I believe using the manual shift mode for normal usage of optimal shifting in certain driving situations and gentle downshifting caused a malfunction in the functionality of the transmission that led to a complete transmission failure. I don’t believe it’s a mechanical issue or result of misuse. There were no warning signs. Only that every time the manual shift option was used, it would cause an error to occur that caused an automatic shifting issue that would reset if the vehicle was shut down and restarted.
Vehicle fail breaks malfunction. No response to the brakes. Push many times no break response vehicle hit vehicle in front of it could not be avoided That rotors are less than one year old there about six or 7000 miles on them. They are basically new new tires car will maintain no lights on dash no warning no airbag deployment. Vehicle going in slow speed due to heavy traffic

The tires were replaced with the same tire brand and tire line however, the failure recurred with the driver's side rear tire. The tire was replaced with the same tire brand and tire line. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 19T024000 (Tires), however, the DOT number was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 177,259. The tire failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2009 BMW 535I. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle vibrated violently with a message displayed to, "Check Engine – Engine Power Reduced”. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the spark plugs and ignition coil. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the valve cover gasket and upper radiator hose. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the evaporative leak detection assembly, water pump, and high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not assist. The failure mileage was 70,000.
The car was riding alittle rough and upon inspection I had seen that the inside aidewall of both tires on the inside wall of tire was gone..!

Passenger side safety restraint malfunction. Passenger airbag no longer enabled because seat occupancy sensor is faulty. Passenger is at risk as airbag no longer working. This problem was confirmed and diagnosed by an independent auto technician. BMW fault code 93c3 The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer as BMW wants $2,500 to make the repair. Warning lights on dash say Passenger Restraint System malfunction. Passenger Airbag no longer enabled. Issues started occurring two weeks ago.

I took the 2009 BMW 528i to Bridgeport BMW to have a prior safety recall (17V-673/19V-273) repaired but, it wasn't fixed and my car caught on fire last year before I got another recall letter stating that there's no remedy for the Recall Campaign No. 22V-119: PCV Valve Heater.
The car stop running completly when I was wainting at the stop light An anounsmemt came out in my dash saying that I have to repleaced the fuel pump I know that there was a recall abuot this problem but I never got any notice or letter from bmw

The contact owns a 2009 BMW 535i. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle to an independent mechanic for servicing, he was informed that the vehicle was leaking oil. The oil filter housing and the valve cover gaskets were replaced. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs and the coil pack needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the coil pack needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the turn signals and the horn were no longer operatives. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the steering column had failed. The contact also stated that the rear passenger's side and the rear driver's side windows were no longer operating as needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 115,600. The consumer stated there is a recall for this vehicle.
BMW 2009 535 XI OWNER. OUT OF ALL OF THE TIMES TAKING THE CAR FOR SERVICE FOR VARIOUS REASONS, I DECIDED TO LOOK FOR INFORMATION REGARDING MY LATEST ISSUE. TWIN TURBO. I WAS TOLD THE REAR TURBO WAS BAD AND IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DO BOTH. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED IN OCTOBER, THEY TOLD ME THE OIL SMELL WAS DUE TO THE SPRING FROM OIL CAP MISSING. BEFORE OCT 2019 I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE OIL SMELL AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A LEAK FROM A HOSE (I NEVER SAW ANY FLUIDS ON GROUND) THIS LAST INCIDENT, I WAS ON THE ROAD WHEN I EXITED THE HIGHWAY I GOT AN ENGINE WARNING TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY. OIL WAS LOW. I TOOK IT BACK TO BMW AND I WAS TOLD THE REAR TURBO WAS BAD. THEY NOW WANT $6,900. I READ IN A FEW POSTS THAT THE TWIN TURBO ISSUE WAS EXT. TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. MY CAR WAS FIRST PURCHASE IN MAY 2009. I AM ASSUMING I AM OUT OF TIME. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL. MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT COME UP WITH ANY RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH MOST OF THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME AS OTHER 2009 BMW OWNERS. MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE 120,000 MILES YET. I TOOK THE CAR TO BMW FOR VANOS SOLENOIDS IN OCT 2019. AND ANOTHER TIME IN OCT BECAUSE THE CAR OVER HEATED SUDDENLY IN LESS THAN HALF A MILE. IT WAS THE FAN. RECENTLY I LEARNED THAT SOME OF THE 2009 BMW 535 HAD A RECALL BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING. I QUESTIONED THE DEALER BUT HE SAID HE HAD NOTHING ON FILE. FURTHER READING I FOUND OUT THAT THE COMPANY I BELIEVED CALLED VANOS WAS DOING THE RECALLS. IN OCTOBER 2019 I SPENT ABOUT $3,000 IN REPAIRS. I NOW BELIEVE I COULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY A RECALL OR EXT. WARRANTY. OVERALL ON DIFFERENT ISSUES I THINK I HAVE SPENT OVER $13,000 IN REPAIRS (INCLUDING TRANSFER CASE AND DIFFERENTIAL THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT PAY BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT HAVE SPECIFIED 17' TIRES: BUT I BOUGHT WITH STAGGERED 18' TIRES). I STILL OWE APPROXIMATELY $7,500 TO THE BANK. I TAKE IT TO BE SERVICED ALL THE TIME, SO I'M BAFFLED.
