I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 75MPH WHEN MY CAR LOST ALL POWER, SHUT OFF AND LEFT ME WITHOUT POWER AND STRANDED DUE TO A FUEL PUMP. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I'VE FOUND THAT BMW AND SPECIFICALLY THE "N54" MOTOR THAT I HAVE A SEVERE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THIS EXACT REASON. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PUT IN PLACE FOR CERTAIN PARTS HOWEVER NOT ALL THE PARTS THAT CAUSE THIS TYPE OF A FAILURE. I'VE TRIED WORKING PROFESSIONALLY WITH BMW OF USA BUT BECAUSE I WASN'T INVOLVED IN A CRASH FROM SAID FAILURE THEY JUST REFUSE TO HELP. I DO NOT THINK ANY CAR WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES ON IT SHOULD BY ANY MEANS HAVE THIS SEVERE OF A BREAK DOWN POTENTIALLY CAUSING A RATHER FATAL OUTCOME. LUCKILY I AM AN AGGRESSIVE DRIVER AND CAN HANDLE A CAR WITH LOST POWER AND NOT COLLIDE INTO A WALL WHICH I NEARLY DID. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH BMW USA AS IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A HIGH END TURBO VEHICLE TO HAVE COMPLETE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. BMW FORUMS ALL OVER THE INTERNET HAVE SHOWN ME THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. SADLY THEY MAY NOT KNOW NHTSA EXISTS TO FILE A COMPLAINT. I SINCERELY HOPE YOUR GROUP CAN HELP US HELPLESS CONSUMERS OF BMW PRODUCTS GAIN A SAFER DRIVING EXPERIENCE. BMW RECALLING ONE FUEL PUMP AND NOT THE OTHER, OR EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON TURBOS YET NOT THE SUBSEQUENT PARTS THAT THEY OPERATE AND IT CAUSING THIS TYPE OF A BREAK DOWN IS TRULY TRULY SCARY AS WELL AS UNACCEPTABLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 528I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE VIEW MIRROR WOULD INADVERTENTLY MOVE TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE DRIVER NOT TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO VIEW VEHICLES OUT OF THE MIRROR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
FUEL PUMP!, NEAR THE GAS TANK. I CAN'T GO VERY FAR IN MY CAR WITHOUT IT CUTTING OFF. I HAVE HAD IT DIAGNOSED BY BMW. I HAVE BEEN TOWED OFF THE HIGHWAY ( GRAND CENTRAL EXIT 19) WHILE BEING STUCK IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION ON 10/13/16. I HEAR 3 CONSECUTIVE BEEPS THEN WITHIN 5 MINUTES OR LESS THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND THE SYSTEM SHOWS FUEL PUMP!. I HAVE HAD THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP REPLACE BY BMW, HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT ENJOYING MY CAR. THE RECALL ANNOUNCED ON 10/28/2016, SHOULD ALSO INCLUDE THE 2009 BMW 5 SERIES. I LOVE THE BMW CARS, HOWEVER IT HAS BECOME THE ULTIMATE DRIVING NIGHTMARE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 5 SERIES. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S POWER SEIZED AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,500. WHILE DRIVING FROM WORK ON A BUSY FRIDAY AFTERNOON THE VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE COMPUTER SCREEN STATES "ENGINE MALFUNCTION! REDUCING POWER" "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION" LESS THAN A MINUTE THE ENGINE STALLED. LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE BRIDGE FOR HOURS, TRY TO START THE CAR BUT IT WON'T START. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A NEW REVISION BUT STILL DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
"TAKATA RECALL" BMW SENT ME A NOTICE OF RECALL: DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG MODULE IN MARCH 2016, HOWEVER, UNTIL NOW 10/20/2016, THE LOCAL DEALER NEVER CALL ME TO REPLACE THE FRONT AIR BAG. ANOTHER PROBLEM: I SMELL GAS COMING OUT FROM THE FUEL TANK WHEN PARKING IN THE GARAGE, HOWEVER, I CAN NOT FIND ANY LEAK FROM THE GAS TANK. I FEEL MY BMW X5 V8 2009 MAY BE CAUGHT IN FIRE IF I DROVE LONG DISTANCE AND THE CAR HEATED UP.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
ECCENTRIC SHAFT SENSOR FAILS SUDDENLY AND THEIR ISSUE OF VECHILE STALLING WHILE DRIVING I GOT JERKING MOTION WHEN DRIVING , IT HAD STALLED @ TRAFFIC SIGNAL IT MAY LEAD TO IMPACT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 528I. WHILE SERVICING THE VEHICLE, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE HEAD CYLINDER BULLET FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
