ONE DAY MY WIFE WALKED PAST THE CAR & SMELLED GAS. I TRACKED DOWN THE SMELL TO THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. I REMOVED THE GAS TANK TO FIND THE FUEL SUPPLY PORT LEAKING GAS. I HAVE YET TO TAKE CARE OF IT. *TR
2006 CHEVY COBALT STEERING FAILED TAKING A SHARP TURN CAUSING CAR TO CROSS CENTERLINE HITTING ANOTHER CAR HEAD ON, SON SUFFERED A VERY BAD BROKEN LEG REQUIRING A ROD FROM KNEE TO ANKLE. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS AGO MY VEHICLE ALERTED ME THAT MY POWER STEERING IS NO LONGER ENGAGED. IT FIRST OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALL OF THE SUDDEN, AND I WAS FORCED TO OPERATE THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING. ORIGINALLY IT OCCURRED ONCE A WEEK, BUT FOR THE PAST MONTH MY POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT EVERYDAY. IT USUALLY OCCURS WHILE I'M DRIVING LESS THAN 45 MILES PER HOUR, BUT ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS IT HAS GONE OUT ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE I'M TRAVELING 70 MILES AN HOUR. THE ONLY WAY I KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK, TURN OFF THE IGNITION, AND THEN RESTART MY VEHICLE. WHEN I RESTART MY VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING IS ENGAGED AGAIN. *TR
I HAVE A 06 CHEVY COBALT WITH INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURES. IT FAILS AFTER APPROX. 20 OF DAILY DRIVING WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND I CONSIDER IT DANGEROUS. GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS BUT IS NOT BEING PROACTIVE TO OFFER A SOLUTION OR RECALL. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT REPAIRED BUT EVEN SO, REPAIRS ARE ALSO DONE WITH FAULTY PARTS. THE CAR HAS 65K MILES. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT LS. IT HAS BEEN GIVING ME SEVERAL PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN FIXING ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER ON MY CAR. MY CAR ONLY HAVE 46,000 MILES. THAT IS GOOD FOR IT BEING A 2006. I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES. I HAVE REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER. BUT THE WORST PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING NOW IS THE POWER STEERING. WHEN IM DRIVING OUT OF NOWHERE THE DASH LIGHT UP SAYING POWER STEERING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING AT A SLOW SPEED. I HAVE EVEN BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. THE ONLY WAY TO GET MY POWER STEERING TO WORK NORMALLY IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. AT FIRST IT WOULD WORK FINE FOR AWHILE. BUT NOW IT HAPPENS RIGHT WHEN I START TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT COULD COST OVER $1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I CAN BARELY AFFORD TO FIX THESE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT I AM HAVING. I CANT AFFORD TO PAY $1500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WAS ONLINE LOOKING TO SEE IF I CAN FIND A CHEAPER PRICE. THIS IS WHEN I SAW THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING. THIS IS HOW I KNOW THAT IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I HAVE DONE. WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, THEY NEED TO FIX IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY! MY DIGITAL READING ON MY CAR BLINKED POWER STEERING. THIS HAS NEVER COME UP BEFORE IN THE PAST! NO TYPE OF WARNING SAYING MY POWER STEERING WAS EVEN GOING OUT. WITHIN MINUTES I LOST ALL POWER STEERING! THIS MADE IT HARD TO EVEN STEER RIGHT OR LEFT TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT! THEN WHEN I PULL OVER TO READ THE COBALT MANUAL ALL THAT IT INFORMS ME TO DO IS TO TAKE MY CARE IMMEDIATELY TO A DEALER SHIP! WHILE DRIVING MY CAR THE ONLY WAY TO GET ANY TYPE OF STEERING BACK I WOULD HAVE TO SHUT MY CAR OFF THEN TURN IT BACK ON TO GET ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF STEERING BEFORE I WOULD LOOSE ALL MY STEERING AGAIN. I HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A DEALER SHIP IF I HAVE NO STEERING! THIS HAS CAUSED ME A LOT OF HASSLE TRYING TO GET ANYTHING FIXED! TO GET THIS FIXED ISN'T CHEAP! AND ITS NOT LIKE BRAKES WHERE YOU HAVE CONTROL OVER HOW FAST YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THEM DUE TO YOUR DRIVING! NO WARNING AND NOW MY CAR IS COMPLETELY USELESS UNTIL I PAY TO GET IT FIXED! I AM QUITE UNSATISFIED AS A CHEVY CUSTOMER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE PARKED, SHE NOTICED A PUDDLE OF GASOLINE UNDERNEATH OF THE VEHICLE. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 .
