I have a BMW X5 and I received a recall notice, recall campaign 21V-907 (possibility of fire due to Exhaust gas recirculation cooler issue) 13 months ago. December 2021. BMW is telling me that they do not have the parts to fix this--13 months. THis is ridiculous. This is a FIRE hazard. What can be done? also your hotline does not work when dialed--- the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236

The vehicle lost power and would barely accelerate while I was driving on the Capital beltway in the DC Area. When I took it to the mechanic, we found out that several of the fuel injectors were bad. I researched this issue and found that these vehicles are prone to having this problem and the NHTSA has several service bulletins to address this issue (e.g. SI B01 03 15 ). However, it looks like this specific vehicle is not covered by the extended warranty even though the part numbers on the 2012 covered vehicles are exactly the same! BWM should be held responsible for this

There was a recall on my 2013 BMW in January 2022. In the recall letter it was mentioned that the they would notify me when the recall repairs were available. I called my local BMW service center in July 2022 to ask if the part was available. It was stated that the part was not available. The representative stated what was in the recall letter, which was. "this time. We will notify you with a follow-up letter as soon as we are able to perform this safety recall. What could happen? The engine’s Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooler could develop an internal leak. Cooling fluid could mix with typical diesel engine soot deposits. With high temperatures normally present in the EGR module, this might result in smoldering particles. In some cases, these particles could contact the engine intake manifold and create small holes due to melting. If this occurs, it would increase the risk of a fire. Your vehicle may be experiencing this issue if one or more of the following occurs; a reduction in engine power, a warning symbol indicating a loss of engine coolant, an unpleasant odor (e.g., exhaust) and/or an unusual noise from the engine. If this occurs, carefully move away from traffic and pull over to a safe location as soon as possible. All occupants should carefully exit the vehicle and move to a safe location away from traffic. Do not continue to drive the vehicle. SAMPLE If you are not the only driver of this vehicle, please advise all other drivers and passengers of this important information." My daughter was driving the car an almost home when she started to smell burning and minutes later saw smoke and flames. She got out of the call and called 911. The care was a total loss, due to this recall and BMW is taking no responsibility for the loss. She is still recovering from the incident and I would like to take action against BMW. I have the police and fire department report from the town of MIlton.
The contact owns a 2015 BMW X5. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V907000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The contact had suffered a failure when the vehicle overheated. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed that the EGR cooler needed to be replaced; however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.
Coolant continues to leak because of this still unfixed issue. It still makes noises that it shouldn't. Its been EIGHT MONTHS since this recall was issued and still not fixed. It's unacceptable. There is a risk of fire and BMW is dragging it's feet!
Multiple fuel injector malfunction codes have been displayed by the vehicle repeatedly over the course of the last 10k miles. These malfunctions are causing the Malfunction Indicator Light to illuminate and remain on. This issue is documented to affect multiple vehicles with the same engine/injectors. BMW has provided an extended warranty for some vehicles with this engine/injector combination. However not all vehicles with this engine/injectors are covered by the warranty extension. This issue has cause noticeably lower fuel milage as well as random violent jerking while leaving from a stop, accelerating, and traveling at speed. A multiple injector failure while in motion has a potential to create a safety issue for the occupants of the affected vehicle and those of surrounding vehicles if the vehicle suddenly looses power or drive at highway speed.

Made an appointment to fix the issue by Recall and confirmed that the necessary part was in stock. When arrived at the dealer ( new country bmw in Hartford ct) told me that they didn’t have the part and not even inspect the car at all.
There's not a current solution available for the car from the dealer or anyone please advise on what needs to be done?
I am getting a this message “passenger restraint system malfunction. a lot of people are getting the same message. I find out the reason for that is Water is getting inside the car every time is raining from the passenger side and moisture buildup causing that. Every time I have to use a space heater to dry the car and is cleared it. But I am afraid the airbag not work properly if this keep happening and BMW is charging a lot of money this fix it after few months is came back again.
Sometimes when I drive the vehicle I smell smoke and there is a strong burning plastic smell. Occasionally, I see see smoke from the engine compartment. When I raise the hood it appears the smoke is coming from the back of the engine unit on the passenger side of the SUV. The problem is intermittent. Since COVID I barely drive so I have fairly low trip mileage.

High pressure fuel pump failure. I need to ask to get the old part(s) back. BMW had a recall on other years of this model, but not this particular year and month. When it fails, it fails abruptly and prevents the car from being driven. This has been a widespread problem on all diesel BMWs for many years. This may be the second pump to fail on this car (I bought it used from a BMW dealer). There were no warnings.
Shock busted completely though the shock mount.
Important safety recall issued, rcall campaign No 21V-907: EGR Cooler. BMW. Since the recall the engine is producing a weird noise, indicated as one of the effects, and the car has had so far two repairs performed in February and March, most probably as effects of this recall: diesel transfer pump had to be replaced and diesel particular sensor. Remedy is unavailable and BMW is not giving any solution so far, while i am incurring in high repair costs and the unavailability of my vehicle.