THE CAR ENGINE *COMPLETELY* SHUTDOWN WHILE BEING DRIVEN, *WITHOUT* ANY WARNING; HAD JUST EXITED MAJOR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY (I-95), AND WAS STILL ON EXIT RAMP WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS STILL IN MOTION, THE DRIVER, LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE RAMP WITHOUT ANY OTHER DAMAGE. DIAGNOSIS BY NEAREST BMW DEALER SERVICE INDICATED A SIMULTANEOUS SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE EKPS (CONTROLLER?) MODULE, A FAULT IN THE MAIN (LOW PRESSURE) FUEL PUMP AND ANOTHER SHORT CIRCUIT IN FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR. ALL THIS HAPPENED, SIMULTANEOUSLY, WITHOUT WARNING, IN A VERY WELL MAINTAINED, DEALER-SERVICED, LOW MILEAGE (42000 MILES) BMW 535I (YR 2009) VEHICLE. THE FACT THAT THE ENGINE *COMPLETELY* SHUTDOWN, ON AN EXIT RAMP OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY, AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED CREATED A VERY HAZARDOUS CONDITION FOR THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AND FOR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WAS WELL. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY ITSELF, AND NOT ON THE EXIT RAMP, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. CAR ENGINES OF THIS SORT OUGHT TO HAVE *SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF REDUNDANCY* BUILT INTO THEM SO THEY DON'T SHUT DOWN WHILE IN MOTION DUE TO A "SENSOR" SHORT CIRCUIT. THE AMOUNT OF ELECTRONICS BEING USED IN MODERN CARS HAS INCREASED EXPONENTIALLY, BUT I FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURER MAY NOT HAVE BUILT ENOUGH SAFEGUARDS / REDUNDANCIES IN THEIR SYSTEMS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THIS WAS A MAJOR MALFUNCTION IN A MOVING VEHICLE (AND THIS COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS AS WELL; LUCKILY IT OCCURRED AT A SLOWER SPEED ON AN EXIT RAMP). SUCH INCIDENTS NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY.
TAKATA RECALL, I BOUGHT THE CAR BACK IN LATE AUGUST, AT A DEALERSHIP CALLED DELUXE AUTO LOCATED IN LINDEN, NEW JERSEY. THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED ME A WARRANTY, 30 DAYS FREE AND 90 DAYS TO DECIDE TO GET THE WARRANTY OR NOT. THE INITIAL OFFER WAS ABOUT 60$ MONTHLY, AT 79K MILES. AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR A MONTH DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY LATE AT NIGHT THE CAR STARTING SHAKING AND TURNED OFF ON THE HIGHWAY. FUEL PUMP ERRORS. CAR WAS TOWED OFF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER A FEW HRS CAR STARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, GOT WARRANTY. THE OFFER NOW WAS AT 120$ A MONTH. THEY DID THE JOB, CAR RAN NORMALLY. HAPPENED AGAIN IN BROOKLYN, SENT CAR BACK TO DEALER THEY SAID NOTHING CAME UP ON THE COMPUTER, NOTHING THEY CAN DO. AFTER A FEW MONTHS SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME IN CONNECTICUT, SENT IT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC SHOP, BILL CAME TO 850, NOT INCLUDING TOWING 138$. NOW BACK TO MY DEALERSHIP, WHEN I WENT TO THEM TO PAY FOR THE WARRANTY, MY FATHER USED HIS CREDIT CARD, SINCE THEN I FIGURED IT WOULD CHARGE IT MONTHLY AUTOMATICALLY. THAT IS NOT THE CASE, AS I FOUND OUT THE DEALERSHIP SAID NOTHING THEY CAN DO. OTHER PROBLEM, CAR STARTED LEAKING OIL, ON OIL HOUSING UNIT, ENGINE OIL VALVE. GOT THEM BOTH FIXED AT ABOUT 500$ AT A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP. NOW A WEEK LATER, AT 1AM OF MARCH 7TH OF 2016 I'M STARTING THE CAR, IT TURNS ON AND GIVES AN ERROR "ENGINE REDUCED POWER" AND "ENGINE PRESSURE TOO LOW, SHUT OFF ENGINE IMMEDIATELY ". I'M ABOUT TO BE 22, GONNA START COLLEGE SOON, I HAVE BEEN MAKING PAYMENTS TO A 20K CAR, ON TOP OF ALL THE MAINTANCE PROBLEMS THAT THIS DEALERSHIP SOLD ME AND TRICKED ME INTO. I DONT KNOW IF ME WRITING ALL THIS WOULD HELP ME IN ANY WAY BUT THIS SUCKS, ON TOP OF ME BEING TRAPPED ON A HIGHWAY UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COMES, IN NYC, 2 TIMES WHERE CARS FLY BY YOU I WANT THAT WHEN DEALERSHIP SELL CARS TO BE SURE THAT THE CUSTOMERS ARE SAFE DRIVING THEM.I HOPE IT HELPS.
