THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 550I GRAN TURISMO. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED, THE DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER TRAIN SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVE TRAIN SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER THE MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: N63 (POWER TRAIN). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,500.
CAR STARTED SPUTTERING AND STALLED AFTER TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 528XI. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
YELLOW ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WAS TESTED AND NOTHING WAS FOUND. IT STARTED USING MORE GAS THAN USUAL AND LONG-CRANKS STARTING THE ENGINE AND SHAKING AFTER THE ENGINE STARTED. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS ALL 6 FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED REPLACEMENT AS THEY WERE LEAKING GASOLINE, THEY ALL FAILED AT 73,000 MILES.
FUEL INJECTORS FAILED AT 51000 MILES CASUING LOSS OF ENGINE POWER RANDOMLY WITHOUT WARNING EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. TECHNICIAN STATES I NEED ALL SIX INJECTORS REPLACED.
LOST OF POWER WHILE DRIVING, 2 INCIDENT: BAD VIBRATIONS WHILE AT A IDLE.
WHILE DRIVING, ALL OF A SUDDEN, IT COMES TO NEUTRAL AND ENGINE RPM GOES TO AROUND 4000 AND TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONING SIGN COMES. I HAVE TO PULLOVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE. AFTER THAT IT RUNS SMOOTH. IT HAPPENS ONCE A WHILE. IN LAST TWO MONTHS IT HAPPENED SIX TIMES. TWO TIMES I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND HARDLY SURVIVED FROM THE ACCIDENTS. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN.
2010 BMW 528I, HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM AND AIR BAG SYSTEM LIGHTS STAY ON. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OVER THE INTERNET FORUMS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY BMW.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 BMW 535I. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRICAL CABLE LOOSENED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
MY CAR SMELLS LIKE GAS. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO TWO BMW SHOPS AND IT'S THE SAME THING EVERY TIME. THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. PLUS, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS IN ALL THE TIME. THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THE SAME THING THAT CAN'T FINE THE PROBLEM. ALSO, MY HEADLIGHTS HAS A MALFUNCTION PROBLEM, IT WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO WORK.
WHILE HAVING MY OIL CHANGED, I TOLD THE MECHANIC THAT I SMELLED A LITTLE BIT OF GASOLINE WHEN DRIVING AND TO CHECK IT OUT. I WAS SHOWN THAT UNDER THE BACK SEAT, BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE THERE IS A SENDING UNIT AND A FUEL LINE THAT TRANSFERS GAS FROM ONE TANK TO ANOTHER. THIS PLASTIC COMPONENT HAS A TIP WHERE THE FUEL LINE CONNECTS. THIS TIP CRACKED AND BROKE (NO IDEA WHY), LEAKING AND POOLING GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAR, DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE PASSENGER SEAT AND FILLING THE CAR WITH HIGHLY COMBUSTIBLE FUMES. SO MUCH SO THAT THE MECHANIC I TOOK THIS CAR TO, WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE IT OUT OF THERE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS HAD ME LEAVE THIS CAR FOR FIVE DAYS AT A BMW DEALERSHIP WHILE THEY WENT THROUGH THEIR PROCESS. THEN, THEY INFORMED ME THEY ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND THEY DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A DEFECT OR A FLAWED DESIGN.MY CAR IS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD AND IS KEPT IN PERFECT CONDITION. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. I FEAR I WILL READ ABOUT SOME PERSON OR FAMILY BEING BURNED ALIVE AND I FEEL I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. I HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS IF YOU NEED THEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVE BELTS, BATTERY, INTELLIGENT BATTERY SENSOR (IBS) SYSTEM, BOLTS, HOSE AND ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V176000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000.*DT
