TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND HE RESUMED NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR SHOULD BE REPLACED AT THE MANUFACTURERS EXPENSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,313.
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. I HAVE A 2006, CHEVY COBALT, AND AM ONE OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD TO HAVE A MOTOR REPLACED IN MY POWER STEERING. IT JUST STOPPED WORKING WHILE I HAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. NO POWER STEERING!!!! I DID TALK TO CHEVY, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT ODD, HAVING LESS THE 50,000 ON MY CAR. I WAS A FEW MILES FROM HOME, AND WAS BLESSED ENOUGH TO BE NEAR A CHURCH PARKING LOT, TO PULL OVER. I AM ALSO YOUNG ENOUGH, AND STRONG ENOUGH THAT I DID GET IT BACK HOME, SO MY HUSBAND COULD CHECK IT. I DID CHECK WITH CHEVY, TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, OR IF THEY WERE AWARE OF A PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT HAVE A RECALL, AND WERE NOT AWARE OF A PROBLEM. THIS IS WHAT THEY SAID. AGAIN, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT ODD. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP, AND IT COST $418.00. I WOULD HAVE HATED TO HAVE BEEN IN TRAFFIC, OR IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, OR A BAD CURVE. IF IT HAD OF HAPPENED IN ANY OF THOSE 3, I MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. I DO BELIEVE IT IS A GREAT SAFETY PROBLEM. PEOPLE THAT DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF ARM STRENGTH, WOULD HAVE NO CONTROL. .AS STAYED ABOVE I HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED. *TR
POWERSTEERING LIGHT COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AND THEN THE CAR GETS HARD TO STEER, WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE IT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK. ONCE YOU SHUT OFF THE CAR, IT RESETS AND THEN IT WILL DO IT AGAIN A WHILE LATER. I CHECKED ONLINE AND THE EASIEST FIX IS TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN AND THIS COSTS JUST UNDER 1,000$. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HOW CAN THIS BE? IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

IM HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE IN MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT IT JUS QUIT ON ME ALL OF A SUDDEN AN I RAN INTO A DITCH NO WARNING LIGHTS HAD CAME ON TILL AFTER I WAS PULLED OUT OF THE DITCH I FOUND IT HARD TO TURN AND EVERYONE I TAKE IT TO CANT FIND THE CODES TO TELL WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE CAR BUT THE ONLY PLACE THAT DID WAS THE DEALER SHIP N THEY SAID THAT AS SOON AS I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT THEY DID ONE CHECK AFTER THAT AND CONFIRMED IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHEN MAKING A TURN THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, SHE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 71774.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THIS HAS OCCURRED DAILY SINCE THEN, AND BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AS THE DAYS PROGRESS. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON MY CAR SO SOON, AND ESTIMATES FOR REPAIR ARE BEGINNING AT $1,000, WHICH IS ENTIRELY TOO MUCH FOR A SINGLE MOTHER AND FULL TIME COLLEGE STUDENT TO HANDLE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HAS TO BE A DEFECT AS THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING WITH OTHER COBALTS. I RISK LOSING CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND CAUSING INJURY TO MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED. IT WAS OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY WOULD NOT COME BACK AT ALL. WE HAD TO BE PUT ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE ACTUAL PART. ONCE IT CAME IN, WE HAD IT REPAIRED. *TW
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. THE CONTACT REDUCED THE SPEED BEING TRAVELED AND CONTINUED WITH EXTREME CAUTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR BUSHING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED BY THE CONTACT WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT LT AND THE POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERYTIME I DRIVE MY CAR WHICH IS DAILY AND IT STARTED AROUND OCT 14TH 2009. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A PRIVATE PARTY, BUT I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP TO GET FIXED. IT NEEDED A NEW MOTOR FOR THE POWER STEERING SINCE IT IS ELECTRICAL. THIS HAS COST ME AROUND $438. IT MAKES ME NERVOUS DRIVING THE CAR IN TOWN WITH TRAFFIC AND HAVING IT GO OUT. I LIVE KIND OF OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND THERE IS MANY SHARP CORNERS FOR ME TO GET HOME. *TR