MY POWER STEERING IS GOING IN AND OUT. MY CAR IS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD. I WENT ON THE COMPUTER AND DID SOME RESEARCH AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS HAVING PROBLEMS. APPARENTLY THERE IS SOME KIND OF DEFECT BECAUSE A TON OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I AM ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES THAT DID WRECK OR CAUSE INJURY TO ANYONE. I AM DOING THIS COMPLAINT IN ORDER FOR THIS NOT TO HAPPEN TO OTHERS AND MAYBE GM WILL DO A RECALL ON THIS DEFECT. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT AND THE POWER STEERING HAS COMPLETELY GONE. ITS 1000 DOLLARS TO FIX IT AND I AM HAVING CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHICH REQUIRED HIGHER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF INCLUDING THE ILLUMINATION OF WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE IDENTICAL FAILURES OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY ELECTRONIC STEERING IS NO LONGER WORKING. AS SOON AS I START MY CAR, IT LAST FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN IT GOES OUT AND I HAVE TO STEER UNASSISTED. THIS IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DO AT LOW SPEEDS. IT IMPEDES MY MANUEVERABILITY ESPECIALLY WITH RESPECT TO PARKING AND PARALLEL PARKING IS IMPOSSIBLE. MY WIFE CAN LONGER DRIVE THIS CAR SINCE IT REQUIRES THE STRENGTH OF HERCULES TO STEER CAR. *CN
POWER STEERING IS OFF AND YOU HAVE TO PUT ALL YOUR MIGHT TO MAKE TURNS AND U-TURNS. *TR
THE CHEVY COBALT HAS SERIOUS BUT INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL DISPLAY A "POWER STEERING" WARNING. SOMETIMES THIS IS THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM BUT OFTEN THE STEERING WHEEL WILL LOCK UP OR BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO "TRIGGER" THAT I CAN IDENTIFY. THE RECOMMENDED REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE COLUMN, BUT EVEN THE NEW COLUMNS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. WE FIRST HAD THE ISSUE AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES, THE COLUMN WAS REPLACED AND NOW, AT ABOUT 75,000 MILES, WE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THE SAME PROBLEM ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR MOST MODEL YEARS AND BEGINNING AS EARLY AS 4000 MILES. THIS ISSUE IS LIFE THREATENING AND MUST BE REMEDIED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. WHEN THE STEERING LOCKS UP IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. SOMETIMES THE WARNING MESSAGE IS THERE AND SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. A RATTLING NOISE CAN BE HEARD SOMETIMES AS WELL, ALONG WITH THE SMELL OF SOMETHING GETTING TO HOT. I BELIEVE A RECALL IS IN ORDER DUE THE EXTENSIVENESS AND SEVERITY OF THIS DEFECT. I SINCERELY HOPE NO ONE IS KILLED BEFORE A LASTING RESOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE CAN BE FOUND. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. SINCE OCTOBER OF 2009 SHE EXPERIENCED FAILURE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS INCLUDING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND SHE HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE POWER STEERING ILLUMINATED EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE 10 TIMES AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL; HOWEVER, THEY REPLACED THE ECM COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE CONTACT PAID $600 FOR THE REPAIRS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT ON MY CAR WITHOUT A WARNING..... WHILE DRIVING. *TR
POWER STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING ON A ROAD AT AROUND 35-40MPH. AND THE CAR RAN INTO A ROCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FLIPPED UPSIDE-DOWN. THERE WAS NO SEVERE INJURY BUT THE CAR WAS REPORTED AS TOTAL LOSS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHEN DRIVING 30 MPH HE LOST POWER STEERING WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. AS A CONSEQUENCE STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. A MECHANIC CONCLUDED THAT THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING FAILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE STEERING LOCKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF $2500.00. THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
2006 COBALTS SHOULD BE RECALLED. I HAVE ONE WITH THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM, GM DOES NOT WANT TO FIX IT. PLEASE HELP..! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHOM ADVISED HER THAT THE FAILURE WAS UNHEARD OF. THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON HER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING GOES OUT, FIRST HAPPEN IN OCT, HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD IT IS A MOTOR CIRCUIT THAT IS ON THE STEERING COLUMN AND WOULD COST $1000 TO $1500 TO FIX BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO TAKE COLUMN OUT TO GET TO IT, IT GOES OUT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ANYTIME ONE OR 2 TIME A DAY, SO YOU HAVE TO STOP AND TURN OFF MOTOR AND RESTART AND IT WILL WORK FOR A FEW MORE MILES OR NOT! IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO STEER AND I CANT KEEP DRIVING IT LIKE THIS SO AM TAKING IT IN TO REPAIR, I DON'T REALLY WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING I THINK CHEVY SHOULD FIX THAT A LOT OF CARS ARE HAVING BUT DON'T HAVE A CHOICE AS I CANT KEEP DRIVING IT THIS WAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY HE HEARD A THUD, AND THEN STEERING BECAME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY AND THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE STEERING ROD WAS LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 82,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER STEERING. 