NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Reduced steering warning, the temperature gague is stuck on C, radiator fan is running on high as soon as I start my car and the transmission is shifting hard at second and third gears.
When I go to put my car in park, I get a notice warning chime to shift it into park. Which then results me into not being able to turn off my car. I am then forced to sit in the car and try to wiggle the shifter until it registers that the car itself is in park. . This first happened to me a few days ago with my toddler and infant child in the car. Compromising my safety as well as the safety of my children, since I was now forced to sit in a public parking lot with my kids in the car trying to not only turn off the car, but also trying to make sure my car was properly parked and not an endangerment to others. I recently called a dealership on feb26,2025 and found out I had the problem fixed once before in 2021. I’m now currently working on getting my car to the dealer to get this issue resolved asap. Which is an inconvenience to me, my schedule as well as the schedule of others, since I now need assistance getting to and from the dealer along with taking my children to school and or appointments.
Nothing necessarily happened, but I've been getting the "steering assist reduced, drive with care" pop up, which assist I've been reading might mean a faulty thermostat. Sounds like a common issue and may e time for a recall? Only 60k miles on my blazer.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that upon attempting to shift to park, the vehicle failed to register that the gear shifter had been shifted to park. The contact stated that the message “Shift to Park” was displayed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was unable to turn off the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was advised that the shifter cable was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
When I shift the car into park and turn it off I get a message that it isn’t in park though it is as displayed on the console. To clear the message I have to move the shifter back and forward several times. I’ve had it in the shop twice already but the problem continues to return. This should be a recall!!
When attempting to put my car in PARK, the car issues a warning stating the car is not in PARK, it doesn't recognize the gear shift being in park, therefore, I am unable to shut my car off or lock it up. It is a known manufacturing defect and GM refuses to cover the cost to add a bandaid to it as there is no permanent fix. This is a safety issue, and now my car is not reliable, nor safe. GM refuses to issue a recall on this.
SHIFT TO PARK MESSAGE COMING UP ON DASH SCREEN EVENTHOUGH SHIFTER WAS IN PARK. ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OFF. HAD TO SHIFT SEVERAL TIMES FOR VEHICLE TO RECOGNIZE PARK . THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOME 2019 CHEVY BLAZERS AND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED, BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 37752. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW. DEALERSHIP RELACED SHIFTER CONTROL AT A COST TO ME OF $553.60. IF THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SHOULD A RECALL COVER ALL ?
I recently stopped at a local store and put the car in park. A message appeared on the dash Shift to Park. I was not able to turn the car off and I had to move the gear shift back and forth until the message went off. I couldn't lock the car correctly by moving away from it. I used the key fob to eventually lock the the car. My concern is that if my wife is driving, she may not be able to lock or move the vehicle. This seems very unsafe. Should this be brought to the attention of the local Chevrolet dealer?
When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of ‘Shift to Park’ appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. This currently is forcing me to restart the engine, put my car in reverse, shift back in drive, try re-parking and turning it off again, repeating the process until it eventually turns off. I do not know if my car is truly in gear or not. I’m afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation. GM has already identified this recall for other VINs of 2019 Chevy Blazers I believe it should be extended to additional VINs.
When i put my car into park and go to shut the car off if starts saying put car in park even tho it is already in park. It will not allow me to fully shut car off when it says that. I usually have to put it back into drive and back into park again for it to register.
Shift into Park warning when turning vehicle off even though vehicle is in park.
The Blazer is having a recurring P0128 code. We have informed the dealership. This has been going on for 2 years or so. I reset the code with a code reader and it stays off for a few months usually. Tried to have the dealership look at it one of the last times it happened but they wouldn't just look at it...they wanted to set up an appointment. We needed the car so I reset the code again. Now it is time to get it fixed. I know it needs a thermostat and temperature sensor. The cost to install it will be close to $1000. This should not be at my cost. This is a know issue with the 3.6L engine and it affects the emissions of the vehicle along with many other parts of the engine. I am reaching out to see what can be done.
With great frequency when I put my 2019 Chevrolet Blazer into park position I receive the error message to "Put vehicle into park" when it is in fact in the Park position after done driving. I've tried putting the car into drive again or reverse then back into park position or trying to turn the car off then back on and this does not clear the message. I am unable to turn the vehicle off completely until the message has cleared. The vehicle remains in Auxiliary mode until the message has cleared which takes several attempts. This is a huge inconvenience!! My local Chevrolet service center has checked my VIN information and there are no active, repaired or expired recalls for my vehicle. This has been a long time issue with this type of vehicle according to the Blazer forum. PLEASE ISSUE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ASAP!
