THE CAR LUNGES/JERKS AT RANDOM TIMES DURING STARTUP. IT DOES THIS WHETHER THE CAR IS COLD, HOT AND AT RANDOM TIMES DURING THE DAY OR EVENING. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURS. ENGINE MOUNTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND TRANSMISSION MOUNT IF IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. THE DEALER CANNOT IDENTITY THE PROBLEM. AT TIMES THE JERK IS BARELY NOTICEABLE BUT OTHER TIMES THE JERK IS HARSH AND I FEAR THE THE CAR WILL MOVE FORWARD WHILE PARKED.
THERE IS A RECALL ON ALL BMW N63 VEHICLES FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BULLETIN B001314) CUSTOMERS CARE PACKAGE. MY BMW IS CONSUMING OIL AND WHITE SMOKE IS COMING OUT THE TAILPIPE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO BMW AND THEY REFUSE TO PERFORM THE NECESSARY REPAIRS INCLUDED IN THE CCP MY CRANKCASE VALVES ALSO THE COOLING HOSES ALL THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE CLASS ACTION SUIT THEY CLAIM I HAVE A ENGINE LEAK. THE ENGINE IS LEAKING BECAUSE THE VALVES ARE WORN AND NEED TO BE CHANGED I NEED HELP GETTING THEM TO CONFORM TO THE CCP.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THIS PART HAS BEEN HIGHLY PUBLICIZED AS FAULTY. INCLUDING RECALLS AND EXTENDED WARRANTEES. THE FAILURE AT HIGH SPEEDS CAUSED STALLING AND WAS VERY DANGEROUS. BMW FAILED TO REPLACE FOR FREE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND CHARGED ME FULL PRICE. FAILURE TO HONOR RECALL/WARRANTY. IT HAS BEEN NOTED 150,000 PLUS VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED. THIS NEEDS TO BE A MANDATORY RECALL AND PAID IN FULL BY BMW. SEEKING INVESTIGATION AND REIMBURSEMENT. I HAVE THE INVOICE IF NEEDED.

DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION WARNING DISPLAYED
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILED, MEANING THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM DOES NOT KNOW IF SOMEONE IS SITTING THE IN PASSENGER SEAT. APPARENTLY, THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE FOR 2006 BMWS, BUT THE MANUFACTURER FAILS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR NEWER ONES LIKE THOSE IN 2010. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH WILL SHOW THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 535I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHILE IN TRAFFIC BUT IT FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER REAR SIDE OF THE VEHICLE DROPPED CLOSER TO THE ROAD AND WAS DRAGGING WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT DID NOT NOTICE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC DETACHED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NALLEY BMW OF DECATUR DEALER, LOCATED AT 1606 CHURCH ST, DECATUR, GA 30033, (404) 994-4329, FOR THE STALLING FAILURE AND IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V746000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL; THEREFORE, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
WHILE ACCELERATING THE CAR JUMPS INTO NEUTRAL RANDOMLY. WHETHER FROM A SLOW START OR ACCELERATING ON A HIGHWAY. IT HAS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES AND THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO FIX.
BMW EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FOR THE INJECTORS. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED INJECTOR PROBLEMS SEVERELY IMPACTING ACCELERATION AND FAILING TEXAS EMISSIONS TESTING. BMW THEN DENIED REIMBURSEMENT. THIS ISSUE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED.
WHEN DRIVING FREEWAY OR STREET, TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING IT TO DROP INTO A LOW GEAR AND REDUCE SPEED SIGNIFICANTLY. THERE IS NO MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE ON THE TRANSMISSION. UNFORTUNATELY WILL NEED REPLACEMENT AT 8 YRS & 90K ON ODOMETER. BMW SHOULD RECALL AND FIX.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 528I. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE RIGHT AND LEFT TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS FAILED TO OPERATE AND THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTING FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT, A CERTIFIED INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS; THEREFORE, NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE BMW 535I THAT I HAVE HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM. ALL PUMPS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND STILL THE CAR WILL STOP RUNNING AT ANY TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND HAS CAUSED ME TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND GET THE CAR TOWED. I HAVE SPENT SO FAR OVER 6,000 DOLLARS ON PUMPS . NOW THE CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP AND I AM TOLD THAT I AM STARING AT ANOTHER BIG BILL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. BMW HAS GIVEN ME ONE EXCUSE AFTER THE OTHER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN TRAFFIC AT SPEED. BEEN LUCKY NOT TO CRASH THE CAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 528I. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V683000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, SMOKE ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER (TOWNE BMW, 8215 MAIN ST, WILLIAMSVILLE, NY 14221) THREE TIMES, BUT HAD NOT RECEIVED A RETURN CALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
RECALL CAMPAIGN NO.: 17V683: PCV VALVE HEATER ON JANUARY 22, 2018, WHILE TRAVELING WESTBOUND ON THE 10 FREEWAY, MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC. I PULLED OVER, TURNED MY CAR OFF, GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS. I OPENED THE HOOD AND OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH TURNED INTO FIRE BURNING THE ENTIRE FRONT END INTO THE SEATING AREA OF THE CAR. THE PCV VALVE HEATER MELTED CAUSING THE FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED WHO PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE TOW YARD. RECALL NOTICE WAS RECEIVED FROM BMW, HOWEVER, NO INSTRUCTION PROVIDED ON HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT ON THIS LOSS. WAS INFORMED "REMEDY UNAVAILABLE".
