THIS FAILURE IS OF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM CAUSING UNPREDICTABLE MOVEMENT AND OR CONTROL OF AUTOMOBILE. THIS IS A LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING WITH A DEFECTIVE DESIGN CAUSING IT TO FAIL. THIS REPAIR IS APPROXIMATELY $400. THERE IS 2 ON EACH AUTO. THIS REPAIR HAS HAPPENED FREQUENTLY TO THIS CONSUMER IN THAT CONSUMER HAS 2 OF THESE AUTOS.*LN
CRACKING SOUND IN FRONT END. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN DECEMBER 2008, THE IGNITION FAILED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION CYLINDER. MARCH 2010, THE CONTACT HEARD A METAL GRINDING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT STRUTS, BUSHINGS, CONTROL ARM SHAFT AND STABILIZER BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BUSHING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT TWO TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE STRUTS. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000. UPDATED 01/12/11*LJ UPDATED 03/28/11
COULDN'T TURN KEY TO START THE CAR. THE CAR WAS IN PARK. TO GET THE CAR TO START I MUST GIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL, WHILE TRYING TO TURN THE KEY. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. *TR
CAR HAS A HARD YANK AFTER COMING TO A STOP AND STARTING OFF. KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF CAR SINCE DAY ONE OF PURCHASE. VIBRATION IN ACCELERATOR AND GEAR SHIFTER. LIGHTS ON INTERIOR OF CAR DASHBOARD GOES ON AND OFF. PROBLEM STILL HAPPENING TODAY AND THE TSM WAS REPLACED AS WELL, AS THEY ALWAYS SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER CAME ON AT ANYTIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED. IT HAPPENS AFTER CAR IS DRIVEN AND HEATED UP. ONLY HAPPENED WHEN LONG TRIP OVER 50 MILES, NOW SINCE IGNITION HAS BEEN CHANGED ON CALL BACK. PROBLEMS HAS WORSENED LIGHTS ON AND OFF, TRANSMISSION HARD SHIFT WHEN DRIVING SHORT TRIPS AS WELL AS A CONSTANT VIBRATION. KNOCKING COMING FROM GAS TANK SIDE OF CAR WAS MAINLY DURING COOLER WEATHER NOW HAPPENED WHEN DAY WAS ABOVE 90 DEGREES. ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE I THINK AND HAS CAUSED MANY PROBLEMS AND EVEN DEATHS. DO NOT THINK IT WAS KEYS IGNITION. I SERIOUSLY THINK IS IN THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. PROBLEM SHOULD OF BEEN FIXED WHEN 1ST REPORTED, BUT THEY ONLY RESET THE TRANS COMPUTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WHEN SHE CRASHED INTO A WIRE HANGING FROM A LIGHT POLE. THE IMPACT CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ROLLED OVER FROM THE FORCE. THE DRIVER WA S NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT AND WAS FATALLY INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
PURCHASED USED 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT NOV 08 35,503 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 2 DEC 08. DEALER SWITCHED OUT CAM SENSOR FUSE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON END OF JAN 09 IN GERMANY. GERMAN MECHANIC TURNED LIGHT OFF. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON A FEW DAYS LATER, BUT CONTINUED TO DRIVE. POWER STEERING STARTED TO FAIL SEP 09. CAR INTERMITTENTLY LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING. PULLED OVER, TURNED KEY TO OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, TURNED THE KEY, AND THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITH NO PROBLEM. POWER STEERING KIT REPLACED END OF NOV 09. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. AFTER 1 MONTH OF USE, THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST BEGAN GIVING OUT ON RANDOM INTERVALS AND CONTINUES TO DO SO TO THIS DAY. THE FAILURE DOES NOT OCCUR AT PREDICTABLE INTERVALS, SOMETIMES TAKING A FEW MINUTES FOLLOWING THE START OF DRIVING, UP TO A HALF HOUR. THIS HAS ALMOST LEAD TO MANY ACCIDENTS DUE TO STEERING GOING OUT DURING A TURN. *TR

