MY WIFE STARTED THE CAR (STATIONARY IN HOME DRIVEWAY) AND A CONTINUOUS BUZZING SOUND (ALARM?) FROM THE REAR HATCHBACK DOOR STARTED. REAR HATCHBACK DOOR WOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY OPEN OR CLOSE. WE HAD TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR. UPON INVESTIGATION, WE FOUND SEVERAL INCHES OF WATER IN THE REAR PASSENGER COMPARTMENT BELOW THE CAR FUSE PANEL. ELECTRIC COMPONENTS AND INSULATION WERE WET/SUBMERGED IN WATER. SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DEALER SAID THE SUNROOF DRAINS WERE CLOGGED AND WOULD NEED TO REPLACE COMPONENTS AT MY EXPENSE. CAR IS SERVICE AND MAINTAINED BY DEALER AND CURRENTLY UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SERVICE PLAN. CAR DEALER SAID IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. NOTHING IS THE CAR MANUAL DISCUSSES THE NEED TO INSPECT OR CLEAN SUNROOF DRAINS. SHOULDN'T THIS ELECTRIC COMPARTMENT AND RELATED COMPONENTS SHOULD BE SEALED FROM WATER RELATED ISSUES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE EXITING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY, THE FRONT WHEELS CEASED AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PULLED OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUDDER WITH AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO DRIVE SMOOTHLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BMW OF ARLINGTON (1105 E. LAMAR BLVD, ARLINGTON, TX 76011, 817-461-9222 TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS THE DRIVESHAFT AND U-JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.*DT*JB
The contact owns a 2015 BMW X5. The contact received recall notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V907000 (Fuel System, Diesel). However, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that while driving speeds, the vehicle emitted abnormal knocking sounds intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

GOOD MORNING. MY NAME IS [XXX]. I AM THE NEW PURCHASER OF A 2015 BMW 35I X5. I RECENTLY GOT THE SUV AT BOCH TOYOTA IN ATTLEBORO MA ON FEB 8 2020. THE SALESMEN STATED HE COULDN'T REALLY TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THE SUVS FEATURES, BECAUSE HE ONLY KNOWS ABOUT TOYOTAS. THE SUV I WAS INTERESTED IN, JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE THE BMW X5 THAT WAS THERE. I LOOKED OVER EVERYTHING AS FAR AS THE LITTLE KNOWLEDGE I HAVE ABOUT THE FUNCTIONING FEATURES OF THE SUV AND CAME ACROSS AN ISSUE WITH THE BACK UP CAMERA IMAGE NOT APPEARING WHEN U SHIFT THE CAR INTO REVERSE. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE NEW WAY THE IMAGES APPEARS, WITH JUST THE CAR POPS UP BUT THE IMAGES OF THE ACTUAL SURROUNDINGS BEHIND SHOWS JUST A BLACK SCREEN. I ASKED TOYOTA IF THEY CAN HELP ME FIND FIX THIS PROBLEM, AS I JUST GOT THE TRUCK AND WITHOUT KNOWING THE REVERSE CAMERA JUST SO HAPPEN NOT TO WORK, I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. THIS OF COURSES WAS AFTER I SIGNED ALL MY PAPER WORK FOR PURCHASE OF THE SUV. I ONLY HAVE A 60 DAY LEMON LAW WARRANTY LEFT NARROWING MY CHANCES TO GETTING THIS FIXED WITHOUT PAYING OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. I WAS VERY POLITE TO THEM AND THEY STARTED TO ATTACK ME. THEY SAID THAT I CAN USE MY BODY TO TURN AROUND AND LOOK WHILE REVERSING AND THAT U DO NOT FAIL A SAFETY INSPECTION FOR THE BACKUP CAMERA. WELL THAT IS BESIDE THE POINT. YOU BUY A TRUCK THAT IS REALLY NOT THAT MUCH OLD, YOU WOULD THINK THE BACKUP CAMERA SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND IT COMES WITH THE SUV FOR A REASON. I FEEL LIKE I'M THE ONLY DUMMY THAT PICKED ONE NOT REALIZING IT NEVER WORKED. SINCE THEY WONT EVEN BUDGE AT TRYING TO HELP FIX THIS ISSUE, I HAVE BEEN CALLING PLACES AND GOOGLING AROUND MY OPTIONS BEFORE THE NEXT 30 DAYS IS OVER, THEN I WILL BE STUCK WITH A BLACK BACK UP CAMERA IMAGE. I HAVE SEEN THE RECALLS FOR EVEN THE NEW BMW TRUCKS WITH THE SAME ISSUE THE BACKUP CAMERA IMAGE STAYS STUCK. MY VEHICLE HAS A FAULTY INJECTOR, SHORTLY AFTER GOT ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION TO FIX THE EXHAUST GAS NOX SENSOR, THIS ALL HAPPENED WITHIN THE RECALL I RECEIVED FOR ENGINE, ENGINE COOLING : EXHAUST SYSTEM: EMISSION CONTROL: GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE ( EGR VALVE ) DID THIS TRIGGER NEW PROBLEMS FOR MY CAR? IT SEEMS LIKE THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS FAILING FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY 4YRS OLD.
