S10- DIRECT REPLY- LETTER TO THE SECRETARY FROM CONSTITUENT REGARDING ASSISTANCE WITH A SAFETY RECALL OF A 2005 BUICK LACROSSE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THEN GO OFF. THE DEALER STATED IT WOULD COST $150 TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG MODULE FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE STALLED SLIGHTLY WHEN DRIVING UP A SHORT HILL. THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER CONCLUDED THE FENDER WAS RUBBING ON THE TIRE WHEN TURNING LEFT AND THEY SIMPLY RE-POSITIONED THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER. ON ONE OCCASION, WHEN THE CONSUMER STARTED THE VEHICLE, HE HEARD A STRANGE NOISE AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ABS ACTIVATES EARLY WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT LOW SPEEDS, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF BREAKING FORCE WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT LOW SPEEDS. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED AFTER CORRODED WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 BUICK LACROSSE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT LIGHTING IN ORDER TO VIEW THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AT NIGHT WHEN SUDDENLY THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LEAVE THE ROAD AS HE WAS GOING THRU A TURN AT THE TIME. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE CAR ONLY SUFFERED MINOR DAMAGE. IT HAD TO BE PULLED OUT OF THE DITCH. AFTER THE CAR WAS DRIVEN HOME LESS THAN A MILE AWAY, I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THAT THE FUSE BOX HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND A PORTION MELTED. THIS ALSO DAMAGED THE WIRING CONNECTED TO THE FUSE BOX. I AM NOT SURE WHAT OTHER COMPONENTS HAVE FAILED AS A RESULT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN OPERABLE SINCE. I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND HAVE SPENT $300 AND COUNTLESS HOURS ON LABOR SO FAR. THIS SAME PROBLEM IS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED ON 2006 AND UP BUICK LACROSSE'S. I WOULD LIKE FOR THE 2005 MODELS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PENDING RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE FOR $8,000 AND NOW I AM NOT SURE IT WILL EVER RUN AGAIN.

2005 BUICK LACROSSE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO IGNITION KEY AND BRAKE PADS RECALL NOTICES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ROTORS WERE MADE OF POOR MATERIAL. WHICH RESULTED IN PREMATURE WARPING. JUST PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY REPLACED ALL OF THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, A FEW WEEKS LATER, SOMETHING CAUSE THE CONSUMER TO BRAKE HARD, AND THAT ACTION CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE CONSUMERS HANDS AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A WILD SKID. HE ALMOST WENT INTO A DITCH, BUT MANAGED TO GET CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
2005 BUICK LACROSSE. CONSUMER WRITES ON BEHALF OF PARENTS VEHICLE IGNITION RECALL PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS PARENTS NOTICED THE DOOR LOCKS WERE NOT LOCKING PROPERLY. PRIOR TO THE FIRST VISIT, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PARK, ALL OF THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK. AFTER THE FIRST VISIT, THEY WOULD HAVE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, REMOVE THE KEY AND AFTER REMOVING THE KEY ALL OF THE DOORS WOULD UNLOCK. AFTER THE SECOND VISIT, THE DOORS WORKED PROPERLY, BUT WHEN THE CONSUMERS MOTHER WENT TO START THE VEHICLE WITH THE REMOTE START THE FOLLOWING MORNING, IT DID NOT WORK. THE REMOTE START WORKED PRIOR TO THE RECALL. AFTER THE THIRD VISIT, THE CONSUMERS FATHER WAS GIVEN TWO KEYS AND TWO TRANSMITTERS. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM, THEY COULD NO LONGER HELP HIM AND THE ONLY WAY THE PROBLEM COULD BE CORRECTED WAS TO PURCHASE TWO NEW KEYS, TWO NEW TRANSMITTERS AND THE REPROGRAM EACH AT A COST OF $ 390.00. THE CONSUMERS PARENTS CALLED ANOTHER DEALER AND WAS QUOTED A PRICE A $100 CHEAPER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *JB

PULLED INTO PARKING LOT AND LOST POWER STEERING. LOTS OF CLUNKING AND GRINDING JUST PRIOR. MECHANIC SAYS POWER STEERING HOSES, RACK AND PINION AND TIE RODS. YET ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. GM WAS AWARE ENOUGH OF THE PROBLEM THAT THEY PUT A SUPERVISOR ON THE LINE BUT SAID THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY NOW, SO IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM. GOING TO TRY TO WORK WITH LOCAL GUYS TO GET OUT OF IT. NOT SINKING ANOTHER PENNY INTO THIS CAR. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, I'D BE DEAD. *TR

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED BACK, KNEE, AND NECK PAIN THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. BUT LEAKAGE CONTINUED UNTIL I ASSUME FLUID WAS LOW OR OUT. NOW I NOTICE A STEERING WHEEL SQUEAL WHENEVER I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, REGARDLESS OF LOW OR HIGH SPEED.
