Steering assist is reduced Drive with care
Received repeated message on display " steering assist reduced, drive with care" Engine races at times and Auto Stop quicks working. Could lead to a crash if steering is restricted due to P0128 code was repeatedly triggered as a fault code. Turned out to be thermostat which is being replaced on thousands of these vehicles. You can search for the message. GM is replacing under powertrain warranty however many vehicles are beyond warranty. This is approximately a $1000 repair.
I'm getting a Shift to Park message on my dashboard when the car is in park position telling me to take action with a loud dinging sound. I need to know if this is a GM issue? Thanks
Right before my warranty went off I had my car in for service. I also mentioned the shift to park light coming on after putting my car in park. They could not duplicate the problem. On the next service I mentioned it was happening more and more. They wanted to charge me a minimum of $500 just to look at it but also informed me it was a known issue. Because my warranty was now expired by a few hundred miles they wanted me pay if I wanted them to look. Absolutely not. Known issue with hundreds of the same complaint=‘s RECALL Fix our cars Chevy!!!
I have a 2019 Chevy Blazer RS with 12,350 miles on it. As you can tell I use it locally. A month ago I pulled into my garage, put the car into park, shut the car off & a warning came across the dash saying "Shift to Park". I started the car back up, put the car in neutral then park & shut it off. The message was gone so I blamed it on something I must have done. Two weeks later the same thing happened. I did the same routine and it fixed itself. This time I started taking notice. Last week it did it again. Today was the worse. I was at the grocery store and it took 3-5 minutes to fix it. I already have an appointment at the dealership on 3/20/24 for an oil change, tire rotation & 12-point check up. I'll be bringing this malfunction to their attention. I'll also be bringing a credit card with me because I have a feeling after doing some investigation that I might be getting [XXX] in the pocket book. I see some places say it takes an hour and costs a couple hundred & others are charging $500 & keeping the car over night. I also see GM has known about this since 2016 with the Malibu and Volt. How sad a recall hasn't been ordered for this issue. I've read it could be a $9 wire harness that can be bought at GM Parts Direct. So GM doing nothing over a possible $9 part? That's a sin! The constant chiming wears the battery down not to mention being the only person in the car who knows nothing about mechanics is a scary position to be put in. I saw 3 class action law suits have been filed so isn't it time for the Federal Government to step in and do something about this? It's absolutely absurd to allow this to continue now going on 9 years. I can't buy a winning lottery ticket, but boy if there's a faulty product out there I'll buy that. What are the chances of me, after fighting to finally getting an SUV for decades, I finally get the only Chevy in 2019 to end up with a problem GM won't acknowledge. When shifting into Park, system fails to detect that car is in park and gives the Alert/Error message informing driver to “Shift to Park”. This error prevents the car from turning off or locking. Further, driver is unable to differentiate between if the car is actual in park or not, which is a major safety issue. A car not recognizing being in Park, can pose a huge risk to the driver and any around the car when it is in this state.
My vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty thermostat, specifically that the thermostat was sticking and needs replaced. My vehicle is at approximately 59,150 miles as of 12/27/2023. Prior to the diagnosis of the faulty thermostat, I intermittently received a warning message "Steering assist reduced - drive with caution", the thermostatic fan would run at full speed, and the P0128 check engine code was illuminated. These symptoms began approximately at the beginning of December 2023. The problem was confirmed by a certified GM dealership service department.
Error code P0128. Engine temp sensor keeps going off and on. Temp gauge drops to 0 and doesn’t read, AC goes out, check engine light comes on, steering assist is reduced drive with care notification comes up. This error code and same issue is all over GM forums. Thousands are experiencing this same issue, having to spend over $1000 to get it fixed. Ridiculous this isn’t a recall yet.