THE VEHICLE STARTED TO COLLECT WATER WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE IN THE CAR. IT WAS ONLY UNTIL A UNNOTICEABLE NOISE CAME FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. I INSPECTED IT AND THE REAR AREA WAS SOAKED WITH WATER. SO BMW THINKS IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO STORE ALOT OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT IN THE REAR WERE THE WATER WAS. THEY FIRST CLAIMED THAT IT WAS POSSIBLY CLOGGED DRAINS AND THAT IF THEY WERE CLOGGED, THAT NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS "AN OUTSIDE FORCE". AFTER THE INSPECTION, THEY TELL ME THAT A LEAK WAS DISCOVERED AND THAT IT WAS FIXED. BUT NOTHING WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE WATER GOT INTO THE CAR. THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OLDER MODELS AND DUE TO IT BEING A BAD DESIGN OF THE CAR, REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT WAS THEIR PROBLEM. I READ THAT THERE WAS A SETTLEMENT BACK IN 2010 AREA AND THAT THEY WERE FOUND LIABLE. THE CAR HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE THEN AND THEY ARE STILL USING THE FLAWED CAR DESIGN IN THE X5. I WAS TOLD THAT TO AVOID FURTHER LEAKS, THAT I SHOULD NOT PARK IT ANYWHERE NEAR TREES OR BUSHES AND PREFERABLY INSIDE. A CAR IN THE 21ST CENTURY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE KEPT INSIDE TO PREVENT LEAKS FROM OCCURRING. A LOT OF PEOPLE DONT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO KEEP THEIR CAR IN A GARAGE 24/7. SOME PEOPLE HAVE TO USE THEIR CARS ON A DAILY BASIS.
TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MILES AN HOUR THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODED, SHOWERING US WITH GLASS. WE WHERE ON CLEAR ROAD WITH NO TRAFFIC AROUND US AND A TEMPERATURE OF 35 DEGREES. THE BMW IS NOW BEING REPAIRED AT THE LINCOLN DEALERSHIP.
I RANDOMLY BEGAN SMELLING FUMES IN VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. QUESTIONED MY DA AT CLASSIC BMW OF PLANO. HE SAID NOT AIR OR FUEL FILTER, ALL IS OKAY. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED AT RED LIGHT IN THE CITY OF ROWLETT. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED & INTO A LOT, WOULD NOT CRANK, HAD IT TOWED, DIAGNOSED AS FUEL INJECTORS. MY HUSBAND ADVISED THERE WAS A RECALL, I QUESTIONED BMW USA, SAID ONLY 2011-2014. I REQUESTED ESCALATION TO CONFIRM NO ISSUES WITH 2015, WAS TOLD NOTHING THEY COULD DUE UNLESS REPORTED BY 'MASTER' TECHNICIAN. I WENT FORWARD WITH $1529 REPAIR OF 1 INJECTOR ALTHOUGH RESEARCH INDICATED ALL 6 SHOULD BE REPLACED IF 1 IS BAD. SA INSISTED NOT NECESSARY. BEGAN SMELLING FUMES AGAIN JAN 2020, EXPECTED ANOTHER FI BAD, DIAGNOSED AS CATALYTIC CONVERTER, RESEARCH INDICATES POSSIBLY CAUSED BY BAD FUEL INJECTORS. WANT TO DOCUMENT BECAUSE EXPECTING OTHERS TO HAVE SAME ISSUES AT 85K+. MY MFG WARRANTY ENDED DEC 2020, CAR IS REGULARLY MAINTAINED BY DEALERSHIP YET THEY SAY NO WAY TO PREVENT. I BELIEVE ISSUES ARE RELATED TO THE START/STOP
