QUITE OFTEN, WHEN I DRIVE THROUGH A PUDDLE, I LOOSE MY POWER STEERING FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS MAKES TURNING VERY DIFFICULT AND SOMETIMES SCARY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME MANY TIMES, TODAY BEING THE MOST RECENT.
STABILITY CONTROL AND BREAK WARNING CONSTANTLY..HAD BREAKS COMPLETELY REPAIRED TWICE WITHIN THE 2 YEARS OF PURCHASING IT..ONLY HAS 160,000 MILES. LIGHTING WIRING ISSUE MALFUNCTION.

MY TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND SOMETHING IS CRACK1
THE KEY WON'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION 3/4 OF THE TIME. HAD GEAR SHIFT REPLACED A YEAR AGO AND FIXED PROBLEM. STARTED BACK UP MONTHS AGO AND THE CHEVY DEALER WON'T REPLACE WITHOUT ANOTHER $800.00. TOOK IT FOR OTHER OPINIONS AND EVERYONE SAYS GEAR SHIFT. POWER STAYS ON WHEN KEY IS STRUCK SO CAN'T JUST LEAVE IT. HAVE TO MOVE GEAR SHIFT BACK AND FORTH, RESTART, MOVE GEAR SHIFT AGAIN AND KEEP REPEATING TILL KEY COMES OUT. UP TO 8 TIMES, SO FAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING A LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL WITHIN 1,000 MILES WELL BELOW THE 3,000 MILE NORMAL CHECKUP PERIOD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A 20,000 MILE EXTENSION OF THE MANUFACTURER'S 100,000 MILE WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE REASON FOR THE EXCLUSION HAD TO DO WITH WHERE THE ENGINE PARTS WERE SUPPLIED FROM, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE IN THE CAPTIVA WAS THE SAME AS THE OTHER VEHICLES INCLUDED IN THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. THE DEALER (CHAPMAN CHEVROLET, 1717 E BASELINE RD, TEMPE, AZ 85283, (480) 838-1234) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
RADIO WOULD TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL MESSAGE LIGHT AND CHIMES, WOULD GO OFF, INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD DIM OUT VEHICLE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START, ENGINE LIGHT WOULD NOT STAY ON HOWEVER WAS ABLE TO GET AUTO STORE TO PULL CODES WHEN LIGHT WAS ON. TALKED TO DEALERSHIP ADVISED TO REPLACE BATTERY AND KEY FOB AS ONE CODE HAD TO DO WITH VEHICLE THINKING WRONG KEY WAS USED. REPLACED BATTERY AND KEY FOBS SEEMED TO BE OKAY FOR 2 MONTHS. THEN TODAY WHEN PUTTING WINDOW DOWN TO GET MAIL THE RADIO TURNED OFF, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROLS LIGHTS STARTED GOING OFF AGAIN AND AIR BLOWER CUT OUT (THIS STARTED WHEN VEHICLE PUT IN PARK) NOTICED WHEN THIS WAS HAPPENING THAT VOLTAGE ON BATTERY WOULD DROP. TOOK TO AUTO STORE AND THEY CHECKED BATTERY IT WAS FINE. BUT WHEN AIR WAS ON AND WINDOW WOULD BE PUT DOWN IT WOULD RECREATE THE SAME PROBLEM (VEHICLE WAS IN PARK). AUTO STORE SAID COULD BE A SHORT. AFTER TESTING BATTERY AND IT WAS GOOD THE AIR WAS TURNED OFF AND WINDOW BEING PUT DOWN WOULD NOT CAUSE ANY ISSUES. ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN AIR WAS ON. THERE SEEMS TO BE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THESE TYPES OFF ELECTRICAL OCCURRENCES FOR THIS VEHICLE TYPE. ALSO HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH A SURGE WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE. HAD DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION AND POWER TRAIN THINGS LOOKED AT FROM DEALERSHIP THAT HAVE IMPROVED IT BUT NOT FULLY CORRECTED. SEEMS TO HAVE GOTTEN EVEN A LITTLE BETTER AFTER BATTERY REPLACED BUT STILL OCCURS TO THE POINT WHERE IT SHIFTS HARD AND SURGES THE CAR FORWARD.