When I placed my car in park, I received a SHIFT TO PARK warning. I was unable to shut the car off. I had to return home because I was unable to leave my car. Upon returning home, I was still unable to turn off my car. I had to keep restarting, going in reverse, back in drive, then to park. Kept receiving the message for over an hour. I was trapped in my car, unable to turn it off or lock it. Took it to dealership and they are aware of the problem, but no recall has been issued. How can this be legal?? I had to repair the car due to the fact that I felt unsafe to go any where. My bumper to bumper expired in 2022 and this is not covered on the 6 year warranty. My car only has 37,196 miles. Is there anything you can do? Also if a recall is issued, will I be notified?
Shift to park will not disengage even though the car is in park. The alert will not stop sounding. Additionally, the radio and car will remain on and doors will not lock.
Two days ago I received an alert that says steering assistant reduced drive with caution then I noticed my temperature gage was all the way on cold and my a/c doesn't blow cold. My fan on the radiator blows constantly and doesn't turn off I was reading the chevy blazer forum and it seems to be a numerous amount of people with the same exact issue dating up to 4 days ago I do not see a fix for this issue. People have replaced sensors and thermostat but that does not seem to fix there issue I feel as though this is a known issue with no fix yet. Please I need some help here my warranty just ran out and I don't have $1000 to replace parts and this is my only vehicle and still owe $33,547
Hi My wife arrived home from work and put the truck in park. A message came up on the instrument panel saying shift to park and would not let her shut the vehicle off. I went out could not figure out what was going on because the truck was clearly in park. After moving the gear shift around the message went away and I was able to shut off the truck. A couple of days later when she got to work, it did it again. Moving the gear shift around turned it off. I took the truck to the dealer 10/18/23 and inquired about a recall for this because so many people are having the same issue, on several GM makes. No recall and I had to pay close to $572.99 for them to replace the gear shift assembly. We just bought the truck in Feb of 23 and paid cash. $30.000. At time of purchase the truck had 21000 miles. Today it has only 24000.
Here are the problems I've been facing: 1. Shift to Park Error: My Blazer often displays a "Shift to Park" message, even when the vehicle is already in the park position. This happens randomly and has no discernible pattern. As a result, the vehicle won't turn off, and I'm forced to repeatedly shift back and forth and apply excessive force to engage the park mode. 2. Steering Assist Reduced Message and Cold Temperature Gauge: Another recurring issue is the appearance of a "Steering Assist Reduced" message. At the same time, the temperature gauge gets stuck at the cold position, and the check engine light remains on. This seems to be a common problem among Blazer owners and requires immediate attention through a recall. 3. Fuel-Related Acceleration Problem: I've noticed a fuel-related problem that affects acceleration. The vehicle experiences sudden slowdowns, with the RPMs dropping, even when I maintain a steady throttle position. Then, out of nowhere, the Blazer regains speed and accelerates. This unpredictable behavior is dangerous and needs to be addressed immediately. 4. Random Loss of Power Steering and Power Brakes: On several occasions, my Blazer has lost power steering and power brakes without any warning. It's incredibly unnerving and puts both the driver and others on the road at risk. It's important to note that my Blazer is well-maintained and has less than 60,000 miles on it. These issues should not be happening under these circumstances. I strongly believe that these problems require the attention of the manufacturer, and I urge them to initiate recalls to rectify these safety concerns.
I took my vehicle to the dealership for the recommended oil change on 09/15/2023. I am extremely good about keeping up on the routine maintenance. Upon arrival, the technician asked if I knew that my check engine light was on. I stated no, it was not on during my drive in and has not been on previously whatsoever. I scheduled a diagnostic for 09/20/2023 and brought it back to the dealership with 68,191 being the mileage. It was determined that my thermostat needs to be replaced. I then began receiving the message Steering Assist is Reduced" which is very unsettling. I am finding that a lot of newer model 2019+ Chevy Blazer owners are struggling with the exact same temperature issue, even those with way fewer mileage than mine for example a person who just had 25K on theirs. This needs to be taken more seriously / addressed further by the manufacturer.
When the vehicle has physically shifted to park and the push to start/stop has been engaged, the dashboard will light up that the vehicle needs to be shifted into park.