WHEEL CRACKED - RUN FLAT TIRES WOULD NOT HOLD AIR DUE TO UNEXPLAINED CRACK IN WHEEL
SEAT BELT ON DRIVERS SEAT WILL NOT RELEASE FROM LATCH; POSING A SAFETY HAZARD. NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE INSULATION COVERING THE WIRES GOING TO THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (ANGEL EYES) BULBS HAS SPLIT AND CAUSED A SHORT OR AN ARC WHICH HAS VISIBLY BURNED AND MELTED THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR TO THE BULB AND CAUSED THE LIGHT TO MALFUNCTION AND PRODUCE WARNINGS INSIDE THE CAR. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. EVEN MORE SO BECAUSE POWER CONTINUES TO FLOW THROUGH THE WIRES AS EVIDENCED BY THE FACT THAT JIGGLING THE WIRES SOMETIMES MAKES THE BULB LIGHT UP. *TR
WHILE DRIVING CAR BEGAN SLUGGISH AND THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE #2 AND #5 ENGINE COILS. I REPLACED THOSE. TWO WEEKS LATER SAME PROBLEM ENGINE COIL #2 HAD TO BE REPLACED. TWO MONTHS LATER SAME PROBLEM - ENGINE COILS #1, #2, AND #5 HAD TO BE REPLACED. NO EXPLANATION FOR THE CONTINUED PROBLEM. THEIR ONLY SUGGESTION IS TO HAVE THEM ALL REPLACED. SEEMS LIKE THERE'S A BIGGER PROBLEM HERE. *TR
HAD 3 IGNITION COILS REPLACED AT 49000 MILES. WAS CAUSING ROUGH IDLE. HAD 3 MORE IGNITION COILS REPLACED AT 67000 MILES. WAS CAUSING ROUGH IDLE. HAD FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED IN CYLINDER 3. *TR
ON 9-2-14 SURROUND 11:30 AM AC UNIT STOPPED WORKING, COMPRESSOR ON THE AC UNIT IS IN FUNCTION, HOWEVER THE AC FAN IS NOT BLOWING AIR, THERE IS NO MALFUNCTION ON FUSES OR RELAYS, THERE'S MIGHT BE AN INDICATION OF THE FSU OR FINAL STAGE UNIT AS OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS PART. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON FREEWAY TO THE AIRPORT WHEN MY WIFE AND I HEARD A LOUD BOOM AND SUDDENLY HEARD LOUD AIRFLOW. I PULLED OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD AND INSPECTED CAR. THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED AND SHATTERED. THE CAR TRAVELING BEHIND ME ALSO STOPPED TO INSPECT HIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FLYING GLASS. THE CABIN DOOR TO THE SUNROOF HAD LUCKILY HAD BEEN CLOSED SO AS MY WIFE AND I AVOIDED THE FLYING GLASS. WHEN WE RETURNED FROM OUR TRIP I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER SAID THIS PART WAS NOT COVERED AND WOULD COST $3600 TO REPAIR. WE GOGGLED BMW5 SERIES EXPLODING SUNROOFS AND DISCOVERED WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES TO EXPERIENCE EXPLODING SUNROOFS. SURELY BMW KNOWS ABOUT THIS POTENTIALLY GRIEVOUS PROBLEM. WE CALLED BMW NORTH AMERICA AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE RESOLUTION DEPARTMENT. THE NEXT DAY BMW TO MY CHAGRIN WAS WILLING TO PAY 50 PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COST. I EXPECTED FULL COVERAGE. I NEEDED THE CAR BACK AND EXCEPTED OFFER VOWING NEVER TO BUY A BMW AGAIN. I EXPECTED TO BECOME WHOLE AND NOT EXPECTING BMW IGNORING THE PROBLEM THUS ENDANGERING THEIR DRIVERS FOR ECONOMIC REASONS. ONCE AGAIN GOGGLE BMW 5 SERIES EXPLODING SUNROOFS. I TOOK VEHICLE TO LEXUS DEALER AND TRADED IT. I WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT CAR. UNFORTUNATELY I OWN ANOTHER BMW5. WHAT I WANT FROM NHTSA IS TO INSPECT THE PROBLEM AND I STILL WANT TO BE COMPENSATED FOR THE ENTIRE COST OF THE PROBLEM NOT JUST 50 PERCENT. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGERS SEAT INDICATOR LIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WAS EMPTY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
THE PASSENGER MIRROR WILL MOVE OUT OF POSITION ON ITS OWN WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY CONTROLS. THIS WILL ALSO OCCUR WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. AFTER REVIEWING VARIOUS INTERNET POSTINGS OTHER BMW OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CAN ADVERSELY IMPACT THE DRIVER'S REAR VISION. *TR