While driving I have received engine malfunction and steering becomes hard and unsafe. Have had the engine belt shred to pieces and case major issues. Same repair has been completed multiple times. Great vehicle becoming unsafe to have on the road. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Engine Malfunction, Battery Malfunction and Yes. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This put my safety at risk because I was on the expressway and the steering was hard to turn or direct. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No there were not any other messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. When the light came on, I pulled over in a safe place. This has happened the first time on August 20, 2019; 2nd time November 9, 2019; 3rd time March 22, 2020; 4th time January 20, 2021; 5th time June 6, 2022. This is too costly for BMW certified parts to continue to occur. AS I AM DRIVING MY BMW AFTER 5 MINUTES OF START IT. I SMELLED OIL COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE. EVEN AFTER NOT DRINK THE CAR FOR ABOUT ONE WEEK THE SMELL WAS STILL THERE. I AM CONCERN THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENGINE. EVEN ON A COOL 60 DEGREE DAY THE ENGINE IS TOO HOT TO TOUCH. I FEEL THAT THE COOLANT IN NOT GOING TO THE ENGINE SINCE AFTER PUTTING A FULL AMOUNT OF COOLANT THE COOLANT IS DEPLETE AFTER ONE HOUR.

BLAGOI'S INTERNATIONAL CAR SERVICE (1880 RIVERSIDE DR, COLUMBUS, OH 43221, (614) 486-2449) DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
VEHICLE WAS OPERATING ON PUBLIC HIGHWAY AT 40 MPH IN FORWARD GEAR. ELECTRONIC FUEL PUMP STOPPED CAUSING IMMEDIATE ENGINE POWER FAILURE AND LOSS OF FORWARD MOVEMENT CONTROL. IT WAS SNOWING AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER. NO SAFE LANE OR OTHER AREA TO COAST IMMEDIATELY INOPERABLE VEHICLE INTO. HEAVY TRAFFIC REPEATEDLY NEARLY COLLIDED. NO WAY TO SECURE IMMEDIATE SAFE REMOVAL OF INOPERABLE VEHICLE OFF ROADWAY. EMERGENCY FLASHERS QUIT AFTER 30 MINUTES. WRECKER TOO 2.5 HOURS TO ARRIVE, WHILE DRIVE WAS FORCED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN UNSHELTERED FREEZING SNOW AND ICE, AND REMAINING IN VULNERABLE VEHICLE FOR TOW TRUCK TO ARRIVE. VEHICLE DISPLAYED "FUEL PUMP FAILURE" ON DIAGNOSTIC LCD SCREEN IN VEHICLE. THREE HOURS LATER, VEHICLE STARTED UP AND RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT, AFTER SITTING. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES OVER THE PAST FIFE YEARS, AND OCCURS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

CAR BATTERY DRAINING, INSACIABLES BRAKE FLUID TIMING FOR CHANGE OF GEAR TAKES A WHILE