CAR STOPPED WHILE ON FREEWAY MOVING AT 50 MILES PER HOUR WITH MY VISUALLY IMPAIRED GRANDCHILD VERY SCARY. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION AND CAR JUST STOPPED. TOOK IT TO CONRAD THEY SAY IT IS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND I NEED TO TAKE IT TO BMW UNDER RECALL BMW SAYS IT IS THE LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. BMW NEED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM I THANK GOD WE WERE NOT HIT YESTERDAY ON THE FREEWAY.
ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 I PURCHASED THIS CAR AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING STALLING AND JERKING VIOLENTLY AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS BAD GAS FROM DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM. I WENT TO BMW IN OCTOBER 2015 I WAS TOLD IT WAS FUEL INJECTORS I WAS TOLD NO RECALL ON THE CAR AT THAT TIME. IN MARCH 2016 THE CAR STOPPED ON ME AND MY VISUALLY IMPAIRED GRANDSON WITHOUT WARNING ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO CONRAD AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP SO I TOOK THE CAR TO DIFFERENT BMW SERVICE CENTER NOW I AM TOLD IT THE FUEL PUMP BUT NOT THE ONE UNDER WARRANTY. BOTH SERVICE CENTERS REFUSE TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP THAT IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH IS THE PRIME PROBLEM. I TOLD THEM THE FUEL PUMP IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY NAME OTHER STUFF INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE PROBLEM THE CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD. BMW IS NOT STICKING TO KEEPING THEIR CARS SAFE. I BELIEVE IS ACTING IN A DISCRIMINATORY WAY AND WANT MORE MONEY OUT OF GREED. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED DOCUMENTS
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ENGINE STOPS. FIRST WARNING "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCED POWER. BUT IT HAD ALREADY STOPPED. AFTER NARROWING MISSING TRAFFIC PARKED IN BREAKDOWN LANE. NEXT WARNING FUEL PUMP FAILURE. CAR WOULD NOT RE-START FOR AN HOUR UNTIL TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. HAD TO BE TOWED TO BMW DEALER. DEALER REPORTS LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. ENGINE DIED AGAIN AT DEALERS
THE CAR SUDDENLY DISPLAYED A WARNING SAYING THE FUEL PUMP MALFUNCTION AND GAVE A NOTICE THAT ENGINE MAY SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATELY AND TO PULL TO A SIDE. WE COMPLIED - THOUGH IT MAY HAVE BEEN PRETTY DANGEROUS IF WE WERE ON HIGHWAYS OR IN TRAFFIC. TRIED TO START AGAIN, THE SAME ISSUE. GOT IT TOED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE TO BE THE HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION PUMP AND TOLD US IT IS NOT COVERED. WE CALLED BMW AND THEY TOLD IT IS NOW COVERED AS IT HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE TELL THE DEALER AND THE DEALER TELLS US IT IS COVERED BUT ANOTHER PART EDK PF IS NOW NOT COVERED AS IT DID SHOW FAULT CODES THAT WERE EARLIER THAN THE FUEL PUMP FAULT CODES. MY ISSUE IS IF THE FUEL PUMP AND EDK WORK HAND-IN-HAND, WON'T THE TWO TO BE COVERED BY BMW? WHY IT SHOULD MATTER, WHICH DID SHOW FAULT CODES FIRST? INFACT THIS IS PRETTY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I WISH BMW RECALLS AND CHECKS ALL VEHICLES AND FIX ALL THE PARTS THAT ARE AFFECTED.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, SUDDENLY WE BEGAN TO SMELL 'SOMETHING' BURNING, AND THEN THE IDRIVE SYSTEM DISPLAYED A BATTERY ICON LIGHT FOLLOWED BY THE MESSAGE "CHARGING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION" AND CONTROL MESSAGES WARNING "YOUR BATTERY IS NOT BEING CHARGED". SECONDS AFTER THAT MESSAGE THE POWER IN THE VEHICLE BEGAN SURGING, AND ANOTHER MESSAGE DISPLAYED "4X4 SYSTEM AND DSC HAVE MALFUNCTIONED". AT THIS POINT WE WERE PULLING OVER, AND THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN FILLING WITH SMOKE. THE 4 OF US EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WITNESSED FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE BONNET. WE MANAGED TO MOVE SAFELY AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND CALL FOR HELP AS IT WENT UP IN FLAMES - BURNING COMPLETELY (BUMPER TO BUMPERR). IT HAS BEEN DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 535I. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND THE REDUCE ENGINE POWER WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE IT WAS TURNED OFF AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE RECALL; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