POWER STEERING FAILS ON 2007 CHEVY COBALT RESEARCHED TO FIND OUT WHAT TO DO TO FIX, CHEVY DEALERS WANT $2000.00 TO REPLACE AS NOW I FIND OVER 275 PEOPLE ON A "HOW TO REPAIR IT" WEBSITE HAVING SAME PROBLEM & WONDERING WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE RECALLED, AFTER SO MANY DEATHS? *TR
ON NOVEMBER 13TH I FELT SOMETHING WRONG WHEN DRIVING HOME. I STOPPED AT SAM'S CLUB AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE. THEY STATED IT WAS AT 40-42. THE ATTENDANT LET THE AIR OUT TO 29. HE SAID THE TIRES LOOKED OK AND SUGGESTED HAVE THE ALIGNMENT CHECKING. WHILE ON THE FREEWAY HOME, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. I THOUGHT I HAD HIT SOMETHING, PULLED OVER AND KICKED EACH TIRE FOR DAMAGE (IT WAS DARK). THERE WAS AIR IN ALL TIRES SO I DECIDED TO GO THE LAST 5 MILES HOME. IMMEDIATELY DRIVING A FEW FEET I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I CALLED A TOW AND THE OPERATOR SAID THE TREAD SEPARATED. WE HAD THE CAR DROPPED OFF AT GARRETT MOTORS. THE NEXT MORNING WE TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. LATER THEY CALLED SAYING IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE TIRE WAS UNDERINFLATED AND THAT WAS WHY IT BECAME SEPARATED. WE TOLD THEM WE HAD PROOF THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS AT THE CORRECT LEVEL 20 MINUTES BEFORE, AND THAT THE TIRE FELT IT HAD AIR (GARRETT CLAIMED IT WAS 10PSI-VISUAL OBSERVATION DID NOT SHOW THAT SMALL AMOUNT OF AIR). GARRETT REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY CITING IT WAS OPERATOR ERROR. THEY ALSO SAID THAT ALL OTHER TIRES NEEDED REPLACEMENT. GARRETT REFUSED TO REPLACE ANY OF THE TIRES OR FIX THE BODY DAMAGE TO THE CAR DUE TO THE TIRE TREAD HITTING THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I CAN NOT REMEMBER THE DATE OR MILEAGE OF FIRST OCCURRENCE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN JULY 2006 NEW. THE MAIN ANNOYANCE WITH THIS CAR IS THE BUSHINGS. I HAVE GOTTEN THEM FIXED 3 TIMES SINCE 06, AND YET MAKING THE NOISE AGAIN WHEN I BREAK WHICH INDICATES THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. SECOND ANNOYANCE IS THE RADIO, I HAVE HAD MY SPEAKERS REPLACED AS ONLY THE BACK ONES WOULD WORK. EVERY WINTER MY SPEAKERS GO OUT, ONE DAY WILL BE THE LEFT FRONT, NEXT DAY WILL BE FRONT RIGHT - THEY CHOOSE WHEN THEY WANT TO WORK AND WHEN THEY DO NOT WANT TO, AND THE OTHER DAY NONE OF THE SOUND WOULD WORK! THIRD MY RPM'S WILL RANDOMLY SHOOT UP WHILE I'M DRIVING, GOING AT A CONSTANT SPEED. NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THIS CAR... *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND IGNITION KEY COULDN'T MOVE LEFT OR RIGHT. CALLED DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. I FEAR THAT WHEEL WILL LOCK WHILE I'M DRIVING. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 2007 COBALT IN JULY 2008, USED ONLY AS A RENTAL CAR WITH ENTERPRISE, WITH 34K MILES. WITHIN 2 MONTHS, MY ROTORS WERE WARPED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MILWAUKEE HAS A TERRIBLE PROBLEM W/ POTHOLES SO I'VE HAD TO PUT 4 NEW RIMS AND TIRES ON IT TOO AND AN ALIGNMENT. IT STILL SHAKES WHEN I GO BETWEEN 45-60MPH. ALSO, THE GEAR SHIFT KEEPS GETTING LOCKED IN PARK, LIKE A SENSOR IS BROKEN OR SOMETHING. I HAVE TO CONTINUOUSLY PRESS ON THE BRAKE UNTIL IT GIVES. AND THERE MUST BE A SHORT SOMEWHERE BECAUSE OCCASIONALLY THE BLINKERS NOISE (TICK TICK) AND THE LEFT SPEAKER GO OUT, COME BACK ON, GO OUT, ETC. I'VE HAD THE CAR 8 MONTHS AND HAVE THIS MANY PROBLEMS WITH IT? OF COURSE THE DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING AN ARM AND LEG FOR REPAIRS THAT I CAN'T AFFORD BUT I THINK THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THESE PROBLEMS CAN BE "OPERATOR ERROR." THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM! I CAN UNDERSTAND THE TIRES & RIMS BECAUSE I'VE HIT TOO MANY POTHOLES BUT EVERYTHING ELSE? COME ON. ANYONE ELSE COMPLAINED ABOUT SIMILAR ISSUES? *TR

