BRAKES HAVE NO POWER ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT RECALL #10V446000 WAS IN FREEWAY ALL SUDDEN LOST BRAKES LOOK ON LINE THIS WHAT I FOUND CALL MANUFACTURE DEALER THEY DENIED SERVICE
BRAKES SUDDENLY BECAME VERY HARD TO ENGAGE. IT TOOK QUITE A BIT OF FORCE TO BRING THE CAR TO A COMPLETE STOP. A MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND THAT BMW HAD A RECALL FOR THE SYSTEM - 10V-466. I CALLED BMW WARRANTY AND INFORMED THEM OF THE REASON FOR MY CALL AS WELL AS THE VIN. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALL NOTICES FOR MY VEHICLE. WHILE NO ONE COULD TELL ME WHEN, THE FACT THAT THERE WERE NO OUTSTANDING RECALL NOTICES ON THIS VEHICLE APPARENTLY INDICATING THAT THE CORRECTION ON THE CAR HAD BEEN MADE. AFTER A LENGTHY DEBATE ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANT AND WHY BMW SAID THEY HAD NO MORE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE, I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR. I GOT SARAH (EMPLOYEE #7716), AN ESCALATION SUPERVISOR. VERY NICE BUT ESSENTIALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING SHE COULD DO, THAT BMW WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MATTER AND THERE WAS NO ONE THAT SHE COULD ESCALATE ME TO. IF THE CORRECTION, AS SPELLED OUT IN THE RECALL NOTICE WAS IN FACT MADE, IT DID NOT WORK. THE ACTUAL LANGUAGE USED IN THE RECALL NOTICE UNDER CORRECTION STATES AS FOLLOWS: 'THE UPDATED BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY LINE WITH FLUID CHECK VALVE IS TO BE INSTALLED IN ALL APPLICABLE VEHICLES TO ELIMINATE FUTURE CONTAMINATION.' (THE EMPHASIS IS MINE) I HAD ESC SAVE ALL OF THE PARTS AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED THAT IN FACT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS CONTAMINATED WITH OIL WHICH CAUSED THE MEMBRANE TO FAIL. TO ME, THIS MEANS ONE OF TWO THINGS: 1. THE UPDATED BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY LINE WITH FLUID CHECK WAS NEVER INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE; OR 2. THE BMW SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WAS FAULTY. AS FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM SUPPLY LINE, IT APPEARS THAT THE LINE WAS REPLACED AT 97K MILES IN AUGUST OF 2013. SO WHAT GOOD DID THAT DO? IT FAILED AGAIN, (I HAVE ALL OF THE PARTS) IN LESS THAN 5 YEARS. SEE DOCUMENTATION ATTACHED.
BRAKE VACUUM PUMP BOOSTER HAS FAILED DUE TO CONTAMINATION EVEN AFTER BRAKE BOOSTER SUPPLY LINE WAS REPLACED IN DECEMBER, 4, 2010. WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THE CAR LOSES POWER TO BRAKES, BRAKE PEDAL FEELS HARD AND VEHICLE TAKES 20-30 FT LONGER TO BRAKE EVEN IF PUSHING DOWN WITH MAXIMUM FORCE. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TO TAKE AN INFINITE AMOUNT OF TIME TO STOP, WHICH RESULTED IN CAR NEARLY RUNNING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN ISSUE OCCURRED. LUCKILY I SWERVED OFF HIGHWAY UNTO MEDIAN. THIS ISSUE CAN RESULT IN DEATH OR CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT AS BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM PUMP IS AFFECTED IN SUCH A WAY THAT BRAKE POWER IS 50% LESS THAN NORMAL, LOW TO NEGLIGIBLE BRAKE POWER MEANS CAR DOES NOT STOP NORMALLY, IT TAKES MORE TIME TO STOP, WHICH CAN LEAD TO DEATH FROM REAR END COLLISIONS, FREAK ACCIDENTS AND EVEN RUNNING INTO PERSONS OR OBJECTS WHEN PARKING.
WHILE STOPPING, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD AND WENT TO THE FLOOR, JUST BARELY AVOIDING A CATASTROPHE. THIS HAPPENED WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER, AND THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MULTIPLE DEATH ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED BMW OF NA AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I CLEARLY SHOULD BE, BECAUSE I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE BRAKE CLAMP AND VACUUM PIPE WERE REPLACED. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE BRAKES STILL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSIED THAT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 81,000.
AS A CONSUMER AND ALSO READING ABOUT OTHER CONSUMERS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS, THE OEM PART WHICH BMW IS CHARGING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS OVER $6,000. THE PARTS ARE ONLY FOR THE 2006 760I AND THEY SEEMS TO BE GOING OUT ON A LOT OF PEOPLE. SOME CONSUMERS WERE LUCKY TO HAVE IT GO OUT DURING THEIR WARRANTY BUT SOME HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS TYPE OF EXPENSE AFTER WARDS. IF THIS PART SEEMS TO GO OUT ON A LOT OF 760I MODELS IN BMW THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OUT THEIR TO FIX THEM. I CAN UNDERSTAND IF THERE WAS A FEW BUT THERE ARE AT LEAST 20 JUST ON THE FORUM THAT I NORMALLY GO TO FOR ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC AND BMW NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS ONLY ON ONE MODEL AND THAT THE COST OF THIS IS OVERWHELMING.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V446000 (SERVICE BRAKES HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
ROLLAWAY: CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005 THROUGH 2008 7 SERIES EQUIPPED WITH THE COMFORT ACCESS OPTION AND MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 23, 2004 THROUGH JULY 24, 2008 HAVE AN ELECTRONIC KEY AND AN ELECTRONIC CONNECTION BETWEEN THE GEAR SHIFTER AND THE TRANSMISSION (SHIFT-BY-WIRE) THAT AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTS THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK WHEN THE DRIVER PRESSES THE START/STOP BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE. IF THE ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON IS PRESSED 2 OR 3 TIMES WITHIN A SHORT TIME INTERVAL, THE SYSTEM MAY SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL RATHER THAN PARK. IF USING THE ELECTRONIC KEY (COMFORT ACCESS MODE), THERE WOULD BE NO PROTECTION FROM THE IGNITION INTERLOCK THAT PREVENTS KEY REMOVAL IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK.

BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO RUSSELL BMW WHO TOLD ME I HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. RECALL 93562 IS NOW POSTED ON BMW WEBSITE DETAILING THE SAME ISSUE. SPOKE TO A REP WHO DISMISSED MY VEHICLE COMPLAINT BECAUSE THE VIN # DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE LUXURY PACKAGE THEREFORE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. 2ND ISSUE..THE VEHICLE BRAKES WHEN APPLIED DOES NOT STOP. TWICE IT'S HAPPEN WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW OR STOP RESULTING IN SCARING ME HALF TO DEATH AND NEAR ACCIDENTS. I ALSO ADDRESS THE RECALL 87903 WITH THE REP WHO ONCE AGAIN TOLD ME THE VIN IS NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE YEAR AND MODEL IS INCLUDED AS PART OF THE RECALL THE QUESTION I POSE IS WHY IS THE VIN DETERMINING THE QUALIFICATION OF THE NEED TO HAVE BMW RESPONSIBLY FIX THE 1ST YEAR MODEL OF THEIR TRIAL AND ERROR VEHICLES. I PAID WAY TOO MUCH TO BE TOLD THAT BECAUSE I DID NOT HAVE THE COMFORT PACKAGE MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THEIR RECALL? THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. ..UPDATED 11/26/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED VACUUM PUMP LEAKED OIL INTO THE VACUUM BOOSTER PIPE THAT CONNECTED TO THE BRAKE BOOSTER. 2006 BMW 750 LI. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE OIL LEAK AND MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. *SMD THE DEALER AGREED TO FIX THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, WHEN THE CONSUMER PICKED THE VEHICLE UP, THE LEAK WAS STILL PRESENT. THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAD MULTIPLE LEAKS; THE ALTERNATOR MOUNT BRACKET SEAL WAS LEAKING, AS WELL AS THE VALVE GUIDE SEALS, THE UPPER TIMING CASE COVER SEALS, THE VALLEY PAN WAS LEAKING COOLANT AND THE VACUUM PUMP WAS LEAKING. THE MECHANIC STATED EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD A GOOD APPEARANCE, HE OBSERVED SIGNS OF WEAR ON THE ENGINE PARTS AND ROAD GRIME AND STAINS ON OTHER ENGINE PARTS. *JB UPDATED 04/16/14. *JB

THE MECHANIC FOUND CONTAMINATION IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PER THE RECALL, THE BRAKE BOOSTER COULD BECOME CONTAMINATED OVER TIME DUE TO THE RECALLED FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.

CONSEQUENTLY, I SEEN THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2006 BMWS WITH A NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER OF 10V446000 WITH A RECALL DATE OF 2012-10-01 FOR THE VACUUM PUMP. AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL LETTER FROM BMW FOR THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP (RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 10V-446), I TOOK THE CAR TO CREVIER BMW BUT WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM CREVIER BMW, FORGOT ABOUT IT UNTIL THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER IN IRVINE. THEY REPLACED THE VACUUM SUPPLY LINE BUT NOT THE VACUUM PUMP. THEY RECOMMENDED I REPLACE THE LEAKING VACUUM PUMP AT MY COST OF OVER $900.THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM INCLUDED IN THE RECALL LETTER FROM BMW SPECIFICALLY INDICATES THAT THE LEAK FROM THE VACUUM PUMP INTO THE VACUUM HOSE, IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO J, MCCLAIN AT BMW AND SHE SAID THAT THE RECALL IS A FEDERAL MANDATE AND THIS MANDATE ONLY REQUIRES THEM TO REPLACE THE LINE NOT THE PUMP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL INDICATED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP WAS THE SOURCE OF THE FAILURE AND IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON NOV 29, 2010 I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR STANDARD MAINTENANCE AS WELL AS TO INVESTIGATE LEAKS THAT WERE OCCURRING. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL THAT THEY NEEDED TO PERFORMANCE MAINTENANCE ON AS WELL RELATED TO THE BRAKES. LEAKS WERE REPAIRED, RECALL WORK (BRAKE LINE AND VACUUM PIPE) COMPLETED. ON MAR 3, 2011 ALL POWER ASSIST TO MY BRAKES FAILED WHILE BACKING UP AND NEARLY COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I TOOK THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE $1,000 TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER. WHEN I ASKED WHY THIS WORK WASN'T PERFORMED WHEN THE RECALL MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS NOT REQUIRED. MY WORRY IS THAT OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS WILL BE AT RISK DUE TO INCOMPLETE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY BMW WITH MUCH MORE SERIOUS OUTCOMES. I AM STRUGGLING CURRENTLY WITH BMW TO CONVINCE THEM THAT THIS IS ALL RELATED (AS NOTED IN THE RECALL NOTICE) BUT NOT MAKING ANY PROGRESS. *TR