WHILE DRIVING "ENGINE FAILURE, REDUCE POWER" LIGHT CAME ON, POWER ON ENGINE REDUCED BUT DRIVABLE. WHEN CAR SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED LIGHT GOES OFF BUT IF STEPPING ON THE GAS HARD THE LIGHT COMES BACK WITH ENGINE HAVING REDUCED POWER. THIS WAS REPAIRED TWICE, LAST BY BMW ON 7/29/13, THEY REPLACED VANS SOLENOIDS (INTAKE AND EXHAUST) AND REPROGRAMED THE TRANSMISSION. AT THAT TIME THEY TOLD ME IF THE PROBLEM RETURNS THE TRANSMISSION MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. READING THROUGH FORUMS AND THE WEB I CAME UPON MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM IN WHICH DEALERS STATED DIFFERENT ROOT CAUSES, MANY SOLUTIONS PROPOSED BUT OFTEN PROBLEM RETURNS. I BELIEVE THIS IS DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS CAR AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.
THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY JERKS UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION, AS WELL AS WHILE CRUISING. THE PROBLEM ORIGINALLY STARTED DURING WARMER WEATHER, BUT NOW IT SEEMS TO OCCUR ALL YEAR ROUND. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE.
VEHICLE SHUTTERS AND MISFIRES WHEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT CRUISING SPEEDS. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND HAS REDUCED POWER UNTIL VEHICLE IS RESTARTED. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO HIGHWAY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 BMW 528XI. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10-20 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. WHEN THE CONTACT TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. AS A RESULT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
IN PASSING ON 2 LANE HIGHWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC A WARNING OF REDUCED ENGINE POWER OCCURRED WITH CORRESPONDING REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER WITH SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED MARGIN OF SAFETY WITH RESPECT TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR ONCE. RELIABILITY IS UNPREDICTABLE. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED BECAUSE IT FAILED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EXPRESS WAY WITH FAST MOVING CARS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS POSE A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK TO THE PASSENGERS BECAUSE THEY COULD GET RUN OVER BY OTHER CARS. THE CAR STALLS WITHOUT WARNING IT JUST STOPS. I'VE COMPLAINED TO BMW ABOUT THIS AND THEY PRETEND THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE FIRST FUEL PUMP THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THEIR SOLUTION IS TO REPLACE THE SAME PART AGAIN. THEY NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHY ITS FAILING IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
DRIVING ON A POSTED SPEED LIMIT ROAD OF 30MPH WHEN WE SEE THIS MESSAGE ON OUR SCREEN "ENGINE MALFUNCTION POWER REDUCED". *JS
THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. THE STALL IS RELATED TO THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR NOT PROPERLY WORKING AND THE FUEL SYSTEM NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE A 2009 BMW 528I. IN APRIL 2014 BMW DID A RECALL RELATED TO THE CAMSHAFT FOR 2010 - 2014 528 BMW'S. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND THE NATIONAL BMW DEALER TO LET THEM KNOW I WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2009 AND TO SEE IF THEY WERE GOING TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE THE 2009 MODELS. THEY TOLD ME NO AT THIS TIME THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING EXPANDING THE RECALL. I ALSO LET THEM KNOW THAT I HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE CAR THAT COULD BE RELATED TO THE CAMSHAFT. THE CAR'S FUEL SYSTEM WAS LEAKING.THE GAS WAS NOT PROPERLY GOING TO THE ENGINE AND IT WAS FLOWING BACK INTO THE CAR AND THE EXHAUST. YOU COULD SMELL GAS IN THE CAR AND SEE PUDDLES OF GAS WHEN THEY LIFTED THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME I WAS DRIVING A BOMB. I PAID $450 TO HAVE THAT REPAIRED. BMW NEEDS TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE THE 2009 CARS. *TR

DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE INFLATED PRICE OF $550 TO CORRECT ON A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY 32000, WHEN I RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE A CONSTANT ISSUE WITH 2008 AND 2009 5 SERIES BMWS. 100S IF NOT MORE OF THIS PROBLEM ARE ON INTERNET AND THE COMPLAINTS ALONG WITH THE COST BMW IS CHARGING TO FIX. *TR