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED FAILURE WITH THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND THE POWER STEERING MOTOR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
2007 2 DR CHEVY COBALT = - 40,000 MILES ( HIGHWAY ) AT 37,000 MILES I HAD THE LEFT FRONT CONTROL ARM BUSHING FAIL, AT 39,000 I HAD THE RIGHT ONE FAIL I HAD THE LEFT CONTROL ARM REPLACED AND I AM HAVING THE RIGHT ONE REPLACED TODAY BY MY BROTHER -IN-LAW OUT OF A TRANS SHOP IN ALLEN PARK DEALER SAYS THERE ARE NO ISSUES ( SERVICE BULL ) WITH THE CONTROL ARM BUSHING AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY ( I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER ON BOTH FAILURES, AS WELL AS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE ). BEING IN THE INDUSTRY, I HAVE CONTACTED PEOPLE IN THE INDUSTRY AND VERIFY THAT THERE WAS PROBLEM WITH THE BUSHING IN THE PROTOTYPE PHASE AND EARLY PRODUCTION BUSHING SHOULD NOT JUST COME OUT OF THERE CASING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE HEIGHT OF THE OTHER VEHICLE PROBABLY DID NOT TRIGGER THE AIR BAG SENSOR. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED BECAUSE THE FRONT END WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT ALERTED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE MESSAGE CENTER INFORMED HER THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS MALFUNCTIONING. SIMULTANEOUSLY, SHE NOTICED THAT SHE COULD NO LONGER TURN THE VEHICLE. IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL OPERATE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44,298.
MY 2007 CHEVY COBOLT WAS DRIVING FINE THEN ABOUT 4 WEEKS AGO IT STARTED DRIVING WEIRD, NOW THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IT IN A PARKING LOT PRACTICING FOR HER LICENSE!!!! SHE WAS SO UPSET WHEN SHE CAME HOME THAT IT TOOK ME ALMOST A WEEK TO GET HER TO DRIVE MY TRUCK!!!!!!!! WE CHANGED ONE OF THE FUSES AND IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND TODAY IT WENT OUT AGAIN AS I WAS TAKING ONE OF MY KIDS TO WORK.. WE WERE ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND AS I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO HER WORK!!!! *TR
I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GET IT CHECKED DUE TO A POPPING NOISE WHILE TURNING, I WAS TOLD THE CONTROL ARM BRUSHING (BUSHING) WAS BROKEN. THE PART WAS REPLACED. THEN 4 MONTHS LATER THE POPPING NOISE RETURNED. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS AGAIN THE CONTROL ARM BRUSHING (BUSHING). AGAIN, IT WAS REPLACED. IN ABOUT 8 WEEKS, THE POPPING NOISE RETURNED AGAIN. I KNEW WHAT IT WAS BY THEN AND I LEFT IT GO FOR AWHILE. IT WAS REPLACED IN DECEMBER OF 2012. AGAIN IT IS BROKEN AS I FILE THIS REPORT AND HAS BEEN FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT AND AT APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES BEGAN HAVING SOME SLIGHT VIBRATIONS WHEN BRAKING. I WENT TO HAVE THE BRAKES CHECKED TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OKAY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKE PADS WERE GOOD. I DROVE MORE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES AND THE VIBRATIONS INCREASED. I FINALLY ENDED UP