TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AT NIGHT THE VEHICLES POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. A DIGITAL CHECK POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT WERE NOT SURE WHICH VEHICLES WOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY ARE UNCERTAIN IF THEY WOULD ASSUME LIABILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,506.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED IT RESETS POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND IT WORKS NORMAL. HOWEVER THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON THE DISPLAY WILL COME ON AGAIN WITH THE RESULTING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS RESULTS IN DIFFICULT STEERING ESPECIALLY IN TURNS. MY DAUGHTER WILL SOON BE OBTAINING HER DRIVERS LICENSE AND I AM AFRAID TO ALLOW HER TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE WHEN THE STEERING GOES OUT IN A TURN IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN HAVING THIS ON-GOING PROBLEM SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2008. THE PROBLEM IS THE STEERING. SOMETIMES I HAVE DIFFICULTY STAYING IN MY LANE. WHEN I TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THE STEERING WHEEL IS TIGHT AND HARD TO MANEUVER. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE ALIGNMENT BUT THAT WAS RULED OUT. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RECOVER AND GO BACK INTO MY LANE IN ALL INSTANCES BUT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN A HARD ONE TO PROVE AND IT'S AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *TR
LOSS OF POWER STEERING 2006 COBALT "POWER STEERING" FLASHED ON THE DASH AND I LOST POWER ASSIST. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES ALREADY SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT WENT OUT TODAY AS I WAS DRIVING AROUND ON BASE. WITH THE RESEARCH I'VE DONE ONLINE, AND FROM TALKING TO FRIENDS WHO OWN COBALTS, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE COBALT'S POWER STEERING. I HAVE TO FIGHT TO TURN THE WHEEL WHEN MAKING A TURN, AND PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WAS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. YET WHEN I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, WAIT, AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON, IT RUNS FINE. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR COST WAS $1,000. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
2006 CHEVY COBALT, POWER STEERING GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHICH REQUIRED HIGHER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AS A RESULT OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING MODULE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT HER POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON. THE POWER STEERING FAILED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES THEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS AGO FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000, ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM STEERING. SHE CALLED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH AN EXISTING SAFETY RECALL. 2006 CHEVY COBALT. FIRST THE ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, RADIO AND OTHER DASH INSTRUMENTS STOPPED WORKING. THE NEXT DAY THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. TOOK IT TO THE AUTO PARTS STORE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH SHOWED NOTHING WAS WRONG. BOUGHT A NEW FUSE WHICH DID NOTHING. HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO BE FIXED FOR MONEY REASONS. THIS IS MY SON WHO IS AWAY AT COLLEGE ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK SINCE THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY AND HAD DIFFICULTY PARKING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED RESULTING IN A NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR 2006 CHEVY COBALT WHEN, WITHOUT WARNING, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. HE CROSSED DOUBLE YELLOW LINE BEFORE BEING ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY SERIOUS HEAD-ON COLLISION HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER CAR ONCOMING. HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING COLUMN AND MOTOR. CAR HAD APPROX. 50,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THIS OCCURRED AND OF COURSE, JUST PASSED THE WARRANTY TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHY IS CHEVY/GM NOT TAKING ACCOUNTABILITY FOR A DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING COLUMN? THERE ARE 1,000'S OF PEOPLE IN OUR SITUATION AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. ARE THEY WAITING FOR A FATALITY TO OCCUR? THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AS I CALLED CHEVY DIRECTLY, BUT THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. ANYONE DRIVING A CHEVY COBALT SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR, NOR DO I WANT TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THIS CAR. YOU TAKE IT FOR GRANTED THAT WHEN YOU BUY A CAR, THE COMPANY PRODUCING THE CAR IS CONCERNED FOR YOUR SAFETY. THAT IS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CASE WITH THE CHEVY COBALT. SHAME ON YOU GM TO THINK ABOUT YOUR OWN WALLET BEFORE THE SAFETY OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. MAKES YOU THINK TWICE TO BUY "AMERICAN". *TR