2006 CHEVY COBALT RANDOMLY STALLS WHILE DRIVING. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES NOW IN 3 MONTHS. TONIGHT IT STALLED AND THEN COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ALL WITHIN A MILE. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AFTER THE 2ND TIME IT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL IT HAPPENS FOR THEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN MOVING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO THE OTHER. THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ENGINE ALSO SHUT OFF; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND THE SYSTEM WOULD RESET ITSELF. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THERE ARE NO RELATED RECALLS OR WARRANTIES ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000. UPDATED 11/03/09 *BF
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A SLOW TURN INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN THE POWER STEERING EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING THAT THIS FAILURE WAS ABOUT TO OCCUR. THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED. STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT, BUT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN FULL CONTROL AND SAFELY PARK THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALLOWED TO SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND THEN RESTARTED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS AGAIN OPERATIONAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE THE NEXT DAY. A POWER STEERING MOTOR KIT # 6.605 WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE OLD PART WAS RETAINED BY THE DEALER.*TR
BEGAN DRIVING ON TO HIGHWAY. BETWEEN THE SHIFT FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR, THE CLUTCH PEDAL DEPLETES COMPLETELY AND DOES NOT RETURN. AFTER TOWING THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP, WE FIND THE FIREWALL IS BROKEN. WHEN A NEW FIREWALL WAS PUT IN IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE PART OF THE FIREWALL WAS MODIFIED AND REINFORCED. I STILL HAVE THE OLD PART TO SHOW PROOF OF THE CHANGE MADE. *TR
I HAVE A 06 COBALT RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING . IN OCTOBER OF 09 I STARTED CALLING GM OVER MY POWER STEERING GOING OUT . MY CAR IS UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY THEN AND STILL IS WITH JUST 50,000 MILES. I CALLED GM RESEARCHED ,AND SIGNED THE PETITION FOR THE RECALL AND GOT NOWHERE BUT LIES FROM THEM. I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THEY COULD FIX IT UNDER THE WARRANTY BEFORE THE RECALL THAT THEY SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT WENT INTO AFFECT. THEY TOLD ME TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH COST 100 DOLLARS OUT OF MY POCKET WHICH I DID. STILL NO RESULT, NOW WE HAVE A RECALL 2 MONTHS AFTER THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX MY CAR. THE THING THAT TROUBLES ME NOW IS THAT THERE IS ANOTHER LIE BEING TOLD BECAUSE THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST SAYS THAT THERE IS 2 THINGS THAT SHOULD BE FIXED NOT JUST ONE, THE CHEAPEST ONE, THE RECALL IS ONLY GOING TO FIX THE MOTOR . THE COLUMN IS ALSO SUPPOSE TO BE FIXED BECAUSE THE MOTOR WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM ALTOGETHER IT IS JUST A BANDAID SORT OF THING. THIS IS WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT GM REQUIRED BEFORE THE RECALL. THIS IS ABOUT A $1500 PROBLEM .WHY ARE THEY NOT GOING TO FIX ALL OF IT LIKE THEY SAID IT REQUIRED BEFORE RECALL. IT GOES OUT WHEN YOU GET TO 10 OR 15 MPH AND STAYS OUT UNTIL CAR IS SHUT OFF. THEY ARE LYING ABOUT WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME WHO ONLY DRIVES 10MPH IMPOSSIBLE! I HAVE BEEN GETTING ON THE RAMPS ON HIGHWAYS IN A CURVE AND IT WOULD GO OUT ,VERY DANGEROUS VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN STEERING WHEEL, IT IS VERY HARD TO KEEP CAR STEERED STRAIGHT, NOT TO MENTION TRYING TO PARK OR BACK UP IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE AND DANGEROUS ON HITTING OTHER VEHICLES THAT ARE CLOSE TO YOU. I DRIVE IN FEAR EVERY DAY WITH A NEW CAR, I HAVE GOT NECK AND BACK PROBLEMS NOW FROM THIS. I HAVE A LIST OF FRONT END WEAR & TEAR DAMAGE FROM THIS BEING OUT FOR 10 MONTHS NOW . I HAVE A 87 YR FATHER WHO WAS A GM WORKER ,WHO I TAKE TO APPTS IN THIS CAR, WHICH WE BOTH FEAR EVERYTIME WE ARE IN IT. GM NEEDS TO FIX BOTH PROBLEMS. *TR

THERE WAS EXTREME DIFFICULTY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER EXERTED GREATER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH CAUTION. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,700. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. JS