ONE DAY MY HEAT AND AIR MODULE JUST QUIT WORKING AND THE DASH BOARD READS -40 FOR THE OUTSIDE TEMP. SO NOW THERE IS NO HEAT NO DEFROST OR AIR.
THE KEY CONTINUALLY GOTTEN STUCK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RELEASE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT HAD TO WIGGLE THE KEY TO REMOVE IT FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONTACT ALSO WANTED TO ADVISE THAT WHEN THE KEY DID NOT RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION, THE CONTACT HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO BE ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CARIBBEAN AUTO MART (4523 CHARLOTTE AMALIE STREET SAINT THOMAS, VA 00802, (340)777-7600) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING FOUND A FAILURE CODE AT THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY CONNECTIONS. HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOT CERTAIN THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST LOCATED THE CORRECT FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,359.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CAPTIVA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE KEPT SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN COLD STARTED FROM A PARKED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO FAILURE COULD BE FOUND. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
STOPPED RUNNING SUDDENLY.I HAD DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE AND IT WAS RUNNING FINE. SHUT IT OFF CAME BACK IN ABOUT 4 HOURS AND IT WOULD NOT START. HAD IT TOWED TO GARAGE FOR REPAIRS...TIMING BELT BROKEN AT APPROX 100,000 MILE.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON MARCH 2, 2018. WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE, IT HAS HAD A CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED (WITHIN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS). ON JUNE 11, 2018, THE VEHICLE CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A BROKEN TIMING CHAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 95,000 MILES ON AT THE TIME. I PURCHASED IT WITH 92,500 ON IT. A WEEK AND A HALF LATER I HAD TO RETURN THE VEHICLE FOR ANOTHER REPAIR WITH THE VALVES DEALING WITH THE TIMING BELT. THE VEHICLE IS NOW BACK IN THE SHOP AND HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH AN ENGINE CAMSHAFT/EXHAUST PROBLEM DUE TO IT CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE CUT OFF AT LEAST 9 TIMES WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC.
THIS CAR HAS SO MANY ELECTRICAL CODES WHEN TESTED. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS AND HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THE CAR A YEAR. WHY HADN'T GM DID A RECALL ON THESE CARS. PLEASE HELP ALL OF US WHO HAVE THIS CAR. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND WOULD LIKE A ANSWER TO WHY THERE ISNT A RECALL WITH SO MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS!
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 40 IN OK AT 70 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTING DOING STRANGE THINGS. AT FIRST EVERY TIME YOU ENABLED THE TURN SIGNAL IT WOULD DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES LATER THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN A MESSAGE APPEARED STATING A FAULT WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL AND THEN WITHIN A FEW MORE MINUTES THE ENGINE FAULT LIGHT CAME ON, THEN THE RADIO WENT OFF AND THE CLOCK DISPLAY WENT AWAY. WE PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AT A MCDONALD'S AND WHEN I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF I COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL WOULD NOT OPERATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. AT THIS POINT WE DECIDED TO HAVE BREAKFAST BEFORE CALLING A TOW SERVICE. WHEN WE FINISHED WITH BREAKFAST WE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED. THE ENGINE FAULT LIGHT WAS STILL ON FOR A FEW MILES AND THEN WENT OUT AND EVERY THINK WORKED PROPERLY FOR THE REMAINING 1000 MILES OF THE TRIP TO PA.. THE NEXT DAY I SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO FIND SOME INFO ON THIS PROBLEM. THERE WERE MANY 2012 CAPTIVE OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING WITH THE BATTERY CABLING. THE ONLY THING THAT APPEARED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM WAS CHANGING OUT THE CABLING TO THE BATTERY OR ADDING AN ADDITIONAL GROUND CABLE FROM THE BATTERY TO THE ENGINE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, VEHICLE LOST POWER STRANDING ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE RADIO WILL SHUT OFF & ALL LIGHTS ON RADIO WILL GO OUT. AFTER SOME TIME APPROX. 3 TO 15 MINUTES THE RADIO WILL COME BACK ON BY ITSELF. THE AIR CONDITIONER FAN WOULD BE BLOWING ON HIGH AND SUDDENLY DROP TO A LOW SETTING AND THEN COME BACK ON IN A FEW ABOUT ABOUT 20 SEC. THESE PROBLEMS BECAME SIMULTANEOUS ALONG WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT COMING ON, BOTH THE RED & AMBER EMERGENCY INDICATOR LIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND SAID THERE WERE BULLETINS WRITTEN ON THIS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THE FIX IS A NEW ALTERNATOR AND ALL NEW BATTERY CABLES ALL THE WAY AROUND, WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE COST WOULD BE $990. I HAVE JUST FINISHED PAYING $776 FOR AN AIR CONDITIONING TENSIONER BELT INSTALLATION BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING SIGNIFICANTLY AND MAKING LOUD NOISES. THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE DISASSEMBLED FOR ACCESS. MY CAR HAS 45,306 MILES ON IT AND IT ALSO REQUIRED A TRANSMISSION AT 30,000 MILES, WHICH GM INSTALLED FREE. I AM CONVINCED THE ELECTRICAL SUB SYSTEM IN THIS CAR IS OF POOR DESIGN.
