I BOUGHT THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO. I NOTICED THAT THE CAR STALLS MOSTLY WHEN THE TEMP OUTSIDE IS AROUND THE SINGLE DIGITS. DOESNT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, AND SOMETIMES WHEN THE TEMP ISNT THAT LOW. UNFORTUNATELY I STILL HAVE TO WORK AND I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ONE MORNING, THE CAR STALLED ON AND ICY ROAD AND I ENDED UP IN A SNOW BANK. THE CAR OF COURSE STARTED RIGHT BACK UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG AND RAN FOR A COUPLE WEEKS WITH OUT A PROBLEM. I HAVE A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STALLING, I EVEN HAD A NEW ENGINE PUT IN BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM WHEN I COULDNT START MY CAR AT ALL ONE DAY AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A SHOP. NOT EVEN A WEEK AFTER THE NEW ENGINE, THE CAR BEGAN STALLING AGAIN, SHOWING UP WITH POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHTS AND MY MPH GAUGE WENT HAYWIRE. IRONICALLY, SOMETIME AROUND THIS WHOLE PROBLEM, THE RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH CAME OUT. *TR
SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MAY OF 2011 I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. IN MARCH OF 2012 MY FUEL PUMP WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DUE TO A RECALL FROM SEVERAL YEARS EARLIER, WHICH I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WASN'T REPLACED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR ESPECIALLY IF I BOUGHT IF FROM A DEALERSHIP. IN JANUARY OF 2013 MY GEAR SHIFT ASSEMBLY WENT OUT LUCKILY AFTER I WAS DONE DRIVING AND IN THE PROCESS OF PARKING WHICH RESULTED IN MY KEYS GETTING LOCKED IN THE IGNITION. A MONTH LATER MY SWITCH BOARD STOPPED WORKING IN MY STEERING WHEEL WHICH TURNS OFF MY SIGNALS WHEN I TURN AND MY KEYS STILL OCCASIONALLY GET LOCKED IN MY IGNITION. MY O2 SENSOR JUST WENT OUT, SHORTLY AFTER I GOT THE CAR I LEARNED ONE OF MY VALVE COVERS IS LEAKING OIL, AND I JUST REPLACED MY IGNITION COIL PACK! I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR ANY LONGER ESPECIALLY WITH THE NEW RECALL ABOUT THE IGNITION. THIS CAR IS A HAZARD TO ANYONE DRIVING IT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS MANY ISSUES WHEN I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR THREE YEARS. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD RECALL THE WHOLE CAR. I TRIED TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN FEBRUARY TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY SENT ME AWAY AND SAID TO WAIT TO RECEIVE SOMETHING IN THE MAIL TO SEE IF MY CAR QUALIFIES. SERIOUSLY??? I'M NOT SURE WHAT ACTIONS I SHOULD TAKE TO ENSURE MY SAFETY. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS CAR THAT HAS EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD FAILING ALL AT ONCE! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND BATTERY LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BATTERY AND RELAY WERE ALSO REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,500. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I NOTICED A SLIGHT FUEL SMELL FROM THE CAR WHICH LASTED SEVERAL MONTHS. IT INCREASED TO A STRONG FUEL SMELL AND HARD COLD STARTS ALONG WITH ROUGH IDLING. IT FINALLY LED TO LEAKING FUEL. I REMOVED THE FUEL TANK AND WHILE INSPECTING IT, THE FUEL LINE FITTING BROKE OFF OF THE FUEL PUMP. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM, BUT NOT IN THE STATE I BOUGHT OR REGISTERED MY CAR IN. THIS SHOULD APPLY TO ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING) AND SINCE THE REPAIR, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO LOCK WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OFF. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE GOES IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAT IT IS BEING STEERED AND THE STEERING WHEEL CONTINUES TO TURN AS IF THERE WAS NO WHEEL BASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,400 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000.

WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN SHAKING (55MPH). GETTING OFF THE BELT LINE, TRAFFIC CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I BRAKE, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SHAKE AND DIDN'T BRAKE. HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN TRAFFIC STARTED UP, AND I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTART. CAR SHOOK BADLY FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN SEEMED FINE. A FEW DAYS LATER, DRIVING INTO MY PARKING LOT (10MPH) THE CAR'S BRAKES LOCKED UP FOR NO REASON AND I BARELY GOT IT INTO A PARKING SPACE. TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE CAR WAS PURCHASED AT AND WAS TOLD THE ROTORS, BRAKES, AND CALIPERS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HAD THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. CAR DROVE FINE. SIX WEEKS LATER, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (60 MPH), SLOWED DOWN TO TURN ONTO ANOTHER ROAD, AND BRAKES WERE OUT. HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC LOOK AT THE CAR, BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE WORN DOWN AGAIN, AS WELL AS CALIPERS AND BRAKE LINE. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR AT THE TIME OF EACH INCIDENT. *TR
HAVING MULTIPLE INCIDENTS, THE 2006 CHEVY COBALT, SHUTS OFF WHILE IN REVERSE AND STEERING LOCKS UP AT LOW SPEEDS. I CAN TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT. THE FIRST INCIDENTS WERE MAYBE ONCE A MONTH, BUT LATELY HAS HAPPENED UP TO 3-4 TIMES A WEEK. ON 7/9/13 (MILEAGE 95,755) IT CUT OFF WHILE TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC SLOWLY. THAT SCARED ME. IT IS NOW POSTING A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2010 FOR THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE MODEL OF VEHICLE. WHEN I CHATTED ONLINE WITH GM ON 7/10/2013, I WAS TOLD MY PARTICULAR VIN DID NOT HAVE ANY ACTIVE RECALLS. I AM FILING THE COMPLAINT BASED ON THE FACT THAT IT MAY NOT BE MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER, BUT THE ISSUE IS THE SAME! THERE NEEDS TO BE ADDITIONAL RESEARCH, I BELIEVE MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT HAZARDOUS MECHANICAL ISSUE! I WOULD HATE FOR IT TO HAPPEN AND CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AS I AM IN THE ATLANTA AREA!. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR PROMPTED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO MY PERSONAL MECHANIC. LEAKING FUEL MODULE CAUSED ODOR, ENTIRE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I INVESTIGATED WHY A NON-MOVING PART MIGHT FAIL AND DISCOVERED A RECALL, LIMITED TO SOUTHERN STATES. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS STONEWALLED BY [XXX], EXT 42872, WHO WAS OTHERWISE COURTEOUS. A LEAKING FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND I BELIEVE GM SHOULD: RECALL ALL MODELS AND REIMBURSE OWNERS FOR REPAIRS MADE FOR THIS DEFECT. 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HER DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. HER DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AND CONSEQUENTLY SHE HIT A RETAINER WALL. PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, THE CONSUMER STATED THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE WHEN BRAKING OR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THE DEALER STATED THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, AFTER THEY WERE REPLACED, SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED HER, THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING RACK AND CHARGED HER $868.02
SMELLED FUEL AFTER PARKING CAR. ASKED MY BROTHER-IN-LAW TO LOOK AT IT. HE SAID THAT THERE IS FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK AND DRIPPING ON THE GROUND. HE SAID TO CONTACT THE DEALER BECAUSE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP LEAKING. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE WE LIVED IN MARYLAND AND IT WOULD COST APPROX. $1000 TO FIX. THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR CERTAIN STATES. I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS SO I HAD TO NOT DRIVE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. HAD MY BROTHER-IN-LAW WHO IS A MASTER MECHANIC PURCHASED AND INSTALLED A FUEL PUMP. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINS ABOUT THIS AND GM SAID THERE WOULD BE A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR THIS, BUT THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THERE IS NOT. IS THERE A SPECIAL COVERAGE?

THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR NECK INJURIES. THE FAILURE WAS ASSESSED BY A DEALER HOWEVER, THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 102,000.