VEHICLE STALLED TWICE ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH; THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED BOTH TIMES. ANOTHER TIME IT STALLED WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE BMW IN BATON ROUGE FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS NOW AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THERE IS NOT YET A FIX FROM BMW.
CAR STALLS AT HIGH SPEED, FUEL PUMP WARNINGS LIGHT COMES ON. CAR WILL RESET AFTER 30 MINS BUT WILL CONTINUE TO SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING. BOTH FUEL PUMPS HAVE BEEN REPLACED
MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPS. I'VE ALREADY REPLACE THE SPARKPLUGS, COILS, & FUEL FILTER, BUT THE PROBLEM DOES NOT GO AWAY. THE SUDDEN STOPPING HAPPENS WHEN I'M DRIVING OR WHEN I'M IDLE AT EITHER A STOP SIGN OR A LIGHT. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS UNTIL IT COMPLETELY TURNS OFF FROM I'M IDLE AND THERE IS NO WARNING FOR WHEN I'M ACTUALLY DRIVING, IT JUST STOPS.
ON SUNDAY 12/03 I SUDDENLY HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE ACCELERATING AND IMMEDIATELY REACHED THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED. THE DIAGNOSIS I RECEIVED IS THAT THERE HAS BEEN A FATAL FAILURE OF BEARING THAT CAUSE THE ENGINE TO GET DAMAGED AND IN NEED TO BE REPLACED. I LOOKED UP ON THE WEB AND FOUND OUT THAT IN 2014 BMW HAD A WORLDWIDE RECALL OF 2010 5 SERIES MODELS FOR A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE WHICH WOULD HAVE GENERATED THE SAME FAILURE I HAVE EXPERIENCE, SUDDENLY, ON SUNDAY. MY CAR WAS NEVER RECALLED, BUT THE FAILURE MODE AND THE YEAR OF THE MODEL ARE STRIKINGLY SIMILAR. THE RECALL I AM REFERENCING IS 14V-176 FOR THE VANOS. THE AFFECTED 5 SERIES MODELS WERE PRODUCED BETWEEN FEBRUARY 2010 ' AUGUST 2011. MY 5 SERIES WAS MANUFACTURED ON OCTOBER 2009, THEREFORE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER THE FAILURE IS IDENTICAL TO THE ONE DESCRIBED BY THE RECALL AND I FEEL THAT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE INCLUSIVE. MY 535 HAD 130 K MILES, WHICH DO NOT WARRANT SUCH A DRASTIC FAILURE, ESPECIALLY SINCE HAS BEEN DILIGENTLY SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE. LAST OIL CHANGE HAD STILL 9000 MILES TO SPARE AND WHEN THEY REPLACED THE FILTER NOTHING WAS NOTICED. SUCH A DRASTIC AND RAPID FAILURE IT IS NOT OTHERWISE EXPLAINABLE.

THE DEALER MADE NO MENTION OF INSPECTING THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE IF THE PART WOULD PREMATURELY FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
IN DECEMBER, 2017, BMW SENT A RECALL NOTICE, RETAIL CAMPAIGN NO. 17V-683: PCV VALVE HEATER. WHEN WILL BMW FIX THIS ISSUE, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A FIRE IN THE VEHICLE.