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 CHEVY COBALT. WITHIN THE LAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. IT HAS CUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, SWITCHING LANES ON THE EXPRESSWAY, AND EVEN TURNING IN PARKING SPACES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A CHEVY DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN AND THE MOTOR THAT GOES WITH IT. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE PROBLEM KEPT OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES IN A DAY, I FOUND THAT THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON THEN IT WOULD RESET AND I CAN DRIVE AGAIN. BUT WHO KNOWS WHEN IT WILL CUT OFF AGAIN. IT COULD BE MINUTES OR HOURS, BUT IT OCCURS AGAIN, UNTIL I PULL OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS. IT IS A DANGER TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. ESPECIALLY RIDING WITH KIDS IN THE CAR. I HAVE REPLACED THE 2 PARTS AS SUGGESTED BY THE CHEVY DEALER WHICH COST ME $1371 TOTAL. NOW JUST LESS THAN 3 WEEKS, I HEARD THERE ARE MORE THAN 11,000 OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS. I WENT BACK TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO WAIT ON A LETTER FROM CHEVY BECAUSE CURRENTLY THEY ARE RECALLING CARS INDIVIDUALLY BY SERIAL NUMBER. I INFORMED THE GENTLEMAN I HAD THE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS LIKE THE OTHERS AND WAS GIVEN A 1 800 NUMBER TO CALL CHEVY. I HAVE GONE THRU THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM AND CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANYWHERE. I HOPE HELP IS ON ITS WAY. I GAVE CHEVY ALL THE MONEY I HAVE PLUS BORROWED MONEY. *JB

I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT COULD BE A HAZARD IF I WAS DRIVING IN OUR BUSY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND IT DECIDES TO GO OUT. I HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET MYSELF TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECALLS AFTER READING MANY REVIEWS ONLINE. I HAVE ALSO TALKED TO A COUPLE OF LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING AND NOT FLUID DRIVEN VEHICLES. BOTH PLACES TOLD ME THEY HAVE REPLACED A LOT OF THEM IN THE 2006 COBALTS, EVEN RECENTLY. CHEVROLET THEMSELVES JUST TYPED IN MY COMPLAINT FOR REVIEW AND THEY WOULD SEE IF ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE REGARDING THIS SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE. I FEAR THAT MY DAUGHTERS LIFE IS AT RISK DRIVING THIS CAR, BUT STILL NEEDS TO GO TO WORK. WHILE THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN HE NOTICED A POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER HAD POWER STEERING WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO A DITCH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58613.

INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE ON 2006 CHEVROLET COBOLT. CAR HAS 39000 MILES WITH ELECTRIC STEERING. NOT UNDER WARRANTY. CALLED 4 CHEVY DEALERS AND ALL SERVICE DEPT TOLD ME THEY SEEM SEVERAL. ALSO HEADLIGHT FOGS UP FREQUENTLY AFTER HEAVY RAIN. DEALER TOLD ME TO DRIVE AROUND AND IT WILL GO AWAY. IT TAKES ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO ALMOST CLEAR UP UNTIL ANOTHER HEAVY RAIN.WENT TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE FOGGED UP LENS AND ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHO BOUGHT THEIR CAR 2 WEEKS EARLIER HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SHOULD NOT GO BAD ON A 2006 WITH 38,000 MILES. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS NEW TECHNOLOGY. NO BELTS, PUMPS OR FLUID. SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