After shifting into park the DIC comes on and says shift into park. At first I was able to reset the transmission into drive and back to park and it would reset the DIC. However, today I was at a loss as what to do as it would not reset and the lights and horn were in a warning mode. Finally, I set the parking brake and the DIC message went off. I have not gone to the dealer but will make an appointment to do so. Our 2019 Blazer only has 18,500 miles on it when this happened. I have seen several complaints of this type when researching the problem. No simple solutions were offered other than a trip to dealer for an expensive fix.
The temperature gage on the dashboard was reading zero and the steering assist reduced message came on. The temperature gage and thermostat were replaced under warranty
When shifting to Park, and pressing the button to turn the car off, received an error "Shift to Park" despite being in Park and the car would not turn off. When researching the issue, many others have reported the same issues with other models of Chevrolet and GM vehicles. This is a known issue and GM has issued a service bulletin, but not a recall. I went to Reedman Toll Chevrolet in Langhorne, PA where I purchased the vehicle. They are also familiar with this issue as many others have experienced the same error. This was also an expensive fix for me out of pocket. It cost $660.
Can will not turn off. States shift into park when the car is in park
Vehicle not turning off. Switch to Park and vehicle prompts to switch to park. States vehicle is not in park. Gear selector switch is illuminated in P. Faulty transmission control switch.
When I shift my car to park and turn it off the dashboard will alert me and say I need to shift to park. The car doesn’t recognize I just shifted into it, but it automatically unlocks my doors so part of it knows I’m in park. I’m not sure if I let my foot off the brake if it’ll start rolling & I haven’t attempted since it’s usually in my garage. It is currently at the Chevy Dealer to be “analyzed” but it seems to be a known problem they don’t want to recall.
Shift to park has came on the dash. Can not shut the car off. This will mean I will have to unplug the battery and not be able to lock the car. This is the first that it has occurred. Will have to schedule an appointment with the dealership on Monday.
I leased this car October 2019 and I had to tow the car to the dealership on December 12, 2019 for an electrical issue, as the car would not start. In June 2023 with 35,700 miles, I was driving the car when an error messages flashed on the dashboard. First message was to put the car in shift/neutral and immediately I was unable to move the shifter, the break got hard under my foot and the car "STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD". Then it kept flashing the following messages "SERVICE ESC" and "INFORMATION - ALL WHEEL DRIVE OFF" and the starter light remained "GREEN". I towed the car to the dealership, however, it took them a week to check the car and as a result the battery died and they missed the "Error Messages and CODES". Without the accurate codes, I was told I had to replace the battery and starter. When I picked up the car the air condition wasn't working, so I had to replace the compressor!!! I was very afraid to drive the car and I had it parked at home for some time. My husband and friends kept encouraging me to drive it etc. Eventually, I gave in and I started to drive the car, but still stressed and afraid and praying the car will not shut off again. The trauma of the car stopping so suddenly in the middle of the road and there was nothing I could have done - is very SCARY. I am just thankful that I was not on a highway when this happened - I could have been killed. However, I decided to drive the car and I now have 38,119 miles on the car. I had to take it to the dealership again on October 24, 2023, as when I park the car, although the shifter is in Park, the dashboard is telling me to put in in park and the Starter button will not turn off. I was advised by the dealership that I need to change the "Shifter Assembly" No one can tell me why the car stopped while driving in the middle of the road and I do not feel safe in this car anymore. I am just changing all the parts in this car one by one!!!
When in park my car says “shift to park” when it has clearly been shifted into park. I’ve read forums and it’s the same issue for many Chevrolet cars
When I shift to park it doesn't recognize its in park along with extreme stutter of the transmission when accelerating this could be dangerous as it could result in a accident.
When I put my car in park and shut it off, a message pops up “shift in park” !!
