ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH FAILING PARTS ON A SAV WITH ONLY 67,000 MILES. ISSUES INCLUDE LEAKING VALVE COVER GASKET, LEAKING BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, DRIVE BELTS WORN (A/C AND MAIN), WATER PUMP FAILURE. EXPENSIVE REPAIRS (SOME COMPLETED, SOME YET TO BE COMPLETED). ALSO, IDRIVE DOESN'T WORK. MANY BMW X5 OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES, EVEN WITH MILEAGES AS LOW AS 40,000. BMW SAYS "TOUGH LUCK." BMW NEEDS TO ISSUE RECALLS ON SEVERAL OF THESE COMPONENTS FOR FREE REPLACEMENT BUT HAVE NOT DONE SO. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS?
I REACH THIS DEALER INTERNATIONAL BMW 2400 SOUTH 108TH ST. WEST ALLIS,WI53227 SALES:877-819-6869 SEVERAL TIMES TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT. THEY ALWAYS SAID THAT THE PARTS NEVER GET THERE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW OF TOWSON (700 KENILWORTH DR, TOWSON, MD, (410) 317-2228) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,991.
TAKATA RECALL. AIRBAG FRONT PASSENGER AND RESTRAINT SEAT BELT, DON'T WANT ANYTHING HAPPENING WHEN I'M DRIVING IT MIGHT CAUSE A ACCIDENT.
TAKATA RECALL! MY AIRBAG SEAT KEEP ON RINGING TO PUT SEATBELT ON WHEN NO ONE IS SITTING THERE, AND THE RESTRAINT WARNING ON MY TV SCREEN WON'T GO AWAY. I'M AFRAID MY SEAT WILL EXPLODE ON US WHEN WE ARE ON THE ROAD. THEY NEED TO CHECK IT OUT, DANGEROUS ITS BETTER TO SAVE LIVES, THEN SORRY.

WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN MOTION, A WARNING SENSOR CAME ON STATING THAT MY VEHICLE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING. THEN, MY VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, MAKING IT UNABLE TO DRIVE.
WE HAD A DEFECTIVE IN-TANK FUEL PUMP REPLACE IN SEPTEMBER 2016 BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. WE THEN RECEIVED A RECALL FROM BMW USA IN DECEMBER 2016. WE'VE SINCE HAD BMW SAN DIEGO REVIEW THE INSTALLATION AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE PART INSTALLED WAS NOT A BMW PART SO BMW USA DENIED REIMBURSEMENT UNDER THE TREAD ACT. WE THEN CONFIRMED WITH OUR MECHANIC THAT BMW PARTS WERE USED AND FORWARDED THIS INFO TO BMW BUT THEY STILL REFUSE TO REIMBURSE. WE REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART AND SHOULD BE COMPENSATED . REFERENCE; BMW CORRESPONDENCE [1-8113168403] . I ASKED FOR PHOTOS AND THEIR DENIAL IN WRITING AND THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE EITHER. I SAW THE PART INITIALLY REMOVED AND IT WAS BURNED UP INSIDE THE GAS TANK!!!
WATER PUMP PROBLEM OF THE 2008 BMW X5 ENGINE OVERHEATED WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED WHEN DRIVING ON HIGH WAY WITH 65MPH WITH A REDUCED POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53K.

I CALLED TODAY MONDAY 12/4 LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE RECEPTIONIST AS THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS UNAVAILABLE. WAS TOLD I'D RECEIVE A CALL BACK , I HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK . . DUE TO THEIR FAULTY REPAIR MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE
I DROVE FROM LOS ANGELES, CA TO HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, CA OVER THE HOLIDAYS. THE PROBLEM STARTED TO OCCUR WHEN I WAS WITHIN 100 MILES OF MY DESTINATION TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED. OVER THE WEEKND, MY BRAKES BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS. AS IF I HAVE NO MORE POWER ASSIST. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND SEEN MY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL WAS AFFECTED. TAKATA RECALL I HAVE REPLACE MY KEY FOB TWO TIME IN ONE YEAR EACH TIME IT COST ME $275.00 BY BMW WHY CAN'T BMW REPLACE THE KEY WITH A $2.00 LIKE ALL ITS OTHER MODELS. ONLY THE 2008 MODELS COST THAT MUCH
WE ARE SMELL GASOLINE INSIDE THE CABIN WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AND ALSO WHEN WE STOP WE COULD STILL SMELL GASOLINE. WE TOOK IN TO THE BMW SHOP ON JULY 5, 2017, BUT THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T THE RECALL IN-TANK FUEL PUMP PART YET