THE GROUNDING WIRE IN THE CONNECTOR TO THE TAIL LIGHT BULB HOLDER MELTED AND MELTED PARTS OF THE CONNECTOR. THIS RESULTED IN NO SIGNAL, BRAKE AND RUNNING REAR LIGHTS. PURCHASED A 2009 BMW 535I XDRIVE (VIN# [XXX]) IN MARCH 2013. IN JUNE OF 2013 I BEGAN TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO MY LOCAL BMW DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH ONE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS. THEY INDICATED THE INJECTORS WERE UNDER RECALL HOWEVER MY CAR HAD ALREADY HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED. UNDER FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT CAME TO LIGHT THAT ONLY THREE OF THE SIX INJECTORS WERE REPLACED UNDER THE PRIOR RECALL WORK. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE THE BAD INJECTOR UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES REPLACED UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY WORK. THEY INDICATED THEY CONTACTED BMWNA AND THAT THEY REFUSED TO APPROVE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE INJECTOR EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT DEALT WITH UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL WORK.I ENDED UP HAVING MY LOCAL BMW MECHANIC REPLACE THIS INJECTOR. THIS NOVEMBER 2014 I BEGAN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ANOTHER OF THE RECALLED INJECTORS THAT HAD YET TO BE REPLACED. THIS INJECTOR WHILE DRIVING BECAME LOOSE AND BROKE A FUEL LINE DAMAGING THE CYLINDER HEAD OF THE ENGINE WHERE THE INJECTOR IS LOCATED. DUE TO THE DAMAGE TO THE HEAD, THE INJECTOR LOCATED IN CYLINDER 5 CONTINUES TO LOOSE THE O-RING. THIS RENDERS THE CAR UNDRIVABLE. THIS IS MY THIRD BMW AND I HAVE TO SAY THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HAD THESE KINDS OF PROBLEM. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, ONE FUEL INJECTOR, WATER PUMP AND CRANK SEAL. IN ADDITION THE TRUNK LEAKS CREATING ISSUES WITH MY BATTERY AND SOS SYSTEM. I HAVE LEARNED THOUGH MUCH RESEARCH THAT THIS CAR MODEL HAS MANY KNOWN PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM, INJECTORS, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, ETC. I WOULD APPRECIATE SOMEONE LOOKING INTO THIS AND HOW THE CURRENT ISSUE WITH THE INJECTOR AND NOW HEAD CAN BE RESOLVED SINCE THIS INJECTOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY WORK LONG BEFORE THE HEAD WAS DAMAGED. IN THE 4 1/2 YEARS THAT MY 535XI HAS BEEN IN SERVICE, THE FUEL INJECTORS HAVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED 3 TIMES (SEPT 2011, JAN 2013, AND SEPT 2014). THE PROBLEMS HAVE MANIFESTED THEMSELVES WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS AND THE VEHICLE LOSES MOST POWER AND BEGINS SHAKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE GASES LIGHT COMES ON. THE MOST RECENT TIME OCCURRED WHILE ON AN INTERSTATE TOLLWAY BETWEEN EXITS 15 MILES APART MAKING FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS I LOST SPEED AND ANY ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. EFFORTS TO HAVE BMW COVER THE REPAIRS (ESTIMATED AT $2,200 INCLUDING NEW PLUGS), WERE BOTH UNSUCCESSFUL AND FRUSTRATING. THE DEALER PROVIDED ZERO ASSISTANCE. I CONTACTED BMW NA AND STATED THAT HAVING TO REPLACE THE FUEL INJECTORS 3 TIMES IN 4 1/2 YEARS INDICATES A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND RESULTS IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE AND INFORM ME WHETHER THE REPAIRS WOULD BE COVERED. THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOTIFY ME WITHIN 3-5 BUSINESS DAYS ALTHOUGH THEY WOULD TRY TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS SINCE I WAS WITHOUT A CAR. AT THE END OF THE 5TH BUSINESS DAY, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE SO I CALLED AND THE PERSON I NEEDED TO SPEAK WITH WAS IN A MEETING AND WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME BACK. AFTER ANOTHER FULL BUSINESS DAY AND NO CALL, I CALLED A AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE BUT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ANY RATIONALE. THIS HAS BEEN A REPETITIVE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS NO UNUSUAL SERVICE HISTORY. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED TWICE, ONCE AS A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR STALLING PROBLEMS, WHICH WAS THE SAME ISSUE THAT OCCURRED ON THE DAY OF THE FIRE.