The vehicle will not shut off when placed into Park. A message is displayed saying Shift to Park and I have to try jiggling and slamming the shifter to hopefully get the car to turn off. I have found that this is a known issue by GM as documented in GM Service Bulletin 19-NA-206 Of course this problem started after the GM Warranty had expired and now I am being forced to pay hundreds of dollars to get it repaired when this is a basic design flaw My car is scheduled to go into the local dealer for repair on 11/16/23 as the problem has worsened over time and now I fear not being able to turn off and lock my car
Shift car to park keeps showing up even though I am in park.
when I put it in parking it does not recognize and the car is unable to turn off
This is less an incident and more like a concern. I noticed a slight shudder upon accelerating. It started at lower speeds, approximately 25-30 mph, and shifting between second and third gear. Now with daily driving, the shudder has progressively gotten worse. It now happens at higher speeds, approximately 50-55 mph, and has become more violent. There is also now an acceleration and deceleration issue whether my foot is on the accelerator or I have the vehicle on cruise control. After some research, reading several service bulletins and forum posts, I have learned that the problem component is the torque converter in the transmission. Chevrolet is aware of the problem and has issued a service bulletin, PIP560C, recommending a drain and fill claiming that will fix the problem. I had this done in accordance with the bulletin, and it only made the problem worse. After talking with more than one mechanic, I was told that if this problem is not fixed, the vehicle could stall and the transmission could lock/seize up. This could present a safety issue by posing a potential cause of an accident if the vehicle stalls in the middle of a highway or busy street. This issue also can potentially cause further transmission failure.
When Driving the vehicle, usually around 1500 rpm, you feel the transmission start to stutter, and during this stuttering, the whole car shakes violently. this violent shaking occurs on the highway with speeds of 70mph and over. the shaking causes the steering wheel and lane centering function to become disoriented, hence almost causing me to get into an accident on the highway. This is not an isolated incident for my vehicle only. I am in a chevy 2019 blazer group on facebook and dozens of members have experienced this same exact issue. the members that got it repaired had to have the entire transmission replaced. apparently it is an issue with the gears not fitting properly and grinding causing shavings to get into the the transmission fluid causing the danger. I have addressed this issue with the chevy dealership i bought it from but the refused to document it or take accountability for the issue.
My complaint is with the standard HID headlights in the 2019 Blazer and the very poor mounting system. The headlights are mounted TOO LOW to be effective in lighting the roadway, particularly where no shoulder stripping is on the roadway. Too, at unlighted intersections the lighting so poor that safe left or right turns cannot be accomplished. The HID lights themselves are a poor design in that they do not offer any useable peripheral lighting to add vision to the road shoulders. Due to the low mounting, the HID do not adequately shine light onto the road surface. Rather the available light shines across the surface and not down on it had the lights been mounted at the top of the fenders as most lights are mounted and designed. This has been an ongoing issue with the vehicle since purchasing the car new in November of 2018.
My vehicle will not shut off when I push engine stop. It tells me a Shift to Park issue. I’m very concerned
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the engine remained idling; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact was able to navigate the vehicle off the roadway. The check engine warning light then illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the connecting transmission coolant hose had disconnected due to a missing clip, and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
Steering assistance reduced drive with care! Will not let engine warm up. GMC does not know what is causing this to million of cars. Could evently blow engine and or cause a fatal wreck
I am experiencing the well know “shift to park” issue. When I move the shifter to the park position and turn off the vehicle, I receive a message stating “shift to park” and I’m unable to fully power the car off or lock the doors. This is only overcome by trying to wiggle the shifter. The issue is intermittent and the remedy is not always successful. It seems to be happening more frequently. The issue began around 40,000 miles. I have contacted the dealership to diagnose the issue but the repair has not been completed yet.
The front passenger seat belt was not clicking in. There was no damage done to the seat belt it just stopped working. The car is only 3 years old the seatbelt should not fail this is a safety issue. I had to pay $366 to fix it at the dealer. They said it was no longer under warranty and since there was not a recall they would not pay for it.
Shift To Park message displays while vehicle is already in Park! Incident began increasing in frequency in late 2022 . Vehicle would not Shut Off! Bulletin on problem came out in 2019, Chevy did not inform me of this Safety issue , Grandchildren in vehicle at least 2 times . Chevy charged me for the fix , Chevy was aware of problem before warranty expired !