A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE DEALER CALLED THE CONTACT BACK TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE THE AIR BAGS PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BY LETTER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CRASH WAS NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. WATER LEAKAGE ON DRIVER SIDE REAR- AS WELL AS ACCUMULATING IN SPARE TIRE WELL SUBMERGING BATTERY IN 3 INCHES OF WATER. HI-FI AMPLIFIER - BLUETOOTH- NAVIGATION- RADIO- SOS DAMAGED FROM THIS. ALL WINDOWS SHUT AND VEHICLE FILLED WITH WATER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATED THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LIGHT HAD MALFUNCTIONED. AFTER REMOVING THE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BULB HOUSING HAD MELTED AND WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL BMW DEALER BMW OF HENDERSON, 261 AUTO MALL DR. HENDERSON, NV. WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT THAT ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
ENGINE SUDDENLY OVERHEATS DUE TO DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP AND SHUTS DOWN QUICKLY. OVER HEAT WARNING CAME ON A FEW SECONDS BEFORE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY DERATED AND WENT TO IDLE. VERY DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY WITH NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. ONLY 37,700 ON VEHICLE. BMW OWNERS REPORTING HIGH FREQUENCY OF PREMATURE WATER PUMP FAILURES. REPAIRS COST $1,499 WITH ADDITIONAL TOWING CHARGES OF $285. THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMPS HAVE POOR QUALITY PLASTIC IMPELLERS. BMW SHOULD RECALL THIS COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. MY FAMILY AND I WERE STRANDED FOR HOURS WAITING ON A TOW DURING UNSAFE CONDITIONS.
COMPUTER SYSTEM DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO GO INTO TRANSMISSION ERROR MODE-VEHICLE ABRUPTLY LOSES POWER AND SPEED WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY (SAW OUR LIVES FLASH BEFORE OUR EYES AS SEMIS BORE DOWN ON US AND ALMOST DROVE OVER US/OTHER VEHICLES TRYING TO AVOID COLLISIONS AND IN TOWN WITH SEVERAL NEAR-COLLISIONS INVOLVING OURS' AND OTHER VEHICLES. VEHICLE HAS HAD SEVERAL RECALLS AND COMPUTER SYSTEM HAS BEEN UPDATED AT OUR EXPENSE WITH PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED AND WE ARE TOLD WE NEED NEW TRANNY. INSTEAD OF ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, DEALERSHIPS MAKE BANK ON REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS THAT SOON FAIL AGAIN DUE TO THE COMPUTER ISSUES.
WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION CODE COMES ON AND VEHICLE INSTANTLY LOSES POWER. ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED ON HIGHWAY SEVERAL TIMES.SPENT 1000 RECENTLY ON TRANSMISSION PARTS. RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THIS IS A SOFT WARE ISSUE AND BMW HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED ALTHOUGH THOUSANDS OF REPORTS HAVE BEEN FILED-SOME BY OWNERS WITH ONLY 1000 MILES ON THEM THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE THAT BMW HAS IGNORED.
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS NOTIFIED OVER A YEAR AGO, SINCE HAVE BROUGHT IN MY CAR TWICE FOR SERVICE. DEALER SAYS THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR ME YET. I AM CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY.

SUBSEQUENTLY, ENGINE WILL NOT START OR CRANK AS IF BATTERY POWER IS LIST. ENGINE CAN BE RESTARTED WITH A JUMPER OR IF THE CAR IS LEFT FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTE TO AN HOUR, THE ENGINE WILL START WITHOUT A JUMPER.

MY 2008 X5 SPORT 4.8I WITH 76,000 MILES IN NOR CA HAS HAD 3 PETRIFYING EPISODES OF ENGINE STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE DRIVING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL AND MYSELF TO WORK AT LOW SPEED -SUB 40MPH IN MIDDLE OF 2016 AND EARLY 2017! THANKS GOD WE WERE SAVED AND DID NOT GET REAR ENDED FROM ONCOMING TRAFFICS BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY PULL THE VEHICLE OVER INTO A SIDE STREET AND STORE PLAZA, BUT THE INCIDENTS WERE FRIGHTFUL AND TRAUMATIZED OUR WELL-BEING! 2 OUT OF 3 INCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN (MADE LOUD ENGINE NOISE AND COULD NOT START WITH ENGINE LIGHT LID UP) AND IT WAS TOWED TO A BMW CERTIFIED SHOP FOR REPAIR. FIRST AND SECOND INCIDENTS WERE THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP AND THE FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR WAS FOR THE THIRD INCIDENT AND BOTH PARTS WERE REPLACED WITH THE REPAIR COST WAS MORE THAN $2000. I HAVE HAD THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP ISSUES REPAIRED BECAUSE SAFETY OF OUR FAMILY AND SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD COMES FIRST. BMW HAS RECENTLY ISSUE THE RECALL ON FAULTY FUEL PUMP LATE 2016 AND THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL LATE SPRING 2017. BMW SHOULD VOLUNTARILY ISSUE REIMBURSEMENT NOTICE FOR ALL OF THE REPAIR COSTS ON ANY RECALLED ISSUES THAT WERE TAKEN PRIOR TO THE RECALLS POSTED TO ILLUSTRATE GOOD FAITH TO ITS CUSTOMERS. IN EARLY MARCH 2017 WE HAVE DECIDED TO BUY A RELIABLE AND SAFER VEHICLE (NOT A BMW) BECAUSE OUR 2008 X5 4.8I IS NOT SAFE AND TOO DISTRESSFUL FOR US TO DRIVE AND ALSO FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY WE HAVE PAID FOR THIS SPORT 4.8I X5 BRAND NEW IN 2008, WE NOR ANYONE ELSE WOULD NOT EXPECT THAT IT HAS HAD MANY FAULTY AND MALFUNCTION ON ITS BASIC SAFETY PARTS AND ALSO ON OTHER PARTS. BMW SHOULD GET ITS ACT TOGETHER AND BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL OF THESE BASIC SAFETY AND RELIABLE PARTS TO LIVE UP TO ITS NAME AND THEME AS THE ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE AND NOT AS A POTENTIAL ULTIMATE KILLING MACHINE!