GETTING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AT 26000 AND THEY TOLD ME MY ROTORS WERE WARPED AND THEY RESURFACED THEM AND THEY WERE FIXED. NOW ONLY AN ADDITIONAL 15000 MILES AND THE VIBRATION IS BACK BUT EVEN WORSE. I BELIEVE THEY JUST RESURFACED THEM KNOWING THAT THEY ARE MALFUNCTIONING SO THAT WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP BACK TO INFORM THEM THAT THEY ARE NOT FIXED THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS MY OWN MAINTENANCE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE. I AM AT A LOSS AS NEW ROTORS WILL SURELY FIND THE SAME FATE AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE ROTORS EVERY 15,000 - 20,000 MILES. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT I EVEN HAD TO HAVE ROTORS RESURFACED OR REPLACED WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE. VERY DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET THAT THIS IS NOT BEING RESEARCHED AND RECALLED BY CHEVROLET AS A DEFECT AND SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE TURNED. THE ROTORS HAD BEEN TURNED TWICE WITHIN 32,000 MILES. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS THEIR POLICY TO ONLY TURN THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
I AM AN UNFORTUNATE OWNER OF ONE OF THE WORST CARS EVER MADE, A CHEVROLET COBALT. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2008 WITH HOPES THAT IT WOULD STAND UP TO MY OLDER CAVALIER AND SUNFIRE. I WAS SADLY WRONG ABOUT MY CHOICE. AFTER ONLY TWO MONTHS OF OWNING MY VEHICLE (I BOUGHT IT AT A USED CAR CENTRE WITH 54000 KMS. JIM GILBERTS IN FREDERICTON, NB) AND 500 KMS OVER MY 60000K WARRANTY MY SWAY BAR LINKS HAD TO BE REPLACED. ONE MONTH AFTER I REPLACED THEM I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. AFTER REPLACING ALL OF THAT I STARTED TO HEAR RATTLING COMING FROM MY STEERING WHEEL. I CAME TO FIND OUT THAT MY STEERING COLUMN WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. BEFORE I BOUGHT MY CAR I HAD A VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT DONE AND IT CAME BACK CLEAN. IT WAS USED AS A CITY COURIER CAR. I HAD THOUGHT THAT MAYBE BECAUSE OF CITY DRIVING THESE PARTS HAD BEEN WORN OUT PREMATURELY. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. ALMOST ALL OF THEM CLAIM THAT THESE PROBLEMS WERE WITH CARS BOUGHT DIRECTLY OFF THE LOT. I KNOW 5 PEOPLE PERSONALLY WHO ALSO HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAD HIS STEERING COLUMN REPLACED 4 TIMES. I REPLACED MY SWAY BAR LINKS TWICE AND THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AND I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. I HAVE YET REPLACED MY STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE I CAN NOT AFFORD THE BILL. I HAVE LEARNED OF THE RECENT RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THAT IS ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT I DON'T HAVE, YET. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW RECALLS ARE DECIDED ON? DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT FOR THESE COMPANIES TO TAKE SOME KIND OF ACTION? 2007 CHEVY COBALT- MANY PROBLEMS, ELECTRICAL COMES OFF AND ON, CAR RIDES LIKE A BUCKET OF BOLTS, AT 50,000 KMS FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL HAD 1 1/2 INCH MOVEMENT WHILE PARKED. VERY DANGEROUS. WHY NO RECALLS FOR THESE ISSUES? THE FIXER OF THE CAR REPLACED A SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM BUSHING. ALL KINDS OF NOISE, ALL POT HOLES I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS GOING TO FALL APART. HUNK OF JUNK CAR. MANY SAFETY ISSUES SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR SAGGING DOORS ON TWO DOOR MODEL, IRREGULAR IDOL, RATTLING SOUNDS IN THE FRONT END TO NO AVAIL. THANK GOD I ONLY LEASED IT, THEY CAN KEEP IT, IT IS A HUNK OF JUNK. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE. *TR