I WAS DRIVING 2010 BMW 528XI ON HIGHWAY @SPEED OF 65 MPH AND ELECTRIC SUPPLY DISCONNECTED IN THE CAR AND I LOST THE CONTROL. I COULD NOT CONTROL SPEED AND BRAKES. IT WAS A SERIOUS THREAT TO MY LIFE. FORTUNATELY, I LET CAR GO AND IT STOPPED BY ITSELF ON SHOULDER. I CALLED TO BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT THEY MENTIONED THAT BMW CANNOT HELP IN THIS CASE AND JUST NOTED THE COMMENTS. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM IN BMW 5 SERIES AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU EXPERIENCED SAME ISSUE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
UNDER NORMAL LOAD BATTERY CAN BECOME DISCHARGED EVEN WHILE DRIVING CAUSING TOTAL SHUT DOWN. THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON MY WHILE DRIVING IT DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN OF ALTERNATOR CLUTCH (EFFICIENT DYNAMICS) THERE ARE COUNTLESS REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE THROUGH BMW FORUMS FOR MODEL YEARS 2010 AND 2011 OF 550I GT. IN MY SPECIFIC CASE, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TOTAL ELECTRICAL POWER LOSS WHILE DRIVING AFTER 20 MILES ON HIGHWAY. ALL WARNINGS WENT OFF AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE CAR WAS MOVING. 1. BATTERY/ALTERNATOR WHILE DRIVING CAR IT STARTED SLOWING DOWN SAYING BATTERY DISCHARGING AND FINALLY DIED ON THE ROAD. I HAD TO GET A NEW ALTERNATOR. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, MY BATTERY START DISCHARGING AGAIN AND NOW NEED A NEW BATTERY. BATTERY ONLY ONE YEAR OLD. 2. ENGINE- WITH A LITTLE OVER 81,000 MILES ENGINE WAS GETTING EXTREMLEY HOT AND COOLANT PIPES HAD TO BE REPLACED. USING COOLANT AND BURNING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 400 MILES WITH A LOT OF WHITE SMOKE. NEED VALVE STEM SEALS WHICH IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE $5,000.00. CAN'T AFFORD, SO CAR IS JUST SITTING. ANY HELP WILL BE A BLESSING.
PURCHASED CAR TWO YEARS AGO AND DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION CONTINUES TO LIGHT CONTINUALLY COMES ON, VEHICLE BEGINS TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. I'VE HAD DRIVEN LEXUS VEHICLES FOR THE PRIOR 30 YEARS AND NEVER SPENT SO MUCH TIME AT THE DEALER TRYING TO RESOLVE THE SAME PROBLEM OR ANY MECHANICAL / ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. SWITCHING TO BMW WITHIN THESE PAST TWO YEARS HAVE LITERALLY INTERRUPTED MY LIFE, COST ME TIME AND MONEY AS THIS VEHICLE WAS IN THE REPAIR SHOP (DEALER) FOR MORE THAN 70 DAYS WITHIN TWO YEARS (DEALER SPENT JUST AS MUCH TIME WITH THE CAR AS I). AFTER ALL THE REPAIRS THE FAITHFUL DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION ENTERS MY LIFE YET AGAIN. CAN YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MAJOR COMPONENT IN THIS CAR. AFTER PURCHASING FOR CASH I THOUGHT I WOULD NOT NEED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR FOR AT LEAST 5-6 OR MORE YEARS BUT ONCE AGAIN I FIND MYSELF HAVING TO NOW BUY A RELIABLE CAR. IF I KNEW BMW VEHICLES WERE THIS MUCH TROUBLE, I WOULD HAVE SAVED AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF CASH BY FINANCING INSTEAD EXPENDING THAT AMOUNT UPFRONT ONLY TO FIND MYSELF "LIVING" AT THE DEALERSHIP. SADDEST PART IS YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT ONLY THE 2011-12 BMW 550I GRAN TURISMOS AND I HAVE THE 2010. I GUESS "AFTER" I PAY FOR THE REPAIR THEN YOU WILL INITIATE A RECALL TO INCLUDE THIS YEAR AS WELL (SAME CAR AS OTHERS, EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, BUT ONE YEAR MAKING THE DIFFERENCE). CAN YOU PLEASE HELP.
