BMW ISSUED IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL 13V-564, WHICH INVOLVES THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT, JANUARY 2014. IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL 13V-564 ALONG WITH AN ILLUMINATED AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, WHICH MY VEHICLE IS DISPLAYING, EFFECTIVELY DE-ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG CAUSING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. JANUARY 2014 THE IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL LETTER STATED PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIRS MARCH 2014. MARCH 2014 THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS DUE TO PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE. JUNE 2014 BMW NOTIFIED ME THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE AND TO SCHEDULE REPAIRS WITH THE DEALER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS DUE TO PARTS BEING UNAVAILABLE. AUGUST 2014 I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. OCTOBER 2014 I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. DECEMBER 2014 I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER RELATIONS REQUESTING SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON THE AVAILABILITY OF PARTS. BMW INDICATED PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. BMW HAS NOT REMEDIED THE DEFECT IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE HEATED SEAT TURNED ON AND THEREAFTER BECAME DANGEROUSLY HOT AND BURNED THROUGH THE DRIVER'S COAT. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR HAS FAILED, LEAVING AIRBAG IN PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATED STATE. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG OFF WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON. THE DEALER RESET THE COMPUTER. LIGHT WENT OFF. THE FAILURE RECURRED AGAIN IN A FEW MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN DID NOT MEET THE RECALL FOR REPLACING THE FAILED MAT SENSOR ALTHOUGH OTHER 2006 BMW X5S WERE RECALLED FOR THAT SAME FAILURE. THE WARNING LIGHT IS PRESENTLY ON. I HAVE READ OF MANY EXAMPLES OF THE SAME PROBLEM. THE AGING MAT BECOME BRITTLE AND CRACKS BREAKING THE CIRCUIT. BMW NEEDS TO SEND ME A LETTER AND REPLACE MY PASSENGER SEAT MAT SENSOR FOR FREE BEFORE I HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND THE PASSENGER IS INJURED.
FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT STAYS ON. OBD SCANNER INDICATES AIR BAG MAT SENSOR DEFECT. BMW DECLINED TO FIX PROBLEM SINCE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SAME PROBLEM APPEARED ON JUNE 15, 2011 BUT WAS FIXED AT NO COST BY DEALERSHIP SINCE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AT 447,94 MILES. *TR
PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR FAILS, CAUSING AIR BAG TO BECOME INOPERATIVE AND AIRBAG LIGHT TO APPEAR ON DASH. IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. DEALER WANTS NEARLY 2000 DOLLARS TO FIX, THOUGH THEY SAY IT HAD "ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED IN 2008" WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TWO YEARS OLD; DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THEY HEAR THIS COMPLAINT ALL OF THE TIME. RECALL CAMPAIGN 08V384000 ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE FOR SOME BMW MODELS/SEATS, BUT DOES NOT ADEQUATELY ADDRESS ALL MODELS AND YEARS THAT HAVE THE PROBLEM. FOR THE X5 MODEL, FOR EXAMPLE, THE "COMFORT SEAT" IS COVERED, BUT THE STANDARD SEAT, WHICH HAS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM (NOT RELATED TO THE COMFORT SYSTEM) IS NOT. PLEASE WIDEN THE COVERAGE OF THE CAMPAIGN TO INCLUDE ALL MODELS AND YEARS AFFECTED BY THIS WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,766.

