I BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM TIME TO TIME WHEN DRIVING MY CAR. OVER TIME, THE SMELL BECAME STRONGER AND I NOTICED I WAS HAVING TO FILL MY TANK MORE FREQUENTLY. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I COULD ACTUALLY SEE A LEAK UNDERNEATH OF MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO AN AUTOSHOP TO BE LOOKED AT AND THEY MENTIONED WORK NEEDING TO BE DONE ON MY FUEL PUMP, BUT I FOUND OUT ABOUT A RECALL ON 2007 AND 2006 CHEVROLET COBALTS (I DRIVE A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT). THE RECALL MENTIONED A LEAK, AN ODOR AND A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL DIDN'T CONCERN MY SPECIFIC VIN. I'M STILL EXTREMELY CONCERNED, SEEING AS THE PROBLEMS I'M HAVING WITH MY CHEVROLET COBALT SOUND IDENTICAL TO THE ISSUES RAISED IN THE RECALL OF THESE OTHER CHEVROLET COBALTS. I'VE ALREADY HAD TO TAKE MY COBALT TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING RECALL. FYI, SEE BELOW. THANK YOU! RECALL DATE: OCT 29, 2009 MODEL AFFECTED: 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. SUMMARY: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT AND SATURN ION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA AND NEVADA; AND MODEL YEAR 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT, PONTIAC G5 AND SATURN ION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, FLORIDA, NEVADA AND TEXAS. THE PLASTIC SUPPLY OR RETURN PORT ON THE MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY MAY CRACK. IF EITHER OF THESE PORTS DEVELOPS A CRACK, FUEL WILL LEAK FROM THE AREA. IF THE CRACK BECOMES LARGE ENOUGH, FUEL MAY BE OBSERVED DRIPPING ONTO THE GROUND AND VEHICLE PERFORMANCE MAY BE AFFECTED. CONSEQUENCE: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. *KB
WHEN COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. IT DOES THIS AT RANDOM TIMES, TODAY AT STOP SIGN THE CAR SPEEDOMETER ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH AND CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP. NO CODES TO READ NOR DID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. *KB
STRONG SMELL OF GAS WHEN IM DRIVING THE CAR IN AND OUTSIDE. THE CAR HAS TROUBLE STARTING, I HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK. CALLED GM AND WAS TOLD EVEN THOUGH THEIR WAS A SPECIAL COVERAGE FOR MY STATE THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE LEAK. THIS IS A DANGEROUS LEAK DUE TO A FAULTY PLASTIC PART. I HOPE MY FAMILY DOESN'T DIE FROM INHALING FUMES OR BLOW UP. KINDA MAKES YOU THINK ITS ANOTHER PINTO EXPLODING GAS TANK DEAL. I GUESS THEY WONT DO ANYTHING UNTIL SOMEONE DIES. I HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR STARTING A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT NEW. KNOCKING WHEN THE ENGINE STARTS, USING OIL NOW, AIRBAGS NOT WORKING, SMALL ELECTRICAL THINGS KEEP GOING WRONG. WHEN I TAKE IT IN IM TOLD THEY CANT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEMS. *KB
FUEL LEAK AROUND THE TOP OF FUEL TANK. FUEL SMELL. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, FUEL FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE PLASTIC SUPPLY FUEL MODULE IN THE FUEL TANK CRACKED, CAUSING A LEAKAGE. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED HER THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AND THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS; THEREFORE, SHE HAD TO PAY THE REPAIR COST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A DAIRY QUEEN WHEN THE CAR VEERED INTO THE LEFT LANE. OUT OF MY CONTROL. WAS VERY DIFFICULT MANEUVERING TURNS. THE POWER STEERING RECALL WAS REPLACED BUT NOW THEY ARE SAYING THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS REPLACED. ANOTHER $800. I HAVE A INFANT SO I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT AT ALL. *TR

THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL, THE VEHICLE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR THE REPAIR AS A RESULT OF NOT BEING CURRENTLY REGISTERED OR SOLD IN THE UNITED STATES AS INDICATED WITHIN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
I BEGAN SMELLING FUEL, ESPECIALLY PARKED ON AN INCLINE. I FILLED UP MY GAS TANK, AND WITNESSED LOOSING OVER 1/2 A TANK OF GAS! I AM TERRIFIED TO PUT MORE THAN 5 GALLONS OF GAS NOW. ANYTIME I PUT ANY AMOUNT OF GASOLINE IN, THE FUMES ARE VERY STRONG INSIDE AS WELL AS OUTSIDE OF MY VEHICLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND I CANNOT EVEN GET THIS CAR INSPECTED SINCE I LIVE IN NORTH TEXAS (DENTON). I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THERE ARE NO RECALLS! THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR WAS 1100.00 WHICH IS MORE THAN 25% OF IT'S VALUE. THEY SAID IT DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL. I BOUGHT THE CAR AND LIVE IN TEXAS. SO FAR I HAVE HAD THE STEERING ASSEMBLY REPLACED (RECALL) AS WELL AS THE WINDSHIELD (NOT A RECALL BUT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I AM SO TERRIFIED OF DYING IN THIS CAR AND NO ONE WANTS TO FIX IT FOR UNDER 1100.00! *TT
OWNER HEARD CLUNKING NOISE IN RIGHT FRONT. FOUND THE TIRE MOVES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. DEALER FOUND RIGHT FRONT CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS WORN AND RIGHT FRONT STRUT WORN. OWNER FOUND LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT STRUT TO BE LEAKING AND RIGHT CONTROL ARM BADLY WORN. CORPORATION RECOMMENDED ONLY RIGHT SIDE CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS AND RIGHT SIDE STRUT TO BE FIXED. NOTHING WAS DONE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OWNER REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIR SINCE THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 25,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

IN ADDITION, A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE FOR AN INSPECTION AND DETECTED THE INEXPENSIVE PLASTIC LINES CRACKED ON THE FUEL TANK MODULE. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP) WAS RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

I SMELLED A STRONG GAS ODOR AND THE MINUTES LATER HALF OF MY GAS WAS LEAKING OUT ONTO THE PARKING LOT WITH GAS SO HIGH IT IS EXPENSIVE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP SAID I HAD A CRACK IN MY FILLER NECK OF THE FUEL TANK AND THAT IT WOULD BE $1150 TO GET IT FIXED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED TO AND THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS TO REPLACE THE GEAR SHIFT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER ARE IN THE VEHICLE OR IF NO ONE IS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE AIRBAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE STILL RECURRED. THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THE CODES HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED DUE TO HAVING TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO REMOVE THE KEY MORE THAN ONCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17000. *TR
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION IN APRIL 2007, AT APPROX. 50,000 MILES MY CAR STARTED TO MISS, THEN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN AND LUNGE AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP. WE BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO DEALER WHERE PURCHASED, WE WERE THEN SENT ON "WILD GOOSE CHASE," FIRST WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A FUEL PEDAL SENSOR, NXT THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER, FOLLOWED BY THE WIRING HARNESS, THIS HOWEVER, DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT BACK FOR A FOURTH TIME AND THE ENDED UP REBUILDING THE HEAD ON THE MOTOR, CAR HAS NOT RAN CORRECTLY EVER SINCE. WE TRIED TO FILE A LEMON LAW CLAIM BUT NEEDED FOUR RECEIPTS TO PROVE WARRANTY WORK, WE HAD THREE AND AFTER THE FOURTH WHEN PICKED UP CAR THE DEALER WOULD NOT RELEASE FOURTH, THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. MY CAR NOW HAS 88,000 MILES ON IT, IT IS BEGINNING TO IDLE ROUGH AGAIN AND WHEN I PUT FUEL IN IT, THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO START, AT FIRST IT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING, AND THEN IT WILL TRY TO TURN OVER BUT WILL NOT START I THEN HAVE TO SLAM THE FUEL TO IT IN ORDER TO GET IT STARTED, ONCE IT STARTS IT WILL IDLE ROUGH AND I HAVE TO KEEP GIVING IT FUEL IN ORDER FOR THE IDLE TO SMOOTH. THIS IS THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED, I WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO EVER BUY ANOTHER CHEVY!!!!!!! *TR