IN SUMMER, 2009, PROBLEMS BEGAN TO ARISE WITH STEERING AND CRUISE CONTROL ON 2006 CHEVY. COBALT. A LIGHT IN THE DASH WOULD COME ON THEN STEERING BECOMES VERY HARD, UNCONTROLLABLE AS IF THE CAR HAD NO POWER ASSIST AT ALL. THE POWER ASSIST FAILURES BECAME MORE FREQUENT SO CAR WAS TAKEN TO CHEVY. DEALER ON 9/25/09. THE SERVICE DEPT. CHARGED $181.00 AND MADE SOME CORRECTIONS BUT WERE RELUCTANT TO ADVISE THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN CORRECTED. ON 10/20/09, A COLLISION ALMOST OCCURRED DURING A RIGHT HAND TURN BEING MADE AND THE POWER STEERING FAILURE COINCIDING. *TR
ELECTRONICPOWER STEERING FAILURE ON 2006 CHEVY COBALT LT. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AND POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT SUDDENLY. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND GM REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE PROBLEM TO FIX AND I CAN'T AFFORD IT. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE. NO WONDER THEY ARE GOING BANKRUPT! *TR

THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO SAFELY RESTART THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 61,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE, SOME PEOPLE AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THEIR CAR IN THAT SITUATION. THIS WILL RESULT IN A WRECK. THE POWER STEERING JUST GOES OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. SO IN THAT CASE IF YOUR TURNING AND THE STEERING GOES OUT, WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO JUST PUT SOMEONE ELSE'S LIFE IN DANGER? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE FUEL TANK HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS. A TECHNICIAN FROM THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO PERFORM A SMOKE TANK TEST AT AN EXPENSE OF $112.00. AND THEN DROPPED THE TANK TO SEE WHERE THE FUEL LEAK WAS COMING FROM. IF THE FUEL TANK HAS TO BE REPLACED IT WILL COST $900. THE CHEVROLET MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO HAVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, AND AFTERWARD THEY MAY PROVIDE A DISCOUNT TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000. THE VIN NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
RAW GAS SWELL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE. FUEL COMING FROM SENDING UNIT DO TO CRACK IN THE LINE BETWEEN FUEL TANK AND FUEL FILTER. THIS WAS CORRECTED BY REPLACING THE FUEL MODULE ASSY (FUEL PUMP). *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT AND I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH THE STEERING, IT KEEPS GOING OUT ON ME WHILE DRIVING. WHEN U TURN IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON IT WORKS FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND GOES OUT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE AND HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT SEDAN THAT HAS APPROXIMATELY 45K MILES ON IT, MOSTLY LOCAL DRIVING. IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, TWICE UNDER SIMILAR DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN THE DASH AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTIONING. AFTER EXAMINATION BY MY MECHANIC, THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL REQUIRING A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. CHEVROLET HAS PUBLISHED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE NOT HAD ANY AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS EITHER TIME THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO ON OR ABOUT 10/9/09 AND THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT 10/14/09. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY WITH THE MECHANIC AWAITING A REPAIR ESTIMATE. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR HAS INTERMITTENT FAILURE. AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NO MORE POWER STEERING! VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO REPAIR YET. POSSIBLE BLOCKAGE AND AFRAID OF DRIVING CAR DUE TO IT ENDING UP IN FLAMES. CALLED GM TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL, WAS TOLD NO RECALL ON MY VIN# BUT FOUND OUT ON INTERNET THROUGH AUTOBLOG THAT GM HAS PLANS ON A RECALL BUT DOESN'T STATE WHEN OWNER'S WILL BE NOTIFIED OR WHETHER OR NOT MY CAR WILL BE PART OF THAT RECALL. I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT OWN 2006 COBALTS ARE HAVING A LOT OF FUEL PROBLEMS. *TR
PLEASE GO TO GET SATISFACTION.COM TO REVIEW ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS BY CHEVY COBALT OWNERS. THESE CARS ARE DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS, PARTICULARLY THE POWER STEERING ISSUE. I HAVE AN '06 COBALT AND THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING SUDDENLY AT AROUND 62,000 MILES. GM REFUSES TO FIX IT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED ON THE CAR AT 60K. THEY WANT NEARLY $1000 TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR.