EACH TIME I STARTED THE ENGINE , THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC, AND WAS TOLD THAT ENGINE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM SOMEWHERE. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE, INVOLVING THE PCV VALVE, WHICH ALSO RELATES TO LEAKAGE OF ENGINE OIL. THE RECALL POSES A FIRE RISK . I'VE CONTACTED BMW, THEY STATED "UNFORTUNATELY, THE PARTS AND PROCEDURES AREN'T AVAILABLE TO ANY DEALER YET. BMW IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON PRODUCING THE PARTS FOR THIS RECALL. " I HAVEN'T BEEN GIVEN A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME TO WHICH THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM , THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS ON THE NEWS OF BMW CARS THAT HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE , EVEN WHILE JUST BEING PARKED. I HAVE TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND I'M VER CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY.
BLOWER MOTOR SHORTED AND CAUSED WIDESPREAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AFFECTING HEADLIGHTS AND THEIR CONTROL. A LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE BLEW OUT OF THE VENTS AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING MOVED FROM THE GARAGE TO THE PARKING LOT AT A 3RD PARTY SERVICE PROVIDER.
ENGINE VALVE COVERS CRACKED, LEADING TO ACCUMULATED OIL LEAK IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD.

I WAS APPROACHING MY CAR AND CLICKED THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON MY KEY FOB. ONCE THE CAR UNLOCKED I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I UNLOCKED TO HOOD TO RELEASE PRESSURE AND QUICKLY RAN TO GRAB A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WHEN I CAME BACK TO THE CAR WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER I NOTICED FLAMES SHOOTING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. I PUT THOSE FLAMES OUT BUT AFTER TWO MINUTES MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED BY FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FINALLY ARRIVED TO THE SCENE AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS COMPLETELY PUT OUT MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. MY PARENTS HOUSE TOOK QUITE A BIT OF DAMAGE AS WELL FROM THE FLAMES SHOOTING OUT OF MY CAR.
HORN, AIR BAG AND ALL STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS PERMANENTLY SEASED WORKING AFTER A SNAP NOISE FROMTHE STEERING COLUMN HAPPEN, DRIVER SYSTEM RESTRAIN ERROR LIGHT CAME ON. WHILE GOING IN REVERSE TO GET OUT OF PARKING SPOT THE STEERING WAS TURNED FAR LEFT TO GET INTO THE STREET. WHILE TURNING THE STEERING A NOISE THAT RESEMBLES PLASTICS BREAKING CAME FROM THE STEERING COLUMN COMPARTMENT AND CLICKING SOUND THAT STILL OCCURS TODAY WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOTICEABLE AND CONCERNING IF STEERING IS RELIABLE AND SAFE. WHEN THE ORIGINAL CRACKING NOISE OCCURRED THE COMPUTER WENT OFF WITH A DRIVER RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILURE ERROR. SINCE THEN ALL COMPONENTS SUCH BUTTONS, HORN, CRUISE CONTROL, VOLUME, PHONE, AIR BAG ETC STOPPED WORKING. THE MOST CONCERNING COMPONENT THAT STOPPED WORKING IS THE HORN AND AIRBAG THAT OBVIOUSLY PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD AND A COMPONENT THAT IS NEEDED FOR SAFETY INSPECTION CHECKS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 44000 MILES TOTAL AND THE COMPONENTS FAILURE CANNOT BE BLAMED TO DRIVER IMPROPER USE OF THE CAR THAT CAN BE FILED WITH INSURANCE. THE STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS INVOLVING AIR BAGS, HORN AND OTHERS SHOULD BE RELIABLE AND STAY WORKING FOR MUCH LONGER THAN 44K MILES AND SHOULD BE A RECALL AT THE DEALERS EXPENSE. A BMW MASTER MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THESE A REPLACEABLE COMPONENTS THAT GO INSIDE THAT STEERING COLUMN COMPARTMENT THAT ARE KNOWN FOR BREAKING AND THAT BMW HAS COME OUT WITH SEVERAL "IMPROVED VERSIONS" OF THE COMPONENT SINCE THE CAR FIRST WAS RELEASED IN 2010.