When placing the vehicle into park there is often a issue with the sensor recognizing that the vehicle stating that it is not when attempting to power off the vehicle. When stopping there are times that the vehicle is difficult to stop and there is not fault code as to what may be occurring.
I am having a problem when I shift my car into Park to stop the car It will shut the engine off, but it will not shut off the accessories, and I have to restart the car and tried over and over again until it shuts off. Also the dash lights up to shift the car to park, but I already have
1. Wire harness with coil wires is the problem. It was fixed by a local shop and the vehicle can be inspected if needed. 2. The car throws a code for a faulty thermostat/coolant temp sensor. This will not allow the car get to oporating temp and could cause engine damage or not perform properly causing risk of an accident. Also this will reduce the driver assist features such as lane assist and adaptive cruise/braking. 3. Yes. 4. A local shop inspected the thermostat and coolant temp sensor and they oporated as they should. 5. The engine light comes on for the reasons mentioned above. It also has a "driver assist reduced" message. It appeared randomly while driving and stayed on for multiple days. Vehicle had a code for a bad thermostat/coolant temp sensor and "driver assist reduced" message. The cause is NOT the temp sensor or thermostat and is actually a wiring harness that two wires need to be separated from the bunch. The frequency from one wire interferes with the coolant temp sensor wires. I am on several forums for chevy blazers and there are TONS of posts about this issue with the 3.6 V6. Most people will go in and have these expensice parts replaced. It is not acceptable to have people get charged for a $800+ job when the part is not faulty.
Yesterday I received a message saying Driver assist reduced. Today received the same message, and heard a whirring noise when car was started.
My 2019 Blazer gave a Steering Assist warning on 2 Nov 2024. I was aware of a recall for other Blazers but for some reason my VIN was not among those recalled. I took it to the dealership on 6 Nov 2024. The dealership has determined that the issue is indeed the same issue with those other Blazers that have been recalled but refuses to include my car in the recall because the VIN number wasn't originally among that recall. I was told that the car needed anew temperature gage and that they would have to order it, however, the component was available outside of the dealership. I paid for the diagnostics and the part, being told that the light(s) would stay on, I would still be able to drive it and that I would receive a call when the part came in. It is my understanding that the steering assist reduced can affect the power steering and essentially revert back to manual power steering, potentially causing a loss of control while driving and increasing the risk of accidents. There were no warnings of the steering failure assist warning. It just appeared on Nov 2, 2024 at 1130am. About 1240pm I noticed that the temp gage was inop and the check engine light was now illuminated. I contend that because GM has already identified the thermostat issue serious enough to do a recall, then all Blazers with that recall issue, VIN number aside, should be given the same consideration and not have to pay for something that GM has already taken responsibility for. The dealership however does not agree for the simple fact that the VIN was not identified in the original recall.
Steer assist and thermostat issue. The vehicle has 42,000 miles on it. Have not been able to obtain/find a new thermostat since November 2024.
My check engine light is on the, the temperature meter is stuck on cold, the A/C only blows hot air, and the engine fan is blaring loud as heck the moment the car is started. Also it keeps telling me the steering assist has failed. I have replaced the battery and checked the coolant. Still the same issues.
2019 Blazer with 73,399 miles is in Park, but displays "Shift to Park". System does not recognize that the vehicle is in Park. Vehicle will not turn off even after shifting transmission to drive and then to Park again. "Shift to Park" message won't reset. Dealership said it's $1,642 to fix issue. Afraid to drive the vehicle because it won't shut off, can't be locked, and will run out of gas/battery if "Shift to Park" displayed message can't be reset/fixed.
PARK TO SHIFT CODE DISPLAYS, WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. PROBLEM HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY DEALERSHIP-BILL ROBERTS CHEVY IN BOLIVAR, MO SAFETY ISSUES- NOT FOR SURE IF CAR IS IN PARK COULD ROLL OFF. WILL RUN BATTERY DOWN. SAFETY ISSUES WITH EXISTING THE VEHICLE. AT SOME POINT COULD CAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND [XXX] MILEAGE ON VEHICLE IS 44,000 NOT UNDER WARRENTY DUE TO MILEAGE THE DEALERSHIP STATES. GM AND DEALERSHIP STATED THAT MY VIN# IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL FOR THE VERY SAME THING AS ON OTHER VIN# WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A PROBLEM IF MY CAR IS DOING THE SAME THING, IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AS WELL. IT IS A SAFEETY ISSUE THAT THE COMPANY SHOULD COVER. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle is not recognizing the car is in PARK when it is placed in Park.