Engine stalled at low speed. Was able to restart engine. Check engine light was on so was able to drive it to dealer. Dealer determined it was hpfp failure, with metal shards in fuel line, so entire fuel system replaced (injectors, lines, hpfp, etc). Hpfp was replaced with the same model that failed, just a new one. A while later, engine stalled again at low speed. No check engine light but was able to restart engine. Dealer notified of stall post-fix of entire fuel system. A while later engine stalled a 3rd time while driving around 40 mph. No check engine light Was advised that there was a recall for a newly designed hpfp but not in stock at dealer yet. Eventually had the newly redesigned hpfp installed under recall. A few weeks later, experienced another stall while idling at a red light. Amazingly was able to get a real-time video of the engine stalling and shutting off. No check engine light. Was unable to restart engine after multiple tries but engine finally fired up on the 5th or 6th or 7th attempt at restarting. Was able to pull over to the side of the road and notified dealer that I experienced another engine stall after installation of the newly designed recalled hp fuel pump.. Took the car into the dealer and showed them the real Time video of my engine stalling and dealer sent diagnostics to BMW North America but Was advised that BMW engineers were unable to replicate or to find the problem that caused the engine stall. Full credit to local BMW dealer that has always tried their best to help me find and fix the problem but the engine stalling randomly is a life or death kind of malfunction. After 4 engine stalls including after a replacement of a recalled brand new design part, I'm hoping BMW North America can work with me towards a solution and not have to wait till a catastrophic accident before a remedy is offered.

My car has an active SAFETY recall, that was issued in 11/2021. Today is 01/18/2023 and BMW still shows the remedy is unavailable. Safety recalls should not be allowed to be ignored by the manufacturer. It's been over one year since issued & they still can not give any estimated time frame, when they might have a remedy available. This is a safety issue & BMW is a MAJOR manufacturer, a luxury manufacturer. Yet they do not care about their customers after purchase & they aren't standing behind their product. My car is having issues related to this recall & their solution is to charge expensive repairs, all the while ignoring the recall. This is unacceptable. The reasonable time frame to remedy this has passed. Again, how is this legal to ignore a SAFETY recall?????

The vehicle started running rough, starting rough, and idling high. The diagnostic codes indicated a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. BMW has recalled these in all of the 2014-2018 diesel engines, but it appears the high-pressure fuel pumps are also failing in the gasoline engines, of which I own.
I have owned the above-identified 2015 BMW XDrive 35d since new. This vehicle is equipped with BMW’s N57T engine. My wife and I started experiencing the car pulsing or surging under acceleration within the first year of ownership. Despite no warning lights being on, we brought the car to the dealership as early as September 20, 2016, to complain of the pulsating acceleration on the car. Although we experienced the problem daily, the dealership was “unable to duplicate the problem.” We visited the dealership several times thereafter to complain of this ongoing problem. Each time the dealership was “unable to duplicate the problem.” Finally, in June 2018, I visited the dealership and asked to go for a ride with the head service tech. During that drive, I was able to easily duplicate the issue. Upon further investigation by the head service tech, on or about June 11, 2018, BMWNA replaced a fuel injector (injector No. 6, PN 13-53-8-506-548) on the vehicle under warranty, which finally remedied the nearly two-year problem. In October 2021, the vehicle’s check engine light started going on and off intermittently. As a result, on or about October 14, 2021, my wife took the car to the dealership. We were informed that fuel injector No. 2 was now bad and that it would cost us nearly $1,250 to repair the vehicle. Given that one fuel injector on the vehicle had previously failed, I started doing some research about this engine and its fuel injectors. What I discovered was very troubling. In 2019, BMW of North America (“BMWNA”) issued SIB 01 09 19 (DC 13 53 90 06 00) extending the warranty on the fuel injectors used in certain models equipped with the N57T engine to 10 years/120,000 miles. Specifically, BMWNA listed the following vehicles as being covered by the SIB: F02 (740Ld xDrive) (N57T Engine) Model Year 2015 produced from 2/13/2014 to 5/08/2015F10 (535d Sedan) (N57T Engine) Model Year 2015 produced from 7/07/2014 to 6/26/2015F10 (535d xDrive Sedan) (N57T Engine) M
My vehicle was part of a recall No. 21V-586. I was told I have metal shavings in the fuel system coming from the high pressure fuel pump and given a price to repair of $17,200.00. I first looked on line and found my make, model and year was part of a recall for this exact same issue I informed the dealership of the recall. The contacted BMW and they stated they would not cover the repairs because now they are saying it was bad fuel. I stated if bad fuel then we treat it and nothing should be wrong with the pump. This went on for a couple week then I requested a BMW come to the dealership to inspect. After this visit it was agreed they would replace the high pressure fuel pump and nothing else. After fighting them and telling them if the metal shavings in the system is from a recalled part then why are they not correcting the entire issue. I then received an email later with repairs listed and it show hoses and filters and new fuel and no charge. I assumed they replace the entire fuel system to get rid of the metal shavings. I went pick up the vehicle and was told that there are still metal shavings in the system to be careful as the vehicle may shut off without warning. I asked how BMW could give a car back that they did not fix the problem and may cause a crash. They had no answer. I now have a car that I really can't drive and has no value. I have had to purchase another car thus incurred additional and unwanted expense due to BMW's refusal to correct a manufacturer's defect. Why is it my responsibility to pay to have the metal shavings from their recalled fuel pump removed from the fuel system. If they can't fix the problem then I should be reimbursed for the car's value by BMW and not have it available to be on the road and cause an unnecessary accident. I am asking for your help in dealing with BMW to rectify this matter as they are unwilling to deal with me. Started my car like normal and ran for 30 seconds after leaving Walmart after I picked up a few things then the car shut off out of no where.. attempted to start again and the car tried to turn over then even stopped doing that after a few attempts.. I had the car towed to my home.. my husband then inspected the vehicle and the high pressure fuel pump has failed causing my engine to lock up.. I have maintained this vehicle like I should because I loved my car and my husband is a mechanic.. This vehicle only with 127000.. this should of not happened I have read bmw is going to recall this but when my vin is ran nothing shows up.. I owe on this vehicle still and it really has put me in a bind financially with having to miss work and having to find other transportation.. this is ridiculous. I got no warning lights or any noise warnings.

