SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THIS HAS YET TO MAKE IT ON THE NHTSA DATABASE AS AN OFFICIAL RECALL BUT I HAVE RESEARCHED AND MADE NOTE OF SEVERAL HUNDRED CUSTOMERS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE ON THEIR BMW. THIS COULD LEAVE YOU IN A DANGEROUS POSITION IF YOU NEEDED TO LEAVE AN AREA AND WERE UNABLE TO START YOUR CAR AND IT COULD LEAVE YOU STRANDED AS IT COULD CAUSE A NO START SITUATION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND OPENED THE SUNROOF. THE NIGHT BEFORE THERE WAS A MASSIVE RAIN STORM. SHORTLY AFTER OPENING THE SUNROOF THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED SEVERELY MALFUNCTIONING. A WARNING SIGN CAME ON THAT SAID THAT THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS HAVING A MASSIVE MALFUNCTION AND THAT I SHOULD PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY. THE WATER FROM THE STORM DRAINED INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND SHORTED IT. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR AND BMW IS AWARE OF IT. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS STORED NEAR THE DRAINS IN THE LOWER REAR OF THE CAR.
ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK MESSAGE APPEARED WHILE CAR WAS STATIONARY. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO MECHANIC WHO SAID THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL COULD LOCK AT ANY TIME INCLUDING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THEN BROUGHT CAR TO BMW DEALER WHO ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE CURRENT AIRBAG RECALL. THERE IS ALREADY A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS WHICH STATES "IF DEFECTIVE, WHICH WAS COMMON, THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED". IT ALSO STATES THAT THESE LOCK MECHANISMS WERE ONLY USED IN PRODUCTION YEAR 2006. BMW STOPPED USING THESE ELECTRONIC MECHANISMS BECAUSE THEY KNEW IT WAS UNSAFE. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER POSTS HERE AND ONLINE WHERE PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. I'M HOPING YOU WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS MATTER SOON BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 BMW 525I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ELECTRONIC SEAT CONTROL SWITCH WOULD REVERSE WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SEAT FORWARD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY VEHICLE FAILED TO START BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED ACCORDING TO THE INDICATOR ON THE DASH. THE INDICATOR HAD THE LETTERS ELV WITH A PICTURE OF A STEERING WHEEL WITH A LOCK. IT STATED THAT FOR SAFETY REASONS THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND IN ORDER TO START IT RECOMMENDED THAT I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE WARNING WAS IN YELLOW AND SEVERAL TIMES IN RED. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS FOR THE FEAR THAT I WILL BECOME STRANDED IF THE VEHICLE WON'T START. *TR
WE WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO BE AWARE THAT MYSELF AND A FEW COLLEAGUES OWN BMW AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. BMW HAS PURPOSELY BUILT THESE VEHICLES TO FAIL AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD WHEN A FEW MONTHS AFTER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS SPECIFICALLY WITH THE SEALS AROUND ALL ALL WINDOWS INCLUDING WINDSHIELD AND REAR WINDOW AS WELL AS THE SEALS AROUND THE TRUNK, HOWEVER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK BMW KEEPS A MAIN COMPONENT BOARD UNDERNEATH THE SPARE TIRE , ONCE THE SEALS BEGIN TO FAIL IT CAUSES WATER AND MOISTURE TO GAIN ACCESS TO THIS COMPARTMENT AND CAUSE THE BOARD TO IGNITE AND CATCH FIRE AND CAUSE CAR TO GO CRAZY WITH ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, WHY PLACE A MAIN COMPONENT IN THIS LOCATION WITH 10 FEET OF EXTRA WIRE AND NO DRAIN, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO POINT OUT ALL BMW'S OF THE SAME YEAR EXPERIENCE M MELTING OF THE PLASTIC INTERIOR PARTS AND THE PAINT TO COMPLETELY BREAK DOWN UNDERNEATH THE CLEAR COAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH AX IS APPLIED THESE ARE MAJOR FLAWS AND BMW IS WELL AWARE OF THEM, THERE VEHICLES AND SERVICE IS TERRIBLE THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD
THE SHEATHING ON MY HEADLIGHT'S WIRING IS FLAKING OFF WHICH COULD LEAD TO POTENTIAL FIRES. I WAS QUOTED $1500 PER HEADLIGHT TO REPLACE THEM WITH THE SAME CRAPPY HEADLIGHT HOUSINGS THAT ARE MADE WITH THE SAME MATERIAL THAT WILL EVENTUALLY DO THE SAME THING. ALL I NEED IS TO HAVE THE CAR PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND IT CAUSING A FIRE THAT COULD BURN DOWN OUR HOME OR WORST INJURE MY FAMILY. *TR

I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE & FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000. I CALLED BMW OF TENAFLY AND INFORMED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE I'M HAVING ON MY VEHICLE BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THE VIN# OF MY CAR IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT FALLS INTO THE SAME CATEGORY OF MAKE, MODEL & YEAR OF VEHICLES BEING RECALLED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT AND DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