STARTING THE CAR AND PULLING OUT, THE POWER STEERING NOT WORKING, CAR HESITATING WHEN ACCELERATING AND THEN I PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND START THE CAR AGAIN, AND ITS RUNNING FINE. THIS STARTED A MONTH OR SO AFTER OUR PURCHASE (USED) ON MAY 15,2009. THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE ANY WEEKEND SERVICE. THE DATE ABOVE IS WHEN WE 1ST REPORTED FOR SERVICE. BUT TURNING THE CAR OFF/ON ALWAYS FIXED THE PROBLEM. SERVICE DATES-10/8/09,10/15/09,8/28/10,5/19/11.3/27/12. DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANY DIALOGISTIC PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN & RUNNING, ON 7/2/13, WHILE RUNNING A MECHANIC DROVE IT, SAID HE KNEW THE PROBLEM. DIALOGISTIC SHOWED 2- COST $430. TO REPAIR. 2WKS. LATER, HAPPENED AGAIN, DIALOGISTIC SHOWED 6. ESTIMATE $6-$800 PLUS. TOO MUCH TO FIX IT. IN THE PAST 3 YRS., FOUR TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT 60MPH,ON HWY., NO POWER STEERING, GAS HESITATING, & DOWN SHIFTS TO 25+/-WHILE FLOORING THE GAS, CAR BUCKING, & SPEEDOMETER BOUNCING B'TWN.30-50. VERY FREIGHTING AND ONCE THERE WAS NO PLACE TO STOP. *TR

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 CHEVY COBALT, AND THE POWER STEERING KEEPS FAILING. ALL I HEAR IS 3 DINGS AND I SEE POWER STEERING ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS DUE TO THE FACT THAT WITH TRAFFIC THESE DAYS AND ALL OF THE OTHER SAFETY CONCERNS THIS JUST ADDS TO THE FRUSTRATION AND WORRY. PLEASE LOOK INTO A RECALL FOR THIS. THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE AFFECTED BY THIS. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR THE DRIVER WHAT-SO-EVER AND SEEING AS THOUGH PAYING $2000 FOR THIS TO GET FIXED IS KIND OF HARD TO SWALLOW, MAYBE A RECALL WOULD BE BEST FOR ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. HE WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES HE TURNED THE VEHICLE ON, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING LOCKED AGAIN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SINCE HIS WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80100 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90300.
I OWN A 2006 CHEVY COBALT LS IN WHICH THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I WAS JUST GOING 2-3 MPH OUT OF A PARKING DECK WHEN WITHOUT WARNING I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO STEERING. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE NEARBY CHEVY DEALERSHIP $456 LATER IT WAS FIXED. *TR
I HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED ON MY CAR ON FEB. 2009 BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A RATTLING NOISE IN THE STEERING AREA. THEY SAID IT WAS REPLACED AND THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY SO I DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING. IN MAY OF 2009 I WENT BACK AND TOLD THEM THAT I WAS STILL HEARING THE SAME RATTLING NOISE AND SINCE THE CAR DIDN'T HAVE WARRANTY THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIX IT AND THAT I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THAT I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IF IT WAS THE SAME PART THAT NEEDED REPLACING THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE IT FOR FREE. WELL FOR REASONS I WASN'T ABLE TO GO THAT DAY. WELL ON OCT. 4, 2009 THE CAR SHUT DOWN ON ME AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND WASN'T ABLE TO STEER THE CAR. I PUT THE CAR ON PARK AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND IT WORKED. I'M THINKING WHAT IF THIS WOULD'VE HAPPENED TO ME ON THE INTERSTATE, I COULD'VE BEEN IN A VERY BIG ACCIDENT SO I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY. THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING NOW IS THAT CHEVY DON'T WANT TO REPLACE THE SAME PART AND I'M VERY FRUSTRATED. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF OWNERS OF CHEVY COBALTS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME STEERING PROBLEMS AS MYSELF AND I THINK SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE QUICKLY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT SINCE THERE WAS NO WARRANTY THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE WOULD BE $100. THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT AND THEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I COULD BARELY KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD! 2006 COBALT 2 DOOR, I WAS HEADING TO WORK A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WHEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON AFTER I PARKED THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT THE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. AFTER I GOT OFF OF WORK I TUNED THE CAR ON AND THE LIGHT DID NOT TURNED ON AFTER ABOUT 15 SECONDS INTO DRIVING THE CAR THE LIGHT CAME BACK AGAIN. IT CONTINUED FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS I WAS GOING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BUT THE 4TH DAY THE LIGHT STAYED OFF. WHILE DRIVING MY CHEVY COBALT, I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AND MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND I ALMOST CRASH MY VEHICLE INTO A POLE GLADLY THERE WAS NOBODY STANDING OR OTHER VEHICLE NEAR THE INCIDENT. IT HAS NOW BECOME AN REPEATED INCIDENT MEANING THAT IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUT SIDE GETS TO COLD OR TOO HOT IT STOP WORKING. IT ALSO MAKES A BEE NOISE. I CHECK THRU THE WEBSITE REVIEW OTHER CHEVY COBALT OWNERS PROBLEM AND THEY ADVICE TO REMOVE THE 60 AMP FUSE AND PLACE IT BACK AND IT TEMPORARY CORRECT THE PROBLEM UNTIL IT DOES IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAYS THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HOLD STEERING UNIT WHICH OVER $1000 DOLLARS WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. I FIND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR INSTEAD OF A HYDRAULIC PUMP. I HAVE DONE A RESEARCH AND FIND OUT THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON OWNING A CHEVY COBALT THAT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE CAR STARTED PULLING TO THE LEFT.
