THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTIFICATION RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE REPAIRS HAVE NOT BEEN TAKEN CARE OF IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I FIND IT INCREDIBLE THAT IT IS TAKING MONTHS UPON MONTHS TO COMPLETE A SIMPLE PARTS REPLACEMENT. I WAS NOTIFIED IN MARCH 2014 OF THE RECALL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR MY CAR AND CONTACTED THE REPAIR SHOP FOR MY AREA THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO DO THE REPAIRS IN MARCH AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE RECALL. I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER IN APRIL AND CALLED THE SHOP AGAIN ON MAY 12, 2014 AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND IT WOULD TAKE 4 TO 6 WEEKS, SO I WAITED UNTIL JUNE 4, 2014 TO CHECK IN ON WHEN THEY COULD FIX THE SWITCH AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 4 TO 6 WEEKS AGAIN. I FEEL THAT THE PUBLIC IS GETTING THE RUN AROUND IN THIS SITUATION AND THAT THE GM COMPANY IS TRYING TO DELAY THIS SO THAT THEY WON'T HAVE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE TIME HAS RUN OUT. THE PARTS MANUFACTURE HAS HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO MAKE MORE OR GET MORE PARTS THIS IS A STALL TACTIC AND I FEEL THAT I AM TAKING A RISK WITH MY LIFE EVERY TIME I HAVE TO DRIVE TO WORK. *TR

THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS SINCE THE PARTS WERE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE.
RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING A DEFECT WITH THE IGNITION. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP TO MAKE APPT. NO PART AVAILABLE. HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP REGULARLY AND NO PART AVAILABLE. IT IS NOW AUGUST AND PART IS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
TL THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK. THE CONTACT HAD A DIFFICULT TIME REMOVING THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND WAS UNABLE TO GET THE KEY BACK INTO THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND IT WAS REPLACED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MARCH 2, 2014. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HER THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL APRIL OF 2014 AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST HER. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE COULD RECUR AND RESULT IN A FATAL CRASH. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 179,000. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY CHEVY COBALT 2007 HAS BEEN RECALLED. THE FIRST TIME WAS FOR THE GAS TANK, THE SECOND WAS FOR POWER STEERING, AND THE NEWEST RECALL, THE IGNITION SWITCH, HAS KILLED 13 PEOPLE WHO OWNED MY VEHICLE. I'M EXTREMELY UPSET WITH CHEVROLET. I DIDN'T EVEN FIND OUT ABOUT THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL UNTIL I TOOK MY CAR TO CHEVY TO CONSIDER BUYING A NEW CAR FROM THEM BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS FELT ODDLY UNSAFE IN MY CAR. NOW I KNOW WHY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PARTS UNAVAILABLE TO COMPLETE RECALL. *SMD AFTER RECEIVING A RENTAL VEHICLE, LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THE VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICK-UP, AS THE REPAIRS HAS BEEN MADE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY LOCK ON ITS OWN. *JB

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO ENTER THE IGNITION AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. ONCE THE KEY WAS FINALLY INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION, THE KEY FAILED TO TURN TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATIONS FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14V047000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), BUT THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
THERE ARE A LOT OF RECALLS ON THESE VEHICLES RIGHT NOW, EVERYTIME I CALL TO SEE IF MINE IS RECALLED FOR IGNITION TROUBLE THEY SAY NO. I WANT MINE REPLACED, AT GM'S EXPENSE. MY DOOR LOCKS ARE ELECTRIC LOCKS AND THEY LOCK ON THEIR OWN AND WHEN I AM DRIVING THEY TEND TO GO UP AND DOWN ON THEIR OWN. THIS HAS BEEN GOING FOR THREE WEEKS. ALSO THE SOUND FOR MY SIGNAL AND SEAT BELT WARNING IS NOT CLICKING NOR CHIMING, THE LEFT SPEAKING WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME THE SOUND STOPPED. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING MODERATELY FROM A STOP, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY DIED WHILE IN FIRST GEAR. I COASTED TO A STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS TO ALERT OTHER MOTORISTS. EACH TIME I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT SPUTTERED AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND THEN DIED. I KEPT TRYING FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AND ON ONE TRY THE ENGINE FINALLY STARTED AND STAYED RUNNING. THE RPM GAUGE REMAINED AT ZERO EVEN THOUGH I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND DRIVE AWAY FROM WHERE I HAD INITIALLY PULLED OVER. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, THE RPM GAUGE STARTED FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE DID RESTART. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 84,000. THE ENGINE TURNED OFF ALL BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AROUND A CORNER, CAUSING THE CAR TO GO OFF THE ROAD. I WAS GOING ABOUT 35 MPH, AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AS FAST AS I COULD, BUT THE CAR WENT UP AND OVER THE CURB, ACROSS THE SIDEWALK, AND BOTH FRONT TIRES WENT DOWN OFF THE STEEP EDGE OF THE SIDEWALK'S FAR SIDE INTO THE MUD. THE PART OF THE CAR BODY IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE FRONT TIRES WAS ALMOST TOUCHING (WAY LESS THAN 1 INCH ABOVE) THE EDGE OF THE TOP / EDGE OF THE SIDEWALK. I COULDN'T REVERSE BACK UP AND OVER THE SIDEWALK EDGE. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED, AND PULLED THE CAR STRAIGHT BACK AND UP/OVER THE EDGE OF THE SIDEWALK AND ONTO THE ROAD. SOME SORT OF DUST COVER THING FROM UP INSIDE THE PASSENGER-SIDE WHEEL WELL HAD BEEN TORN LOOSE DURING THE CRASH OFF THE SIDEWALK EDGE AND WAS STILL LAYING IN THE MUD. AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE HOME, THE STEERING / SUSPENSION (I CANNOT TELL WHICH) MADE A CREAKING AND GRINDING SORT OF NOISE WHEN TURNING, AND I COULD TELL FROM THE EXTENSIVE BOUNCING AT EVEN LITTLE BUMPS IN THE ROAD THAT BOTH FRONT STRUTS HAD BEEN DAMAGED. *TR

I AM WRITING BECAUSE I AM THE OWNER OF A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND THERE IS A RECALL ON ONE OF THE PARTS ON THE KEY FAB OR WITH THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT CAN CAUSE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF. I HAVE RECEIVED LETTERS TELLING ME TO WAIT UNTIL PARTS HAVE BECOME AVAILABLE AND HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN FATALITIES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. WHILE I MY SELF HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A FATAL ACCIDENT WHEN I WAS DRIVING WITH TWO OTHERS IN MY CAR SOME TIME LAST YEAR THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF BUT THE KEY STAYED IN THE ON POSITION AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SHUT OFF, I AM HOWEVER CONCERNED AND AM NOT SATISFIED THAT I AM BEING TOLD TO WAIT A MONTH OR TWO LONGER AND FEEL SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE SOONER WHETHER ITS GETTING THE PART SENT OUT FASTER OR ISSUING A RENTAL VEHICLE BECAUSE GM'S SOLUTION TO PARK THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE PART IS AVAILABLE DOES NOT WORK FOR MY SELF I HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE, TO AN INTERNSHIP, AND WORK AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO NOT GO TO ANY OF THOSE THINGS. SAFETY SHOULD BE A ISSUE THAT IS DEALT WITH AND PUTTING PEOPLES LIVES AT STAKE IS STUPID ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS ANOTHER WAY TO HANDLE THE SITUATION BUT GM IS CHOSE NOT TO DO SO. TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 58 MPH OVER A PATCH OF ICE THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE AND IT CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER THREE TIMES AND THEN LANDED ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST ON ITS TOP. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A BROKEN COLLAR BONE, BRUISES TO KIDNEY, RIBS AND OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY INCLUDING MINOR HEAD INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,621. THE DOORS LATCHES AND THE DOORS OPENERS WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. FOR EXAMPLE: THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH WILL NOT CATCH, THEREFORE YOU HAVE TO TAKE AND MANUALLY PUSH THE LATCH BACK UNTIL IT CLICKS AND YOU ALSO HAVE TO TAKE AN PULL THE DOOR HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR AT THE SAME TIME AS PUSHING THE LATCH BACK TO CLOSE THE DOOR. ALL FOUR DOORS ON THE CAR ARE LIKE THAT. SECOND, THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED ONCE DUE TO FAILURE TO OPERATE OPENING THE DOOR AS IF IT IS STUCK OR SOMETHING. THE COLOR OF THE CAR IS RED AND THE FIRST TIME THE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE WAS REPLACED, IT WAS REPLACED WITH A PLASTIC SILVER HANDLE. THE HANDLE HAS SINCE THAN BROKE AGAIN AND HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE TO OPERATE CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED. THIS CAR AND DISFUNCTIONAL PARTS HAS BECOME A NUISANCE. *TR
WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE, MY 2007 COBALT LOST POWER STEERING. A CHIME SOUNDED AND THE DASH LIT UP WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE ABOUT POWER STEERING FAILURE. I'VE PREVIOUSLY TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THE RECALL FOR THE ASSISTED POWER STEERING REBUILD IN 2010, YET THE COMPONENT HAS FAILED AGAIN! GM WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. I WILL PAY FOR A TOW, BUT I WILL NOT PAY FOR THEM TO TELL ME THAT THE ASSISTED POWER STEERING HAS AGAIN FAILED. IF I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY FIND AN ERROR CODE INDICATING THAT THE ASSISTED POWER STEERING HAS FAILED, I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD NOT CHARGE ME AT ALL. FURTHERMORE, THEY SHOULD REPLACE - NOT REBUILD - THIS FAULTY, ILL CONCEIVED DEVICE THAT HAS SUCH POOR DESIGN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14E021000 (COMPONENT NOT LISTED), HOWEVER THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY, THE CAR ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SUDDENLY WENT DEAD FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE DRIVER STEERED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. AFTER IT STOPPED, THE DRIVER PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CURB. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THIS IS MY SECOND E-MAIL TO YOU ABOUT MY TIMING CHAIN BREAKING AND DESTROYING MY ENGINE WHICH I HAD TO REPLACE AT MY EXPENSE ($5,100) BECAUSE GM WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM RESENDING THIS BECAUSE OF THE RECENT RECALL ON COBALTS IGNITION SWITCHES THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO AND DID NOTHING. THE TIMING CHAINS ON THESE MODELS (COBALTS) HAVE BEEN BREAKING FOR YEARS ACCORDING TO 3 MECHANICS I SPOKE TO WHOM ALL SAID THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL YEARS AGO JUST LIKE THE IGNITION SWITCHES THEY IGNORED UP TO NOW. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS DEFECT BECAUSE I HAVE ALSO HERD FROM 5 OTHER COBALT OWNERS WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME.( NOT A COINCIDENCE). *TR

MY COBALT STARTED STICKING UPON ENTERING THE KEY TO IGNITION. SOMETIMES IT STARTED RIGHT AWAY, OTHERS, I HAD TO SIT & WAIT, TRY AGAIN & THEN IT WOULD START. NEVER KNEW IF IT WOULD OR WOULD NOT START. DEALT WITH IT UNTIL I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL. CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE LETTER I RECEIVED IN MARCH 2014, WHEN I MADE MY REPORT ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE APRIL 7, 2014 WHEN MY PARTS WOULD BE IN. CALLED DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN APRIL AROUND THE 22ND 2014 & WAS TOLD THE END OF MAY 2014 THE PARTS WOULD BE IN. ASKED FOR A CAR TO DRIVE UNTIL THEN & THE SERVICE DEPT. @ [XXX] LAUGHED @ ME.....NOW SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IN MY AREA & TO PURCHASE OR LEASE A NEW VEHICLE, I HAVE MUCH ANXIETY & AM WEARY OF TRAVELING @ ALL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE I GOT THE CAR FROM AT HAWK CHEVROLET ABOUT MY CAR PROBLEMS A FEW TIMES, AND THEY DID TRY TO FIX IT, WHICH THEY SAID IT WAS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THEY FIXED THAT BUT THEN...AFTER THAT MULTIPLE OCCASION STARTED TO HAPPEN, MY CAR WOULD TURN OFF JUST BECAUSE.THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND I COULDN'T GET IT OUT. MY TIMING CHAIN BROKE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. I TOOK IT TO MY CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BUT THEY WOULDN'T COVER THE COST. I TOWED IT TO MY MECHANIC TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF $4,500. THAT IS WHEN I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BREAKING IS VERY COMMON ON THIS MODEL CAR. SINCE THIS HAPPENED I HAVE HERD HORROR STORIES FROM OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH THE SAME STRESS WITH GM. I ALSO LOOKED ON LINE AND FOUND MANY OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. IT COST ME $250. TO RELEASE MY CAR TO TOW IT TO MY OWN MECHANIC AND THEY DID ABSOLUTELY NO REPAIRS. I CALLED GM DIRECTLY AND THEY OFFERED NO HELP AT ALL. HAD POWER STEERING REPLACED 2011 RECALL. IN DEC 2013 POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AGAIN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. TOOK TO THE GM DEALERSHIP NEXT DAY. THEY STATED THAT I HAD TO REPLACE POWER STEERING COLUMN. I ASKED THEM IF THIS WAS ORDINARY FOR THESE CARS HE SAID NO THAT HE WOULD CONTACT GM. LATER THAT DAY HE CALLED TO SAY GM WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE TO PAY. I DROVE THE CAR SLOWLY AND PRAY IT DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. TODAY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN BUT THIS TIME ALL THE GAUGES ON CAR WENT CRAZY. FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY BUT I HAVE FULL TANK SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I TRIED TO MAKE IT DOWN DRIVEWAY IT WAS MAKING FUNNY NOISES. *TR