BOUGHT LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. PUT KEY IN, ACTS LIKE A DEAD BATTERY. CANNOT TAKE KEY OUT OF IGNITION. TOOK BATTERY TO BE CHECKED BATTERY IS FINE. HAD TO JUMP START IT TWICE. NO REASON WHY IT'S BEEN SO RANDOM BOTH TIMES CAR WAS PARKED LESS THAN AN HOUR.
KEY GETS STUCK AND WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AND GO .IF YOU CAN GET CAR TO TURN OFF IT WON'TSTART BACK UP.
AFTER STARTING THE CAPTIVA THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE CAPTIVA IS IN PARK AND STATIONARY IN THE DRIVEWAY. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. IN THE PAST I WAS ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAPTIVA AND SHIFTED FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK AND THE KEY RELEASED. BUT NOT THIS TIME, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I REPEATED THE ABOVE TACTIC.
STABILITRAK SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON YESTERDAY. THEN THIS MORNING, THE PARKING BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT. ANYTIME I APPLIED THE BRAKE, MY SHIFTER WOULD CLICK LOUDLY. ANYTIME I WENT OVER 20 MPH, THE CARE WOULD REV LIKE IT WAS HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE SHIFTING. TWICE IT WOULDN'T GO RIGHT AWAY EVEN IF I WAS HARD OR EASY ON THE GAS AND I ALMOST GOT HIT FROM BEHIND IN TRAFFIC. THE D SYMBOL ON DASH WOULD EVEN FLICKER. THIS CAR HAS HAD SO MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE ISN'T FURTHER RECALLS!
MANY TIMES THIS CAR HAS JUST DIED WHILE DRIVING. OIL AND BATTERY ARE GOOD. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. THERE NOW SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH A FUEL PUMP OR SENSOR CAUSING THE CAR TO DIE. I AM TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC THIS WEEK. CURRENTLY NOT DRIVEABLE. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS OUT OF THIS CAR. GREAT LOOK ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT IT BEING A GENERAL MOTORS CAR, THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS. I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THIS BY NOW. I WILL DO MY BEST TO FILE COMPLAINTS AND SUBMIT PROOF. NOT A DURABLE CAR.
GM HAS A CAMPAIGN TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSED MINE.BASICALLY OIL IS BYPASSED IN LARGE VOLUME TO THE ENGINE INTAKE BECAUSE THE PASSAGES ARE UNDERSIZED FOR PCV SYSTEM. THIS IS SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT 14882 BY GM. PCV VALVE REPLACED AND PASSAGES ENLARGED
IGNITION LOCKS UP AND WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO START CAR. CANNOT REMOVE KEY. CANNOT TURN KEY. CANNOT MOVE SHIFTER. CAR IS ALWAYS IN A LOT WHEN IT HAPPENS. CALLED ROAD SERVICE ONCE. HAVE SINCE PURCHASED A BATTERY BOOSTER. THE BOOSTER IS NOT NEEDED TO START CAR. JUST TOUCH CABLES TO BATTERY POSTS AND DASH LIGHTS UP AND CAR WILL START WITYH ITS OWN BATTERY WHICH IS NEW. NOW BEGINNING TO HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.