WITHIN 15 MIN OF ARRIVING HOME IN SAID VEHICLE, WIFE STARTED CAR IN DRIVEWAY TO GO SHOPPING. IMMEDIATELY, DENSE BLACK SMOKE BEGAN POURING FROM UNDER THE DASH. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF, BUT LEFT KEY FOB IN COLUMN. SHE SUMMONED ME FROM INSIDE OUR HOUSE AND WHEN I ARRIVED THE SMOKE WAS STILL POURING OUT FROM UNDER CENTER TO DRIVER SIDE OF DASH. I REMOVED THE KEY FOB FROM COLUMN AND APPROX. 1 TO 2 MIN LATER THE SMOKE STOPPED - WAS GOING TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, BUT SMOKE STOPPED BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO OPEN GARAGE AND GATHER TOOLS. NO FLAMES WERE EVER SEEN AND ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKE FROM UNDER HOOD AREA - ALL INSIDE CAR. MANY WARNING LIGHTS ARE NOW ILLUMINATED - AWD SYS, DSC, ABS, 4X4, LIGHTING SYS (CHECK DISPLAYS, TURN SIGNALS, HIGH BEAMS, HEADLAMP FLASHER AND FOG LAMPS). NONE OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS SEEM TO FUNCTION. THIS ALL OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING AND FORTUNATELY HAPPENED WHILE STOPPED IN THE DRIVEWAY. CHECKED RECALL LOG ON NHTSA FOR VIN AND FOUND "0" RECALLS. THE VEHICLE ALSO INCLUDES "X-DRIVE" (ALL WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM).
THE CAR SMELLS AS FUEL IS LEAKING AND THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK IN AND OUT... MY TRUNK STOP OPENING WITH KEY FOB
AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN LOSE POWER THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT COME DASH. THEN ON THE IDRIVE SYSTEM IT ALWAYS SAY "FUEL PUMP" PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS UNEXPECTED AND HAS PUT ME IN DANGEROUS SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. I PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND PUT THE FLASHERS ON. AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES THE FLASHERS GO OFF AND THE CAR IS ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN. LASTLY, THE PROBLEM ALWAYS HAPPEN UNEXPECTED REGARDLESS ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY. I CAN BE TRAVELING AT 25 TO 75MPH AND IT JUST RANDOMLY HAPPENS. MANY OCCASIONS I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE TRAVELING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE. DUE TO MOVING TO THE LEFT SHOULDER AND CARS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED.
FUEL PUMP FAILURES, CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (NUMEROUS TIMES) LOST POWER STEERING WHILE GOING OVER 60 MPH. COST OVER $10,000 TO MAKE REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE BMW SAID IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY.
THE CAR SHUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN IT'S BEING USED BECAUSE OF THE FUEL PUMP. I THINK IT'S UNFAIR THAT THE 2008 MODELS GOT RECALLS UP TO 10 YRS AND 120,000 MILES. I FEEL LIKE THE 2009 BMW XI WAS MISSING FROM THIS RECALL. THE SAME HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS THE PROBLEM FOR THE RECALL. I'M BOTH CLOSE TO REACHING MY 120,000 MILES OR THE 10 YR MARK SO IT WOULD BE AMAZING TO SEE SOMETHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS SOON.
FUEL PUMP ERROR WHILE DRIVING AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN, WE LOSE POWER STEERING AND HAVE DONE SO ON THE HIGHWAY, AND CITY NUMEROUS TIMES.