I WAS DRIVING MY BMW X5 ON I-195 WEST BOUND IN FALL RIVER MA. ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 2019, DRIVING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT IN THAT SECTION OF HIGHWAY. THE ROADWAY WAS LIGHTLY TRAVELED, MID-MORNING. THERE WERE NO OVERPASSES OR TUNNELS IN THIS SECTION OF ROADWAY. I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD "BOOMING" NOISE. THE LARGE, PANORAMIC, MAIN SECTION OF MOONROOF EXPLODED, RIPPING AWAY A SIGNIFICANT SECTION OF GLASS, BLOWING OUT INTO THE AIR AND SOME IMPLODED INTO MAINLY THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT AND BACK SEATS OF THE SUV. I WAS THE SOLE PASSENGER AND WAS NOT INJURED. AT NO TIME WAS THERE A LOSS OF CONTROL. I PULL OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE TO REVIEW THE DAMAGE TO THE MOONROOF AND REST OF THE CAR. IT APPEARED THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CONTAINED TO THE CENTER SECTION OF THE MOONROOF. TO PREVENT ADDITIONAL SHARDS OF GLASS FROM FALLING INTO THE VEHICLE, I CLOSED THE INTERNAL SHADE OF THE MOONROOF, WHICH HAS BEEN OPEN WHEN THE GLASS BROKE APART. I DID NOT DETECT ANY EXTERNAL OBJECT HITTING THE VEHICLE AND CAN ONLY PRESUME THAT THE BREAKAGE WAS TOTALLY SPONTANEOUS. ALSO, WHILE THERE IS A BMW ROOF RACK ON THE CAR, I WAS NOT CARRY ANY SPORTS EQUIPMENT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THERE ARE TWO SADDLES ON THE RACK FOR CARRYING A KAYAK. I DID NOT CONTACT ANY EMERGENCY OR POLICE. I HAVE NOT SEEN A NEED TO FILE AN ACCIDENT REPORT WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES. I CONTINUED ONWARD TO AN APPOINTMENT AT A NEARBY LOCATION OUTSIDE OF FALL RIVER AND THEN RETURNED HOME ABOUT AN HOUR LATER. MY REASSESSMENT OF THE DAMAGE WHEN I GOT HOME WAS THE SAME AS THE INITIAL INCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND AM AWAITING A REVIEW BY AN ADJUSTER. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL BMW DEALER TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION. FOR NOW, BMW HAS INDICATED THAT THE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED. THERE ARE TWO PHOTOS SHOWING A KAYAK. IT IS NOT ON THE CAR, BUT ATTACHED TO A NEARBY WALL IN THE GARAGE OF MY CONDO.
THREE WARNING MESSAGES APPEAR (I HVE TO CLICK "OK" TO REMOVE THEM) EACH TIME I START THE CAR. THE MESSAGE IS ABOUT THE AIRBAG, THE BELT TENSIONER, AND THE BELT FORCE LIMITER. THIS FOR THE BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE. I CAN STILL DRIVE THE CAR, BUT NOTICE THROUGH EXPEIMENTATION,THAT SOMETIMES WHEN I GIVE A RAPID TUG ON THE SHOULDER BELT IT STOPS AFTER A FEW INCHES (AS IT SHOULD) AND SOMETIMES IT GOES FORWARD A COUPLE OF FEET WITHOUT ANY REISTANCE. I HAVE NOT DONE ANY OTHER EXPERIMENTATION. THIS IS TRUE FOR THE VEHICLE BEING STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. SINCE THE DEALER WANTS $185 JUST TO LOOK (I AM A FEW MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY), I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO KNOW IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THEIR IS THE REALISTIC POSSIBLITY OF A RECALL. THIS WOULD SAVE ME ANALYSIS AND SUBSEQUENT REPAIR EXPENSES.
My husband was driving 20-25 mph and heard a loud "boom" - then his engine compartment began smoking. We had the vehicle towed to the BMW dealership. A rod was thrown through the engine compartment and the engine needed to be replaced. We are the original owners of the vehicle and service it regularly. There were no leaks, noises, lights, nor any other indications of trouble prior to the engine blowing up.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WILL DOORS LOCKED, THE FRONT LEFT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR OPENS BY ITSELF. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST WEEK. THIS COULD BE LIFE THREATENING IF IT HAPPENED TO THE BACK SEAT DOORS AND A CHILD WAS NOT BUCKLED IN AND LEANING ON THE DOOR.
DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY WITH MY YOUNG DAUGHTER IN TE SUV ITS COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF CAN BARELY STEER CAR OFF THE BUST HIGHWAY TO SHOULDER SINCE EVERYTHING IS BASICALLY SHUT DOWN. HAVE IT TOWED TO BMW DEALER IT IS UNDER BUMPER TO BUMPER COME TP FIND OUT ITS A CATASTROPHIC DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE WHERE PUMP EXPLODES AND SEND METAL PIECES THROUGH THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM IT IS A 10-15K REPAIR DEPENDING WHAT PART OF COUNTRY YOU ARE IN. THEY ALSO TELL ME THAT THIS HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE ONE YEAR BEFORE SAME CATASTROPHIC FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE. THERE IS NO FIX AND AFTER READING THIS HAS HAPPENED TO COUNTLESS PEOPLE WITH BMW DIESEL VEHICLES! I FIND HARD TO BELIEVE BMW IS NOT ACTIVELY FINDING A FIX FOR THIS BUT BLAMING THE USA DIESEL FUEL. THEN DONT SELL YOUR DIESEL VEHICLES HERE AND PREACH HOW MUCH BETTER THEY ARE. I COULD HAVE BOUGHT NEW GAS X5 FOR SAME PRICE I JUTS PAID 4 MONTH AGO FOR CPO WITH 16K MILES.
THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED ON OCTOBER 25TH AND A REMEDY IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL AND THE DEALER SAYS THAT THERE IS NO RECALL.
HAVE A 2015 BMW X5. PURCHASED BRAND NEW AND PICKED IT FROM FACTORY. THE SUSPENSION HAD BEEN MAKING A NOISE AND IT'S FOUND THAT THE CONTROL ARMS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, EVEN AFTER REPLACING AND A FEW THOUSAND MILES, THE SAME ISSUE RECURS IN THE NEW CONTROL ARMS IN THE FROM SUSPENSION. THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE CONTROL ARMS THAT BMW IS PROVIDING/SUPPLYING, ESPECIALLY WHEN DIAGNOSING COSTS $145, PART AND INSTALLATION COST $800 EACH TIME FROM THE DEALER.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE I-15 SOUTH NEAR CAMINO DEL NORTE, MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE CAME FROM THE INSIDE, BACK, DRIVERS SIDE FROM THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS! AS I ENTERED THE 15 A FEW MILES BEFORE, I NOTICED ALL OF THE PRESET STATIONS WEREN'T WORKING AND THEN THE CAR GAVE AN AIR BAG WARNING. AFTER THE AIRBAG WARNING, THERE WAS A PARKING BRAKE WARNING. THAT IS WHEN I PULLED OVER, GRABBED MY PURSE, AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED 9-1-1.THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT THE FIRE OUT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON 12/14/18 AT 11PM ON A DARK ROAD WITH MY YOUNG KIDS IN THE BACKSEAT AND WIFE AS PASSENGER, WE WERE IN MOTION AT 35 MPH WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE DASH INDICATED A DRIVETRAIN MALFUNCTION AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THIS CAR HAS A TRANSMISSION LOCK TO PREVENT TWO-WHEEL TOWING THAT MAKES IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL. WE ARE LEFT SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A DARK ROAD AROUND A BLIND CURVE AND NO WAY TO MOVE THE CAR, AND A FLAT-BED TOW TRUCK WOULD NOT ARRIVE FOR HOURS. BMW HAS DIAGNOSED A HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE THAT SENT METAL FRAGMENTS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM INCLUDING INJECTORS MUST BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $14,000. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS SAME CAR HAD THE SAME REPAIR SIX MONTHS EARLIER BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THIS CAR HAS SUFFERED TWO CATASTROPHIC FUEL SYSTEM FAILURES RESULTING IN DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS BEING STRANDED IN VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS THIS YEAR ALONE. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEED, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH SUBSTANTIAL INJURIES OR EVEN DEATH AS A RESULT. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE X5 DIESEL HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WITH MANY OWNERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY REPORTING SIMILAR PROBLEMS, SOME OF WHOM STATE FEELING LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY. IT IS HIGHLY POSSIBLE THAT THERE ARE CASES OF THIS SAME VEHICLE CAUSING TRAGIC ACCIDENTS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TIED BACK TO THE FUEL PUMP DUE TO EXCESSIVE VEHICLE DAMAGE OR PERHAPS DRIVER DEATH. THE DEALER DID NOT MENTION IF THE PART WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
AS THE VEHICLE WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP USING THE BRAKES. THE CAR WENT OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. THE MALFUNCTION WAS REPORTED TO BMW AND WE HAVE INSISTED (ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS) A REPORT UPON THEIR INSPECTION OF THE CAR - HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING TO DATE. INSTEAD THEY OFFERED A NOMINAL SUM TO RELEASE THEM FROM ANY LIABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE INCIDENT. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION.