WHILE DRIVING AND YOU PRESS ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE, IT'S NOT A SMOOTH TRANSITION, U CANT BEAT A HONDA... WHILE DRIVING EVERY NOW AND THEN U HEAR A LOUD SCREECHING SOUND TILL YOU TURN YOUR CAR OFF... IN STATIONARY POSITION WITH THE CAR ON, ITS MAKES LOUD ENGINE RUNNING SOUNDS... WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45MPH WHEN HEARD A ROARING SOUND FOLLOWED BY A LOUD SNAPPING SOUND. RPMS WAS STABLE WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. IT HAPPENED RIGHT AT THE STATE BORDER ON LA PLATA HWY 140. THERE'S NO EMERGENCY LANES ON NEITHER SIDE OF THE HWY. I WAS ABLE BACK UP ON REVERSE FOR 25FT AND PARKED SAFELY AT THE REST STOP ON THE COLORADO SIDE. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP WHO DISCOVERED THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BROKE LOOSE WHEN THE UNIVERSAL JOINT SNAPPED IN HALF, COMING OFF FRONT HUB. THERE'S COLLATERAL DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION CASING, TRANNY COOLING LINES, AND DINGS TO EXHAUST PIPE. O2 SENSOR FAILED AND TRIGGERED ENGINE LIGHT.

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V045000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.
ON SEPTEMBER 2, AROUND MIDNIGHT, AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES OF STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AT THE BORDER, MY 2008 BMW SAV X5 AWD 4DR 3.0I COUGHED, CHOKED, STOPPED AND REFUSED TO BE REVIVED. WE WERE AT THE FRONT OF A LONG LINE OF FOLKS HEADING THROUGH CUSTOMS INTO CANADA. YES, AT THE HEAD OF THE LINE. IT WAS SO EMBARRASSING! AFTER FUSSING FOR ANOTHER 30 MINUTES TRYING TO GET IT INTO NEUTRAL, SEVERAL ABLE BODIED CANADIAN CUSTOMS OFFICERS PUSHED IT INTO THEIR COUNTRY. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CAME ANOTHER 40 MINUTES LATER AND TOOK US TO A BMW SERVICE SHOP IN MONTREAL. SIRS, WHAT'S SO HARD TO SWALLOW ABOUT THIS BREAKDOWN IS THAT WE COMPLETED THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SERVICE ON THE CAR JUST 7 DAYS BEFORE AT NEW COUNTRY BMW IN HARTFORD, CT. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A NEGLIGIBLE OIL LEAK THAT THEY SAID WAS NO PROBLEM, I WAS ASSURED THAT MY CAR WAS FINE. BUT, IT TURNS OUT THAT IT WAS NOT; AND LIKE AN INCREASINGLY LARGE NUMBER OF BMWS, THE FUEL PUMP FAILED. WHAT'S MORE, IT IS CLEAR TO ME NOW THAT, BACK IN 2014, THE CAR WAS FAILING TO START AND WOULD CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AROUND MY TOWN (I WAS TOO AFRAID TO TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY AT THAT TIME). ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICING AND EVENTUALLY IT WAS 'FIXED (THOUGH THE FUEL PUMP WAS NEVER REPLACED UNTIL THIS LAST FAILURE). AND SO, I SUSPECT THAT I HAVE PAID FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND I'M SICK OF IT. I THINK THAT BMW SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR AND THE COST OF TOWING AND THE RENTAL TO LEAVE CA AND RETURN TO PICK UP THE CAR.