GAS SMELL COMING FROM INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, TOOK MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER GM SAID TO DO SO, THE FUEL PUMP MODULE HAS A CRACK IN IT DUE TO MANUFACTURED PARTS BEING MADE OF PLASTIC. NO HELP COVERING THE COST ALTHOUGH THERE ARE RECALLS IN SEVERAL WARM WEATHER STATES BUT NOT IN INDIANA WE HAD A VERY HOT SUMMER WHICH CAUSED PARTS TO EXPAND AND CRACK. I THINK GM SHOULD COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS, BUT THE ONLY OFFERED ME A 10% DISCOUNT! I REALLY HOPE MY VEHICLE DOESN'T CATCH ON FIRE! I AM SO DISAPPOINTED IN GM, I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE UP ON THIS I WILL KEEP COMPLAINING UNTIL SOME ONE HELPS ME COVER THE COST! *TR

HOWEVER, THE RECALL WAS LIMITED TO SELECTED STATES. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED HIS STATE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE TOP OF THE PUMP ASSEMBLY, AND THE SIDE HOSE TO THE ASSEMBLY CRACKED AND BROKE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PORT ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP CRACKED AND WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS AN OVERPOWERING ODOR OF GASOLINE IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE PORT ON THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STARTED SHUTTING DOWN, IN DECEMBER 2012. SHE HAS REPAIR BILLS TOTALING $1,354.18 FROM THE DEALER, WHO TRIED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BY REPLACING COMPONENTS THAT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AT THE TIME. *JB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). CAR STALLS DUE TO THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR DEFECT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I COME TO A STOP AND THE WEATHER IS COLD. THE CHOKE GETS STUCK IN EITHER THE OPEN OR THE CLOSED POSITION. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES ON NUMEROUS DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIPS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WHICH IS WHY THEY KEEP THE PART IN STOCK. HOWEVER CHEVY/GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS PART IS FAR TO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO REPLACE. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A HAZARD DUE TO THE VEHICLE STALLING IN MID TRAFFIC WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. I CAN KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING BY HAVING ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ONE FOOT ON THE GAS AND PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AS I COME TO A STOP. I ARRIVED AT WORK YESTERDAY ONLY TO FIND I COULDN'T EXIT MY CAR THROUGH THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I MANUALLY TRIED UNLOCKING IT, BUT IT STILL DID NOT OPEN. I PROCEEDED TO CLIMB OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF CAR FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY : FUEL PUMP BUT ONLY IF I LIVED IN ARIZONA OR NEVADA. I ALSO LOOKED UP A FEW DIFFERENT FORUMS ONLINE FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THERE WERE MANY OTHERS THAT DID NOT LIVE IN THE STATES LISTED THAT HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF LEAKAGE FOUND ON CAR UNDER BODY. SYMPTOMS MATCH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000. CAR WAS TAKEN TO TOM GILL CHEVROLET FOR REPAIR WORK WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY DUE TO A CRACKED FUEL SUPPLY/RETURN LINE ON FUEL PUMP MODULAR. UPON DISCUSSING WITH DEALERSHIP, IT AS INDICATED THIS ITEM WAS UNDER RECALL BUT IS REGION SPECIFIC. DEALERSHIP MADE COMMENTS THAT IT WAS REGIONAL DUE TO COST OF REPAIR. THIS CAR WAS MANUFACTURED WITH THE SAME COMPONENTS AS THE CARS RECALLED IN NEW MEXICO, MISSISSIPPI, CALIFORNIA, ETC. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THE CONSUME TO BEAR COST OF REPLACEMENT DUE TO REGION WHEN IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE COBALT PLATFORM. *TR
DURING A DRIVE TO WORK, APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES IN TRAVEL THERE WAS A GAS SMELL INDICATED IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE SMELL PROMPTED ME TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN GREELEY COLORADO WHERE THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND COULD CAUSE A FATAL FIRE. THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE CURRENT RECALLS AND ALL CARS IN THE 2006 - 2007 YEAR WERE RECALLED EXCEPT THIS MODEL THAT WAS SOLD IN ANOTHER STATE. HE INFORMED ME THAT I WAS TO CONTACT GM DIRECTLY, WHEN I CONTACTED GM THEY STATED THAT THIS PARTICULAR CAR WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. WHEN I MENTIONED THE OTHER RECALLS ON THE SAME COBALT CARS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE OTHER THAN DIRECT ME TO PLACE A COMPLAINT WITH THE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION. SINCE THIS CONVERSATION HAS OCCURRED I WAS INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRIVE MY CAR DUE TO THE LIKELY HOOD OF POSSIBLE FIRE, I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE TO GO TO AND FROM WORK. SINCE THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE AND OTHER MODELS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED, I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN MISTREATED AND PUT MY FAMILIES LIVES AT RISK DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL.