I EMAILED BOTH THE GM AND SERVICE MANAGER (RON [XXX] & STEVE [XXX]) 3JAN19, AT BMW SILVER SPRING, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW, AND HAVE IT SERVICED ANNUALLY, EXPRESSING MY WORRY AND URGENTLY INQUIRING WHEN I COULD GET THE REMEDY REPAIR IN PLACE. I SPENT CLOSE TO $75K NEW AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE NERVOUS DRIVING IT AND IT SEEMS TO ME THAT 4 MONTHS IS TOO LONG FOR A REMEDY. The contact then stated that the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the engine control module was defective. The contact linked the defective engine to the recall. Once the parts for the recall remedy became available, it was determined that the repair was defective and a second recall was issued under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V907000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer had been notified of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. VEHICLE CONTINUES TO THROW ITSELF INTO PARK WHILE DRIVING AND INTERNIENTKY SHUTS OFF AFTER TWO WEEKS OF PURCHASING VEHICLE PROBLEMS DEVELOPED
I HAVE A 2015 X5 DIESEL. THE CAR RECENTLY HAD CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM AND HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WHICH WOULD HAVE COST ME $12000 OR MORE. WHILE I'M HAPPY IT'S COVERED UNDER WARRANTY IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND MANY HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW HOW METAL SHAVINGS END UP IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. I'M WORRIED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN AND IF IT'S OUTSIDE WARRANTY THEN BMW WILL NOT REPLACE IT. BMW NEED TO EXTEND WARRANTY ON THIS COMPONENT. ALSO METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL INJECTORS CAN CAUSE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO CAR AND IS UNSAFE. SOME HAVE COMPLAINED THAT SMOKE WAS EMANATING FROM THE CAR WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

2010-2013 N63 V8 ENGINES HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH VALVE SEALS, CCV HOSES, OIL LEAKS AND PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE LEADING TO LAWSUITS AND RECALLS. BMW SAYS THEY IMPROVED THE PROBLEM WITH 2013+ N63TU ENGINES, BUT AT 50,000 MILES , MINE ALSO HAD FAILING CCV HOSES AND OIL PAN LEAKS, AND POTENTIAL EXPENSIVE VALVE GUIDE SEAL FAILURE
STEERING COLUMN UP/DOWN IN/OUT ELECTRONIC FAILURE. STEERING WHEEL WILL STOP ADJUSTING AND WILL STAY IN LAST POSITION WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO MOVE - WITHOUT HAVING THE STEERING COMPONENT REPLACED. IN THE BMW FORUM DRIVERS EVEN REPORT HAVING TO GET THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES AS THE SAME PARTS FAIL.

IN JANUARY 2015, I BOUGHT A BMW X5 35D TWUN TURBO (N57T ENGINE) OE EQUIPPED WITH A BOSCH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP ("HPFP") PART #0445010667. TWO WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING AT 75 MPH IN THE 4TH LANE OF A 6 LANE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR JERKED AND A "DRIVE TRAIN MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE CAME ON THE SCREEN. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER THINKING THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY - THE CAR IS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD! I'M TOLD THAT THERE WAS A "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE" OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT I DID NOT CAUSE, HAD NO WARNING OF AND COULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED. THAT FAILURE CAUSED METAL SHAVINGS TO BREAK OFF, DAMAGE THE FUEL INJECTORS AND SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT THE COST OF $15,000! I WAS THEN TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE (I DRIVE MY SONS TO LOTS OF BASEBALL TOURNAMENTS SO I AM OVER 50K MILES AFTER THIS SUMMER). I ASKED BMW NA TO STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLE AND REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE NO 2.5 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY A BMW, SHOULD HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO IT. INDEED, A PUMP FAILURE, NO MATTER HOW CATASTROPHIC, SHOULD NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. THERE ARE LAWSUITS OUT THERE OVER THESE HPFPS AND BMW HAS RECALLED OVER 150,000 VEHICLES AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTIES ON MANY OF THE HPFPS TO 120K, BUT APPARENTLY NOT MINE, EVEN THOUGH IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME TYPE OF FAILURE, IS MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY (BOSCH) AND OUT OF THE SAME MATERIAL (DIFFERENT PART NUMBER). BMW HAS OFFERED TO FIX IT AT WARRANTY COST AND CONTRIBUTE 50%, BUT THAT IS STILL OVER $6,000 OR ROUGHLY 10% OF THE ORIGINAL COST OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS AS IT IS DANGEROUS AND CONSUMERS NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THIS IS STILL HAPPENING.