MY FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON I-185. MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND BEGAN SPUTTERING AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS HAPPENED WHILE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY BUT MIRACULOUSLY I WAS ABLE TO MERGE OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND EXIT OFF THE INTERSTATE. BMW DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS IT AS A FAILED IN-TANK ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP AND SENSOR. IT WAS REPAIRED AND I PAID 1254.00. UNFORTUNATELY, A WEEK LATER, I EXPERIENCED ANOTHER LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS TIME BMW DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAD TO UPGRADE SOFTWARE AND CHANGE OUT SOME INJECTORS AND THAT SHOULD SOLVE MY PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THIS CAR TO DRIVE IT AND NOT SEND IT BACK AND FORTH TO THE REPAIR SHOP. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I TRIED TO SWITCH LANES, THE CAR JUST MADE A BIG FUMBLE AND ALMOST STALLED. THE TRAFFIC BEHIND NEARLY BECAME FATAL AS THE CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE AND I WAS VERY LUCK TO HAVE PULLED BACK WITH THE PASSING CAR BARELY HITTING MY MIRROR. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THEY HAVE CHANGED OUT ALL THE INJECTORS AND STILL THE CAR IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. EVERY TIME I GO TO THE DEALER THEY KEEP CHANGING THE FUEL INJECTORS OR RECALIBRATING THEM. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH WILL SHOW THAT THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THESE CARS AND BMW OF NORTH AMERICA DOES NOT WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS REPORTED BEFORE THE END OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY AND STILL ONGOING, THEY REFUSE TO COVER THE REPAIRS. THIS IS ABSURD AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AS MY FAMILY AND MY LIFE IS IN DANGER EVERY TIME WE TAKE TO ANY ROAD WITH THIS CAR. THE DRIVER OF THE BMW OFTEN HAS TO "STAND" ON THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE SURGES FROM ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO SHOT FORWARD AT STOPS. ISSUES STARTED IN JANUARY OF 2011, TOOK IT TO FAIRFAX BMW WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE VEHICLE HAD SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE BATTERY. NO FIX WAS PROVIDED IN THE SHOP FOR 3 DAYS. ISSUES PERSISTED THROUGH JANUARY AND TOOK IT TO BMW OF ALEXANDRIA WHERE THEY REPLACED A TRANSMISSION SOLENOID AND A INTAKE SENSOR, IN THE SHOP FOR ROUGHLY 7 DAYS. ELECTRICAL ISSUE REAPPEARED IN MARCH IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 7 DAYS AND HAD THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WIRING HARNESS REPLACED. VEHICLE ISSUE RESURFACED SEVERAL WEEKS LATER AND A ENGINEER FROM NJ CAME DOWN AND DETERMINED A FAULTY OIL SENSOR WAS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OFTEN ?THINK? IT WAS OUT OF OIL VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 7 DAYS. VEHICLE POTENTIALLY WAS FLOODED WITH OIL FROM SERVICE TECH'S ADDING MORE OIL EACH TIME THE VEHICLE "THOUGHT" IT WAS OUT OF OIL. VEHICLE AS OF 5-21-2011 SUFFERED AGAIN FROM THE SAME ISSUE AND WAS DROPPED BACK OFF AT BMW OF ALEXANDRIA WITH VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT IDENTIFYING ?ENGINE MALFUNCTION?. SENT SEVERAL EMAILS TO BMW CORPORATE WITH LITTLE RESPONSE. *TR