MY 3 KIDS AND I HAD LEFT THE BMW DEALER AFTER I HAD PARTS SERVICED/PARTS REPLACED, AND JUMPED ON THE INTERSTATE. I WAS CRUISING AROUND 70MPH WHEN I FELT THE CAR SLOW DOWN AND THE MSG "ENGINE MALFUNCTION, REDUCE SPEED" APPEARED. I VEERED TO THE RIGHT A LITTLE,BUT I QUICKLY FOUND AND EXIT AND PULLED OVER. FORTUNATELY, THE TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE WAS LITE AND AN ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED, BUT IT DID GET MY HEART RACING. THE DEALER SAID THIS WAS A "COMMON" TYPE OF MSG, BUT I'M WEARY. I TRIED TELLING THEM ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP ISSUE, BUT THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT AFFECTED. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND I JUST PAID TO HAVE MY CAR SERVICED AND DIAGNOSED! THEY ALSO SUGGESTED I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THE ISSUE FORCES ME TO HAVE TO BRING IT IN - BASICALLY UNTIL SOMETHING BREAKS. I WOULD HAVE THE DEALER WOULD HAVE STARTED WITH REPLACING THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND MOVING ON FROM THERE SINCE IT IS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED IT WITH AN ENGINE LOSS. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE CAM SHAFT IN THE ENGINE BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
IGNITION COIL MALFUNCTION RECURS AFTER DEALERSHIP REPAIRS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. CAUSES ENGINE SPEED TO VARY AND BE OUTSIDE THE DRIVERS CONTROL. *TR
DESCRIPTION: THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR WENT BAD. AS A RESULT, DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN HANDLE IS DOUBLE-PULLED. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS, THE DOOR IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT, IT CANNOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY BY PULLING THE LOCK STUD UP... THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR IS TO PULL THE HANDLE TWICE. THEREFORE, WHEN THE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTIONS, THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AND GET OUT OF THE CAR IS BY PRESSING THE UNLOCK BUTTON WHICH IS ON THE MAIN CONTROL PANEL. RISK: IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT WITH A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, SHE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND GET OUT OF THE CAR. IF THE PASSENGER IS A CHILD OR SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THE UNLOCK BUTTON IN THE MAIN CONTROL PANEL, IT MIGHT GET VERY SERIOUS. FREQUENCY: ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR WENT BAD, AND WAS REPLACED UNDER MY WARRANTY (UNDER 50K). BUT, I HAD TO PUT UP A FIGHT TO GET IT COVERED BY WARRANTY. NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE ACTUATOR IS GONE. AND BMW REFUSES TO FIX IT UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. BROWSING ONLINE, I FOUND QUITE A FEW PEOPLE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. I PURCHASED A PRE-OWNED 2010 BMW 535I ON 12/31/2013. THE NEXT DAY (NEW YEAR'S DAY), AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATION, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY SHUT DOWN, COMING TO A ROLLING STOP. AS SOON AS THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE DASHBOARD SHOWED A "FUEL PUMP" WARNING, WHICH ALSO NOTED THAT "CONTINUED DRIVING IS POSSIBLE." HOWEVER, SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RE-START WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL, AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED TO A SAFE LOCATION. PRIOR TO THE ENGINE FAILURE, I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH ON A 2-LANE DIVIDE ROADWAY, WHERE CONSTRUCTION BARRICADES REPLACED THE SHOULDER. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED JUST AROUND MIDNIGHT, AND THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TRAFFIC, SO WE WERE SPARED CERTAIN CATASTROPHE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY HOME, AND ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON, WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM THERE. FOR THE NEXT 30+ DAYS, VARIOUS FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM COMPONENTS WERE SERVICED AND/OR REPLACED INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING: HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP REPLACED; LOW-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP REPLACED; FUEL INJECTORS FLUSHED, IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS REPLACED. AFTER EACH OF THOSE "FIXES", THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US, AND SHUT DOWN AGAIN ON THE ROAD AND IN TRAFFIC WITHIN 2 DAYS. FINALLY, THE INJECTION PUMP CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED, AND THE VEHICLE UNDERWENT A COMPLETE SOFTWARE SYSTEM UPDATE. WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE FOR THE 4TH TIME ON 2/3/2014, AND IT APPEARS THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED AND OUR SAFETY RESTORED.... *TR
I NOTICED A SMELL OF FUEL EACH TIME MY WIFE PARKED HER CAR INSIDE OUR GARAGE. HER CAR FOR DUE A SERVICE SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR A FULL SERVICE. THE MECHANIC CALLED AND ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN SMELLING FUEL INSIDE OR AROUND THE VEHICLE. HE THEN EXPLAINED THAT HE SUSPECTED IT WAS ORIGINATING FROM UNDERNEATH THE REAR SEAT. HE LATER CONTACTED ME TO EXPLAIN THAT THE PLASTIC TUBE LOCATED ON TOP OF THE IN-TANK ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY HAD DEVELOPED A CRACK AND WAS ALLOWING FUEL TO SPRAY OUT ON TOP OF THE ASSEMBLY, WHICH WAS ALLOWING FUEL AND FUMES TO BUILD-UP IN-AND-AROUND THE VEHICLE. HE RECOMMENDED WE REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. WHEN I WENT TO PICKUP THE VEHICLE, HE SHOWED ME THE CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, AND EXPLAINED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN ONE CRACK LIKE THAT. TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR MAINTENANCE AND FINDING THE PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY AT THE TIME THAT WE DID, I BELIEVE, WAS A DISASTER AVOIDED. WE ARE PLANNING A TRIP OUT OF TOWN, AND WILL LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN OUR GARAGE FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 DAYS. OUR HOME GAS (OPEN FLAMED) HOT WATER HEATER IS LOCATED INSIDE OUR GARAGE. MY WIFE OFTEN BACKED HER CAR INTO OUR GARAGE WHICH PLACED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 FEET FROM THE OPEN FLAMES OF THE HOT WATER HEATER. I SHUTTER TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF WE HAD LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH THE LEAKING FUEL AND FUMES, AND OPEN FLAMES FROM THE HOT WATER HEATER SHUTUP IN OUR GARAGE FOR 5 DAYS. NOT ONLY WOULD WE HAVE LOST OUR CAR, BUT QUITE POSSIBLY OUR HOME. *TR
EXPERIENCING HARD BUMP WHEN BRAKING, HARD SHIFTS IN SPORT MODE, SLOW TO ENGAGE IN REVERSE AND HUNTING FOR THE RIGHT GEAR WHEN COASTING. THIS DELAYED AND JERKY RESPONSE PRESENTS A SEVERE DRIVING RISK AND DANGER AS THE VEHICLE BEHAVIOR IS UNPREDICTABLE AND INCONSISTENT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO MY ENTIRE SET OF RIGHT REAR LIGHTS WENT OUT ON MY CAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I TOOK TO AAA AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG BUT GOT LIGHTS WORKING, THEY THOUGHT JUST LOOSE WIRES. A WEEK OR SO AGO STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO AAA AND THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE THE WHOLE BOARD FOR LIGHTS AND TO TAKE TO DEALER. I THEN READ ONLINE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY YEAR/MODEL OF CAR FOR REAR TAIL LIGHTS. SERVICE REPORT INDICATED SIDE LIGHTS OF THE VEHICLE WERE LEFT ON FOR 2 HOURS AND 40 MINUTES THAT CAUSED THE BATTERY FAILURE. FACTS: -MILEAGE WHEN THE FAULT OCCURRED WAS INDICATED AT 58091KM = 36096 MILES -ODOMETER READING WHEN BROUGHT TO SHOP WAS 36184. - RECEIVED VEHICLE ON FEB 1, 2013 @ 27291 MILES. -FROM 2/1/2013 TO 9/10/2013 THERE ARE 155 WORKING DAYS. -TOTAL MILES DRIVEN UP TO 9/10/2013 WAS 8805 (36184 ? 