KEY WON'T COME OUT OF IGNITION, CAR IN PARK, RUNNING LIGHTS ON. THIS IS THE 2ND OCCURANCE. GM CHARGED ME $250 TO FIX IT IN SEPTEMBER DESPITE MY PROTEST THAT, AS DEMONSTRATED BY ALL THE COMPLAINTS, THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW!!!
KEY WILL NOT TURN IN WHEN INSERTED INTO TUMBLER. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, SHIFTER LOCKED. KEY OCCASIONALLY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION SWITCH. VEHICLE STATIONARY. PROBLEM HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY; SOMETIMES WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN; SOMETIMES WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED FOR A SHORT TIME (5-10 MINUTES); SOMETIMES WHEN VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT. MAKES NO DIFFERENCE IF VEHICLE IS LEVEL OR ON A GRADE (UP OR DOWN.) SAFETY ISSUE IF KEYS CANNOT BE REMOVED. SAFETY ISSUE IF VEHICLE CANNOT TO STARTED.
TRANSITIONING FROM LOW BEAM TO HIGH BEAM WOULD CAUSE RADIO AND ASSOCIATED CONTROLS/DISPLAY TO GO OUT COMPLETELY. FIX PARKING BREAK AND ONBOARD EMISSIONS CONTROL SENSOR LIGHT WOULD GO ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL WEEKS, SOMETIMES FLICKERING AND OTHER TIMES STAYING ON FOR A FEW HOURS. DROVE CAR 1.5 HRS AND TURNED OFF FOR 1/2 HR, WHEN CAME BACK IT WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. FEW MIN LATER IT STARTED. WHEN BROUGHT TO DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THERE WERE 18 ERROR CODES AND 1 WAS FOR ECM AND 1 FOR BCM. THEY REPLACED BOTH. CAR WAS 100% FINE FOR 6 DAYS. THEN, CRUISE CONTROL WOULD TURN OFF WHEN A CALL CAME IN OVER BLUETOOTH, RADIO AND ASSOCIATED CONTROLS AND DISPLAY WOULD GO OUT COMPLETELY WHEN USING TURN SIGNAL. VARIOUS DASH PANEL LIGHTS WOULD COME ON SIGNIFYING REPAIRS NEEDED. A COUPLE TIMES CAR WOULDN'T START - WAS 100% DEAD - COULDN'T EVEN OPEN TRUNK, DOOR LOCKS OR GET LIGHTS TO COME ON. KEY WOULD BE STUCK IN THE ON POSITION AND I COULDN'T GET IT OUT. AFTER ABOUT 45 MIN POWER RANDOMLY TURNED ON.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AAA WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ELECTRICITY WAS NOT BEING APPLIED TO THE BATTERY. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT MIDWAY CHEVROLET (2323 W BELL RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85023) WHERE NO DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE CODES WERE FOUND AND THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
INTERMITTENTLY THEN PANEL LIGHTS COME ON (TRACTION CONTROL, CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS) TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WORK, . YOU LOSE POWER TO CAR AND CANNOT EVEN TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. AFTER SOME TIME, YOU CAN FINALLY GET THE KEY OUT. SOMETIMES IT'S MINUTES, SOMETIMES IT'S HOURS. THIS STARTED HAPPENING A FEW WEEKS AGO, HAPPENING FEW TIMES A WEEK. NOW, IT'S HAPPENING DAILY, EVEN FEW TIMES A DAY. WE FOUND A CHEVY FORUM ONLINE AND SHOCKINGLY THIS IS HAPPENING TO 2012 CAPTIVA'S. WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL? THIS CAN BE FATAL TO LOSE POWER TO THE CAR IF WE ARE ON THE HIGHWAY AND LOSE FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES WHEN I GO TO START THE CAR NOTHING HAPPENS AND I CAN'T GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION.
APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO THE FRONT MAIN SEALS ON THE CAR WENT BAD DURING COLD WEATHER. ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE HAD NEGATIVE TEMPERATURES THAT THIS TIME MADE THE REAR MAIN SEALS GO BAD IN THIS CAR. THE MANUFACTURE WARRANTY RUNS OUT 1/29/2018 I PURCHASED THE CAR ON 1/29/2013 ME BEING THE SECOND OWNER THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE TO ME. I PURCHASED WHAT WAS TO BE AN EXTENDED MECHANICAL WARRANTY AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, AND TO MY DISAPPOINTMENT THE DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A GAP WARRANTY WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY USELESS TO ME THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED. THIS PROBLEM BEING COLD WEATHER RELATED YOUR HAVE RECALLED SEVERAL IN THE COLDER NORTHERN STATES. I AM ASKING THAT YOU PLEASE CONSIDER THIS TO BE RECALLED IN MY STATE AS WELL. -15 AND -8 IS A VERY WET COLD FOR THIS ARE CAUSING CONDENSATION ON THE SEALS CAUSING THEM TO GO BAD SHOULD NOT BE MY FAULT BUT A MANUFACTURE FAULT. I WOULD APPRECIATE ALL CONSIDERATION FOR THIS. FOR THIS TO BE DONE IS A $1,439.00 DOLLAR VALUE, FOR A SINGLE MOTHER WITH NO OTHER INCOME IS VERY DIFFICULT AND A HARDSHIP TO MANAGE.SO I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER.

THE DEALER (BILLION AUTO CHEVROLET BUICK GMC OF CLINTON (2421 LINCOLN HWY, CLINTON, IA 52732, (563) 241-3750) WAS CONTACTED AND INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM ANY RECALL CAMPAIGNS AND SUGGESTED THAT THE DEALER REPLACE THE PART. THERE WERE 118 TSBS FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE OUTER FINISH PANEL BROKE AND NOW THE SEAT DOESN'T MOVE TO AJUST SO IT'S VERY HARD TO GET IN AND OUT .
AT RUSH HOUR , THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON AND THE CAR STOPS DEAD. NO POWER AT ALL. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD, BUT IT WAS DARK AND WITH NO ELECTRICAL WORKING, COULD NOT USE THE FLASHERS. WAS ALMOST HIT SEVERAL TIMES BY UNCARING DRIVERS. EVEN YELLED AT. NO POWER TO THE CAR AT ALL.
THE IGNITION SWITCH WON'T TURN COMPLETELY OFF AND THE KEYS WON'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. GM PUBLISHED A LETTER AND HAS FIXED OTHER VEHICLES, BUTSOME HAVE HAD TO PAY THE COST. THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM, IT CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR MARE THAN A YEAR.
NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING OIL AT A HIGH RATE. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THIS IS A "KNOWN" PROBLEM WITH CHEVY CAPTIVA'S, THAT THE OIL BURNING WILL MELT THE PISTONS INTO THE PARTS BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT. LOCATED BULLETIN 13-06-01-003F-EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION UNDER THE GM WEBSITE BUT THEY STATE IT DOESN'T COVER MY VIN#. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY GM HOW CAN IT SELECT WHICH VEHICLES TO FIX.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK ON HIGHWAY 1 SOUTH TOWARD HARRISBURG AR AND I STARTED SMELLING SMOKE AND NOTICED IT COMING FROM VENTS. AFTER I GOT OUT OF MY CAR , FLAMES ENGULFED AND TOTALED MY CAR COMPLETELY.
PARKING LIGHT COMES ON AND RADIO TURNS OFF EXCEPT FOR THE CLOCK, THEN TURNS BACK ON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE, WENT OFF WHEN HIGH BEAMS TURNED ON. USING THE TURNING SIGNAL DISABLES THE CRUISE CONTROL. TODAY ON THE WAY TO WORK, THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AFTER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. CHECKING THE VOLTS ON THE DASH AND IT SHOWS THEY ARE LOW. CAR HAS BEEN TRAVELING FOR 25 MINUTES, SO ALTERNATOR SHOULD HAVE CHARGED BATTERY. GET TO WORK AND THE VOLTS ARE BACK UP TO 13.8 BUT BATTERY LIGHT STILL ON. THIS IS ONE WEEK AFTER THE CAR JUST STOPPED ( IN THE ROAD) AND NOTHING WORKED AND THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. CAR REPAIR REPLACED FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD THEN A MODUAL IN THE CONSOLE. CAR WAS GREAT FOR 5 DAYS, NOW NEW ISSUES HAPPENING AND SOME OF THE OLD ( RADIO AND CRUSE) CAR HAS 56000 MILES.
