THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD DEVELOPED A CRACK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN OVERPOWERING GASOLINE FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONSUME MORE FUEL THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS A LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,974.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, SHE BEGAN TO SMELL GASOLINE IN THE CABIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY HAD FAILED SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V459000 AND 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,303 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,403.
I HAVE READ RECALLS ON 2007 CHEVY COBALTS FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM HAVING A CRACK IN THE LINE CAUSING A FUEL LEAK, BUT THE RECALLS ARE FOR CERTAIN STATES. MY CAR WAS FIRST PURCHASED IN INDIANA-AUCTIONED IN OHIO. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THEY STATE THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECALL, BUT IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OTHER RECALLS IN THE OTHER STATES. I THINK IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED, IF YOU SEARCH THE WEB ON COMMON POSTS RELATED PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE TO PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO GET IT FIXED WHEN IT SEEMS TO BE A RECALL. *TR
THE LEFT FRONT SPEAKER QUIT WORKING. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL CHIME DID NOT WORK. WHEN I WAS TRYING TO TROUBLE SHOOT THE PROBLEM I ALSO NOTICED THAT ALL CHIMES (DOOR OPEN, KEY IN THE IGNITION, ETC) WAS NOT WORKING. BASED ON MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THE COBALT HAS A LONG HISTORY OF THIS ISSUE AND IT ALSO APPEARS THAT GM DOESN'T WANT TO ADDRESS IT. *TR
THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF LEAKING GASOLINE. THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL FOR A FUEL LEAK ON THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR, BUT NOT IN VIRGINIA!? I HAVE OWNED NOTHING BUT CHEVY CARS FOR 35 YEARS. I HAD 3 CAVALIERS THAT I CAN'T SAY ONE BAD WORD ABOUT. THIS COBALT STARTED CAUSING ME PROBLEMS IN 2012 AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE STEADILY. I STARTED SMELLING A STRONG SMELL OF GAS FOR A FEW WEEKS AND COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. WHEN I FINALLY TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, THEY TOLD ME THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING AND VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WOULD FIX IT. IT COST OVER 800.00 AND I HAVE NEVER HAD TO PUT THAT KIND OF MONEY INTO A VEHICLE. NOW MY STEREO SPEAKERS AND TURN SIGNAL BLINKER ARE SHUTTING OFF FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN COMING BACK FOR A FEW DAYS AND NO PATTERN ON HOW LONG IT STAYS OR GOES. I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE STEREO AND TO MY SURPRISE I NOT ONLY FOUND A TON OF COMPLAINTS WORSE THAN MINE ABOUT THE STEREO (CARS 2005-2007- YOU THINK THEY WOULD HAVE GOT IT RIGHT AFTER 2 YEARS) BUT THERE WAS A RECALL IN NOV. 2012 FOR THE FUEL TANK MODULE (JUST 3 MONTHS AFTER MINE WENT UP). I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT OTHER THAN CONTACT GM BUT ACCORDING TO OTHER COMPLAINTS THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING. THIS REALLY HAS CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT CHEVY. NOTICED THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE AND GAS LEAKING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. A LARGE PUDDLE OF GASOLINE WOULD BE LEFT UNDER THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED OVERNIGHT OR WHEN LEFT IDLING, EVEN IF ONLY FOR A FEW MINUTES. IT WAS DETERMINED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE LEAK WAS BEING CAUSED BY THE FUEL PUMP. READ ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL PUMP FOR THE 07 CHEVROLET COBALT IN SEVERAL STATES. I CALLED CHEVROLET TO COMPLAIN BUT WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS REGISTERED IN MARYLAND. IT IS MY OPINION THAT CHEVROLET NEEDS TO OPEN THE RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL FAULTY FUEL PUMPS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL VEHICLE AND NOT LIMIT THE RECALL TO SELECT STATES. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 115,000.
2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO GAS TANK SPLITTING AT SEAMS.*TGW
ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE CAR WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY TURN ON WHEN STARTING. IT ALWAYS STARTS WHEN ATTEMPTING A SECOND TIME. A STRONG GAS ODOR WAS NOTICED BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AROUND THIS TIME. GM HAS RECALLED THIS VEHICLE (2007 CHEVROLET COBALT) IN 5 STATES ONLY, BUT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED IN A TON OF STATES, INCLUDING VIRGINIA. *TR
I FIRST NOTICED A FAINT SMELL OF GAS AS I WOULD DRIVE THE CAR. OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 2 WEEKS, IT GOT SO STRONG I WOULD BE NAUSEOUS BY THE TIME I GOT TO WORK. MY CAR ALSO HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING. SINCE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, I WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND NOT THE DEALER DUE TO A BETTER PRICE FOR THE WORK. HE DISCOVERED A CRACK AND I HAD A FUEL LEAK, WHICH HE PROMPTLY FIXED. I HAVE THE RECEIPT AND DOCUMENTATION FOR THE WORK. NOW THERE IS A RECALL, BUT NOT IN MY STATE. IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT CAN I DO? SHOULD I NOTIFY GENERAL MOTORS OR WAIT AND SEE IF I DO GET A RECALL? ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 42,664. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
FUEL PUMP ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT BEGAN LEAKING AUGUST, 2012. I CHECKED INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP ON THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. I CONSULTED THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND WAS TOLD RECALL WAS ONLY EFFECTIVE FOR COBALT VEHICLES SOLD IN CERTAIN SOUTHERN STATES. SINCE I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE FUEL PUMP REPLACED, I HAD PUMP REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. I PHONED CHEVROLET NATIONAL REP IN DECEMBER, 2012, TO QUESTION WHY FUEL PUMP WAS ONLY BEING RECALLED IN 'HOT WEATHER' STATES WHEN TEMPERATURES WERE CONSISTENTLY IN THE 90'S IN THE CHICAGO AREA IN THE SUMMER OF 2012. I WAS TOLD THAT CHEVROLET WAS LOOKING INTO THE MATTER AND WOULD LET ME KNOW THEIR DECISION BY THE END OF JANUARY, 2013. OF COURSE, I NEVER HEARD FROM NATIONAL CHEVY REP OR CHEVY DEALER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I FEEL THAT ISSUING A RECALL FOR ONLY CERTAIN STATES IS UNFAIR (DISCRIMINATORY?), ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PUMP PROBLEM I HAD WITH MY VEHICLE WAS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. ALSO, IF THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO WARM TEMPERATURE (CLIMATE) SITUATIONS, I BELIEVE THE TEMPERATURES IN THE CHICAGO AREA IN THE SUMMER OF 2012 WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY MET THAT REQUIREMENT. AT MINIMUM, I AM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY @ $310.89. IDEALLY, I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE TOTAL COST OF REPLACING THE PUMP, WHICH WAS $577.32. LASTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO STATE THAT I'M NOTIFYING NHTSA OF THIS SITUATION BECAUSE IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WITH FUEL VISIBLY LEAKING FROM THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP, THE CHANCE OF THE VEHICLE CATCHING FIRE FROM A SPARK OR IMPACT IS DANGEROUSLY ELEVATED. I BELIEVE A NATIONWIDE RECALL ON ALL 2007 CHEVROLET COBALTS IS IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCE OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OCCURRING FROM THIS SITUATION. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,500.

AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY THE CONTACT IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING IN THE HOUSING THAT HELD THE FUEL PUMP. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.

STARTED TO NOTICE DIFFICULTY WHEN TRYING TO START MY CAR AND THE VERY STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE WHEN THE CAR WAS IN OPERATION AND FOR A PERIOD AFTER. I HAD AN INSPECTION DONE AT A GM DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE SAME FUEL PUMP CRACKING. DESPITE RECALL 09V419000, WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE'S VIN DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR ANY RECALLS. *TR

MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT BEGAN LEAKING FUEL WHICH SENT STRONG VAPORS INTO THE CAR CAUSING ME TO NEARLY FAINT. AFTER RESEARCHING 2007 CHEVY COBALT RECALLS, I FOUND THAT IT WAS RECALLED IN 2009 FOR A DEFECTIVE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH CAN CAUSE FIRES. WHEN I NOTIFIED TWO DIFFERENT TUCSON CHEVY DEALERSHIPS OF THIS DEFECT AND REQUESTED IT BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, BOTH TURNED ME AWAY SAYING MY VIN IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, THOUGH IT IS THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. I EVEN TOOK IN FORMS PROVING THAT THE RECALLS FOR THE 2007 CHEVY COBALT DID NOT STATE IT IS ONLY ON CERTAIN ONES. *TR
MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT WAS PURCHASED NEW FEBRUARY 2007. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 24,800 MILES ON IT WHEN I STARTED SMELLING GAS IN JULY OF THIS YEAR 2012, THIS YEAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO GET A OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THERE WAS A LEAK UNDER THE VEHICLE AND TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC. THAT IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WENT HOME AND CHECKED ON LINE ABOUT GAS LEAKS ON A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE MODEL CARS IN 2010. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS AND HAZARDOUS SITUATION. I ALSO LEARNED THAT THE STATE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE(IN MARYLAND) WAS NOT ONE OF THE STATES FOR THE RECALL. I CALLED MY NEAREST CHEVROLET DEALER AND TOLD HIM OF THIS PROBLEM BUT I WAS INFORMED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED AND IT WAS THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECTED PART. A FUEL PUMP FOR THIS TYPE OF CAR SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 60,000 MILES. I BABYSIT FOR A LIVING AND THERE IS A SMALL CHILD IN MY VEHICLE ALMOST EVERYDAY. THIS COULD OF CAUSED SOMEONE TO LOSE THEIR LIVES OVER GM'S NEGLECT. WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY I PARKED MY CAR FOR 2 MONTHS UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY TO PAY FOR GM'S PROBLEM. SO NOW I AM OUT OF MONEY TO HAVE SOMETHING FIXED THAT WAS NO FAULT OF MY OWN. I FEEL GM SHOULD REIMBURSE EVERYONE WHO HAD THIS PROBLEM REGARDLESS OF WHAT STATE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN. I AM INFORMING ALL OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF THIS AND TELLING THEM NEVER TO BUY A GM CAR. THIS IS A TERRIBLE WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS. THEY ARE PUTTING PEOPLES LIVES IN DANGER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT AUTO SHOP AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO BOTH STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. IT APPEARED TO BE A FATIGUE FAILURE. A NEW GM PUMP ASSY WAS INSTALLED AT A COST OF $600. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN OKLAHOMA AND STILL HAS OKLAHOMA PLATES. UPON SEARCHING FOR A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, I LOCATED THE RECALL BUT GM CUT IT OFF AT 19000 VEHICLES BEFORE MINE. THEY MUST HAVE ASSUMED THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT APPARENTLY THE FIX DID NOT WORK ACCORDING TO THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT ARE STILL COMING IN. I AM GLAD I DID NOT PARK THE CAR IN MY ATTACHED GARAGE OR THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A FIRE STARTED FROM THE STRONG FUMES CREATED BY THE LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL BEING FORCED OUT OF THE SUPPLY TUBE WHICH IS UNDER PRESSURE FROM THE PUMP. AT THE BEGINNING OF JULY MY HUSBAND AND I INVESTIGATED AND DISCOVERED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. WE REMOVED THE FUEL TANK AND DISCOVERED A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY.