27291). SO MY AVERAGE DAILY MILEAGE IS 56.8 MILES. -IF THE FAULT OCCURRED AT 36096 MILES THAT MEANS IT WAS LESS THAN TWO DAYS BEFORE CAR IN THE SHOP. IT WOULD BE EITHER FRIDAY 9/6/13 OR OVER THE WEEKEND OF 9/8 OR 9/9 WHICH WAS THE SECOND TIME WARNING CAME ON. -THE SYMPTOM FIRST OCCURRED AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE CAN IN SHOP. SINCE THE FAULT READING INDICATED SOME ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WAS LEFT ON FOR 2:40 HOURS, THE WARRANTY WAS REJECTED. FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, ONE OF THE FOLLOWING EVENTS MUST OCCUR FOR THE BATTERY TO BE DRAINED FOR THAT EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. 1.THE CAR DOOR WAS LEFT OPEN FOR 2:40 HOURS BUT THE CAR KEY MUST BE IN THE VICINITY OF THE CAR 2.SOMEONE SAT IN THE CAR FOR 2:40 HOURS AND TURNED ON THE RADIO 3.SOMEHOW SOME OF THE LIGHTS OF THE CAR WERE TURNED ON FOR THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME FROM WHAT I CAN TELL AND EXPERIMENTED WITH THE CAR, NONE OF THE ABOVE COULD HAVE HAPPENED. 1.IF THE CAR KEY IS NOT IN THE VICINITY OF THE CAR, NO LIGHTS OR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WILL BE TURNED ON FOR THAT LONG PERIOD OF TIME. 2.IF THE CAR IS LOCKED THEN ALL LIGHTS ARE CUT OFF ANYWAY. 3.NO ONE SAT IN THE CAR FOR 2:40 HOURS AND NOT IN MOTION. THIS TELLS ME EITHER THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL LEAK OR THE BATTERY PREMATURELY LOST ITS EFFICIENCY. IN EITHER EVENTS, THE BATTERY SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT REFUSED BY BMW. *TR
I RECEIVED A DISPLAYED MESSAGE THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITH THE REAR LAMP. WHEN CHECKING THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND WIRING, I NOTICED THE CONNECTOR ON THE TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY WAS MELTED (PLASTIC) WHERE THE BROWN GROUND WIRE CONNECTED. THE MALE/FEMALE CONNECTOR PARTS GOT SO HOT THAT THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR WAS MELTED WHERE THE GROUND WIRE CONNECTS. THIS WAS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, BUT IT IS LIKELY THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE HEAT GENERATED TO MELT THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE GROUND WIRE TO BURN AND THE BRAKE/REAR LIGHTS TO FAIL. WITH A FAILURE OF THE REAR LIGHTS, AN ACCIDENT COULD HAPPEN. *JB

AFTER HITTING A BUMP WHEN ENTERING A DRIVEWAY, WATER SPILLED IN THE REAR CARGO AREA OF THE STATION WAGON, WATER DRAINED INTO SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL WHERE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES RESIDE SHORTING OUT MOST MAJOR CONTROLS-ANTI LOCK BRAKES, LOAD LEVELING, TRANSMISSION, TRACTION CONTROL, ETC. IT IS THE LOWEST POINT OF THE CAR'S INTERIOR. *TR
I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR IN SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS COMPLAINT TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. I HAVE A SEVERE GAS FUME SMELL IN MY CAR, IN MY TRUNK AND AROUND MY CAR. HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND PARK AND RETURN TO THE CAR TYPICALLY. SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AND TURN OFF THE CAR. IF I PARK IN MY GARAGE THE GARAGE SMELLS LIKE GAS/GAS FUMES FOR A LENGTHY PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT AFTER TESTING BY THE DEALER THAT THERE IS NO GAS LEAK. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. HAPPENS MAINLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS BUT, I LIVE IN AZ SO THAT ACCOUNTS FOR 9 MONTHS. I FEEL THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, THE FUMES ARE NOXIOUS AND REMAIN IN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR FOR AWHILE. I ASK MY CHILDREN TO GET IN THE CAR WHEN IT SMELLS LIKE GAS FUMES UPON PICKING THEM UP FROM SCHOOL. I HAVE OWNED OTHER CARS IN AZ AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE WITH GAS FUME SMELLS CONSUMING THE INTERIOR OF MY CAR NOR GARAGE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE HAVE SURFACED IN RENO AND TUCSON. SUGGESTING THIS MAY BE A RESULT OF THE GAS BEING DIFFERENT IN THESE TWO CITIES. THAT MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE AS I FREQUENTLY BUY GAS IN PHOENIX AND HAVE GAS FUME ISSUES. I CANNOT GET THE DEALER TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM TO THE EXTENT OF A SOLUTION. I KNOW THIS IS NOT NORMAL NOR ACCEPTABLE. I FELL UNSAFE WITH MY YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR. FROM A VERY SLOW ROLL THERE IS A DELAY IN ENGINE RESPONSE OF 1-2 SECONDS. THERE IS ALSO A DELAY IN ENGINE RESPONSE IN THE 10-30 MPH RANGE OF THE SAME LENGTH OF TIME. THE SLOW ROLL EVENT CAN CAUSE CONFUSION TO OTHER DRIVERS WHO BELIEVE YOU ARE YIELDING THE RIGHT AWAY WHEN YOU DO NOT ACCELERATE IN A TIMELY MANNER GOING FORWARD OR MAKING A TURNING MOVEMENT. THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT IF A PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLIST OR ANOTHER CAR TAKES THE DELAY AS A SIGN THAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. THE DELAYED ENGINE RESPONSE IN THE 10-30 MPH RANGE IS OF GREAT CONCERN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE ONTO A FREEWAY FROM A SHORT ON-RAMP IN MODERATE TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE RESPONSE DELAY IS VERY PRONOUNCED UNDER HARD THROTTLE AND HAS CAUSED HEAVY BRAKING BY CARS UNSURE IF I'M GOING TO BE AT SPEED WHEN MERGING. *TR

ON JANUARY 12, 2013, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY ON A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OF ROUGHLY 70 MPH, OUR 2010 BMW 535I SEDAN, SUDDENLY LOST POWER, STALLED, COULD NOT ACCELERATE, AND BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AS I CROSSED 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC; SURPRISINGLY GUIDED THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO BMW AND WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. MANAGER TOLD ME IT MAY HAVE BEEN BAD GAS. SINCE OCTOBER 22, 2012 THE VEHICLE HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN 3 MORE TIMES. EACH INCIDENT WITH THE REDUCTION IN POWER HAS OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND THE TERRAIN WAS DIFFERENT. EACH TIME IT IS TAKEN TO BMW I WAS TOLD THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED I TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF ABOUT TEN TIMES AFTER PUTTING FUEL IN IT. THAT DID NOT, NOR HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. AFTER VIEWING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SERIES I HAVE FOUND I' AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

THIS IS A 2010 BMW 550I GT WITH THE SPORT PACKAGE. IT HAS THE STAR SPOKE WHEELS AND RUN FLAT TIRES. THE TIRES AND WHEELS ARE ORIGINAL FROM THE FACTORY. THE LOW TIRE INDICATOR CAME ON SO WE TOOK THE TIRE IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD AN INDUSTRIAL STAPLE IN THE MIDDLE THE TREAD. BMW WOULD NOT REPAIR THE TIRE BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT PATCH A RUN FLAT TIRE. WE WERE THEREFORE FORCED TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE. THE TIRE HAD 17K MILES ON IT AND STILL HAD A LOT OF TREAD. BMW ORDERED A NEW TIRE AND PUT IT ON. WHEN WE CAME TO PICK UP THE CAR THE TIRE WAS FLAT. BMW TOOK IT BACK AND FOUND THAT THE WHEEL WAS CRACKED. WE DID NOTHING TO CRACK THIS WHEEL. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A TIRE SHOP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING DONE TO THIS WHEEL. THE WHEEL DOESN'T HAVE A SCRATCH ON IT. IT JUST CRACKED UNDER NORMAL USE. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO BMW AND THEY JUST SAY ITS NOT COVERED. I KNOW ITS NOT COVERED, BUT THEY ARE NOT EVEN INTERESTED ENOUGH TO SEND AN ENGINEER OUT TO LOOK AT IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION ON A CAR THAT HAS A SPEED LIMITER SET AT 150 MPH, YET BMW DOES NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN IT. I STILL HAVE THE WHEEL AND TIRE. *JB
