This page combines three types of NHTSA data: recall campaigns (official manufacturer or government actions), owner complaints (unverified consumer reports), and crash test ratings (where available). A vehicle with many complaints is not necessarily less reliable — complaint volume correlates with sales volume and vehicle age. Recalls indicate identified defects, not overall quality. To compare this model year with others, use the year navigation in the sidebar or return to the model overview page.

My son was driving home from work down Highway 288 in Houston and the car just died and did not start. The door locks were going up and down like it was trying to reset and lock the car. I had it fixed and they said it was the fuel pump was out. We had the fuel pump fixed and a new battery put in. Would this cause it to loose power immediately and the door locks to go crazy?

EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS SHRED OFF CAUSING ENGINE MISFIRE. LEADING TO A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. MECH. SAID THAT THIS HAPPENS ON ALL THE GM OF A SIMILAR DESIGN, AT HIGHWAY SPEED DON'T NOTICE THE ROUGHNESS. WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP AND CAN REALLY FEEL THE CYLINDER MISS FIRING. FAULT CODE SAID NUMBER WAS MIS-FIRING. *TR
AT A STOPLIGHT ON AN OVERPASS THE CAR SHUT OFF AND WOULDN'T RESTART FOR 10 MINUTES. AFTER IT RESTARTED AND WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND GET ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR SHUTOFF WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY LOST. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER 5 MINUTES OR SO CAR RESTARTED. THERE WAS A CADILLAC DEALER WITHIN 10 MILES SO WE CONTINUED ON TO TRY AND GET THERE. THE CAR SHUTOFF AGAIN GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY ON THE EXIT RAMP AND AGAIN LOST POWER STEERING. AGAIN WAITED FOR 5 MINUTES THE CAR RESTARTED. SAME THING HAPPENED PULLING INTO THE DEALER PARKING LOT. WE WERE LUCKY THERE WASN'T MUCH TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY OR I WOULD IMAGINE WE COULD HAVE VERY LIKELY CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT WITH THE CAR SHUTTING OFF AT 60 MPH WITH NO STEERING. WE WERE IN A RURAL AREA WHERE THE HIGHWAY DEATH TOLL IS HIGH. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS CASES OF OTHER ESCALADE OWNERS HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM.
1UNREPAIRED RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS VIN MAY 27,2016 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER2049151 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER16V381 RECALL STATUSRECALL INCOMPLETE, REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE SUMMARY TAKATA CORPORATION ('TAKATA') HAS DECIDED THAT A DEFECT WHICH RELATES TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY EXISTS IN CERTAIN 2007-2011 CADILLAC ESCALADE, ESCALADE ESV, ESCALADE EXT, CHEVROLET AVALANCHE, SILVERADO 1500, SUBURBAN, TAHOE, GMC SIERRA 1500, YUKON, YUKON XL, AND 2009-2011 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500/3500 AND GMC SIERRA 2500/3500 VEHICLES. THIS IS BASED UPON TAKATA'S DECISION THAT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATORS IT SUPPLIED TO GM ARE DEFECTIVE. GM HAS SUBMITTED TO NHTSA A PETITION FOR INCONSEQUENTIALITY AND NHTSA HAS GRANTED GM UNTIL AUGUST 2017 TO COMPLETE ITS INVESTIGATION AND TO SUBMIT ALL DATA SUPPORTING THE PETITION. IF THE PETITION IS DENIED, GM WILL CONDUCT A RECALL OF THE AIRBAG INFLATORS COVERED BY TAKATA'S DEFECT INFORMATION REPORT. FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT WWW.REGULATIONS.GOV AND SEARCH FOR DOCKET NO. NHTSA-2016-0124. SAFETY RISK THE PROPELLANT IN SOME TYPES OF TAKATA AIRBAG INFLATORS CAN DEGRADE OVER TIME, ESPECIALLY AFTER LONG TERM EXPOSURE IN HOT AND HUMID REGIONS. IF THE PROPELLANT DEGRADES TO A CERTAIN LEVEL, THE INFLATORS MAY RUPTURE DURING DEPLOYMENT, CAUSING SERIOUS OR FATAL INJURIES. THE AIRBAG INDICATOR HAS COME ON. I OWN TWO CADILLAC VEHICLES AND COINCIDENTALLY THEY HAVE THE SAME RECALL AND, THE SAME INDICATOR LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON BOTH VEHICLES. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS RECALL IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. WE LIVE IN FLORIDA WHERE IT'S HOT, SO WE CONSTANTLY DRIVE IN THE SUN. FOR BOTH VEHICLES TO HAVE A RECALL AND NOW BOTH INDICATORS FOR AIRBAGS ARE ILLUMINATED I BELIEVE THAT THIS MAY BE APART OF THIS TAKATA ISSUE.
SOMETIMES WHILE BRAKING IT NEEDS MUCH MORE FORCE, MEANING I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN. ALSO IT FEELS LIKE THEY STICK AT TIMES. I SAW THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2015-2018 FOR THIS ISSUE BUT IT MAY GO BACK FURTHER.

IN A LETTER RE: TK HOLDINGS INC IT SPECIFICALLY READS IN BOLD SCRIPT, "IF YOUR VEHICLE CONTAINS A DEFECTIVE OR POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE AIRBAG INFLATOR AND IS UNDER RECALL, CONTACT YOUR NEAREST DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY TO SCHEDULE A FREE REPAIR."