When placing the vehicle in the park position and attempting to shut the vehicle off with the push button my DIC flashes a message stating to 'shift vehicle into park'. I have to move the shifter from park to another gear several times in order to keep this from appearing and allowing me to turn my vehicle off. I can take up to 5-6 times before I can get the vehicle to allow me to turn it off. I'm not really sure if it is or isn't in park even when I do this at that point. I have had this happen on multiple occasions over multiple months.
My 2019 Blazer won't shut off the electrical system because of a "shift to park" error. This causes a drain to the battery and could leave me stranded. The problem is simple electrical switch that is not making the connection to tell the car to shut off. This is a well documented problem with chevy vehicles in the late 2010s and includes multiple models. I have not had the problem verified by a Chevrolet dealer. I've reviewed multipe youtube videos that has had 10s of thousands of views which demonstrates the problem is very wide spread. Why is this not being recalled?
When I shift my car into park, I’m getting a “Shift into Park” warning on the dashboard and alarm is sounded telling me the car is not in park while it is. The car won’t shut off.
When I am shifting my vehicle to park (gear shift in console area) and turn my vehicle off I will get an error code in my dashboard that I need to shift to park. My gear shift in the console is lite up P and my dashboard electronic system says P; but when I try to turn my car off it won't turn off and stays on again giving me the error code that need to shift to park. I then have to turn my car back on to then try and turn it off with the same error code coming on. I can try pushing the gear shift further with no success, shift to different gears back to park, and try waiting a few minutes after shifting to park before turning it off and still no success. This is a safety issue that my car is not really in park and will take off if I take my foot off the brake when this is all occurring. I at one point had to turn my vehicle on and back off with no success at least 5 times before I can finally get it to turn off. This problem has been confirmed by multiple Chevrolet dealerships with all of them saying they have seen many vehicles (same make and model with other models included) with this issue. Manufacturer knows about it.
When I stop and put my vehicle in park the panel lights up and says put car in park and it is in park. I am not able to shut off my car when this does that. There have been recalls on the 2019 blazers for this specific reason. Mine did not make the cut. I had to pay $400.00 to get this fixed from the Chevrolet dealership and it's the same thing that has been happening for the other 2019 Blazers that had recalls. I would like to be reimbursed. Thank you
I keep getting this message that pops up, "Steering Assist reduced Drive with Care". At the same time this happens the temp gauge stays on cold, the ac quits working, the engine fan is on high, and most of the time I get code PO128. We have had it in to the dealer and they said the its the thermostat or the temp sensor. From what I am reading it could be a factory issue with the EMI issue from sensitive ECT circuitry. This has been an ongoing issue for us for over a year.
Receiving shift to park error when attempting to shut off my vehicle. In December 2021 I had the parts replaced at the dealership, and as of a week ago the issue has started back. I am concerned that I will be stucked somewhere unable to shut off my vehicle or worst-case it doesn't actually stay in park.
Po128 temp. Below normal, happens on a regular basis, at least 2 times a week,
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated while placing the vehicle in the park and attempting to turn off the vehicle, the message "Shift to Park" was displayed on the instrument panel, enabling the ability to turn off the vehicle. The transmission failed to lock the vehicle in park for the vehicle to be able to turn off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the harness Part Number: 84733196 and the switch Part Number: 84955379. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that there was no recall for the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 19,563.
8 out of 10 times I put the vehicle in park I receive a "shift to park" alert. I have to put it in another gear several times before it recognizes it is parked. Sometimes flicking the shifter push-in piece on the bottom will work. I am unsure if the car is officially parked when I don't get this message.
When the vehicle is shifted into park the indicator on the dashboard and the on the console next to the shifter display 'P' but when ignition is turned off a warning on the dash shows shift into park. It is on the web with multiple complaints. This problem appears on other GM platforms.
2019 Chevy Blazer RS - 39,217 miles and shifter assembly is malfunctioning and will not allow car to turn off properly and leaving lights, beeping and miscellaneous dash indicators on. This is a known issue with Chevy.
