DRIVING IN THE CITY, 20MPH. I FELT A SLIGHT BUT NOTICEABLE VIBRATION. I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, TURNED RIGHT, ACCELERATED TO 10MPH. AT THAT TIME THE FRONT U-JOINT BROKE CAUSING AN YET TO BE DETERMINED AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, LIVES WOULD HAVE BEEN IN DANGER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WELL KNOWN AND WELL REPORTED ISSUE WHICH THE BMW X5. I URGE THE NHTSA TO TAKE THE APPROPRIATE STEPS TO INVESTIGATE THE MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FILE WITH YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND SMOKE EMITTED UNDER THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL DIESEL HEATHER FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V339000 (FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS 80,886 MILES AND JUST HAD OIL CHANGED AT BMW DEALERSHIP, FIELDS BMW WINTER PARK FL. I REQUESTED A CHECK ON THE VEHICLE AS THERE HAS BEEN A GRINDING/VIBRATION NOISE ON TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT AT INTERSECTIONS OR MOVING FROM A PARKED POSITION. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE TRANSFER CASE IS FAILING AND TO REPLACE IT WOULD BE $6,666.40. I AM SHOCKED TO HEAR THIS DIAGNOSIS FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 81,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I AM REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE GEARBOX FAILING WHILE DRIVING AND THIS COULD BE A HIGH SAFETY HAZARD FOR MYSELF AND THE FAMILY. I CERTAINLY THINK THAT BMW GEARBOX SHOULD LAST LONGER, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER SAID I REALLY CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY ANOTHER ~$7000 AND WONDERED IF THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE?

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE AND LOST POWER. THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE SERVICE AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE WITH THE ENGINE FAN. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND PRODUCED DIAGNOSTIC CODE 3792. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE ABOUT WHAT PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM COOLANT PUMP SPEED OUTSIDE THE TOLERANCE RECALL (CODE: 3792) MY CAR WAS OVER HEATING, SO I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE ON THE HIGHWAY 202. AFTER THAT I LET ME CAR COOL DOWN, BUT WHEN I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN, THE ENGINE STILL OVERHEATED.
VERY DISAPPOINTING. MY PAMPERED BMW X5 2011 MILEAGE ONLY 38200. I WENT TO THE DEALER FOR DRIVESHAFT RECALL FIX. DEALER TOLD ME THAT IN MY BMW TRANSFER CASE HAS GONE BAD AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT SOON. COST IS $6000+. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD SELL IT IF I DON'T WANT TO GET THIS FIXED. BUT AFTER THAT RECALL FIX, I HEAR SOME WEIRD SOUND COMING WHENEVER I AM DRIVING. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO? THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
ON 21 OCT 16 AT APPROXIMATELY 3:10 PM, WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 30 IN HAMPSTEAD, MD AND APPROACHING A ROUNDABOUT AT 30 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. LIGHTS WERE OPERABLE, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART OR DISENGAGE OUT OF PARK TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED JUST 30 MINUTES BEFORE, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON AN INTERSTATE 795 TRAVELING AT 60 MPH. THERE WAS NOT COLLISION. AT THE BMW DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED IT WAS THE STARTER. THE STARTER WAS REPLACED BUT THE VEHICLE STILL WOULD NOT START. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE 'ENGINE HAS SEIZED UP' AND THE COST WOULD BE $17,000 TO TAKE OUT THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN TWO MONTHS OUT OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE ARE CONTACTING BMW AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED BECAUSE OF THE PROHIBITED COST OF REPAIRS. FRONT DRIVE SHAFT: I WAS ON THE ROAD WITH MY WIFE AND 1YEAR OLD SON WHEN A LOUD BANG SOUND ORIGINATED FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE LUCKILY WITHOUT CAUSING ANY ACCIDENTS AND LOOKED BENEATH IT TO FIND THE DRIVE SHAFT DANGLING BELOW. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED IN THIS MATTER BUT IT ONLY APPLIED TO EARLIER MODELS BY A FEW MONTHS. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING AT ALL WHEN THE CAR ONLY HAS 80K MILES?