PURCHASED A BMW 535I X DRIVE IN APRIL 2009. SINCE APRIL 2010, THE CAR HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE 4 TIMES, MOST RECENTLY AUGUST 2010. ALL 4 TIMES, THE CAR'S ENGINE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON - OXYGEN SENSORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. A PROBLEM IN THE FUEL AREA/CATALYST CONVERTER WAS JUST FIXED IN JULY. LAST PROBLEM WAS AT 18,400 MILES - DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70MPH OUT OF TOWN IN ANOTHER STATE AT 10:45PM, AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL WENT OFF AND THEN 2 ENGINE LIGHTS APPEARS IN MY SPEEDOMETER AREA. ALSO, IN THE NAVIGATION AREA, ENGINE MALFUNCTION REDUCED POWER ERROR MESSAGE. THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING AND THE POWER WAS REDUCED DOWN TO 40MPH. AT THAT POINT, 225 MILES FROM HOME, NEEDED TO TURN BACK AND DRIVE 45 MINUTES FROM THE CITY THAT I JUST LEFT. CAR WAS TOWED TO A CITY 60 MILES FROM THERE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IMMEDIATELY IT WAS THE HPFP PROBLEM. AT THAT TIME, HE ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE NOT A PROBLEM NOW, BUT IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THEY WILL GO BAD WITHIN 6 MONTHS FROM NOW. CONFIDENCE HAS BEEN LOST IN THIS NEW CAR AND SAFETY CONCERNS FOR DRIVING THIS CAR MORE THAN 25-30 MILES OUT OF MY HOME CITY. EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT BREAKING DOWN AND STRANDED AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY BMW, THE ENGINE STALLED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND FORCED ME TO EXPEDITE MYSELF TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE ENGINE WOULD SHAKE AND RATTLE AT IDLE, AND THE CAR WAS SENT INTO LIMP MODE BY THE PCM. THIS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS, AND ALWAYS AT RANDOM TIMES AND SPEEDS. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT BE PASSING SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY, OR ENTERING/EXITING THE ON/OFF RAMPS WHEN IT OCCURRED. I AM FORCED TO TAKE ULTRA SAFE ROUTES THAT OFFER SLOWER SPEEDS. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON WITH THIS ENGINE MAKE AND MODEL, AND MUST BE ADDRESSED AS THIS WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A INJURY/ACCIDENT/ OR WORSE, FATALITY. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE NORTHBOUND ON THE KENNEDY EXPRESSWAY (I-90) BETWEEN MONTROSE AND LAWRENCE EXIT HERE IN CHICAGO WHEN MY CAR STALLED THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT WITH REDUCED POWER THAT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDERS BUT IT WAS A SCARY EXPERIENCE NONETHELESS WITH HIGH SPEED CARS AND TRUCKS PASSING BY YOU. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE RELATING TO AN EXISTING RECALL/CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. ANYWAY, THE CAR WAS NEVER FULLY FIXED; I MEAN I HAD AT SEVERAL INSTANCES OF CAR STALLING AGAIN AND AGAIN. I REPEATEDLY COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THE CAR DEALER LETTING THEM KNOW THAT I FEEL THERES A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. EVERY TIME I BROUGHT IT FOR REPAIRS IT WAS A DIFFERENT REASON WHY THE ENGINE FAILURE KEEPS LIGHTING UP AND THE CAR STALLING. IN THE BEGINNING THEY WERE COVERING THE REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY BUT AS SOON AS THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY EXPIRED I WAS ON THE HOOK FOR HUNDREDS SOMETIMES THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. I COMPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS VEHICLE AND PART OF THE SETTLEMENT WAS TO EXTEND THE ENGINE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS BUT THEY NEVER COVERED IT UNDER THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY SIMPLY BY STATING THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED TO WHATS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. IVE FINALLY GIVEN UP DISPUTING WITH THEM AND SOLD THE CAR THIS MONTH AND IVE DISPUTED WITH MY CREDIT CARD THE REPAIR COSTS SINCE THE ISSUE WAS NEVER FIXED. BMW IS COVERING UP THAT THERES AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL OF THEIR CAR AND HAVE BEEN DODGING WARRANTY CLAIMS.