Without warning, the brake pedal on my 2019 Chevy Blazer became hard, almost as if the car was turned off. I was unable to stop and slowly rolled into the back of a semi stopped at a stoplight. This was moments after exiting off of a major highway and could have been much worse. The car was taken to a mechanic and it was determined to be a failure with the brake booster. GM has issued recalls for this problem in several other models but the Blazer has been excluded. Based on online forums and complaints of multiple other Blazer owners, it seems obvious that Blazers should have been included in the recall.
There is a current recall in place #19-NA-206 that I believe should include my vehicles vin number. There is an intermittent shift to park message that appears when the vehicle had been shifted into park and the ignition has been turned to off position. Making it unsafe as I am not sure if the vehicle is actually in park or not.
When in park my car says “shift to park” when it has clearly been shifted into park. I’ve read forums and it’s the same issue for many Chevrolet cars
I cannot shut off my vehicle. When I turn off engine warning message and alert binging tells me to shift to park. The vehicle is in park but vehicle does not register that it’s in park. I’m stuck in vehicle which will not stop alerts and runs down battery. This is a hazardous situation. I can’t tell if car is actually engaged in park or not. This started happening intermittently over the last month but now it happens 8 times out of 10 when I try to shut off the vehicle.
I placed the shifter into the park position & a warning came on the dash stating the car is not in park as I turned off the ignition. The warning on the dash as well as an audible warning. I had to use the key fob to lock the doors. I took the car to the dealership for repairs.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle accelerated and decelerated independently. The contact stated that the message to "Shift to Park" was displayed while shifted to park(P). The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the contact was informed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
There were 2 incidents. 1) got a steering control error, plus my AC stopped working and the temperature gauge would exceed zero. I was able to drive. I had the error code reset and the problem went away 2) car stalled on a busy street and I got a service all wheel drive warning. I was able to restart the car and the error went away.
The starter and flex plate failed (cracked) on the vehicle while on the road due to the auto start stop feature. When I stopped for a red light, the car made a loud grinding noise and would not restart leaving me stranded in traffic. The 2019 Blazer has the auto start stop feature which cannot be disabled and likely results in excess wear and tear. GM updated the 2020 model to allow the function to be disabled. GM has a number of technical bulletins highlighting both starter and flex plate issues, the first being in 2020. Both the starter and flex plate failures were verified by Reeder Chevrolet in Knoxville TN. I've asked for the flex plate to be provided when repair is complete. There were no warnings via check engine lights or any strange noises prior to the failure.
Steering assist reduction from coolant temperature reading malfunction. Power steering reduction risking potential loss of control of vehicle. Code confirmed by Chevy dealer.
When parking gear is in park but when turning car off car is saying gear is not in park.Turning car back on gear says in park but when turning back off still says shift to park and then you have to willing gear to see what’s going on. If gear is saying in park but actually not in park it can damage to car & people unknowingly

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that they began to notice the grill at the front of their vehicle begin to flake slowly over time. The flakes had grown to the size of a dime. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the contact was advised that the dealer would cover half of the cost to replace the grill. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue.
While using my vehicle, twice in one day, my vehicle failed to recognize that it was in park. My 2019 Chevrolet Blazer essentially malfunctioned, and was unable to recognize that it was in park, which left me unable to leave the car to go into my office building. The car was in fact in park, but did not recognize this fact. I tried exiting the vehicle and closing the door, but the car still would not turn off. I was left to essentially babysit my car, while attempting to work the gear shifter back and forth between drive, reverse, and park, until it eventually finally accepted that it was set to park, and allowed me to fully power the car down. If I am unable to have the car recognize that it is in park, I am unable to leave it, as it can be started and driven without the FOB due to the potential safety hazard of the vehicle thinking it is not properly shifted into park. The battery will also be drained, effectively leaving me with an inoperable vehicle. In the image I attached, please view the bottom right corner of the dashboard which indicates "P" for park, while the vehicle still states that I am not shifted into park. I have a video of this incident, and it appears many consumers with select models of Chevrolet and GMC cars also have this issue. I find it appalling that many have already discovered this issue, yet no recall has been placed to fix this widely known issue (even by GM according to their bulleting regarding this).
Thermostat clicking off, internal cab thermostat not reading going to C, and air blows hot