IN-TANK FUEL PUMP. BMW HAS NOT SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT TO RESOLVE ISSUE. RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 16V-746 , THEY CLAIM NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, A FUEL ODOR EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V746000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE FRONT AIRBAG AND I'VE HAD A REQUEST TO FIX IT FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. BMW KEEPS TELLING ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS IN. IT IS FRUSTRATING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND BMW IS NOT PROVIDING THE PARTS TO FIX THIS.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK CANNOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY WHILE DRIVER IS INSIDE THE PARKED CAR. THIS OCCURS FREQUENTLY, BUT NOT 100% OF THE TIME. THE BMW LOCKS UNLOCK MANUALLY BY PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE ONCE AND THEN PULLING A SECOND TIME TO OPEN THE DOOR. WHEN THIS DEFECT OCCURS, I CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE ONLY WAY TO UNLOCK IS TO USE THE POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE I CANNOT UNLOCK AND OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR IF THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAD THE SAME FAILURE 18 MONTHS AGO AND I REPLACED THE LOCK ACTUATOR PERSONALLY. I DID NOT LOG A COMPLAINT BECAUSE I JUDGED IT AS AN EXCEPTION CASE. HOWEVER, TWO FAILURES ON TWO DIFFERENT LOCK ACTUATORS IN THE SAME CAR LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THERE IS AN INTRINSIC MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS DEFECTIVE AND CHIMES CONTINUOUSLY WHEN UNOCCUPIED. THE ONLY WAY TO DISARM THE CHIME IS TO BUCKLE THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WHICH ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAGS. SINCE THIS VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS SEVERAL AIRBAG RECALLS ON IT, THE DEFECTIVE OCCUPANCY SENSOR CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR MYSELF AND OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE RECEIVED TWO NOTICES CONCERNING THIS SITUATION OVER A YEAR PERIOD, WHEN I CONTACTED BMW OF MANHATTAN AFTER THE FIRST NOTICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTACT ME ONCE PARTS ARE RECEIVED. IT'S BEEN WELL OVER A YEAR NOW AND I HAVE RECEIVED YET ANOTHER NOTICE, STILL NO REPLACEMENT OF NEW AIRBAGS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 BMW X5. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND THE ABS AND FOUR WHEEL TRACTION WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, "TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION" DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND HAD TO BE MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH, AND NOTICED OIL ALL OVER THE ROAD. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED A U-SHAPED PIECE STICKING OUT OF THE UNDER CARRIAGE SHIELD. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS ON AN INCLINE AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DISENGAGE THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE AND HAD TO CUT THE CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BMW OF ARLINGTON IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION, FRONT DRIVE SHAFT, AND ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT AND TRANSMISSION WERE GOING TO BE REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL, BUT THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT GOING TO BE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TAKATA RECALL ITS BEEN ALMOST 2 YEARS SINCE I'VE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE TO REPLACE FAULTY AIRBAG COMPONENTS WHICH AFFECTS THE VEHICLE. EACH TIME I BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, THE DEALER SIMPLY SAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO RIGHT NOW BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO RECALL THE AIRBAGS. I AM COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED ESPECIALLY KNOWING THIS COULD CAUSE BIG HARM IN AN EVENT OF A CRASH. I TRY TO NOT DRIVE MY VEHICLE AS MUCH AS I CAN UNTIL THE RECALL IS COMPLETED, HOWEVER LIVING WITH FAMILY MEMBERS IT IS SIMPLY IMPRACTICAL TO NOT USE THE CAR UNTIL THE RECALL HAS BEEN PERFORMED. IT IS ALREADY 2017, AND I RECEIVED THE NOTICE EARLY 2015. *TR