HAVE OWNED THE CAR LESS THAN 1 YEAR, IT HAS 57000 ON IT.. STARTED WITH TURNING SIGNAL DISENGAGING THE CRUISE CONTROL. THEN LIGHTS COMING ON THE DASH AND THE RADIO GOING OFF. THEN HAVING IGNITION CHIME COMING ON AND THE CAR SLOWING LIKE IT WOULD STALL. DOOR LOCKS GOING UP AND DOWN AND THE CAR FEEL LIKE IT WOULD STALL, IT FINALLY DIED IN A PARKING LOT. COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FORM THE IGNITION. GOT TO THE DEALER.. CHANGED A FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. . TWO DAYS LATER, IT JUST STOPPED BUT I HAD ELECTRIC TO RESTART. TOWED AGAIN. GM DEALER WAS GREAT AT TRYING TO FIX THIS. REPLACED A MODUAL IN THE CONSOLE OF THE CAR BY SHIFTING LEVER. CAR WAS GREAT FOR 3 DAYS, THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WENT OFF, PARKING BREAK LIGHT CAME ON AND RADIO WENT OFF.. THEN BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS REGISTERING LOW VOLTAGE. IT IS STILL AT THE GM DEALER, THEY HAVE HAD IT HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER FOR 3 DAYS AND CAN NOT FIND THE CAUSE.. NICE CAR TO DRIVE WHEN IT IS RUNNING, BUT NOT RELIABLE...
PROBLEMS STARTED WITH RADIO GOING OFF. THEN LIGHTS DIMMING WHEN USING THE WINDOW SWITCH. THEN WHILE USING THE TURNING SIGNAL, THE CRUSE WOULD SHUT OFF. THEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING THEN SEEMED TO TURN OFF. THE CAR SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER. THE BREAK LIGHT WOULD COME ON THEN GO OFF. THE SEAT BELT LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE. THE WARNING BELL THAT SOUNDS WHILE THE KEY IS IN IGNITION WOULD GO OFF AND MESSAGES WOULD FLASH ACROSS THE RADIO AND THE INFORMATION ON THE DASH WOULD SCROLL WITH OUT YOU SCROLLING THEM. TODAY THE CAR DECELERATED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE CAR LOCKS WENT UP AND DOWN. ON THE WAY HOME, THE CAR WAS DEAD AND I COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY. CALLED A TOW, THEY JUMPED THE CAR, IT STARTED. ON THE WAY TO THE REPAIR GARAGE, THE CAR DIED IN THE ROAD. CALLED FOR A SECOND TOW, BUT WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR BY HITTING THE EXTERNAL FUSE BOX. GOT IT TO THE GARAGE AND IT IS THERE TODAY.
VEHICLE IS PUT IN PARK AND I TRY TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF POSITION BUT THE KEY WILL NOT TURN TO OFF POSITION SO KEY CAN BE REMOVED. FURTHERMORE, GM KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAS FAILED TO PLACE MY MODEL ON THE RECALL LIST ACCORDING TO INQUIRES THAT I HAVE MADE. I ALSO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, PROTECTIVE ASSET THAT WAS PURCHASED FROM PURCHASE DEALER, BUT THEY WILL NOT COVER JUST THE IGNITION SWITCH. I NEED GM TO ISSUE A RECALL ON MY MODEL, CHEVY CAPTIVA.

ONCE WAS ON A HILL TURNING ONTO THE ROAD BEFORE MY HOME AND THE SECOND TIME WAS PULLING INTO MY APARTMENT COMPLEX. IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY OR THERE WAS A CAR COMING OVER THE HILL I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT. LATELY THE PARKING BREAK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON AND GOING OFF, ALSO I'VE HAD TIMES WHEN I'D GO TO START MY VEHICLE IT WOULD ACT AS IF THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED A YEAR TO YEAR AND A HALF AGO SO I DON'T SUPPOSE THAT'S THE PROBLEM. ALSO THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS OFTEN FLICKER. THE AIR BAG SERVICE LIGHT HAS GONE OFF INDICATING THAT IT CAN EITHER NOT INFLATE IN AN ACCIDENT OR IT CAN INFLATE ON IT'S OWN. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT CANNOT BE PREVENTED BY PROPER MAINTAINENCE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 49K MILES ON IT.

IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DISENGAGE OR DISPLAY A FUEL PUMP ERROR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000.