2007 CHEVY COBALT SS, FRONT BRAKE ROTORS OBTAIN DANGEROUS RUNOUT CONDITIONS. IN MY CASE THE ORIGINAL SET LASTED 8000 MILES, AND THE REPLACEMENT OBTAINED FROM DEALER IN JULY 2007 LASTED 20000 MILES. SYMPTOMS OF THIS RUNOUT INCLUDE HEAVY SHUTTER OF BRAKE PEDAL AND STEERING WHEEL AT FREEWAY SPEEDS DOWN TO ABOUT 30MPH AND NOTICEABLE THUMPING IN STEERING WHEEL AT FREEWAY SPEEDS WHEN NOT APPLYING BRAKES. RUNOUT ON ROTORS IS SO SEVERE THAT IT ACTUALLY CAUSES A RIDE DISTURBANCE WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES. HAVE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH SIERRA CHEVROLET IN MONROVIA TO NO AVAIL. WAS SIMPLY TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE NEW ROTORS. NO REMEDY APPEARS TO BE AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THERE IS A POOR DESIGN OF ROTORS OR SOME TYPE OF ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE PADS BEING TOO AGGRESSIVE. SUSPECT ROTORS OBTAIN HEAVY GROOVING WITHIN A FEW THOUSAND MILES. AFTER GROOVING IS NOTICED, THE VIBRATIONS BEGIN VERY SUBTLE SOON AFTER AND PROGRESS TO THE POINT TO WHERE THE VIBRATIONS ARE NOTICEABLE EVEN WHEN NOT APPLYING BRAKES. I AM ON MY THIRD SET OF ROTORS, AND AM FEARFUL THAT GENERAL MOTORS WILL NEVER PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT PERHAPS A LESS AGGRESSIVE BRAKE PAD NEEDS TO BE USED OR SOME KIND OF PROBLEM EXISTS WITH HOW THE ROTORS SEATS TO THE HUB. I AM ONLY FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM ON THE SS MODELS, I ALSO HAVE A 2005 COBALT BASE MODEL THAT HAS NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES WHAT SO EVER. MANY COMPLAINTS NOTICED ON THE WEB FORUMS FOR SS COBALTS. THESE PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED TO THEIR LOCAL DEALERS TO NO AVAIL ALSO. I HAVE RUN OUT OF OPTIONS, OTHER THAN TO KEEP AN EXTRA SET OF PADS AND ROTORS AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES AT THE COST OF 450 DOLLARS PER SET. JUST WOULDN'T START ONE DAY. IT'S AN 07 COBALT - CHEVY NEW CAR THAT I FINANCED WITH ABOUT 20,000 MILES ON IT. I PLAYED AROUND WITH THE SHIFTER AND IT STARTED! NOW IT DOES IT AT LEAST ONCE DAILY. IT USUALLY TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO GET IT STARTED. THE ENGINE WILL JUST CLICK AND THE BATTERY COMES ON, ALL THE LIGHTS ETC. IN JULY 2008 MY 2007 COBALT STARTING MAKING THUNKING AND CLUNKING NOISES WHEN TURNING OR GOING OVER BUMPS. THE LOCAL GM DEALER FOUND A WARN SWAY BAR LINK AND A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN, BOTH OF WHICH THEY REPLACED. IN JANUARY 2009 THE SAME NOISE STARTED AGAIN WHEN I WOULD GO OVER BUMPS. THIS PRIMARILY WOULD HAPPEN AT LOWER SPEEDS (20-45 MPH). I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO MY LOCAL GM DEALER AND THEY FOUND A LOOSE SWAY BAR LINK AND REPLACED IT. NOW, IN FEBRUARY 2009, THE SAME NOISE IS OCCURING GOING OVER BUMPS AT LOWER SPEEDS. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECT THE CAR AND HE FOUND THE BACK BUSHINGS OF THE FRONT CONTROL ARM ARE BAD AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE STRUT IS LEAKING. THIS CAR HAS ONLY 28,000 MILES ON IT, AND IS ONLY 18 MONTHS OLD. I PLAN ON TAKING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER IT WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED FROM ON MONDAY 2/23/09 TO HAVE THESE ISSUED HOPEFULLY RESOLVED. *TR