I RECENTLY RECEIVED A TAKATA AUTO AIRBAG NOTICE I CONTACTED MY LOCAL BMW DEALER. TAKATA RECALL INQUIRY
I PARKED MY 2015 BMW X5 AT WORK AT 8:30 AM. WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR AT 5:00 PM ALL THE LIGHTS WERE RED AND YELLOW ON THE DASHBOARD. I TRIED TO SEE IF THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT JEOPARDIZING MY LIFE. LUCKILY, NOBODY ELSE WAS DRIVING IN THE PARKING LOT AT THE SAME TIME AS I DID NOT HAVE POWER IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. NEXT DAY, MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAVE RODENT ISSUES AND THE RODENTS CHEWED THE WIRING INSIDE THE HARNESS. PURCHASED AS A NEW CAR (BMW X5) AND 6-MONTHS LATER THE UNDERBODY SPLASH SHIELD FELL OFF. WHEN I WENT FOR OIL SERVICE THE DEALER STATED THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED ($392). THE CAR IS USED FOR VERY LIGHT USE SO I BELIEVE THIS IS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE. IN THIS CASE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT.
TAIL LIGHTS DO NOT LIGHT WHILE AUTO IS IN DRIVE ON CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY AND VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THIS MAKES THE CAR DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT FROM THE REAR. HEADLIGHTS, BACKUP LIGHTS, AND BREAK LIGHTS WORK CORRECTLY. THERE IS NO COMPUTER NOTIFICATION OR OTHER INDICATOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO INDICATE THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS HAVE FAILED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2015 X5 (BOUGHT IT NEW IN MARCH AND THE CAR ONLY HAS 2599 MILES RIGHT WHEN THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENED ON AUG 8TH 2015) TO A LOCAL TRADER JOE'S AFTER GETTING OFF FROM HIGHWAY 101 WHEN SUDDENLY EVERYTHING ON THE CAR FAILED. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEFT TURN AND ALMOST RAN INTO THE CAR NEXT TO ME WHICH ALSO WAS TURNING LEFT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SO STIFF THAT I CAN HARDLY TURN IT. AT THE SAME TIME, THE AIRBAG MALFUNCTION LIGHT IS ON AND THE SAFETY BELT RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED. THE SAFETY BELT BECAME SO LOOSE THAT IT DIDN'T EVEN HOLD/RESTRAIN ME DURING THE TURN. THE SPEED METER ALSO FAILED AND IT SHOWED 0 AND EVEN THOUGH WHEN I WAS DRIVING. OTHER FAILURES INCLUDE HEADLIGHT AND TURNING LIGHT. THE RIGHT TURNING WOULD ALWAYS TURN ITSELF ON NO MATTER WHAT. I WAS ABLE TO PARK MY CAR IN A SAFE LOCATION BUT THIS REALLY SCARED THE SH*T OUT OF ME. WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE AND THE STOP ENGINE BUTTON, THE CAR DIDN'T EVEN SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. OTHER FAILURES INCLUDE TPM MALFUNCTION, PARKING BRAKE REDUCED, PARKING ASSISTANT MALFUNCTION AND HEADLAMP VERTICAL AIM CONTROL MALFUNCTION. IT'S BEEN AN HOUR SINCE I CALLED FOR A TOWING CAR AND I'M WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR IT WHILE MY CAR HAS ITS ENGINE ON THE WHOLE TIME. I OWN A 2011 X3 AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH IT. WE HAVE A NEW BMW X5 SUV AND HE HIT A LEXUS SUV- BOTH SUBSTANTIAL VEHICLES. BOTH CARS WERE NOT DRIVABLE FOLLOWING THE ACCIDENT. THERE IS MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE- POSSIBLE THE CAR IS TOTALED. I'M NOT SURE YET. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IMPACT FRACTURED HIS STERNUM. HE DEVELOPED PNEUMONIA 2 DAYS LATER BECAUSE OF THE PAIN IN BREATHING- THE ACCIDENT WAS WED. NIGHT BUT THE FRACTURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. I TOOK HIM BACK TO THE ER FRI AFTERNOON, WHEN THE FRACTURE AND SUBSEQUENT PNEUMONIA WAS DIAGNOSED. HE WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND IS STILL THERE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WANT TO TAKE IT APART TO SEE WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED OR IF IT IS TOTALED. I WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND AM AFRAID IF THEY START TAKING THE CAR APART I WILL NEVER KNOW. I WAS TOLD THE NHTSA WOULD HELP ME WITH AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS. THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH WHATSOEVER, AND AS SUCH, WOULD SWING FREELY TO FULL OPEN. CLOSING THE DOOR WOULD ONLY BOUNCE IT OFF THE CAR BODY AND WOULD NOT LATCH. I INSPECTED THE LATCH AND FOUND THE DOOR LATCH TO BE IN EXACTLY THE SAME POSITION AS THE OTHER PASSENGER DOORS AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH WHEN CLOSING FROM INSIDE, OUTSIDE OR WITH DOORS LOCKED OR UNLOCKED. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE HAD NO RESISTANCE AT ALL OR ANY FEELING OF BEING CONNECTED TO THE DOOR LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED THE DEALER AND THE LATCH REPLACED AS WELL AS A CONNECTION WITH THE LATCH AND THE DOOR LOCK AND HANDLE. I WAS TOLD BY BMW THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND BOTH KIDS BACK FROM BRUNCH SUNDAY EARLY AFTERNOON - THE LEFT REAR DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN. IT WAS FULLY CLOSED PREVIOUSLY AND ABOUT A MILE OR TWO DOWN THE ROAD IT POPPED OPEN AND BECAME AJAR WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE CAR INDICATED A DOOR WAS OPEN. I HAD PERSONALLY CLOSED THE DOOR AND AM SURE THAT IT WASN'T OPEN WHEN I STARTED DRIVING, THE CAR WOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ME ANYWAY. I PULLED OVER IN A PARKING LOT AND TOOK PHOTOS WHICH I'VE SENT TO BMW. MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT WAS STRAPPED INTO A CAR SEAT WITH 5-POINT HARNESS AND SEPARATE ARM RESTS. SHE SAYS SHE DID NOT TOUCH THE DOOR IN ANY WAY TO TRIGGER THE INCIDENT. FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT IS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY WITHIN THE B PILLAR CAUSING THE BELT TO BE TWISTED AND INTERFERES WITH THE SPEED AND TOTALITY OF THE BELT'S RETRACTION. I NOTED THIS TO THE SALESMAN AT NEW VEHICLE DELIVERY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THEY'D FIX IT AT THE NEXT SERVICE APPOINTMENT. AT THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, I COMPLAINED AGAIN ABOUT THE TWISTED SEAT BELT AND WAS FIRST ACCUSED OF TWISTING THE SEAT BELT. THE BMW TECHS ATTEMPTED TO "UNTWIST" THE SEAT BELT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD FIXED IT. UPON RETURN OF THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING PROPERLY AND IS STILL TWISTED. THIS DEFECT APPLIES TO ALL STATES OF VEHICLE OPERATION AND DEALER HAS FAILED TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION ON TWO OCCASIONS. I DO NOT TRUST THE SEAT BELT WAS ENGINEERED TO WITHSTAND AN ACCIDENT WHILE INSTALLED BACKWARDS AND CERTAINLY NOT WITH A FOLDED/TWISTED/KINKED BELT. I NOW BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE BMW HAS FAILED TO RECTIFY THIS FACTORY DEFECT WHICH SEEMS TO CREASE AND CAUSE IRREPARABLE HARM TO THE SEAT BELT, BEING RETRACTED IN SUCH A STATE. I DO NOT WANT A PASSENGER INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF A FACTORY DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT WHICH I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO RECTIFY SINCE TAKING DELIVERY OF THIS CUSTOM-ORDERED VEHICLE IN 10/2015. 3 PHOTOS OF IMPROPERLY INSTALLED FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT INCLUDED.