AT 54000 MILES A "CLUNKING" NOISE BEGAN FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP OR GOING OVER MODERATE BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IM AT 57000 NOW AND THE NOISE HAS TRANSFERRED TO THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO. HAVE NOT YET HAD THE CHANCE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT I FEEL ITS SAFE TO ASSUME MY PROBLEM IS GOING TO BE THE SAME AS ALL THE REST. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WITHIN 20 MILES AFTER REFUELING TO CAPACITY, THE FUEL TANK HAD BURNED ONE QUARTER OF A TANK OF GASOLINE. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS AN OVERPOWERING ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM WITHIN THE VEHICLE. THE OVERPOWERING ODOR WOULD CAUSE THE CONTACT HEADACHES WHENEVER SHE OPERATED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO ASSIST WITH THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE SHUTS OFF WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON. SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART THEN IT WILL BE FINE FOR A WHILE. I THINK IT IS SENSOR ON THE SEATBELT RETRACTOR. *TR

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT WITH A LEAKING SUNROOF. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED 4 TIMES. I WAS TOLD: IT CANNOT BE FIXED PERMANENTLY, DON'T PARK IT OUTSIDE IN THE ELEMENTS, BRING IT IN REGULARLY TO HAVE THE DRAIN LINES CLEARED OUT, ETC. IT HAS BEEN PARKED UNDER OUR CARPORT ALL WINTER. TOOK IT OUT 2 DAYS AGO AND IT RAINED LAST NIGHT.... IT LEAKS! THE CAR SMELLS AND IT ONLY HAS 21,000 MILES ON IT. A CAR WITH A SUNROOF/MOONROOF SHOULD BE MADE TO DRIVE OUT IN THE ELEMENTS. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS CARS WITH THE SAME KIND OF ROOF AND IT NEVER LEAKED. THE CAR IS FAULTY AND I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. SPOKE TO GM EXECUTIVE OFFICE AND THE SAID "BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED". LESSON: IF YOUR ROOF LEAKS ON A GM CAR, GET A NEW ONE! VERY POOR CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND SERVICE. *TR
2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE IGNITION REPLACED. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WENT TO THE DEALER, TO HAVE THE IGNITION REPLACED, AND IT COST $478.31. THE CONSUMER STATED THE IGNITION WAS REPLACED TWICE. *JB
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SWAY BAR LINKS, CONTROL ARM BUSHING AND THE SHIFTER IN ORDER TO GET MY CAR INSPECTED THIS YEAR. ANOTHER PROBLEM I HAVE IS THE BLINKERS NOT MAKING THE CLICKING SOUND, THEY WORK BUT I WAS TOLD I HAVE TO REPLACE MY FRONT SPEAKER. I FEEL LIKE THAT IS A LOT TO GO WRONG WITH A VEHICLE IN ONE YEAR. I ALSO THINK THAT THESE PROBLEMS SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED THIS EARLY. I ONLY HAVE 57,000 MILES ON MY CAR. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE WITH THESE VEHICLES SEEING HOW THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR CARS.
LOUD NOISE/CLUNKING WHILE GOING OVER MINOR TO MODERATE BUMPS AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE 'GRABS" WHEN APPLYING BRAKE AND "JUMPS WHEN RELEASING. HAVE HAD PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARING REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AS WELL AS POWER ASSISTED STEERING MOTOR UNDER RECALL. VEHICLE IS DRIVEN VERY LITTLE DUE TO OUT OF STATE WORK. I HAVE NOT HAD IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION BUT PLAN TO DO SO SOON. *KB

ALSO, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME STIFF WHEN ATTEMPTING A TURN. A LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS DEFECTIVE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,600.

I PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW IN 2007. THE FRONT SUSPENSION STARTED TO MAKE LOTS OF CLUNKING NOISES AND RATTLING WHENEVER I WENT OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE REPLACED L FRONT CONTROL ARM TWICE. THE MECHANIC SAID THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THOSE PROBLEMS WITH THE CARS CURRENT MILEAGE. I ALSO HAVE VERY DANGEROUS SOUND IN STEERING COLUMN EVERY TIME I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL.