MY DAUGHTER'S 06 CHEVY COBALT LS STEERING LOSS POWER AND SHE BARLEY GOT HER CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC, SHE THEN WAITED TEN MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 4 MORE MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN SO I HAD TO GET IT FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GOT HURT, THIS HAS COST ME SOME VERY EXPENSIVE CAR REPAIRS, SOME THING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS I'VE BEENTOLD BY THE REPAIR SHOP THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN SINCE THE PART THEY REPLACED IS THE SAME PART THEY ORDERED, WHICH IS FAULTY, I LIVE IN FEAR EVERYTIME MY CHILD GETS IN THAT CAR TO GO ANYWHERE, AND SHE NEEDS A CAR TO GET TO COLLEGE. IT HAS LEAD TO A COUPLE OF VERY CLOSE MISHAPS WHEN I AM DRIVING. IT WILL WORK AND THEN WITH OUT NOTICE LOCK UP AND SHUT DOWN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE SENSOR IN THE COLUMN CAN GO BAD WHICH LEADS TO IT NOT RELAYING DATA TO THE MOTOR THAT CONTROLS THE POWER STEERING. I BELIEVE ITS A PROBLEM WITH CHEVY. IF THE SENSOR CONSTANTLY IS GOING BAD THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. NOT TO MENTION ITS A $1,500.00 JOB TO FIX WHICH IS OUT RAGES. WHY? WHY CHEVY? WHY ME? ALL I WANTED WAS A DECENT CAR. I THOUGHT I HAD FOUND ONE WHEN I BOUGHT MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT LT. IT LOOKED SO PRETTY SITTING IN THE DEALERS LOT. IF I KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE A PIECE OF !@#$%, I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY CAR WHEN I WAS TRANSPORTING CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL. THAT WOULD BE A GOOD HEADLINE FOR CHEVY. 3 YOUNG CHILDREN DIE IN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF LOUSY CHEVY PARTS. MY POWER STEERING HAS GONE OFF AT LEAST 8 TIMES. WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DIGITAL READ OUT WHERE IS SHOWS THE MILEAGE AND I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WAS HARDER TO MANEUVER. I SLOWED DOWN AND IT BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LOOKED FOR ANY FUSES THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN BLOWN NOT KNOWING IF THERE WAS ANY AND RESTARTED STARTED THE ENGINE AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE. BUT IT DID IT 3 MORE TIMES IN A 4 MILE DISTANCE. *TR
1) DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 2) POWER STEERING GOES OUT IN COBALT. OCCURS EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE COBALT, AND CONSEQUENCE IS HARD DRIVING AND REAL POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT. 3) TOLD NOT UNDER WARRANTY TO REPLACE, SINCE NO RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. STILL DRIVING UNDER POTENTIAL HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS, DUE TO THE LARGE EXPENSIVE I WOULD NEED TO ABSORB TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH MY CHEVY COBALT, 2006 FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. POWER STEERING WILL FLASH SEVERAL TIMES ON THE DASH BOARD WHILE DRIVING AND EVENTUALLY THE STEERING WHEEL WILL START JERKING TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. WHICH IS VERY SCARY WHILE DRIVING. AFTER THAT THE CAR WILL START JERKING BACK AND FORTH. ALMOST LIKE DRIVING A STANDARD CAR. I HAVE TAKEN TO NUMEROUS DEALERS AND THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $600 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE SINCE THE POWER STEERING FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COLD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,800.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT AND FOR THE PAST MONTH THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN TURNING OFF WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING. AT FIRST IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE EVERY FEW DAYS, THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING DAILY, NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I GET IN THE CAR, ABOUT 15 SECONDS AFTER I START TO DRIVE IT TURNS OFF. I WAS DRIVING SLOW AROUND A BEND AND MY CAR LOST COMPLETE CONTROL SPUN AROUND THREE TIMES ALMOST HIT A BUS, THEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED COMPLETELY ON ME. I HAD TO TRY TO COAST IT DOWN THE HILL TO PULL OVER FOR TRAFFIC. IT HAS DONE THIS THREE TIMES SO FAR WITH THE SPINNING, EVEN ON DAYS THAT THERE IS DRY ROADS. I ALSO PARKED THE CAR WENT INTO A DRUGSTORE AND CAME OUT AND THE CAR STEERING WAS TOTALLY LOCKED AS WELL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS DOING IT AND I FEEL THAT THIS IS A UNSAFE CAR AS I TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN AROUND. I NO LONGER AM CONFIDENT IN THAT CAR. I WAS DRIVING MY COBALT SATURDAY MORNING AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I STOPPED CAR AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. I STARTED CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BUT THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN. I AM GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW AND EXPECT THE RUNAWAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AT HIS EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO DATE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS, HOWEVER THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION PERTAINING TO THE ALLEGED FAILURE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE10005: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 68,290.