The contact owns a 2015 BMW X5. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact was alerted by his daughter, who was in another vehicle, that there was smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The contact attempted to notify the dealer but was not able to speak to someone regarding the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
Drove car after it sat for a few days. Got about a mile from my home and thought I smelled some smoke. Rolled down windows to make sure it was not outside (was in rural area). It was not. Went another mile and pulled over. Seemed to be a small amount of smoke coming out near vent and near seatbelt uprights near door. Looked under hood and under car and saw nothing. Opened sunroof to determine if there was more smoke and to clear the air. It looked like there was a small amount of smoke coming out where the sunroof opened. NOTE: It was hot out and I had put A/C on max. I let car sit a few minutes (was running) and seemed like issue might be gone. Decided best course of action was to drive it the few miles back home and maybe get it towed. Started back toward home and now there was definitely noticeable smoke. Also started to get odd messages on the dash and operator interface. Pulled over immediately and turned off. Smoke seemingly coming from the body of the car (like in the doors, in gaps in the sunroof, through the seatbelt holders, etc.) Definitely seemed as though a blower motor, window motor or some other device overheated. There was the smell of plastic/rubber burning. Went behind the car and opened the tail. I lifted the mat in the back and it seemed hot. Then could see red/yellow through a gap. Not sure if flames or something hot. Decided to grab important items and call 911. Car was in flames with seconds. Car was a complete loss. No doubt in my mind that it was electrical. Was not engine, transmission or exhaust related.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE U JOINT BROKE OFF. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON 2011-2014 OF THE SAME VEHICLE. I FIND IT INTERESTING BECAUSE, MY VEHICLE WAS MADE IN 2014 BUT THEY ARE CALLING IT A 2015 VEHICLE.
Error related to emission system appeared at 72K miles: active tank scr fluid level sensor: echo recognized as faulty. Check engine light went off. Confirmed by independent service.

AUG 25TH 2020 MORNING, WESTPORT CT, MY WIFE STARTED VEHICLE AND TRYING TO BACK OUT FROM GARAGE. SUDDENLY REALIZED THAT SHE CANNOT TURN THE WHEEL AS BEFORE AND BECAME EXTREMELY STIFFEN. SHE ALMOST HIT THE GARAGE WALL. WE TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THIS ISAN EPS FAILURE. WE INVESTIGATED ONLINE AND SAW SEVERAL CASES LIKE US AND SOME HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY. WE ARE LUCKY FOUND THIS WHEN WE ARE STILL IN OUR GARAGE. EPS OF BMW HAD RECALL(16V-704) WHICH BMW ONLY RECALLED 50 CARS DURING 2-3 YEAR OF MANUFACTURING PERIOD. I BELIEVE THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED AND CERTAINLY MY CAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED WHICH IS WITHIN THIS TIME FRAME.IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WHEN I SMELLED SMOKE AND WITHIN SECONDS THE BACK OF MY CAR WAS ENGULFED IN BLACK SMOKE. I WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE AND OPEN THE TRUNK WHERE I SAW A FIRE IN THE TRUNK. I SHUT THE TRUNK AND RAN AND THE CAR BLEW UP TWO TIMES. 4 MONTHS PREVIOUS TO THIS THE LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP CHANGED MY BATTERY WHICH IS IN THE BACK AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED IT WAS PROBABLY SOMETHING ELECTRICAL WITH THE BATTERY (IN THE TRUNK) THAT STARTED THE FIRE. IT APPEARS THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS WITH THIS SORT OF ISSUE, NOT SO MUCH AS WHEN DRIVING, BUT I THINK MAYBE MY CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THERE WAS ALMOST NOTHING LEFT TO THE CAR, THAT IS HOW QUICK THE FIRE HAPPENED. *TR