IN DECEMBER 2017 RECALL WAS ISSUED REGARDING ENGINE COMPONENT KNOWN AS POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE HEATER. CALLED MY LOCAL BMW OF PEABODY MA AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPONENTS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON LATE JANUARY 2018 AND I WILL INFORMED BY MAIL. CAR SMOKING ON AND OFF I MADE SURE THEY HAVE MY NAME AND ADDRESS. AS OF SEPTEMBER 2018, THERE'S NO CONTACT LACK OF SERVICE AND CONCERNS
STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AT A RED LIGHT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES OF DRIVING. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND UPON ACCELERATION, THE ENGINE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION.THE "FUEL PUMP" WARNING CAME UP ON MY SCREEN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT DID NOT EXHIBIT ANY PROBLEMS, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC THE VEHICLE RAN FINE. NONETHELESS, THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. DROVE THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE IT BROKE DOWN AGAIN. SAME SCENARIO, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE DAYS. AWAITING TO SEE IF A NEW HPFP WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
DRIVING ON FREEWAY 65 MPH AND VEHICLE LOOSES POWER COMPLETELY POWER STEERING POWER BRAKES LOST. THE ENGINE CAUGHT COMPLETE FIRE AND ENGULFED THE CAR. I WAS INSIDE THE BAVARIAN MOTOR WORKS VEHICLE. I COULD HAVE DIED. MAGNESIUM IN THE CAR MEANS IT IS THEN SUBJECT TO COMBUSTION AND ALSO TO CATCH FIRE AGAIN WHICH IT DID. IN THE MORNING THE CAR WAS A FULL BLAZE AFTER THE FIRE DEPARTMENT LEFT THE PREVIOUS NIGHT. BMW NEEDS TO COMPENSATE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR NICE CAR, LOST LOTS OF DAYS AT WORK , AND NEARLY LOST THEIR LIFE, BECAUSE OF THAT RECALL COULD HAVE THE CAR BLOW UP AT ANY TIME. HELLO, MY CAR FILLED UP WITH SMOKE ONE DAY. IT SMELT LIKE PLASTIC WAS BURNING I WAS PULLING UP TO MY DRIVE WAY AND WAS SUPER DIZZY THE WHOLE INSIDE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE. I COULDN'T BREATH PROPERLY. I HAVE CALLED BMW DEALERSHIPS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE PART FOR MY CAR, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE BUT I NEED TO GET TO SCHOOL! PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND SMOKE APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS TOWED. TWO DEALERS WERE CONTACTED: (BMW OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1295 RICHMOND RD, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA 22911, (434) 270-8664) AND (BMW OF STERLING, 21710 AUTO WORLD CIR, STERLING, VA 20166, (571) 434-1944). THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED TO DETERMINE WHEN THE REMEDY AND PART WOULD BE SUPPLIED TO THE DEALER BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER17V683 RECALL ISSUED FOR FAULTY PCV VALVE HEATER IN OCTOBER 2017 WITH NO REMEDY AS OF TODAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2018.
MY 2009 BMW 535I XDRIVE HAS BEEN OWNED BY ME FOR 6 YEARS. IT HAS LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE I BECAME OWNER, IT HAD 2 FUEL PUMP FAILURES, ONE WATER PUMP FAILURE, AND NOW FUEL INJECTOR FAILURE. WHEN ITS FUEL INJECTORS FAILED ON 10/27/17, THE CAR'S ENGINE STARTED SHAKING RIGHT AFTER I TURNED IT ON. THE CAR WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT AND I PROCEEDED ON THE SIDE STREET AT 10 MILES AN HOUR SPEED TOWARDS WORK IN THE MORNING. CAR THEN LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. VERY DARK, DENSE, BLACK SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. AFTER TOWING IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BMW DEALER THAT THE FUEL INJECTORS ARE MALFUNCTIONING AND RATHER THAN SPRAYING THE FUEL INSIDE THE ENGINE, THEY WERE DUMPING IT IN LARGE AMOUNTS INSTEAD. THIS CREATED A STATE OF TOO MUCH UNBURNED FUEL INSIDE THE ENGINE AND IT CAUSED THE BLACK SMOKE. COST OF REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS $3075. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER MAY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AS WELL DUE TO THIS DYSFUNCTION AND AS A RESULT I MIGHT NEED REPLACEMENT AS WELL ADDING ANOTHER $1500 TO THE COST. I HAVE LEARNED OF SIMILAR REPORTS OF FUEL INJECTORS PROBLEMS IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, PLACING THE CARS, THE DRIVERS, AND THE PASSENGERS AT RISK. SEEING THE DARK, DENSE, BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE SEEMED VERY UNSAFE AND EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD TRIGGER RECALL OF SUCH DEFICIENT FUEL INJECTORS. I BELIEVE THE FUEL INJECTOR MALFUNCTION CAUSED AN ABNORMAL FIRE INSIDE THE ENGINE WHICH CAUSED SUCH DARK SMOKE TO OCCUR.

FUEL PUMP CUT OUT UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AT POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 60 MPH. ALMOST RUN OVER BY TRACTOR TRAILER WHILE PULLING CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WAS LATER RE-STARTED.