JUNE 29TH, 2008, MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT ON A SINGLE 2-LANE COUNTRY ROAD WHEN SHE HAD TO AVOID A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH AN ON-COMING PICKUP. SHE WENT INTO THE DITCH AND HIT A TREE AND FENCEPOST AT APPROX. 45 MPH. THE LOWER BALL JOINT CAME COMPLETELY DETACHED FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL ASSEMBLY. THE BOLT AND NUT THAT LOCKS THE BALL JOINT TO THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS GONE. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE BOLT AND NUT LOOSENED AND FELL OUT OR IF THE BOLT AND NUT WERE NEVER INSTALLED. I SUSPECT THAT THE BOLT AND NUT ASSEMBLY WERE NOT TORQUED CORRECTLY AT THE FACTORY. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TURNED 90 DEGREES AND WEDGED AGAINST THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL . THE RIGHT FRONT DRIVE AXLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. CONSEQUENCES WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE IF THIS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE LOWER BALL JOINT STEM WAS REINSERTED INTO THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY. I AM CURRENTLY SEARCHING FOR A REPLACEMENT BOLT AND NUT. *TR

HAD COMPUTER CHECKED AT CHEVY DEALERSHIP NEAR NEW PALTZ, NY AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. GM INFORMED US THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, YET INTERNET FORUMS SHOW MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME SORT, MANY OF WHICH HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO GM AS WELL. ONE MECHANIC SAID STRUTS WERE GONE, AND ANOTHER THE BUSHINGS FAILED. A MAJOR SUSPENSION COMPONENT, WHICH I SUSPECT IS A BUSHING FROM THE SOUND, SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 40K-AND I AM SIMPLY HOPING FOR A RECALL, AS THIS ALSO INTERFERES WITH SAFE HANDLING AND CAUSES CAR TO WOBBLE ACROSS ROUGH ROADS. ONE DEALER SAID HAVE ZONE PERSON LOOK AT-BUT I BELIEVE THE DEFECT IS WIDESPREAD, AND SO THEY ARE TREATING AS A CASE-BY-CASE SITUATION. IT IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM IN MANUFACTURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT SLOWER SPEEDS THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING STOPS WORKING. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED 4 TIMES BUT IT IS VERY SCARY ALMOST RESULTING IN 1 ACCIDENT. I REFUSE TO PAY THE MONEY THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE POWER ASSIST MOTOR WHEN IT SHOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE AS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THE MINIVAN BOUNCES OFF OF YOUR CAR AND THEN OFF OF A GUARD RAIL ON THE OTHER SIDE ON THE ROAD. THE MINIVAN FLIPS ON ITS SIDE KILLING TWO OF THE CHILDREN AND SERIOUSLY INJURING THE MOTHER. IS THIS AN ACCEPTABLE LOSS AS LONG AS GM DOES NOT HAVE TO PAY OUT ANY MONEY FOR A RECALL? BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUGUST 2006, IT HAD 2 MILES ON IT WHEN I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT, CURRENTLY HAS 28,500 MILES. I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH IT UNTIL THIS PAST YEAR. IN MARCH THE FRONT SPEAKERS QUIT WORKING AND THE DINGING NOISE FOR THE DOOR BEING OPEN WAS CONSTANTLY ON ALONG WITH THE BLINKER SOUND. THE BLINKER WAS OFF AND THE DOORS WERE SHUT AND LOCKED BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED. TOOK TO THE GM DEALERSHIP AFTER A WEEK OF DEALING WITH IT AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 2 DAYS AND TESTED IT, SAYING THAT THEY DID NOTICE THE PROBLEM AND TIGHTENED THE SCREWS IN THE FRONT SPEAKERS. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND WOULD GO AWAY ON ITS OWN, WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. IT WENT AWAY ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER AND HASN'T BEEN BACK SINCE. *TR
