The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
Valve stem seal issue. Car burns excessive oil. More than a quart every several 100 miles. The issue seems to be consistent across this engine model number N62. My vin number is [XXX] and as a multiple BMW owner, I think BMW should recall and fix all BMWs with these issues that are appear to be a manufacturing defect. SUFFERED SUDDEN ENGINE STALL IN AN EXPRESSWAY WITH NO APPARENT EXPLANATION OR REASON LAST MONTH. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED. THE FIRST TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY SEVERAL MONTHS EARLIER AND AFTER LIMPING TO A SAFE PLACE AND TURNING THE MOTOR OFF, RESTING FOR A WHILE, IT RESTARTED. I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED DURING ITS ANNUAL OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE SUFFERED AN ENGINE MISFIRE IN TWO PISTONS, ALLEGEDLY DUE TO TWO FAULTY COILS. ABOUT A MONTH LATER I SUFFERED THE SECOND INCIDENT IN AN EXPRESSWAY BUT IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC. THE MOTOR WAS VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND IT COULD NOT ACCELERATE SO I WAS UNABLE TO CHANGE LANES OR REACH THE ROADSIDE SAFETY LANE. THE VEHICLE BARELY LIMPED AT ABOUT 25 MPH. AFTER MANAGING TO GET OFF THE ROAD I TURNED THE MOTOR OFF AND AFTER WAITING A WHILE WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON IT WORKED ADEQUATELY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN WHO INFORMED THAT IT HAD SUFFERED ANOTHER ENGINE MISFIRE BUT IN TWO OTHER PISTONS, ALSO ALLEGEDLY DUE TO TWO OTHER FAULTY COILS. I HAVE BEEN A BMW OWNER FOR 20 YEARS AND NEVER SUFFERED ANYTHING SIMILAR. THE EXPLANATION GIVEN IS HIGHLY SUSPECT. THIS SUDDEN AND UNEXPLAINED ENGINE MISFIRE AND STALL IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND MUST BE INVESTIGATED. *JS