I AM REQUESTING NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS KNOWN DANGEROUS DEFECT AND ISSUE A MANDATED RECALL TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC. FUEL PUMP FAILURE OR RELATED FAILURES CAN CAUSE A CAR TO BE UNABLE TO MOVE OUT OF A DANGEROUS HIGHWAY AFTER ENGINE POWER FAILURE AT IDLE, CAUSING RISK TO HUMAN LIFE. ON 08-08-17, I WAS ON INTERSTATE IN STOPPED TRAFFIC. MY 2009 BMW 535XI WITH 115, 502 MILES ON IT QUIT RUNNING. TRAFFIC CLEARED AND I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO START, RUN, AND MOVE. IT WOULD START, BUT IT WOULD THEN QUIT RUNNING BEFORE I COULD PLACE IT IN GEAR. INTERSTATE TRAFFIC WAS APPROACHING AT 60 TO 70 MPH. MY THREE PASSENGERS GOT OUT AND PUSHED THE VEHICLE WHILE I STEERED IT IN NEUTRAL, NOT RUNNING, OFF THE ROADWAY. WE HAD A NEAR MISS COLLISION FROM APPROACHING VEHICLES ON THE INTERSTATE. THE DASH DISPLAY SAID "HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE." AFTER SITTING 5 MINUTES, THE CAR STARTED AND APPEARED TO RUN NORMALLY. I E-MAILED BMW AND THEY SAID THEY HAD EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY ON HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP TO 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES, AND SAID TAKE IT TO BMW SERVICE CENTER. ON 08-10-17 BMW DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AND SAID IT WAS THE "LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP LOCATED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK HAD FAILED." THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE IT AT A COST OF $2,079.90, STATING "BMW DOES NOT OFFER RECALLS." FOUR PEOPLE WERE ALMOST KILLED. BMW HAS "EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 120,000 MILES ON HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP" BUT NOT ON THE "LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP." I ASKED SERVICE TECH IF HE WAS SURE IT WAS "LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE" IF VEHICLE COULD RUN INTERMITTENTLY. HE OFFERED NO SATISFACTORY EXPLANATION, COMPARING IT TO A "LIGHT BULB THAN CAN WORK SOME TIMES AND NOT WORK SOME TIMES." I AM REQUESTING NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS KNOWN DANGEROUS DEFECT AND ISSUE A MANDATED RECALL TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 70 MILES PER HOUR - WHEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE VEHICLE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" AND "HAZARD LIGHTS CAME ON - THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWED OVER 100 MORE GALLOONS IN THE TANK THAN IT HAD PREVIOUSLY - TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND. THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER AND WAS STALLING AS I IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO CROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM THE FURTHEST LEFT LANE IN ORDER TO GET TO SAFETY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD - I WAS WITH MY PARENTS AND MY HANDICAPPED NEPHEW AND SCARED FOR ALL OF OUR LIVES. THE ENGINE "SPUTTERED AND VIBRATED" BEFORE STOPPING. I DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING WRONG OR ANY CHANGE IN THE WAY THE CAR DROVE. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE INCIDENT.
AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME, IN AN ONLY ANKLE DEEP PUDDLE INSIDE OF OUR SUBDIVISION, WATER WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE AIR INTAKE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HYDROLOCK AND EVENTUALLY DESTROY THE ENGINE. I BELIEVE SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DISABLE A CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF A RAINSTORM. I OBSERVED NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES TRAVELING THRU JUST FINE INCLUDING A LATE MODEL INFINITI Q50.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAYS, AMIDST OTHER VEHICLES WHEN THE ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I DID NOT CREATE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT ITSELF OFF WHILE GOING 60!! I LOST POWER STEERING BUT MANAGED TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WOULD THEN NOT START AND ON THE IDRIVE IT GAVE ME A FUEL PUMP WARNING . ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AFTER CALLING FOR ASSISTANCE, I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS AS IF NOTHING HAD OCCURED. THE WARNING DISSAPPEARING AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. IT HAS SINCE THEN DONE THIS SAME THING 4 OTHER TIMES. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE AND WANT TO KNOW IF THIS VEHICLE IS RECALLED AND IF NOT THEN WHY IS IT NOT RECALLED?