ON SUNDAY 08/16/2016, MY 2011 BMW X5 LOST STEERING POWER, AND I GOT A BUNCH OF ERRORS ON THE DASHBOARD INCLUDING ENGINE NOT CHARGING. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT THE ENGINE BELT IS OFF ITS TRACK, AND IDLE PULLEY HAS BROKEN OFF. THIS IS THE SAME FAILURE FOR WHICH BMW CREATED A RECALL: (RECALL NUMBER -NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID-: 12V5500, RECALL DATE: 11/27/2012, COMPONENT: STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWERS ASSIST SYSTEM). ON MONDAY 08/15/2016, I CALLED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA LLC AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PAY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE ISSUE WAS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW UNDER THE RECALL ABOVE. REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THIS CAR (BMW OF ROCKVILLE, 12/21/2012), BUT FAILURE APPEARS TO CONTINUE TO REPEAT. BMW INSTRUCTED ME TO TOW THE CAR TO THE BMW DEALER AND ONCE AN ESTIMATE FROM THE DEALER WAS GIVEN THEY WILL MAKE A DECISION. THE ESTIMATE WAS AVAILABLE MONDAY, AND WHEN I CALLED THEM BACK TUESDAY MORNING, THEY INFORMED ME THAT A DECISION WILL BE MADE WITHIN 24-48 HOURS. I CALLED EVERY DAY AFTER THE PERIOD FOR THREE DAYS, BUT WAS NEVER TRANSFERRED TO THE CASE MANAGER (SAM), INSTEAD, I WAS ASKED TO SUPPLY MY INFORMATION OVER AND OVER. ON MONDAY 08/22, I CALLED AND REQUESTED TO TALK TO A SUPERVISOR. THE SUPERVISOR SOUNDED IRRITATED BY MY CALL, AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT A DECISION WILL BE MADE WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS. TWO DAYS LATER, SAM CALLED ME AND INFORMED ME THAT HE GOT THE PAPERWORK, AND WILL BE WORKING ON MY CASE. ON TUESDAY 08/30, I CALLED BMW BACK SINCE I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM, I REQUESTED TO TALK TO SAM, BUT THE PHONE ASSISTANT INFORMED ME THAT HE IS NOT AVAILABLE, BUT BASED ON THE NOTES AVAILABLE TO HER, I AM BEING DENIED BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE ON THE CAR (62K MILES). AFTER TWO WEEKS OF STRINGING ME ALONG, BMW DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO CALL ME WITH THE BAD NEWS. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT BMW SHOULD OWN AND PAY FOR
AFTER DRIVING FOR AN EXTENED PERIOD OF TIME, I PULLED OVER TO PLACE A NEW DESTINATION IN MY GPS. I NOTICED AS I WAS POSITIONING MY VEHICLE PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROAD, I FELT A SHUTTERING IN MY TRACTION. IT FELT LIKE A LOCKED DIFFERENTIAL 4X4. I PLACED MY NEW ADDRESS AND PROCEEDED TO TURN RIGHT ONTO THE ROADWAY WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC. I FELT A HUGE HESITATION IN MY ACCELERATION NEARLY CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO BE BROAD SIDED (T-BONED). AT THAT POINT, I HAD TO FLOOR THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED ME TO SHOOT ACROSS THE ROAD INTO ON-COMING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, THE VEHICLES WERE FAR ENOUGH TO AVOID A MAJOR ACCIDENT. MY WHOLE FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO BMW TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. THEY FOUND A FAULTY TRANSFER CASE AS THEY WERE REPLACING MY FRONT DRIVE SHAFT UNDER A RECALL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. HABBERSTAD BMW OF BAY SHORE, NEW YORK WAS MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
AS I WAS DRIVING A CHECK BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, I DROVE FOR APPROX 2 MORE MINS AS I TRIED TO PARK AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON. THEN THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE AND I COULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. I BLOCKED CITY STREET TRAFFIC FOR OVER 2 HRS BEFORE A TOW TRUCK COULD GET ME. AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION I WAS DRIVING 15-20 MPH. THANKFULLY, I WAS NOT ON A FREEWAY OR THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY BMW THAT THE DRIVE BELT FELL APART, (WHILE I WAS DRIVING) IT WENT INTO THE ENGINE AND DESTROYED THE TIMING CHAIN AND CAM SYSTEM. THE ENGINE IS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT THE DRIVE BELT WOULD DESTROY THE ENGINE IN A MATTER OF 2 MINS AND/OR IT IS DEFECTIVE DRIVE BELT. THE CAR HAS APPROX 42K MILES. BMW OFFERED FOR ME TO PAY $2800 FOR THEM TO TAKE THE ENGINE APART AND INVESTIGATE THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION. THIS CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS SINCE I PURCHASED IT. ATTACHED ARE MY SERVICE RECORDS.
TAKATA RECALL.......NO REMEDY YET, I HAVE BEEN WAITING NOW CLOSE TO 2 YEARS. AFTER SPEAKING WITH 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS IN MY AREA, I'M TOLD THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN EITHER RECALL WILL BE FIXED BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO PARTS.....GAS SMELL IN VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING , FUEL PUMP RECALL, HOWEVER, NO TIMETABLE FOR FIXING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE BELT BOLT. THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER SIX MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO A DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT A RECALL REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFOMED AND COULD NOT BE REPEATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000.

WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2011 BMW X5 ON INTERSTATE 405 IN BELLEVUE WASHINGTON, GOING NORTH BOUND WITH NORMAL THURSDAY AFTERNOON TRAFFIC WHEN WE FELT A VIBRATION COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. WE WERE FORTUNATE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER QUICKLY, AND WE HEARD A LOUD THUD. THIS WAS FOUND TO BE THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BREAKING OFF AT THE FORWARD UNIVERSAL JOINT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND OUR FAMILY. WE WERE LUCKY TO DRIVE ALONG THE SHOULDER HAVING THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT PROPEL THE CAR FORWARD SLOWLY TO THE EXIT, AND INTO A SERVICE STATION. THE DESTINATION WE HAD WAS OVER 100 MILES AWAY, SO WE WERE FORTUNATE THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE TWO LANE STEVEN'S PASS HIGHWAY 2. PLEASE SEE THAT BMW MAKES THIS A RECALL ON THE BMW X5 MODELS MANUFACTURED DURING THE PERIOD OF 2011-2012. THE MANUFACTURER CURRENTLY HAS THIS ITEM AS A "WARRANTY" ONLY- SI B26 01 14. ALL DAMAGE COST WAS COVERED, WHICH INCLUDED REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO CONTACT OR RESULTING EFFECTS. BMW HAS STATED THE PART HAS A WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000MI. THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS INSPECTED ONLY 18,000 MILES PRIOR AND WAS NOT REPLACED BY BMW SERVICE. I DO NOT FEEL BMW HAS TAKEN ENOUGH CONSIDERATION TO THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS PLACED IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHEN THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT IS AT RISK OF FAILURE, DESPITE A REASONABLE INSPECTION INTERVAL OF THE PART. THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT INTERVAL FOR INSPECTING THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT. PLEASE REQUIRE THAT BMW CHANGE THE X5 FRONT DRIVE SHAFT WARRANTY TO A RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. PREVIOUS VANOS RECALL CAMPAIN / FIX HAS NOT WORKED AND HAS CAUSED CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. AFTER ONE YEAR FROM RECALL WORK THE TURBO FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. UPON REPLACING TURBO DEALER NOTICED METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL. LESS THAN ONE YEAR LATER AND MULTIPLE ENGINE ISSUES THERE IS LOUD ENGINE KNOCKING. DEALER CLAIMS AGAIN THERE IS METAL SHAVINGS IN THEN OIL AND THE ENGINE AND TURBO NEED TO BE REPLACED. BMW NA IS REFUSING TO COVER WORK EVEN THOUGH THE VANOS BOLT ISSUE IS A WELL KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED PROBLEM. THESE VANOS BOLTS SHEAR AND DROP INTO THE TIMING CHAIN CAUSING METAL SHAVING CONTAMINATION TO ENGINE OIL. ENGINE WILL EVENTUALITY LOOSE POWER AND SHUT DOWN AS METAL WORKS ITS WAY THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE RESULTING IN COMPLETE FAILURE AND NECSITATING REPLACEMENT. BMW NA KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.

ALL EFFORTS TO LEARN STATUS OF PARTS AVAILABILITY HAVE GONE UNRESPONDEDED TO. I BOUGHT THIS CAR AS A RESULT OF THE REPRESENTATIONS WHICH WERE MADE TO ME BY BMW AND THEIR AGENTS REGARDING THE CAR'S SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. KNOWING THAT THERE IS NOT A DATE IN SIGHT TO PERFORM THE REPAIRS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THIS UNREASONABLY DANGEROUS CONDITION, I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO TRADE MY VEHICLE IN AND PURCHASE A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. TWO DEALERS HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THEY CANNOT ACCEPT THE TRADE-IN BECAUSE OF THE RECALLS. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. IT IS NOW THE MIDDLE OF JUNE 2017 AND THE BMW DEALERSHIP STILL CLAIMS NO PARTS ON HAND AND NO IDEA WHEN THEY WILL BE RECEIVING THEM. THIS RECALL IS TAKING WAY TOO LONG TO COMPLETE.