2010 BMW 535XI, CAUGHT FIRE IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT RESULTING IN TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN MAINTAINED AT BMW DEALERSHIP, AND CURRENT ON ALL INSPECTIONS, REPAIRS, AND MAINTENANCE. FIRE OCCURRED IN DUNCAN DOUGHNUTS DRIVE THROUGH, SLIGHT SMELL OF SMOKE WHILE AT DRIVE THROUGH LINE. WHILE RECEIVING FOOD AT WINDOW LESS THAN A MINUTE OR TWO LATER, AND WHILE IN PARK. FLAMES SHOT THROUGH HOOD AT MIDDLE OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT BY WINDSHIELD AND REAR 1/3 OF THE MIDDLE OF THE HOOD WITH INTENSE SMOKE. IMMEDIATEL REACTION WAS TO PUT IN DRIVE AND MOVED FOREWORD TO GET AWAY FROM BUILDING TO GET OUT OF DOOR AS ENGINE DIED, WE SCRAMBLED OUT OF VEHICLE. 2 EMPLOYEES IMMEDIATELY ASSISTED WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, BUT ENGINE COMPARTMENT QUICKLY ENGULFED 1ST IN THE MIDDLE HOOD THEN LEFT HOOD AND EVENTUALLY THROUGH THE WHEELWELL. I HAVE ALL SERVICE RECORDS, AND HAVE HAD ALL REQUIRED REPAIRS, RECALLS AND MAINTENANCE PERFORMED EXCLUSIVELY AT BMW DEALERSHIP. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD NOT JUST CATCH FIRE AND BURN FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND WITHOUT AND WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATORS. CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE HERE THAT REQUIRES FURTHER INVESTIGATION. I'M REALLY LUCKY THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THAT THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND NOT IN MY GARAGE, OR GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. GLAD THAT I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY FROM THE BUILDING FAR ENOUGH TO PREVENT IT FROM CATCHING ON FIRE ALSO AND CAUSING ADDITIONAL PROPERTY DAMAGE. THIS 2010 BMW 535XI HAS ADMITTEDLY BEEN A FREQUENT FLIER AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP. IT HAS HAD THE VALVE COVERS REPLACED, CV JOINT REPLACED, , VANOS SOLENOID VALVES REPLACED, SHAFT SEAL REPLACED, REAR DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED, COOLANT PUMP REPLACED, OIL FILTER HOUSING REPLACED, FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED TWICE, BULB HOLDERS REPLACED, SIDE LIGHTS REPLACED, REPROGRAMMED ECT.
I HAVE A WARNING LIGHT ON DURING DRIVING "PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM" MALFUNCTIONS". BMW STATES THERE IS A 10YR "WARRANTY" (RECALL) ON THIS ISSUE BUT MY VIN DOES FALL IN THE SERIES OF VIN'S . MY YEAR 2010 IS NOT COVERED, YET I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE MANY OTHERS HAVE AND I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SINCE THIS KILLS MY RESALE VALUE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I CALLED THE DEALER FOR MY 2010 528I AND THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS NO RECALL; HOWEVER I SEE THOUSANDS OF USERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE.

WHILE TRAVELING IN THE MIDST OF TRAFFIC ON BUSY ROADWAY THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED OPERATING(ON-BOARD COMPUTER DISPLAY). I RECEIVED A MESSAGE INDICATING THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO OPERATE BUT SHOULD BE CHECKED. I MANAGED TO STEER THE VEHICLE FROM THE MAIN ROADWAY BEFORE THE POWER STEERING CEASED TO OPERATE. THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT IN WHICH THE FUEL PUMP FAILURE OCCURRED. A PREVIOUS REPOST WAS MADE TO THE NHTSA #(10938620). A SAFETY RECALL WAS ACTIVATED FOR SEVERAL VEHICLE WITH THE SAME HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, BUT MY VIN IS NOT LISTED IN THE DATABASE. I FEAR FOR MY LIFE AND FOR THE LIVES OF OTHERS THAT COULD BE LINKED TO THE POTENTIAL TRAGEDY THAT MAY OCCUR. TODAY MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BMW SERVICE CENTER FOR ASSESSMENT. TWO TIMES IN THE PAST FIVE DAYS MY 2010 BMW 535XI HAS SHUT DOWN. EACH TIME IT HAS MALFUNCTIONED(12/24/16 AND 12/29/16), THE AUTOMATIC DOWNSHIFT ACTIVATED). ONCE WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR AND ONCE WHILE TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 55 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOLLED TO A LOCAL GARAGE. SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVING THE TOW OPERATOR STARTED THE VEHICLE. IT STARTED WITHOUT HESITATION A SECOND TIME. MANY TIMES DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR DOES NOT UNLOCK WHEN THE LEVER WAS PULLED TWICE. IT ONLY UNLOCKS WHEN THE ELECTRIC UNLOCK BUTTON IS PUSHED. IT COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS DURING AN ACCIDENT IF POWER IS LOST AND I COULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOOR. THIS PROBLEM HAS STARTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR TOO.