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH, AND ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION ENTERED FAILSAFE MODE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCERLERATE. ATTEMPTS TO USE THE SHIFTER TO CHANGE GEARS WERE INEFFECTIVE. ONCE IN A SAFE POSITION, I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. UPON RESTART, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED NORMALLY. THIS HAS OCCURED ABOUT SIX (6) TIMES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2016 AND PRIOR TO TAKING IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, ON MARCH 25, 2017. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON APRIL 5, 2017, AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN REPORTED THE FOLLOWING: PERFORMED SHORT TEST AND FOUND CLUTCH E FAULTS IS STORED IN THE DME. PERFORMED TEST PLAN AND FOUND NO CURRENT FAULTS WITH TRANSMISSION. CLEARED FAULTS AND ADVISE CUSTOMER TO CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE UNTIL FAULTS COME BACK ON. THE NEXT DAY, APRIL 6, 2017 A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURED TWICE WHILE ENTERING TRAFFIC. ISSUE SIMILAR TO NHTSA ID NUMBER 10035010.
TAKATA RECALL. THE VEHICLE JUST SHUTS RIGHT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING SIGN AND IT'S ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS AND IT CAN CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. BMW HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON LATER MODELS BUT NOT THIS MODEL. ONCE THE VEHICLE TURNS COMPLETELY OFF A MESSAGE ON THE VEHICLES IDRIVE DISPLAYS "FUEL PUMP FAILURE." AFTER THE VEHICLE COOLS DOWN FOR 20-30 MINUTES IT STARTS BACK UP AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN WITHOUT NOTICE MAYBE DAYS LATER OR WEEKS LATER. IT'S A DANGEROUS ISSUE AND THERE'S NO WAY TO DETECT IT SO WARRANTY COMPANIES ARE GIVING A HARD TIME TO COVER THE COSTS AND IT'S LISTED AS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND IT'S SOMETHING BMW SHOULD LOOK INTO WITH THE OLDER MODEL AS WELL. CURRENTLY THERE'S A RECALL ON THE 2010-2011 MODELS FOR DOING THE SAME EXACT THING WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP.
THIS CAR DOES HAVE SYSTEMS ISSUES INVOLVING FUEL PRESSURE UNDER HWY SPEEDS AND DURING HARD ACCELERATION. THERE IS A ORANGE WARNING LIGHT THAT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHY THE CAR IS TRYING TO PULL VACUUME AND GET UP TO PROPER SPEEDS. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RECALLS BUT NOT ALL MODELS ARE INVOLVED. I WOULD SUGGEST REPLACING THE O RINGS AND OR INJECTORS AS PREVENTABLE MEASURE AND FOR BETTER FUEL ECONOMY. IF THE DEALER CAN'T HELP YOU THEN REACH OUT TO THE AREA REP IN YOUR SALES CITY.
I KEEP GETTING WARNINGS THAT THE HEAD LAMP, RUNNING LAMPS ARE MALFUNCTIONING. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND FOUND EXPOSED WIRES AND WAS TOLD THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD RESULTING IN THE HEADLIGHT WIRING INSULATION FLAKING OFF AND LEAVING COPPER WIRE EXPOSED AND WIRES ARE TOUCHING, UNINSULATED WIRES. WIRES ARE SHORTING OUT THE LIGHTS, BURNING BULBS AND CAUSE MALFUNCTIONS IN THE HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, PARKING LIGHTS, AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND IS A FIRE HAZARD.
MY 2009 BMW 535I X DRIVE CONTINUES TO HAVE STALLING ISSUES. I'M TIRED OF TAKING IT IN TO BMW TO HAVE THEM CHARGE ME AND SAY NOTHING IS WRONG JUST TO HAVE MY CAR CONSTANTLY SHUTTING DOWN OVER AND OVER. MY CAR HAS PRETTY MUCH BEEN REBUILT BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE AND IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO KEEP PAYING FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS NOT RESOLVED. MY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, FUEL PUMP, BATTERY, HIGH AND LOW PRESSURE SENORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I'VE HAD MY OIL CHANGED AND FUEL LINE FLUSHED AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. I TRULY ENJOY THE VEHICLE WHEN ITS WORKING BUT I'M JUST AT THE POINT OF TRADING IT IN FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE OTHER THEN BMW.