The esc warning light comes in drains the battery from 14.3 down to 11.5 volts when auto stop kicks on. Gm has a recall on other vehicles for the same issue but my car is not listed
Initially received Stabilitrak dash warning when brakes were applied for longer than 30 seconds (ie., stop light) for several days with no SEL. Then, while driving along a secondary highway at approximately 60mph, all dash lights lit up, power steering failed, power brake assist failed, and vehicle started stumbling. Pulled to side of road and vehicle shut off. Performed restart and was able to complete drive home (approx 3 miles). Upon arrival and shutting off vehicle, all dash lights illuminated then shut off. Vehicle would not start after (no click, no turnover, indicating failed battery). Attempted to charge/maintain battery but battery charger indicated sulfated battery. Multimeter showd 7.5V. Replaced battery and car started normally but all computer functions were reset to factory defaults. The failure of the power steering and brakes due to a faulty battery is an extreme safety issue. The fact that the battery is only 3 years old and internally corroded to the point it can't be charged is both disappointing and an additional safety hazard.
This is a safety issue in that the shifter wire harness malfunctions and will not let the electrical system to confirm that the car is in park and won’t let it cut off. I have had this repaired once, and it is now beginning to show the same thing. 1) you can’t cut the car off. 2). Letting it run until the automatic cut-off kicks in can run the battery down. 3)you can shut it off in neutral, but the key alarm sounds the entire time and if the parking brake does not hold, it can roll. Leaving a car unlocked can lead to theft, but it also can lead to someone getting into your car for other reasons.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that after shifting into park(P), a message displayed to “Shift to Park”. The contact stated he attempted to shifting to another gear however, the vehicle inadvertently shut off. The contact stated that he shifted into park(P) and set the parking brake before turning off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact was also informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
My 2019 blazer when stopped and put into the park position would say on the dash shift into park so you didn’t know if it was in park or not , also it would not turn off the motor would stop but none of the electric would turn off until the battery ran down . Not knowing if your car is in park or not is a big safety issue and GM is well aware of this problem on many of its vehicles .
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that upon driving into a parking space and placing the vehicle into park(P), the vehicle independently accelerated into a building. The air bags deployed upon impact. The contact was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor scrapes and bruises. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent collision center for repair. The contact was informed that a couple of bricks on the building were damaged due to the collision. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.
Shift to park message comes on DIC. Sometimes can't shut vehicle off. Have to move shifter several times so message will disappear
Intermittent shift to park When vehicle is in park instrument Panel says shift to park Car honks lights blink Very dangerous not sure what to do
Hesitates between 1 and second gear. Also makes an electrical humming sound
The sensor or cable mechanism that tells the vehicle when it has been put in park is malfunctioning. It is not allowing me to park the vehicle correctly and forcing me to start and stop the car multiple times before registering that it is in park. Sometimes getting very frustrated and slamming into Park. I have seen many complaints about this error. The vehicle has less than 65,000 miles. This needs to be looked into and fixed by a recall. We've been very loyal to the Chevy brand and I believe we should not have to pay for the cheap part GM used and should not be failing within 3 years of purchasing the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. The contact stated that whenever it rained, water would leak into the vehicle from the gasket around the sunroof. The headliner would catch the water and disperse water down the interior pillars, forming puddles in the front and rear passenger’s floorboards. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The TBS sensor or switch that tells the vehicle when it has been put in park is malfunctioning. It is not allowing me to park the vehicle correctly and forcing me to start and stop the car multiple times before registering that it is in park. Also, while driving it causes the doors to lock or unlock due to sensing the vehicle is in park or not. To my knowledge this is a widespread issue with GM from 2013-2020. The vehicle has less than 70,000 miles and should not be creating a safety concern for my wife or baby. This needs to be looked into and fixed via a recall. The consumer should not have to pay for the cheap part GM used and should not be failing within 3 years of purchasing the vehicle.