STARTED LEAKING FUEL APPROXIMATELY JAN 2010. LOSS OF FUEL MILEAGE AFFECTED MY ASTHMA WHICH CAUSED ME TO GO INTO HOSPITAL. WAS INSPECTED AND WAS REPORTED THAT THE LINES WERE LEAKING. YOU CAN SMELL GAS FUMES WITHIN 100 FEET OF CAR. *TR
SECOND 2006 CHEVY COBALT OWNED. THE FIRST HAD AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASING IT. THE AIR HAD GONE OUT ON IT AND WE HAD RETURNED IT TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS SERVICED. WITHIN A WEEK IT CAUGHT FIRE IN TRAFFIC. WE ASSUMED THE DEALER DID SOMETHING INCORRECT WHEN RECONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLES. PARTLY BECAUSE THE FIRE HAD STARTED IN TRUNK WHERE BATTERY WAS. WE THOUGHT IT WAS HUMAN ERROR SO WE PURCHASED ANOTHER 2006 COBALT. IT STARTED DYING IN TRAFFIC AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN STOPPED OR WHEN YOU ALLOW IT TO IDLE. TOOK IT TO SEVERAL AUTO STORES AND HAD PUT ON MACHINE. ANSWER WAS RAPID MISFIRE. BOUGHT NEW SPARKPLUGS AND WIRES. REPLACED THOSE TO NO AVAIL, TRIED GAS TREATMENTS FOR THE SHUTTERING ENGINE, TO NO AVAIL. TOOK IT TO MECHANICS TWICE. THEY REPLACED THE COOLING SENSOR. STILL CUTTING OUT AND WOULDN'T IDLE PROPERLY. TOOK BACK TO MECHANIC. HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. NOTICED ONE HEADLIGHT OFF WHEN WE PICKED IT UP. TOOK IT HOME TO INVESTIGATE AND HEADLIGHT BACK ON. WE BELIEVE ITS A SHORT SOMEWHERE IN SYSTEM. DOESN'T DIE WHEN LIGHTS ARE OFF. APPROXIMATELY 98,000 MILES. HAD A MINOR ISSUE WITH A GAS LEAK. TOOK IT TO LOCAL DEALER AND WAS ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. NO OTHER MAJOR ISSUES. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR STARTED TO NOT CLOSE WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED AND AFTER A WHILE THE DOOR GOT COMPLETELY STUCK AND WILL NOT OPEN AND THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE IS CRACKING ALMOST READY TO BRAKE. DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS STARTING TO STICK SHUT ALSO.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BE HARD TO TURN AND VEHICLE JERKED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING BELL BEEPED WHILE THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WANTED TO ALSO STATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL YEARS AGO TO HAVE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 10V073000 PERFORMED HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000. LI
ON DECEMBER 31, 2009, MY 25 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ALONG AN INTERSTATE IN HER CHEVY COBALT. SHE CRASHED INTO A TREE ALONG THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. HER AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND HER SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK. SHE DIED ON IMPACT, ACCORDING TO THE POLICE ON REVIEWING THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT, MY SON OBSERVED THAT THE TRACKS LEFT BY THE CAR BEFORE IT CRASHED WERE IN A STRAIGHT LINE, SUGGESTING THAT THE BRAKES EITHER HAD NOT BEEN APPLIED OR HAD NOT WORKED. ON DOING RESEARCH, HE FOUND INFORMATION ONLINE SUGGESTING THAT THERE HAD BEEN OTHER, SIMILAR CRASHES IN COBALTS AND THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS THOUGHT TO BE DEFECTIVE. WE HAVE ALREADY ADDRESSED THIS WITH GM AND COMPLETED OUR ACTION, AND, AT THE TIME, I FILED A CONSUMER COMPLAINT TO DOCUMENT THE ISSUE. I JUST READ THAT THIS AGENCY WILL BE INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE, AND I WANTED TO MAKE SURE YOU WERE AWARE OF MY DAUGHTER'S DEATH IN A COBALT IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, THE SEATBELT DID NOT LOCK, AND THAT WE STRONGLY SUSPECT, THOUGH GM NEVER CONFIRMED THIS, HAD A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