CONTACTED BMW LOCAL DEALER AND DID NOT RECEIVE SATISFACTION FROM SERVICE MANAGER. FRONT PASSENGER SEAT STILL HIGH RISK DUE TO AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INDICATING AIR BAG DEACTIVATED. I HAVE A 2006 BMW X5 WITH THE SPORT SPORTS PACKAGE AND I AM EXPERIENCING THESE SAME PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL 02 - ID # 13V564000 - AIR BAGS RECALL 03 - ID # 13V564000 - AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL M. I HAVE CALLED BMW OF AMERICA AND TRIED TO GET THEM TO HONOR THE RECALL BUT THEY HAVE REFUSED. I WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER REP. [XXX] THAT BMW HAVE DECIDED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER THAT RECALL AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT LOOK AT BEFORE THEY WOULD CONCEDER ANY REPAIRS TO BE COVERED UNDER THESE RECALLS. I TOLD BOTH REPS AND ALSO SPOKE WITH SUPERVISOR [XXX] THAT THIS IS UNCALLED FOR SINCE IT MATCHES THE YEAR, MAKE, MODEL AND PACKAGE THAT IS BEING RECALLED. I FIRST TALKED WITH [XXX] AND ALL HE HAD DONE WAS GIVE ME A RUN AROUND THAT BMW WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BY A BMW SERVICE TECHNICIAN. I KEPT TELLING THEM THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS FOR SOMETHING THAT IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALLS, BUT ONCE AGAIN I WAS TOLD BY [XXX] THAT I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I HAVE SENT MAY EMAILS AND HAD MANY PHONE CALLS WITH BMW AMERICA ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND I AM VERY UNSATISFIED WITH HOW THEY ARE HANDLING THIS ISSUE. I FEEL THEY DO NOT LOOK OUT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS AND DON'T CARE IF THIS RECALL HURTS OR EVEN KILLS SOMEONE. IF THEY TRULY CARED THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN IN THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE DONE THE DIAGNOSIS TO SEE IF IT IS THE PROBLEM AND HAVE IT FIXED BUT AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS ISSUE BMW DOES NOT CARE. THIS IS NOT THE COMPANY THAT I REMEMBER BMW WAS STANDARD FOR EXCELLENCE AND IS TO BE AN EXTREMELY HIGH STANDARD OF HIGH QUALITY CARS BUT WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG BMW LEAVES YOU WITH NOTHING AND WILL NOT HONOR THEIR MISTAKES TO MAKE IT RIGHT. MY X5 4.4 BEGAN TO HAVE A HARDER AND HARDER BRAKE PEDAL. IN A THREE WEEK PERIOD IT WENT FROM A LITTLE HARD AT THE END OF THE STOP TO ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. WHAT IS MORE CONCERNING IS THAT MY MOTHER-IN-LAW ALSO HAS A 2006 X5 4.4 THAT THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED AND SHE HAS HALF THE MILES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WORKMANSHIP OR DESIGN FAULT SINCE IT IS NOT MILEAGE DEPENDENT BUT AGE. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THE BRAKES WILL COMPLETELY FAIL SHORTLY AFTER THE 1ST INDICATION. BMW HAS A HISTORY OF SKATING ON RECALLS, THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS TO 5 SERIES USING THE SAME SET UP AND IT WAS RECALLED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD ALTHOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE MAT SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
ON AUGUST 8TH 2013 WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION IN NORTHERN NY, THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED -' PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WITH VERY MINIMAL BRAKING FUNCTION. THIS IS A HUGE CONCERN IN ANY AREA, BUT WE WERE IN A MOUNTAINOUS REGION OF NY AND THIS COULD HAVE ENDED VERY VERY BAD. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T. I CALLED THE CLOSEST BMW (KEELER) DEALER AND SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. I NOTED THE YEAR AND MODEL AND EXPLAINED THE SYMPTOMS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT IT WAS. HE HAD ME CHECK UNDER THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE FOR A BRAKE LINE LEAK. SURE ENOUGH HE WAS CORRECT; BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM THE COVER UNDER THE DRIVER'S FLOOR. HE MADE NOTE THAT THEY SEE THIS VERY FREQUENTLY IN THEIR SERVICE GROUP. THEY HAD ANOTHER X5 IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND BECAUSE THAT OWNER WAS A "LOCAL", KEELER USED THEIR PARTS FOR OUR VEHICLE. VERY CONCERNING IS THE FACT THAT A MONTH EARLIER, WE HAD A NYS INSPECTION AND THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES WENT UNNOTICED. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME, I SPOKE TO THE BMW OF ROCHESTER SERVICE GUYS ABOUT THIS. TO MY SURPRISE, THEY CONFIRMED THAT THEY TO SEE THIS CORRODED BRAKE LINE PROBLEM ON A REGULAR BASIS. I PAID $2106.57 FOR A PROBLEM THAT YOUR SERVICE TEAMS SEE ON A REGULAR BASIS, YET NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN MENTIONED TO ME AND THE VEHICLE PASSED THE NYS SAFETY INSPECTION A MONTH EARLIER. I WORKED WITH BMW OF ROCHESTER SERVICE AND DISCUSSED MY CONCERNS REGARDING THE BRAKE FAILURE. BMW EXTENDED A GOOD FAITH OFFER OF $2000.00 TOWARDS A NEW VEHICLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THE BMW SERVICE SHOPS SEE FREQUENTLY. IT RENDERED THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED WITH A PROPER SAFETY INSPECTION. PASSENGER AIRBAG IS DE-ACTIVATED. PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. BMW STATES THAT MY PRODUCTION DATE IS NOT INCLUSIVE OF THE RECALL# 13V564000. THE RECALL STARTS MFG DATE 12/1/2005 FORWARD FOR BMW X5 MODELS. BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED MY DATE OF MFG WAS 10/25/2005 AND THEY WILL NOT COVER. I NEED INTERVENTION WITH THIS MATTER. IT IS MORE THAN COINCIDENCE THAT I AM HAVING THE IDENTICAL ISSUE AS CARS MFG LESS THAN 35 DAYS AFTER MY MFG DATE. THANK YOU. *TR

PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY AIRBAG LIGHT SHOWS AIRBAG IS INACTIVATE (WHETHER OR NOT SOMEONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT). THIS LIGHT APPEARS INTERMITTENTLY. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE REPAIR IS $1200. ALTHOUGH MY MODEL SHOULD BE COVERED IN THE 2008 RECALL, NHTSA 08V384000 - ??BMW IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM FIRST REGISTRATION WITHOUT ANY MILEAGE LIMIT TO THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: MY 2006 6-SERIES, 3-SERIES (STANDARD SEAT), MY 2004-2005 Z4, MY 2004-2006 7-SERIES, MY 2006 X5, AND MY 2004-2006 5-SERIES (COMFORT SEAT). UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM, THE OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT IN A VEHICLE THAT EXPERIENCES THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE WILL BE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER, ALTHOUGH MY CAR IS LISTED ABOVE, THE DEALER SAYS THAT MY 2006 X5 WAS MANUFACTURED OUTSIDE THE CURRENT MANUFACTURE DATE FOR THE 2008 RECALL. THIS RECALL NEED TO BE EXPANDED. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM 2006 X5 OWNERS OUTSIDE THE NOVEMBER 2005 MANUFACTURE DATE. *TR
PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY AIRBAG LIGHT NEAR SUNROOF CONTROLS REMAINS UNILLUMINATED (WHICH MEANS AIRBAG IS ACTIVATED) WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS APPEARS TO BE INTERMITENT AS YESTERDAY IT REMAINED ILLUMINATED (AIRBAG OFF) AS IT SHOULD BE WITH NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. ALSO HAD CASE WHERE RED AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON DASH FOR UNKNOWN REASON BUT LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER DRIVING FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. MY X5 WAS MANUFACTURED IN MAY 2006 AND APPEARS TO BE OUTSIDE THE CURRENT MANUFACTURE DATE FOR THE 2008 RE-CALL. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED BASED ON HOW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS ON VEHICLES OUTSIDE THE NOVEMBER 05 MANUFACTURE DATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE DID STOP, BUT HESITATED TO RESPOND. THE FAILURE RECURRED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY OIL THAT WAS PRESENT IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE VACUUM PUMP LEAKED OIL INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER, CAUSING THE BRAKE ASSIST TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED A DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIRBAGS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKE POWER ASSIST FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, BRAKE HOSE, AND BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V367000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN BMW THIS TIME. MY BRAKES SYSTEM SUDDENLY FAILED, CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A POLL IN THE STREET PARKING. FRONT BUMPER WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED. RIGHT AFTER, WE FOUND OUT THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, HAS TO KEEP FULL FORCE ON BRAKE TO KEEP AT FULL STOP. WE CALLED BMW SERVICE THEY SAID TO JUST BRING THE CAR AS THEY RECENTLY RECALLED MY CAR FOR RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO BMW SERVICE, AFTER THEY CHECKED MY VIN # THEY SAID MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY NOT COVERED IN THAT RECALL, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN WORST, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED AS A RESULT TO THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKE ASSIST. CALLED BMW, BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING AT THIS POINT UNTIL A OFFICIAL RECALL IS POSTED FOR 2006 YEAR X5 4.4 MODELS. NOW I HAVE BODY DAMAGE AND A $1,500 BRAKE REPAIR ESTIMATE I HAVE TO DEAL WITH. "NOT GOOD BMW. NOT GOOD." VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO INDEPENDENT SHOP FOR CODE READING TO VERIFY THAT 'AIRBAG LIGHT OFF' ILLUMINATED WAS TRIGGERED FROM SEAT SENSOR. LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED (INDICATING AIRBAG IS OFF) WITH ADULT OCCUPANT ON PASSENGER SEAT,APPROXIMATELY LESS THAN 1,000-MILES AFTER, DRIVER DASH AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED PERMANENTLY ALSO. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A CPO. AIRBAG/SEAT SENSOR CODE BEGAN AFTER CPO WARRANTY EXPIRED. DURING THE PERIOD OF MY OWNERSHIP, VEHICLE WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN ANY COLLISIONS. VEHICLE WAS LAST BROUGHT IN FOR BRAKE AND OIL SERVICE AT BMW DEALERSHIP. SOME RESEARCH SEEM TO INDICATE A RECALL REGARDING VERY SIMILAR SITUATION (NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 08V384000) WAS AVAILABLE FOR CERTAIN MODEL BMW. SUMMARY OF THE CAMPAIGN LETTER DOES NOT INCLUDE 2006 X5, HOWEVER, EXTRA NOTES DOES STATE THAT IT INCLUDES "MY 2006 X5." BOTH BMW DEALERSHIP AND BMW OF NA WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANY RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN. THERE WERE MADE AWARE OF THE LETTER AND WERE FIRM THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND REPAIR/REPLACEMENT COST AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CRANK CASE RELEASE VALVE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I HAVE READ THE RECALL NOTICE FOR SEAT MAT FAILURE, HOWEVER MY VIN IS NOT LISTED. I HAVE READ SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE FROM OTHER BMW OWNERS SAYING THERE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED EITHER. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE TO BE FILED BEFORE THE RECALL IS EXPANDED? IS THE RECALL BY SEAT SENSOR MODEL? SINCE MY 2006 BMW X5 IS NOT LISTED( OTHERS ARE), WAS A DIFFERENT SEAT SENSOR USED IN MINE? MY VEHICLES REAR DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THE LOCK GOES UP AND DOWN, BUT THE DOORS WILL NOT OPEN. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR STOPPED WORKING ON THE 12TH OF DECEMBER 2012 AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING TODAY 18 DECEMBER 2012. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOPPED WORKING THIS MORNING WHEN I DROPPED MY DAUGHTER OFF FOR SCHOOL. SHE WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE BACK SEAT AFTER MULTIPLE UNLOCKING ATTEMPTS OF THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I HAD TO HAVE HER CLIMB INTO THE FRONT SEAT IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. THAT IS TERRIFYING TO THINK THAT SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT IN AN EMERGENCY, FIRE, OR ACCIDENT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND OTHER BMW MODELS. I AM ASSUMING AND CONCERNED THAT MY FRONT DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL DO THE SAME. MYSELF AND FAMILY NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE ALONG WITH ALL THE OTHER CONSUMERS THAT OWN THESE VEHICLES. ITS JUST NOT SAFE. I HAVE HAD OTHER VEHICLES THAT WERE OLDER WITH MORE MILEAGE AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH DOORS NOT OPENING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAZARD. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE FOR WHICH BMW ISSUED THIS RECALL NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA08001 I LEARNED THAT BECAUSE MY 2006 X5 WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER NOVEMBER 30, 2005, BMW IS NOT COVERING UNDER WARRANTY THE VERY SAME DEFECT THAT VEHICLES MANUFACTURED PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 30, 2005 ARE UNDER WARRANTY FOR (EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS WITH NO MILEAGE RESTRICTIONS). THE EXPLANATION IS "THAT IS THE RECALL POLICY. WE MANAGE THIS VIA VIN NUMBERS". *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,250. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR HAS FAILED, LEAVING AIRBAG IN PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATED STATE. THIS DEFECT WAS PREVIOUSLY SUBJECT OF RECALL IN OTHER VEHICLES IN SAME MODEL YEAR, BUT NOT PARTICULAR MONTH OF MANUFACTURE OF MINE ACCORDING TO VIN. HAVE REPORTED TO BMW DEALER AND BMW NA; CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT AT BMW NA INITIALLY INDICATED THEY MIGHT COVER IT BUT THEN REQUEST WAS DENIED BY MANAGEMENT. I HAVE REQUESTED THEY SIMPLY DEACTIVATE THE SENSOR AND LEAVE THE AIRBAG ON, WHICH WOULD SEEM TO BE A LOW-COST REPAIR. THEY HAVE STATED THERE IS NO SAFETY ISSUE IN DOING SO. THE STATED PURPOSE OF THE SENSOR IS TO PREVENT UNNECESSARY COST FOR AIRBAG REPLACEMENT AFTER AN ACCIDENT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A CLEAR DESIGN DEFECT: IF THE SENSOR FAILS, THE AIRBAG SHOULD BE LEFT IN THE ACTIVE CONDITION, NOT A DISABLED CONDITION. THE DEALER IS REQUESTING $1276 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SEAT SENSOR. BMW KNOWS THEY ARE MAKING MONEY OFF THIS REPAIR AND HAS NO INCENTIVE TO FIND A LOW COST REPAIR THAT WOULD SAVE LIVES. SOFTWARE DEACTIVATION OF THE SENSOR WOULD INCREASE SAFETY SINCE SOME WILL BE UNABLE TO AFFORD A REPAIR OF THIS EXPENSE AND DRIVING WITHOUT A PASSENGER SIDE SRS PUTS OCCUPANTS AT SIGNIFICANT RISK. I AM A UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR AND I HAVE NOTIFIED BMW NA OF THIS AND IF BMW CONTINUES TO REFUSE TO PROVIDE A LOW-COST REPAIR FOR THIS CONDITION I WILL BE WILLING TO TESTIFY AT TRIAL ATTESTING TO THE FACT THAT BMW WAS INFORMED OF THIS ISSUE AND ADVISED OF THEIR POSSIBLE LIABILITY IF ANYONE HAS AN ACCIDENT IN A 2006 X5 AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DOES NOT DEPLOY RESULTING IN INCREASED PASSENGER INJURY; CONTACT ME AT [XXX]. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AFTER HAVING OUR BMW SERVICED FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT OUR LOCAL DEALER, THE "CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL" LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALER, AND UPON THEM LOOKING AT IT, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CRANKCASE VENT VALVE (OIL SEPARATOR), NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, AT A COST OF $1,300. WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS LIGHT COME ON NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, AND ALWAYS CALL THE DEALER WHEN IT DOES. EVERY TIME WE CALL, THEY EITHER TELL ME TO TOP THE OIL OFF MYSELF, OR WE BRING IT TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO TOP OFF. NOT ONCE DID SOMEONE MENTION THAT THIS ISSUE COULD BE A PROBLEM, AND THEY CONTINUED TO LET US DRIVE EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE COULD HAVE BEEN DAMAGED IN DOING SO. A VERY QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES, AND BMW'S IN GENERAL, AND I THINK THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND THE PART SHOULD BE COVERED. I NOW HAVE TO GET THIS DONE IMMEDIATELY, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CAR IS BURNING SO MUCH OIL DAILY, AROUND A QUART PER 1,000 MILES. I AM REACHING OUT TO HELP GET A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. BOTH LIGHTS CAME ON EVER SINCE AND 2 ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO CLEAR CODE BY PROFESSIONAL AND SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SENSOR MAT BEING FAULTY. MY VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A SPORT SEATS FROM MANUFACTURER AND ESTIMATED COST WAS FROM $800-$1200 FOR THAT SENSOR. I HAVE RECEIVED A LETTER FOR THIS RECALL SHOWING MY VIN AS AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IN 12/2013, HOWEVER, IT'S NOW 6/2014 AND STILL NO FEEDBACK FROM NHTSA OR BMW NA. *TR

THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR WENT ON AT 44K AND REMAINS ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. CALLED THE BMW SITE WHO INDICATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. CONTACTED NHTSA WEBSITE AND INFORMED THAT RECALL WAS IN PLACE (EA08001 BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, LLC 01/04/2008 12/31/2008 BMW AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATION 08V384000) DEALER STATED THEY WOULD NOT HONOR THIS DUE TO THE MANUFACTURE DATE OF MY VEHICLE WHICH FITS EVERY OTHER CRITERIA (E.G., YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL.) NOT THE BMW I AM USED TO. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. I TOOK IT INTO MY BMW DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE SENSOR MAT IN THE SEAT FAULTED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.THEY ORIGINALLY SAID IT WAS COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. LATER THEY SAID MY VEHICLE WAS MADE TOO LATE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE VOLUNTARY WARRANTY EXTENSION. IF THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT KEEPS OCCURRING IN BMWS AND OBVIOUSLY AFFECTS THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND IS THE SUBJECT OF A NHTSA INVESTIGATION, WHY IS MY VEHICLE NOT COVERED. IT WOULD APPEAR BMW DID NOT FIX ITS PROBLEMS WITH ITS PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM. WHY ISN'T THE NHTSA STILL INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM. *TT
WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK ON A VERY COLD DAY (0 DEGREES) IN CHICAGO, WHITE SMOKE BEGAN EMITTING FROM THE EXHAUST AND THE TRUCK TOTALLY STOPPED RUNNING IN THE MIDDLE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT WOULD NOT RESTART AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CRANCKCASE BREATHER BOX/OIL SEPARATOR STOPPED WORKING CAUSING OIL TO SPEW EVERYWHERE WITHIN MY EXHAUST. THIS ALSO RUINED MY SPARK PLUGS. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED DEFECT IN THE X5, AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL RELATED TO THIS. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR AS SOON AS THE MANUFACTURER OR EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRES AND IT IS RELATED TO COLD WEATHER. *TR
